play

Who are the most powerful people in college football? The USA Today Sports Network decided to understand that.

Our panel of experts has spent hours debating and debating the topic and settled into the top 25 that enters the 2025 season.

Names like Sankey, Big Ten Tony Pettitty, Colorado manager Dion Sanders and retired coach Nick Saban are familiar to college football fans, while others like Jimmy Sexton, Cole Gahagan and Dave Brown have a tremendous upset behind the scenes. And like President Donald Trump, some members of this exclusive club may surprise you.

Our network’s expert panel that determined this ranking includes National College Football writers Matt Hayes and Blaketop Meyer, USA Today writers Paul Meyerberg and Brent Schlotenbour, former USA Today sports columnist Dan Walken, and beat writers Frank Bodany (Pennsylvania), Scott Wright (Oklahoma), Mark Weyjeser (Oklahoma), and Mark Weyjeser (Oklahoma). Editors Eric Smith, Andrew Burkle and Tommy Diaz helped shape the debate.

We present the top 25 most powerful people in college football, with the 2025 season underway.

1. Greg Sankey, SEC Commissioner

twenty three. Shannon Terry, founder of ON3 Sports, 247 Sports and Rivals

Why is he on the list: His ON3 brand, a visionary in the multimedia world of content offering, has now become a reputation for NIL, the industry standard. Previous companies (rivals, 247Sports) are trendsetters in recruitment scope, used by many FBS and FCS coaching staff.

twenty five. KIRKHERBSTREIT, ESPN Personality

Why he’s on the list: Herbstreit, an ESPN college football fixture since 1996, is the anchor of college Gameday and undoubtedly a sports outstanding television analyst. A case of Legionnaires was investigated in Central Harlem as the infection reached 113

New York City health officials are investigating a community cluster of illnesses in Legionnair in Central Harlem as outbreak cases reached 113, the city’s health department said.

The New York City Health Department said it is investigating community clusters of Legionnaires across five postal codes in Central Harlem. Since the outbreak began on July 25th, the city’s health department has reported 113 cases of illnesses in the vicinity. As of August 26th, seven people diagnosed with Legionnaire’s disease have been hospitalized.

Meanwhile, the New York City Health Department was assessing Parkchester Mansion in the East Bronx after four people were diagnosed with Legionnair’s illness last year, Gothamist and the News12 Bronx reported. The department said the cluster was concentrated in two buildings, according to Gossa Mist.

A city health department notification, published on August 22nd in the condo complex obtained by the News12 Bronx, said that within the last 12 months, two residents were reported to have been ill from the Legionnaires disease. The department told Gossa Mist that it began an investigation at the Parkchester South Mansion after residents tested positive within two months.

According to Gothamist, assessments began at the Parkchester North Mansion in June after two other cases were reported within 10 months. The city’s health department reports that the Bronx cluster is linked to the growth of Legionella bacteria in the building’s hot water systems and not the outbreak of Central Harlem, News12 Bronx and NBC New York.

City health officials noted that the incident was more self-contained compared to the Central Harlem outbreak, tied to a cooling tower. The city’s health department did not respond to a request for comment on USA Today on August 26th.

Ben Crump: “Fully preventable” Legionnaire’s disease outbreak

On August 21, the city’s health department discovered the sixth death related to the Central Harlem outbreak. Dr. Michelle Morse, a deputy committee member of the city’s health department, said in a statement on X that the person had passed away by mid-August.

Just days before the sixth death was confirmed, the city’s health department reported that the fifth death was associated with the Central Harem cluster. The incident also involved people who had died by mid-August.

“Epidemiological evidence continues to show that repair efforts are effective,” Morse said in a statement, reiterating that the outbreak investigation is ongoing and that the risk for most people in Central Harlem is low.

The city’s health department previously said 12 nearby cooling towers had tested positive for Legionella bacteria. All tower restoration efforts have since been completed.

Health officials point out that the outbreak has nothing to do with the building’s hot or cold water supply, and the plumbing system is separate from the cooling tower system. People will need to continue using air conditioners, including window units and other appliances that use water, according to the city’s health department.

On August 20, civil rights attorney Ben Crump announced that he had filed a lawsuit against two construction companies over what he called a “completely preventable” outbreak of Legionnair’s disease in central Harlem. Crump blamed the construction company and the city of negligence, saying the company cut the corner.

What is Legionnaire’s disease?

Legionaire’s disease is severe pneumonia caused by a type of bacteria called Legionella, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Symptoms that can occur up to 14 days after exposure include cough, fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, and shortness of breath.

According to the CDC, it is caused by consumption of water and breathing of water vapor contaminated with Legionella bacteria. The disease can be caused by plumbing systems that favor bacterial growth, such as cooling towers, vortex spas, hot tubs, humidifiers, hot water tanks, and evaporation capacitors in large air conditioning systems.

Considered a rare disease, the American Lung Association said Legionnair’s illness is a growing health concern. This has steadily become common throughout the nation over the last few decades, and studies have shown that hotter, humid temperatures have contributed to an increase in cases, according to the CDC.

The Legionnaires disease cannot spread from person to person and can be treated with antibiotics, the CDC said. Most healthy people who are infected usually get better, but 1 in 10 people who get sick due to complications die.

According to the CDC, the best way to prevent disease in Legiona is to clean water-based pipes and devices. And health officials are urging people at higher risk, including those over the age of 50, cigarette smokers, chronic lung disease or with compromised immune systems, to immediately seek medical care if they have symptoms.

SpaceX Starship completes successful test flights after retreat

0

play

The 33 engines provided power, and SpaceX’s huge spaceship slowly crept into the sky. It has begun its 10th test flight from Texas.

