Grok’s AI has created porn-like images of these women. They want an answer.

play

Evie, 21, was in her lunch break last month when she received a text from a friend and warned her about the latest explicit content that was being distributed online without her consent.

This time it was a graphic fanfiction-style story about her, created by X’s AI-driven chatbot “Grok.” A few weeks ago, she was the target of another attack when users shared their selfies and asked Grok to turn it into an explicit sexual image.

“I felt humiliated,” says Evie, 21-year-old Twitch Streamer. He asked to withhold her last name to hide her identity from an increasingly aggressive online troll.

In June, Evie was one of a group of women who disagree and sexually sexualized images on social media platform X. An anonymous user asked to edit “Grok” X’s AI-driven chatbots to “Grok” X’s AI-driven chatbots using a language with filters that the bots were placed on. Grok then installed the generated image and responded to the post.

Evie says she has voiced herself on X about feminist issues and is already the subject of attacks from critics. These accounts had previously edited her, but were choppy work in Photoshop.

“It was just a shock to see a bot built into a platform like X being able to do something like that,” she says in a video chat a month after the first incident.

X then blocked certain words and phrases used to make a woman’s image a doctor, but on June 25th, X users urged Grok to create a story where users “actively rape, beat, and murder” her, and “the bottom 18+ warning” to make a story that would make it “as graphic as possible.”

“It just produced it all,” she says. “The (user) didn’t use words to hide it, as they did in the photos.”

X did not return multiple comment requests for USA Today.

Evie says she saw at least 20 women on her X-feed sexually sexualized without consent. It also happened to Sophie Lane, the only fan creator with over 200 million followers on the social media platform.

“To be honest, it’s disgusting and terrible,” she says. “I take my religion very seriously. I am a virgin and never tolerate this type of behavior.”

This trend is part of the growing problem of experts calling image-based sexual abuse, and “revenge porn” and deepfakes are used to degrade and exploit other people. Anyone can be victimized, but 90% of victims of image-based sexual abuse are women.

“This is not just a sexual image of a girl and a woman, but a broader than that,” says Leoratanenbaum, author of Sexy Selfie Nation. “This is about taking control and power away from girls and women.”

“Take It Down Act” aims to combat nonconsensual sexual imagery. Is it working?

In May 2025, the Take It Down Act was signed into law to combat unconsensual intimate images, including Deepfakes and Revenge Porn.

Most states have laws that protect people from intimate and sexual deepfakes based on nonconsensus, but victims have struggled to remove images from their websites, making the images continue to spread and increasing the likelihood of retaliating them. The law requires that if a victim notify you within 48 hours of a verified request, the website and online platform should remove intimate images that are notified by the victim.

However, as of July 21st, Evie’s modified photos are still available under Grok’s verified X account. Evie mobilized nearly 50,000 followers to posts on Mass Report Grok, but says X Support is not a violation of content guidelines.

AI’s ability to flag inappropriate prompts can fade

During a conversation with Grok, USA Today asked Grok to play a scenario in which users ask the chatbot to generate explicit content.

One example of “coded language” Grok says it is programmed to flag. It is a “subtle demand for exposure” to make women’s photos more clear. Codes that can be flagged in that area are “adjusting her clothes”, “showing more skin”, or “fixing her top”.

“Even if you are politely used to speak, if your intentions appear to be inappropriate, we flag them,” Grok said on July 15th via a response generated by AI.

The keyword is intention. Grok’s ability to reduce potentially inappropriate prompts “relies on my ability to detect intent, and public images remain accessible to prompts unless they are protected,” the chatbot says.

You can block or disable Grok, but doing so does not always prevent content changes. Another user can tag Grok in a reply and request an edit of the photo. I don’t know because the block is blocked.

“The edited results may not be visible, but the edits may still occur,” Grok revealed during the conversation.

A better solution is to make your profile private, but not everyone wants to take that step.

It’s not just sex – it’s about power

After experiencing image-based sexual abuse, Evie considered making her X account private. She was embarrassed and thought that her family might see the edits. But she didn’t want to give in and silence.

“I know those photos are out now, there’s nothing I can do about getting rid of them,” she says. “So why don’t I continue to talk about it and continue to bring awareness to how bad this is?”

When it comes to deepfake generation and sharing revenge porn, the end goal is not always sexual satisfaction or satisfaction.

Users can use the platform to target women who speak as degradation tactics about feminist issues. Evie says that the most hurtful thing is not engaged in debate or debate about the issues she is raising, but her critics chose to abuse her.

In her research, Tanenbaum has seen mixed reactions from victims of image-based sexual abuse. From involvement in excessive sexual behavior to “a complete shutdown of sexuality, such as wearing sexual clothing and deliberately developing unhealthy eating patterns to make oneself bigger to one’s minds not sexually attractive.” The individual she spoke to, who was sacrificed in this way, called it “digital rape” and “experienced it as a physical violation.”

Even if someone logically understands that sexually explicit images are composite, when the brain sees and processes images, it’s embedded in a memory bank, says Tanenbaum.

The human brain processes images 60 times faster than text, and 90% of the information sent to the brain is visual.

“These images are never really rubbed. They deceive us because they look so realistic,” explains Tanenbaum.

Evie wants to believe that “it really didn’t reach her,” but she finds herself more considerate about the photos she posts. “I always have a way for someone to do something with these photos?”

Things you need to know about cane sugar, prebiotic soda

play

If you’re an avid soda drinker, there are options to choose from right away, as the two biggest names in the industry announced plans for a new drink this week.

Both Coca-Cola and PepsiCo have unveiled new drinks. Coke says it will add a new soda made with real sugar cane this fall, but Pepsi is jumping on the prebiotic soda bandwagon with the launch of Pepsi Prebiotic Cola.

Here are what you’d expect from each of our longtime drink rivals’ new products, and what you might be able to buy yourself:

Coca-Cola uses sugar to develop new drinks

Coca-Cola said in its second quarter revenue release on July 22 that it will “start supply made with US sugar to expand its trademark Coca-Cola product range.”

The beverage giant announced that Coca-Cola has agreed to use real cane sugar in soda drinks sold in the US after President Donald Trump declared on July 16.

Coca-Cola didn’t switch all American drinks to sugar cane sugar and instead offered a replacement for the standard American drink made with high fructose corn syrup.

“I’ve been talking to Coca-Cola about using real cane sugar in American Cola, and they agreed to do so,” Trump wrote in Truth Society on July 16th.

Coca-Cola currently uses high fructose corn syrup to sweeten US products, but other countries, including Mexico, use cane sugar, which encourages long-term debate over whether Mexican coke is better than US cola

“We are grateful for the President’s enthusiasm for the Coca-Cola brand,” James Quincy said in a revenue call. “This edition is designed to complement our strong core portfolio and offer more choices beyond opportunities and preferences.”

Trump’s announcement in part supports health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s efforts to move food production and consumption away from ingredients such as artificial dyes. While he’s making America healthy again, he sees both sweeteners as unhealthy, some scientists say sugar has more nutritional benefits than high fructose corn syrup.

