Ketamine therapy, teen depression, and what’s really happening?

Jacintha was at the end of her wisdom. Her daughter was struggling and they tried everything – two types of antidepressants, years of talk therapy, and a multi-week intensive outpatient program.

One night, she was desperately Googleing when she came across an article about ketamine therapy. Although jacintha, a horse rider, was well versed in ketamine as a horse tranquilizer, he had never heard it as the ultimate mental health treatment for treatment-resistant patients like Lucy, who was diagnosed with depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

There was only one. Most ketamine users are over 30. Lucy was only 16 years old.

“When people are desperate, you’re ready to take the desperate steps,” says Jacintha, who asked her to withhold her last name to protect her daughter’s medical privacy. “I think a child who is struggling just as hard as Lucy is struggling would want to do it.”

Ketamine therapy has become popular in recent years and, if selected, is used to treat young people. Doctors say they can provide life-saving support if other drugs fail, but there are risks including the possibility of dependency when administered inappropriately. Despite the potential risk, some young users and their families say attempts to treat controversially better than being stuck in the current situation.

Dozens of Reddit commenters have spoken about seeking care for minors, but most USA Today refused to make it on the record for fear of stigma.

“The harmful effects on the brain grown in severe treatment-resistant depression are far worse than the risks associated with very sporadic administration of these low-dose ketamine,” he adds, however, that should be a last resort, as there is little research into the effects of ketamine therapy on younger adults.

How ketamine therapy works in the brain

A few months after a Google search, Jacintha and Lucy proceeded to Bellevue, Ketamine Clinic, northwest Bellevue, Washington. There, Lucy began the first of 12 ketamine infusion sessions managed in December and May 2023.

The doctors were explaining how ketamine infusion works. Chemicals bind to receptors in the brain, disrupting the brain’s connection to the body, leading to a disconnected, in vitro sensation that can cause Lucy to experience separation from reality.

During that first session, Jacintha held Lucy’s hand and was cautiously optimistic. Things got worse before they got better, and Lucy experienced mood swings and random anger. But after the seventh session it seemed like something “a complete shift.”

This therapy helped her manage self-harm and contamination-triggered OCDs. Before ketamine therapy, when she heard someone cough or breathe loudly in the classroom, she went into panic mode and eventually dropped out of school. At home, she never entered the kitchen downstairs. I was overwhelmed by the fridge, dirty dishes and the smell of the food.

After the injection, “I felt better than ever,” says Lucy. “It really changed my mood very much. I generally had a higher level of functionality every day. I was not always depressed.”

Representatives from the Northwest Ketamine Clinic say their clinic does not treat people under the age of 14, but there is growing interest from parents seeking to treat teenagers.

According to Krystal, ketamine works by stimulating the brain’s resilience mechanism. Chemicals target different systems in the brain than standard antidepressants, causing the release of glutamate and stimulate the growth of new synapses between brain cells.

“Brain plasticity – the ability to learn, adapt, and respond – becomes impaired by depression,” says Crystal. “Even a single dose of ketamine can have a positive effect on this type of plasticity, which could lead to psychotherapy and (other) types of interventions.”

Laura Picard, 23, turned to ketamine therapy in search of relief. She has been fighting depression and anxiety since she was 15 years old and cycled medications such as Prozac and Wellbutrin. In 2022, her father died of an overdose, and just 16 months later, her mother died of suicide.

After her mother’s death, she suspended her education at Baylor University and returned to Los Angeles, where she began working with a counselor specializing in losses. She explained that she was wearing glasses for the first time since she was suffering from depression.

“Before ketamine, everything was spent five times more effort on me to do because of depression,” Picard says. “After getting ketamine treatment, I wanted to wake up and do things. I had the energy.”

Since then, Picard has had three maintenance sessions, but she believed she helped her return to school last year to earn her degree.

“I still get the feeling that I was a little too young for it.”

When Crystal began researching ketamine in the 1990s, it was still known as a horse tranquilizer or by the street name Special K. Most notably, drug abuse was associated with the death of Matthew Perry after using ketamine under the care of a doctor to treat depression.

The most common short-term side effects of ketamine therapy are dizziness and nausea, but in extreme cases, the long-term use of ketamine is linked to memory problems, gastrointestinal problems and urinary tract infections, according to the Institute for Substance Abuse.

A 2017 case study from the Yale Children’s Research Center found that within 24 hours of receiving treatment infusion, depressive symptoms in adolescents aged 13 to 17 years of age with treatment-resistant depression, with improvement lasting at least two weeks.

Dr. Ryan Sultan, a psychiatrist specializing in ketamine treatment in integrative psychiatry, said: “The younger the brain, the less it is formed, so there is a higher chance of negative effects.”

Lucy doesn’t regret ketamine therapy, but says it’s a bigger step than she noticed at the time.

“I still get the feeling that I was a little too young for it,” says Lucy.

Krystal said ketamine is most effective in a very narrow dose range. Doubled doses lead to more side effects, but more effectiveness, and halving doses will result in less effectiveness of antidepressants. He has seen examples of misuse that people start using ketamine eight times a day, exacerbating depression.

Lucy and Picard are treated through intravenous (IV) ketamine therapy. This is legal but off-label use of the drug. According to Sultan, the only FDA-approved form of treatment is an esketamine nasal spray known as Spravato, but the majority of ketamine therapy administered is via IV. Neither form is FDA approved for children.

As a result, the field of ketamine therapy is unregulated. Hundreds of independent outpatient ketamine clinics have emerged across the country after the FDA approved escamine in 2019. These clinics may employ a mixture of anesthesiologists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and therapists, but quality and safety vary from clinic to clinic.

Insurance rarely covers IV ketamine therapy, and users pay hundreds of pockets per session.

Crystal warns that people who use ketamine for treatment outside of clinics often do it inappropriately. Most of the ketamine distributed in the United States is illegal, according to the Drug Enforcement Bureau.

“Because adolescents are at a higher risk of addiction issues, the concerns I raise about people who have access to ketamine at home is growing even more for youth,” Crystal says.

