“This is a very unique and special property,” Mandy Wellgos, a broker associate who is the property’s listing agent, told the local outlet. “There’s no such thing in Aspen.”

The most expensive homes in the United States are officially on the market, and anyone who buys a whopping $300 million can cost them.

The 74.1 acre property, over 27,000 square feet, is located at 161 Stillwater Drive in Aspen, Colorado, and includes 18 bedrooms, 20 full bathrooms and four partial bathrooms, according to Sotheby’s International Realty listings.

According to the Aspen Times, the property was built in 1994. According to the Aspen Times, the house was built by California billionaires Stewart and Linda Lesnick.

According to Pitkin County property records reviewed by USA Today, great companies are listed as residential owners.

Sotheby’s lists Little Lake Lodge as the most expensive home in the United States, with property in Long Lake, New York at a price tag of $255 million.

Here are some things you need to know about detached homes, including the annual property taxes paid by the final new owner.

Where is Little Lake Lodge?

According to the home list, it “along with public lands, but downtown Aspen is a few miles away.” The residence is also located by a “pristine, private lake” that “also situated in thoughtfully chosen native landscaping and preserved wild plants.”

“Given the exceptional scale with four lands, Little Lake Lodge represents an opportunity to establish a lasting legacy of luxury and harmony with the majestic natural environment.

Mandy Welgos, the Sotheby’s International Realty Broker Associate who is the listing agent for the property, told The Aspen Times that the high asking price is attributed to the home’s many features, including the four parcels of land, its proximity to downtown Aspen, the private six-acre lake it sits beside, its privacy, 45 parking spaces and the trail system near it that is “built for hiking, cross country skiing, and biking.”

Wellgoth added that the home is on sale earlier this month and there are currently several stakeholders. Despite the high value of the home, she told the outlet that the house may continue to be highly valued by its new owner, particularly due to the restrictions on the size of the home allowed in Pitkin County.

In November 2023, Pitkin County commissioners completed new rules to reduce the size of their largest homes from 15,000 to 9,250 square feet, reported Aspen Daily News. When Little Lake Lodge was built in 1994, a report by Broker Tim Estin at Aspen Snowmass Sotheby found that homes with more than 15,000 square feet of livable space had to be given special reviews.

“This is a very unique and special property,” she said. “There’s no such thing in Aspen.”

To date, Aspen’s highest single-family home sales were $108 million in 2024, which was also the highest home sales in Colorado at the time, the Aspen Times reported. This record will remain until Resnick’s property sells.

USA Today has contacted Welgos multiple times, but as of Saturday, August 30th, they have not received a response.

What is the property tax for a $300 million home?

The home list says new homeowners’ estimated annual property tax will be around $131,755.

According to Avant Garde Aspen, a real estate company in the area, Pitkin County’s property tax rate is approximately 0.3%-0.5% of the property valuation. For example, the $10 million home in Aspen has a property tax bill of between $30,000 and $50,000 a year, the company added.

Forecasters Beware of potential tropical storms in the Atlantic Ocean

Don’t watch now or ruin Labor Day weekend. But next week, another tropical system is worth seeing as it crosses the Atlantic.

The National Hurricane Centre is monitoring tropical waves expected to travel from Africa’s coast on August 31st. After moving into the Atlantic, environmental conditions in this area may support the slow development of tropical storms as the waves move westward.

If a name storm forms, it will become the seventh tropical storm of the season. According to the official list of names for the 2025 season, the next name is Gabriel.

The Center’s outlook map shows a 30% chance of the formation of a tropical system within seven days along the path extending between the Cabo Verde Islands and the middle of the tropical Atlantic Ocean.

The timing and location of the waves moving westward northwest is consistent with the long-term outlook from the National Marine and Atmospheric Administration Centre for Climate Prediction, which has shown an increased likelihood of storm formation in the region between September 3rd and 9th. Caribbean Sea.

Over the 30 years from 1991 to 2020, the seventh storm of the season will form on average by September 3rd.

Erin was the only hurricane so far this season, but the second hurricane usually formed by August 26th. The rough surf and rift flows, stirred in high winds and large sizes, are criticized for the deaths of two swimmers in New Hampshire and one Long Island. A 50-something boat that capsized from the Massachusetts coast on August 25th saw a boater in his 50s disappear.

The seasonal outlook for the 2025 season from NOAA and others predicts that it will be busier than the regular season, and predictors say they still expect it.

The annual hurricane season in the Atlantic usually peaks on September 10th, but 13 of last year’s nominated storms formed since September 9th, including Hurricane Helen and Hurricane Milton, will reach. The Atlantic season officially begins on June 1st and continues until the end of November.

How do hurricanes form?

Hurricanes originate in the tropical regions above warm waters. Thunderstorm clusters can develop across the ocean when water temperatures exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit. If conditions are correct, clusters are swirling into tropical waves and storms known as tropical depression.

Tropical depression becomes a named tropical storm when its sustained wind speed reaches 39 mph. When the wind reaches 74 mph, the storm officially becomes a hurricane.

Get ready for a hurricane now

Delaying preparations to potentially save lives could mean waiting until it’s too late. “Get disaster supply while the shelves are still in stock and flood insurance requires a 30-day waiting period, so get that insurance inspection early,” the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recommends.

  • Establish an evacuation plan. If you are at risk from a hurricane, you will need an evacuation plan. Now is the time to plan where you will go and how you will get there.
  • Assemble disaster supply. Whether you’re evacuated or not, you’ll need supplies not only to get through the storm, but perhaps for the long aftermath, NOAA said.
  • Get an insurance inspection and document your property. Contact your insurance company or agent now to ask for an insurance inspection to make sure you have enough insurance to repair or replace your home or belongings. Remember that housing and tenant insurance doesn’t cover floods, so you’ll need individual insurance for them. Flood insurance is available through your company, agent, or through your national flood insurance program. Flood insurance requires a 30-day waiting period, so take action now.
  • Create a family communication plan. NOAA says you should take the time to write down your hurricane plans and share them with your family. Determine where family gatherings are to be met and include out-of-town locations in case of evacuation.
  • It strengthens your home. Now is the time to improve the home’s ability to withstand hurricanes. Trim the wood and attach the storm shutter, accordion shutter and impact glass. Seal the wall opening.

  • Yemeni Prime Minister Hoothi and other ministers were reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike in Sanaa.
  • Israel identified senior Hooty officials targeting the strike, but did not confirm all the victims.
  • Since the 2023 Gaza War, Houthis has been in solidarity with the Palestinians to increase attacks on Red Sea vessels and missile launches on Israel.

Aug 30 (Reuters) – Yemeni government prime minister Hoothi and several other ministers have been killed in an Israeli strike in the capital Sanaa, the group’s communications agency run by the group said on Saturday, citing a statement by the chief of Madi al-Mashath.

Many others were injured on Thursday’s strike without providing details.

Israel said Friday that the airstrikes targeted the group’s chief of staff, defense minister and other senior officials alongside Iran, confirming the results.

Mashat’s statement did not clarify whether Defense Minister Hooty was one of the victims.

The Houthi-Run news agency issued a statement from the defense minister shortly after confirming the prime minister’s death, citing that the group said it was ready to stand up to Israel.

The statement did not mention Thursday’s airstrikes, and it was unclear whether it was taken before or after the attack.

Ahmad Ghaleb Al-Rahwi became prime minister almost a year ago, but the de facto leader of the government was his agent, Mohamed Moftah, assigned on Saturday to carry out the duties of Prime Minister.

Rawi was primarily seen as a figure not part of the inner circle of Hooty leaders.

Defense Minister Mohamed Al-Atifi runs the Houthi missile brigade group and is considered a major missile expert.

The Israeli military said the fighter plane had hit a complex in the Sanaa area, where senior Hooty figures were gathered, describing the attack as “complex operations” made possible by intelligence gathering and the superiority of air.

On Thursday, Israeli security sources said the Target was a variety of places where many senior Hooti officials gathered to watch the aired speeches recorded by leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi.