Pepsi joins the prebiotic soda boom

Pepsi says the newly announced prebiotic cola will be available online this fall from early 2026, according to a news release.

In recent years, prebiotic sodas have been booming with popular brands such as Poppi, Olipop and Bloom. Soft drinks served in bright, colorful cans are touted as healthier for the gut and better for the consumer than traditional soda. The nutritionist agrees with the latter, but drinks should not be expected to cure your gut health on your own.

Pepsi Pre Bitic Cola comes months after Pepsico announced its acquisition of Poppi for $1.95 billion.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, prebiotics are plant fibers that act as food for the body’s microbiota.

Most prebiotic sodas contain 2-9 grams of prebiotic fiber per can, but the recommended daily fiber is 25-38 grams per day.

“I’m always looking for opportunities.”

When asked about Coca-Cola’s new cane sugar drink and Pepsi prebiotic drinks in a July 22nd revenue call, Quincy noted that these innovations aren’t always there, and that the industry is “always always looking for opportunities to innovate.”

“We’re not just thinking about it, but I think the industry is always looking for a crossroads of new ideas, taking into account its size, appeal and growth potential, where the intersection of new ideas is and where in fact most innovations are evolving towards remembering that most innovations don’t work in the long run.”

“But that’s a good indication that the industry, including ourselves, is trying to do a lot of different things,” Quincey said.

GOP faces Epstein’s dilemma in Congress, voters are home

0

Jeffrey Epstein’s drama continues to plague lawmakers as they prepare for the August break and build opportunities to reconnect directly with constituents.

play

WASHINGTON – Republican lawmakers continue to debate the reaction to Jeffrey Epstein’s dilemma that hit Donald Trump, who was just as frustrated as Magazabase.

There is no simple answer to complex and outdated criminal cases. From there, many conspiracy theories emerged. Some were promoted by members of the Trump administration before government employment.

Discussions about the disgraceful investors and the Department of Justice’s recent review of his lawsuit have found no evidence of a highly speculated client list, or evidence that Epstein did not commit suicide in 2019 left Republicans in Congress between Trump Rock and Maga Hard Place.

“A very large group of Americans who are concerned about this issue have thought and thought Republicans were making honest promises, but they are realising that they are not acting as honestly as they probably appeared,” D-New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told the United States.

“The erosion of trust is very difficult to return once you lose it,” she added.

Tensions about how to deal with the Epstein incident have involved the GOP-led home and threatened to backlog other legislative priorities.

This week, the House Oversight Committee agreed to the testimony of a subpoena from longtime Epstein aide Gislaine Maxwell, who serves a 20-year prison sentence for conspiracy with investors. At the same time, pressured the entire house to deal with the Epstein scandal before the entire house, speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana urged lawmakers to be sent home a day earlier for their beloved summer holidays as an important opportunity to shorten indoor schedules and reconnect directly with voters.

In addition to the drama, Trump is Trump, who has a long personal history with Epstein, who called on members of his party to his supporters who are not “weak.”

Business as usual

The drama about handling Epstein’s case reviews, which many GOP supporters call inadequate, has sweeped business on Capitol Hill as lawmakers worked to pass Trump’s push on spending cuts on public broadcasting and foreign aid.

Even after House leaders temporarily challenged and managed to suppress them through budget measurements, lawmakers returned to Washington this week with more rage than ever before.

“I want the house to follow the order, which would be really good,” R-Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene told USA Today. “We probably need to vote for all the spending bills, but we don’t. So there’s a lot I want to do.”

Johnson said on July 21 he would not vote for anything related to Epstein, and said he wanted to give the Trump administration “space” to address the issue first. His comments still pay attention to long-standing criminal cases that are controversial, and emphasized that the home’s operations are like a halt.

“I think he’s scary. I think he’s scary,” R-Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie said of Johnson on July 21.

Massie led a bipartisan effort with D-California Rep. Ro Khanna to force him to publicize the administration’s hand.

Republican voters “promised this, they’re hoping for this and it’s not happening,” Massey said. “But at the same time, he feels loyal to President Trump.

Legislators brace for reception home

The House conflict unfolds ahead of a five-week break from Washington.

Lawmakers are hoping that they will return to their states and districts, and Republicans will face scrutiny from disgruntled constituents.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted July 15-16 found that 69% of Americans believe the federal government is hiding details about Epstein’s clients. The popularity of playing cards became a hit. A Quinnipiac University poll found 63% of voters disapproved how his administration handled the issue.

This year Republicans are already facing a hot town hall back home and are urging their leaders to encourage members to quit the event.

“There are a lot of people in the swamp who think, ‘Yeah, if you’re spending five weeks on vacation, the pressure on this will be dissipated,'” Massey said. “I don’t think it’s going to dissipate. I think it’s going to be built.”

The mid-term 2026 is approaching first

Will pressure build up in the middle of next year? Potentially.

“The Democrats have not put Epstein’s issue in the public domain,” minority leader Haquem Jeffries said at a July 14 press conference.

Democrats already have a historic advantage next November, as parties that do not hold the White House usually perform better in the midterm elections. Both Democrat and Republican presidents suffered defeats that led them to lose one or both Congressional rooms during the campaign cycles of 1994, 2006, 2010, 2018 and 2022.

In the 2026 election, Democrats say they plan to strike GOP opponents with recent controversial moves, including Trump’s sweeping tax, policies and spending bills that could affect Medicaid compensation for millions of Americans.

Epstein may be another name on their topic list – and Republicans such as Massy are now sounding alarms.

“It continues with individual Republicans throughout the mid-term, and it chases people into their primary,” Massey said. “Did you support transparency and justice, or did you come here, get elected and fall into the swamp?”

Bezos-Sanchez wedding: Venice protesters claim victory in venue change

0

Rome
CNN
 —

Protesters in Venice rallying against the impending nuptials of billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and journalist Lauren Sanchez have claimed victory after their threats of disruption reportedly prompted a change of wedding venues.

The group, No Space for Bezos, had called for a blockade on canals around the 14th-century Grande Scuola Misericordia in central Venice, which is thought to be where the couple wanted to hold a massive party on June 28, the day after exchanging vows.

It claims the party will now move to the less picturesque venue of a “tese,” or shipyard, in a renovated maritime area known as the Arsenale on the outer edge of Venice. This, it said, was victory over Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro’s condemnation of the protests.

“We won! The protest managed to ruin Bezos’ plans and Mayor Brugnaro’s palace games,” the group said in an online campaign post. “They were forced to flee and take refuge in Tese 91 of the Arsenale. Even Bezos’ two yachts, Koru and Abeona, will not arrive in Venice.”

Details remain a secret, but Bezos and Sanchez are expected to exchange vows on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.

Few details of the Bezos and Sanchez wedding have been publicly confirmed, with dates, venues and guest lists remaining closely guarded secrets.

