What is Trump’s approval rating? The August poll shows a historical comparison

0

President Donald Trump has been in office for just over seven months, and his approval ratings have been high due to many measures after coinciding with the Jeffrey Epstein scandal in July.

Congress was on break throughout August, but Trump deployed National Guard in D.C. to combat crime and homelessness, threatening to do so in other cities. He also implemented new tariffs on several countries.

Recent polls show that Americans are more partisan and have more feelings about Trump’s work performance than they did in the past.

So, what do Americans think? Here’s what you need to know:

What is Trump’s overall approval?

A RealClearpolitics poll shows Trump’s approval ratings have become more negative throughout the first few weeks of July, and are present towards the end of the month, and remained stable last month. Aggregated polls by the New York Times show similar trends.

As of January 27th, Trump received a +6.2 percentage points approval rating, but as of March 13th, it reversed slightly negatively, and there is no show for RealClearpolitics graphics. Approval rating reached the most negative on April 29th, at -7.2% points. This fell around Trump’s 100 Day mark. The controversy over Epstein was published in week three, which again approached that low on July 22nd and 23rd at -7.1 percentage points.

His average approval margin as of August 29th is -5 percentage points, according to RealClearPolitics. According to a New York Times aggregator on August 29th, the approval margin is -8 percent points.

Trump’s approval rating is lower than other presidents

Historical analysis by Gallup shows that his approval rating in Trump’s first few years of office – both the 45th and the 47th presidents are lower than other modern presidents at the same time in power.

In a Gallup poll conducted on August 1-20, 40% approved Trump’s job performance. According to Gallup, here is how it is compared to other presidents in August of the first year of his term:

  • Joe Biden (August 2021) – 49% approval
  • Trump (August 2017) – 36% approval
  • Barack Obama (August 2009) – 53% approval
  • George W. Bush (August 2001) – 56% approval
  • Bill Clinton (August 1993) – 44% approval
  • George HW Bush (August 1989) – 69% approval
  • Ronald Reagan (August 1981) – 60% approval

The August polls showed that the plateau, which long rated the president for the summer, has sometimes immersed himself in a historically low level. These figures are driven primarily by undermining the level of support from the largely indifferent Republicans, overwhelming democratic opposition, and independent support, further highlighting the support for Trump and the partisan nature of his second term.

38% of Americans approve Trump using the military in DC

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted on August 22-24, 40% have approved, while 54% have not approved Trump’s job performance. The poll looked at 1,022 US adults with an error margin of ±3 percentage points.

The poll reflects the number of approvals seen in the last four consecutive surveys since late June, showing most changes throughout.

The survey discovered two major Trump policy issues: similar plateaus on immigration and the economy. Of the respondents, 37% approved performance in the economy, and 55% disapproved. Immigrants received a slightly higher number, with 43% approved and 51% disapproved.

Pollers found that 38% of Americans use the military to support law enforcement in the US capital, with 46% opposed. The rest were uncertain or refused to answer the question.

Most Americans believe Trump has gone too far with tariffs

An Economist/YouGov poll surveyed 1,523 US citizens between August 22 and 25, with 56% of respondents disapproving how Trump handled his work, compared to 41% who approved it.

The poll asked whether Trump was too powerful to implement his agenda in seven regions, with more respondents saying he went too far than he was “right” or “not doing enough.”

When it comes to tariffs, 52% of Americans said Trump had gone too far, but that was just right, while 9% said that it wasn’t enough.

The vote took place a few days before Trump’s double the tariff on goods from India came into effect, and was owed to a maximum of 50% on some goods from the country.

Carsonbeck carries Miami past Notre Dame after exiting Georgia

0

play

Miami Gardens, Fla. – He never says that because there are no winners in the blame game, regardless of the description.

Only losers complaining.

So I’ll do it for Carson Beck: Georgia’s problem last season wasn’t Beck. He plans to spend the next four months proven that in Miami.

“It’s not about me, it’s about this team,” Beck said after a thrilling 27-24 victory over Notre Dame, Miami’s first top-10 victory since 2017.

And it’s just as grumbling as you get from Beck.

But paint it in any way you want, reality flows. Georgia lost 36 passes last season with Beck as quarterback. 36.

Miami did not drop a single ball in Beck’s first game against the Hurricanes.

Here are three speculations that looked like a Sunday night national quarterback in the Miami suburbs. And the first two don’t count.

Beck’s redemption season began here with big games and bigger performances. A slow, game-winning drive and statement was made.

Even if conservative Miami coach Mario Cristobal has almost swallowed the entire game.

But get this: if Beck plays the rest of the season like this, and if Cristobal tries to go through the reins, Beck and the Hurricane will give the Holy Program a groundbreaking season for the first time in 20 years.

The same thing I felt when I first walked to the Coral Gables Green Leaf Football facility in January and transferred CJ Daniels to sit with offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson.

He was forced to miss the second half of the SEC Championship game for weeks after the season-ending elbow surgery, and Georgia’s College Football Playoffs quarter

The same two games that sparked a social media-fueled insanity among Georgia fans fell in love with the backup gunner Stockton of the trial and blamed Beck for the program’s postseason slip.

When he sat down with Dawson and Daniels and talked about the ball, he knew something was different. It all took place a few months later against Notre Dame and one of the nation’s best defenses.

“I tried to tell everyone something different here,” Beck said. “But actions speak more eloquent than words.”

After a last minute victory over Notre Dame, where both offensive and defense were crucial, these actions highlighted another reality. This team will go as long as Beck takes it.

No matter what Georgia fans think.

The same fans dog-pined Beck and praised Stockton’s virtue, but Georgia coach Kobe called Beck first to return to Athens, but found out that Beck had returned to college football in 2025.