Jacintha initially worried about introducing her ketamine sensation to Lucy, but she spoke with Lucy about the dangers of seeking that sensation in a clinical setting.

“Do I misrepresent her the euphoria that she might want to continue pursuing in other ways?” Jacinto says. “If she has no access to ketamine and still wants to go back to the feeling that ketamine has given her, will that lead her to other kinds of substance abuse?”

Why is ketamine therapy not a treatment?

Since April 2023, Lucy has been using one maintenance session every six months in combination with talk therapy and antidepressants.

“Even today, I can rely on stress and mood. But I think the biggest reason why OCD is more manageable is because depression is more manageable,” says Lucy.

Still, Jacintha said he hoped they saw greater results, warning that it was not a miraculous cure.

“This is the cannonball we were looking for and we wanted to open and blow all of this out, but it wasn’t,” Jacinto said.

Ultimately, Lucy and Jacintha knew the risks of ketamine therapy. However, they agreed that the side effects would be pale compared to the struggles Lucy was experiencing.

“I chose to give my child ketamine, so if I think I’m a bad parent, I’ll invite you to live and live my life,” says Jacinto. “When you see a child full of such serious mental anguish and drowning every day, you are stuck in hope.

Donald Trump, Jeffrey Epstein, birthday letters. Did he sign it?

  • The birthday notes that Donald Trump allegedly wrote to Jeffrey Epstein were published by the House Oversight Committee.
  • This letter was part of a book that contained many notes and letters given to Epstein on his 50th birthday in 2003.
  • Trump and his team consistently denied the credibility of the letter, calling it a fake, and filed a lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal for initial reporting.

The House Oversight Committee has released a birthday note to Jeffrey Epstein, which is allegedly written by President Donald Trump.

Part of Epstein’s wider note book released on September 8th, the letter shows the mysterious conversation between “Jeffrey” and “Donald” surrounded by the contours of a woman, and the signature that was supposed to be signed in a public hair location.

The Wall Street Journal filed a lawsuit from the president who reported on the letter in July and called the story “false, malicious, and honourable.”

Even after the birthday letter was posted, the White House continued to call the letters fake. Here’s what you need to know about the new release:

See Epstein’s birthday letter allegedly signed by Trump

Trump’s letter to Epstein was part of a book that contained dozens of other letters presented to Epstein in 2003 for his 50th birthday. Democrats on the committee posted the letters alone before Republican leaders posted the entire book.

Donald Trump Signature: See image

Several well-known Republican influencers have questioned the validity of the letter, saying that the signature of the birthday letter appears to be different from the president’s signature.

An analysis in The New York Times notes that the signature of the letter reflects more closely the others from that period when Trump signs only in his name, not in the first and last.

Here are other images of Trump’s signature:

The check from 2017 concluded evidence during Trump’s hash money trial in New York.

“Mysteries never age:” What does mysteries mean?

The letter reads, “Enigma never gets old, have you ever noticed?” This line is attributed to the “Donald” in this mock conversation.

According to Merriam-Webster, “Enigma” is difficult to understand. It could also be a “mysterious person,” or an “ambiguous speech or writing.”

What did Trump say when the letter was first reported?

Trump previously refused to write the letter and sued the Wall Street Journal for reporting the letter in July. He said the letter was “fake” and that defendants Dow Jones & Company, News Corporation, owners Rupert Murdoch and reporters Kadilla Safdar and Joseph Palazzolo have been appointed in a lawsuit seeking $10 billion in damages.

“The Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch personally warned me directly by President Donald J. Trump that the supposed letter Trump printed to Epstein was fake and that if they printed it they would be sued,” Trump said in a true social post.

“These aren’t my words, they’re not the way I speak, and I don’t draw,” he said in another post.

Has Trump signed the letter? This is what his team says

Trump’s team continues to deny that the letter is from Trump.

“It’s very clear that President Trump wasn’t drawing this picture, as I’ve been saying, and he didn’t sign it,” the Carolyn Leavitt news agency said in a social media post on September 8th.

“That’s not his signature. A honour and loss!” White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budwich was posted on social media.

As lawmakers turn their eyes to voting to release all the files on Epstein, Trump calls the effort “a Democrat hoax.”

Charlie Kirk wants to have a child for a young woman, not a career

0

play

Conservative influencer Charlie Kirk believes that young women should be more involved in having babies (and less chasing their career goals).

Turning Point USA founder, 31, appeared on Fox News’ Ingraham Angle on September 8th, talking to host Lowline Graham about “Gen Z Gender Split.”

“This is a pattern I’ve seen over and over again on college campuses where young men are properly ordering their lives,” Kirk said.

In recent years, some right-footed, far-right influencers have pushed the narrative surrounding the nostalgia of the “nuclear family” and the idea that women may not be able to get it all at least once.

He said the man was making the right choice.

“They have children first and foremost, they are married, after that Kirk added. He also said that the young woman who voted for former vice president of Kamala Harris “doesn’t value having children.”

“Young people get married less and less,” Kirk said. “We see more and more people enter their 30s to have children.” Ingraham, 62, has never married. She is a single parent of three children.

After working as a speechwriter in the administration of former President Ronald Reagan, Ingraham pursued a law degree and became a beloved conservative media. In 2008, Ingraham adopted his first child from Guatemala. Guatemala is currently a Texas A&M student. She also adopted two sons.

Charlie Kirk: Young woman who voted for Harris wants “solitude”

But Kirk wasn’t necessarily talking about women like her. He said, “young women who voted for Kamala Harris, they want careerism, consumerism and loneliness,” but “want Trump voters, young men, families, children and heritage.”

Ingraham then asked, “Charlie, what advice would you give to a young woman who was taught to put a career in place before thinking about calming down or having a child?” Kirk said, “No matter how I answer this question, I’m always struggling” – “Having children is more important than having a good career.”

The two fathers then used their own life examples to say, “My kids are more important than the number of social media followers I have.”

His advice continued. “And I will tell you young women too. You can always return to your career. There are mainly windows to marry and have children, and that’s beautiful.”

“This is not shameful, it’s not about ridiculing, it’s not about morality. It’s about lifting up beautiful things,” Kirk said.