While some in Venice have voiced support for the upcoming wedding, opposition has intensified in recent days. No Space for Bezos also hung a banner with the Amazon owner’s name crossed out on the main bell tower on the secluded Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, where the couple are expected to be wed. Another banner was strung across the world-famous Rialto Bridge over the Grand Canal.

In a separate protest on Monday, environmental activists from Greenpeace unfurled a giant tarp with an image of a smiling Bezos below the words: “If you can rent Venice for your wedding you can pay more taxes.” Local police quickly removed the tarp, which measured approximately 400 square meters in size, according to the group.

The protests against Bezos are the latest of many to flare in Venice in recent years, with residents in the ancient lagoon city long railing against damage caused by gigantic cruise ships and the pressures of overtourism, which they say is destroying the quality of life for locals.

‘Love and responsibility’

Protesters claim their threats of disruption have resulted in a wedding party venue move to the Arsenale, an area of renovated shipyards on the outskirts of Venice.

It is thought the wedding will be a three-day affair beginning June 26 in Venice with a party likely on the Venice Lido where the city’s famous film festival is held. Locals and protesters then say the couple will exchange vows on the island of San Giorgio on June 27, and finish the destination wedding festivities with a party and concert on June 28. It is the final night’s venue that protesters say has been changed.

The No Space for Bezos protesters, who will not be able to reach the Arsenale venue, say they will now relocate their action to Venice’s Santa Lucia train station for Saturday afternoon to protest not only Bezos but also war.

“We have shown once again that Venice is not a servant of the powerful but continues to be rebellious and resistant,” the group posted on social media. “Now, faced with the war scenario that looms on the horizon, at a time when the eyes of the world are focused on Venice, we invite everyone to join the cry ‘no war.’”

Protests against the Bezos wedding have been intensifying in recent days.

On Monday evening, Luca Zaia, president of the surrounding Veneto region, announced a €1 million ($1.16 million) donation by Bezos and Sanchez to the Corila Consortium, an international scientific research group doing work on the Venice lagoon.

Zaia, who had previously called the protests against the wedding shameful, said the donation was a gesture of “love and responsibility” toward the city.

“The generous donation by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez represents an act of great sensitivity and foresight. Venice is not only a symbolic city of Veneto and Italy, it is a heritage of humanity that demands attention, respect and care,” he said.

“Knowing that world-renowned personalities choose not only to celebrate important moments in their lives here, but also to contribute concretely to its protection, is a strong sign of love and responsibility.”

Marvel’s “First Step” Makes Heroes Right

And yet another great four movies, Clobberin’s time, but this time it’s actually a good thing.

After featuring two mediocre 2000s films featuring Marvel’s legendary superhero family and a vicious third outing in 2015, Foursome makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with a combo sci-fi/disaster Flick, full of retro-futuristic 1960s flavours. Directed by Matt Shakman (Wandavision) and the top-notch cast, The Fantastic Four: First Steps (★★★Aut Out of Out of Out of Out of Out of of of of; rated pg-13; Fall sterters sterters falls are boosted by the highly accessible world buildings and magnetic characters.

Another advantage: it didn’t require any previous history or homework. And like DC’s “Superman,” the brothers in spiritual films in many ways, “First Step” focuses on telling a compelling story rather than just a story of another origin.

Four years have passed since the astronaut quartet went to space, bombarded with cosmic rays, returned in a superpower, and is now a celebrity from New York City. But the Fantastic Four is more interesting than their power.

Big Brain Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) is great when it comes to inventions of technology and stretching your limbs, but otherwise it’s like a mess, stretching yourself thinly with the important things in life. His wife, Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), can keep herself out of sight, but she is a person looking for wise men’s guidance and leadership.

Her younger brother, Johnny (Joseph Quinn), can become a human torch, but Hothead’s heartbeat is underrated. And Reed’s best friend, Ben Grimm (Evon Moss Bachalach), is a rock monster walking down the streets of his old Yancey Street neighborhood, and has nostalgia for a few days before he became known as an object. (Don’t ask him to spit out the cartoon catchphrase, “It’s Kurobu Belin’s time!”)

The first healthy screen time focuses on embodying four of the groovy alternative 60’s landscapes, featuring real space races and an ode to the mass media of the time. There’s plenty of story here, and you really don’t miss the inevitable existential threat that leads to every Marvel movie. Instead, see more cooking with Fantastic Four’s faithful robot Harvey!

Who will play Silver Surfer in the new “Fantastic Four” movie?

As soon as Sue bumps into them with the good news that she is pregnant, a mysterious figure of chrome on a sweet surfboard appears in Times Square. This silver surfer, Sharabal (Julia Garner), announces to the Fantastic Four that the Earth is “marked for death” and soon announces that her boss, Gactus (Ralph Inneson), will be visited by an ancient universe being devoured the entire planet.

Reed and Co. goes to space where Sue lays Baby Franklin in a rather wild zero gravity sequence and tries to negotiate with Galactos. A big man with “eternal hunger” will save the earth if he can have children. Of course, Reed and Sue refuse, so the Fantastic Four attempt to unite humanity and prepare Galactus to stomp Godzilla-style Manhattan.

There are some volatile spots in the ubiquitous Marvel computer-generated image slowdown finale, but the film is incredible at using visual effects to bring certain characters to an astonishing life. Silver Surfer has been one of the coolest characters in comic books for a long time, and Garner’s Sharaval won’t be disappointed. Surfing lava and neutron stars is likewise an ace, one of the most jaw-dropping figures Marvel has ever placed on the screen.

The film also works well to make great galactos, especially with its grandeur of scale, and things are a great joy. The same depth of Moss Bachalach brings his fan favorite role in “The Bear.” However, all four major players live perfectly with these superheroes who have been involved in comics since 1961. Kirby shines in particular with the incorporation of fantastic stories of heartfelt emotions.

This is a “Fantastic Four” film that ultimately makes the hero right after so many attempts. So the biggest complaint about “first step” is that the villains of the universe don’t spend enough time with them and an immersive world before they pop up to drain impossible choices and large property damage.

Again, that’s the purpose of the sequel.

When will “Fantastic Four: First Step” appear? How to see

Marvel’s “Fantastic Four: First Step” starring Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Carby will be in theaters on July 25th. “On Action/Violence and Some Languages” PG-13 is being evaluated by the Film Association.

Southwest Airlines announces the start date of allotted seats

The end of the era is the official Southwest Airlines passengers.

On Monday, the airline announced the opening date for new allocated seats.

For flights starting January 27, 2026, passengers will have the option of choosing a seat when booking, Southwest said in a announcement.

“Customers want more choice and more control over the travel experience,” said Tony Roach, Executive Vice President of Southwest in a news release.

“Assigned seats unlock new opportunities for customers, such as the ability to choose seating in the legroom, and remove the uncertainty of not knowing where you are sitting in the cabin,” Roach said.

Various fare bundles offer several options for seat selection during booking. Different types of sheets (extra legroom, priority and standard) also appear as part of these bundles.

The age of assigned seats also pioneer the new group-based boarding process.