You do math.

It was just one game in Miami to show what Smart knows forever and what Beck wanted to prove since his Georgia career ended on the grass at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the final play of the first half of the SEC Championship Game.

Throwing is easy if the receiver isn’t always dropping a pass. The attack flows, it works structurally and is balanced.

If you are dropping a pass, you have not set a throw in the run game. If you’re dropping a pass, you’re guessing you don’t know what to call when you call a play.

If you can’t catch the ball consistently, there are no plans or suggestions. But whenever possible, when the quarterback can confidently step through the Ito throw, he gets what he played against Notre Dame.

Smart throws, key throws, game-changing throws. Beck extended the play and throws a touchdown pass to Malakitney in the first quarter. Or the final drive of the game (one finished on a field goal) after Miami’s four previous possessions were all three.

Before Cristobal became conservative and settled on field goal, Beck slammed Daniels with a nine-yard curl and threw the perfect deep ball to Kieram Marlon, who had no alternative but to thwart what appeared to be a specific touchdown pass.

Miami ultimately scored points that won the game, but statements were made multiple times during the first game with Beck’s new team. He wasn’t an issue in Georgia last year.

“He’s our general,” said Miami as he ran through Marty Brown. “He’s actually our leader and the leader of the game. We follow him.”

That’s not to say that Georgia wasn’t, but there were more levels of regression in 2024. To put it fair to Georgia receivers, the passing game is three offenses. It’s protection and the recipient is open and Catch the ball and the quarterback throws on time and expects.

If any of these three does not occur, your chances of success will be significantly reduced. If you have problems with two out of three, it is almost impossible to have a functional passing game.

Georgia’s offensive line has been a problem all season with the offensive line. It couldn’t stay healthy, the guys were playing from position, some were lacking. Next, add these 36 drops to the equation.

Beck struggled last season, his intercepted twice (12), his completion rate fell to an eight-pointer (to 64%) and a mediocre 7.8 (from 9.5) with every attempt. Because the passing game process was a mess.

By midseason, when it was clear that Beck had either no or could have trusted his receiver, he began to push. I began trying to make the perfect throw to avoid two stragglers with three passing game attacks.

Not because Beck regressed, but because ehe won the big head reported in a $3 million nil deal. Or because he drove around the Lamborghini.

All nonsense, but it’s all fans’ uncertainty for Georgia, who missed CFP in 2023 and lost in the quarter-finals in 2024.

Fast forward to Sunday night: A very many simple throws, a very many usable path concept.

He had 205 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions – against the best defense in college football by the end of the season. Seven different receivers caught the pass, and the passing game was an operational symphony.

A few hours before the game, Beck said, on an hour-long bus to Hard Rock Stadium, it felt like a big game he played in Georgia. A few months were different games in a different uniform and then quickly changed.

He started preparing for the game wearing his jersey until he reached the stadium.

“I got out there and felt amazingly comfortable,” Beck said. “This isn’t the only thing I do. I have teammates around me who play. I have to get the ball from them.”

Now it has nothing to complain about.

At home, 29 “low-performing” stores have closed by the end of September.

At home, a Coppel, Texas-based furniture and home decor retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June as a result of “broader economic and retail-specific market pressures.” As a result, 29 stores will be closed by September 30th. Initially, the retailer announced it would close 26 stores, but three more have been announced in recent months.

The bankruptcy filing and store closure comes after several other big box retailers did the same this year.

Here’s what you need to know about home store closures:

What is the store closed?

Court documents list the following locations:

  • 6135 Junction Boulevard, Lego Park, New York

When will you close your store at home?

The store will be closed by September 30, 2025, according to court documents.

Why did you file for bankruptcy from home?

Court documents say increased tariffs have led to filing for bankruptcy from home due to rising interest rates, “sustainable inflation” and growing concerns over unsustainable customs costs. As a result, six of my home stores have been closed in the past year.

“Given the costs associated with brick and mortar store operations and the issues affecting the retail industry, the remaining number of stores operates at an optimal performance level,” court documents reveal.

As part of the bankruptcy filing, ownership at home is outlined in a news release to a group of hedge funds and investment companies based in New York City and San Francisco.

Ice Agent Burns Out amid Trump’s Active Enforcement

0

As ICE launches recruitment efforts to hire another 10,000 officers, existing staff will fight long hours and expand public anger.

play

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Under President Donald Trump, immigration and customs enforcement has been the driving force behind his drastic crackdown on immigrants, strengthened by record funds and record funds to make raids and new latitudes, but staff are fighting for the public’s rage over the long hours and arrests.

These internal pressures are at the expense of them.

The two current former ICE officials told Reuters that agents are tackling burnout and frustration as agents struggle to respond to the administration’s aggressive enforcement agenda.

The agency has launched a recruitment drive to relieve stress by hiring thousands of new executives as quickly as possible, but the process will likely take months or years.

All those interviewed by Reuters supported immigration enforcement in principle. But they criticized the Trump administration’s push for high daily arrest allocations, in which thousands of individuals with no criminal history, long-term green cardholders, others with legal visas, and even US citizens, were detained.

Most current and former ICE officials requested anonymity due to concerns about retaliation against themselves or former colleagues.

Americans are flooding social media images of masked agents in tactical gear handcuffing people in neighbourhood streets, workplaces, schools, churches, courts and driveways. Several videos of arrests have become viruses and promoted public outrage over tactics.

Under Trump, daily arrest rates fell in July, but compared to a year ago, average daily arrests by 21,000 powerful agencies rose more than 250% in June.

Trump says he wants to deport “the worst, the worst,” but ice figures show that non-criminals are being picked up.