Charlie Sheen’s memoir reveals drugs, sex workers, divorce and drinking

  • Charlie Sheen’s memoir, “The Book of Sheen” (now now) gives a candid look at the actor’s life.
  • The 60-year-old Scene opens up about the misuse of drugs and alcohol that have wreaked havoc on his health and career.
  • Sheen revisits the exit of his “2 and a half year old man.” His role was in the takedown of Mrs. Heidi Fleece in Hollywood, and in that infamous time when he accidentally thought he was “winning.”

Charlie Sheen’s decades-long career began with an offense. He and co-stars George Clooney and Laura Dern served as snacks for the angry bear in the 1983 horror film Grizzly II: Revenge.

However, over the years, the scene born in Carlos Irwin Estevez has starred in more headlines than film and television episodes. The son of actor Martin Sheen (Ramon Antonio Gerald Estevez) and the younger brother of Emilio Estevez are just as well known as his 20/20 interview with drug and alcohol addiction, three marriages and divorces, his love for sex workers, and his sacking from CBS’s Emmy-winning comedy “Two Men” in an interview with “Half of Two” from CBS’s Emmy-winning comedy “Two Men”. The veins and myself were not bipolar, declared, “Second-class. I win here, I win there.”

Now 60 years old, Sober’s Sheen looks back on it all on September 9th in his memoir, The Book of Sheen.

Charlie Sheen’s memoir reveals mischief with fellow actors and sex workers

“The Book of Sheen” begins the evening of his birth, when an umbilical cord wrapped around his neck threatened his life. “Beat me like I owe him money,” Sheen wrote, Dr. Irwin Shaborn, who has obtained his middle name.

The scene grew up among some of Hollywood’s most famous people, sharing everything from the seemingly mediocre thing (while eating spaghetti with Maron Brando, his father filmed “Apocalypse Now”) to the truly unique ones (skip rehab and go to a bikini contest with his friend Nicholas Cage). Sheen recalls making a childhood film with Emilio and Chris Penn (“Footloose”, “Reservoir Dog”) playing ping-pong with “Classless Bully” OJ Simpson in front of Ava Gardner and Sofia Lauren, knocking “a circle from the drink cart” on an airplane with George Clooney.

Sheen openly writes about losing her virginity as a high school sophomore to a Vegas escort (paid with her father’s credit card), and openly writes about buying two sex dolls for more than a pop, getting liposuction after a sex worker called him “fat so.”

However, he writes that he does not respect the children he writes about what led to his breakup of marriage between Dennis Richards and Brook Mueller. Sheen is Cassandra’s father (profits of high school girlfriend Paula), and is 40 years old. Sami, 21, Laura, 20 (with Richards); twins Max and Bob, 16 (with Mueller).

Charlie Sheen says Crack took him to “another galaxy.”

Sheen first tried marijuana at 11 and cocaine at high school, he wrote. He stuck to the latter after filming Oliver Stone’s best photo winner, “The Platoon” (1986).

“The main issue with the drug for me was how unning it was,” Sheen wrote. “I’m dealing with things that aren’t cocaine all day, and the next moment I get launched into my hair obsession to put the medicine into my bloodstream.”

But the crack was the drug that Sheen said made him the most engrossed. He first tried it in 1992, and wrote it and put it in “Another Galaxy.”

“People insist that the greatest emotions of their lives are “the first step of my child” or “save that child from fire,””Sheen writes. “Quote Matt Hooper from ‘Jaws’: I got that beat. ”

“Failing My Child” Charlie Sheen helped to calm down

Sheen couldn’t protect his substance abuse during set. He experienced “32 hours of cocaine nosebleed” on the set of “Money Talks” (1997). At home, he overdoses while injecting cocaine. His famous friend begged him to get help. Guns n’ Roses guitarist Slash told Sheen that he “I’ve never seen anyone need to rehabilitate more than you.” It was a 2017 car ride with his daughter Sami, which prompted him to calm down for reality. Sheen was drinking and had to ask a friend to drive him and take Sami to her appointment.

“There was only one thing that made me feel worse than betray myself, but it was making my child go wrong,” Sheen writes. “In that car, that day, with my best friend and the child I worshiped, I saw a man who joined Sam in those mirrors and was eager to finally return home for the real thing.” The next day, December 11th, Sheen ingested, “I drank two bariums and three beers.” On December 12th, he “stop drinking forever” on Cassandra’s birthday. Sheen has said that for almost eight years, mainly family.

Charlie Sheen calls his HIV diagnosis “shocking and depressing.”

Before his 2011 diagnosis, Sheen experienced a “non-stop cluster” of headaches and a “delusional night sweats that redefine the “waterbed.” The HIV revelation left him speechless.

“As shocking and depressing as my new position, I write, “Relief. The relief of knowing the whole discipline of high-tech medicine is at my disposal to make the asshole submissive.”

A few days after he and his friends tried Sunset Boulevard for a cheeseburger and cigarette, he said, “It brought us the usual first rays, and by that, actual hope.

Sheen says he thinks about his illness, “One time a day for 20 seconds, because I have to do it, it takes time to eat the poison that tames evil lumps.”

Charlie Sheen says testosterone cream, not drugs, led to the infamous “winning” interview.

When sitting with Andrea Canning for ABC News’ “20/20” in March 2011, Sheen was overwhelmed as if Housefly was being chased, but passed a drug test. Sheen writes that his unstable behavior was caused by “the testosterone cream I was screaming for with a heart-changing gob.” He used it and said, “To bring my body back to shape, I was in shape, unaware that I was in shape. The drug is known to be metabolized to the same psyche profile. Anabolic steroids should be there as details that may have been confused with other potential Suspect basin lists.”

Sheen believes in his colorful language during an interview with former major league pitcher Brian Wilson. “Thirty seconds after the call, BW writes._. (I don’t need to write that seven letter word. You can already hear it say it, it has that particular inflection and the rhythm of Bedram Mountain.) …I was so jacked by Krazy Kreem.