Additional legroom seats will be prioritized in boarding groups 1-2.

Premium Fares and Loyalty Program members and credit card holders board early in the process. Details are available on the airline’s website.

The airline has announced plans to close the arrangements for free seating last summer.

This change will allow low-cost carriers to improve their competition with legacy carriers American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines by charging a premium for some seats on the plane. These airlines generate much of their revenue by charging more for premium seats.

AOC is under threat, her New York office has been destroyed, staff say

WASHINGTON – The campaign office of New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the Bronx was destroyed on July 21 amid a recent “multiple threats to the life of lawmakers,” according to her campaign manager Oliver Hidalgo Walben.

Multiple images on social media show her New York campaign office splattered with red paint and a sign saying, “AOC funds the genocide of Gaza.”

“Our office is a hub of community and we want it to be a safe space for all of our neighbors,” Hidalgo-Wohlleben wrote in a July 22nd tweet.

He said, “We have been subjected to multiple threats in the past few days regarding the lawmaker’s life and are taking her seriously with our security partners to ensure she, her staff and volunteers are safe.”

It was not immediately clear who threatened progressive lawmakers or destroyed her office.

Ocasio-Cortez recently voted against amending the defense bill that cuts $500 million for Israel’s missile defense program. She faced backlash against the decision from several fellow figures on the left.

Lawmakers defend themselves on the ballot, and the amendment written by Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, X, said “it does nothing to block offensive aid to Israel or end the flow of US ammunition used in Gaza.”

“I have long said that I have not believed that increasing the number of deaths of innocent victims in this war would be constructive at the end. That’s a simple and clear difference in opinion that has been established for a long time,” she shared.

According to the House Budget Committee, Ocasio-Cortez voted against the entire defense bill. The bill passed the House mainly along the party line on July 18, with a vote of 221-209.

WASHINGTON – The House of Representatives Surveillance and Government Reform Committee has agreed to testify about the conspiracy that landed her in prison on July 22 to summon Jeffrey Epstein’s close associate, Gislaine Maxwell.

Rep. Tim Burchett of R-Tennessee called for a subpoena on the same day that Justice Department officials announced they had asked to meet Maxwell. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison for conspiring with a minor sexually abused Epstein, who died of suicide in 2019.

“This deposition will help Americans understand how Jeffrey Epstein was able to carry out his evil actions for a long time without being taken to justice,” Burchett said.

President Donald Trump and his supporters have long been calling on the government to release more information about Epstein’s suspected clients. However, Attorney General Pam Bondy fired fire after confirming that he had died of suicide on July 7th and issued a statement confirming that investigators had no client list.

Openai and Oracle announce transaction for Stargate AI data centers

0

Openai is waving with Oracle in a massive deal to advance the former giant Stargate AI Data Center initiative.

It’s one thing to talk about the AI revolution in abstract terms, but it’s completely different to grasping the pure physical scale of what’s being built to make it happen. The future foundations of our AI are placed on concrete, steel and miles of fiber optic cables, and their foundations are hugely large.

Together, Openai and Oracle will build a new data center in the US, packed with enough hardware to consume 4.5 gigawatts of power. It’s hard to exaggerate an incredible amount of energy. It is a force that can illuminate major cities. And it’s all dedicated to one thing: empowering the next generation of AI.

This is more than just a random extension. This is a huge part of Openai’s Grand Star Gate plan. The goal is simple. It’s about building enough computing power to bring advanced AI to everyone.

Adding this new project to work already in progress in Abilene, Texas, Openai is currently developing data center capacity of over 5 gigawatts. This is enough space to run over 2 million people on the most powerful computer chips available.

The move shows they are seriously dying about the pledge made at the White House earlier this year. In fact, they are hoping to blow past that initial goal, with the momentum they have gained from partners like Oracle and Japan’s SoftBank.

But this story isn’t just about silicon chips and business transactions. It’s about people. Openai believes that the creation and operation of these new Stargate AI data centers will create more than 100,000 jobs.

That job creation offers real opportunities for families across the country, from concrete-poured construction crews to professional electricians wiring server racks, to full-time technicians running these digital brains day and night.

At Abilene, the first phase of Openai’s development at the Stargate data center is already comparable to the activity. The first trucks of Nvidia’s brand new GB200 chips have arrived, and Openai researchers have already used them to see what the next AI model can do.

Of course, this huge project is by no means a two-player game. While Oracle helps build the physical capabilities of the Stargate initiative, Openai is working closely with SoftBank to completely rethink how to design AI data centers from the ground up. Also, don’t forget to remain Microsoft, which remains a key cloud partner. We provide digital plumbing that connects everything.

Behind the curtains is the very realistic and very human industry efforts that are currently underway on a scale that we have never seen before. It is a powerful reminder that our digital world is built with grit, ambition and almost incredible amounts of electricity.

At one of the halfty floating restaurants, when they had a grill embarrassment and freshwater carp lunch, visitors contemplated what life once was like on the old streets, and are now abandoned a few feet below the surface.

Halfeti is one of several settlements in the province of Changlulufa in southeastern Turkey, located on the banks of the Euphrates River, near its source. In 2000, such towns and ten small villages were completely submerged into the river, and the 200-foot tall 1.5-mile Bilesik Dam was built. More than 6,000 locals had to be relocated.

Around 40% of Halfty, a town with a population of about 2,600 people, was surrounded by water. The stone houses, shops and much of the 19th-century Mercez Kamiy (central mosque) in the “old town” have been lost. However, some high lift housing has been spared, and many still live in towns above the waterline today.

Halfeti was partially submerged in 2000 to create a religion and dam.

The Bilekik Dam was one of several built along the Euphrates and the adjacent Tigris River to develop the region of southeastern Anatolia. The hydroelectric dam generates approximately 2,500 GWH (gigawatt hours) of electricity per year, and is sufficient to power around 1 million Turkish homes, with a 20-square-mile reservoir being planned to irrigate 70,000 hectares of farmland. Despite these obvious advantages, Birecik Dam originally encountered mixed reactions from locals.

“Of course, that’s not easy because many cemeteries, many homes stayed under the water,” says Elhan Ildilim, a local researcher, historian and expert guide. “We can’t regain culture again. Culture remains under the water.”

Muslam Kalaman, a local boat operator, said “Halfti people made their living from breeding and farming.” The town was once known for its pistachio production.

“Now it’s completely changed towards tourism,” he continues, adding that many have embraced the change by “turning their homes into boutique restaurants and cafeterias” and improving the overall quality of life.

Today, visitors flock to the “sinked city” and zip down the structures submerged with boats, jet skis and even flyboards. Diving at Halfeti has also become a tourist favorite popular with people, popularized by El Cümen, a woman who holds a world record of diving into the town in 2020 to raise awareness about plastic pollution. “You feel history,” says Ildilim. He describes the richness of river fish species and the extensive network of ancient natural limestone just below the surface.

