New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani was hospitalized on August 30 after a car accident near Manchester, New Hampshire, a spokesman said.

Giuliani suffered from fractured vertebrae and other cuts, spokesman Michael Ragusa said in a post on social media site X. He said Giuliani’s car rental was hit from behind at high speeds.

Ragusa said Giuliani is a “great spirit” and is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days.

Giuliani has worked as a lawyer for President Donald Trump in his failed efforts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election.

Lucky Kansas City player gets an invitation to Swift Kels wedding

0

play

The 53-man roster is not the only cut made by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding have been called the royal wedding of the American family, but that’s not too far. She is the most famous woman on the planet and is an icon of both musical talent and business insight. He is the biggest name of the country’s biggest sports and the three-time Super Bowl champion who had already performed pop culture crossovers before he began dating.

Their wedding guests are “whose person” of entertainment, sports and fashion, and no one will miss it. However, unless Swift and Kelce are having big days at Arrowhead Stadium, you will need to make your choice. Considering that only the Chiefs players, coaches and their important others are around 200, some will be left behind.

Let’s see who on the A-Team, who is on the practice team, and who will become free agents when it comes to weddings of the century.

in

Andy Reed. Kansas City’s chiefs coach, who has known Swift’s father since his days with the Philadelphia Eagles, played the matchmaker between the two. Of course, he’s on the guest list.

By the way, they should be steering him.

Patrick Mahomes. ah. He and Kelse are BFFS. Kelse was one of Mahomes’ grooms when the quarterback got married – and his wife and Swift became quick friends. He’s not only going, but probably at a wedding party.

Suitable for Xavier. Swift was very excited when the Chiefs drafted a speedy wide receiver and wondered if her friend had lost her heart. Since then, he has done nothing to ease that enthusiasm.

The whole attack line. Offensive skill players know who is responsible for their success.

Chris Jones. This is a bit difficult as Swift tied up with Jones’ ex-girlfriend and sat together in the game and took pictures together. But Jones, along with Kelse and Mahomes, is the face of the Kansas City franchise and the captain of its defense, so he takes priority.

Kareem Hunt. Kelse has long been one of the running back’s biggest supporters and has called him “family” after last season’s AFC Championship. Hunt also received an invitation to an Airs-themed birthday party that Kelse threw at Swift last season, and was featured in group photos with Kelse, Swift, Mahomes and Center Creed Humphrey.

Isiah Pacheco. He and his longtime girlfriend joined Swift and Kelce in Kelce’s box for a Thursday night match between Cincinnati, Kelce’s alma mater and Nebraska.

Trent McDuffy and George Caraftis. They are both defense anchors. More importantly, they both were drafted by the chieftain and spent their entire careers in Kansas City.

perhaps

I drove. An integral part of the defense, but this is just his third season with the Chiefs.

rookie. As these invitations are coveted, they need to do something to make a big impression. Excluding Jake BringingStool. The tight end looks for the tight end.

Brian Cook. Defensive players may not know just like Kelse and other teammates. But he went to Cincinnati.

Ryan Reynolds. He is a sports science head strength and conditioning coach/director and is not married to Blake Lively. Still, you may not want to risk confusion.

Make other plans

Harrison Bucker. The man you think is a woman is a second-rate citizen invited to the wedding of the biggest boss woman out there, and who loves nothing but to praise and celebrate her and her success?

Ha, ha, ha. I can’t say it with a straight face.

How Van Halen’s “Panama” became the ultimate 1980s driving song

0

play

One of the most hard drive rock songs of the 1980s is one of the rock songs about fast cars and fast women. It was the 1984 hit “Panama.”

The song has a bit of a story that stood out when compiling a summer driving playlist. So, the story is as follows: Lore says the interviewer accused Van Halen’s then lead singer David Leellos of writing songs about sex, drugs and fast cars. Ross realised that he had never actually written a song about a fast car, so the story began to tackle “Panama.”

“I don’t like it, get her shiny machine/wheel vibe and keep the moving parts clean…” The lyrics go.

Some versions of the story believe that the song’s name comes from what stripper Ross knew. But it was also the name of the real car, David Bertinelli told the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA Today network. Bertinelli was the stepbrother of the late Eddie Van Halen when the song was written.

“Ed was writing music and David Lee Ross came up with lyrics,” Bertinelli said. “Dave had a friend who had a race car and was called Panama.”

The famous bridge for the song was the idea of Eddie Van Halen, Bertinelli said. On the bridge, Ross sings: “I can barely see the road due to the heat“Because the car’s engine is revving in the background.

The engine comes from Van Halen’s 1972 Red Lamborghini Mula S and is an anniversary gift from his wife Valerie Bertinelli, said David Bertinelli. The license plate features “Apr11” which was the anniversary.

“They wanted the engine sound to the song, so they dragged the microphone from Recording Studio 5150 (Los Angeles) into the car. There’s an asphalt driveway next to the studio.” “There was too much wind near the exhaust, so we put the microphone near the gas cap. Ed got there and spun it.”

The car had a V-12 engine. Bertinelli said he rode it that day and said, “It was fast and crazy. A gorgeous machine.”

“He drove pretty fast,” Bertinelli said of Eddie. “We used to drive a motorcycle together and Ed was lead foot. He was pulled, but they let him go.”

Van Halen’s future lead singer Sammy Hagar wasn’t that lucky. He got his ticket because he went 62 mph in the 55 mph zone in New York.

Eddie Van Halen passed away on October 6, 2020, but she was linked to Michigan through Bertinelli, who lives in Chalebova. Bertinelli’s children were raised in Clarkston when their father worked for General Motors.

Hersheypark says the guests quickly noticed and helped guide the boy to safety, and the child reunited with his family and harm unharmed.

play

A theme park statement revealed that wandering on a monorail track in Hershey Park was soon rescued and reunited with his family.

According to a statement from Hersheypark spokesperson Quinn Breiner, the child was separated from his parents and was reported missing around 5:05pm on August 30th. The child entered a safe area for the monorail and passed the chained closure and barricade turnstyle at the entrance. The monorail was not in operation at the time.