Immigration emergency justifies long hours

Official data obtained from the University of California, Berkeley, Berkeley and the Faculty of Law show that more than Trump’s first six months of inauguration violations has increased to 221 per day to 221 per day, up from 221 per day.

Approximately 69% of immigrant arrests under Trump came from those who were subject to criminal convictions or pending charges, numbers show. Some ICE agents are frustrated that hundreds of professional ice investigators, usually focusing on serious crimes such as human trafficking and cross-border gangs, are reassigned to everyday immigration enforcement.

In an interview with Reuters, Trump border emperor Tom Homan admitted that the long hours and reallocation of expert agents wanted ice personnel, but said the January 20 declaration of a national emergency on illegal immigration justified that.

“We have staff who want to do other types of investigations, but the president has declared a state of emergency,” Homan said.

Homan, who spent 30 years in immigration enforcement and joined ICE at the start of 2003, said that the lengthy hours should be reduced as new ICE staff hire speeds up.

“I think morale is good. I think morale will improve as we bring more resources,” he said.

Another stressor for more senior officials is the lasting threat of being ruled out for failing arrests highlighted by multiple leadership changes at ICE since Trump took office in January, five ICE officials said.

In response to a request for comment, the ICE parent agency, a senior U.S. Department of Homeland Security official, downplayed concerns about morale and said officers were targeted by attacks and were most plagued by targeting criticism from Democrats.

The senior official said he was “thrilled to be able to work again” after ICE officials were exposed to Biden’s Limitsunder.

Agents under intense pressure

Current and former ICE officials said they are at the heart of the complaints. He said this is the White House’s request for ICE to increase the number of immigrant arrests, which are 10 times the daily arrest rate last year to around 3,000 a day under Trump’s Democratic predecessor.

In some cases, raid officials have moved on to the wrong address following leads relying on artificial intelligence, increasing the likelihood of picking up the wrong person or putting officers at risk, according to current and two former staff members.

“The demands they placed on us were unrealistic. It was not done in a safe way to make us most successful,” the current official said.

During recent attacks in several US cities, masked ice agents have faced angry residents demanding they identify themselves and kick them out of their neighborhoods.

“In many communities, they don’t look like the work they do, so I’m sure it’s stressful for them and their families,” said Kelly Doyle, former top legal counsel at ICE.

ICE faced backlash between Trump’s 2017 and 2021 presidency when activists and some Democrats cried out that they “repeated the ice,” but the agency’s more aggressive enforcement in recent months has further boosted Trump’s public recognition assessment on immigration.

That view is partly shaped by news reports that students were arrested on campus or on their way to sports practice, detained while dropping children at school, smashing windows and pulling people out of their cars, shackling surrounded and surrounded men to travel to work at bus stops or at home depots.

A former ICE official said at the beginning of the administration that several former colleagues told him they were happy with the “cuffs off.”

But a few months later, he said he was “overwhelmed” by the number of arrests the administration is demanding.

“They’ll prefer to go back to intensive targeting,” he said. “They were once able to say, ‘We’re arresting criminals.’ ”

10,000 Employment Disabilities

The Republican spending package passed in Congress in July gave more money than almost every other federal law enforcement agency.

The Trump administration has launched a fierce recruitment drive behind the new funds to achieve its goal of hiring 10,000 ICE officers over the next four years.

Using wartime-style posters and slogans such as “America Needs You,” Ice has launched a media blitz, which is very unusual for government agencies running ads on social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube.

Homeland Security said more than 115,000 “patriotic Americans” applied for ice jobs, but for any period it didn’t say that.

The adoption of ice is similar to a surge in the same way as onboard border patrol agents in the mid-2000s, with critics saying it caused corruption and misconduct in its class.

Asked about the risk of rushing fewer qualified people to staff, Homan said ice should choose “quality over quantity.”

“Officers still need to do background investigations. They still need to be vetted. They still need to make sure they are going to the academy,” Homan said.

Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” offers an additional automobile tax credit for Biden

0

If you’re looking for Labor Day sales on a new electric vehicle, the federal government may help you get one of the best deals this month. It takes 30 days to bundle tax credits from both Joe Biden and Donald Trump’s administrations.

Think about how each president’s signature law can help you save money on new cars.

◾ 2022 Inflation Reduction Method: Biden-era incentives offer tax credits of up to $7,500 for new, plug-in EVs, or fuel cell electric vehicles. Trump’s massive tax and spending policy bill will close this credit on September 30th.

◾ “Big Beautiful Building”: Trump’s new law offers an annual tax credit of up to $10,000 on the profits of new vehicle loans, as long as it is assembled in the US for less than £14,000. This covers purchases made between 2025 and 2028.

How long will Biden and Trump tax credits last for new cars?

Can’t view the graphics? Click here to see them.

How to stack automobile tax credits

Here are some ways you can save money on EVs by combining Biden and Trump tax credits over the next four years:

A new EV may not be the best investment

Certainly, this strategy may not be the best way to grow your dollars. But you’re probably set to buy a new EV with the latest gadgets and upgrades.

According to the Kelley Blue Book, the average price paid for this year’s new EV was $57,734. Even with a $7,500 tax credit, the gas-powered car’s EV premium is around $1,500. According to Kelley Blue Book, looking at the cost of fuel over five years, mathematics tips in favor of EVS: a gas-powered amount and $4,295, it’s $9,490.

According to the Kelley Blue Book, if you don’t smell like a new car, you can use the average list price of the EVS about $20,000 less than the new model. You can also get a $4,000 tax credit from Biden’s law for some used EVs, but that doesn’t qualify for the Trump tax credit.

Some additional fine prints to consider whether to use any of these tax credits

◾ Big beautiful bill: Auto loan tax credits are incremental in increments of income between $100,000 and $150,000 by an individual and between $200,000 and $250,000 if jointly filed. It cannot be used for fleet purchases, commercial vehicles, or leasing.