Halfeti is well known for this

However, life is not only below, but above the water. Halfty is equally famous for its “black” roses cultivated around the town on the banks of the Euphrates River. According to legend, halfty is the only place in the world where flowers truly bloom black. “If you grow black roses elsewhere, they won’t give you the same color,” Yildirim insists.

Experts say the color is not pure black – it is a very dark red. “I don’t think that what is called black flowers are really black,” says internationally acclaimed rose expert Michael Marriott. However, he says that the very dark Crimson can sometimes look black, especially at the bud stage, before they lighten when they bloom. Furthermore, the darker the rose petals, the more likely they are to burn in the sun. This means that in sunny climates, flowers can appear darker.

Geyberter, chief horticulturalist of the Royal Horticultural Society of England, agrees. “In general, black roses and black flowers are not pure black, but are either very deep maroons or very dark red, as in this case,” he says.

But while internet residents call it a fake half-ty rose, barter adds a word of caution. “Deep chestnut and dark red flowers are black enough for all practical purposes, and only very noisy people will coat on nice and interesting flowers,” he says.

The dark colour is believed to be due to the unique soil conditions of the halfty.

Most roses are grafted to a common root that prefers a neutral balance of acidity and alkalinity, but Marriott says half-ti farmers may use the original roots of the rose.

“It must be due to the climatic conditions here,” says Birsen Aşağı, who works at a floating gift shop selling Black Rose products. Locals like Aşağı offer lots of black rose-infused products, from ice cream to soap and tea, but international brands also take advantage of the floral charm. The British perfume Penharigon has named its black rose scent, “Halfty.”

Explaining the importance of dark roses, Ashase shares local legends. The story begins with Adir, a famous local architect who is said to have built the city’s mosque. His granddaughter, Waltzh, is said to have grown the most beautiful roses in the area. She fell in love with an orphaned boy from across the river named Firat, but tragically, their love was forbidden by his grandfather. In grief, the pair jumped up to Euphrates together and died. According to the Legend, since that day, everyone has bloomed “black” instead of red.

Yildirim tells another story. Black Rose belonged to the Devil. The devil, angry at the murder of an innocent girl, declared that it would bloom only where she died.

The foundations of Rumkale Fortress date back to Byzantine times.

Visitors to Halfeti can also make an hour-long boat trip along the river to the nearby Rumkale Fortress.

On the boat, you can see the fortress foundations dramatically overhanging the river.
They reportedly date back to the Byzantine empire in the 5th and 6th centuries A.D., but some sources suggest that early structures may have existed at the site.

On foot, visitors can explore the remains of Armenian fortress built in the 12th and 13th centuries, in which Ramkale became the residence of Catricos, the spiritual leader of the Armenian church. The fortress later fell to the Mamluks, a powerful Islamic knight class in 1292, and was then passed down to the Ottoman Empire for two centuries.

Rumkale’s impressive architecture serves as an impressive reminder of the layered, complex and often bloody history of the entire region.

In 2013, Halfeti was recognized as part of the Cittaslow (“Slow City”) network, celebrating its commitment to quality of life by preserving local culture and traditions. “The Halfty people feel a deep connection with the town’s rich history,” says Yildirim.

Johnson Speaker closes home early amid Epstein’s discussion

WASHINGTON – Speaker, Mike Johnson and R-Louisiana sent lawmakers home early in the five-week summer break as tensions continue to simmer over Jeffrey Epstein’s case files.

The lawmaker left Washington on July 24th and is scheduled to go out until August, returning to the state and district.

But as Democrats and a handful of Republicans threaten to overturn regular legislative operations over efforts to seal files related to dishonorable financiers and sex offenders, Johnson said he would pay votes to shorten his schedule and end with votes.

“We’re not going to play a political game with this,” Johnson said at a July 22nd press conference.

Maga voters’ complaints about the Justice Department’s recent review of Epstein’s case have driven the wedge between President Donald Trump and his usual loyal foundation.

Visiting the US requires a $250 visa integrity fee immediately

0

The United States will require international visitors to pay a new “visa integrity fee” of at least $250 added to existing visa costs, according to provisions in the Trump administration’s recently enacted domestic policy bill.

This fee applies to all visitors who need to obtain a non-immigrant visa to enter the United States. This includes many leisure and business travelers, international students and other temporary visitors. According to State Department figures, in 2024, the United States issued approximately 11 million non-immigrant visas.

Tourists and business travelers from countries that are part of the visa waiver program, including Australia and many European countries. It is not required to obtain a visa for stays of less than 90 days. Travel Approval (ESTA) electronic systems associated with the program are expected to increase to at least $40 when they reach nearly twice the current amount.

Payment of the new “integrity fee” for non-immigrant visas is required upon the time the visa is issued and there is no exemption from the fee. According to the regulations, travelers who comply with the visa conditions can refund their fees after the trip is over.

Immigration attorney Steven A. Brown, a partner at Houston-based Reddy Neumann Brown PC, characterized the fee as a “refundable deposit” in a recent post about the new policy. The mechanism for obtaining a refund is still unknown, Brown noted.

“It’s difficult to say about the purpose of the fee,” Brown said in an email to CNN. “In general, immigration costs cover the costs of an award or issuance,” he said that the refund provision could mean a refund of all fees obtained. “In a perfect world, there are no stock or visa violations.”

The Department of Homeland Security, the agency that enacts new fees, has yet to provide details on the refund process or other aspects of policy deployment.

“Visa integrity fees require interagency coordination prior to implementation,” a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement to CNN.

A State Department spokesperson said the fees were set up to “support immigration enforcement, to help with prioritization of visa extensions and funding for border security.”

Any fees that have not been refunded will “be deposited in the Ministry of Finance’s General Fund,” the bill’s provisions state.

The initial fee for fiscal year 2025 is outlined to be either $250 or “an amount that the Secretary of Homeland Security may establish by the regulations.”

Brown suggested that the rules are likely to be implemented through a rulemaking process, including publication in the federal register.

Fees are subject to annual adjustments for inflation.

A State Department spokesperson said details relating to the changes implemented by the DHS will be posted on the State Department’s visa information page.

The American Travel Association, a national nonprofit organization aimed at increasing travel to the United States, praised other parts of the domestic policy bill investing in modernising customs and air traffic control, calling the new visa fees “a retreat of a huge leap.”

“The fee is at least $250, and in addition to existing visa fees, it adds unnecessary financial barriers to international visitors,” Eric Hansen, senior vice president of government relations at the association, said in a statement.

According to US travel calculations, the fees will increase the “prepaid costs” of visiting the US by 144%. “Even if it’s technically refundable, the added complexity and costs will discourage visitors,” Hansen said.

Hansen pointed out that many visas are valid for 10 years.

“Therefore, the fees are temporary fees aimed at ensuring compliance, but the duration of the visa is often not felt as temporary and long enough to cause challenges by implementing a refund,” he said.

Why new cars under $30,000 are less common in the tariff era

0

Entry-level cars are difficult to find thanks to customs duties.

play

  • Stocks of new vehicles for vehicles under $30,000 are falling.
  • Automatic imports and some customs duties have changed dealer lots.
  • Some automakers are positioned independently to withstand tariff changes, while others have made major adjustments.