The child was at a closed station about 20 minutes ago before it was discovered to be walking along a monorail track that was suspended well above the ground. Videos of the incident posted on social media show guests at the park screaming for children from underneath. One guest will eventually climb onto the truck to pick up the kids.

Breiner confirmed that the guests “quickly realized and helped lead the child to safety,” and said the boy was reunited with his family unharmed at about 5:28pm.

“We appreciate the vigilance of our guests and the prompt response of our team, and we are still committed to maintaining the highest level of guest safety across Hershey Park,” Breiner said.

Makeup Artist Shares Honest Reviews of Louis Vuitton’s New Makeup Line

0

“I don’t know if this is worth it for you. At the end of the day, I think luxury is a sensation. It’s a gorgeous feeling,” Sofia PapastaMelos, creator of beauty, said in a YouTube video.

play

Less than a week after its release, makeup artists have acquired Louis Vuitton’s debut cosmetics collection, and people want to share their thoughts on expensive luxury products.

Louis Vuitton debuted his first cosmetics collection, La Beauty, on Monday, August 25th. The collection, created by world-renowned makeup artist Dame Pat McGrath, includes lipsticks, lip balms and eyeshadow.

Makeup artists and enthusiasts were keen on dropping the collection, but approached skeptical due to the large price tag. One tube of lipstick from the line starts at $160, while the four shades of eyeshadow palette costs $250 (approximately $62 per shade).

Within the first week of its release, a considerable amount of content creators who shared sample and thoughts about the collection were presented by Louis Vuitton to promote a free product. However, others bravely confronted busy face-to-face pop-ups and online sales, getting items to wear and share with you one or two items.

Mainly, makeup enthusiasts express their satisfaction with the quality, colour and packaging and express their satisfaction with the collection. But in the end, the collection seemed to spark a dialogue about the meaning of luxury.

“That’s how much will you be willing to pay to feel fantasy?” Beauty Creator Sofia Papastamelos said in a recent YouTube video. “I don’t know if this will feel flashy to you. I don’t know if this is worthy of you. At the end of the day, I think luxury is a sensation. It’s luxury. It’s not about people who know they’re wearing Louis Vuitton eyeshadow.

Interested in hearing more detailed thoughts on the collection? Here’s what makeup artists have to say:

Is a $160 Louis Vuitton lipstick worth it?

As of Sunday, August 31st, some of the outstanding Rouge’s full lipstick shades had already sold out on the Louis Vuitton website.

A content creator focused on several different make-ups described the lipstick as “moisturizing” and highly pigmented.

“It’s a bit dry, but not dry. These feel very comfortable on the lips. I think they have a decent longevity. Do you think they have as longevity as they claim them? Louis Vuitton’s website boasts that Satin Rouge will complete the last eight hours of lipstick.

At the end of the day, Papasta Melos said he doesn’t think lipstick is worth the cost as he prefers other gorgeous lipsticks on the market.

Amelia Cross, known as Amelia’s beauty chat on social media, said in a recent YouTube video that she was not impressed with the 55 shades offered as someone who was attracted to more natural tones.

“When it comes to lipstick, you know, I didn’t want to buy it in many places just because I could get some shades that I’m particularly interested in,” she said.

Luxurious weight

Overall, people who purchased (or received) products from the collection agree that each one is very large.

In her YouTube video, Cross says the Ombres Complete Eyeshadow is $250 and weighs about 5 ounces. For reference, it is as heavy as standard baseball.

“It’s very heavy,” Cross said in her video. “It’s probably the heaviest compact. When it comes to eyeshadow, it’s the heaviest compact.”

Papasta Melos said that while Rouge’s full lipstick also weighs in great weight, there is none more luxurious packaging than other brands and products, such as Celine’s La Rouge Satin lipstick ($78) or Guerlain’s customizable Ultra Care Lipstick ($80).

“I have no experience with mothership.”

It was McGrath who painted makeup lovers more in La Beauty than Louis Vuitton’s name. The award-winning makeup artist features countless celebrities in their portfolio and features a unique make-up line, Pat McGrath Labs. In particular, the line features McGrath’s Mothership eyeshadow palette, popular for its bold colour options. For reference, Mothership Palettes usually come in 10 colors for around $128.

Makeup enthusiasts quickly pointed out that LaBeauté’s omble is not the same vibrant eyeshadow as Mothership eyeshadow.

Papastamelos said in a YouTube video that Ombres’ full eyeshadow is not like McGrath’s mothership palette.

“If this is a Pat McGrath shade, it’s like gold melted throughout the lid and is very creamy. It’s a bit creamy and pigmented, but it’s not like it’s very richly saturated,” Papasta Mellos said of the Ombracet’s full eyeshadow palette beige moment.

Cross agreed.

“You’re not getting a mothership experience, but you’re not, but I don’t think any of us think we’re going to do that,” she said.

What products do you have in the LaBeauté Collection?

  • Rouge perfect lipstick: 55 total lipsticks, each containing 22 “creamy satin colors” and 28 “velvety matte shades” each, made with natural waxes of rose, jasmine and mimosa flowers. Shea butter and hyaluronic acid.

Lawmakers promise “explosive” press conference with Epstein victims

Rep. Ro Khanna is trying to force a floor vote on a bill that requires the government to release all Epstein files.

play

WASHINGTON – Future press conferences with the victims of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein could be “explosive.”

D-California MP Ro Khanna said the victim’s accounts would force the Justice Department to vote for a bill that requires the release of the file.

Rep. Khanna and R-Kentucky Thomas Massie – who is co-leading the effort – requires 218 signatures to make it happen.

With all 212 Democrats supporting the effort, there are only six Republicans who need to sign on, Khanna said NBC’s “meet the media with Kristen Welker.”

“What’s explosive is that both of us were with 10 Epstein victims, and many people have never spoken to us before,” Kanna said in a statement aired on August 31.

He said at a press conference planned for the Capitol Steps, “it has clearly told the American public that they want the Epstein Files to be released for the complete closure on this issue.”