◾Inflation reduction method: To use EV credit, you will need to purchase a North American assembled car for your own use. Your income should be under $150,000 for individuals and under $300,000 for those who are submitting jointly.

Currently, the 4% rule has become the 4.7% rule. That’s why it’s important.

0

play

Thirty years ago, financial advisor Bill Bengen created a retirement principle called the 4% rule. It went viral.

Now the rules are getting updates.

The 4% rule states that you must spend 4% of your savings in the first year of retirement and then spend the same amount adjusted to inflation every year.

Because it’s a simple formula for solving complex problems, it’s a way to fund your retirement.

The 4% rule drew praise and looting for years. Now, Bengen says it’s time for revision. The 4% rule is the 4.7% rule.

This revision shows both the strength and weakness of the original 4% rule.

This rule holds up as one of the most famous concepts in personal finance, and its simplicity is fantastic.

“It lasted for a long time because it was memorable and made very complex human issues feel more manageable,” said Rob Williams, managing director of financial planning at Charles Schwab.

However, some retirement experts say the rule is a little too simple. Dates to the eras that many savers used by half the stocks, half the bonds, Bengen used to formulate his original rules.

Currently, financial advisors recommend that retired savers diversify across a much longer list of “asset classes” that include several types of stocks and bonds, real estate, cash and cash equivalents. And few investors park half of their money in the bond market.

How the 4% rule has become the 4.7% rule

The 4% rule began in 1994 with paper mathematics written by Bengen for the journal of financial planning. If retirees start with that spending rate, Bengen reasoned that their savings lasted 30 years. (The actual figure was 4.15%. He’s rounded up.)

Surprisingly, even the authors, the rules began.

“That’s surreal,” Bengen said. “I can’t believe I’m still doing this in 30 years.”

Bengen continues to improve the rules along with his own investment habits. Thirty years ago, his research focused on an equal combination of US government bonds and large equities. Today, he works with a broader investment portfolio, including large, medium and small business stocks, international stocks, bonds and Treasury bills.

“I’m up to seven asset classes now,” he said.

Bengen’s calculations assume a slightly less conservative mixture of 55% of stocks, 40% of bonds and 5% of cash.

Coupled with strong stock performance in recent years, the broader portfolio has changed the mathematics of Bengen’s Rules. For a new book published in August, he assumed the 4.7% rule.

“The main reason for the change is that my research has become more refined,” he said.

Bengen practices more or less what he preaches. When he retired in 2013, he followed an updated version of his own rules and spent 4.5% of his savings in the first year.

“And it turned out to be too conservative,” he said. “The stock market went very well so I was able to adjust upwards.”

He currently spends 4.9% a year.

Is the 4% rule still valid?

The 4% rule is ubiquitous in financial planning. It is also the subject of endless critique, an article questioning whether the rules are still working or whether it suggests that it may not apply to most of us.

“4% was a general rule of thumb, but the reality is that people really have to see the true price of the cost of resignation, or what they want,” says Caleb Silver, editor-in-chief of financial journalism site Investopedia.

Williams of Schwab said the 4% rule would remain “a good place to start.” But modern retirement plans are living documents, he said. Retirements and their advisors can update their spending goals each year based on life changes, investment returns, inflation and other factors.

“Most people I talk about, their spending patterns over the 20-30 years they retired, are not static. They are dynamic,” said Douglas Ornstein, director of Tiaa Wealth Management.

One reason for the enduring popularity of the 4% rule is that it speaks to the most important fear of Americans approaching retirement. Recent research from Allianz Life suggests that we are more afraid of running out of money than death itself.

“As a human, when there are complex challenges like how much we spend retirement, that’s a scary question,” Williams said.

Many retirees follow the 4% rule. Some people are wrong.

Many retirees follow Bengen’s rules.

“I get emails from people every day, so I know there are people who literally take it,” Bengen said.

Not everyone gets the rules correctly. Some retirees mistakenly believe that their goal is to spend exactly 4% of your savings each year, Bengen said.

Here’s how the original rules actually work:

If you retire with $500,000 in your first year, you will spend $20,000 to supplement your Social Security and other income. If the inflation rate is 3%, you spend $20,600 in your second year. and so on.

Here’s another issue with the 4% rule. That seems to work better on the heels.

According to a 2022 survey on consumer finances, typical Americans in the age group between 55 and 65 years old are around $185,000 in family retirement savings.

Applying the 4% rule to $185,000 will earn you $7,400 a year. There’s not much money.

“We’ve been working hard to get into the world,” said Amy Arnott, Morningstar portfolio strategist.

Bengen’s rules are conservative. He formulated it to cover retirees in any economic scenario, and it was developed at a spending rate that ensured that savings lasted until retirement.

The rules are “based on research that has been trying to find the worst case of all retirees over the past 100 years,” Bengen said. “I think that retirees, many retirees, probably should spend more.”

Banks and post offices will close on Monday, September 1st in compliance with Labor Day holidays, but most major restaurants, grocery and retail chains are open on holidays. The stock market will also be closed.

Companies like Walmart, Starbucks, Chick-Fil-A and Target will keep their doors open this year on federal holidays. Costco is one of the notable exceptions as warehouses close on Labor Day.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the holiday celebrates “the social and economic achievements of American workers,” and is rooted in the second half of the 19th century when labor activists recognised a federal holiday as a “recognizing America’s strength, prosperity and happiness.”

The first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, and by 1894 23 states had adopted leave. President Glover Cleveland signed the law on June 28, 1894, which marks the first Monday of September each year as a national holiday.

