In Türkiye, your coffee has a side of destiny

Calling Turkish coffee “just a drink” is below that. It is a ritual, a conversation, and undoubtedly, as an ancestor of all modern coffee, it is nearly 500 years of history, and is engraved on the human list of its intangible cultural heritage.

The coffee roots are back. Lani Kingston, an adjunct professor at Portland State University, says a single coffee bean that dated since the 12th century was discovered in an archaeological site in the United Arab Emirates. By 1350, tools for serving coffee were introduced to Türkiye, Egypt and Persia.

The story of Turkish coffee begins in Yemen, not in Türkiye. In the 15th century, Sufi mystics are said to consume it to keep them awake during long nights of prayer and devotion. When Sultan Suleiman, known as the epic Europe, seized Yemen in 1538, invaded the Ottoman Empire. Within a year, the beans arrived in Constantinople. This is now Istanbul.

In 1539, Admiral Hayredin Barbarossa of the Ottoman Empire registered property, including “Kahve Odası” or coffee room, according to cemal Kafadar, author of the Harvard Cafadar Academic Paper on Coffee.

By the 1550s, the first “Kahvehanes” or coffee houses appeared in Istanbul, recorded in his book by historian Ibrahim Peshevi. “The history of Peshevi. “The new popularity of beverages became a hallmark of gastronomy researchers Melin, in the Ottoman Sesbrick method shared with Greece. Produces unfiltered drinks.

The coffee house sparked controversy. Asian and European religious scholars and political leaders viewed them as places of disruptive activity and neglecting chat. Haia Bay, governor of Mecca, banned coffee in the city in 1511. This is an order that lasts for 13 years due to concerns leading to underlying ideas. Ottoman Sultan repeatedly closed the cafe about similar horrors. They never completely disappeared. Even in 17th century England, Charles II “sought to close them, suspecting that anti-Loyalist instigation and rebellious conversations were happening in those coffee shops,” says London tour guide Chris McNeill.

Turkish coffee is “more than a drink,” says Seden Doden, an assistant professor of mentoring at the University of South Florida and from Safranborg in northern Turkey. Doan calls it a “bridge” and promotes sharing.

Today, coffee is an unofficial catch-up drink from Türkiye. Like many countries, when two friends who have been away for a while want to chat, they say, “Let’s have a cup of coffee.” In Türkiye, it means something more specific: “Come, I’ll make you a cup of Turkish coffee.”

The preparation ritual is precise and thorough, and includes a sedge placed on the heat, preferably a small, long, treated pot called hot coal or sand. The finest coffee grounds are cooked slowly to give off a rich flavor and create a beautiful top layer of foam that is considered a mark of quality.

A proper Turkish coffee should be kept hot and foamy, along with a cup of water and a lokum or Turkish delight. Water cleanses the palate, and Rokum balances the bitterness of the drink.

Coffee etiquette is equally important. It is served in a small cup, but it’s a quiet, slow, drunk so that you don’t rush like espresso. This gives the basis a time to settle and holds them at the bottom of the cup.

Once the cup is empty, it’s time to have a tassegrafie ritual or a coffee cup reading. The cup is flipped to its saucer and cooled to the left, and the shapes and symbols perceived within the remaining premises are “readed” for meaning. These are mostly in-situ, but fish usually mean luck. Birds indicate journey.

Fortunetelling is generally discouraged in Islamic culture, but reading coffee cups is considered “playful, symbolic interpretations” and “communal rituals.”

Dodean agrees: “We do it for fun.” Tasseography is an act of storytelling, and Doğan says she spends an hour reading, weaving stories and focusing on positive outcomes.

Turkish coffee rituals also find a way to other national traditions. During courtship, the future bride prepares and serves Turkish coffee to the groom and his family. To test his personality, she adds plenty of salt to the groom’s coffee. If he drinks without complaints, he proves his patience, maturity and value.

In 1652, the first coffee shop opened in London. The site, located in St. Michael's Alley, is still marked with plaque.

The coffee quickly moved west. Venetians may have first encountered it through trading connections. However, there is a more clearer link between the original coffee scenes of Türkiye and London. Daniel Edwards, a merchant from a Levant company who lived in Smyrna, and modern-day Izmir brought his servant Pasca Rose to London. In 1652, Rose opened what is believed to be the first coffee shop in the city at St. Michael’s Alley.

In Penny’s case, customers were able to drink as much as they wanted, taking part in a lively conversation. Like the Turkish “Kabehanes,” these “Penny University” were hubs of news, politics and sometimes opposition. Specifically, they were the opposite of men. Women were not allowed to drink coffee in either culture, but in London women were able to at least work in coffee shops.

Despite its rich history and cultural significance, Turkish coffee did not have global brand recognition for espresso. Sever condemns the generational gap. “We’ve limited Turkish coffee to rituals. For young people, it’s now considered something you drink with your parents,” she says.

She says innovation is necessary for global appeal. Doan disagrees, insists that tradition must be protected.

Others work hard to introduce Turkish coffee to the world. Ayşe Kapusuz holds a Turkish coffee workshop in London, and in New York Urchurgen (Dr. Honeybrew) runs a Turkish coffee room, offering coffee drinking and fortune-telling theatre sessions.

“In spite of the bitter taste of Turkish coffee, Americans drink it to the last drop for a cup reading performance,” he says.

Today, even in the bakery, you can try traditional Turkish coffees across from Istanbul.

To find an authentic coffee experience in Turkey, Kapusuz is recommended to find a place that is slowly prepared in Cesbes, preferably slowly prepared on hot sand, served with thick foam and Lokum and water.

In Istanbul, Kapus recommends Hafiz Mustafa. Sever proposes Mandabatmaz on Independence Street and Nuri Toplar in the city’s Egyptian bazaar. To add a modern twist, she proposes Kadikoy’s hacıbekir.

Coffee cup measurements can be found in Istanbul’s Sultanahmet district or near Tunell in Beior, but Doan suggests a more personal approach. The experience is more about storytelling and human connection than fortune telling. It may simply mean asking locals drinking coffee for help to find the fascinating story waiting at the bottom of the cup.

Chick Phil opens its first restaurant in the UK in Singapore

Chick-Fil-A has announced plans to open its first permanent restaurant in the UK and Singapore later this year.

In a news release on August 26th, the chicken chain announced it would open its first restaurant in Leeds in the fall, opening a Singapore location in late 2025, marking the beginning of a decade-long $75 million investment in Asia.

Chick-fil-a outlined plans to open restaurants in Europe and Asia by 2026 and five international locations by 2030. The company announced in 2023 that it plans to open five locally owned and operated restaurants in the UK in the first two years of its plan, and then continue to expand in the UK from there. All brands plan to invest more than $100 million in the UK over the course of 10 years.

In September 2024, the company announced that it would open new restaurants in Belfast, Leeds, Liverpool and London, marking the chain’s first location outside of North America.

“Expanding in both Europe and Asia is a meaningful milestone for Chick-Fil-A,” according to a news release on August 26th. said Andrew T. Chathy, CEO of the company. “The investments we make in the UK and Singapore are not only opportunities for our business, but also opportunities to bring Chick Phil something that makes something special in a new place.

Both Leeds and Singapore restaurants are owned and operated by individuals born and raised in the countries they serve. Chick-fil-A says each restaurant will add between 70 and 120 new jobs through local employment.

“Where we do business, our unique franchise model and the dedication of our local Chickfil A owner operators who are deeply involved in our restaurants every day are key to our success.”

The history of Chickfil A in the UK

The company opened a temporary store in a UK reading mall in 2019 and quickly met protests from local LGBTQ+ rights activists.

Oracle, the shopping mall where the restaurant leased the space, did not allow Chickfil A to extend the lease beyond the “six-month pilot period,” according to the BBC.

In 2019, the BBC reported that a pride campaigner reading campaigners for local LGBTQ advocacy groups asked people to boycott the chain with a million dollar donation to organizations such as the Christian Athlete Fellowship, Paul Anderson Youth Home, and the US Salvation Army.

According to Reading Pride at the time, all three organizations had a reputation for being hostile to LGBTQ rights.

“We are stubbornly opposed to Chick-fil-a, who set up shops in the UK and certainly read,” the group said in 2019. Statement on X, previously known as Twitter. “The chain’s spirit and moral attitude are completely contrary to our values. We have been a progressive country that (legalized) same-sex marriage for several years and have been striving for equality.”

In late 2019, Chick-Fil-A changed its approach to charitable giving in response to criticism from LGBTQ rights groups. In a statement, the company said it will “deepen donations to a small number of organizations” by focusing on education, homelessness and hunger.

“In addition, the foundation no longer makes a multi-year commitment and will have the greatest impact by reevaluating its philanthropic partnerships each year,” the company said in a statement. “These partners could include faith-based charities and non-faith-based charities.”

Trump and Pretzker fight Chicago. Will the army be deployed?

  • President Trump said he is considering deploying the National Guard in Chicago after deploying it to fight crime in Washington, D.C.
  • Trump claims that Chicago is a “disaster” and a “sacrificed field,” despite statistics showing a decline in violent crime.
  • Illinois Governor JB Pretzker opposes the development and calls it an “authoritarian power glove.”

President Donald Trump strengthened the National Guard tactics in Washington, DC, after he said he would send troops to other cities.

First, Trump says, Chicago, Illinois.

Trump has long criticised Chicago as the fourth most populous city in the United States.

Violent crime in Chicago has fallen by 22% compared to the same period last year. This reflects a July report from the Criminal Justice Council that shows that most crime categories are declining in other cities around the US

Trump argues that Chicago is a “disaster” and a “slaying field” that allows the National Guard to be used, despite local leaders criticizing the idea. Here’s what you need to know:

Is Trump sending troops to Chicago, Illinois?

Trump has yet to mobilize the Chicago National Guard, but he threatened him.

“Chicago is in chaos,” Trump said on August 22. “You have an incompetent mayor. You’re terribly incompetent. Maybe next time you’ll straighten it. This will be the next thing,” he said.

However, when asked again on Monday, August 25th, he admitted that Chicago leadership did not welcome the move.

“I told some people, in a way, you really wanted to ask me to go,” he said. “You know? I hate going to the city and get treated horribly by corrupt and bad politicians. Like a guy like (jb pritzker)… a man is a disaster.”