The Epstein controversy created a division between President Donald Trump and his Magazine base. His supporters pushed back the Republican administration’s attempts to close Epstein’s book after helping Trump and his supporters raise expectations for a massive hit revelation.

The House Oversight Committee is summoning the real estate of the late filing company to explore the mismanagement of a federal investigation involving Epstein and his ex-girlfriend Githraine Maxwell.

Epstein died of suicide in a federal prison in New York in 2019, waiting for federal charges related to sex trafficking, but sparked anger and theory about anyone who knew or was involved in the sex ring he allegedly ran with Maxwell’s support. Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Pope Leo prays for victims of the Minneapolis Church’s shooting

  • Saturday’s Announcement Church held its first mass since the shooting.
  • Authorities have looked into a series of evidence to uncover potential motives for the tragedy.

The first American-born Pope Leo prayed Sunday for the victims of a deadly shooting rampage at Minneapolis Church, calling for the end of the “world-infecting arm pandemic…”

Leo spoke to the crowd gathered at St. Peter’s Square in Rome, and switched from Italy to English when discussing the shooting at the Announcement Church on August 27th.

“We will include in prayer the countless children killed and wounded every day around the world,” the Pope said. “Let’s plead with God to stop the big and small arm pandemic that infects our world.”

8-year-old Fletcher Merkel and 10-year-old Harper Moysky have been killed, with 15 children and three adults injured in the sole gunman attack in the masses celebrating the beginning of the school year. Robin Westman, 23, died of a self-harmed gunshot wound, leaving behind a document expressing hatred towards multiple groups, “he’s obsessed with the idea of killing a child,” authorities said.

The Pope prayed that the Virgin Mary would help mankind fulfill Isaiah’s prophecy.

Minneapolis held its first mass since filming on Saturday. More people were scheduled for Sunday, with all the masses taking place in the auditorium of the Announcement Catholic School next to the church.

Authorities have looked into a series of evidence to uncover potential motives for the tragedy. Investigators looked into the writings and online posts, searched for local homes linked to shooters, and conducted interviews. It shows newly acquired court records by St. Cloud Times, part of the USATODATY network.

In the records, investigators described a bloody scene inside the Announcement Catholic Church. Over 100 bullet casings were found. An AR-15-style rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun and a 9mm pistol all had additional ammunition in the suspect’s body. Authorities also reviewed Westman’s hateful writings.

“The shooters seemed to hate us all,” said Joseph Thompson, acting Minnesota-area lawyer. He described the book as “terrifying” and “vile,” and stated that Westman “sees attacks as a way to target our most vulnerable targets.”

Federal Governor Lisa Cook should publish mortgage documents, Dem says

0

Rep. Locanna (D-Calif) said President Trump was “trying to bully the Fed.”

play

WASHINGTON – Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook will need to release mortgage documents to combat President Donald Trump’s attempts to remove her, Democrat Locanna told NBC.

“She has to be transparent so we know this is just political football,” said Kanna, a leading progressive voice in California, “We’ll meet the press with Kristen Welker.”

Trump announced on August 25 that he had fired a chef for alleged mortgage fraud.

She is accused of saying in mortgage documents that homes in Michigan and Georgia are each “major residences” but have not been charged with a crime.

Kanna said Trump is “following Richard Nixon’s playbook to disrupt the Fed and bullying the Fed.”

Trump has repeatedly complained about Fed Chairman Jerome Powell not cutting interest rates quickly enough to drive the economy.

Kanna said Trump would only blame herself. The president’s drastic tariffs put inflationary pressure on the economy, and “leave the Fed in a favorable situation,” he said.

Both the customs duties and the termination of Cook are in the hands of the court.

The August 29 Court of Appeal held that most of Trump’s global tariffs were illegal, but the court has now allowed them to stay for now to give the Supreme Court time to ask for weight.

Also, a federal judge is deciding whether Cook can stay in her job, the court is considering whether her dismissal is legal.

College Football Week 1 winners and losers include Alabama flops

0

play

  • Alabama lost to Florida State 31-17 in the season opener.
  • Tulane emerged as a potential group of five playoff candidates after beating Northwestern.
  • Tennessee showed a strong offense in their victory over Syracuse.

It was erased as 15 years of unparalleled domination disappeared – Poof! – During the season and one game period.

Nick Saban is not walking through that door. Not Heck, AJ McCarron. There is no theoretical reason for optimism.

After losing to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma in director Karen DeBorer’s debut, the 8th Crimson Tide opened in 2025, finishing last season at or near the bottom of the Power 4 in an embarrassing 31-17 defeat in the unranked Florida state. The loss was Alabama’s first season opener since 2001.

Alabama has nothing particularly good at doing, and there are some obvious flaws, including offensive plays that averaged only 4.6 yards per play. From drops to missing blocks to missed allocations, Alabama’s attack could combine poor preparation with poor execution. Defensively, the tide allowed 6.1 yards per play and 10.9 yards per pass.

This is similar to Alabama’s second year game. It’s an average program that’s far from the national championships than at any point in the Saban era.

And considering that it has been unfolding since his victory over Georgia last September, it has become extremely difficult to see how Deboer’s tenure is going well.

This will make the Tide the biggest loser of the first Saturday of the 2025 season. The second comes in Texas, losing 14-7 in one of the most hyped season openers in recent history.

winner

Ohio

The victory over Texas reinserts the defending national champion in a poll by US LBM coaches as the Longhorns fall in the rankings. But that’s just the beginning. It is difficult to overstate the long-term impact that the results of Saturday’s season opening game will have on both teams along with the Big Ten and the SEC. In particular, how the Select Committee will ultimately evaluate the Buckeyes, Longhorns, and these two meetings

Playing with the reworked roster and coaching staff, the Buckeyes narrowed down enough from different offenses to get the type of victory that stays deep in the regular season and beyond. The match against Pennsylvania and Michigan will determine the Big Ten, but the odds of Ohio making the playoffs in some capacity have increased dramatically.