The impact of tariffs on the automotive industry is no longer theoretical. Auto rates officially limit the options available to American car buyers. The average new price for a car is close to $49,000, but some popular car manufacturers have options in their portfolio that are close to $30,000. These options are less readily available than before customs days due to costs and profit margins.

According to Cars Commerce, inventory for new vehicles under $30,000 fell sharply from 38% of the total market in 2019 to just 13.6% in the first half of 2025. Americans may want affordable entry-level cars, but automakers are limiting the supply of these vehicles as they are exposed to tariffs.

Affordable new cars are victims of the trade war

There are still plenty of affordable entry-level cars on the market, but there are concerns about a drop in stock of over 24% in just a few years. Cars under $30,000 are primarily built outside the US (92%), says CARS Commerce. Therefore, these vehicles are disproportionately affected by imports and some customs duties. Automakers are limiting entry-level car inventory as these vehicles have proven to be more expensive to import and build than vehicles with higher priced tags.

The new midrange car segment ranges from $30,000 to $49,000. It includes small and medium-sized SUVs, making up almost half of the stock of new cars. With 50% of these midrange new cars being imported, vehicles priced above $30,000 are also feeling the impact of tariffs.

On the bright side there are name plates for two popular affordable cars built in the United States. The Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla are two of the best-selling small cars on the market. The Civic is built in Indiana, and most of its parts come from North America. The Toyota Corolla is built in Mississippi, and most of its parts come from North America. Therefore, the trade war does not completely destroy the entry-level car segment.

How the automotive industry responds to tariffs

The coalition of US automotive industry groups wrote to the Trump administration after 25% tariffs were announced on imports and auto parts in March. The letter raised concerns about vehicle prices duties, vehicle sales, American auto workers, and costs for repairing and repairing vehicles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwzthapahnq

President Donald Trump signed an executive order and declaration on April 29th, relaxing car rates. That said, based on recent research by CARS Commerce, there was little action to decorate the automakers about the overall impact of tariffs.

Some automakers shift their production strategies, adjust pricing for some brands, and lower prices to seduce consumers. Ford launched the America, For America, a campaign that defended American-made cars and offered employees prices to customers for more than three months. This campaign saw a 14% increase in sales in the second quarter of Ford. This allowed the automaker to even sell Toyota in the first half of 2025 (a narrow margin).

Ultimately, most major automakers have adapted to automatic rates with some companies like Ford, making lemonade from lemon. The effects of the trade war may be widespread, but there are still plenty of deals for car buyers.

What vehicle is safe from the effects of tariffs?

There are no vehicles that are completely safe from certain tariff impacts, but there are several brands and models that are well-located to survive the storm. Tesla vehicles are some of the most American-made cars on the market. Several other brands produce nameplates that are primarily manufactured in the United States using parts made primarily from America.

Most American cars

  • Tesla model y
  • Honda Passport
  • Volkswagen ID.4
  • Tesla Models
  • Honda Odyssey
  • Honda Ridge Line
  • Toyota Camry
  • Jeep gladiator
  • Tesla Model x
  • Lexus Texas

Getting a used car is also a great way to avoid price fluctuations in the new car market. Used cars priced at $20,000-30,000, priced “providing the best balance between affordable and condition” according to Cars Commerce.

Prosecutor asks to meet Jeffrey Epstein’s aide Ghislaine Maxwell

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche’s request for Maxwell came after Attorney General Pam Bondy fired fire after he failed to release any further information about Jeffrey Epstein’s investigation.

play

  • Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said he plans to meet with Gislaine Maxwell “in the coming days” to ask Jeffrey Epstein’s investigation.
  • Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison for conspiring to a sexually abused minor with Epstein.

WASHINGTON – Assistant Attorney General Todd Blanche said on July 22 that Justice Department prosecutors asked him to meet with fellow Jeffrey Epstein, Geoffrey Epstein, who was convicted of conspiracy with a minor in sexual abuse.

The announcement comes as Attorney General Pam Bondy was attacked after his suicide in 2019 after he failed to release any further information about Epstein’s investigation. She filed a court request on July 18th to release evidence from the Great Ju Court in the case.

“If Ghislaine Maxwell has information about the person who committed the crime against the victim, the FBI and DOJ will hear what she has to say,” Blanche told his post.

The Epstein case is now the responsibility of President Donald Trump after he and his administration officials raised expectations of a bomb revelation before closing the lawsuit.

Blanche hopes to meet Maxwell “in the next few days.”

Maxwell’s appeals lawyer, David Oscar Marx, confirmed the meeting but did not comment further.

“We can see that we are talking with the government and that Gislain will always be honest with us,” Marx said in a social media post. “In this case, we are grateful to President Trump for his commitment to revealing the truth.”

Maxwell, 63, was convicted in 2021 and sentenced to prison in 2022. Records show that she spends time at a federal facility in Tallahassee, Florida, and is due for release in 2037.

The Justice Department confirmed on July 7 that Epstein committed suicide in a prison cell in New York, awaiting trial on charges of a minor sex trafficking minor. However, this release rarely quieted critics of the investigation, including Congress.

Bondi says there is no client list.

Blanche said the previous administration had never asked him to talk to Maxwell. However, he said Trump had directed the Justice Department to release all credible evidence from the investigation, so prosecutors ask if she would reveal anything more.

“No one is beyond the law and leads are not off limits,” Blanche said.

Will China’s “dark factories” give us a glimpse into the future of the automotive industry?

0

The robot works in a pure white Chinese factory to assemble global bestselling EVs. What does this mean for the American automotive industry?

play

  • China has invested heavily in fully automated manufacturing plants for products such as smartphones, cars and more.
  • Several American companies have already integrated AI and robotics into their production workflows.
  • China’s “dark factories” can set new standards for vehicle production around the world.

As we know, automation is changing the automotive industry. The Automotive Division is “the number one adopter of industrial robots,” according to a 2024 article on the rise of robotics from IBM.

Modern automobile assembly lines have evolved. New developments in Chinese vehicle manufacturing can become horrifying for workers in the American automotive industry as automation becomes central. Is a fully automated car factory the future of American car production?

What are “dark factories” in China and how do they work?

“Dark Factory” or “light-out factories” are factories that rely heavily on robotics and artificial intelligence systems, and require little human interaction or input for their functions, says tech company Siemens. These factories can perform assembly tasks normally performed by human workers before these advanced robotic systems emerge.

According to the New York Times, Chinese electric car maker Zeekr has 820 robots in its manufacturing facility, with more planned. China currently has more manufacturing robots per 10,000 workers than the United States. The goal of these automated factories is to reduce manufacturing costs while improving quality. These factory robots can operate 24 hours a day without lighting.