Who is Illinois Governor JB Pretzker?

JB Pritzker was elected to the Illinois Governor’s Office in 2018. According to Forbes, the heir to the Hyatt Hotel property, he is one of the wealthiest politicians in the United States.

He has long been an outspoken critic of Trump, saying the president’s threat to send the National Guard to Chicago was his attempt to “manufacture a crisis.”

“The safety of Illinois people has always been my number one priority,” Pretzker said in an August 23 news release. “There is no emergency that ensures that the US President will make the Illinois State Guard federal, deploy National Guard from other states, or deploy active duty troops to our own borders.”

Trump is aiming for Pretzker with an oval office comment

Trump called Chicago “disaster” and “the killing field” in his oval office on August 25th.

He also laughed at Pretzker, saying sending the National Guard would “take away authoritarian power.”

“When there are slobs that criticize us before we go there, we criticize us before we go there — I’m Chicago is the murder field now, and they don’t accept it, and “We don’t need them, freedom, freedom, he’s a dictator. Trump said Monday. “I don’t like dictators. I’m not a dictator. I’m a very common sense and clever person.”

Why did Trump deploy the National Guard to DC?

Trump said he has taken over Washington, D.C. to deal with crime and homelessness, despite the fact that violent crime has fallen by 26% in 2025 compared to last year. He deployed hundreds of National Guard troops and moved to place Metropolitan Police Stations under the Department of Justice.

Trump has special authority to deploy the National Guard to DC. He did so in 2020.

“We’re not going to lose a city about this. This will go further. We’re starting very strongly from DC,” Trump said, adding that he might aim for other cities in the future.

The move has sparked severe criticism from Democrats around the country.

“D.C.’s violent crime is at the lowest level in 30 years. We changed our laws and strategies due to unacceptable spikes in 2023,” Mayor Muriel Bowser said at a televised community meeting on August 12.

On August 25th, Trump signed an executive order aimed at using the National Guard to support law enforcement.

X and Xai Sue Apple and Openai claim AI exclusive claim

0

Elon Musk’s X and Xai have taken over Apple and Openai, competing to compete with the AI-exclusive tech giants.

The corporation’s lawsuit filed in federal court in Texas claims that posting the exclusive partnership between Apple and Openai on the iPhone is a calculated move by two monopolies working together to ensure continued control.

With the agreement to deeply integrate ChatGpt into Apple’s operating system, the world’s most famous AI assistant is now one of the world’s most famous AI assistants, allowing you to control the core iPhone features. It effectively locks rivals like Xai’s own chatbot, Grok.

The lawsuit alleges that this cites the Openai Strategic Document, which denies a fair choice and ironically states, “Actual choices promote competition and benefit everyone. Users should be able to choose an AL assistant.”

According to the complaints, the real award is data. Generated AI creates a smarter, better, and more powerful feedback loop, making it smarter, better and more powerful.

By providing ChatGPT’s exclusive access to potential billions of prompts from hundreds of millions of iPhones, the partnership effectively builds an inexplicable “moat” around Openai’s market leadership. It helps them maintain the suspicion of AI monopoly as they are hungry for the data competitors they need to improve their own models and truly compete.

This data stream is extremely valuable, the lawsuit claims Openai is offering Apple the technology for free, taking into account access “of equal or greater value than monetary payments.”

As to why Apple agrees to this, the lawsuit argues that it is the rise of “super apps,” a defensive move against existential threats. These all-in-one applications (similar to the popular Chinese platform WeChat, as one X is building) combine social media, messaging, payments and other services into a single platform.

These super apps will reduce the importance of smartphones themselves as they become more powerful with cloud-based AI services. Users can purchase cheaper phones, get all the necessary features from the app, and threaten Apple’s favorable hardware sales.

The complaint claims Apple is keenly aware of this danger, citing a manager at one company who warned that taking over the super app was like allowing “barriers at the gates.”

However, the claims do not stop with a merged transaction. The exclusive lawsuit also accuses Apple of using iron grips on the App Store to tilt the scale from certain AI apps.

The lawsuit alleges that X and Xai’s highly ranked apps have been intentionally buried and removed from the App Store’s prestigious “required apps” list, but ChatGpt has been featured prominently. This is said to be backed up by a postponed approval of GROK app updates, further enhancing its competitive capabilities.

X and Xai allege that this act is harming everyone. By suffocating competition, this partnership is said to result in less consumer innovation, fewer options and higher prices. The broader AI exclusive lawsuit aims to demolish the arrangement and recover the value and sales that have lost billions of dollars.

Australian police hunt gunman shot and killed two police officers in a rural town

Sydney, Australia
Reuters
–

In southern Australia, police said they shot and killed two officers on Tuesday as they tried to serve warrants on country property in rural Victoria.

Police said the suspect fired a team of 10 officers from Polepanca, about 300 kilometers (186 miles) northeast of Melbourne, at 10:30am local time (8:30pm Monday).

At a press conference Tuesday evening, Victoria Police Chief Mike Bush confirmed the 59-year-old detective, where a 35-year-old senior constable was fatally shot deadly and another detective was seriously injured and treated at the hospital.

He told reporters that the suspect was very armed and dangerous, urging the community to stay indoors as “hundreds of police resources” conducted ground and air searches in the area.

“The suspects in this horrifying event are still common,” Bush told reporters. “We deployed all the expert resources to this area to find him.”

“Our priority is to arrest him to make sure he is restrained to explain his actions, but it’s also very important to bring safety and security to this community.”

Local media outlet The Age said officers are offering warrants for historic sexual abuse allegations when they are ambushed by gunmen.

Bush said the suspect escaped the property on foot alone and it is unclear where his wife and two children are.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation also reported that police believe the shooters are “sovereign citizens.” Sovereign citizens believe the government is illegal.

The town of Polepanca is home to 1,000 residents and is located at a hub in Australia’s alpine range.

“Today has been a day of deep sadness and shock for our community,” Mayor Sarah Nicholas said in a statement.

Nicholas added that local council facilities across the town, including libraries, information centres and depots, will remain closed until further notice.

Polepanca Elementary School Principal Jill Gillees told ABC Radio Melbourne that the school was forced to lock down from 11:30am local time (9:30pm Monday). The ABC has since reported that the lockdown has been lifted.

The local airfields were also closed due to ongoing emergency response.

Wayne Gutt, chief executive of the Police Association’s Victoria Association, said executives across the country were shocked by the incident, a rare event in Australia.

“There’s a shocking, eerie feeling of fear, and there’s a feeling of not knowing what to do,” he said. “Today, our members paid the ultimate price to protect our community.”

New World Screw-Insect: An Unusual Human Case Identified in the US after a Trip from El Salvador

0

A rare case of travel-related New World screwworms has been identified in Maryland, a US Department of Health and Human Services spokesman, said it had been identified.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Maryland Department of Health are investigating a case of carnivorous parasites that was confirmed on August 4th, said Andrew Nixon, a spokesman for the HHS.

“This is the first human case of New World screwworm (fly larvae parasite invasion) related to travel from countries affected by the outbreak identified in the US,” Nixon said in an email. “Rising risks to public health in the United States right now from this implementation are very low.”

A spokesman for the Maryland Department of Health said in a statement that Maryland residents have recovered from the infection and “there are no indications of transmission to other individuals or animals.”

New World Screwworm Outbreaks – The shape of the fly larvae, a type of nest and slowly eats in the wounds of warm-blooded animals, has spread to Central America since early 2023, with invasions recorded in Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama. Fry reached southern Mexico late last year, raising concerns among US agricultural industry officials, and this year caused the closure of ports of cattle, horses and bison trading in the border area.

Parasites pose a major threat to animal populations and food supply. The US largely eradicated New World screwworm populations by breeding sterile male species in the 1960s and 1970s, dispersing them from planes and mating with wild female fly. This month, the USDA announced that it would build a fly production facility at Moore Air Force Base in Edinburg, Texas. It will work in facilities in Panama and Mexico, according to the USDA.

“The construction of a domestic sterile fly production facility ensures that the United States will continue to lead the way in the fight against this devastating pest,” USDA Secretary Brook Rollins said this month. “If ranchers are overrunning with foreign pests, we can’t feed ourselves.”

The USDA said it would offer up to $100 million for additional technologies, including traps, lures and techniques that could enhance flies production. The agency also said it would hire a mounted patrol officer known as “tick riders” for surveillance and train screw bug detection dogs to search for outbreaks among livestock.

This month, HHS issued an emergency declaration, allowing the US Food and Drug Administration to increase the flexibility of animal drugs to treat and prevent the invasion of new world screwworms. Although there are no FDA-approved drugs for New World screwworms in the United States, this declaration allows agencies to approve drugs for emergency permits.

The New World Screwworm is a parasitic larvae of the species of metallic blue blowfly called Cochliomyia hominivorax. Unlike all other blowflies native to the Western Hemisphere, New World Screwworms feed the meat of live animals rather than dead animals. Dr. Philip Kaufman, professor and director of the Department of Entomology at Texas A&M University, previously told CNN.

Carnivorous maggots go for most warm-blooded animals, including horses and cows. It can also infect pets and humans.

“After mating, the female fly finds a living host, lands on the wound, lays up to 200-300 eggs,” Kaufmann explained. “After 12-24 hours, all those eggs will hatch and soon begin to burrow into the animal’s tissue, creating a very large wound.”

Treatment of infected cows often includes washing, preservative treatment, and wound covering. If left untreated, the flies can kill the animal within a week or two, and spread to others.

“We’ve seen a lot of people who have had a lot of trouble with their health,” said Daniel Griffin, an infectious disease expert at Columbia University. “And when the eggs hatch, the maggots dig a hole and they quickly turn the living tissue into Swiss cheese.”

Live Update: Israeli Hamas War, Gaza hostage trade protests, Nasser Hospital Attack

0
Medic will assist an injured man at Nasser Hospital in Karn Eunice in Gaza after Israel attacked on Monday.

Israel faces global protests after launching a fatal strike at a hospital in southern Gaza.

Yesterday’s attack was a “double tap” strike. After the first explosion at Nasser Hospital, people gathered around the scene, with a tendency for victims, and journalists arrived and reported. Israel was then fired again.