After the Buckeyes score just 203 yards per play with 3.8 yards per play, including just 2.3 yards per carry, the offensive end needs plenty of improvement. Before Saturday, the Buckeyes’ fewest yards in regular season games since 2016 were 252 yards in Michigan’s loss last year. By default, Julian Sayin surpassed Manning by avoiding turnovers and drawing attention to star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.

But this was something to be expected. OSU was overhauling things with new personnel and attacks behind new attack coordinators. The ongoing changes to the defense speak to the ability of the unit to maintain the Buckeyes while they are at or near the top of the FBS. The defense national champion will pass the famous test to open the year and should only get better from here.

LSU

No. 9 LSU forced Cade Klubnik into late for the fourth down, along with No. 4 Clemson in the red zone, earning 17-10 in the other Death Valley, regaining a huge chunk of momentum lost during the 2024 season. Considering the program’s unwinning mark in the season opener under Brian Kelly, not only flipping the script, but this will bring LSU back to the map as a legitimate contender for the SEC Crown and the National Championship. The defense stepped up: Clemson managed an offense of just 261 yards, only 1.6 yards per carry. While that performance rekinds criticism of Clemson’s offense, the story that comes out from Saturday is about the growth seen from LSU after years of gloomy defences.

I don’t know a bit about whether beating Alabama actually means anything regarding the worst possible climbing potential in the Seminoles ACC. However, from a symbolic perspective, it is difficult to reach the deep meaning behind the victory over the Crimson Tide. At the very least, the win talks about how Mike Nobel will remake the program in the offseason, especially when hiring new coordinators Gus Malzahn and Tony White. Another big addition was that former Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos said it was accurate in June when Alabama said “we don’t have Nick Saban to save them.”

Turrain

Tulane is the current favourite of the group of five-man playoff bids after an astonishing defeat in South Florida on Friday night and a 23-3 victory over the Northwest. Brigham Young’s quarterback transfer Jake Retzlaff threw for 152 yards and ran for a game-high 113 yards with two touchdowns. The Wildcats join Duke and No. 15 Mississippi State, one of three power four teams to play non-conference on Tulane. They should split the game against the Blue Devils and Rebels, losing only once in American play.

Tennessee

The No. 18 volunteers did not suffer from Nico Iamaleava’s hangover, beating Syracuse 45-26 in Atlanta behind a 281-yard total offense and three scores from new starting quarterback Joey Aguilar. The Appalachian State and UCLA transfers threw a balanced offense for 247 yards, running 246 yards and two touchdowns per carry. Based on Saturday, volunteers must be taken seriously as SEC candidates.

John Meter

The new Oklahoma quarterback saw some of the impact transfers by completing 30 of 30 throws for 392 yards with four touchdowns as Sooner beat Illinois 35-3. 392 yards set a new program record for their debut. Defeating Redbirds hasn’t said anything about the Sooners’ chances against the SEC or Michigan next week, but it’s clear that Matthere and coordinator Ben Arbuckle, who are away from Washington, will have a major positive impact on the crime.

loser

Texas

The Longhorns will try to make up for the rest of the regular season against their schedules that include No. 4 Georgia, No. 17 Florida, No. 21 Texas A&M and Oklahoma. We only have a year of data, but Texas could probably lose twice in the SEC and still stand in a massive playoff bid. However, the issue works deeper for the Longhorn, and includes early questions about Manning, the overall state of the offense, and whether he has enough experienced talent to play and beat the best teams in FBS. After months of praise as a SEC favorite, belly flops in the regular season, Texas didn’t resemble a team that many would expect to wire to the wire on top of their coach’s vote.

Archmanning

No player reflects this disappointment more than Manning, who went 17 out of 30 for 170 yards. Average 5.7 yards of anemia per throw, plus touchdowns and interceptions, and you can go with another 38 rushing yards. (It may not have been more commercials from Manning than completion against male defense from Manning during Fox’s broadcast, but it was nearby.) His struggle was highlighted by the fact that 98 of his passing yard came after the final five minutes of Texas, after being taken over by 14. This week’s Longhorns and their quarterbacks are absolutely cruel.

Karen Deboer

He blames Alabama’s latest failure. The next few months will determine if Deboer will return in 2026, but unless the tide completely collapses in SEC play, he should think that at least a year will be another year. Deboer’s current predicament can be linked to a fateful choice, rather than the results of evaluation, development and game day preparation. It’s about replacing the best coaches in the history of the program and continuing to carry on the expectations of the Saban era. It’s always better to trade guys that replace guys, you know.

Cade Clubnik

Clemson’s path to the playoffs still passes through teams such as Miami, SMU and the rest of the upper crust of ACC. Ultimately, LSU’s losses do much more to Clemson’s reputation and national respect than the Tigers’ overall playoff odds. (By the way, that level of respect was just a huge hit.) Klubnik, who started this year as one of the co-leaders of the Heisman Trophy, has a more specific impact, but he struggles to move past the mediocre game with losses. The senior hit 230 yards for 19 of 38 with throws and interceptions.

Kansas

After dropping Dublin’s Week 0 opening game to Dublin’s No. 21 Iowa State, No. 20 Kansas struggled to clean up the championship’s subdivision North Dakota before scoring with 42 seconds remaining to score to score 38-35. This featured a better game from quarterback Avery Johnson, who had 318 passing yards and three scores, but passing FCS opponents a little bit does not help bring the Wildcats’ depreciation back to the corner.

Scientists fear that studying “life in the mirror” will wipe out humanity

0

Can a research ban save us?

play

Kate Adamara was dealing with something dangerous.

In her synthetic biology lab, Adamara had given one important twist and took preliminary steps to create live cells from scratch. Changing these molecules creates an unnatural mirror image of a different cell, just like the left.

This effort is not only an attractive research challenge, but can also be used to improve biotechnology and medicine. However, when Adamala and her colleagues spoke with bi-security experts about the project, serious concerns began brewing.

“They started asking questions like, ‘Have you ever considered what happens if that cell is released or if it infects a human?'” said Adamala, an associate professor at the University of Minnesota. They didn’t have it.