Why Charlie Sheen was fired from his “two-and-a-half-man”

Season 8 of CBS’ comedy was unexpectedly wrapped in February 2011. Previously in November, Sheen filed for divorce from his third wife, Mueller, saying, “I was paralyzed from both the spirit and the dope, and from both the dope, I put my brain in the shower and resigned from complaining. There are still eight episodes in the production schedule, and a screeching halt.”

Sheen writes that he rejected an offer from CBS chairman and CEO Les Moonves to fly into rehabilitation using Warner’s private jet. Chuck Roll of the series blows up the scene as a “polluted little maggot,” replacing it with Ashton Kutcher. Lorre and Sheen have made corrections since then.

Heidi Fleis: “Women felt like ‘Christmas morning’ Charlie Sheen

Sheen says that in June 1992 he first found Heidi Millis with a group of beautiful women at a club on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. On a subsequent call with Madame, Sheen agreed to “12 Grands for the Two Women from Midnight.”

Every time Fleiss’ sex workers arrived, she said, “I felt like 100 Christmas mornings at one time, at my favorite age since I was a child. It was an unknown mystery, wrapped in a messy prank of secrets that I had to stay in the shadows.”

Sponsorship of Sheen’s Fleiss services suddenly stopped after an arrest in June 1993. The scene, who wrote a check on a deal with her, “cutting down transactions for exemption” and recorded his testimony outside the trial, but in front of Milling. He remembers she staring at the scene “with a look of betrayal and sadness.” Fleiss worked for 20 months at a federal correctional facility in Dublin, California before being released in 1998. According to Sheen, he and Fleiss have not spoken, but will appear in the Netflix documentary.

Georgia Battery Factory Raid reveals new Trump targets

0

The federal e-verify system should help employers determine whether workers are legal, but its use is not necessarily necessary.

play

Behind the shocking sight of hundreds of Korean workers who are being held chains and detained at a Georgia battery factory is a company that employs other targets in the Trump administration: illegal workers.

President Donald Trump has launched a drastic migrant raid with the promise of achieving the largest massive deportation in history, but executives have taken more difficult boundaries for employers who say they cheat American workers by hiring undocumented immigrants.

Since 1986, employers have requested that workers be verified for their job eligibility and may be fined or imprisoned if they knowingly break the law. However, enforcement has usually focused on workers rather than people who employ them.

Because company owners and managers are rarely charged or punished, Trump officials say some employers are willing to exploit hopeless workers through low wages and dangerous working conditions. Some employers argue that American workers are happy enough to do the toughest jobs at the wages they provide.

Since January, the Trump administration has targeted workers in car washes and attacks at marijuana farms in California, Louisiana Racecourse, construction sites in Florida, and Nebras Kameet Packing Factory. Additionally, these enforcement actions have not yet been translated into criminal cases or fines against employers, but in some cases the attack itself has significantly disrupted business operations.

However, the administration also fined two multi-million-dollar Colorado cleaning companies for employing dozens of undocumented workers, and won criminal charges in two other schemes to employ illegal labor in Arizona and Ohio.

Officials declined to comment on what they said was an aggressive criminal investigation at the Georgia factory. This was partly caused by complaints from local trade unions that foreign workers were filling their jobs.

Attack at a factory that makes batteries for Hyundai

The new push complicates the president’s efforts to rebuild American manufacturing as it could be pushed to expanding foreign companies to expand in the US amid the ongoing workforce shortage in many industries.

Citing a few months of crime workplace investigation, federal officials on September 4 attacked the HL-GA Battery Company project about 30 miles northwest of Savannah, detaining nearly 500 workers. The majority of the employees detained were Koreans who lacked permission to work in the United States.

“We welcome all businesses that want to invest in the US. If they need to bring workers for construction and other projects, that’s fine, but they need to do that in a legal way,” a special agent for Stephen Schrank, a Homeland Security Investigation in Georgia and Alabama, said at a press conference following the raid. “This operation sends a clear message that those who misuse the system and undermine our workforce are responsible.”

So far, only detained workers have faced punishment. They were frothed into the migrant detention scene for deportation. South Korean officials say they are working with the US State Department to voluntarily deport around 300 detained South Korean citizens. South Korean media reported that workers could return home on charter flights on September 10th.

Treatment of Korean workers is in stark contrast to the experiences of tens of thousands of Mexicans, Venezuelans and Guatemalans who have faced for months in prison-like detention centers before being forced to deport.

In addition, workplace enforcement measures have been rare in recent years, so attacks are also outstanding. HSI records show that employers can be brought to trial, but the Trump administration has recently injected new urgency into these cases, issued millions of dollars in fines, and filed criminal cases against employers across the country.

Researchers from Brian Oosley, an associate professor of law at the University of North Texas Dallas School of Law, found that employers with fewer than 200 employers were charged for employing illegal labor. He said the Biden administration has largely stopped attacks on employers.

Manufacturing experts say the US workforce lacks some of the technical expertise that Koreans and other international workers possess. And their expertise is necessary to enhance production in this country. The battery plants will be provided to the adjacent Hyundai Metaplant Car Factory. The project received millions with state and local tax incentives after committing to creating thousands of new jobs.

Federal officials say they are looking closely at the workplace

Federal agents say the attack is the result of months of investigation into employment practices at the site, but court documents do not provide evidence that many Koreans are not aware of the work there. Instead, only four people listed as specific targets in the search warrant have Hispanic names.

The Department of Homeland Security and ICE did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the search warrant details or the four “target persons” listed.

In a social media statement on September 7th, Trump acknowledged that his immigration crackdown complicated his goal of regaining manufacturing. Since January, the White House has promoted hundreds of billions of dollars of commitments from foreign companies like modern-day co-owned with LG.

“…I’m asking all foreign companies investing in the US to respect our country’s immigration laws,” Trump said. “Your investment is greatly appreciated. And we recommend that you bring very smart people legally to build world-class products and build world-class products. And we make it possible for you to do so quickly and legally.

Border Emperor Tom Homan put on a more combative tone. Federal officials have already attacked car washes and marijuana farms in California, racetracks in Louisiana, construction sites in Florida, and meat filling factories in Nebraska.