At least 20 people were killed in the attack, including five journalists. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the incident was a “tragic accident.”

Here’s how the world responded:

• united nations: The UN Human Rights Office called for “justice and accountability” after the strike. At least 247 Palestinian journalists have been killed since October 7, 2023, spokesman Tamen al-Kitan said at a press conference Tuesday that he “should shock the world.”

• european union: An EU spokesman said Israel’s strike was “completely unacceptable.” “There were too many deaths in this conflict,” urged Israel to “have these attacks investigated.”

• England: Downing Street on Tuesday denounced Israel’s “irrepreneurable strike.” On Monday, Foreign Minister David Lamy called for an immediate ceasefire, calling for an Israeli attack “terrifying.”

•US: When asked to respond, President Donald Trump said yesterday that he had never heard of the strike, but he was “not happy about it.” “We have to end that whole nightmare,” he said.

•Germany: However, Prime Minister Friedrich Merz doesn’t believe the Israeli attacks targeted journalists, Reuters reported today. Mertz said he wanted to wait for the results of the Israeli investigation “before we make a final decision.”

•Spain: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Israeli strike is “a surprising and unacceptable violation of international humanitarian law and must be investigated.” He said journalists were given “special protection” and would not be targeted.

•France: President Emmanuel Macron said Israel’s strike at hospitals was “unbearable,” emphasising that “civilians and journalists must be protected in all circumstances.”

•Canada: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned “all violence against journalists and media workers” and once again called for an “immediate and permanent ceasefire.”

FTC sees a surge in losses due to money fraud “protect it to protect it”

0

play

  • Adults over the age of 60 were more likely to report very high losses.
  • The 18-year-old Michigan consumer lost $4,800 this summer and “forwarded” a scam “protect it to protect it” after receiving an email from someone impersonating a bank.
  • Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office has heard from victims of fraud. Victims of fraud were urged by someone who has been given the authority to transfer money to protect it from various false threats.

One of the strange but incredibly harmful scams involves a scammer artist who now pretends to be someone else and ultimately convinces you that you absolutely have to send your money to protect it.

Yes, people sadly end up moving thousands of dollars (sometimes six figures) directly into the con man’s pocket. Everything is driven by a long list of lies. Regulators say that such activities have skyrocketed significantly over the past four years.

New Federal Trade Commission data shows an increase of more than four times from 2020 to 2024. Reports from seniors say they lost more than $10,000 to a scammer who transfers to protect it to convince consumers to impersonate a trusted government agency or business.

The reality is that scammers have found another way to steal your money, sometimes saving your life.

They will sound a false alarm and hope you will hurry and send your money out the door.

Adults over the age of 60 are more likely to report very high losses, and many have lost more than $100,000 to such a “relocate it to protect it” scam.

The FTC’s latest spotlight in consumer protection data shows that the total loss reported by seniors who lost more than $100,000 to these scams has skyrocketed from $55 million in 2020 to $445 million in 2024.

Business credits and government fraudsters filed by seniors with losses of over $10,000 have reached 8,269 reports in 2024, according to the FTC.

In 2024, according to the FTC, 41% of seniors who reported losing more than $10,000 in business or government fraud scams indicated that the scammers were the first to contact them by phone. About 15% indicated that the scam started with online ads or pop-ups, while 13% said the scam started with email.

Some people have urged their savings to be transferred to Apple Cash

Undoubtedly, younger consumers are also becoming victims.

The 18-year-old Michigan consumer lost $4,800 to “transfer to protect the fraud” this summer after receiving an email from someone impersonating a bank.

According to a report issued to the Troy Police Station on July 16, the first email included a supposed fraud warning in his checking account at Flagster Bank.

Consumers soon began receiving calls from people who claimed to be Flagster employees who claimed their customers’ accounts had been hacked.

People impersonating the bank told the young people he needed to verify his Social Security number. And eventually he was told he would have to transfer $4,800 on the spot from his checking account to an Apple cash account.

Police report said the victim transferred the money, but then hung up, suspecting the phone.

Police reports say when he checked his account, he realized that the money had been transferred to two vendors in Pakistani.

Generally, scammers put you in the upper hand by warning you of a fake but urgent issue. Their goal is to ultimately convince you to hand over your money to “keep your money safe.”

“The truth is, the money is sent to scammers,” according to the FTC.

The FTC noted that 33% of seniors who reported losing more than $10,000 to business or government fraud scams in 2024 showed they sent money via cryptocurrency. About 20% used bank transfers and 16% were told to hand over cash.

And yes, Crooks can handle this money transfer in a variety of ways, including suggesting that you put your money in your Apple cash account.

Apple Cash says online: “If you try to send money to someone outside your contact via Apple Cash, or if the transaction is deemed dangerous, you will be presented with a warning. To use Apple Cash safely, pay attention to the warning.”

Another red flag of fraud, according to Apple Cash, “companies and government agencies do not require payments via Apple Cash.”

Some have urged Bitcoin ATMs to transfer cash to protect them

In April I wrote about a woman who lost $17,500 after someone pretending to be a credit union had to transfer her cash to a “security” account and protect her savings from those trying to transfer her cash to her www.poker.com account.

Conclusion: Never give someone’s story that money has to be moved to protect it.

According to Nessel spokesman Danny Wimmer, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office heard from a victim of fraud urged by someone who was misled with the power to transfer money from various false threats.

He said he claims that in many cases, an arrest warrant was issued for the person, causing some kind of panic.

Usually, telephone consumers are transferred to yet another fraudster who is impersonating government officials to agencies such as the Federal Trade Commission, the Office of Inspectors, or former U.S. S-Service, Wimmer said.

“These callers claim that once the investigation is officially opened, the assets of call recipients will be frozen, but they can quickly deposit funds into a cryptocurrency kiosk and issue a “certified check” from the government that is equal to the total funds.”

Certainly that sounds complicated, but that’s how scammers catch you off guard.

The scammer then directs consumers to certain cryptocurrency kiosks in their neighborhood, Wimmer said. Scammers tend to stay on the phone with the victim during the deposit process.

Money sent to the scammer via a crypto ATM is almost impossible to recover. Nessel warned in April that Bitcoin ATMs lacked surveillance and regulation, resulting in “an attractive option for criminals engaged in fraud and money laundering.”

Common fake stories and how to avoid fraud

To avoid such scams, beware of some of the typical stories that con artists tell you.

Someone is using your account: According to the FTC, the scammers claim they come from your bank or famous companies like Amazon, and they start saying they have flagged suspicious activities on your account.

Your ID is used in criminal acts: According to the FTC, fraudsters often pretend to warn you that your Social Security number or other information is being used to commit crimes such as drug smuggling and money laundering.

Your computer has been hacked: On-screen security alerts can pop up on computers that look like they are from Microsoft or Apple. And there’s a number to call. According to the FTC, “When you make a call, they say your online account has been hacked.”

The FTC has warned that ironically, some scammers pretend to be with the FTC, transfer money from their accounts, deposit cash in Bitcoin ATMs, and even tell people to hand over cash and gold stacks to courier services.

The fate of Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s deportation has returned to court

  • Abrego Garcia’s detention is the latest chapter in a case that began when he was greeted near a Maryland home in March.
  • Abrego Garcia’s lawyers filed a lawsuit seeking that their clients do not be shipped from the country, perhaps to Uganda.

Maryland resident Kilmer Abrego Garcia and his prosecutor’s lawyers are seeking to expel him from the country.

District Judge Paula Sinis ruled on Monday that Abrego Garcia cannot be expelled for a second time until the government holds a hearing on a lawsuit challenging his deportation. Sinis emphasized that the government’s exclusion of Abrego Garcia from the United States is “absolutely prohibited at this point.”

It was a whirlwind for Abrego Garcia for a few days. Abrego Garcia spent more than five months in detention, including his time in the infamous prison in his hometown of El Salvador. On Friday he was released from criminal custody in Tennessee and returned to his home outside of Washington in Bertlesville, Maryland.

On Monday, he was remanded in custody after reporting to the Baltimore Immigration Customs Enforcement Field Office. Ice officials insisted that Abrego Garcia be checked in for an interview, but then he was taken into custody within a minute of his arrival, said his lawyer, Simon Sandoval Moshenberg.

Hours later, Abrego Garcia’s attorney filed a federal lawsuit seeking that the client would not be shipped to Uganda without a hearing. The suit had a case placed in front of Xinis.

Government lawyer Drew Ensign said deportation was not imminent. But the Trump administration remained determined in its quest to do so.

“President Trump is no longer going to allow this illegal foreigner, a member of the MS-13 gang, a trafficker, serial domestic abuser and child predator, to terrify American citizens,” Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem said in a social media post.

Abrego Garcia repeatedly denied these claims.

Abrego Garcia’s detention is the latest chapter in an incident that began when it stopped near his Maryland home in March, and was unfairly foamed into the mega prison in Salvadra. He was returned to the US in June, but was in custody until last week. The incident fostered anger over the Trump administration’s hardline deportation policy.

Sandoval-Moshenberg said his client is being held at a Virginia detention facility. During the hearing, Sinis suggested that if Abrego Garcia is deported, federal law may require him to be sent to a country of his choice.

But Abrego Garcia’s lawyers say US officials have offered to expel him to Costa Rica if they pleaded guilty to transporting immigrants who live illegally to the United States. When he refused to enter the guilty plea, the US government warned that he could be deported to Uganda.

Abrego Garcia’s lawyers say they took part in a debate plea with the government to avoid deportation to Uganda.

“They keep Costa Rica as a carrot and Uganda as a stick,” Sandoval Morshenberg said. “They are weaponizing the immigration system in a completely unconstitutional way.”

Before checking in at ICE, Abrego Garcia was given refugee status from Costa Rica and was guaranteed not to be deported to El Salvador, and then in writing that Costa Rica would send him to send him to send him to send him to send him to send him.

“It’s not just for him to be taken to Costa Rica,” Sandoval Morshenberg said, “It’s an acceptablely bad option.”

Last week, Uganda became at least the fourth African nation, reaching an agreement to accept an unspecified number of deported migrants that do not include criminal history or unaccompanied minors.