Previous flights didn’t go as expected, but this time it was different.

On the August 26th test flight, super heavy boosters from the Gulf of America, formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico, were scattered. SpaceX has demonstrated its ability to catch boosters at launch towers in the past, but this splashdown was planned. SpaceX was driving booster capabilities.

Meanwhile, the ship will coast in orbit and open the payload bay doors normally.

A mockup Starlink satellite drifted off the ship. Starship had its first payload expansion. This is a major milestone in the program.

“Place the ship on the bow.”

Within 38 minutes of flight, Starship hit another milestone by re-rated one of the ship’s engines in space. This is a critical component for a controlled reentry.

However, upon re-entrying, the rear “skirt” of the spaceship was subject to the damage shown in the live view of the flight. SpaceX claims this is expected as it was emphasized that the ship would intentionally acquire data.

“We put the boat on the bow,” said Dan Huot of SpaceX.

About an hour and six minutes after the flight, the giant ship set fire to its engines, flipped and splashed through the Indian Ocean. Even with the ending, the flight hit all the big milestones. Now the team will check the data.

“Congratulations to @Spacex for successfully launching Starship and splashdown! This will bring America back to the moon and one important step to reach Mars,” wrote Senator Mike Harudopolos in X shortly after the flight.

Monster Rocket will be released one day by Cape Canaveral and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

SpaceX deals with Cape Canaveral crowds in Starship

“There’s fear. ‘Oh, my God, the spaceship will shut down everything,” the Vice President of Launch at SpaceX told local crowds during the 7th Annual Space Coast Symposium on August 22nd. “That’s not true.”

Local horrors of the big rocket include road closures, noise and air pollution, damage to infrastructure, temporary closures at Playa Linda Beach, and industry disruptions such as fishing.

“Is it a big rocket, sure? Yes, it’s bigger than the Falcon 9. In fact, this is the biggest rocket ever built,” says Dontchev. “But we did a lot of work to understand how to reduce the impact essentially.”

NASA is under pressure to land Artemis III III crews on the moon before the Chinese plan by 20303.

Dontchev mentioned long ongoing environmental research through NASA, the Space Force, and the Federal Aviation Administration. He said SpaceX’s goal is for Starship to become an asset to Space Coast.

SpaceX is seeking a spaceship for the maiden to sail the maiden to Mars by the second half of 2026, when the planet is next closest to Earth.

Spaceship and Starbase

However, before SpaceX can acquire it, multiple spacecrafts need to be launched and refueled in orbit. This will be done through ship-to-ship propellant imports that future Milestone SpaceX will be testing.

The purpose of this flight was the same as what I missed on Flight 9 in late May. I deployed eight Starlink simulators and learned one of the ship’s Raptor engines while in space.

SpaceX has been launching Starship from Starbase, Texas for years, and has had multiple successes, including catching a huge first-stage booster at the launch towers of its fifth and seventh flights, including several flights that will be coasts in space for nearly an hour.

After these successes, the program appeared to be retreating, the ship was lost very early in the flight, even exploded at a Texas test stand.

“We definitely have some challenges at Starbase,” says Dontchev. “The SpaceX approach is to fly and test. That’s always been our approach.”

Dontchev explained that companies can make many designs and plans on paper, but it remains unknown that the design will really work until that rocket flies. SpaceX does not intentionally plan obstacles, but we learn from them.

SpaceX is receiving funding from NASA to develop Artemis Missions human landing systems, but SpaceX claims it funds a large portion of its Starship program.

“We really managed to push the envelope,” Dontchev said. “As long as we are safe and good stewards, it’s okay to break things. If there’s a problem, we’re handling the business.”

Dontchev mentioned Cape Canaveral’s past, including testing rockets in the 1950s and 1960s, many of which failed spectacularly. However, unlike previous rockets, the spacecraft has not been tested at Cape Canaveral.

“With a spaceship, you get a better machine that’s ready for the party,” says Dontchev.

SpaceX intentionally emphasizes the ship on these test flights. A major milestone in the spaceship program is that the ship not only completes its orbit, but also returns to the launch site.

“The flight test includes several experiments focused on allowing the Starship upper stage to return to the launch site. During the re-entry, a considerable number of tiles were removed from the spacecraft into stress test vulnerable areas across the vehicle,” SpaceX said on its website about the current flight.

The goal is to ultimately see a fully reusable boot system. This dramatically reduces the cost of launching into space than the Falcon program.

It is common for the company’s Falcon 9 rocket to land and reuse the first stage, but the top is discarded. When SpaceX gets a Starship to fully meet its goal, it eliminates it.

“That’s how we can significantly reduce the cost of access to the space and increase the amount of capacity to the track,” dontchev says..

Dontchev also said SpaceX is welcoming competition with other launch providers coming to Florida.

“We want to help DOD and KSC design space ports that aren’t just SpacePort, but SpaceX,” says Dontchev. “We want blue origins. We want relativity… we want Stoke to come in and flourish and succeed.”

SpaceX Starship released by Florida

When Starship launches Florida launch pads (NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Pad 39a and launches the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station’s Complex 37, the returning super-heavy boosters and ships will create a sonic boom. SpaceX will also be launching frequently with quick conversion times for fully reusable rockets.

Upcoming Starship Impact Meetings in Florida

“As we stabilize that rocket, we’re going to operate it and bring it to Florida,” Dontchev said.

Space Force and the Federal Aviation Administration are currently finalizing their environmental assessment before the first launch from Florida occurs, and public comments are welcome.