“We’re going to do more workplace enforcement businesses,” Homan told CNN. “No one will hire illegal aliens out of their good heart. They will hire them because they can work harder, pay less and take away the competition to hire American citizens.”

Employers are rarely charged with undocumented employment.

Analysis of data from the US Census shows that the US Immigration Council estimates that at least 6% of manufacturing workers nationwide are undocumented. They make up 7% of Georgia’s manufacturing workforce.

Employers are rarely charged with hiring illegal workers. Federal law provides a $3,000 fine and provides prisons for up to six months, but is only enforced if federal employees find that their employer has committed a “pattern or practice” in which employees are not legally permitted to legally work in the United States.

In other words, it is a felony for a worker to provide a false paper, but employers have little incentive to scrutinize the papers. Instead, they can appeal for ignorance and almost always avoid punishment.

The federal e-verify system should help employers to check if an employer has a work permit, but it is up to the state to decide whether to request that it be used. A review analysis of the world population shows that fewer than half of the states are required to use e-verify for citizens and some private employers.

e-verify is not insane. Foreign workers can also easily create high quality fake documents.

Maine police departments were recently allowed to work with the federal e-verify system, but were entangled with the White House over the employment of officers who were later found illegally in the country.

In that case, Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that while the e-verify system is an important tool, using it “does not allow basic background checks to be performed to verify legal status.”

Famous companies often don’t face great consequences

The law is featured in the book to prosecute or punish employers who hire undocumented workers, but federal prosecutors rarely follow famous companies, Owsley said.

In April, the Trump administration fined two Denver-based cleaning companies $6.2 million and $1 million for employing dozens of unlicensed workers, respectively. That same month, prosecutors ordered the seizing of millions of dollars on 14 properties, seven bank accounts and 15 vehicles from Chinese staffing companies.

They were big busts, but not companies that are common names.

“It’s used against employers with lowercase “E,” Owsley said of past workplace enforcement. “It’s not the world’s Hyundai, not the world’s Tyson. A restaurant that serves some kind of Asian food or some kind of Mexican food is a tool for federal prosecutors’ weapons that are not used by federal prosecutors.”

At a press conference on September 5th, federal agent Schrank said investigators were still trying to figure out who hired illegal workers at the Georgia construction site. He said a criminal investigation is ongoing.

“We decided through research in advance and as we certainly experienced yesterday, there was a network of subcontractors and subcontractors for subcontractors,” Schrankn said. “So the employees worked for different companies in different companies that were on the site, not only the parent company, but also the subcontractors.

JD Vance’s mom tells her own story

  • Beverly Aikins, the mother of Vice President JD Vance, shares the story of addiction and recovery.
  • Ikins’ struggle with drug use was first detailed in his son’s memoir, “Hilbilly Elegy.”
  • She currently works as a nurse at a drug addiction treatment center and has spoken publicly about her journey.

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Her son, Vice President J.D. Vance, battled substance use in the national spotlight.

Now, Beverly Eikins tells her story in her own words.

For months after Vance became vice president, Ikins spoke to several groups across the country about her substance use and recovery journey – years after Vance’s memoir, “Hilbilly Elegy,” later influenced the film.

On Monday evening, September 8th, Ikins spoke at a church in Fayette County, Ohio for a free event called “The Tale of Addiction, Hope, Recovery and Redemption.”

“I want people to know that this disease is there, so I call it ‘recovery loudly’,” she told Enquirer. “I feel that’s my mission right now. I’m on the map by him (Vance) and I’m using it.”

Ikins works as a nurse at Seacrest Recovery Center, a drug addiction treatment center in the suburbs of Cincinnati. She still lives in Middletown, Vance’s hometown, in a condominium her son bought for her.

Her event in Ohio on September 8th was hosted by a group of Republican women, but some attendees separated Ikins’ message about drinking from her son’s politics.

“She brought me to tears,” said Mercedes Williams, a Fayette County resident. “I grew up the same way. I’m recovering. She really touched me.”

Williams, 30, said she wasn’t political, but when Ikins heard she turned to Vance.

Samantha Rees, 26, who works at the county substance use recovery facility that Ikins spoke to, does not support the vice president. She brought some of her patients and was able to hear Ikins’ message.

“It helps them regardless of the politicians part,” Reese said.

After “Hillbilly Elegy,” Ikins shares her story

Vance’s 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, surged in popularity after being announced as a running companion for Donald Trump, selling more than 1.6 million copies. In the book, Vance said his Appalachian grandparents, especially his grandmother “Mummer”, provided him with stability, and his mother dealing with substance use and the confusion of multiple marriages.

At church, Ikins remembered his father as a “severe alcoholic” who abused his mother.

“I have memories of his horrible childhood of alcoholism, so I vowed not to be like him,” she said. “And I’m ten times worse.”

Ikins became a nurse when Vance and his sister were young and had a passion for it. However, after taking some due to a headache, she became obsessed with Vicodin and lost her job and nursing license to steal drugs from the hospital where she worked. After she was fired, Ikins began using heroin.

“At the end of my addiction, I lived from the car,” she said. “My kids didn’t talk to me. Both of my parents died. And I was very angry.”

Ikins began attending sobriety conferences in Middletown and heard about the calm living community in Covington, Kentucky. She moved in by getting the $385 needed for a spot from her sister and a local pastor. She said she saved her life.

Her daughter, Lindsay Lewis, was reunited with her after living in a calm facility for over a year. Meanwhile, Vance was far apart.

“My daughter was a little more tolerant than my son,” Ikins said.

Vance ultimately surprised Ikins at one of her drinking meetings. After the meeting, he told her about “Hilbilly Elegy.”

“He said, ‘Mom, I wrote a book. You’re not very positive in the book,” recalls Ikins. “This book is scheduled to be released next week, but if you want it to be cancelled, I will.”

Ikins asked his son: “Does it help you heal? Does it help you forgive me?”

“He said, ‘I think so,'” Ikins said. She told him to reveal it.

“The book has a line: ‘My mother, a woman I’ve never met,'” recalls Ikins. “That was heartbreaking.”