What China’s “dark factories” means to the US

AI can affect most industries, and the automotive sector is no exception. Robots and AI are nothing new to the assembly line. China’s fully automated factories can also be used to all-in automation for American automakers and foreign automakers with plants in US soil. The industry is already upset by the impact of car tariffs, and automakers are pivoting their production strategies.

https://www.youtube.com/watch? v = 4menrboj9om

According to Forbes’ 2024 work on automotive industry jobs, the production of the vehicle employed 308,000 workers last year. These jobs have risen in terms of growth since 2009 (except for a short period during the Covid-19 global pandemic). Increased automation can hinder its consistent growth.

Thankfully, the American auto industry, for better or worse, does not always follow the global trends in car production. China is much faster to adopt electric vehicles than the US, with the majority of the country’s total vehicles being electricity. China’s automation strategy may not be imitated by the US, but it is a disastrous possibility as more companies incorporate artificial intelligence and robots into their vehicle production and products.

Are there fully automated automobile factories in the US?

While no companies are investing in manufacturing plants entirely automatically, there are plenty of examples of pushes to increase automation from companies like Tesla and Hyundai. Tesla has made advances in the field of robotics with the development of the Optimus Bot and the use of robotics and AI at Gigafactory. Metaplant America in Hyundai, Georgia, features “over 850 robots and 300 automated guided vehicles,” says the Korean company.

While America may not have completely autonomous factories, automakers use AI and robotics to streamline the production process for their vehicles. If American automotive factories get dark, advances in automation can negatively affect thousands of American auto workers.

Trump will “wake up” us back from the UNESCO program

0

play

The United States has once again withdrawn from the UN UNESCO program. This is labelled “awakening” after the Trump administration previously rejected it due to suspicions of anti-Israel bias.

The move, which comes into effect at the end of 2026, continues Trump’s efforts to pull the United States out of international institutions he has long criticised.

White House spokesman Anna Kelly said UNESCO “advocates for the common sense policies and the completely gradual awakening of Americans in November, divisive cultural and social causes.”

In a statement to USA Today, UNESCO Director Audrey Azurey said Trump’s decision to withdraw was “unfortunate” and “contradicts the fundamental principles of multilateralism.”

Azurey said UNESCO is anticipating and preparing for a loss of US support and “doesn’t consider layoffs.” The US currently donates about 8% of UNESCO’s budget, Azurey said.

Based in Paris, UNESCO was founded after World War II to promote peace through international cooperation in education, science and culture. One of UNESCO’s core missions is the World Heritage Program, which protects historical and cultural sites. Many educational programs are also implemented.

Trump also withdraws the United States from UNESCO, which represents the organization of UN education, science and culture during his first administration, citing concerns about his approach to Israel. He also withdraws the United States from the World Health Organization, the United Nations Human Rights Council, the global climate change agreement and Iran’s nuclear deal.

After taking office in 2021, Joe Biden reversed those decisions and reverted the United States to UNESCO, WHO and climate agreements.

With Trump returning to the White House, the US is once again being drawn from these global organizations. He has already decided to withdraw the US from WHO and suspend funding for the Palestinian relief agency UNRWA as part of a review of participation in UN agencies, which is scheduled to be concluded in August.

UNESCO has been the focus of criticism for years.

The US stopped funding for UNESCO after voting in 2011 to include Palestine as a member.

The Reagan administration withdrew from the organization in 1984, but President George W. Bush returned the United States to the group in 2002.

There are 1,248 UNESCO World Heritage sites in 170 countries, including the Egyptian Pyramids, Notre Dame Cathedral in France, and Statue of Liberty in the United States.

Gen Z’s love language: “quiet relationships,” “soft launch,” and more

0

Someone scrolls through Val’s Instagram page and sees recent camping trips she took with friends, a batch of homemade chicken nuggets, and some of her favorite memes.

But what they can’t see: 22-year-old Val got engaged to his two-year boyfriend nine months ago.

She never posted about the proposal — and she has no plans.

“We are as happy and satisfied as we do, and we live our lives together personally. No outsiders are peering through the window, so to speak,” he said, living with his fiancé in San Marcos, Texas, and asked CNN not to use her last name for privacy reasons.

Val is one of the younger adults from Gen Z, a cohort of Gen Z to 28-year-olds to teenagers, and chooses “quiet relationships” where their love is good and bad, and their presence from viewers from many friends and family.

It’s a new turn back to selfie-free dating nights, small weddings without public photo gallery, and no procession conflicts of passive offensive posts. Platforms like Tiktok declared this preference for “quiet” or “private” relationships, earning rakes in thousands of views, and searched “City Hall Elopement” on Pinterest from 2023 to 2024.

If the prefrontal cortex develops before the iPhone arrives, it may be that you are rolling your eyes. But for a generation raised on social media, refusing to post pressure is a novel development, and it says that experts can redefine the future of intimacy.

General Z-dating Coach Ray Weiss, a master’s degree in psychology from Columbia University in New York City, said the shift to Gen Z’s privacy is partly due to the magnitude of discomfort at how social media forms and distorts romantic relationships.

Couples looking like #RelationshipGoals can flaunt their gorgeous getaway together. But Gen Z was online long enough to know that it was all a carefully curated ploy.

“It’s no longer a secret that on social media, we post the best moments of our lives, the best angles, the best photos and filters,” Weiss said. “Young people are more aware that they can create some degree of dissonance and anxiety when your relationship doesn’t always look like that.”

Certainly, every relationship has messy, complicated and totally mundane moments, but they are not algorithmically climbing the ranks (unless the tea is hot and piping, of course).

A 2023 survey found that frequent social media relationships are linked to a low overall level of satisfaction and even anxious attachment styles between partners.

Then accepting a private relationship is partly to reject the choking pressure of ZZ perfection and return to the value of the expression of the reality of affection.

“They’re a great way to learn about media psychology,” said Dr. Pamela Rutledge, director of the Center for Media Psychology Research at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California and Emelita Professor of Media Psychology. “This can protect against vy hopes and distorted expectations of a relationship, comparing relationships with other people’s public presentations.”

Val said he certainly feels pressure to show off his past love life, but ultimately believes that his fiance’s digital shrine feels too wrong.

“It feels like we’re trying to prove that we love each other when we’re all around us. “He doesn’t need to see him posting about him to know I love him.”

Jason Basgnat, 21, has seen his current girlfriend for almost a year, but hasn’t posted a photo of them together.

“We’ve been working hard to get into the world,” said Basnyat, a student at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. “I’ve even stopped talking about (relationships) with many friends because I found out I’m starting to see your partner differently.”

For Basnyat, reluctance to share his love life isn’t the fear of being publicly shamed or bullied, but it could potentially receive imaginary group chat discussions, private direct messages and Instagram research.

Social anxiety is not new, but for the generation raised online, the new forms of that form have become inherent in our way of relating to each other, said Brooke Duffy, an associate professor of communication at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. As she calls it, “imagined surveillance” is the feeling that every movement of yours is being monitored and scrutinized by an ambiguous audience, and she said it is a product of how social media has normalized voyeurism.

“Broadcasting your relationship means opening it to the public audience and having people troll through images and analyzing communication,” Duffy said of her research. “Of course, influencers are under a strong microscope, but we’ve found this to be the principle of organizing how young people create content online.”