The Federal Aviation Administration is holding a public meeting this week in the Kennedy Space Center’s draft environmental impact statement. Virtual meetings will be available on September 3rd from 6pm to 8pm for those who cannot participate in in person. Interested people can register online.

Is there a zipper merging method? What drivers need to know

0

play

We were all there. You will drive on the highway and then come across a sign informing you of upcoming work zones, and that one lane will be closed soon.

There are two schools of thought about what to do next. Either.

The latter option, known as a zipper merger, is a painful subject for many drivers. Some view zippers as a “side-by-side cut” form, but others argue that it’s a more effective way to keep traffic moving.

Which is correct?

What is Zipper Merge?

Zipper Merging is a technique used in busy working zones, and uses all available roads to prevent backing up long cars backed up in one lane with ample rooms in the empty next lane.

The idea is that the driver needs to drive in the lanes all the way to the final merge point and in turn merge into open lanes like zippers.

Is zipper merger legal?

Zipper legality is not only legal in some states, but it is also highly encouraged in them. However, ultimately it depends on which state it is not considered nationally legal. Please check with your local DMV for more information.

Do zippers fuse faster?

According to Modot, if both lanes are fully used up to the point of merge, the backup length is reduced by 40-50%.

Also, when both the open and closing racks are full, everyone is equally lagged. In other words, when merging, no one “cuts side by side.”

When is zipper merger recommended?

If zipper mergers are legal in your state, it should be used during heavy, slow traffic.

However, if the traffic is backed up and not working properly, it is best to merge early into an open lane instead, as it can be dangerous to merge at the last second at high speed.

Cracker barrel says it goes back to the old logo

play

Cracker Barrel announced on August 26 that it had dropped a very critical new logo and was back to the “old timer.”

“We thank our guests for sharing your voice and love for cracker barrels. We said we’ll listen. “Our new logo will go away and the ‘old timer’ will remain. ”

Known for its comfortable food and nostalgic atmosphere, restaurant chains and country stores across the country launched their fall menu campaign on August 19th to unveil a new simplified logo.

The “enhanced brand look” was intended to modernize the company’s brand, executives said. This intent includes moving the restaurant from a rich decor of nostalgia to something more modern and less messy.

The change has led to sharp criticism from clients and politicians, both President Donald Trump and Democrats denounce the change.

“All the fans are very grateful,” Trump said in a post about True Society following the announcement. “Make a lot of money and most importantly, make our customers happy again!”

USA Today followed with a cracker barrel asking if Trump’s comments had an impact on the decision and they didn’t receive an immediate response.

The company published an answer on its website on August 25, after unveiling its simplified logo a few days ago, leaving customers unhappy with the changes at the restaurant.

“If the last few days show us something, it’s just how deeply people care about the barrel of crackers. We’re really grateful for your sincere voice,” the company said. “You also showed us that we could do a better job of who we are and who we are all the time.”

Announcement raises praise after incites criticism

His return to the “old timer” attracted praise shortly after the announcement.

“Admiration for their team for making great decisions, and many happy memories and delicious meals may continue for the next generation,” R-TN Sen. Marsha Blackburn said in a post on X.

“We’re so back,” North Carolina’s Brantley McDonald wrote in an announcement on the company’s Instagram.

Tennessee’s Brandon Weems wrote in a post about the announcement that he was “bullying.”

Tennessee-based Comfort Food Chain fell 7% at the close of trading on August 21, following a financial hit following the announcement of its logo.

The now discarded logo was part of a larger aesthetic adjustment for the same-panned company.

“The cracker barrel has always stood out for its uniqueness, but now it’s just Denny with a gift shop,” Destiny Alexander told Victorville Daily Press, part of the USA Today network.

Jack Smith criticizes “partisan” investigation into his Trump prosecution

0

The investigation into Smith is one of several under the Trump administration, prompting fear that Trump is using his second term to engage in a revenge campaign against his perceived enemy.

play

According to a letter obtained by USA Today, Jack Miss, who led two criminal prosecutions against President Donald Trump, who led two criminal prosecutions against President Donald Trump, before the real estate mogul’s 2024 election victory, opposed reported investigations into the handling of these cases.

“The investigation assumes partisan complaints that suggest that the usual operations of the criminal justice system should be confused by the whims of political contests,” wrote two lawyers, Lanny A. Brewer and Peter Kosky, on behalf of Smith.

The investigation into Smith was one of several under the Trump administration, prompting fear that Trump was engaged in a revenge campaign against perceived enemies using his second term. Several of the president’s supporters argue that such investigations are important to correct previous overdues.

On August 22, FBI agents stormed the home of former national security adviser and fierce Trump critic John Bolton. The department said it had court approval for the search, but did not elaborate on the investigation. The Justice Department also reportedly has launched an investigation into New York Attorney General Leticia James.

In a letter on August 25, Smith’s attorneys took “daily procedural measures” for those who indicted candidates for public office, and said the current investigation into his actions was “unprecedented.”

The reported investigation was prompted by a July 30 letter from Republican Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton. Tom Cotton suggested that Smith was about to illegally affect the November presidential election by promptly filing briefs and promoting a swift court date. Cotton pointed to the Hatch Act, which restricts federal employees from engaging in political activities.

“Many of Smith’s legal actions do not appear to have rationale except for attempts to influence the 2024 election outcome. Actions violate federal law,” Cotton argued in his letter.

However, Smith’s lawyers wrote in a letter that the U.S. Supreme Court itself agreed to encourage appeals, and that Smith followed the example set by a special prosecutor who investigated President Richard Nixon in the 1970s.