As Israel’s war in Gaza against Palestinian extremist groups began in October 2023, the Houtis lined up in Iran attacked ships in the Red Sea, which they described as an act of solidarity with the Palestinians.

They also frequently fire missiles at Israel, most of which are intercepted. Israel responded with a strike over Yemen’s Hooti controlled area, including the important Hodeida port.

Last year, Israel carried out a series of assassinations of Hamas and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah, which had significantly weakened the two groups.

“We remain immovable in our true position to support and position with the people of Gaza and to build and develop the capabilities of our military, facing all the challenges and dangers,” said a statement by Mahdi al-Mashat.

Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayne appears to have picked up the first down on fourth and one when he felt Max Claire was open in the middle of the field, but Purdue’s tight end transfer can’t hold the ball. An expensive drop by Klare will allow Texas and Arch to undo the ball on their 49-yard line.

Both teams make a big appearance early in this.

Don’t trick me once and don’t fool me twice – is that so?

Whether that catchphrase is correct or not, Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia dials pressure for fourth and second, stopping the Buckeyes defense to Texas drive CJ Baxter back on the line for a one-yard profit. They returned the big bounce from Ohio State as they failed to score the previous fourth downs top.

The Buckeyes will take over their own 42-yard line.

Officials give Texas the first down with quarterback sneaks in fourth and one. A brave call from Steve Sarkisian calls to go early in the game, especially as the Longhorn is still on the side of the field. Arch Manning’s running ability could be a key component of Longhorns’ offense that day.

The first attempt at passing from Archmanning that day is incomplete as it does not lead to Michael Toffee on the right side of the field. The second and ten are approaching for the Longhorns.

The Buckeyes get a toss and postponed it to the second half. So, that’s where Archmanning and Texas attacks come first. Ongoing in Columbus!

The final headgear pick of Lee Corso’s illustrious career at “College Gemedai” goes to others outside of Ohio when he wears Brutus Buckeye headgear in the middle in front of everyone inside Ohio Stadium.

Pockettino was also caught catching up to Matthew McConaughey, a Texas fan known for the field inside the stadium.

“Minister of Culture” Matthew McConaughey is in Columbus to watch his Texas Longhorns take him to Ohio. Fox’s broadcast cameras caught the Texas alumnus sharing a moment on the Ohio Stadium field with former Longhorns coach Mac Brown.

Brown went 1-1 with Ohio State when he was in Texas. A victory came at Ohio Stadium in 2005, with the Longhorns defense plundering Ohio State quarterback Troismith in the Buckeyes’ end zone, sealing the victory.

In his six seasons as a full-time coach for the Buckeyes, Ryan Day is 2-3 against the SEC team. The 46-year-old coach joined the unwinning and SEC teams of Matchup vs Tennessee State in the first round of CFP last year.

  • Monterey Car Week is held every August in Monterey, California.
  • This car event features one of the world’s most expensive car auctions.
  • Not everything sold at Monterey auctions have a chin drop price.

Monterey Car Week is an event where some of the world’s most expensive vehicles are sold at auction.

This year, the last Ferrari SP3 Daytona to be built, sold for $26 million. Sales like this are something everyone pays attention to during Monterey Car Week, but what about the cheapest cars sold during these auctions? Surprisingly, this auction sells cars that regular people may be able to buy, but they are not your regular grocery getters or mall crawlers.

Harrington Cobra Junior Car – $21,000

This little car is called a junior car. These types of vehicles are made for children to drive, reducing the version of the original model. Not only is the vehicle body scaled, but the engine and price also reduced.

This car is a small version of the Shelby Cobra. It has a one-cylinder engine and can reach a top speed of 40 mph.

F Racer Junior – $24,000

There was a Ferrari F40 sold in Monterey for $3.8 million. If it happens to be out of your budget, this F-Racer junior can save you some money. You can’t reach 200 mph, but it’s a cool way to pay homage to the legendary Ferrari. If you take your time, this fake F40 could be driven by more miles than the real thing.

1974 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV – $28,000

This Alfa Romeo may be small, but at least it’s a real car. This GTV is performance oriented as it features a full roll cage, moroso ignition and an ATL safety fuel cell. Italian flag coloring adds character and styling to your car.

Harrington Spider Junior Car – $31,200

This Spider Junior Car from Harrington is modeled after the Shelby 289 Cobra. Bright red paint will definitely draw attention to this to make it a spin.

Harrington Daytona Junior Car – $32,400

Another junior car in Harrington. This is modeled after the Ferrari GTB/4 365 Daytona Spider. 365 Daytona also urged the latest V12 Ferrari to be released.

Porsche 936 Junior – $33.600

Unlike other junior cars sold in Monterey, this Porsche 936 Junior was built by the manufacturer that actually made the real car. This junior vehicle was built to honor the original 936, which won 24 hours of Le Mans in 1981. Only 100 of these models were constructed.

1964 Fiat 500 D Convertible – $33.600

This Fiat may be the same size as a junior car, but that’s a real deal. Based on the 500 Nuova, this car features a removable extended roof, similar to the soft Targa top. The vehicle has been completely restored and is actually showing off the Verde Acquamarina Paint.

1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider by Pinin Farina- $39,200

This classic Alfa Romeo was designed by legendary Italian coach builder Pininfarina. The original owner of the vehicle used it primarily as a race car, and SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) confirmed that three racing logbooks were completed.

1965 Volvo PV 544 Sports – $44,800

The Volvo was the first attempt at a unibody chassis by a Swedish automaker. Material shortages during World War II required Volvo to build smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles, which led to the creation of the PV 544. The Sport Trim Level adds a slightly larger engine and more power, along with Hunter’s green paint and interior.

1964 Studebaker Next R2- $47.600

The stylist who hired the team to build this vehicle is nothing but Raymond Lowey, the creator of the 1955 redesigned Coca-Cola bottle. This Avanti has a V8 engine with a difference between an R2 supercharger, power steering, silent muffler, floor-shift automatic transmission and twin traction. In the year of the final model in 1964, only 809 examples were built, and only 281 were overcharged with the R2 variant.

Bold predictions for college football in Notre Dame, Alabama in Week 1

i’m back. The first full college football weekend of the season brings joy and fills the void for fans who have been waiting for more than seven months to return to the sport they love.

The tricky part of the start of the season is trying to sort out what happens during Opening Week. With departures to the NFL, incoming calls by forwarding probers, and coaching changes, there’s a lot to sort out and surprises when teams join the field on Saturday. But where do they happen?

That’s why the USA Today Sports College Football Staff is here. Matt Hayes, Jordan Mendoza, Paul Meyerberg, Eric Smith, Eddie Timanus and Blake Topmeyer weigh in with bold predictions for the first week of the college football season.

With Taylor Swift officially out of the market, ESPN moves to North Carolina coach Bill Belichick’s girlfriend/Muse Jordon Hudson as a new obsession. Standalone, less during Monday night primetime games. Ah, TCU wins the game. – Matt Hayes

TCU ruins Bill Belichick’s North Carolina debut

Despite all the weird offseason attention, there is a lot of hype about what North Kaorina can be with the Bilberic Chick genius. It is an electric first game that will be in the spotlight on Labor Day, and can drive Tar Heels to a statement victory. But there’s a dangerous TCU team led by quarterback Josh Hoover coming to town. He knows how to play big, and there are a lot of them on Monday nights. TCU finds themselves in another trap where they play a highly anticipated coach against a team that debuts. Horned frogs will never flop again. We began to lose the Belichick era in Chapel Hill. – Jordan Mendoza

ACC bends muscles against LSU, Notre Dame

ACC stretches muscles with two famous victories. Clemson defeated LSU to set the title run tone, while Miami disrupts Notre Dame behind a strong debut from quarterback Carson Beck. The showdown in Columbus will dominate the headlines that come out from week one, but notching these victories over key competition will increase the credibility of the ACC and play a major role in where league representatives land in playoff races. – Paul Meyerberg

When writing early upsetting recipes for college football season, all the elements are in Florida. The Seminoles are easily overlooked by Alabama players after a two-win season. Meanwhile, Crimson Tide plays in an adversarial environment, with the quarterback getting his first start. This will be formed as a four-quarter defensive struggle, so be amazed if Alabama is fighting to avoid shocking losses. – Eric Smith

The Ghost of Pac-12 is revived in Utah, UCLA Clash

#PAC12AfterDark’s spirit lives on Saturday night when former meetings made UCLA and Utah foes at the Rose Bowl (11pm ET, FOX). When they last met in 2022, the Bruins snapped a seven-game losing streak against UTES in a 42-32 shootout. Both teams transfer QBs so the score may not be that high this time, but it’s definitely worth a bit of sleep. – Eddie Timanus

FEMA will extend employment freezes until 2025 as hurricane season approaches

0

WASHINGTON, Aug. 29 (Reuters) – As the peak of the hurricane season approaches, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended its job freeze until at least the end of this year, according to three sources familiar with the issue.