Their relationship was still tense after the book came out. Ikins said she was “crushed.” Vance invited her to a New York party and didn’t celebrate the New York Times bestseller list to celebrate “Hilbilly Elegy.”

Then came Netflix movies. Ikins received a call from director Ron Howard, who offers $12,000 to be portrayed by Amy Adams in the film. She told him she hung up.

“I said, ‘You want to tell me I’m a drug addicted prostitute for $12,000?!'” she said.

Ikins got a lawyer and negotiated a higher wage for the film. With the money, she was able to pay to get her nursing license back. This is a process that requires self-funded schooling and drug testing.

Ikins says that Vance’s firstborn son brought them closer

When Vance invited his mother to Columbus in 2017, it was a turning point. His wife Usha gave birth to her first child, Ewan.

“When he saw the little boy, I think he realized that he loved the boy unconditionally and would do anything for him. “I’m a drug addict, and drug addict is sick. And I’ve made a lot of mistakes, but I’ll do anything for him. I loved him unconditionally.”

“From that moment on, our relationship changed,” she said. “I started taking calls, I started receiving texts, and I know it’s the little boy’s fault.”

Vance’s mother on his politics: “JD and I disagree with everything.”

Ikins celebrated his 10th year of drinking at the White House in January. However, her new role in the political spotlight of her family, as well as public discourse and criticism about her son, sometimes tested the sense of peace she fought to raise.

Approximately a week after Vance was announced as Trump’s running mate, Ikins posted on Facebook that he would leave social media until after the election due to “vitreal and hatred” towards his son.

Recently she blocked a friend on Facebook who posted Meme Mocking Vance.

“That’s how I handle it,” she told Enquirer. “People will be like that, and I get it. It’s okay. We live in a great country where people are allowed to have different opinions. But I don’t see him as a politician. I see him as my child.”

Ikins is still navigating what it means to be a vice president’s mother, especially as he tries to spread the message of drinking that is not tied to his son’s politics. Last week she created a new public Facebook page dedicated to her speaking engagement. One of her upcoming events will include gatherings at a church in Tennessee. There, a $20 ticket will benefit your local food pantry.

“JD and I don’t agree with everything,” she said of her son’s politics. “We don’t. I have a few different opinions from him. We agree to oppose it. I’m not political. I just want to spread the word of recovery.”

Bill, Packer chasing top ranked eagle

play

  • The Super Bowl 59 Champion Eagles remained first place since their first week win.
  • However, all other teams in the top five before week one are currently moving.
  • The LA Chargers didn’t crack the top five – but they made the biggest move in the rankings.

NFL Power Rankings (previous ranks in parentheses) that enter the second week of the 2024 season:

1. Philadelphia Eagles (1): Their opening night victory was defined by Jalen (QB Hurts efficiently carves the Cowboys) and Jalen (DT Carter is efficiently kicked out with a single shot from Spittle, aiming for Dak Prescott). Both are on the field for KC-‘s Super Bowl 59 rematch along with new teammate Za’darius Smith – painful – may need to involve more of his receivers.

2. Buffalo Bills (5): QB Joshu Allen won the Sunday night MVP fight against Lamar Jackson. Buffalo won’t face another team that made the postseason in 2024, or another team that made the former MVP until the chief came to West New York in week 9.

3. Green Bay Packers (4): And they’ve already matched the totals of their 2024 victory at NFC North Games. However, with the remaining five division matchups of the pack over the last seven weeks of the schedule, this team would be wise to make lots of hay in the next nine contests.

4. Baltimore Ravens (2): They spit out yet another double-digit fourth quarter lead, scoring at least 40 points and became the first team despite rushing for at least 235 yards. This loss could come back to bite Baltimore when it’s time to seed the AFC playoff field, but don’t lose sight of the fact that Raven is likely to score 40 and run 235 with relatively regularity.

5. LosAngeles Rams (6): A week one win is great, but it’s even more important that QB Matthew Stafford survived it…and even more important, especially considering he’s at a fast pace to withstand the 51 bags this season.

6. Commander Washington (7): Clearly early, rookie RB Jacory “Bill” Croskey-Merritt is the NFC’s main rusher after scoring 82 yards in his NFL debut. It’s no wonder Brian Robinson Jr. is in San Francisco. RB Chris Rodriguez was inactive on Sunday.

7. LosAngeles Chargers (18): “September 5th will be down with charger lore,” said coach Jim Harbaugh, who defeated the chief in Brazil last week. “It was a big win.” And perhaps it was just as remarkable, seeing his team pass 60% of the time in week one, if he was Harbaugh, three yards and alone (if not the Ohio State guy).

8. Kansas City Chiefs (3): The only AFC West team to lose in week one is to look down at the barrels on a 0-2 start if they haven’t yet made it to the toes toe to Philadelphia and toes. There’s no doubt going back to the lineup and get a WR Xavier Worthy (shoulder) who had 157 receiving yards and two TDs in Super Bowl losses.

9. Pittsburgh Steelers (10): When you think you’ve seen and heard it all in the NFL, the kicker is called a “serial killer” with “low pulse speeds”. Leave it to Mike Tomlin to keep it fresh at all times. Now you understand more why seemingly activated QB Aaron Rodgers wanted to play for him.

10. TampaBay Buccaneers (12): Currently abused, yet still dominating – the NFC South Champions already have one game lead in the rest of the division that has been running since 2021.

11. Arizona Cardinals (11): A huge victory against what appears to be an overmatched opponent in New Orleans. Still, the card was 1-0 for the first time in four years.

12. Denver Broncos (8): No defense collected fewer yards (133) than in week 1 or more (6) than in week 1. This is an already dominant unit that is even better against rookie QBs. Now the Broncos need their second year quarterback to shake off what felt like a rookie return on Sunday.

13. San Francisco 49ers (13): Block plady. George Kittle. Jauan Jennings. The talented but vulnerable Christian McCaffrey. No teams look like M*a*s*h units coming out of week 1.