Beach closes on Labor Day weekend due to fecal contamination

SAN DIEGO – Thousands of people across the United States are being advised for water-related activities in the beaches and other coastal areas on Labor Day holiday weekends due to unsafe levels of bacteria.

Due to water quality concerns caused by increased levels of fecal contamination, water quality recommendations and closures have been issued for many beaches along the East Coast, from Maine to Florida. The recommendation warns beach fans to avoid water contact due to the possible risk of bacterial disease.

Meanwhile, West Coast officials also warned of high bacterial levels on beaches, including San Diego, where the Imperial Beach coastline, the silver chain coastline and parts of the coronado have been closed as of August 31, according to the water quality of San Diego Beach.

At the start of Labor Day weekend, the Los Angeles County Public Health issued a saltwater use warning on August 29 for local beaches due to bacterial levels exceeding health standards. The warning was issued for some parts of Topanga County Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and Santa Monica.

In Michigan, some beaches have been closed or bacterial recommendations have been reported by the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA Today Network. State officials said beaches that are not safe to swim are not safe due to potential wildlife contamination.

According to the US Geological Survey and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, consumption or contact with water contaminated with the feces of humans and other warm-blooded animals can cause a variety of diseases, including gastrointestinal diseases, skin rashes, respiratory diseases and other types of infection.

The Environmental Protection Agency said the most commonly tested fecal bacterial indicators are E. coli and enterococcus, among others. Bacteria can come from sewage discharge, stormwater runoff, stormwater runoff, animal and agricultural waste, according to the New York State Department of Health.

Hundreds of beaches had “potentially dangerous pollution levels” in 2024

Beaches are popular destinations for summer months and holidays, such as Independence Day and Labor Day. However, closures due to high levels of bacteria and fecal contamination remain a widespread problem across the country.

Earlier this summer, high bacteria levels prompted beach fans to close and advise beaches from Michigan to New York in preparation for Independence Day celebrations. The closure of beaches from dangerous bacterial levels “since it’s hot and there’s more people out there, it tends to peak in July,” according to Harvard’s School of Public Health.

A report from the Conservation Group Environment America, released in July 2025, points out that 61% of U.S. beaches had “potentially dangerous levels of pollution” in 2024. That year, the group found that 1,930 out of 3,187 tested beaches experienced 1,930 out of at least one beach, with indicators of fecal contamination reaching potentially uncertain levels.

The group also found that more than 450 beaches had potentially unsafe levels of fecal contamination for at least 25% of the number of days tested. The report added that in 2024 there were over 7,563 health warnings or closures on coastal and Great Lakes beaches, affecting one every 15 days.

“There is an estimated 57 million diseases in the United States due to swimming in oceans, lakes, rivers and ponds each year. The majority of these diseases have not been reported,” the report states. “Contaminated water can also cause health warnings and closures that hinder your ability to enjoy the beach.”

What is Beach Advisory, Closure?

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Marine Service, water quality tests show the presence of one or more contaminants above health levels, beach recommendations and closures occur. Beach fans are encouraged to follow state and local guidelines for recommendations and find information about the current water quality of the beach.

According to the National Marine Service, beach closures and recommendations can be caused by excessive stormwater carrying contamination from stormwater drains to recreational water. Contamination includes motor oil, animal waste, pesticides, trash and pathogens.

According to the National Marine Service, other sources that lead to beach closures and recommendations are harmful algae flowers, such as the red tides — sewage and chemical runoff. USA Today Network -New England reported on August 29 that more than 20 beaches in Vermont are under bacterial recommendations as they are heading for Labor Day weekend due to high levels of cyanobacteria.

According to Vermont Department of Health, cyanobacteria, or blue-green algae that grow in freshwater, they can release toxins into water that produce unsafe swimming conditions. Health effects of contact with cyanobacteria include rash, abdominal pain, vomiting, liver damage, and dizziness.

“It’s generally wise if the water is a rare colour without avoiding a swim after heavy rain or checking with local or state health officials first,” advises the National Marine Service.

Robert Muller was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2021: Report

0

play

Robert Mueller, who served as special advisor to determine whether the Russian government interfered in 2016 to support then-presidential candidate Donald Trump, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease four years ago, the New York Times reported on August 31.

The Times reported that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in the summer of 2021, citing a statement from Mueller’s family.

“He retired from law practice at the end of the year,” the statement said, according to the Times. “He taught at his law school alma mater in both falls 2021 and 2022 and retired at the end of 2022. His family asks that he respects his privacy.”

Mueller’s investigation ultimately concluded that Russia intervened in the 2016 election to help Trump, but there was no evidence that anyone associated with Trump’s campaign had conspired with the Russian government.

On August 22, the Justice Department sent some of the files related to Jeffrey Epstein, a sex offender convicted of committing suicide in New York federal prison in 2019, to the House Oversight Committee in response to a subpoena issued by the committee.

Mueller is one of several former federal law enforcement officers, including Jeff Holder, Merrick Garland, William Barr and Jeff Session, who were summoned to testify as part of an investigation into the federal investigation, including James Comey, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, William Barr and Jeff Session.

A statement from the family to the New York Times came days before Mueller was scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee on the investigation and prosecution. Mueller was to testify on September 2nd, according to the Times.

The committee reported that when he served as director from 2001 to 2013, he wanted to ask Mueller about the processing of the FBI’s Epstein investigation.

Long career in public service

Mueller was appointed to lead the FBI a week before the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack, and spent the next 12 years at the helm of an agency.

He also spent three years as a Marine officer, leading a rifle platoon during the Vietnam War, earning the Purple Heart.

“Bob Mueller is an outstanding choice because he is apolitical, follows the rule of law and follows the evidence wherever he is, regardless of political outcome,” John Pistol, former deputy FBI director at Mueller, told USA Today in 2017.