Spike Lee documentation for Colin Kaepernick is more needed than ever

0

play

  • Originally planned for Spike Lee and ESPN, Colin Kaepernick’s documentary was shelved for creative differences.
  • Finding a platform for distributing documentaries may be challenging because of the NFL and political sensibility.
  • Kaepernick’s docusaries are necessary because he is such a historical figure.

Someone do the right thing and give me a documentary about Colin Capernick.

No, that’s not a knock from epic filmmaker Spike Lee. His creative edge was intended to give justice to the man’s story behind the most consequential protests by this generation of athletes.

Or was it that way? The project, which was close to completion, was then shelved. Apparently, ESPN (prominent NFL partners and everything) isn’t right on Lee or Kaepernick at the intersection.

It’s a shame. When the news broke in mid-August, a year after the fact that docusaries were turned off, ESPN issued a statement citing “specific creative differences.” However, Lee was prevented from discussing many details due to the private agreement and told Business Insider there were no plans to air the project on another platform.

This brings us to the point. This is a great opportunity for someone to pick up the ball.

Regardless of the factors that sealed the fate of the documentary with ESPN, it is fair to wonder if there is a possibility of retaliation from the Trump administration, the relationship between the network and the NFL has recently acquired a 10% stake in the network.

Ultimately, 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of Kaepernick’s national anthem. This turned attention to police brutality against people of color, but took away the costs of the talented quarterback of his NFL career.

Firstly, his NFL career was crushed as he took a brave position. Now, I think the documentary’s backtrack has the power to restrain the story that flows from his dramatic marks on history.

Kaepernick’s voice, essential to documentaries, still needs to be heard.

Hello, Ryan Coogler and Ezra Edelman. These are two Academy Award-winning filmmakers, and they immediately come to mind for a short wish list. They will definitely knock on Kaepernick’s documentary from the park. Before Coogler exploded with “Black Panther” several years ago, he created a fascinating documentary about the 1989 Bay Area World Series, which was stopped by the Loma Prieta earthquake. And he is the executive producer of “Katrina: Race Armor Time.” This is a five-part, five-part National Geographic documentary that recently began streaming as the 20th anniversary of the devastating hurricane that defeated New Orleans. Edelman produced and directed the eight-part docusary, OJ: Made in America.

And Edelman knows something about major projects being discarded. His docusaries about Prince, which airs on Netflix, are never blocked by the fortunes of legendary musicians.

Kaepernick signed with Disney in 2020 for docusary rights and handpicked Lee as his director. But what now? You may never know the extent of their creative conflict. Kaepernick may have reportedly had his story (his story, the way the docusaries were presented in the original announcement), but Lee’s vision to convey a larger theme of police brutality has been overshadowed. Perhaps that was an important factor. Maybe they’ve resolved the difference to the point of moving forward. Probably not. Undisclosed, you know. Either way, “specific creative differences” also seem to have something to do with ESPN, and ultimately pulled out the plug in the document.

The climate has certainly changed. This ironically showed the issue Kaepernick had protested since Corporate America (and some media entities) accepted the “racial calculations” that occurred after George Floyd was killed on Minneapolis Street at the hands of police. At the time, the climate was even “calculation” about telling stories about black experiences in the media.

Not so many, but in a climate where some (if not many) try to avoid attention from the Trump administration, they launched attacks on DEIs, media entities, political opponents, and some. I don’t think ESPN wants that smoke.

Certainly, the decision regarding Kaepernick Docuseries is said to have been made about a year ago. This would have been before the presidential election. But when ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro was asked in a live interview with CNBC last week if the decision to scrap the documentary was a consequence of not wanting to anger the Trump administration.

“No, it’s definitely not,” Pitaro began his reaction.

He then went straight to what appears to be a mandatory talk point, adding that he “made that decision months before the NFL’s announcement.”

Hmm. The issue was not about the NFL, but about the Trump administration.

Again, ESPN flows with the NFL are also very sensitive in this area. The NFL has asserted that it has no role in discarding documentaries (and no, the NFL hadn’t jumped to a table that demanded ESPN move forward with the documents). And at the Town Hall meeting on August 13, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell assured ESPN staff via Zoom that the league, despite its 10% stake, will not be involved in journalistic independence, which extends to perhaps countless content. Goodell had similar emphasis on talking to CBS staff in New York the day before.

Still, when it comes to (potential) Kaepernick documentaries, they’re always in the air. Even if another super trustworthy producer starts from scratch and creates an amazing docusary… which platforms will be distributed?

Kaepernick’s story cannot be told without Trump. Additionally, the NFL will be cast as a major villain. Kaepernick was unable to land another NFL job – suing the NFL for conspiracy despite his resume and the enduring needs of a league quarterback. The league calmed down and said something about the merits of his case.

Think about all the media partners who are doing business with the NFL. In addition to ESPN and ABC, there are NBC (and Peacock), Fox, CBS, Amazon, Netflix and YouTube. And perhaps at some point, AppletV. Given the politics of big corporations, I would be shocked if either these partners, or potential partners, would accept Kaepernick’s documentary about the present.

Certainly there are some non-NFL connected entities. Think PBS or Vice. The key is that the challenge for Kaepernick’s documentary to get maximum exposure goes beyond content creativity.

Again, the drama attached to the documentary adds another layer to the saga.

A documentary that somehow needs to be done by someone in some way.

New GLP-1 pills for weight loss can be close to reality as drug maker Eli Lily says they will submit for regulatory approval

0

The latest results from the Pill Form trial provide the popular GLP-1 drug, providing enough information to request global regulatory approval this year, the company said Tuesday.

Lily is one of several companies chasing effective pill forms of GLP-1 receptor agonists, making the hilarious and trivial to treat diabetes, Zepbound injectable drugs to treat obesity. In May, the US Food and Drug Administration accepted the marketing application for Wegovy’s oral version of weight loss drugs, Novo Nordisk, with a decision expected towards the end of the year.

Rybelsus, the only semaglutide pill currently available, treats type 2 diabetes and comes with dietary restrictions that are not required with Lily’s pill. To do your best, Liberus should be taken first thing in the morning to a normal stomach of less than 4 ounces. The patient must then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other medications.

GLP-1 is extremely popular with millions of people using weight loss and diabetes, but injections can have some drawbacks compared to tablets. They have to be refrigerated, and are more difficult and expensive to make – and many people don’t like needles.

The results of late trials released by Lily on Tuesday showed that Orforglipron, the GLP-1 pill, is safe and effective in helping people with overweight, obesity and type 2 diabetes. This information has been shared in news releases and has not been peer-reviewed or published in medical journals.

On average, study participants After using Orforglipron once a day I lost an average of 22.9 pounds (10.5% of body weight) on the best medication (36 milligrams) (10.5% of body weight) for 72 weeks.

The tablet also lowered A1C, an average amount of glucose in the blood over the past three months, by an average of 1.8%, Lily said.

Glucose, or blood sugar, is the body’s main source of energy. People with diabetes are unable to produce enough insulin, a hormone that helps keep their blood sugar levels within a certain range. People with type 2 diabetes may have cells that are resistant to the effects of insulin.

GLP-1 drugs help to control blood sugar by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin, suppressing the release of another hormone, reducing feelings of hunger and helping people to fill longer.

Lily previously published trial results showing that tablet forms of GLP-1 drugs are safe and effective for overweight and obese people. Another presentation focused on the outcomes of people who only experienced type 2 diabetes. According to a announcement Tuesday, the company has the “complete clinical data package needed to begin Orforglipron’s global regulatory submission.”

In the latest trials, the side effects of tablets were similar to those reported in injectable form of GLP-1 drugs. The company said adverse events were generally considered mild to moderate, with stomach upset being the most commonly reported.

Lily’s chief science officer, Dr. Dan Skoblonski, said in April that his company had started mass-produced orgripron pills after previous promising results.

“If you do that, you’ll have enough supply to meet the demand,” he said.

Lily plans to publish the results of her late-stage trials in a peer-reviewed journal. We’re also testing to see if the pill helps treat high blood pressure and sleep apnea.

Some experts see the location of tablet versions of these drugs as an alternative to the kind of maintenance that people can switch to after reaching their target weight or blood sugar levels, using a weekly injectable version.

Trump gave birth to Governor Lisa Cook. What that means.

On August 25th, President Donald Trump fired Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook. This is an unprecedented move that brings the president one step closer to shaping the balance of the Fed’s seven-member board in his favor.

In a true, socially shared letter, Trump argued for “sufficient causes” to remove Cook immediately, pointing to accusations that Cook made false statements about his mortgage agreement.

The move comes amid Trump’s months of efforts to influence central banks’ interest rate cut decisions. Trump previously focused on putting pressure on Fed Chairman Jerome Powell to lower the rate through name calls and threats of fire, but the president then returned the threat to remove the Fed’s chair.

What should you know about this:

U.S. stock futures are low after President Donald Trump fired Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook and said he filed fraudulent mortgage applications.

“I have determined that there is a good reason to remove you from your position,” Trump wrote in a letter to the food posted on social media.

Cook replied that Trump had no authority to fire her and said he would not resign.

At 6:15am on ET, futures tied to the Blue Chip Dow fell -0.14%, while the Broad S&P 500 futures slipped -0.08%, while the Tech-heavy Nasdaq futures lost -0.06%.

“Merry

Cook’s firing escalates Trump’s efforts to turn the Fed’s make-up into his preferences.

Another Biden appointee, Gov. Adriana Kugler, announced her early resignation in August. Trump nominated Stephen Milan, chairing the White House Economic Advisors Council, serving the remainder of Coogler’s term, which has not yet been confirmed by the Senate.

The board will be home to two Trump-appointed board members, Michelle Bowman and Christopher Waller. Both have expressed support for low prices.

Powell, who was appointed chairman by Trump in 2017 and re-appointed under former President Joe Biden in 2022, is due to end his term as chairman in May 2028, but was able to serve as governor until 2028.

If Milan replaces Kugler and Cook is kicked out of her seat, Trump’s candidates will have a majority on the seven-person board.

Board members, along with five presidents of the Regional Federal Reserve Bank, constitute the Federal Open Market Committee, which determines the Fed’s key interest rates.

Powell had already shown that the Fed could move towards interest rate cuts soon.