Therefore, researchers have gathered dozens of experts from various fields around the world, including two Nobel Prize winners who have worked for months to determine the risks of creating so-called “mirror life” and the likelihood that those risks could be alleviated. Ultimately, they concluded that mirror cells could cause “unprecedented and irreversible harm” to our world.

“We cannot rule out scenarios in which mirror bacteria act as invasive species across many ecosystems. Scientists wrote in a paper published in Science Journal Science in December along with a 299-page technical report.

Vaughn Cooper, a co-author who is a professor at the University of Pittsburgh, said that studying how bacteria adapt to new environments is difficult to overstate the threats that mirror life could pose if the world doesn’t unite to ban further research.

“Mirror cells pose a level of threat that is far beyond what has previously existed on this planet. “And the risk of building a biosafety mechanism to control it is simply unworthy.”

What is Mirror Life?

Every known building block of life has a property known as chirality in one of two specific orientations. For example, DNA is made up of “right-handed” components called nucleotides, and proteins are made from “left-handed” amino acids.

In mirror cells, the chirality of these molecules is reversed. In theory, researchers said mirror cells could live and grow just like ours.

How Mirror Life can become an existential threat

Adamala said part of the motivation for creating mirror cells is that they do not interact with the world in the same way as natural cells. That’s what puts them in danger as well.

For example, Adamala said that treatments using cells can cause unwanted responses in a patient’s immune system, and at the same time can lead to illness while curing the underlying disease. It does not happen with treatments using mirror cells, as our immune system does not recognize them and attack them.

But that also means that mirror cells can replicate unchecked within our bodies, causing a fatal infection that can progress rapidly without causing our defense system, Cooper said.

“For example, if this is built and someone accidentally infected, it’s plausible that they probably go home and don’t know they’ve been infected for a while while this group is growing,” he said.

Mirror Cells can wreak havoc in our environment if they escape from the lab. Even if the initial mirror cells were “a bit weakened,” Cooper said there was an incredible competitive advantage over other bacteria, as there were no natural predators.

Cooper initially thought that mirror bacteria would eventually die due to food shortages, but there are enough molecules that are not right-handed or left-handed to maintain them. Labs that use dangerous substances generally have strict containment procedures, but they are not unreturnable and are too likely to escape, Cooper said.

A research ban has reached, but new laws were needed

Cooper said it is still impossible to construct cells from mirrors and the like, but researchers began the process by synthesizing mirror proteins and enzymes. He and his colleagues estimated that, given them sufficient resources and talent, scientists could create a complete mirror bacteria within ten years.

But for now, the world may be safe from mirror cells. Adamala said that almost everyone in the small scientific community interested in developing these cells agrees that this is not the case as a result of their discoveries.

The paper urged nearly 100 scientists and ethicists to gather in Paris in June, further debating the risks of creating mirror creatures. According to the institution that hosted the event, many people feel that self-regulation alone is not enough, and researchers are discussing the next steps to meet again in Manchester, the UK and Singapore.

“The risks are so high that I don’t think we should do this kind of job,” said Jorg Hoheisel, honorary director of the German Cancer Research Centre, who attended a conference in Paris.

Adamala said he wanted to see the creation of a treaty banning the development of mirror cells around the world, as well as the United Nations Bioweapons Treaty. She believes that is unlikely because of the political challenge of passing international law, but she hopes that individual countries and research funders agree to abandon their pursuit of mirror life.

“This is a really good time to talk about it because you can actually stop it before it happens,” she said. “This is a very rare and unusual opportunity to mitigate the risks we don’t actually have at our doorstep.”

Chicago Mayor says City will stand up to Trump’s “tyranny”

play

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has taken a rebellious stance against President Donald Trump’s promise to deploy the National Guard in the third largest city in the country.

On August 30, Johnson signed an executive order, which he said showed him “how to stand up against this tyranny.”

According to the order, Chicago police will not help the National Guard with related activities such as enforcing immigrants, implementing traffic stops and manning checkpoints.

“This is a very clear distinction between what our law enforcement is engaged and what our federal agents are involved,” Johnson said at a news conference. “This president is not going to come to our police station and represent us.”

Chicagoans hope that the White House will bring immigration crackdowns to cities after Labor Day.

Trump chased Illinois Gov. JB Pretzker on August 30, writing that Pretzker is “crazy” if he doesn’t think it needs to help him fight crime.

“He’s better make it faster, faster, or we’re coming!” Trump wrote on his true social site.

Pretzker warns Chicagoans to expect military checkpoints with “unidentified mask officers while taking their children to school.” However, he asked protesters to refrain from giving reasons to engage with the federal forces.

Nearly 2,300 armed National Guard personnel are currently in Washington, D.C. after Trump declared a public crime emergency in the country’s capital on August 11, despite data from Washington police showing a 26% drop from last year.

Police Department data shows that violent crime rates are also declining in Chicago.

Trump also mentioned Los Angeles in New York City, Los Angeles, Baltimore in Oakland and Oakland, California. Cities with Democratic mayors in the state led by a Democratic governor are potential federal targets.

Johnson said his executive order ensures that Chicagoans know their rights and that all city agencies know what to do to protect those rights.

Johnson argued that Trump “is the greatest threat to democracy we have experienced in our country’s history,” and that he “will not receive orders from the federal government.”

The NFL Schedule 2025 will take over even more television broadcast times. How they do it

0

The NFL is back on our television and is bigger than ever.

With the 2025 season starting Thursday, NFL fans are taking part in another record season of television viewing times. Assuming every game takes at least 3 hours, there will be over 330 hours of NFL broadcasts. This is about two weeks stuffed into the next 18 weeks, or about two days longer than chewing on 36 seasons of “The Simpsons.”

Of course, like most products we crave, “more” comes with a price. Even if your TV is hooked on the antenna, you’ll still need five subscriptions: YouTube, ESPN, Prime Video, NFL Network and Netflix to watch all the regular season games.

Since 2005, time slots have increased by 41%

The 2025 NFL schedule is very different from when Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers was the Packers rookie backup in 2005.