“Given the lengthy procedural records and careful attention to these matters were paid by judges overseeing the prosecution of special counsels, the firm should not rely on unfounded claims that failed before federal court,” wrote Smith’s attorney. Their letter was addressed to Jamieson Greer, representing the U.S. Special Advisors Office.

Richard Painter, White House ethics lawyer under President George W. Bush, warned of the threat of indicting Trump’s rivals during the latest presidential election. The painter noted that Smith’s court application has been accepted by the court.

See what Travis Kelce suggested

The engagement news comes less than two weeks after Swift appeared on Kelce’s podcast, New Heights, on an episode of August 13th, and announces his upcoming studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. During the conversation over two hours, Swift and Kelce spoke openly while sitting side by side, providing rare insights into their relationship.

“This podcast has given me a boyfriend since Travis decided to use it as his personal dating app about two years ago,” Swift joked on the show.

“It was a very wild romantic gesture to be like, ‘I want to date you’,” Swift said, recalling the call to Kelse’s original podcast. She joked.

Kelse said she thought “I know what she wants to do to me” while listening to her love song at a Swift concert. Kelse also called himself “the lucky man in the world,” while Swift described the NFL stars as “aesthetic boosters” and “human exclamation points.”

Federal judge rejects motion to dismiss the case against Judge Hannah Dugan

US District Judge Lynn Adelman denied an motion to dismiss federal charges against Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan.

play

  • Judge Lynn Adelman denied an motion to dismiss a federal lawsuit against Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan.
  • Dugan is accused of obstructing an immigrant officer trying to arrest undocumented immigrants in court.
  • Adelman rejected Dugan’s allegations of judicial immunity and breach of separation of power.
  • If Dugan does not appeal, a trial could take place later this year.

US District Judge Lynn Adelman has cleared the trial path for the charges that denied an appeal against Milwaukee County’s Judge Hannah Dugan and obstructed an immigrant officer who came to court to arrest him.

In a significant and highly anticipated ruling, Adelman backed off the arguments of Dugan’s powerful legal team that the judge was immune from the prosecution and that the case was an example of a judicial overreach.

Adelman’s ruling agrees with the report of US Magistrate Judge Nancy Joseph, who recommended that Dugan cases not be dismissed in early July.

“There is no basis for granting immunity, because it explains the possibility that some of the claims for the prosecution could be considered “part of the judge’s job,” Adelman wrote in the 27-page ruling.

“As the Magistrate Judge pointed out, the same can be said for bribery prosecutors, where bribery is valid, where the judge was charged with conducting official acts intertwined with bribery.”

Adelman, 85, was appointed by Democrat Bill Clinton and is considered by some of the nation’s most liberal federal judges.

The lawsuit against Dugan highlights the escalation of tensions between the country’s judges and the Trump administration, in order to promote crackdowns on undocumented immigrants.

In his decision, Adelman rejected an attempt to link the case to a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that ties the case with a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that ties with the allegedly immune from the prosecutor when he acted in official capacity.

Adelman also rejected Dugan’s claim that her arrest and prosecutors were a violation of the separation of state and federal powers under the US Constitution.

However, the judge said Dugan raised “very realistic concerns” about his judicial immunity.

“She could not prosecute a judge by handling contraband during trial, if official conduct did not enjoy immunity, or could not be charged with scheduling a hearing in a way that would inconveniently render federal law enforcement,” Adelman wrote. He then wondered if a state judge could be accused of ordering undocumented immigrants to detention and blocking planned arrests by federal immigration authorities.

The response by federal prosecutors on the issue was “dissatisfied,” Adelman wrote.

Adelman was scheduled for a hearing in court in downtown Milwaukee at 11am on September 3, 2025. Dugan will not be displayed.

Adelman said he would like to know at such a hearing if there is an appeal. The appeals are sent to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals covering cases in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana, and are headquartered in Chicago.

The appeal freezes the process until the High Court rules and postpone the trial in 2026.

However, if Dugan’s team doesn’t appeal, the trial could likely be scheduled earlier this year.

In a statement, Dugan’s legal team said, “While we are disappointed with this decision, we look forward to the trial. This shows that Judge Dugan has not done anything wrong, and simply handled the case in the same way as anyone else before her court.”

The statement did not clarify whether Dugan plans to appeal the decision.

The US law firm did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Dugan is currently suspended along with his salary by order from the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Joseph issued her report after Dugan’s attorney filed a motion for rejection. Adelman cited Joseph’s report several times in his ruling.

Dugan has been accused of Eduardo Flores Luis, an undocumented immigrant charged with battery, for avoiding federal immigration officials in April 2025.

Dugan was indicted in May and pleaded not guilty. The trial was scheduled for July, but was cancelled as a motion to dismiss Advanced.

Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan commented to Milwaukee Police about the incident in court.

Milwaukee Police Station

Federal prosecutors upheld Joseph’s recommendations, saying the defense mischaracterized the previous court’s decision. They also argued that the criminal charges stemmed from her “unilateral, illegal and informal actions other than the role of a Wisconsin judge.”

Dugan blocked federal agencies on May 13, attempting to help undocumented immigrant Flores Lewis escape federal agents on April 18th in Milwaukee County Court.

Flores Lewis, 31, was taken into custody following a pursuit outside the courthouse. Federal officials say Flores Lewis illegally re-entered the United States from Mexico after being deported.

FBI agents later arrested Dugan in court, making her a famous example of a clash between the Trump administration and the judiciary.

Dugan, 66, pleaded not guilty to the felony and misdemeanor charges she faces. If convicted, she will face up to six years in prison, while first-time nonviolent offenders will usually receive shorter sentences or probation.