14. Detroit Lions (9): After losing eight assistants in the offseason, the two-time defense NFC North Champions have already lost more divisional games than they all fell in 2024. Worse, Ben Johnsonless’s offense has returned to Johnson’s inefficiency.

15. Minnesota Viking (15): Or is it Michigan? It wasn’t always pretty, but QB JJ McCarthy played when he needed it. Otherwise, he relied on a highly talented supporting cast as his team acquired Big Ten, Er NFC North and Opener.

16. Cincinnati Bengals (17): What is the big surprise they’re 1-0, or is it that the defense was primarily responsible for the victory?

17. Houston Texans (16): Their defense, anchored by Des Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr., is one of the league’s best and should have seen part of Sunday. But this is a lot of common questions, how much can you compensate for a violation that failed to find an endzone in week 1?

18. Jacksonville Jaguars (20): WR/CB Travis Hunter is a great player. But we now have to express our opinion that surrendering the future first round and second rounder to get him is a bad deal.

19. Seattle Seahawks (14): QB Sam Darnold had earned two previous starts at Lumen Field as a visitor. His 12th debut didn’t do as well, but that would likely be expected in a radically different attack from last year’s edition.

20. Atlanta Falcons (22): The team, which resourced that long incompetent pass rush during the offseason, bagged one bag at the Bucs loss on Sunday.

twenty one. New York Jets (23): After they groped for a potential victory over Pittsburgh and its former leader Aaron Rodgers, can, come, but Justin Fields looks like the 21st century quarterback the Jets have long needed, and Source Gardner looks once again part of a corner worthy of being paid to be paid like the league’s best.

twenty two. ChicagoBears (21): At least QB Caleb Williams is rushing TD, even if he leads his team in rushing yards on Monday, even if it wasn’t a major sign of this offense.

twenty three. Dallas Cowboys (25): After an amazing near miss in Philadelphia, we’ll see how long they can maintain a good vibe. This team is probably as far as QB Dak Prescott and WR Ceedee Lamb can carry it…suppose the lamb is hanging.

twenty four. LasVegas Raiders (27): They need to find a wideout (or two) who wants to be here, as Davante Adams is forced to leave, Jacobi Myers tries to do the same and bolts for retirement shortly after Amari Cooper rejoins the organization. Maybe the rookies are Thornton Jr. and Jack Bech who are those guys.

twenty five. New England Patriots (19): A disappointing opener for teams who have made many offseason adjustments. However, WR Kayshon Boutte has received a back-to-back 100-yard game after his first acquisition in the 2024 regular season finale.

26. IndianapolisColts (31): QB Daniel Jones’ indie debut naturally stole the spotlight. However, Rookie Te Tyler Warren made his dominant hand heavy in his first week performance, four times in the air and the first on the ground.

27. Cleveland Browns (30): Sunday was the franchise’s QB Joe Flaco’s sixth career start, but the second time he failed to throw for 300 yards, shy of Cincinnati with a loss of one point.

28. New York Giants (26): While fans may want to see rookie QB Jaxson Dart in the lineup, WR Malik Nabers may ultimately demand more stringent development.

29. Carolina Panthers (24): As for seeing him on the bench, as opposed to when he actually looked like the number one draft pick, like when QB Bryce Young was on the bench a year ago.

30. Tennessee Titans (29): They’re starting to be a quarterback who has never won an NFL game. They committed 13 penalties on Sunday. But somehow they were hanging along with a clearly superior team before succumbing. A better day should be ahead.

31. NewOrleans Saints (32): They’re starting to be a quarterback who has never won an NFL game. They committed 13 penalties on Sunday. But somehow they were hanging along with a clearly superior team before succumbing. A better day should be ahead.

32. Miami Dolphins (28): What did you learn about this team? Honestly… aside from the fact that Finn has a second-year corner named Stormduck on the roster. It feels like a storm, and maybe a lot of duck bombs – come in the Miami way.

The UFO is today’s hearing as the US Congress to hear more testimony. How to see

0

Here’s what you need to know about upcoming hearings about UFOs, the lack of government transparency on the topic and how to watch it live.

The UFO debate and the claim that the government knows more about them than allow it will once again fill the halls of Congress.

The House Task Force on Government Transparency is set to hold a hearing on Tuesday, September 9th, with four witnesses testifying under oath about their experience with UFOs and presenting the perception that the military is not entirely transparent about what lies behind the sightings.

“Americans deserve maximum federal transparency in UAP sightings, acquisitions and testing, and whether they pose a potential threat to American safety,” said R-Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, who chairs the task force.

“Whistleblowers who provide spending information and details on policies and procedures regarding UAP classification and declassification should be able to do so without retaliation,” Luna continued in a statement. “We look forward to hearing from witnesses about how the federal government can increase transparency and provide better answers about UAP.”

Luna’s Task Force on Federal Secret Confidentialization is a House Observation Subcommittee, which was established in February 2025 and separate from the last UFOS hearing held in November.

Here’s what you need to know about upcoming hearings entitled “Restoring public trust through UAP transparency and whistleblower protection” and how to watch live streams.

What does UFO mean?

UFO stands for unidentified flying object. This is currently the government calls it an unidentified, unusual phenomenon, or UAP. The new term is not only less condemned than UFOs, but is generic enough to reflect that many of the objects in question are found not only in the air but also in the water.

What is the UFO hearing in Congress?

During the hearing, witnesses discuss their own first-hand experience of seeing what they believed, and their knowledge of what the military and intelligence news communities may know about the phenomenon.

The hearing will include discussions about the UAP and what the Pentagon has revealed about the UAP about the new All-Domain Abnormal Resolution Office (AARO), which is tasked with investigating sightings, and what they may not have.

When to watch UAP hearings at Capitol Hill

The hearing will begin on Tuesday, September 9th at 10am.

Watch live here:

Who testifies at the Congressional UFO hearing?

Four people, including three military veterans and one journalist, will testify at the hearing.

It is as follows:

  • Jeffrey Nuxseli, US Air Force Veteran
  • Chief Alexandro WigginsNavy veterans and UAP witnesses
  • George Knappa journalist who has been widely recognized for UFO coverage. Knapp has also been featured prominently in the Netflix documentary series “Investigation Alien.”
  • Dylan Boland, US Air Force Veterans and UAP Witnesses

What happened at the November council hearing on UFOS?