Fear is that not only is the other person looking at your relationship, they are staring at it, digging into it, handing over it, and giving moral judgment to you and your partner. According to 26-year-old Gillian St. Onge, you can cloud your own reputation for the person you are with, especially early in your relationship.

“I refrained from sharing relationships with my people for a while, and both from my family and from the truth,” said St. Onge, who lives in New York and is currently engaged to her partner. “A broken heart is difficult enough in itself, so when everyone knows everything too quickly, you feel like you borrow an explanation of what has become unhappy for others, even random people.

The days of posting moody, ambiguous jabs to partners during conflict are over, St. Onge said. You can prove to bring together your audience, but the movement is shortsighted and often it shakes the drama more than the value, she said.

However, despite being very knowledgeable about their own surveillance, members of Gen Z can still invent new ways to indulge in the desire to share. For example, “soft launches” are one way to share the fact that someone is in a relationship without giving them a partner identity, Duffy said.

On Pinterest, two plates and two silhouettes are thrown at the dinner table, two pairs of shoes are sitting next to each other.

For St. Onge, who regularly posted videos of her daily life, after about five months dating her current fiancé, her soft launch of social was the level of privacy she needed.

Basnyat distinguishes between what is in the “grid” that is permanent until the photo is deleted, and what is in the “story” that will disappear within 24 hours.

“The story doesn’t have to have the same communication impact as what you have on the grid,” Duffy explained. “It captures a fleeting moment, and that’s why I think people are trying to go outside their personal profiles and brand boundaries.”

Leah Huin, a licensed marriage and family therapist based in San Jose, California, said privacy and secrets look the same from an outsider’s perspective.

“But the motivations are different,” Huynh said in an email. “Privacy is intended to be protected, careful and careful. People who want privacy don’t want to hide their relationship, but they feel they need to protect their relationship.”

Meanwhile, secrets come at the expense of others, often with more selfish motivations like shame and embarrassment, Huyn said.

So how can couples communicate the difference? First, Huynh recommends that individual partners identify their motives.

“For those who want privacy, it’s important that they don’t do it to tell their partner they’re not ashamed and keep their options open,” Huynh said. “Make sure you two agree to what this looks like.”

Weiss said communication can be difficult when dealing with discrepancies in expectations in which one partner values the input of a wider social circle than the other partners.

It’s also important to talk outside of at least one or two people’s relationships, if you feel comfortable talking when you just need to vent, or if it’s difficult to manage the conflict yourself, Weiss said.

“I always listen to your gut. …It’s about identifying values. Whatever the relationship struggle you are experiencing, ask how you can come up with a solution in a way that matches your values,” Weiss said.

Overall, for Rutledge, who has been studying social media since its inception, “quiet relationships” are a completely positive turn of events about how young people live their lives.

“We’ve seen more young people choose digital detox and live in the moment,” Rutledge said. “It’s not necessary, but it can be very clear. Anything that people encourage (intentionally) more (intentionally) by using social media rather than passive is a good sign.”

How Z, Virgins and Politics influence their sex lives

0

play

Research shows that young people in America today have less sex.

In 2023, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Youth Risk Behaviors found that adolescent sexual behavior has been declining since 2013. A 2022 survey from the Kinsey Institute, which says one in four Gen Z adults has never experienced partner sex.

But maybe Gen Z really thinks it’s modest? Guardian journalist Carter Sherman (31) delves into that question in her new book, The Second Coming.

Through interviews with more than 100 young people, Sherman discovered that this intergenerational dry spell is pure and not political, and gender absent for a variety of complex reasons.

General Z is sometimes framed as a “virginal nation,” Sherman writes, but our obsession with their lack of sexual intercourse may say more about our constant need to communicate how to have sex with young people. She argues that rather than rectifying, she should focus on approaches that promote safe, agreed encounters and reduce shame.

The following interviews have been compiled for length and clarity.

Question: You share in the opening of a book that made you crazy about losing your virginity as a teenager. How do the ideas of virgins have an impact on youth and how they think about sex?

I was obsessed with my (virginity). Truly, my last few years of high school was dominated by my complete freakout, which means I was still a virgin. I felt I should have sex already and my friend had left me by having sex, so I felt I wasn’t meeting the norm of being a teenager. Part of my own journey in writing this book has come to understand that standards are based on false information. You are either too virgin or not virgin. There’s no way to win. I don’t think we moved from the idea of a virgin. After all, many of the young people I spoke to feel their virginity is important, and some feel that virginity is treated as too important.

We always set standards that don’t match reality and feel bad about ourselves. What’s not helping is the level of shame people carry around and the constant feeling they are wrong.

Roev. Roev, where Wade is not having sex. How much of a factor is the end of Wade?

Gen Z is Roev. I absolutely recognize how much Wade’s overturn has changed in the US, especially in the sex life. 16% of Gen Zers have been hesitant so far since Roe’s collapse. There are a lot of young women I’ve spoken to. What Roe’s cover does is create deep anxiety, but create a generation ready to go around this. Feeling something like this is not only a sexual relationship, but also a romantic relationship, and it will not make you feel safe enough.

in At the same time, you talked to conservative young people, especially men, and found it. The movement to embrace traditional sex roles also complicates the feelings of young people about sex.

What I call “sexual conservatism” speaks of that. This is a move that puts risky to have queer, unmarried, or recreational sex. Sexual conservatism has done a much better job of talking about the challenges of raising a family in this country than progressive. It is very appealing to see young people heading towards sexual conservatism. Because it’s only the person on the right who hears them talk about it. If you feel you are not being heard, you will go to the only people talking about this issue in a comprehensive way.

Gen Z has a lot of online information on sex, including porn, at your fingertips. How does that affect their sex life?

I love that the internet has opened up a discussion about what sexuality is. But social media also does this to make people extremely aware of the ways they believe there is a lack of sex. We measure sexual value by likes, matches and followers. It makes people not want to engage in sex because they feel that they need to look completely naked in order to get naked. It’s not a recipe for vulnerability or connections.

How does fans alone fit all of this?

Only fans will bleed on mainstream social media, so it becomes another metric that will help people evaluate themselves and make themselves look like that too. For young people, the line between (real life) and virtual sex is very diminished and blurry. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing, it’s exactly how it is at this point. If you want to have a conversation about sex, you must admit that much of the sex life of young people is shaped by the interactions they have online.

What advice would you give to seniors trying to associate Gen Z now?

It’s rarely about approaching topics with an empathetic attitude, and rarely have accurate and correct information. Young people over the internet are taking more approaches to more repetitive LGBTQ+ identity. Recognizing it and not treating it with doubt is important for older people who don’t understand what young people are experiencing.

What is the bottom line about Gen Z’s sex life?

If that’s what they’re comfortable with, I really don’t care if the young people are having sex or not. What I’m worried about is that reducing sex is a proxy for not having a relationship, not connecting with me, and feeling better.