Flores Lewis agreed to plead guilty to illegally entering the United States after being deported in 2013. His misdemeanor battery case is on trial later this year.

Donald Trump places emphasis on Taylor Swift Travis Kelce’s engagement

play

President Donald Trump is counting among those who valued Taylor Swift and Travis Kelse’s engagement.

Trump recognized the involvement of the Popstar and the Kansas City Chiefs with tight ends during a cabinet meeting Tuesday. What is his reaction to the news?

“Well, I want a lot of luck from them,” Trump said. “I think he’s a great player, a great guy. I think she’s a great guy. So I wish them a lot of luck.”

Trump’s Swift praise is a stark contrast to his mention of her last year. After Swift supported Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign, Trump posted, “I Hate Taylor Swift!” On his true social platform.

In May, Trump said, “I hate Taylor Swift,” so did everyone realize that?

Neither Kelce nor Swift responded to Trump’s latest comments that they didn’t want them very well.

Kelse and Swift have been romantically linked since 2023. They began dating shortly after Kelce gave Swift a romantic overture on an episode of his “New Heights” podcast.

The two announced their engagement on a joint Instagram post on Tuesday.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are married,” read the Swift post.

President Donald Trump rebrands “One Big Beautiful Bill”

0

play

President Donald Trump’s signature legislation is to acquire the brand in a vote that shows that the vote is unpopular.

Trump said at his cabinet meeting at the White House on August 26th that he was not calling the new law one big beautiful bill.

The law’s name doesn’t support the White House pitching, Trump said.

“So, bill, I’m not going to use the word big beadie,” Trump said. “It was good to approve it, but it’s not good to explain to people what it is.”

Instead, Trump focused on the tax provisions of the law, extending the 2017 tax cut and adding new tax cuts.

“It’s a massive tax cut for the middle class,” Trump said on August 26th.

The new law also includes deep spending on immigration enforcement and military spending, as well as Medicaid, which Democrats and some Republicans have been heavily criticised.

Democrats have united against the measure, saying they disproportionately benefited the wealthy and hurt low-income Americans. The CBO estimates that 12 million people will lose their health insurance, while the Senate Joint Economic Committee’s minority estimates that around 20 million people could lose their coverage. Medicaid has been cut by nearly $1 trillion.

A Pew Research Center survey earlier this month found several Americans opposed the law. Pew’s survey found that 46% of Americans disapprove the law, 32% agreed, and 23% say they’re not sure. An SSRS survey conducted against CNN after Trump signed the measure on July 4th found that 61% of adults were opposed to the new law.

Vance traveled to Wisconsin on August 27th to meet to promote legislation. He held previous events in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

When it comes to promoting Trump’s new law, pivoting for the GOP could be a challenge. Some Trump Cabinet members continued to call the law “one big beautiful bill.”

“I’ll keep saying, ‘One big beautiful bill’ until I ask you today for a little longer,” said Labor Secretary Lori Chavez Deremar.

John Bolton tore Donald Trump apart days after FBI searching at home and office

0

play

WASHINGTON – Former national security adviser John Bolton has returned to criticizing President Donald Trump following his FBI search of his home and office last week.

Bolton made his first statement since the FBI searched, referring to an FBI investigation that he had undergone an August 25 operation at Washington examiner and reopened that a former Trump aide criticized Trump’s foreign policy on Ukraine.

“Donald Trump’s Ukrainian policy today is less consistent than last Friday when his administration executed a search warrant against my home and office,” Bolton wrote, repeating the same line in PostX.

The focus of the FBI’s August 22 search targeting Bolton was not clear, but Vice President JD Vance said it contained “classified documents.” Democrats have condemned Bolton’s Justice Department investigation as a politically motivated attack on Trump’s enemy.

During TURMP’s first term, the Department of Justice launched a criminal investigation and filed a federal lawsuit attempting to block the publication of Bolton’s book, The Room Where Where: A White House Memoir.

Bolton, who served as the United Nations US ambassador, has been a regular Trump critic since serving him in his first term. Trump has previously cancelled Bolton’s security clearance and security details despite his plans to assassinate Iran.

“I’m not a John Bolton fan,” Trump told reporters last week. The FBI conducted a search for Bolton’s Bethesda, Maryland home and its Washington, DC office. “He’s a real low-life creature.”

Playing cards on Mount Rushmore? The original sculptor said the fifth head was impossible

0

play

  • Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has introduced a bill that will add Donald Trump’s face to Mount Rushmore.
  • The bill is stagnant in the House Committee on Natural Resources.
  • Mount Rushmore sculptors said it would be difficult to add another face due to limited space.

Republicans have moved to honor President Donald Trump in many bills, including one for carving his face next to others on Mount Rushmore.

The South Dakota National Memorial shows the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. According to the National Park Service, the sculpture began in 1927 and was completed in 1941.

The bill introduced in January to add Trump’s face to the memorial did not elaborate on how he fits (it wasn’t going ahead in Congress). However, the original sculptor said he suspected someone else could fit into the memorial, as reported by NBC News in the past.

So, how else will Trump be commemorated if not for Mount Rushmore? Here’s what we know:

The building that places Trump on Mount Rushmore is stuck

R-Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna introduced a bill in January that proposed carving Trump on Mount Rushmore.

Luna’s bill announcement included a stone rendering of Trump’s figure next to Lincoln, not including details on the timing or funding of the project.

“President Trump’s bold leadership and unwavering dedication to American greatness solidified his position in history,” Luna said in a press release. “Mount Rushmore, a timeless symbol of freedom and strength in our country, deserves to reflect his towering legacy, a legacy that has been further cemented by the powerful start of his second term.”