The Fed adjusts interest rates to support the dual mission of stabilizing prices and keeping employment high. If inflation is high, the Fed can raise interest rates and make borrowing more expensive and cooler economic activity. If unemployment is high, reductions can drive economic growth and employment.

The Fed has been stable since late 2024 amid concerns that tariffs could raise consumer prices, but that could change soon. The Fed has yet to commit to interest rate cuts, but on August 22, Powell said “the balance of risk appears to be changing.”

The central bank was established as an independent institution, so its decision is based on what is best suited to the economy. The Fed’s self-government can be hit if it falls at the president’s demands without a healthy foundation.

“The concern is the Trump administration’s intention. It’s not about maintaining the integrity of the Fed, but about setting up Trump’s own people in the Fed,” said Kyle Rodda, senior financial market analyst at Capital.com, as reported by Reuters. “It goes back to trust in the institutions…it’s another crack in the US buildings and their investments.

Analysts say this could erode the value of the US dollar. This has already weakened this year.

“The dollar continues to decline as American governance continues to erode,” said Skanda Amarnath, executive director of think tank Empericate America and former Fed economist. “That means all products are priced higher.”

Cook previously said, “I’m not going to be bullied to resign.” After Trump asked her to resign on August 20th, Cook said he was gathering information to answer “providing valid questions and facts.”

Cook responded hours later by email to reporters through lawyer Abbe Lowell’s office, with a statement saying Trump had no authority to rule out her, Reuters reported.

“I will continue to do my duties to support the American economy,” Cook said in a statement.

Lowell said Trump’s “request lacks the appropriate process, basis, or legal authority. We will take the necessary actions to prevent legal action in this attempt.”

“Ted Lasso” actor Keely Hazel says, “Everyone saw my boobs.”

0

New York – The cafe is hidden on Mercer Street. This is an intimate escape as it buzzes SoHo Street and storefronts, which display gorgeous fashion. The bar is packed with wine and coffee, books lined up on the walls, and the air is filled with fresh paperback scents. It’s the perfect environment to meet Keely Hazel. Its debut book, “Everyone Sees My Boobs: Stories and Reflections from Impossible Feminists,” was released on August 26th.

Hazell’s honest memoir, a model from previous Page 3, leaks more than celebrity gossip and how he landed topless in “The Sun” at just 18 years old. Hazell, now 38, showed readers that the tabloids of the 2000s did nothing, boldly confronting her emotional confusion, prompting parental trauma, class struggles and sexuality from the humiliation of revenge porn, as only possible with years of distance (and “many treatments”).

The provocative book titles were born in the late 20s, and exaggeration “encapsulates the feeling of being a teenager,” says Hazel. Her publisher has expressed concern about promoting the title on broadcast television, but Hazel says “there were no other titles.”

Rationally, Hazel knew that not everyone in the world saw her topless, but in the early days of her career she felt exposed and scrutinized in her everyday life.

“It’s everyone around you, and that’s what matters when you’re young. When you’re in puberty, you care about what everyone is thinking,” she says.

Her story resembles a debate about whether Sabrina Carpenter responds to “male gazes.” Today, signs with the phrase “Sex work is work” can be found in women’s marching and wrapped T-shirts, and Carpenter’s provocative status is praised for worshiping fans. However, when Hazell’s modeling career began, she says the conversation wasn’t that subtle.

“It’s the assumption that someone like me, who modeled in a sexual way, corresponds to the male gaze,” Hazel says. “Eight years ago… I said, “If you’re part of a man’s gaze and these oppressive systems, you’re not a feminist.” ”

Thus, “impossible feminists” were born.

Keely Hazel says, “My story is a story of social mobility.”

In the first chapter of the book, Hazel tells her that a journalist asks, “Are you a feminist?” Her response: “I’m not.”

She understands that men and women are treated differently, and her girlfriend will talk about “it looks like men are making it easier.” But the words themselves? “Feminist” was not even in the vocabulary.

Hazel grew up in a poor, working class family in Grove Park, southeast London. Her mother was a dinner lady and her father was a window fitter. The couple separated when they were 13 years old. Hazel “washed out for chicken and chip money,” and in her memoirs, it is the first time she remembers that she used her sexuality for financial gain. At age 13, she and her friends urge the taxi driver to masturbate in front of them, stealing their wallets and running away. Resisting to the encounter, she never did it again.

But Hazel says that the scene is essential to the book’s central story, essentially about class and social mobility, not feminism.

“In the UK, the class system is structured completely differently than the US. There is no dream for America,” she says from Soho Cafe.

For people from working class backgrounds, options were limited. Hazel struggled to find a job at a retail store, and it took her mother four years to secure a job at a supermarket. Modeling has become a means of advancement.

“I don’t think my modeling is a feminist act at all. It’s an act of social mobility and I think I’m trying to make myself financially better in order to move my life forward,” she explains.

In 2024, a report from Sutton Trust found that only 7% of UK-educated people attend private schools, while 35% of BAFTA-nominated actors have private education. In 2019, Sutton Trust reported that top jobs in UK politics, judicial, media and business are five times more likely to be in private schools than in general population.

Before becoming a three-page model, Hazell knew the stereotypes that come with lifestyle. The glamour model was designated as “silly” or “starved for fame.” However, when she formed friendships with fellow models, her perception of the industry changed dramatically.

“You understand how much of this is bred from coming from a low socioeconomic background. This is one way to make money,” she tells USA Today.

Keely Hazel didn’t want to talk about revenge porn, but did anyway

In 2007, Hazel was a victim of revenge porn after her ex-boyfriend, known as “Theo,” released a sex tape.

Hazell worked to revisit this. She realized that by talking about it, people would remind them that the tapes existed. For years she remained silent. Even having a private conversation about the experience makes her “explode in tears.” She speculated that people felt that the incident was her fault and promoted it to advance her career.

“Why am I talking about it with anyone when I don’t understand the violation that happened?” she says.

But “to elicit all kinds of change, we have to stand up to these things,” she adds.

Keely’s openness about her trauma is part of a larger move that destines the victim and demands accountability for image-based sexual abuse, which can sometimes be called “digital rape” and “body violations.” Anyone can be victimized, but 90% of victims of image-based sexual abuse are women.

While studying revenge porn, she traced it in the 1800s. Men were drawing crude pictures of women on postcards to destroy their reputation.

“As time goes on, men aren’t getting better. The law comes in and they find a way around it. Back in my time, you’ve shared videos and photos. Now it’s a crime,” she says. However, AI has created a new loophole: Deepfakes is being addressed in the US but is distributed on social media platforms like X.

“It’s like the ongoing evolution of men who can shame and restrain women and find ways to ruin their lives.

Following the release of the tape, she went through a complete shutdown of sexuality.

“I hadn’t had sex with anyone for over a year and a half,” she says. She ended her glamour modeling career by deciding to make decisions based on mental health rather than financial gain.

“If you wanted to jump out the window, there was no point in doing this and having this money,” she says. “I had to regain my sexuality so I could understand it. It was a recall and healing process.”

“Ted Lasso” character Keely and media misrepresentation

When Hazel is approached by Jason Sudeikis, a co-worker of “Ted Lasso,” who is only referred to as “J,” in the book, she says she wants to dispel the stereotypes that have plagued her career.

“He recalls, ‘I’ll meet you. You’re two very separate things about your real life and how you are presented in the media,” she recalls.

But Keely Jones, the character of the show, a model-turned-PR consultant who turned AFC Richmond, is like “my SNL version.”

Originally, Hazel was intended to be cast as the fictional “Keeley,” but the role went to Juno Temple. Junho Temple says it comes from a “very privileged background” that contrasts her living experiences.

“It was difficult for me,” she admits. “When it’s essential to me and I have my name, I don’t want to use it in any way unless it’s real.

“What I’m doing a bit of a cheating is that it becomes an expression of these things, but it’s not really a change,” she continues. “You’re selling this idea and this notion that there’s no evidence of real life.”

In the book, she writes about this tension:

However, she realized she had no control over the show’s story, and it was happening “with or without her.” Acting as “Bex” in “Ted Lasso” contributed to her “complex relationship with the show”, but allowed her to exist when the character “Keeley” comes to life.

Keely Hazel’s fan base is “very male”, but this book is “for everyone.”

Hazell wrote this memoir to understand her past, but those who read “everyone saw my boobs” hope to “learn something or be entertained.”

“My fanbase has always been very male,” she says. “And when I talk about vengeance porn, these things go from men to women.”

She wonders whether her book will affect male readers: “If men can understand better, will that change things?”

Before beginning her acting career, it was suggested that she would change her name from three pages to distance. But Hazel doesn’t want to hide from the assumptions people have about her.

As her book ends, she writes about the power to know herself. By regaining your voice when others take it from you.

“I’ve now reached the point where I accept it just by owning it, and I don’t want to change it,” she says as she closes our conversation. “I regret a lot, but now I’m more conscious of the barriers of systemic class. I’ve accepted regret as part of my life, but I understand my choices more.”

Top AI Vibe Coding Platform that Drives Web3 Builds

0

Vibe coding makes a lot of noise in software development, but perhaps there is nowhere where its presence doesn’t feel as sharp as it is in the Web3 coding space.

Of course, not all AI code generators are truncated for Web3 development. This is because it is a niche area that requires deep expertise in blockchain languages and smart contract frameworks. Therefore, the most popular vibe coding platforms such as Cursor, Devin, and Github copilots are fine when it comes to automating the creation of smart contracts. But fortunately, there are many Web3-specific coding tools that promise to turbocharge blockchain automation.

The beauty of Web3 vibe coding tools is that they can abstract much of the complexity of blockchain and smart contracts. It opens the door for many developers to take part in building distributed applications.

Top Web3 Vibe Coding Platform

1: Dreamspace

Currently available in beta, the Dreamspace platform is a collaboration between Space, Time and Makeinfinite Labs, aimed at transforming smart contract development through a combination of text-based prompts and zero-aware proofs.

Using Dreamspace, Web3 developers can essentially create smart contracts by simply explaining how to convert natural language prompts to Solidity Code and how they work. Space and time play a key role through the SPL’s proof consensus mechanism to enable all off-chain data calls to be encrypted using ZK proofs, ensuring that all queries are accurate.