Snoop Dogg deals with backlash on “Lightyear” LGBTQ comments

0

play

Snoop Dogg deals with backlash against his controversial comments about LGBTQ+ characters in children’s movies.

The 53-year-old rapper recently fired fire after he made a comment on a “give it” podcast. There he took his grandson to watch the Pixar film Lightyear and said it was unfortunate because the same-sex couple gave birth to a baby together. “These are kids,” he said on the August 20th episode. “Do we have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions! I have no answers.”

After sparking homophobic protests and accusations, Snoop Dogg responded to critics by commenting on Hollywood’s unlocked Instagram post about the story. He wrote that he was caught off guard and that he had no answer to “my grandson.”

He continued, “It’s my bad thing to not know the answer from six years ago.

On the original podcast, Snoop Dogg said that while his grandson was watching “Lightyear,” he asked how a woman could have a baby with another woman, and he wasn’t sure how to answer. The “Toy Story” spinoff, released in 2022, featured early scenes that Buzz Lightyear commander Alisha revealed to have welcomed a child along with his wife. The film ignited a conservative backlash upon release due to a brief kiss between Alisha and her partner.

On the podcast, Snoop Dogg denounced the film with “throw me in the middle” of a situation where he “didn’t have the answer” for his grandson, and he said he was “scary to go to the film now” because of the experience.

The comments have attracted anger and ock laughs on social media. One X-Post responded to the statement and slammed Snoop Dogg as “the biggest sold out in hip hop.” “Wait, no, this is actually homophobia,” another X user said. Earlier this year, Snoop Dogg also faced social media outrage after performing at an event celebrating President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Lauren Gunderson, a writer who worked on an early version of “Lightyear,” took a thread to protect the story after Snoop Dogg’s comments. Gunderson said when he “needed a partner for a key character” in the film, “it was very natural to write “her” instead of “he.”

“As much as I knew the expressive effect it could have as much as the details of that were in the film,” she said. “Little lines, big deal. I’m pleased that they were holding it. I’m proud of it. Infinite. Love is love.”

In response to thread users who criticized Snoop Dogg, Gunderson simply replied, “He sucks.”

Donald Trump says he will sign an executive order requesting voter ID

0

play

President Donald Trump said he would issue an executive order that requires all voters to have voter identification. An announcement following his move in March calls for evidence of citizenship in the federal election and unfounded claims of voter fraud claiming that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.

“Voter IDs must be part of every vote. There are no exceptions! I will make an executive order for that purpose!!!” Trump said on August 30 in Truth Society.

Trump has long questioned the US election system and has continued to falsely argue that his 2020 defeat to Democratic President Joe Biden was the result of widespread fraud. The president and his Republican allies have also made unfounded claims about widespread votes by non-citizens. It is illegal and rarely happens.

For years, he has been seeking an end to electronic voting machines, and instead seeking paper voting and using fees. The process that election officials say is time-consuming, costly and far more accurate than machine counting.

At the beginning of August, he said he would sign an executive order to abolish mail-in voting to bring integrity to the 2026 midterm elections.

Trump told Sean Hannity on Fox News on August 15 that Putin told him, “You can’t vote honestly by mail.”

“He said, ‘You have mail-in votes so your election was geared up,'” Trump told Hannity.

Voters usually use email-in voting if they are traveling or if they want to avoid waiting in line at the polling station on the day of election. Election security officials say the president will not play a role in overseeing the election.

But Trump has long won for mail-in votes that are vulnerable to fraud. Despite election experts, including experts from his first administration, he said mail-in voting is safe.

The November 3rd, 2026 election will be the first national referendum on Trump’s domestic and foreign policy since returning to power in January. Democrats are trying to break Republican grips against both the House and Senate to block Trump’s domestic agenda.

In March, Trump signed an executive order to overhaul how elections will take place across the country, including establishing new voter identification requirements to prove U.S. citizenship to vote in federal elections. Non-US citizens are already not allowed to vote in federal elections.

However, under the order, the nationwide mail voter registration form requires applicants to provide a US passport, an actual ID driver’s license or state-issued card that complies with actual standards, or provide a “valid federal or state-issued photo identification.”

Tax rules will change again for ticket resale 1099-ks

0

The rules have changed once again when 1099-K is issued for online ticket sales and other transactions.

play

  • The new rules are again on sale online for ticket sales and other products and services for 2025.
  • Sellers who flagged as “business” or “professional” sellers on the platform may obtain 1099-K forms at lower internal thresholds, experts say, even if they don’t reach federal restrictions.
  • If casual sellers lose money on ticket sales, they shouldn’t expect tax cuts.

There’s no better time than the end of summer to be optimistic about our sports teams. Season ticket holders who are passionate about covering high costs can start thinking about selling tickets on profits to recover their costs.

However, sellers should be careful: it is recommended to take a timeout to check the tax rules.

We are talking about one of the more confusing changes in tax regulations related to paperwork in recent years. And if it flashes in 2025 it has changed again thanks to the tax rules involved when it issued 1099-K this year for online ticket sales this year, and the provisions on the tax and spending package that President Donald Trump signed into law this summer.

In the first minute of 2025, fans were warned that they could issue a traceable tax form if they were left in football cash by reselling NFL game tickets at an extraordinary price that was far greater than their original value. Now, forget about that. Certainly, it spins your head.

Without a doubt, you can borrow taxes on those ticket sales even if you don’t receive the 1099-k.

Taxpayers are legally required to report profits from ticket sales, whether they receive 1099-K or not, said Scott Klein, senior manager of tax policy and advocacy at the CPAS American Association.

“If you sell tickets with profits, you’re taxable, minus the profits – the sale price and excluding the original cost, including the fee,” he said.