The bill has not passed a House Committee on Natural Resources.

Mount Rushmore artist said there was no space for the fifth person

In a letter to Eleanor Roosevelt, archived by the Theodore Roosevelt Center at Dickinson State University, Mount Rushmore sculptor Guzzon Borglum explained that “the stone restrictions are very serious,” so the fifth head was probably impossible.

The letter, entered in 1936, appears to respond to her proposal to include suffrage Susan B. Anthony in the monument. Borglum also explained that the monument was created after many discussions to represent a “short, clear statement.”

“If Mount Rushmore were simply a gallery of immortality, we would have chosen a mountain range that would have recognized twice as many as the greatest politics that would have been twice as much service than most of our official world,” the letter read.

Some bills honoring Trump did not accomplish that from Congress. This did that

  • Washington DC Airport -Rep. Addison McDowell of R-North Carolina introduced a law in January to rename Washington Dulles International Airport to Donald J. Trump International Airport, but failed to commission earlier this year.
  • Washington DC Train – In May, R-Florida Rep. Greg Stutube introduced the “Make Autorail Great Act,” designed to rename transports to the Washington metro area as “Washington metro area authorities) and metro trains as “Trump trains.” He was featured on the House Committee on Transport and Infrastructure.
  • $100 invoice – In March, Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, introduced the Golden Age Act of 2025. The $100 bill currently features Benjamin Franklin. He was featured on the House Committee on Financial Services.
  • $500 invoice – The 2024 bill called for a $500 bill to be printed on Trump’s face. (A $500 memo was last printed in 1945. It was discontinued due to lack of use.) It did not pass the Financial Services Commission.
  • Trump Account – aPart of the Republican tax system passed in July, babies born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028, will receive a $1,000 donation to their savings accounts. The program, once known as the “MAGA Account,” was renamed the “Trump Account” during the legislative process.

It was a love story, and Taylor Swift said yes.

Music superstar and three-time Super Bowl winner Travis Kelce announced that they will be engaged in getting married and will please fans all over the world. They shared a joint post on Instagram on Tuesday afternoon, joking, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are married.”

The giant couple shared a carousel of five people, Swift and Kelce, surrounded by Travis and flowers on one knee. There is no word on when his fiancée will take place, but soon began to be poured out from the world of music, sports and more.

Keep up with the live update of USA Today Network.

Swift + Kelce Special Edition

Swift and Kelce’s Instagram posts feature close-up shots of the singer’s engagement rings with their announcement of their engagement, and the USA Today Network can confirm that it was created by Kindred Lubeck in Artifex Fine Jewelry.

It is a gorgeous cut from an old mine, and I also wear a gold band that fits the Cartier Watch Swift in the photo.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Kelse’s teammate and best friend, has reposted his engagement announcement on an Instagram story with three heart emojis.

Kelce Brothers podcast New Heights shared a clip of Jason Kelce asking Travis about the ERAS tour concert she attended two years ago, then using the “How it started and how it went” meme format to share photos of her engagement.

The official NFL social media accounts reposted photos from the proposal and shared clips of Kelce and Swift after the Chiefs’ victory at Super Bowl 58.

Second-rank women’s tennis player Iga Swiatek turned to Swiftie, but the news of engagement was broken to her about the set of network coverage at ESPN’s US Open, replied, “Oh my God, I’m so happy to her.”

– Chris Bumba

Swift and Kelce from Trump: “I wish them a lot of luck‘

President Donald Trump has always been Taylor Swift’s biggest fan, but he had a warm wish to the musician and her footballer’s fiancé Travis Kelse about their engagement.

“I think he’s a great player. I think he’s a great guy,” Trump said Tuesday at the White House. “And I think she’s a great person, so I wish them a lot of luck.”

Trump repeatedly denounced Swift for supporting Kamala Harris, a 2024 Democratic opponent.

“Look at singer Taylor Swift, awakened,” Trump wrote in an August 4 social media post. “Since she warned the world about the truth that she couldn’t stand her (hate!). She left the Super Bowl and it wasn’t getting hot anymore. The tide turned seriously.

– Zach Anderson

The real-life ROM Com was unfolded on the football field after Kelce went on the ERAS tour in Kansas City in 2023, and the concert was stopped.

“I was disappointed that I didn’t talk before or after the show.

After he exploded her into “New Heights,” Swift reached for him and the two quietly began dating until they made it public on September 24, 2023, when Swift attended the Chiefs vs. Bears match.

Kelse visited Swift’s over three-hour shows in Australia, Australia, Singapore, France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany and Indianapolis 14 times.

Swift has long-term relationships with other celebrities like Joe Alwyn and Calvin Harris, but Swift has never been in public before.

Previously linked to sports journalist and model Kayla Nicole, Kelse has not been publicly involved with anyone before her relationship with Swift.

– Anna Kaufman

For a while, happy news from Swift and Kelce overshadowed the president.

Shortly after Swift’s post, Fox News broke away from ongoing coverage of Trump’s Cabinet meeting in Washington and shared the news, according to Hill.

“She has the perfect sense of timing,” one commenter who posted on X.

“Stolen the Trump spotlight is her favorite thing,” another said.

In the 2024 season, Swift only participated in the home game of Arrowhead Stadium, turning the stadium tunnel into a personal runway.

The photographer and reporter took photos of her looks, from local vintages to designer label fashion. She attended the Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans, and when she was shown on screen for a few seconds, a heavy Eagles crowd booed her.