The Trump administration froze government-wide hiring until October 15th with the exception of public safety employees and several other categories. According to sources, FEMA is expanding its freeze.

A FEMA spokesperson said in a statement that the Department of Homeland Security is “working to ensure that FEMA delivers to the American people.” The spokesman did not answer questions about the employment freeze. The agency is supervised by the Department of Homeland Security.

News about the freeze reduced agents the same week that three dozen former and current FEMA employees signed an open letter of objection to agency leaders. The letter, sent by a mix of former political appointees and permanent staff, said the lack of experience among top Trump administration appointees could lead to catastrophes at the level of Hurricane Katrina.

This week marks the 20th anniversary of the storm that has devastated Gulf towns.

The Trump administration has named staff in letters on vacation.

Trump said in June that he plans to phase out FEMA after the 2025 hurricane season. The peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is September 10th.

The end of FEMA means a major change for millions of Americans who rely on agencies after hurricanes, wildfires, floods, tornadoes and other natural disasters each year. FEMA sends billions of dollars to the state each year to evacuate those who have lost their homes, distributed food and rebuilt damaged buildings.

Since President Donald Trump took office, several senior officials have left the agency and raised concerns about whether FEMA will be equipped to deal with major disasters. In May, then-manager of FEMA Cameron Hamilton was suddenly fired and replaced by David Richardson, a DHS employee with no experience in managing natural disaster responses. In an early meeting with staff, Richardson vowed to “run” employees who resisted reform.

When will you receive your check?

Social Security payments in September will follow the normal schedule. However, beneficiaries who were previously overpaid by the Social Security Administration may need to take action to avoid smaller benefits checks.

In April, the Social Security Agency (SSA) announced that it would withhold 50% of recipients’ monthly checks to compensate for past overpayments issued. The agency began issuing overpayment notices on April 25, 2025, and began withholding 50% of recipient benefits after about 90 days (or about July 24, or about July 24) until the overpayment is repaid.

Anyone who has been notified of overpayment for these 90 days can ask the SSA to reconsider, waive, or change the repayment rate.

Social Security Overpayment: How many issues are there?

If the SSA miscalculates a person’s benefit or if the beneficiary fails to update the change in income, an overpayment may occur.

According to a report from the Social Security Office’s Inspector’s Office issued in August 2024, Social Security paid nearly $72 billion in inappropriate payments between 2015 and 2022, which consisted of overpayments.

Inappropriate payments accounted for less than 1% of the nearly $8.6 trillion benefits paid over those eight years. As of September 2023, the agency had $23 billion of unrecovered overpayments, according to the report.

Social Security Payment Schedule for September

Social Security benefits are paid primarily to older or retired recipients, but are usually paid on Wednesdays. According to the Social Security Agency calendar, people whose birthdays fall on the second Wednesday of the month (this month, September 10th) between the first and tenth day of the month of birth.

Sabrina Carpenter’s new album captures the hell of our date

0

These songs giggle me when I check out my friend’s locations and I check out my friend’s locations to see that they’re not named. I have no choice! Maybe she’ll come to her senses one day.

play

If you are a girl who has the courage to the current dating landscape, you probably know well that it’s difficult for a good man to come. I was there. Well…not so, but I was a shoulder and pseudo therapist for my girlfriend who is emotionally malicious towards many men.

Through text and audio notes, and alcohol-induced gossip sessions, I listened to them and documented the fiery early charm, the traumatic whiplash of the situation, and its frustrating disbandment. I have no choice! When she’s ready to dust herself off and hand it over again, I’ll be there to support her!

Sabrina Carpenter has her new tips for catchy country pop hooks about this painful and universal experience with her latest album, Man’s Best Friend. Her previous effort, “Short N’Sweet,” is about the highs and lows of modern dating, “Man’s Best Friend,” and “Man’s Best Friend,” after all, is better off enjoying the boys before she becomes a boy and drives her into total insanity.

Why are you so stupid, why are you so sexy?

In the lead single “Manchild”, Carpenter aims for immature men, but is not drawn to them. “Why are you so stupid, why are you so sexy?” she asks a long-awaited question. “I like boys playing hard / And I like how my guys are all incompetent.” At least she’s honest!

She keeps her standards as low as the sparkly, nudisco hit “tears.” “By a little respecting a woman, you can respect you very far / Remembering how you use your phone (aaah), ah, it’s so hot,” she sings in the second verse. I think it’s better to lower your expectations than lower your expectations.

As I observed my friend’s adventures on a date, I left them emotionally exhausted and I witnessed a permanently confused push and feather. You were in his bed last night, are you not talking now? You just told me you were with him. Why are you at Costco together? How does it work? That’s a phenomenon. Carpenter tries to understand the slightest thing: “My man with Willpower.”

Carpenter must double as a hacker. Because the lyrics to “We Were Nearly Broken Again Last Night” were torn directly from my text message, and my friend showed me how sex rekindled the dull flames. These songs laugh at me, remembering all the time I checked out my friend’s locations. All I can do is sigh. Maybe she’ll come to her senses one day.

At some point, you have to say “Goodbye.”

“Man’s Best Friend” fades away when buried in the production of a country filled with despicable sexual lyrics. Unfortunately, Carpenter’s humor sometimes loses its edge. But the same is true of relationships that are damaged by indecision.

A relationship as unstable as a carpenter and my friends finds themselves unable to last forever. “Goodbye” on the album Closer records a farewell. In her newsletter, Carpenter states, “Not every ending is negative, and maybe it’s just the beginning of something better.” Maybe it’s us all hope to be better for ourselves when it comes to love.

Are you thinking about buying an EV? Trump’s new bill could cost you thousands

0

Trump strips off the training wheels of Georgia’s EV industry and is forced to ride his own bike and builds it.

play

  • One big beautiful bill law ends the federal tax credits for electric vehicles and related battery manufacturing, affecting the growing EV market.
  • The removal of bill’s incentives is expected to slow the growth of EV sales and increase manufacturers’ discounts and reliance on trades.
  • Building a domestic battery supply chain and expanding the charging infrastructure are key challenges for the future of the EV industry.

“He knows he’ll give me a discount,” said President Donald Trump’s moment before purchasing a $80,000 Red Tesla from Elon Musk on the White House lawn on March 11th. “But I want to pay in full.”

And the entire price he ordered is something everyone pays. Trump’s one big beautiful bill law enacted on July 4th will end the federal tax credits for electric vehicles (EVs) and the 2030 tax credits for American battery manufacturers by the end of September.

According to the research group’s Atlas Public Policy, more clean energy projects were cancelled in the first quarter of 2025 than in the past two years. Since January, these cancellations and small projects have reached about $14 billion in abandoned investments, including a $1 billion factory planned to produce thermal barriers for batteries in Stateboro, Georgia.

Industry leaders are reluctant to show signs of defeat when it comes to what these set-offs mean for states that have deployed billions of dollars worth of red carpets in tax cuts at EV manufacturing plants, aimed at becoming the “electric vehicle capital” estimated by the end of the second term, as Brian Kemp.

This month, Georgia’s EV press conference and roadshows found civil servants and manufacturers aside the Washington set-off and boasted the growth of the industry.

“The tax credit served its purpose, but it may have ended,” Georgia Public Services Commissioner Tim Echoles said in an interview. “We may not need subsidies in the future.”