Klein noted that failure to report income could result in an IRS audit, which could result in taxes, penalties and interest.

His suggestion: Take your time to maintain a detailed record of ticket purchases and sales. Sellers must keep receipts, reviews, or screenshots of all transactions in case the IRS requests certification. You will pay taxes on profits that exceed your costs.

Occasionally ticket sales are generally treated as a sale of personal items, Klein told the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA Today network.

“Losses from resale of tickets purchased for personal use cannot be deducted and cannot be used to offset the profits from selling other tickets.”

If you purchase tickets with the intention of reselling regularly, the IRS may classify this as a business activity, Klein said. In such cases, you may be eligible to deduct related expenses from Schedule C. The IRS takes into account factors such as frequency of sales, intention to make a profit from an activity, and determining whether it is a business or not.

How 1099-K Form Works

First, some history: just a few years ago there was a very high threshold for issuing a tax form called 1099-K. Tax forms were sent only to those who received more than $20,000 from a sale and made more than 200 transactions on third-party payment processing platforms prior to 2023.

These platforms have sent copies of 1099-K to both the IRS and taxpayers.

The 2021 American Rescue Plan Act had to revamp the reporting requirements for third-party networks, and trigger 1099-K if there were transactions over $600.

The lower threshold meant a larger paper mark for the Internal Revenue Service to track taxable transactions.

However, I never saw a 1099 ks flood at the $600 threshold. The IRS continued to delay implementation of the $600 threshold, instead better managed the administrative challenge of issuing millions of tax forms to people who have never received them, step by step, step by step, at different thresholds.

For example, earlier this year, ticket sellers were warned that if they sell tickets, other products, or online online, in 2025, they would receive 1099-K from credit card companies, payment apps and online markets during next year’s tax season.

The threshold was set to plummet to more than $600 in 2026 sales.

But wait, like I said, the rules are changing again.

When you are issued 1099-K now

The tax and expenditure package signed into law this summer has changed reporting requirements for Form 1099-K.

“We’re looking forward to seeing you in the future,” said Mark Luscombe, principal analyst at Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting in River Woods, Illinois.

These thresholds are important.

For example, a change in the rules means that if sellers are short on any component (for example, if they win a sales of between $15,000 and $50 per year), then the total sales are not generating 1099‑ K, and Tom O’Saben is a tax fund and government relations agent and director of government relations for the National Association of Tax Professionals.

“Casual ticket resellers, such as ticket holders for the Lions Season, will not receive the 1099-K unless they cross that high and high-portion threshold in a year,” Osaben said.

However, Osaben warns that there may be some issues. Some payment processors could choose to issue 1099-ks below legal thresholds as a conservative measure to simplify compliance and maintain uniform reporting, he said.

He then warned that mistakes will occur in false records, duplicate accounts, or misclassifications that can generate forms of amounts under thresholds.

Additionally, Osaben said a few states have a lower own 1099-K threshold, including Massachusetts, Vermont and Virginia. In these states, for example, sellers could still see 1099-K under $600, regardless of federal law.

Although each platform reports separately, Osaben said that if the seller is close to the thresholds of different platforms, the platform may issue forms, even if each platform is under the $20,000 and 200 transaction marks.

Sellers flagged as “business” or “professional” sellers on the platform may obtain 1099-K forms at lower internal thresholds, even if they do not reach federal restrictions.

O’Saben said it’s best not to ignore 1099-K even if you get 1099-K, because 1099-K also received the documents, even if you receive 1099-K.

1099-K shows only your receipts and not profit. Therefore, the numbers displayed in 1099-K may not be entirely taxable. That’s why you need a good record.

Prepare to be confused

Without a doubt, taxpayers may be more perplexed than ever, especially if they pay attention to previously announced changes to the 1099-K rule that are not currently being made.

Luscombe said the IRS has announced that it will not adjust the 1099 form for changes to the mega tax bill until 2026.

“If the IRS does not update the 2025 1099-K instructions, the 1099-K instructions could be confusing for taxpayers as they could refer to the 2025 $2,500 filing threshold if the threshold is actually much higher,” Luscombe said.

According to Luscombe, the same $20,000 and 200 transaction thresholds will apply in 2026. Things aren’t too confusing as the IRS has pledged to update the 1099-K form when you file your 2026 tax return in 2027.

The IRS had yet to update some of the 1099-K tips as of late August, weeks after Trump signed the law on his tax and spending package.

Again, the new rules do not change what counts as income or how taxes are calculated.

Technically, profits are taxed, whether you receive 1099-K or not. Whether you’re talking about selling college soccer tickets or choosing a closet, you can borrow taxes on income that exceeds the cost of what you sell.

“Whether you receive Form 1099-K or not, the IRS states online: “You must report your income on your tax return, which includes payment for the items you sell (including personal items such as clothing and furniture) or the services you provide.”

If you sell an old leather blazer for $150 and originally paid $600, you won’t face a tax bill, for example. You lost $450 in that transaction and casual sellers cannot claim losses to reduce their tax bill.

Reselling platforms such as StubHub, Ticketmaster, Etsy, and eBay all list information online online about when to send 1099-K. But you need to look at your numbers and know more about when you are about to borrow taxes and when you are not.

Federal judges stop the deportation of unaccompanied Guatemalan children

0

play

On August 31, a federal judge blocked the Trump administration from deporting 10 unaccompanied immigrant Guatemalan children, putting potentially hundreds of them under federal custody.

For 14 days after the National Immigration Law Center filed an emergency request, Judge Sparkle L. Souknanan issued a temporary restraining order to stop the Trump administration from banishing children aged 10-17.

Immigrant children arriving in the United States without a parent or guardian are classified as unaccompanied minors and sent to shelters managed by the Refugee Resettlement Office and are outlined in federal law until they can be placed with family and foster homes.