Kelce Hard began the relationship on Instagram at the start of Kansas City training camp in July, posting a carousel of 13 photos with captions. The main photo shows Kelse smiling from ear to ear in a “Captain” gold anchor cap, and Swift points to his “first mate.”

With the GQ profile released on August 12th, Kelce gushed out about Swift’s work ethic, stamina and value.

“When we don’t have a camera, we’re only two people in love,” Kelse said in the film. “Because of how much it’s been talked about and how much it’s tracked every time we go out, it can be perceived as something else, but it’s as normal…it happened very organically despite it being tracked from a media perspective.

It can be said that Swift has tied an invisible string between her and the Kansas City tight end from the start. On his debut album of “Oh My My My” he said, “I’m 87. You’ll be 89/I’ll see you like the star that will make you shine.

His Chiefs’ number is 87, and her album “1989” refers to the year she was born. The singer sang the song on July 6th in Amsterdam as part of a mashup to Kelce.

Kelce was the only guy Swift changed her lyrics and became a tradition on the Eras Tour. During her song “Karma” from “Midnights”, she switched “Karma is the Man on Screen” to “Karma is the Man of the Chiefs.” She played the line that was changed 14 times when he was in the audience, and twice when the Chiefs won the match during her concert.

Finally, with songs she may have written with him in mind, she kicks out “The Alchemy” and “So High School” from the “Tortured Poets Division.” At her 87th show in Paris, she sang, “This happens once every few years.”

The wrist bands of all concert participants glowed bright red, and the crowd roared. Swift made the concert “The Alchemy” the closing credits song, replacing “You Are in Your Child.” She also incorporated “So High School” into her second year setlist, with a move inspired by Kelce’s endzone dance. In the lyric video, the soccer lighting shows “TS” and “TK” bright pink “TK” at 0:43.

Trump says cracker barrels should go back to their old logo

Trump’s foray into the cracker barrel controversy comes after restaurant chains faced new signs and a backlash from branded magazines.

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump jumped into the cracker barrel controversy and advised restaurant chains to return to old signs following a magazine backlash towards the company’s brand.

Trump’s foray into the cracker barrel debate comes as a simpler, more modern look, including only the restaurant’s name, after Republican lawmakers criticised the Tennessee-based restaurant for dumping its long-standing logo, and then featured a man in overalls sitting next to a wooden barrel.

“Cracker Barrel needs to go back to its old logo, acknowledge mistakes based on customer response (the ultimate poll) and manage the company more than ever,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on August 26.

Trump added that Cracker Barrel “gets $1 billion worth of publicity if he played the card correctly.” He said, “We have a massive press conference today” and “We’ll make the cracker barrel a winner again.”

“It’s very difficult to do, but it’s a great opportunity,” Trump said.

The cracker barrel makeover, which also includes a brighter, more modern dining room, is filled with widespread criticism, but calls it a “awakening brand” especially among Maga politicians and influencers.

“I woke up and it broke,” the White House wrote in X’s post. This displayed the logo of a revamped cracker barrel along with the cards, as if the cards were leaning against the barrel.

Cracker Barrel issued a company statement on August 25 in response to criticism of the logo, standing by its new look, realizing that some people don’t like it.

“If the last few days show us something, it’s just how deeply people care about the barrel of crackers. We’re really grateful for your sincere voice,” the company said. “You also showed us that we could do a better job of who we are and who we are all the time.”

Devon Walker set up as an exit

The annual “Saturday Night Live” cast shakeup has officially begun.

Devon Walker showed in an Instagram post on August 25th that he would leave the NBC sketch show after three seasons. The comedian said, “Did you wait or have you been fired?”

“I did the show together for three years and it was really cool at times,” Walker wrote. “It was toxic at times like hell, but we did what we made the most of it, even amid all the dysfunction.”

Walker, 34, captioned the post, “Me and Baby have broken up.” In his Instagram story, he described his departure as “good news,” adding, “it was time for me to do something different.”

The comic has starred in “SNL” since 2022, and joined the cast alongside fellow newcomers Michael Longfellow, Marcello Hernandez and Molly Carney.

The announcement came after another behind the scenes change. On August 24th, Celeste Im announced his departure as a writer for “SNL” after five seasons. In an Instagram post, Yim, who joined in 2020, said that he “literally made all of my dreams come true.”

“SNL” usually says goodbye to some members of the cast while bringing in new blood during the season. Most recently, Molly Kearney, Punkie Johnson and Chloe Troast left the show in 2024 between season 49 and season 50, but Jane Wickline, Ashley Padilla and Emil Wakim were added. Trost said the exit was not her decision and she “will not be returned.”

“I hope to come back with all the great friends I made there. It really felt like home,” Trost said. “But that wasn’t on the card.”

“SNL” is off the landmark’s 50th season. The show is marked with a Primetime special featuring many of the past stars. Towards the season 50 finale, speculation went wild among fans whose cast members could leave. The season finale on May 17th saw no obvious send-off suggesting whose final episode the cast members were, but the show enjoyed the theory.

In the monologue song, host Scarlett Johansson sang, “Sarah (Sharman) Leaves.” The “Weekend Update” then joked about speculation that Colin Jost might leave his role as anchor taking over the job of “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels.

In a recent interview with Puck, Michaels said the cast would need to be put together until season 50 to prevent “confusion,” but he teased that season 51 changes were in store.

“SNL” is scheduled to return on Saturday, October 4th with the Season 51 premiere.

Law Cheat Sheet: Understanding the State Courts and the Constitution

0

State Court Report We dedicate our compensation to the state courts and the state constitution. Each state has its own constitutional and state-level judicial divisions. When a recent federal court ruling cut rights under the US Constitution, the state constitution and the role of courts means their role as guardians of independent rights.