However, Georgia’s EV independence will depend on the success of bringing moving parts closer to the home.

“We must develop a critical mineral supply chain in America,” said Skye Golann, nonprofit electrification coalition policy manager, in the way EV Investments is driving Georgia’s prosperity.

One big beautiful bill law expected to slow EV growth

The Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), passed in August 2022, provided tax credits, subsidies and incentives for the purchase and manufacture of EVs and their charging facilities.

Since then, a 2024 report from the Rhodium Group and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has grown at least three times more investments in batteries, fuel supply and critical mineral refining and processing.

Many of Georgia’s plants are supported by federal aid. In 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy granted $178 million for the construction of Solvay Specialty Polymers battery-grade polyfluoride facility in Augusta. Last year, DOE awarded Fort Valley-based Blue Bird $80 million for the production of electrical school buses and workforce development.

And it appears that Georgia played the right hand.

“The past few years will be “there’s the arrival of “EV purchases” in the US,” said Cox Automotive Director of Industry Insights Stephanie Streaty. Last year was “a record year of 1.3 million eV,” she added.

EVS says EVS is cheaper than ever. Hosted at Savanna Technical College on August 12, the Georgia Clean Energy Roadshow featured more than 60 vehicles, including one of Savanna’s Nissan Leafs, starting at around $30,000. When Echols first launched its roadshow 15 years ago, only the Tesla Roadster was on display, but at the time it was worth over $100,000.

But one big beautiful bill law removes incentives that have lowered EV prices already too high for many consumers. According to Cox Automotive Data, average EV transactions were $10,000 more this year than gas vehicles.

“The biggest barrier is still price,” Streaty said.

Before one big beautiful bill law was passed, Cox Automotive predicted that the EVS would account for 10% of all cars sold in 2025, up 2% from last year. But now, “You have tariffs, you have interest rates, you have all these headwinds, you have adjusted that to 8.5%,” Streaty says.

“If we take away the federal tax credit, we’ll attenuate some of the growth,” Golann said in an interview. “I certainly think one big beautiful bill law is a setback for EVs.”

Battery boom…or bust

But the biggest bet for EV stakeholders is probably the battery itself.

Lithium-ion batteries are notoriously expensive to mine, process and transport, and can account for 40% of the cost of a car, Streaty said. China still controls the mineral processing of batteries, Golan admitted in an interview. But “We’ve seen new mines, whether in North Carolina or Nevada… What we want to see is developing those supply chains in the US,” according to the World Economic Forum, where only 1% of the world’s lithium reserves live.

General Motors has already begun building American businesses, including Georgia. On August 6th, GM announced plans to jointly manufacture six EV models with Hyundai, including electric vans for the North American market. A day later, a Chinese battery that “acts as a stop” can now “act as a stop,” according to Detroit Free Press, part of the USA Today Network.

Approximately half of KIA’s EV and gas vehicle production remains overseas, said Ted Arnold, Corporate Services and Information Technology, Kia’s division. However, Kia’s parent company Hyundai is in the process of “bringing these suppliers locally so they don’t have to import them,” he added.

“We’re definitely going to see a battery supply chain starting to be built in the US,” Streaty repeated.

But time is inscribed before one big beautiful bill law ends a 45x tax credit for US battery manufacturers in five years. This is a move to transfer growth to other countries, including China, Mexico, Canada and members of the European Union, according to think tank Energy Innovation.

And many of Georgia’s battery manufacturing outlook have already abandoned the ship earlier this year.

In January, Norway-based Freyer Battery was called from a battery manufacturing plant in Newnan and said in a letter to Coweta County. In February, Aspen Arogels told investors it would halt construction of a second plant-making heat barrier for Stateboro’s EV batteries and instead increase production in China, Latitichuch Media reported. In March, Josemónhos, president of Metaplant America of Hyundai Motor Group, announced an expansion focused on hybrid vehicles with spectacular openings. This is a shift from the expected all-electric work.

This year may be the start of a bad run, but many EV supporters like Streaty are still all-in and are hoping to take advantage of the tax credit before the manufacturer ends.

“IRA 45X Reduction Credit will not be sunset until 2030, so I think it’s a faint light of light,” Streaty says.

Manufacturers respond to Trump’s actions… Their own contract art

If EV makers plant more solid manufacturing in American soil, the roads will be longer.

Golann said that growth in supply chains across the country and state will “take some time.” And in the meantime, the manufacturers themselves will have to push forward their own transactions to make up for today’s price differences. Trump can smell EV discounts, but the average consumer may depend on it.

“Now that we don’t have an IRA, the dealers are really aggressive,” Streaty said. Expect more rebates, trades and discounts. The manufacturers “have already spent money on building assembly lines and factories,” Echoles said.

But at one point, the EV “must be able to sell it yourself,” Streaty said.

Parby, former Ukrainian Parliament Speaker, was assassinated in LVIV

  • Former Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Andry Parbyy was shot dead in Lviv.
  • A manhunt is underway for a gunman who fled the scene.
  • Parubiy was a key figure in the 2013-14 Euromaidan protest and held a key security position.
  • Ukrainian officials are investigating the murder, but the motive has not been publicly identified.

Kiev, Aug 30 (Reuters) – Former Ukraine parliament president Andry Parby was shot dead in Lviv, Western city on Saturday, and a search for the murderer was underway.

Prosecutors say the gunman fired several shots at Parviy and killed him on the spot. The attackers fled and said the Manhunt was launched.

Parubiy, 54, is a member of Parliament and served as Speaker of Parliament from April to August 2016, and was one of the leaders of the protests in 2013-14 for close ties with the European Union.

He was also the Executive Director of the Ukraine National Security and Defense Council from February to August 2014, and was the period of battles beginning in eastern Ukraine and Russia, annexing the Crimea Peninsula.

Officials did not immediately indicate whether the murders were directly related to Russian war in Ukraine.

“Internal Minister Ihor Klymenko and prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko have just reported on the first known situation of the horrifying murder at Lviv. Andriy Parubiy,” President Volodymyr Zelenskiy wrote about X.

He sent the apologies to Parvii’s family and loved ones, adding that “all the necessary forces and means are engaged in the investigation and searching for the murderer.”

National police said the shooting at LVIV was reported around noon (0900 GMT). Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said it is most important to find the murderer and establish the situation of the attack.

“This is a matter of security in the country during war, and there is no place completely safe, as we can see,” he wrote in the telegram.

The tribute will be poured

The tribute poured out by council and government colleagues praised Parby’s contribution to the Ukrainian battle for sovereignty and independence as one of the leaders of what became known as the Euromaidan protest in 2013-14.

Former President Petro Poroshenko told Telegram that the killing of Parby, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Report, was “shots fired in the heart of Ukraine.”

“Andri was a great man and a real friend. So they do revenge. That’s what they fear,” he said.

In a statement on Telegram, Foreign Minister Andri Sibikha described Parby as “a patriot and politician who has made a significant contribution to the defense of Ukraine’s freedom, independence and sovereignty.

Ukrainian law enforcement agencies did not provide information regarding the identity or motive of the killer.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Swillidenko called for a quick investigation into the murders, calling it the country’s “deep loss.”

“You have always been a Ukrainian patriot and have made a great contribution to the formation of our nation,” she wrote in X.

How can a cowboy replace the star edge rush?

0

play

  • The Cowboys’ defense is facing radical change in the wake of Mika Parsons’ trade.
  • Jerry and Stephen Jones highlight improvements in the run defense, but the pass rush, counted in Parsons’ disruption, faces a lot of uncertainty.
  • Dante Fowler Jr. may otherwise have to do a lot of heavy lifting for a unit that features several proven products on the edge.

When he began clicking on Donovan Ezellac at training camp, the Dallas Cowboys rookie sparked a race against his fellow pass rushes.

“We had just had a two minute period, and the first thing Dante (Fowler Jr.) told me was, “I’ll go back there (in the backfield) and see you,” Ezellack said in late July. “I said, ‘No, I’m going to get there first.’ And the first play, I got back there and asked, ‘Where are you?’ ”

A month later, the Cowboys now rely on Ozilak, Fowler and many others to host courtrooms in the opposition backfield.