Developers can reduce their development cycles from sprints to coffee breaks using GPT-style developer Copilots, which can generate Bytecode and Provable Data Pipelines using Dreamspace.

2: TryWeb AI

Using a third WEB AI, developers can build powerful AI agents that can interact with EVM-compatible blockchains. Through chat style wizards, developers can create audited ERC-20, ERC-721, and ERC-4337 smart contracts in seconds and deploy them instantly, paving the way for highly automated distributed applications.

For example, AI agents manage their users’ blockchain wallets, execute transactions on their behalf, analyze on-chain data, and so on. Examples include AI-powered cryptocurrency trading agents, Blockchain Explorer, and characters that are intelligent and unplayable in blockchain-based games.

Secret Source is the T1, a powerful inference model for the third web, trained on thousands of smart contracts and blockchain transactions in dozens of EVM chains and layer 2 networks, allowing for unparalleled accuracy when responding to blockchain queries. Eliminate up to 90% of grant work involved in blockchain, NFT, and GameFi development.

3: Carthage

Sitting in the interaction of AI and blockchain, Chaingpt provides tools for both regular Web3 users and developers. It focuses on AI chatbots that provide real-time analysis and insights into the cryptocurrency market, with intelligent coding capabilities for smart contract development.

ChatGPT’s coding tools make it easy to create customized smart contracts without any real coding expertise. The auditing tool you can use to check for vulnerabilities in the generated code is complete, rewrite it to fix any bugs you find, and test it again to make sure it’s fine.

The integrated gas cost assessment tool, which estimates the potential gas charges for each transaction, has a small bonus that you know how much it costs each time users deposit or swap the fund using smart contracts. This is a powerful tool to convert late-night “shipping it” code into bulletless ones that can withstand the heaviest scrutiny audits.

4: Autonomy

Autonomyai is a front-end AI coding tool optimized for scale. The suite of autonomous AI agents operates at the organizational level by mapping, modeling and accelerating front-end workflows. Its agent context engine, ACE, allows agents to integrate into the corporate codebase, fully understand the developmental complexity, design style and coding nuances inherent to all businesses, producing results that drive real business impact.

Thanks to this deep level of understanding, Autonomyai’s agents can work in almost any coding language, including Ethereum’s Solidity Smart Contract language. The user simply enters a Figma-style prompt, and the agent outputs a full stack DAPP template with a smooth user interface and ready-made testing. The company claims an industry-leading code acceptance rate of 95%, making it easy for non-combined effects teams to jump directly into Web3 coding without blockchain expertise.

5. buildbearai playground

BuildBear allows developers to quickly spin up customized private testnet forks for EVM-based blockchains, allowing them to test and debug DAPP and smart contracts in separate sandbox environments prior to mainnet deployment.

Dapps are combat-tested on the closest to the actual conditions, allowing you to debug issues and vulnerabilities that arise without disrupting your development workflow. Its isolated sandbox environment comes with comprehensive services such as account abstractions and price feeds

The key feature here is BuildBear’s Solidity Scanning tool that begins with reading the plaintext DAPP specification before spinning up the target chain’s private fork with Faucet’s funding wallet and mock token. Pair it with one of the above coding tools to verify robustness code generated by AI in disposable playgrounds and create detailed audit reports in seconds.

Why is the list important?

The rapidly growing platform provides a window into the future of Web3 development. There, the natural language pipeline becomes the norm, converting the development cycle from a marathon that has exhausted its development cycle into a 100-meter sprint. Speed types are important in a world where market windows are no longer measured in days rather than in quarter.

The auditing features introduced by Dreamspace and Chaingpt also highlight the urgent need for verification. By sending out the generated code to AI with encrypted proof and formal verification, they set a new standard for the reliability of vibe coding tools. Meanwhile, Autonomyai and ThirdWeb AI will dramatically disrupt the learning curve of Web3 programming, helping millions of Web2 developers begin experimenting with blockchain and decentralized applications, alleviating a dramatic shortage of much-needed programming talent.

Together, these Vibe coding platforms set a global stage where Web3 developers can spin up smart contracts in seconds with built-in verification to ensure the reliability of automated, vulnerability-free, distributed applications.

Blue feels that the accused maintains most CDC grants and the red state will bear the brunt of Trump’s clawback

0

According to an analysis by KFF Health News, reductions to centres for disease control and prevention funding in state and local health sectors had a very uneven impact in response to national political trends. Democracy-led states and selected blue cities fought in court, and GOP-led states suffered major losses as public health efforts were restored.

In late March, the Ministry of Health and Human Services cancelled nearly 700 centres to help with disease control and prevention subsidies across the country. Awarded during the Covid-19 pandemic, they supported efforts to vaccinate people, reduce health disparities among demographic groups, upgrade obsolete systems to detect outbreaks of infectious diseases, and hire community health workers.

Initially, Grant cancelled the blue and red states were almost evenly. Four of the five jurisdictions with the largest number of termination grants were led by Democrats in California, the District of Columbia, Illinois and Massachusetts.

But the balance was reversed after about 20 blue state attorney generals and governors sued in federal court and won an injunction. Of the five states with the highest number of cancelled grants, four are led by Republicans from Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio.

In Blue State, nearly 80% of CDC grant cuts have recovered, compared to less than 5% in the red state, according to an analysis by KFF Health News. The amounts of grants reported in the HHS database known as tracking accountability in the government grant system or TAGG often do not match those confirmed by the state. Instead, this analysis focused on the number of grants.

This disparity is an example of polarization permeating healthcare issues, with access to safety net health programs, abortion rights, and the ability of public health officials to respond to disease threats vary widely depending on the party in power.

HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon said in an emailed statement that the agency “is committed to protecting the health of all Americans, regardless of politics or geography. These funds have been working with the state for a long time to strengthen public health infrastructure and ensure that communities respond safely and the tools they need to respond safely.”

The money in question was not spent solely on COVID-related activities, public health experts say. It also helped to strengthen public health infrastructure and include many types of viruses and diseases, including influenza, measles, RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus.

“It really supported infrastructure on its own, especially in terms of how the nation responds to public health threats,” said Susan Kansagra, chief medical officer of the Association of State and Territorial Health Bureaus.

Trump is the best reported outside the pandemic since 2004, as the US recorded the largest measles and pediatric deaths in more than 30 years during the recent flu season.

After the funding cuts were cut off in court, California retained all the grants the Trump administration had tried to claw, but Texas remains the state with the most grants that ended at least 30.

Colorado, who took part in the lawsuit, was initially fired 11 grants, but then 10 were retained. Meanwhile, adjacent states that did not sue — Wyoming, Utah, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma — lost 55 grants in bulk, but were not retained.

In Jackson, Ohio, one day in March, half a dozen community health workers cancelled the grant five months earlier, and the Jackson County Health Department cut $500,000, and they lost their jobs.

“I had to fire three employees in a day. I didn’t have to do that before. There’s no one outreached in Jackson County anymore,” said Health Commissioner Kevin Aston.

At one point, the funds supported 11 Appalachian Ohio Counties, he said. Now it supports it.

One reassigned employee, Marsha Radhabo, has reduced the community’s health initiatives. She helped provide hot meals to homeless people, and found that many clients were illiterate, so she brought forms for services such as Medicaid and Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Programs, filling in supplementary nutrition assistance programs at local parks.

“We’ll find a place for them to rehabilitate. We’ll take out hygiene kits, blankets, tents, zero-degree sleeping bags and more,” she said. As a counselor, she also reminded people, “They are looking after, that they deserve to be human – because in many cases they are not treated that way.”

Sasha Johnson, who leads the Community Health Worker Program, said people like Radhabo are “basically Walking Human 411” and provide assistance to people in need.

Radabaugh has also partnered with the Food Bank to deliver meals to homemade residents.

Ashton said the sudden way they lost their funds — meaning the county had to pay unemployment for more people unexpectedly — could have ruined the health district financially. Canceling the mid-cycle funds, he said, “It was really scary.”

Longtime anti-vaccine activist and vaccine misinformation promoter, HHS secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. calls the CDC “a cespool of corruption.” At HHS, he took steps to undermine vaccinations in the US and abroad.

Federal CDC funding accounts for more than half of the state and local health sector budgets, according to KFF, a health information nonprofit organization that includes KFF Health News. According to KFF, President Donald Trump said in the 2024 election, the $15 billion CDC share allocated for fiscal year 2023 won the majority of the $15 billion CDC allocated for 2023.

This is reflected by the Trump administration’s nationwide CDC grant termination. More than half of Trump won in 2024, totaling at least 370 terminations before the court case, according to an analysis by KFF Health News.

The Ohio Columbus Health Department received $6.2 million in CDC grants, but about half of that ($3 million) disappeared due to Trump cuts. Columbus Health Commissioner Mysheika Roberts said the city has fired 11 people who worked to investigate the outbreak of infectious diseases at schools and nursing homes.

She also said the city had planned to purchase a new electronic health record system to allow easy access to patients’ hospital records.

“We’ve never gotten a mid-cycle that was pulled out of us for no reason,” Roberts said. “This sense of uncertainty is stressful.”

Columbus did not receive the money directly from the CDC. Rather, the state gave cities the money it received from the federal government. Ohio, led by Republican Gov. Mike DeWine and the Republican Attorney General, did not sue to stop funding cuts.

Columbus sued the federal government in April, along with other Republican-led local governments, along with other democrat-led municipalities based in Harris County, Texas, and Houston. and Davidson County, the metropolitan government in Nashville, Tennessee. Kansas City, Missouri. A federal judge blocked these cuts in June.

By mid-August, Columbus was waiting for funds. Roberts said the city would not rehire staff as federal funds were expected to end in December.

Joe Grogan, a senior scholar at the University of Southern California Schaefer Institute and former director of the White House National Policy Council for Trump’s first term, said the state and local agencies were “not entitled” to federal money awarded “to deal with the emergency.”

“We’ve been throwing money out the door for the past five years,” Grogan said of the federal government. “I don’t understand why there’s a controversy about Covid Money coming back that’s not moving forward.”

Ohio Department of Health spokesman Ken Gordon wrote in an email that the lost $250 million grant helped, among other things, upgrade the disease reporting system and boosted the Public Health Institute’s testing.