But only a few law schools offering state constitutional courses. State Court Report It’s here to help.

I edited some of the explainers I think were law school. Whether this is an introduction to the state courts, constitutional law or a review, find these works.

How the State’s Constitution is Developed – State Constitution Amendment

A distinctive feature of the national constitution is that they can be changed relatively easily. The US Constitution only has 27 amendments, but 50 state constitutions have been amended about 7,000 times. The ability to be more responsive has been reflected in the 10 states that voters have recently approved amendments to abortion rights since the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision. Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Agency There is no federal right to abortion.

As Professor John Dinnan of Wake Forest explains in his Overview of the 50 States, this process varies from state to state and is employed in a constitutional amendment of states generated by legislative councils initiated by citizens, or recommended by committees. Regardless of how they occur, proposed amendments will generally be placed on state voters for final say.

When a state court has the final say – U.S. Supreme Court review of state cases

State court jurisdiction is broad and state court judges can determine both state and federal law issues. While state courts have a final say on the matter of state law, when interpreting federal law, the US Constitution and Congress may allow direct appeals to the US Supreme Court to ensure federal law is applied correctly. However, the situation in which the Supreme Court could review such cases is not always a clear reduction.

I wrote an article laying out complex rules developed around the Supreme Court review of state decisions. Most notably, the Supreme Court will not review state decisions, including issues of federal law, if it falls into “appropriate and independent” state status. State courts can clearly interpret and apply the state constitution to resolve cases, at least in a manner as protective as the federal constitution and law. When they do so, I explain, they should have the last word under this rule.

How state courts evaluate laws that limit rights – scrutiny level

Courts in all 50 states allow state lawmakers to pass laws that restrict the constitutional rights of states, but only to a certain extent. In determining whether a challenged law is too restrictive, state courts apply different tests (often referred to as the level or layer of scrutiny) that generally consider the rights affected, governmental rationales, and how restrictions relate to that government’s interests.

Morgan Munroe, a student at NYU, and I discuss “stricken scrutiny”, “intermediate scrutiny”, and “reasonable grounds” tests commonly used for state rights, as well as many federal tests, and interstate variations specific to certain freedoms, such as gun rights. The tests applied to laws challenged by courts usually determine how possible the law is likely to pass a constitutional convened.

National Constitution as a Protective Means of Democracy – Voting Rights

Voting and elections are important, often overlooked areas where state constitutions provide more comprehensive protection than the US constitution, meaning only the right to vote. As Professor Cardozo Law and Brennan Center Fellow Wilfred U. Codrington III writes, 49 out of the 50 state constitutions expressly and positively award the rights, including provisions requiring that more than half of the elections be “free,” “equal,” or “open.”

The state’s constitution generally provides clearer and more specific coverage on a variety of controversial issues that imply voting rights, Codrington explains, including disputes challenging voter registration, election management, elections, party primary elections, campaign finance and rezoning. Also, as mentioned above, it is a source of voters’ ability in many states to directly modify a state’s constitution through civic initiatives.

Enforcement tool to draw famous issues in state courts – Mandama’s warrant

Mandamas is a centuries-old relief, and can be filed by litigants directly bringing a keen issue to the state Supreme Court, written by University of Florida Law Professor Jonathan Marshfield. In principle, the court may order a civil servant to order a court warrant if such an order is necessary to protect the clear rights of the parties seeking it.

You may hear new lawsuits that generally seek Mandamas relief, not the US Supreme Court, but in court courts that are only in the federal system, but many state constitutions give this power to state high courts. That is, Marshfield writes, “In just a few days, a litigant can raise the issue before the state’s high court, and a small number of judges can decide the fate of the election, the candidate for the vote, or the allocation of national funds.”

The composition of federal courts vs. state courts – Judicial elections

While a federal judge is appointed, 38 states use elections to select or reselect additional terms. Judicial election, AS State Court Report As Alicia Bannon’s editors state in this overview, it could affect the way state constitutions are developed, including prior questions in state courts and compliance with past decisions. It can put judges – who are asked to play the role of rebutters, but rely on voter support to keep their jobs – in an uncomfortable place.

Especially since then dobbs The main focus of conflicts that have made state law the main focus of abortion rights explains that judicial elections have become the main political battlefield for most of the country, attracting tens of millions of dollars, special benefits and attack ads. The Supreme Court’s decision to reduce state restrictions on judicial candidates sharing their views on issues being contested and allowing unlimited external spending is also contributing to the current environment.

Other Jurisdictions – Territories, Tribes, Washington, DC

It’s not just the jurisdiction within the US. The five territories in the United States, Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands each have their own court system and constitutional or functionally similar organic conduct. In this overview, Brennan Centre adviser Michael Milov Cordova explains that these administrative documents function in many ways like state constitutions, with most territorial high courts having final words on local territorial laws similar to state courts. But the federal government’s authority over the territory also makes a big difference.

A similar paradigm exists in Washington, DC. Washington, DC is not a state or territory, but is a federal district subject to legislative oversight. In this article, Milov-Cordoba summarizes the distinctive features of the DC court system and the Home Rules Act. He is sometimes referred to as the district’s “de facto constitution.”

The American Indian tribes also have their own judicial and governing structures, including many constitutions, which also elaborate on.

Although these articles focus on summarizing the state of play across the nation, State Court Report There is also a series that explains the history and habits of individual national constitutions. You can study yourself and gain insight into important functions that have been implemented more widely by the state’s constitution.