On Thursday, Dallas agreed to trade two All-Pro Edge Rusher Micah Parsons for the Green Bay Packers in exchange for two first round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. The move served as an incredible solution to the escalating friction between the league’s most skilled young defensive star and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

However, regardless of what led to the split, Jones argued that his team was driven by the belief that his team could improve both quickly and in the future. Dallas now has to readjust the pass rush that is not fired by Parsons. And within a week the season opener against the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles has little time to sort things out.

Here’s how the Cowboys move forward this season and beyond.

Where will the Cowboys go next in 2025 after Mika Parsons trade?

Parsons’ replicas are non-starters in terms of generating bags and pressure from singular sources.

Parsons recorded 52½ bags in four seasons in Dallas. Five defensive ends on the active roster – Ezellac, Fowler, Marshawn Neeland, Sam Williams and James Houston have paired 73 bags in their careers. Last year’s defense ranked second mostly at 9.22% thanks to Parsons, who had twice the sacks of other players and created both a cleanup opportunity and a lucrative look for others who paid the attention he requested.

But by changing the story along the defence that runs through former coach Mike McCarthy’s previous playoff facelines and the ultimate disappointment of the 7-10 season, Jones and his son Stephen seem to show that the unit is shifting focus rather than trying to replicate what they once had.

“In addition to depth, I feel we can also develop pressure,” Stephen Jones said at a press conference Thursday evening. “I think (defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus) was really good at it in terms of using schemes to put pressure on the quarterbacks. But the scheme runs on is stopping.”

Jerry Jones also kept the possibility that the team “get someone now” using one of the four first round draft picks in the next two years. However, between the lack of top pass rushes normally available in the market and the high cost associated with regular acquisition players, Dallas probably doesn’t have a significant addition to calendar years.

And that means wrapping pass rushes in the tally.

Fowler may have to take charge of much of the early load. The 10th year veteran enjoyed an astounding 2024 breakout that included a 10½ bag, with an eighth place pass rush victory putting him among the league’s elite. But working as a main attraction is a sudden challenge for a 31-year-old, with the player behind him being barely proven.

Apparently trying to hold onto the other starting spots, Kneeland didn’t record the bag as a rookie in 11 games. At 6-3, with a 275-pound robbery, the three-round pick is built to set the edge and overwhelming blocker in his bull rush, but at this point there isn’t much in his game. Williams remains a wildcard after everything lost multiple torn knee ligaments last season, but his pre-injured burst and fluidity made him an appetizing prospect. Houston went on to the roster location with promising camp and preseason performances. And Ezeiruaku, a second-round pick that ranked second in the Soccer Bowl plot in 2024 with a 16½ bag, may be called to provide sparks earlier than expected.

Cowboys 2026 Free Agency Options

At this point, the 2026 free agency class looks particularly promising at edge rushers. But don’t think it’ll just stay that way.

Pro Bowler Nick Bonit looks like a virtual rock to stay with the Denver Broncos, but the Miami Dolphins wouldn’t want to let go of Gellan Phillips as long as the first round of 2021 picks stay healthy. While Trey Hendrickson appears to be heading for a much-anticipated split from the Cincinnati Bengals and a trip to the open market, Jones will almost certainly reserve the best money on the market to a sack artist, nearly five years old than Parsons. And while the Seattle Seahawks Boymuff and the Baltimore Ravens Oda Feowe have managed to price themselves out of the current team’s plans, Jones is happy to surf the waves of smaller free agency rather than making a big splash with the marquee name.

Cowboys’ 2026 draft options

If the Cowboys draft another edge rush after using three second picks in positions over the past four years, it makes sense for the team to target the type of high-end difference maker where Parsons is not gone.

Eight months after the 2026 draft, the class has no clear, elite destroyers in the mold of fellow Pennsylvania Parsons or Abdul Carter, who came third in the New York Giants in April. However, there are still a lot of changes to play throughout the season.

Here are seven draft prospects that could be interesting for the Cowboys if their teams set their sights on a potential Parsons alternative.

1. Keldric Folk, Auburn

At 6-6 pounds and 285 pounds, he is a photo of what the Cowboys are potentially looking for a new era of defence. Throwing the blocker aside, he can be a source of the run game and helps him set the tone ahead of time from day one. His seven bags for 2024 believe in the overall pass rush ability that still needs refinement. But the super-large, heavy-duty edge rush is trending, and forks are like the kind of projects that cowboys and other teams want to take on.

2. TJ Parker, Clemson

With 11 bags in 2024, 19½ tackles for losses and six forced fumbles, he is one of the more proven and promising edge rushes in this class. Parker may not be the overwhelming force that teammate Peter Woods follows the front, but his confusion over the pass is hard to match.

3. Overton, Alabama

Like Faulk, he fits the powerful flip threat bill that Dallas seems to be attracting to. The 6-5, 283 pound former five-star recruit is ongoing as a pass rush after notching only two bags last season, but he was able to thrive with the stunts, twists and slants that Everfurs loves to employ.

4. Friends from Mojo, Oregon

The 6-5, 272 pound defensive, known as “young concrete,” must be of interest to the Cowboys. Uiagaleray is one of the most powerful players in college football and continues to carry a sturdy pursuit that helps to wear blockers consistently.

5. RuebenBain Jr., Miami, Florida

After soft tissue damage hinders him as a sophomore, Bane is doing what he needs to do to reestablish himself as the best prospect. But if he can regain the form he displayed as a freshman, the 6-3, 275 pound power rush should stimulate a lot of interest as a potential early pick when he attacks the scene with 7½ bags and consistent pressure.

In the world of “trad wives” and “girl bosses”, some moms get lost

0

play

32-year-old Meghan Montelibano-Gorman had no idea what to do after giving birth to her first baby in 2021. She was always hardworking and never saw herself as a stay-at-home mother. However, she didn’t want to miss out on her son’s early milestones.

She said she felt she had to choose between two camps of women who were regularly blown up in film, politics and social media.

Four years later, after another baby, Monteribano Gorman said she recognizes how “completely naive and unforgettable” she is in the reality and nuances of motherhood. She wants to build her own path – it allows her to see the first first of all her babies, work part time and create an online parent community that goes against the typical “Momfluencer” trends.

“I was really consciously trying to change some kind of paradigm,” she said. “I can’t get it all, I know that, but I can almost have bits here and there.”

From working mothers who destroy cars after they have lost their children to wearing eyeliner and lipstick and baking bread from scratch, Tiktok’s maternal photos look overwhelmingly binary. However, while working mothers and wives stereotypes govern online and in popular culture, many moms fall between these two ratios. Still, the damage these images produce can last a long time, experts say.

The “fake binary” of motherhood distracts from the need to truly cherish the work of care, says Elissa Strauss, author of “When You Care,” writes about the politics and culture of parenting and caregiving. For some moms, it also limits what makes them comfortable sharing about their maternal experiences with other moms.

“I love raising children,” Strauss said. “But I feel like the second person who says it loudly, I’m a wife.”

While some moms have admitted that perfect images of maternal paintings on social media have performances, a study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research in 2023 found that “the fire of these idealized images” led mothers to criticise themselves, causing them to feel guilty and uneasy. There have been pushbacks in recent years as more moms on social media show parent-child disruption and compromise, but even so, past research suggests that moms looking for social media for guidance often feel uneasy.

“It puts us in a competitive position like women. Or there’s some sort of “right way” or “wrong way” to be a mother,” he said he is a marriage and family therapist and director of adult psychotherapy services at Northwestern University’s Family Institute.

And promoting the image of a motherly fairy tale “creates deep and true pain for the mother,” Strauss said, even if he knew what they were seeing was mere entertainment.

Motherhood is not just two aspects, Strauss said. “But somehow these are these categories that are being stabbed by women, and I think they are distorting the conversation and distorting the actual efforts to create real stability and mama support.”

Motherhood: “You’re just surviving.”