Many of the new time slots from the past 20 years come from Thursday night games. It is currently being carried on Prime Video. In 2005, two of the three games on Thursday were traditional Thanksgiving games. The third was the opening night between the Raiders and the Patriots. A young Tom Brady was at the helm. According to the Pro Football Reference, the NFL added an evening Thanksgiving game the following year in 2006.

The NFL schedule has also expanded at the edge:

nfl added its 17th game in 2021, offering at least 15 hours of viewing time compared to its 2005 schedule.

Two weeks of the Monday Monday Night Football Schedule are very similar to the weekly NBA schedule. The 2025 schedule is also two games between ABC and ESPN, an hour apart on two different Monday nights.

In addition to the evening of the hresk festival, the NFL also won several hours during their holidays. The 3rd season of Black Friday games at 3pm appears to be here to stay as well as the three games at Christmas.

NBA vs NFL on Christmas Day 2025

Next to the NFL, the NBA and MLB are far-off seconds for American television viewers. And the NFL scheduler knows clearly, taking into account the way the league’s schedules have changed.

The NBA traditionally viewed December 25th as the national stage day. This is the second first day of the league. Since 2023, the NFL has stepped up plans for the NBA’s Christmas Day in three games. It will be interesting to see what Tuesday, December 25th, 2029 brings. Similarly, MLB no longer plays World Series games on Sunday nights.

The NFL will add the 7th International Game in 2025

Another difference between this year’s schedule and Rodgers’ first season is the NFL international game series.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that Americans get at least seven hours of sleep. There will be 17 hours left for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and his staff. They will provide as many hours of football programming as they wake up during the NFL Sundays this season.

The NFL International series began in 2007, but it wasn’t 12 years ago that the league tested the 9:30am game. The 9:30am international tournament slate this year will begin in week four when the Vikings play the Steelers and Rodgers at Croke Park, the NFL’s first regular season game in Dublin, Ireland.

Fast food isn’t that cheap anymore. This is something that’s different.

0

play

Fast food restaurants are once fighting to get customers back, when the first stop for Americans trying to get at least one meal before a long job.

McDonald’s and Wendy’s leaders have seen a decline in breakfast sales across the fast food sector, said during a revenue call in early August. The family is reassessing whether a quick drive-thru trip is worth the price, experts told USA Today.

In response, some chains are adjusting their prices. However, as Americans are feeling the effects of inflation again, it is unclear whether any near future moves will be sufficient to bring back customers.

What’s going on with fast food restaurants and prices?

Some value equations are not balanced due to inflation, according to Neil Saunders, a retail analyst at research and analytics firm GlobalData.

“McDonald’s, for example, is considered a modification to cheap snacks and cheap fast food, a relatively expensive purchase, especially for families,” Sanders told USA Today. “A lot of people don’t think it’s worth the money, so we had them eat there.”

Restaurants respond by offering deals. Pizza Hut recently ended its $2-dollar personal bread pizza deal on Tuesday.

McDonald’s will lower the price of its worth of meals in September, after the Wall Street Journal and CNN complained about the big MAC meal that rose to $18, citing anonymous sources.. The price reduction follows weeks of discussion between McDonald’s corporate executives and restaurant franchise operators, including companies that provide financial assistance if franchisees agree to lower prices, the Journal reported.

McDonald declined to comment on the journal’s reported price changes, but told USA Today, “The great value has always been part of McDonald’s DNA, and that commitment remains strong today.”

95% of McDonald’s are owned by the franchise owners. Franchise owners will ultimately price their locations after McDonald’s offers the proposal, but franchisees can vote for a specific price range or national campaign, said Peter Sale, managing director of BTIG’s research.

Why did the prices at fast food restaurants rise?

Restaurant costs have been stressing restaurants, particularly since the Covid-19 pandemic, said Saleh, who has looked into the distribution of restaurants and food. Additionally, he said fast food franchisees are dealing with increased loyalty rates and rent for new units.

He said that if they pushed for increased inflation and labor costs, especially increasing the minimum wage to $15 or more in many states. They will be passed on to consumers, he said.

“From 2019 to 2023, McDonald’s had to raise prices by 40% to offset inflation,” Saleh told USA Today. “In five years they would have usually gotten between 2% and 2.5%, or 10% and 12% (due to Covid-19). They had to take 40%. Chipotle took 35%.”

If industry leaders had to raise prices that much, other competitors did the same, Saleh said.

However, Saleh said that in casual dining spaces where customers have more sit-in meals, many restaurants only increased their prices by 20% to 25%.

“So what happened?” Saleh asked. “The value of money in casual meals has improved compared to the quick service space.”

Fast service, or fast food operators, rely on hourly labor rather than casual meals.

A May 2024 open letter from McDonald’s US Joe Arlinger said that pay, meals and paper costs have increased by around 40% over the past five years, and the average price of McDonald’s menu items has also risen by 40% at the same time.

Will lowering the price of combo meals increase sales?

“Reducing prices will help solve the problem of McDonald’s being considered too expensive,” Sanders said. “The question is whether a lower price is enough. Prices are still very high in places they used to be, and they’re smoking consumers.”

Before the pandemic, sales from McDonald’s worthy meal menu ranged from 10% to 12%, Saleh said. Today, the $5 McDonald’s worth of meals, their buy-out one offering, and all the discounts you can get on the app are over 30% of their sales, Saleh said.

“I think they want it to be much lower than that,” Saleh said.

Why is McDonald’s and Wendy’s breakfast food not going well?

Sanders and Saleh shared the same sentiment as McDonald’s and Wendy’s leaders, reiterating and disrupting breakfast sales.

“Breakfast is a relatively easy sacrifice because people can fix something at home and save money,” Sanders said.

As it comes out of the pandemic, fewer people travel to work every day, Sale said.

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kemchinski confirmed the breakfast sales hit during the revenue call on August 6th after a slow start to the year and overall sales improved.

“You’re watching people skip opportunities, so they’re either skipping a part of the day like breakfast, trading down within our menu, or eating at home,” he said during the revenue call (“day part” is the industry term for daytime meals).