Efren C. Olivares, an attorney for the National Center for Immigration Law, welcomed the judge’s decision.

“During the late night on a holiday weekend, the Trump administration tore vulnerable and scared children out of bed and attempted to bring them back to danger in Guatemala,” Olivares said in a statement. “We have the courts in mind that prevented this injustice from occurring before hundreds of children commit irreparable harm.”

The lawsuit alleges that the administration’s plan to expel children violates protections under the federal law, passed in 2008, under the Re-authorization Act on Protection of Trafficking Victims. The lawsuit also said the government was “mischievously planning” them for a flight to Guatemala.

According to the lawsuit, one of the children, the plaintiff, identified as LGML, is a 10-year-old Guatemalan child “speaks rare languages indigenous peoples.” She was detained in Urban Strategy, a child shelter in San Benito, Texas.

“Her mother has passed away and she suffered from abuse and neglect from other caregivers,” the lawsuit alleges.

The lawyer said he has around 600 children who could be at risk of deportation.

Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security, Stephen Miller, and President Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration crackdown, denounced Souknanan’s decision.

“Judge Biden effectively lures these immigrant children and refuses to return to their parents in their home countries,” Miller said on social media.

In March, the Trump administration cancelled a $200 million legal representation contract for 26,000 children who crossed the US border as unaccompanied minors.

Southwest Airlines will fly its first jet at a secondary cockpit barrier

The flight marks the beginning of the deployment of safety features across the new US commercial airline fleet.

Southwest Airlines began flying its first jet on Friday with a secondary barrier to flight decks designed to prevent intrusions.

Airplane – The Boeing 737 Max 8, delivered recently in the days, took off from Phoenix to Denver on Friday afternoon, the airline said.

Secondary barriers – The attack on September 11, 2001 has long been sought after exposing the risk of inadequate flight deck protection, but the pilots’ union claims it is important for aviation safety.

The flight is a milestone marking the beginning of the deployment of safety features in the new US commercial airline fleet over the next few years.

Boeing and Airbus told Reuters they have begun delivering planes with barriers under Federal Aviation Administration regulations announced in 2023.

Last month, the FAA agreed to airlines until late July 2026 to use barriers on newly delivered planes. Most major airlines plan to leverage extensions for their FAAs and not start using barriers anytime soon.

Southwest has chosen to start observing soon to receive new plane delivery, and is hoping to deliver around 25 additional Boeing planes with barriers this year.

“We felt we could get it done as soon as the aircraft was ready and put it in production,” said Justin Jones, vice president of operations at Southwest.

After four US planes were hijacked on September 11, 2001, the FAA adopted the security standards for flight decks to make them resistant to forced intrusions and fraudulent entry.

The FAA rules require aircraft manufacturers to install a second physical barrier on new planes used in US commercial passenger services, but do not require modifications to existing planes. Aircraft manufacturers without FAAs are certified as barriers, but do not yet need to be compliant.

Performance EVs are some of the fastest cars ever: What do you know

0

play

Today, the fastest cars on the road may not be equipped with gas-fouling V8s or twin-turbo V6s. For adrenaline addicts who want to take off as quickly as possible from the red light, electric vehicles may be the best for top speeds.

And to satisfy the Speed Demon, automakers began filling the market with sporty performance-first EVs. From long-standing recognizable nameplates to EV startups, many brands offer electrified vehicles that are suitable for drivers who want vehicles that can push serious power while experiencing the benefits of driving an electric vehicle.

Why choose a performance EV?

The biggest attraction for drivers looking for high performance is that electric vehicles are now some of the fastest vehicles on the road.

What is the reason for such a speed? Instant torque.

The EV can quickly push peak power into the wheel, thus allowing faster acceleration than its gas-powered counterparts. Even the most powerful internal combustion engines require time for valves to burn fires and gases to utilize all the power.

Meanwhile, the EV wakes up and goes second to push gas – er, electricity? – Pedal.

In addition to the thrill of more power, ownership of EVs is becoming easier. In the US, electric vehicle infrastructure makes it plausible to make EVs long haul. EVs are becoming a reasonable choice if access to charging stations is even worse and engineers are scrambling to subtract as much as possible from the battery motor.

What are some notable performance EVs?

There are many options in the Performance EV segment, but these are some of the most notable options.

  • 2025 Charger Daytona Scat Pack (Price: $68,195, Horsepower: 670, Range: EPA Estimated 241 Miles)
  • 2025 Tesla Model S Plaid (Price: $94,990, Horsepower: 1,020, Range: EPA Estimated 368 Miles)
  • 2026 Cadillac Lyriq-V (Price: $78,595, Horsepower: 615, Range: EPA Estimated 285 Miles)
  • 2025 Mercedes AMG-EQS (Price: $148,495, Horsepower: 751, Range: EPA Estimated 277 Miles)
  • 2025 Audi RS E-Tron GT (Price: $168,295, Horsepower: 912, Range: 278 miles estimated by EPA)
  • 2026 Porsche Teikan Turbo S Cross Turismo (Price: $178,295, Horsepower: 871, Range: 270 miles)

What are the drawbacks of owning a performance EV?

High performance is costly. High power output of gasoline engines involves low fuel economy trade-offs, and many performance EVs produce high performance against the disadvantages of the range.

Furthermore, EVs are generally more expensive than vehicles with traditional powertrains at all levels of performance, and models certainly require a significant penny when they increase performance.

Previously, EV buyers could knock $7,500 from the sticker price for a new EV (or $4,000 from a used EV) for the federal tax credit passed by then-President Joe Biden. But earlier this year, President Donald Trump’s massive, beautiful bill law eliminated EV tax credits, and the program expired on September 30th.