Lindsey Schubkegel, a 38-year-old mother from a suburb of Chicago, left her full-time Billings specialist when her son Levy was born in 2023.

“I don’t believe it,” Shubkegel said of those videos. Every time someone posts a photo or video and tries to show how “perfect” their lives are, she says that all she sees is a “giant red flag.”

Most days, Schubkegel said he doesn’t have time to make up or follow a strict schedule. Often she said, “You’re just surviving.”

Still, Schubkegel believes that there is a particle of truth in the girl’s boss/wife binary. Some women are more attracted to home life, she said.

Schubkegel said her own decision to leave the workforce would place her family in financial restraint. However, the cost of childcare that she said could have been $2,500 a month in her area was not worth the time she had to leave her son.

“To be honest, you feel like you have the crazy mom guilt about your job,” she said.

Monteribano Gorman said much of her identity was wrapped in work. She needs a lot of effort to help her repetitive life and unleash her social expectations of what kind of work should look like. She has worked part-time as a marketing consultant while raising two children, so she often tells clients that her children may make noises in the background.

She is happy and surprised to find her clients welcome her credibility.

Finding real connections is the best antidote, experts say

Montelibano-Gorman’s Instagram page is full of ideas about fun things a family can do in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she lives. Monteribano Gorman said her description was not about drawing morning routines or drawing everyday life. And it certainly isn’t about attacking different kinds of mothers on each other. It’s about sharing resources and building a community.

The dichotomy between “this and this” is really frustrating. Because we are all just struggling like women,” Monteribano Gorman said. “I think it’s difficult on any side, either side. There’s a challenge. And it’s just patriarchal and at the end of the day, you’re about to give birth to women, births, and each other.”

Schubkegel said her mom’s friends’ network runs the scope between home moms, single moms, working moms and other parents. She said they often leaned over each other, asked parenting questions and found support in each other’s stories.

“It really helps and you have a group of women who are experiencing the same thing as you in that moment,” she said.

According to Klear, what moms and all parents really need to thrive to thrive are parenting policies, access to high quality childcare, workplace flexibility and “more subtle spaces for what women can do.”

And when it comes to social media consumption, there are things moms can do to make them more connected and less competitive. Set a time limit and ask yourself, “What will you get now?” Clear said. Klear said he benefits from recipes from several content creator posts and finds good time management tips. Chima Hope-Lubin, marriage and family therapist at Betterhelp, agreed that setting time limits would be helpful. Finding a supportive community is important. If everything else fails, you’ll go offline.

It’s easy to get sucked into the influencer’s content fantasies, especially since many content creators have confirmed what many mothers want to hear.

Cassidy voted for RFK Jr.

0

Some health experts say Cassidy deserves the confusion of the CDC as a doctor who was worried about Kennedy’s vaccine views but voted to confirm him.

play

The disruption at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has sparked bipartisan concerns and has put the spotlight on key senators to ensure Kennedy has secured work.

CDC Director Susan Monares has been fired following a dispute with Kennedy over vaccination policy. After the end of Monares, on August 27th, CDC Chief Medical Officer Debra Houry and his top official in vaccination and infectious diseases followed by letters of resignation.

Sen. Bill Cassidy of R-Louisiana in a social media post on August 27, “We need supervision,” chaired by the Senate committee.

The shakeup comes after Kennedy was criticised for his mixed message about the measles outbreak, fired the vaccine advisory board and cut $500 million in funding for the development of mRNA technology used in the two most common Covid-19 vaccines. Cassidy spoke about some of Kennedy’s moves, including cutting funding for mRNA research.

Longtime vaccine skeptic Kennedy retracted the federal government’s recommendations on covid shots for pregnant women and healthy children, and followed up in June by removing all 17 members of the CDC’s expert vaccine panel.

In addition to calling for surveillance after the CDC shakeup, Cassidy said in a statement on August 28 that the agency’s Vaccine Advisory Committee should postpone its September 18 meeting indefinitely. Kennedy replaced members of the fired vaccine panel with hand-picked advisors, including fellow anti-vaccine activists.

“These decisions have a direct impact on the health of children and meetings should not be made until there is significant oversight,” Cassidy said.

Cassidy said “serious allegations” have been made about the panel’s “lack of membership and scientific process.”

“If the meeting proceeds, given the seriousness of the allegations in CDC leadership and the current confusion, any recommendations made should be rejected as lack of legitimacy,” he added.

However, some health experts believe Cassidy is worried about Kennedy’s views on the vaccine but deserves blame for what is happening as a doctor in an important leadership position who voted to confirm him anyway. So Cassidy needs to do more than surveillance, according to Dr. Thomas Farley, a former top public health official in New York City and Philadelphia.

“Now, Cassidy argued that he needs to fire Kennedy, “I think he’s baring his responsibility to stop Cassidy (Kennedy) from causing more damage.”

Cassidy’s office did not respond to requests for comment.

Cassizing vote

A longtime environmental lawyer, Kennedy has no educational background in medicine or healthcare. He ran for president as an independent in 2024, but dropped out of the race and supported Trump.

Antidepressants are linked to school shootings, in his most controversial statement that Wi-Fi has caused cancer, fluoride in public water systems has caused bone cancer and loss of IQ, and that Covid-19 has been “ethnically targeted” to attack “white and black people” and “ethnically targeted” to attack “Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese people.”

Cassidy was considered an important swing vote during the January confirmation process. Kennedy’s nomination was supported by Cassidy and advanced to the Senate Finance Committee 14-13.

“I’ve been struggling with your nomination,” Cassidy told Kennedy honestly during the confirmation process. “The 71-year-old man who spent decades criticizing vaccines… can he approach him by changing his attitude because he has the most important position to influence vaccine policy in the United States?”

The Louisiana Senators ultimately voted to advance Kennedy’s appointment to the committee, and joined with all Republicans other than Senator R-Kentucky, voted on the Senator’s floor to confirm Kennedy as Kennedy’s secretary.

In his floor speech, Cassidy said Kennedy and members of the Trump administration reached out to reassure him “about their commitment to protecting the public health benefits of vaccination,” and he received a “guarantee.” The senators also promised to be on guard.

“If Mr. Kennedy is confirmed, I will use my authority… I will refuse any attempt to remove public access to a life-saving vaccine without Ironclad. “We will take a close look at the efforts that will mistakenly soothe the public’s fears about vaccines.”

Cassidy’s role in the verification process is now resurfaced as Kennedy works to rebuild the CDC in ways many health professionals find surprising.

Some Kennedy critics have pointed their fingers at Cassidy for his confirmation vote.

“We could have prevented most of this by not checking one senator, RFK, Jr.. In my view, Cassidy is truly responsible as a doctor!” Dr. Douglas Henry, former executive vice president and CEO of the US Academy of Family Physicians, wrote on social media on August 28, in response to another doctor criticizing Kennedy after CDC’s resignation.

Farley believes Cassidy is under great political pressure to approve President Donald Trump’s HHS pick. He is re-election for Trump, a state that earned 22% points in 2026.

“He succumbed to that pressure, so it was a mistake that we could all suffer,” said Farley, who once worked for the CDC. “I hope he can understand how to fix that mistake now.”

Kennedy is in conflict with the CDC

Monares, who earned a PhD in Microbiology and previously worked at the Department of Homeland Security’s National Security Council and the White House, was expelled less than a month after the Senate confirmed her the role. Her lawyer said she was targeted because she “refused to shoot scientific and reckless instructions and dedicated medical professionals.”

Kennedy told Fox News that the CDC “we’re in trouble, so we need to fix it and we’re fixing it.”

“And maybe some people shouldn’t work there anymore,” he added.

For Kennedy’s critics, the past seven months have only confirmed his fitness reservations for the country’s top health jobs.

Democrats are calling for Kennedy to be fired amid the CDC turbulent.

Rep. Don Beyer of D-Virginia called Kennedy “crackpot conspiracy theory” and “cook” in an August 28 social media post, saying that if President Donald Trump doesn’t fire him, he will “be responsible for the resulting unnecessary and preventable illnesses and death.”