“Yes, breakfast will continue to get worse than the rest of the day, as consumers tend to have an increased uncertainty and when consumers choose to eat another meal at home, breakfast is often the place to do that,” Ken Cook, interim CEO and CFO at Wendy, said in a revenue call on August 8th.

Is the McDonald’s change intended to target a specific demographic?

“Re-replacing low-income consumers is important because they usually visit our restaurants more frequently than middle-income consumers,” Kemchinski said in a revenue call.

Sale said McDonald’s “undetectedly targets low-income consumers.”

“There’s a lot of anxiety and anxiety about that low-income consumer. I think we can all guess why. There are probably questions and questions about tariffs and employment,” he said.

McDonald’s chief financial officer, Ian Borden, said during the revenue call, that visits to quick service restaurants by low-income consumers fell double digits in the second quarter. He said middle-income consumer traffic was “slightly positive” compared to the first quarter, with high-income consumers continuing to increase visits.

However, Sanders said, “The price reductions are not actually aimed at one demographic, as there is a widespread feeling that prices are too high. However, family diners may be the most profitable as they bring in multiple people and checks are much higher.”

What can fast food operators do to get consumers back?

Saunders said cutting prices and providing valuable meals and great deals is an important way to make fast food more attractive to people’s budgets. But beyond that, menu innovation with exciting new options is another way to drive some traffic, he said.

Restaurants that offer the best deals “call it as everyday value and are known for that,” Saleh said. He points out Domino’s mix and match offers, and you can get two medium, two topping pizzas for a big pizza special for $6.99 each, or $7.99.

“If it’s $20, if you really want to domino’s, you can support a family of four. You can’t really do that in other segments,” says Saleh. “You can’t do that with McDonald’s or casual meals, so what I have that deep value seems to be doing very well and winning.”

Are vanity plates protected as free speech? The Supreme Court may decide.

0

The Tennessee woman’s lawyer, challenging her personalized plate rejection for “69pwndu,” argues that the state’s rules have led to “dizzy censorship.”

play

WASHINGTON – Texas has not let President Donald Trump critics have a custom license plate with the words “Prison 45” written on it.

Michigan college football fans cannot request a plate of vanity with the words “male saxophone.”

Arizona has allowed the religious message “Jesusnm.” However, Vermont blocked “JN36TN.” This is John 3:16, a reference to biblical poetry.

Lawyers for women in Tennessee say rules about what is and is not allowed on personalized plates are often vague and could amount to “an array of dizzying censors.”

Leah Gilliam wants the court to recognize that it is expressing its views through the vanity plate, a decision that limits its ability to control its message, not the government.

Justice came to the opposite conclusion in 2015 when supporting restrictions on the design of specialist license plates to support causes or organizations. The Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision, and the sale of specialized plates could ban images such as Confederate flags.

“The state has long used license plates in this country to convey the government’s message,” Judge Stephen Breyer wrote for the majority.

However, Gilliam’s lawyers argue that the judges do not agree whether the same applies to letter-number combinations on personalized license plates.

“And considering that the rights to the first amendment that was changed when car owners move around the state will be changed, intervention is needed quickly,” they told the Supreme Court. “The same personalized plates appearing in cars in Maryland, Oregon, Delaware, Rhode Island, Kentucky, California and Michigan can be banned in Tennessee, Indiana and Hawaii.”

Vanity Plate revoked to refer to “sexual domination”

In Gilliam’s case, Tennessee initially approved a request for a personalized license plate with the words “69pwndu.” She said the letter referred to “Pwnd U.” She initially reflected some of her phone numbers and was not a sexual reference, she said. Gilliam later said she was an astronomy enthusiast, and “69” refers to the year of the moon landing.

However, the state received a complaint 11 years after allowing the plate, telling her that it should be revoked for referring to sexual control.

Gilliam sued, claiming that Tennessee had violated her free speech.

The Tennessee Supreme Court said the vanity plate was a government speech

The Tennessee Supreme Court said the state’s restrictions coincided with the US Supreme Court’s 2015 decision in Walker v. Texas, the son of a Confederate veteran.

“Personalized alphanumeric combinations differ in some respects from special plate designs, but the faithful application of Walker’s reasoning forces them to conclude that they are government speeches,” the Tennessee Supreme Court ruled.

Most of Gilliam’s arguments are attacks on how the Supreme Court decided on the 2015 case, the court said.

“These arguments will be directed more appropriately towards the U.S. Supreme Court, the only court that has the power to overturn or repeal that precedent,” the court said.

Gilliam filed an appeal in July.

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skulmetti declined to comment.

Tennessee refused about 1,000 plates

In Tennessee, personalized license plate requests are evaluated by a team of five who review 80-100 applications per day, according to court filings. The team consults the urban dictionary about the meaning of less common terms and reviews internal documents with undesirable structures.

Tennessee currently has around 60,000 active personalized plates, and has rejected almost 1,000 since the program began in 1998.

Gilliam has not challenged the state’s right to prohibit profanity, sexual or vulgar plates.

“The state can definitely do it using parameters that properly “limit” the discretion of civil servants,” her lawyer wrote.

Does “imhigh” represent the driver or condition view?

They say the state has limitations, as they don’t have the same governmental accusations as specialist plates carrying “slogans curated by the government in addition to the names of the nations,” such as “Beautiful Texas.”

In contrast, Gilliam’s lawyers said no one thinks that a license plate reading “imhigh”, “iminluv” or “imabrat” describes the nation.

“These are messages from the car owner,” they wrote, “not Tennessee.”

And unless they are protected as personal speeches, the state – for example – supports one party, but can ban another party, or allow plates that promote one religion, or promote one religion, Gilliams’ lawyers argue.

Rhode Island rethinks plates after legal challenge

Rhode Island suspended its Vanity Plate Program in 2021 that I tried to remember the plate from the Tesla owner who said “fkgas.” (Owner Sean Carroll said the tag means “fake gas,” but admitted it could be read in a different way.)

The ACLU sued on Carroll’s behalf, claiming that the automotive division could afford too much to reject the request. The judge issued a preliminary decision in Carroll’s favour, but the state is still working to update that rule.