Some of the cancelled HHS funds were not scheduled to end over the years, including four grants to strengthen the country’s public health in India, grants to nonprofits in Minnesota that focus on reducing substance use disorders, and several grants to universities on occupational safety, HIV, tuberculosis and more.

Brent Ewig, Chief Policy and Government Affairs Director for the Association of Vaccination Managers, said the cuts were a predictable outcome of “boom, bust, panic and neglect ‘finances’ for public health.”

The association represents vaccination programs for 64 states, local and territorials, and Ewig said there is not much preparation to respond to the outbreak of diseases, including measles.

“The system is blinking red,” Ewig said.

The analysis of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Grants at KFF Health News attempted to answer four questions. 1) How many grants have been terminated in the US under the Trump administration since March? 2) Which states saw the most grant cut? 3) What was the grant? 4) Did the grant end affect the blue, red and purple conditions differently? This follows a similar analysis by KFF Health News, and discusses an article on termination of Nih Nih Grant.

Our main data source was the Ministry of Health and Human Services website indicating the end of the grant. We compared the initial list of grant terminations from April 3rd to July 11th to determine the number of grants restored. The USaspending.gov database helped us track grants by state.

To categorize the nation politically, we followed the same steps from April’s report on the cancellation of the national health subsidies in April. If Democrats had full control of the state government, or if the majority of voters supported the Democratic presidential candidate in the last three elections (2016, 2020, 2024), the state was “blue.” The “red” states were similarly categorized with regard to Republicans. The “purple” states politically divided the state government and were generally considered a battlefield state for presidential elections. The result was 25 red states, 17 blue states, and eight purple states. The District of Columbia was classified as blue using a similar method.

This analysis does not consider the recovery of potential grants in local jurisdictions that were awarded directly or directly from the CDC. This excludes subsidies terminated from compacts of other foreign companies that only occupy the recipient’s location and receive subsidies directly from the Free Association State and CDC. Following the Trump administration’s order to withdraw global health activities and support for the World Health Organization, at least 40 CDC grants aimed at supporting public health activities in other countries have ended.

Southwest Airlines’ new policy will affect plus-size travelers. This is the way

0

AP
–

Southwest Airlines will soon require travelers who cannot fit in their seat armrests to pay for some of the additional items that are part of the recent series of changes the carrier is making.

The new rules will come into effect on January 27th, with Southwest beginning to allocate seats.

Now, plus-size passengers can either pay extra seats in advance with the option to reclaim that money later, or request a free additional seat at the airport. The carrier’s new policy still allows refunds, but they are no longer guaranteed.

In a statement Monday, Southwest said it is updating some of its policies as it prepares seats allocated next year.

“To ensure space we are communicating with customers who previously used an additional seating policy to purchase at booking,” the statement said.

It was known for having passengers choose their own seat after boarding the plane and then letting passengers choose their own seat by flying the bags that were finished in May for free. These perks were key to distinguishing budget careers from rivals.

Southwest says that if the flight is not fully booked at the time of departure, and if both passenger tickets are purchased in the same booking class, they will refund the second ticket under the new policy of additional seating. Passengers must also request a refund within 90 days of the flight.

If passengers who require additional seats do not purchase in advance, they will need to purchase one at the airport, according to the new policy. If the flight is full, passengers will be rebooked for a new flight.

Jason Vaughn, an Orlando-based travel agency that posts theme park reviews and travel tips for plus-sized people on social media and his website, said the change is likely to affect travelers of all sizes. Southwest’s current policy helps create a more comfortable flight experience for plus-size travelers, while also ensuring that all passengers have plenty of space in their seats.

“I think that would make the flight experience worse for anyone,” he said of the new rules.

Vaughn described the change as yet another disappointment for Southwest Loyalists like himself, likening it to a recent change in the Cracker Barrel’s logo that has angered some of the restaurant’s fans.

“They don’t know who their customers are anymore,” he said of the airline. “They don’t have any identities left.”

Airlines have been struggling lately and are under pressure from activist investors to increase profits and revenue. He also said last year it would charge customers extra for more legrooms and offer Redeye flights.

Trump wants to end cashless bail. How will this affect you?

Requiring cash bail is a public safety issue, says the White House. Research from where the system has been reformed in the most fundamental way possible tells a different story.

play

A new executive order from the White House aimed to stop bail reforms has given Illinois (the first state to completely eliminate cash bonds) a spotlight on national debate over bail and crime.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on August 25 that would cancel federal funds over jurisdiction that would allow suspects to be released without posting bonds. Trump says mandating cash bail will help make the country safer by preventing suspects from being allowed to walk freely before trial and commit another crime.

However, Illinois research data shows that fears of widespread crime after bail reform have not been burned, experts say. Crime rates in Prairie are actually declining, some experts say.

“There’s always been concerns that bail reform will cause skies, but it definitely didn’t happen in Illinois,” said University of Chicago researcher Allison Siegler. “All the evidence I’ve seen points to positive results since Illinois eliminated cash bail. It’s not clear from the data that things haven’t gotten worse.”

As the White House changes more jurisdictions for those who should be detained in prison before trial, efforts will come to require cash bail nationwide. New York, New Jersey and Washington, DC have also enacted reforms that limit cash bail.

Illinois has fundamentally reformed its bail system more fundamentally than any other jurisdiction thanks to its pretrial equity law, which eliminated cash bail. Gov. JB Pritzker signed the ACT in 2022 and came into effect the following year.

Eliminating cash bail does not prevent Illinois from putting suspects in jail prior to trial. Currently, prosecutors must request the state of holding serious criminal suspects that are deemed dangerous or risk of flight. The defendant is released from prison while awaiting trial on a promise to appear before the court, rather than paying certain cash.

Why is the White House saying it needs cash bail?

It will require post-bond suspects to be a public safety issue, the president said he signed an executive order on August 25 targeting bail reform. Without it, he said the suspect would return to the streets and commit the crime.

“They kill people, they’re out,” Trump told reporters in the oval office. “We’re done with that.”

Critics of bail reform say that by eliminating it, it reduces the incentives for defendants to go to trial.

A Loyola University study of the impact of the law shows that the proportion of defendants who did not appear in court actually fell slightly from 25% to 23%.

Trump’s national order directs Attorney General Pam Bondy to submit a list of local and state jurisdictions with cashless bail policies and identify federal funds where it may “suspend or terminate.”

“To maintain order and public safety, individuals must be imprisoned with pending criminal charges or criminal history showing clear, continuing risks to society,” the order said.

What does the Illinois study show?

Researchers say the idea that dangerous offenders can walk freely is not actually happening on Illinois ground.

Don Sueton, a Loyola Chicago researcher who co-authored a study on the impact of Illinois bail reform, said it shows that crime rates for people published before trial have not changed.

Stemen also pointed out that more people are being charged with serious crimes in Illinois. Illinois law allows judges to jail people who have been charged with certain serious crimes, including violent crimes.

Stemen said that before bail reform, about 60% of defendants charged with serious crimes were released before trial after posting bonds. Currently, only about 50% of defendants charged with serious crimes have been announced before trial.

Loyola researchers said the biggest concern about Illinois bail reforms relates to what crimes are deemed detentionable.

Some judges and prosecutors are seeking more room in demanding defendants’ detention, Steutemen added that just because the crime is not considered to be unsevere under the Bail Reform Act does not mean that the defendant is not a threat to public safety or flight risk.

A more deliberative process

Experts say one of the most important implications of Illinois bail reform is the creation of a more deliberative system for jailing before trial.

According to Loyola’s investigation, the bond hearing ended in minutes before bail reform. When a judge places the accused in prison, the prosecutor must have a substantive argument about why he should be detained. Research shows that some hearings last for an hour.

“People should not be detained before trial unless they are convicted of a crime and there is a rather substantial debate about why they should be deprived of their freedom,” Stem said. “We as a society benefit that system in that we are just spending it on detention for those who need it. Not all people charged with crimes are a risk to public safety or the risk of flight.”

According to a Loyola investigation, some advocates and prosecutors reported that higher standards of detention hearings were being challenged.

Her son has a rare illness. His treatment is out of reach of $6 million.

Katherine Illingworth, 39, knew something was wrong the moment her son, neurologist, entered the room.

Illingworth requested a referral from his son’s pediatrician based on instinct. It took George a while to start walking, she said. He didn’t look stable as he started. At four years old, George fell frequently and was unable to keep up with a friend of his age.

His diagnosis was an intestinal punch: Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease 4C is a rare genetic neurological disorder associated with early onset spinal symptom osis. As the condition progresses, George may develop other symptoms such as cataracts, hearing loss, bone or joint abnormalities, cognitive problems, and respiratory problems.

The doctor provided a ray of hope and told Illingworth that it is likely that treatment for his son’s rare disease has already been invented. catch? It was stuck in the “Death Study Valley.” Illingworth has discovered that neurologist predictions are true. Her son’s treatment was a number of clinical trials out of reach and a $6 million clinical trial.

The situation in Illingworth is too common. According to the FDA, more than 7,000 rare diseases in the United States have affected more than 30 million people. Half of those patients are children. Most of these conditions do not have treatment. Many of the treatments invented to treat rare diseases do not acquire capital to get to the market, and there is little place for parents to turn around.

Two months after George’s diagnosis, Illingworth took a deep breath, opened the Tiktoc app on his phone, and launched a fundraiser.

One in ten Americans have a rare illness. In most cases, treatment is out of reach of millions of dollars.

For parents of children with rare diseases, advocacy can become a full-time job, with the outcome being either life or death.

Josh Carter, grandson of former President Jimmy Carter, is one of those parents. His youngest son was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease, which had an extremely early onset at the age of seven months.

“Even if I had a diagnosis, it wasn’t too close to getting treatment,” Carter told USA Today. The journey to find the right medicine for his son was “incredibly taxable”, “occasive at times”, “every consumption”.

The patients’ families come in and organize Bake sales and 5K races in an attempt to raise the millions of dollars needed to push new drugs through clinical trials. More parents take the Illingworth approach and raise money by posting on social media. But those efforts are not sufficient.

Cheryl Herbert, vice president of marketing and communications at the National Agency for Rare Disability, has a teenage daughter with a rare disease. The most effective social media campaign for her daughter’s treatment raised about $8,000, she said. This is a reduction in buckets for clinical trials that cost at least $3 million.