Teachers spend an incredible amount of school supplies. How much should you look at

0

Shana Danielson, a music teacher at Bermudian Springs Middle School near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, admits that she spent “silly amounts” of her money on artificial plants to turn her Cinderblock Wall classrooms into a cozy jungle. Her son donated many of the stuffed animals peeking out the leaves at students who were practicing.

She also loves to buy props that add pizza to band performances, including cutouts of penguins who were on stage when students performed “Penguin Promenade” from 2024-25.

“I feel embarrassed to admit that I spent like $50,” she said. “But you should have seen joy in their faces.”

Teachers like Danielson can spend hundreds of dollars from their pockets trying to make learning fun for their students. Other teachers may spend just as much on necessary school supplies, such as pencils and books, especially at low-income schools where families cannot afford to buy their materials. Some teachers also buy snacks in the classroom. They know that children need fuel to concentrate.

“Teachers not only expect students to fill in the gaps in which they can’t get their school supplies, but also expect them to buy pencils, notebooks and pens. These items are constantly replaced by them. Okañas spent three years as a teacher before switching careers.

From 2024-25, teachers spent an average of $884, totaling $33.5 billion on cleaning supplies, prizes, snacks, decorations, books, pens, paper, and hand sanitizers, prizes, snacks and decorations. In an adoption survey, teachers spent an average of $895 on supplying schools – an increase of 49% since 2015.

The teacher told USA Today Network that the amounts they spend vary. Other educators rely on local grants, donations, online wish lists through Amazon, and employ classrooms, donor selection and other platforms to stock classrooms.

One teacher near Seattle promoted the wish list of other teachers online, and Emmy Award-winning actress Kristen Bell noticed. Bell cleared a portion of his teacher wish list on Salastair’s website last year, and Bell recently gave him $25,000 to clear his teacher wish list ahead of the 2025-26 academic year.

“Every year, most teachers use their pay to make sure school is a happy and safe place for their children,” Bell wrote in an Instagram post on August 15th.

“I was shocked,” said Staircase of getting Bell’s attention for the first time. “I thought it was a fake at first.”

Stair enjoys helping fellow teachers get school supplies, but she said there are many other issues with education that puts a strain on teachers.

“I can’t necessarily make huge, systematic changes overnight, but hopefully it can bring awareness to people who don’t understand how much their teachers have to invest,” said Stairway.

From 2023 to 2024, the national average public school teacher salaries rose 3.8% to $72,030, according to the latest National Education Association Educator Pay in America Report. But the average teacher salaries haven’t kept up to inflation, the report found, with nearly 17% of American school districts offering starting salaries of less than $40,000.

“America needs to do better when funding schools and paying what is appropriate for teachers,” said Princess Moss, the association’s vice president.

“Teachers are going to do what they need to ensure that their students have what they need to survive and thrive,” Moss said.

“I don’t think money should protect anyone… I should learn.”

Danielson said he spends around $400 to $600 each year on students. Her district is giving a bit of an annual budget to strengthen instrument inventory in her classrooms, but the funds are primarily for approved vendors selling new instruments. She can’t use this money to photograph cheap discoveries from eBay and doesn’t grow as much as she wants.

So, when she comes across a trombone on a high-quality flute or garage sale on the Facebook Marketplace, sometimes she gets soaked up with personal money.

“I’m very frustrated,” she said. “I don’t think money should prevent someone from loving or learning music.”

Teachers are “under pressure,” said Randy Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers.

“They need more resources to make the classroom a safe and comfortable place where students need to learn,” Weingarten said. “Are other experts being asked to fund their work like teachers?”

At Coachella Valley High School in Thermal, California, history teacher Perra Penal Bar estimates that it is $1,800 on a $1,800 out-of-pocket expense annually for classroom basics, club costs and items to make her room more welcoming.

She does not ask her family to contribute or post online wish lists. Many of her students come from immigrant families working in farming, and often face financial difficulties.

Budget cuts and inflation add to the challenges only. But it said it was worth it, especially when she even saw the passive learners motivated by the activities she could offer, Penalbar said.

“That’s not how much you’re coming out of it,” Penalbar said. “It’s about what you’re trying to keep giving in the future, and I hope they take it with them.”

This counselor spent $300 per month nursing, clothing students

Teachers aren’t the only school employees who spend their money to help students.

Lakesha Bear Myers, a social worker for the Central Pennsylvania school district, said she became an expert coupon clipper and bargain hunter to restock food and clothes for students.

Bear Myers, who has been working at Reynolds Middle School in Lancaster since 2017, said he bought a lot of school supplies at Staples during store clearance and grabbed 40 sweatshirts from Coles because it was once a sudden markdown.

These findings are kept in a small office that she calls the “care closet.” Here, students can view toiletries, socks, underwear, food, shoes and other items that their family and family needs.

She said 40-50 students would come to her for breakfast, lunch or snacks every day.

Bair-Myers relied on his own money of about $300 a month and about $300 a month when he was eating 10 children a day. However, in recent years, the needs of her community have increased dramatically. Now she said she’s getting help from community organizations that contribute to food and financial contributions.

“It creates a lot of stress and anxiety because teachers face the same financial hurdles that our students’ families feel,” Baremyers said.

Support teachers connect the community

He said that tariffs could affect grades, especially on items such as backpacks, laptops, clothing, shoes, pencils and pens. In an adoption survey, eight in 10 teachers said inflation and rising costs of school supplies are concerns.

Also, a recent US News & World Report survey found that parents may be willing to help teachers due to rising costs.

Research data shows that planning to spend between $101 and $300 per child while shopping for schools has fallen from 52% last year to 41% this year. More than a third of caregivers said they would only donate under $20 to their children’s classrooms for supplies this year.

Still, Ocañas suggests that if teachers need it, they reach out to their community for help.

Given the opportunity in Covington, Kentucky, the community has come out full force to support teachers during the school supply event in August. The Kenton County Public Library Branch in Covington discovered surplus of gently used supplies while rebuilding the building, and community members donated other new and used items to the cause. Dagmar Morales, the branch’s programming coordinator, said 85 teachers and homeschool families picked up supplies during the event.

Morales estimates supplies added up to about $10,000. The teacher told her they felt overwhelmed by the support, she said. She hopes the library will stop the event again next year.

“It was an event that brought together the community,” Morales said.

The mission was finally achieved for SpaceX’s spaceship

The spaceship finally flew back and space, and it was very much. After a series of failures this year and several scrubbed launches for the latest mission, the world’s biggest rockets have blown up into a cheering crowd of SpaceX employees in Texas before two stages – boosters known as Super Heavy and Vehicle Starship – returned to Earth with a grand controlled vertical splashdown. Designed to push spacecraft to the limits, the test flight was an important step for the ship, where SpaceX and NASA hopes would bring astronauts back to the moon and one day bring humans to Mars.

Top Controversy: Are they fired?

The White House declared that the head of the CDC had been fired. She replied: Not too fast. Susan Monales was banished from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention due to a policy conflict with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. However, Monales’ lawyers retorted that only President Donald Trump himself could fire her, so “she remains as CDC director.” Meanwhile, three other CDC officials resigned in protest of the conflict. And other prominent launch news: The day after CDC reforms, Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook officially pleaded Trump against her own famous banishment, setting up another legal showdown.

The cracker barrel returns to its original logo after backlash

The cracker barrel said it’s back to its classic design with a new logo x after the backlash.

After customer rebound, cracker barrel buckle

The “old timer” remains where he belongs. I’m back in his old-fashioned chair. More than two weeks after its release, it fell into a simplified, more modern look, cracker barrel, and it threw away the old-fashioned logo to prefer an inverted course. It turns out that customers weren’t grateful to anyone messing around with the appeal of the Comford Foods in the Country Store at Cracker Barrel, and they couldn’t be held back. “We would like to thank our guests for sharing your voice,” the company told USA Today. “We said we’d hear, and we have.” As one customer complained to the Victorville (Calif.) Daily Press, “The Cracker Barrel has always stood out for its uniqueness, but now it’s just Denny with a gift shop.”