Gilliam’s lawyers have a plausible argument that there is dramatic difference between judges about vanity plates, and that those plates are different from specialized plates, said GS Hans, First Amendment expert at Cornell Law School.

But that may not be enough for justice to be involved, he said.

If so, he said it might be because he wants to weigh more broadly on the issue of when something is eligible for a government speech, such as when libraries stock shelves or determining which groups can raise flags on government property.

“The court remains involved in the questions in the government’s speech,” Hans said.

Free speech group back appeal

The case has attracted the support of several free speech groups, including the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression and the First Amended Bar Association.

In a brief supporter of Gilliam’s appeal, these groups said the protections enjoyed by government speeches are “catnips for government officials and have strong incentives to push boundaries to free them from the burdens under the First Amendment.”

“If it endures,” the group said the Tennessee Supreme Court refused Gilliam’s case.

Verizon customers report wireless service issues

With over 11,000 outages reported on Saturday evening, August 30th, some Verizon customers may be experiencing service issues.

According to Downtector, around 7:19 PM ET there were approximately 11,134 reports of Verizon’s wireless outages. Verizon customers have reported service issues throughout the afternoon, with more than 22,000 people currently reporting outages around 3:45pm and over 18,000 people reporting connectivity issues as of 6:09pm

The provider is aware that the official Verizon support page responded to multiple users on Saturday night and said, “We are aware of software issues affecting some customers’ wireless services. Engineers are involved and are working quickly to identify and resolve the issue.

“We know how much we rely on Verizon and we apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience,” the provider continued.

Verizon did not give you a timeline as to when the issue would be resolved. So far, the number of reports appears to have been declining.

Why does your iPhone call it “SOS”?

Customers currently experiencing service issues comment on their Verizon community page that their phones are in “SOS mode.” A California customer commented that since noon (in California) new iPhones must be placed in SOS.

According to Apple support, users who lose their services may have their iPhone displaying “SOS” or “SOS only” messages at the top of the screen. In SOS mode, emergency calls can be continued.

To turn off SOS mode, users can go to iPhone settings and, according to Apple support, they can turn on plane mode for at least 15 seconds. Next, turn off airplane mode.

Where is the Verizon service going outage?

Although outages are nationwide, down detector maps show the issues of service that affect primarily the East Coast, particularly in New York, Boston and Washington, DC.

However, down devices have been reported outages in Palm Springs and elsewhere in California.

The most problematic Metropolitan areas include Atlanta, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Two things that should be better

The Sportage Hybrid’s fuel economy in 2026 was slightly lower compared to last year. Currently, the most fuel efficient model combines city/highway driving to get 42 mpg, with additional functional register 35 reducing the top trim.

Its downside could be expanded if the Toyota RAV4, a top-selling compact SUV, is on sale in an all-new hybrid later this year.

Kia held up the grumpy flat panel HVAC/audio controls, which required pressing a fan or a small triangle icon to switch the adjacent set of flat touchpoints from climate to audio functionality.

Why a triangle? Your guess is as good as mine. The same can be said about why Kia didn’t replace the annoying setup with physical buttons in Finicky, just like Kia did with the Ioniq 5 Compact SUV earlier this year.

Drive impressions

The Sportage Hybrid accelerates well from a stop. Passing the highway requires some advance planning. The passenger compartment of the SUV is spacious, comfortable, extremely quiet and over rough roads.

The ride was a bit offensive with the broken pavement in downtown Louisville, but the sport was well handled on a long, scenic drive along the Ohio River through the hills of southern Indiana. The sport was quiet, competent and enjoyable, rewinded the small town along the Kentucky side and down I-65 to Bardstown on the Bourbon Trail.

The Harman/Kardon Premium Sound System made the fantastic sound of playing everything from the Great American Songbook to High Woman.

Why buy the 2026 Kia Sportage Hybrid?

The Sportage Hybrid is the lowest-priced hybrid compact SUV. Fuel economy has been reduced, but it’s much better than you get with a non-hybrid.

The new 2026 lights loosen the look, and updates like a crisp HUD and a 12.3-inch touchscreen add to the charming and kind cabin appeal. The cargo space is good.

KIA vehicles are the most attractive and attractive of any mass market brand.

Trump solves the White House Rose Garden Mystery

0

Trump announced he had successfully found the perpetrator who caused the “gigantic gouache” in the new limestone at Rose Garden.

play

President Donald Trump’s love for the surface (particularly marble and stone) may have only opened up a new career path for him.

Trump announced on August 30 that he successfully resolved the White House whodunit, including the recently installed “Limestone Plus” at the Rose Garden Intruto Social Post.

“Three days ago, while praising the stonework, I happened to notice a huge gouache of limestone that stretched over 25 yards. It was deep and troublesome!” he wrote. “I started screaming, ‘Who did this, and I want to know now!” – and I wasn’t saying this in a good way.

But fortunately for Trump, the White House has “the best security equipment anywhere” and has been able to identify the obvious perpetrator through video footage.

“They bring back stupid people and look at their bosses (in their sunglasses!),” Trump wrote.

The subcontractor used steel carts “a broken and badly titled, rubbing hard on soft, beautiful stones,” Trump said.

Next course of action?

“Please replace the stones, charge the contractor, and don’t let the contractor work in the White House again,” Trump said.

“Surfaces are very important to me as a builder,” he wrote.

Renovations to the Rose Garden, which included tearing the grass and replacing it with stone, continued throughout the summer. The project was complete when Trump noticed the stone “gouache.” The White House did not respond immediately when the redo was complete. Trump previously said he saw a woman’s heels clogged in the mud and came up with a new surface idea.

Trump was on a rampage of renovations and remodeling in and around the White House – from a golden overhaul of an oval office to tearing the grass in his rose garden to pave it with white stones. He also plans to add a 90,000 square feet of ballroom to the East Wing.

There is no word on whether the crimes solving Sparee were the ones that protected the president from Tuesday, when he hosted the three-hour marathon cabinet meeting, and when he finally appeared to play golf.