What these families really need is the buy-in from corporate America and public-private partnerships, Herbert said.

Illingworth knows that opportunities in her son’s treatment are better than most people because of her resources. Illingworth’s husband works full time and is able to support families, including childcare – she works in advocacy work without pay. Her network of private school colleagues and pure families led to massive donations. “The economic inequality in this is horrifying,” Illingworth said.

“To imagine a mother with a terminally imaginary child, I know that she has a few years left with her child and is treatable. On the weekend, will she sell for $300 against $7 million?” Illingworth said. “It’s very wild bar.”

The path to finding a cure: “It took over our lives.”

Many parents of children with rare diseases don’t even reach the fundraising stage.

A study by the Everlife Foundation of rare diseases shows that to obtain an accurate diagnosis, patients with rare diseases who have an average of 6 years or more years are required to receive an accurate diagnosis, with an estimated 30% of children with rare diseases die before their fifth birthday.

The emotional sacrifices and pressures for these parents are enormous, says Kara Kshinir, a mental health therapist in New Jersey, serving families of children with disabilities.

“It really sets them up to live from a place of parenting, which is not a joy, but a job,” Kusinir said.

When a family member gets diagnosed, there is usually some relief, said Annie Kennedy, chief of policy, advocacy and patient engagement at AlyLife. That’s when the conversation with the doctor is directed towards a solution.

Carter said her son’s doctor took a trial and error approach for two years before discovering that the treatment worked. The drug costs around $300,000 a year, and his family had to fight insurance to cover it, he said. Carter said he felt more pressured than ever to maintain his job because of his health insurance, and his wife worked 24 hours a day to care for his son and defend his care.

“It took over our lives,” Carter said.

But thankfully, his son has been in remission ever since. Through a similar journey, Carter has a foundation that helps guide other families of children with inflammatory bowel disease that developed very early on.

For rare diseases without known treatments, the path to treatment can be much longer. The national organization for rare disorders has over 300 patient organizations, many of which are started by parents, and patients and their families come together to discuss the same rare disease and work towards treatment. It often starts with finding academic researchers who can do natural history research, says Tracey Sikora, vice president of organizational research and clinical programs. From there, researchers need to find models – often mice or cells – to test different treatments that cure the disease or reduce its effectiveness.

Once treatments are found, these tests will eventually be tested in humans. However, the process can take decades and in most cases it requires buy-in from biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies and/or Congress funds. She said that it’s nearly impossible for families who raise their own funds to support multi-stage clinical trials.

“It’s extremely difficult to create a business model surrounding treatments that can only be sold to 12, 50 or even 1,000 people,” Illingworth said.

Care for a rare and ill child often requires specialists, high-cost medications and medical devices, dietary supplements, extra childcare costs, and frequent trips to off hours. Health insurance issues are also common, Kennedy said. Many families set up fundraisers for these daily expenses, in addition to fundraising for drug development.

Crowdfunding via Tiktok is likely not supporting clinical trials, but the videos will help spread awareness and connect rare disease communities, Sikora said.

Still, trying to fund clinical trials in silos is not the answer, Herbert said.

“We’re not fighting each other,” Kennedy said. “We are all one community.”

Illingworth hopes to raise more than $180,000 this summer, and another $200,000 by Labor Day. She then said it would take six months to raise another $500,000. Multiphase clinical trials are even more expensive.

“At that rate, $6 million is a really long time,” she said.

If everything goes according to the plan, Illingworth said he would receive gene therapy when George was eight years old.

But even so, her work is not done. She has met too many families in Tiktok and struggles with her. Illingworth said her heart is now defending.

“There’s no universe where I can raise money for my kids and turn around and wish you good luck,” Illingworth said in tears in a recent social media post.

“I think our group has strength.”

The idea of the Palestinian state may die

0

Jabal Al Baba, West Bank
–

At the top of a Palestinian village overlooking Jerusalem, Atala Mazara is anti-minded about his long-standing dreams. His Bedouin village, Jabal al-Baba, is located near the occupied geographical centre of the West Bank, and is balanced between the north and south of what constitutes a future Palestinian state.

But as the day passes, the dream appears to disappear to the horizon farther than ever before.

Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced last week the final approval of thousands of new housing units to expand Israeli Male Admim settlement.

Smotrich revealed that his goal was to kill the prospects of the Palestinian state, saying, “The Palestinian state is being erased from the table with actions rather than slogans.”

“We want to confiscate this area to prevent the creation of a Palestinian state. Our fate is not just mine, but all children, all women, everyone. I am afraid,” Mazaraa, leader of the village committee, told CNN.

The Palestinian Bedouins face the threat of evacuation as Israeli authorities have destroyed their homes about 30 times, claiming to have previously unauthorized construction.

About 7,000 Palestinians living in 22 Bedouin communities face the threat of forced displacement by E1, according to the Palestinian authorities Governor of Jerusalem.

Jabal Al Baba is one of the communities that live in 80 families, with a total of 450 Palestinians. The village has about 3,000 animals, a bedrock of life for Bedouin shepherds.

As Mazara walks around the house, he says he could be bulldozed at any time, so he points to the residence of the nearby Jewish Mar Admim.

“The Bedouin presence on this land, unlike the existence of settlements, complements nature and benefits,” he said.

Israel captured the West Bank from Jordan in the war of 1967 and then began establishing Jewish settlements deemed illegal by international law, the United Nations and much of the international community. The United Nations also views the West Bank and East Jerusalem as occupied territories, where Palestinians seek a future state.

Settlements are widely viewed as the greatest obstacle of the Palestinian state, with many Jewish communities expanding around Palestinian population centres, often built on privately owned Palestinian land. Today, UN figures show that 700,000 Jewish settlers live among the approximately 3 million Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

“These families have been here for their lives since before 1967,” says Mazara. “They were here before the settlement was built… As a Bedouin, it is important that I remain in this area. It is not Israel’s right to choose my life for me in another area.”

A view of the Palestinian town of Al Eizariya, a nearby separation wall and a nearby Palestinian town where the Israeli government plans to build thousands of homes as part of the E1 settlement project.

To counteract the prospects of the Palestinian state was the honest desire of Bezarel Sumotrich and other members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet.

He has long advocated for the expansion of Jewish settlements. According to leak audio from June 2024, Smotrich said the way to prevent a Palestinian state that puts the Israeli state at risk is to develop Jewish settlements. “The goal is to change the DNA of the system over the years.”

After US President Donald Trump won the US election, Sumotrich ordered preparations for the annexation of settlements in the West Bank. He told Knesset (Israel Congress) that Trump’s victory “will bring important opportunities to the nation of Israel.” Smotrich, the “only way to remove” the “threat” of the Palestinian state, added that “the application of Israeli sovereignty to the entire Israeli and Samaria settlements,” a biblical term for the Israelites to refer to the West Bank.

Just south of the village is Aleizariya, the bustling Palestinian town of East Jerusalem. It’s a fast-moving community that tunes horns and busy streets and meets commercial needs.

Some of the evacuated Bedouins will be forced to move to the city, Municipal official Mohammad Mathal told CNN. It is a different world for the Bedouins, an unfamiliar environment, a living and earning money, and there is no place to graze livestock.

In addition to building a reconciliation for E1, Israel plans to straighten out Al-eizariya and build roads that will set up separate road systems for Israelis and Palestinians, according to Peace Now, an organization that closely tracks the expansion of the reconciliation.

When CNN visited the town, Matar said we had been given 112 demolition orders to the shopkeeper and the eviction deadline had already passed. In a barely quiet conversation, the Palestinians asked in fear if they had heard the news about what would happen next.

Some people had already chosen to cut their losses and close the shop as soon as the order was issued despite no prospect of compensation. Others who had previously experienced these threats have chosen to stay.

“They are waiting for God or state intervention to stop this project,” Matar said.

Residents said Al-eizariya is considered a “food basket” for the city of Jerusalem. It hosts the largest shopping market on the West Bank, connecting the north to the south.

If Israel’s planned roads are built, they will have to go elsewhere to find their needs, making it more difficult and expensive. As for the shopkeeper, they fear that the savings of their lives will be exhausted.

“I put all the money here. If they destroy it, there’s nothing to do anymore. I’m 65 years old. I hope they don’t.”

“I hope (US) President (Donald) Trump will be involved and stop this.”

During Trump’s first term, his administration laid out a vision that became known as the “Deals of the Century.” Trump’s plans vaguely referred to a limited portion of East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state. But since Trump re-inaugurated office, he has hardly mentioned this long-term plan.

The bustling city of Al Eizariya is

Hagit ofran is an Israeli peace activist and co-director of the current peace clock. She monitors Israeli settlements and has opposed Israel’s occupation of the West Bank for decades.

She said nearly two years of attacks in Gaza, Israel, made it difficult to get people’s attention on the West Bank.

“We are fighting to end the war in Gaza and to end the occupation in the West Bank. That’s a crazy world here,” she told CNN.

When considering building roads to promote movement of residents of the E1 settlement, Ofran said it would effectively close the West Bank centre for the Palestinians and control their movement. Palestinian homes will be demolished and communities will be quarantined.

“I don’t know how they will have access to the territory they normally access, and it depends on the goodwill of this government.

“We can’t develop a viable economy rather than talking about the nation,” she said. “It is impossible to have a capital in East Jerusalem for the Palestinians.”

For some Palestinians, the recent final recognition of the E1 settlement did not wipe out the idea of the Palestinian state, as Israel wiped it out long ago by creating facts on earth.

“If you look at the settlements that are currently ubiquitous, it is impossible to build a Palestinian state with geographical continuity,” said Khalil Tufakzi, a Palestinian cartographer who has been monitoring Israeli settlements since 1983.

He said the move spells the end of the Palestinian future, but that ending was confirmed long ago.

“They (the Israeli government) used President Trump to implement the plan on October 7th.”

Back on the hill, Mazara stares at the village in the wind beneath the trees in the afternoon spread.

“It’s not just my life. It’s my memory and my childhood. I know every corner of the area,” he said.

“Jabal al-Baba is not only the end of the Bedouin dreams who live here, but also the end of all Palestinian dreams of having a future nation.”