Taylor and Travis are clearly a huge hit

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are married.” With that bomb on Instagram, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce sent the moon to fans over the news that the couple is engaged. The couple shared a photo of Swift and Kelce surrounded by flowers, with an NFL star on one knee and a walnut-sized rock on the fingers of the superstar singer. Of course, social media exploded with the usual lunch boxes of A-listers and ordinary people. This includes Swift, who wonders that after hearing the news, you might be expected to go through everyday life. “We should be allowed to take time off work for this,” he said.

Kate Rinklerk and Nike play ball

While it may not have created any major public excitement for Taylor Swift, WNBA star Caitlin Clark has been featured as Nike’s next “It” athlete, showing off his own Swoopy Logo, Signature Apparel Collection and of course his own shoes. The logo features an interlock C, which represents Clark’s “magnetic connections to fans around the world,” Nike said. Fans will have to wait for their shoes until 2026, but Kate Linklerk sportswear – T-shirts, hoodies, shorts, pants – arrive this fall. Clark, 23, said in a social media announcement that he “looks out” for more gear. – Edited and written by Robert Abitbol

Most Trump’s tariffs are not legal, appealing US court rules

0

The court has allowed the Trump administration to maintain tariffs until October 14th to give the Trump administration the opportunity to file an appeal with the Supreme Court.

play

WASHINGTON – A federal court of appeals has hit the economic agenda of the Republican president while finding the majority of Donald Trump’s tariffs are illegal and setting the stage for the Supreme Court to have final say in Trump’s tariff regime.

The Court of Appeals ruled 7-4 on August 29th, finding that Trump had stepped over his authority to summon the International Emergency Economic Force Act of 1977 to charge cleaning fees for imports from most countries around the world.

However, the court allowed the tariffs to remain in effect until October 14th, giving the Supreme Court, a conservative majority of 6-3, the opportunity to appeal the decision. Shortly after the ruling, Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondy announced plans to appeal to the Supreme Court to appeal the verdict to overturn it.

Trump has made tariffs at the heart of his economic agenda and smashed sudden taxes on imports to reinvigorate domestic production in the United States. In April, Trump called the EEPA Act of 1977 to declare a national emergency against US trade defecation, in order to impose riceporocal tariffs on unilateral property on goods from other countries. However, the appeals court said the president has exceeded his authority.

“It is unlikely that Congress intended to set up Ieepa to move away from past practices and give the President unlimited authority,” a majority opinion from seven judges said. “The Act does not mention tariffs (or synonyms thereof) nor does it contain procedural safeguards that include clear restrictions on the president’s authority to impose tariffs.”

Trump condemned the decision in his social media site, True Social Statement, but predicted that the Supreme Court would give him a final victory.

“Today, the very partisan court of appeals mistakenly said that our tariffs should be removed, but they know that the United States will ultimately win,” Trump said. “If these tariffs disappear, it will be a complete disaster for the country. It will make us economically weak and we must be strong.”

The President added: “For many years, tariffs have been permitted to be used against us by our creepy and wise politicians. Now, with the help of the US Supreme Court, we will use them for the benefit of our country.”

The Court of Appeals’ decision noted that Ieepa did not use similar words such as “customer duties” or “tax” or “tax” when defining presidential power under the law. In contrast, several other laws explicitly delegate the president’s authority to impose tariffs.

“The law gives the President a significant power to file many lawsuits in response to a declared national emergency, but none of these cases expressly include any authority to impose tariffs, duties, or similar or taxable powers,” the court said.

Ieepa has not mentioned tariffs, but the administration points to the president’s power under laws that “regulate” imports in the crisis. Trump says the country’s sustained trade deficit and the flow of fentanyl to the US qualifies as such an emergency.

The Ieepa Act of 1977 was historically used to impose sanctions on the enemy and freeze assets, but Trump argued that the citizens’ own emergency, including trade, justified his use of tariffs.

The court’s decision will not affect tariffs issued under other legal authorities, such as Trump’s duties on steel and aluminum imports.

The Court of Appeals has ruled two cases. One was brought by five small US companies, and the other was brought by 12 Democratic-led US states. Plaintiffs in these cases argued that the country’s trade deficits were not recognized as an “urgent” or “unusual or extraordinary” threat that would allow the president to act.

The constitution gives birth to the president, not the authority to issue taxes and duties, and the delegation of that authority must be explicitly and restricted, according to the lawsuit.

Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield said earlier this year after the U.S. International Trade Court took sides with states and businesses.

The Trump administration appealed the decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Another federal court of appeals is reviewing another federal judge’s ruling that tariffs exceeded the president’s authority on another challenge brought by two Illinois toy importers.

The Supreme Court in June rejected a request to take on the toy company matter before a lower court of appeal ruled the case. The administration argues that toy companies have challenged the wrong courts and should not be considered at all.

Rare Car Auctions sells “Fast & Furious” and “Jurassic Park” replicas

0

I’ve balled out to these memorable cars of my beloved movies and TV shows.

play

  • Kraft Auctions held an auction of film cars and replicas from the Film Memorial Museum.
  • The auction featured several notable replicas and props, including models from the Fast & Furious franchise.

The iconic film replica car competed in auction following the closure of the Film Automobile Museum.

Craft Auctions have accepted bids for several film and TV car replicas, from Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler to Knight Rider kit replicas. These full-size replicas are essentially carbon copies of memorable vehicles from blockbuster movies and hit TV series.

So how much are these movie cars and do you spend thousands of dollars on replicas of movie cars?

One bidder paid $90,000 for a “fast and furious” replica car

Fast & Furious is known for its flashy modified cars. The film’s franchise has millions of fans around the world, making the vehicles featured in the film highly desirable for car enthusiasts. What if you could own a car from the original The Fast and the Furious Film? Kraft Auctions have fought for the Bidders’ next best. Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker), a replica of the 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse, drove in the film. This is one of the vehicles that paved the way for the franchise.

Mitsubishi Eclipse replicas feature all the cosmetics of the movie, including body kits, rear wings, carbon fiber hoods and more. The replica also includes all Eclipse hood pins, decals and racing bucket seats. It will run, but according to the list, “a new fuel line must be installed to become operational.”

The auction featured a total of 463 items, consisting of movie cars, screen memorabilia and more. Mitsubishi cuisine replicas are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to some of the wildest items listed for auction. The screen-used 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, powered by Vin Diesel character Dominictret, sold for $90,000. With 25 bids, it has become one of the most desirable movie cars in the entire auction.

What movies and TV cars featured at the auction?

There are too many cars and cars from movies that have hit TV shows on the list, but there are some outstanding models. These models played roles in the enormous franchises and shows that have become staples of pop culture for different generations.

Movie and TV cars featured at auction

  • Custom Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine 1972 Mitsubishi Van (sold for $18,000.00)
  • Ghostbusters 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood Hearse (sold for $27,000.00)
  • Batty Caddy Batmobile 1960 Cadillac Custom (sold for $16,000.00)
  • Jurassic Park 1994 Ford Explorer (sold for $28,000.00)
  • Night Rider Kit Replica 1982 Pontiac Firebird Transam (sold for $13,000.00)
  • Stranger Things Hawkins Police 1980 Chevrolet K5 Blazer (sold for $17,000.00)

This auction didn’t have a shortage of replicas and screen vehicles that would raise eyebrows. Some replicas are sold for more money than the fair purchase price of actual used car models.

When was the Rodz and Bodz Movie Car Museum Auction?

Kraft Auctions’ Rodz and Bodz Movie Car Museum Auction officially opened on Friday, August 22nd at 5pm in mountain daylight hours. All items were physically located at 401 Englewood Parkway in Englewood, Colorado, but enthusiasts bid online from Kraftauctions.com.

The big day for movies and collector cars (over 60 models) began on Saturday, August 23rd, at 10am mountain daylight hours in Englewood, Colorado. The Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Cadillac Fleetwood Hearse had an early bid of $14,000.

Screen-Fash Fast’s 1970 Dodge Charger R/T had an early bid of $23,000. Obviously, the enthusiasts were willing to pay a lot of money to own the history of the film.