The hearing follows the latest testimony in Congress halls on November 14th about an unexplained object violating US airspace and a shadowy program to recover and study fallen crafts.

During the testimony of more than two hours, journalist Michael Schellenberger testified that the source informed him that the intelligence news community owned a number of high-resolution photos and videos of the craft, unlike grainy images that have so far been declassified.

Former Military Intelligence Bureau official Lewis Elizondo has described the decades-long international arms race to acquire and reverse strange vehicles so that the government can bolster its own technology. Testimony provided in July 2023, Supporting much of David Grush from the Pentagon Intelligence Agency, Elizondo accused the Department of Defense of hiding the UFO program from Congress and accused them of diverting funds.

Elizondo has denounced the intelligence reporting community for decades of “oversecret secrets” about the UAP report.

A few days after the hearing, the leader of the Pentagon office to investigate the UFO provided his own testimony. Jon T. Kosloski, director of the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Agency (AARO), reinforced the agency’s attitude that it had not found evidence that any of the reported crafts is inherently extraterrestrial.

JJ McCarthy is resilient with a comeback victory

  • The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Chicago Bears 27-24 in the first Monday night football game of the season.
  • Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy led the second half comeback with three touchdown drives in his first career NFL start.
  • The Vikings are currently the first in franchise history to win six consecutive games in Chicago.

The first “Monday Night Football” game of the regular season featured a pair of pick quarterbacks in the 2024 first round with Caleb Williams and JJ McCarthy.

McCarthy made his draftmate better as the Minnesota Vikings beat the 27-24-year-old Chicago Bears to reach 1-0 in their younger season.

Monday was the first regular season meeting between Williams and McCarthy. It was McCarthy’s first career start. The game started Rocky for McCarthy, but he led the Vikings with three touchdown drives in the second half to lead Minnesota to victory.

The winners and losers of the NFC North Battle are:

JJ McCarthy

Growing up in the Chicago area, McCarthy started his first NFL. The first half and third quarter were rough, but he showed a lot of resilience in his comeback victory.

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell called for a conservative game for the young quarterback. McCarthy played like a young player who was overwhelmed throughout the first two quarters. He completed only five passes for 48 yards in the first half.

The second-year quarterback found a groove following a pick six in the third quarter. He led Minnesota with a three-stage touchdown drive, which brought momentum back to the Vikings’ favor in the fourth term. He gave Justin Jefferson a 13-yard touchdown strike.

On subsequent possessions, McCarthy threw a 27-yard touchdown to Aaron Jones, giving Minnesota a 20-17 lead with 9:46 left in the final quarter. He then avoided a 14-yard touchdown with his next property read option to lift the Vikings to a 27-17 advantage.

McCarthy finished with 143 yards, two touchdown passes, one interception and one rushing TD. He is the first starting quarterback with a fourth quarter comeback with over 10 points in his NFL debut since Steve Young in 1985, according to NFL research.

Vikings on the road

The Vikings won six straight games in Chicago. Minnesota’s first six-game winning streak in Chicago in franchise history.

Kevin O’Connell is 6-1 as head coach against the Bears.

Wright was on the Vikings practice team last year. He got a sweet revenge against his previous club.

The fourth-year cornerback jumped ahead of JJ McCarthy Pass, targeting Justin Jefferson in the third quarter. Wright intercepted the football and ran down the field with a 74-yard pick six. It was Wright’s first pick six of his career.

The touchdown gave the Bears momentum and lifted them to a 17-6 lead.

Wright started in place of injured cornerback Jayron Johnson.

Arlington Heights

Bears president and CEO Kevin Warren reportedly sent a letter to season ticket holders. This said the team is set to build a new fixed roof stadium in Arlington Heights. The Bears also hope to bring the Super Bowl to the stadium soon in 2031 for each NFL network.

Jim Cornelison

Cornellison sang the national anthem before the match. His production may not have been your tea (in my opinion, the performance of the boys II males in the national anthem in Game 1 of the Cowboys vs. Eagles was the best). However, Cornelison let out a loud cry from X’s NFL.

loser

Third down efficiency

Both teams struggled hard on the third down.

The bears were between 3 and 12 years old. They went 0-2 down in the final quarter. Minnesota wasn’t that good despite the victory.

The Bears attacked the second half

The second half of Chicago’s attack sank at Lake Michigan.

The bear was forced to punt four of his first five possessions after halftime. Caleb Williams led the Bears with a five-play, 65-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but the Vikings offense was able to squeeze out the game’s watch on his next possession.

Chicago’s defense equaled the scoring output of the offense in the second half, with each unit scoring one touchdown.

Williams completed just eight passes in the second half.

Do you have a question? Please send it here.

question: I will begin my final year as an undergraduate student and plan to graduate next spring. I internized the last two summers and I am ready to start my career. How soon do I need to start job hunting? – Kelsi

Answer: Great question! You are wise to think about timing – it can make all the difference in landing the right role. My advice is: Start your job hunting in the final year.

Here are some reasons why early preparations pay off:

◾Start your research today. Start by mapping the target landscape. Research companies in your preferred field are focused on their size, location, and typical recruitment season. Many companies, especially those with structured training programs, have begun recruiting in the fall for spring alumni. You don’t want to miss that window. Create a list of 20-30 companies tailored to your career goals. This will be your application roadmap.

◾Get into the recruiter’s radar early. Connect with recruiters in your industry now and be ready to get started. They can provide valuable insight into timing, market conditions, and what a company is looking for. These relationships lead to opportunities that are often not found on job boards.

◾Complete your application materials. Use this time to create a targeted resume and cover letter that effectively communicates your skills and qualifications. With experience internships, you are ahead of many of your peers. So take advantage of that. Ask your professor or advisor to review the material and provide feedback. Start collecting references now, including your internship supervisor who can talk about the quality and potential of your work.

◾Applications strategically time it time. Training programs and structured entry-level roles apply 4-6 months prior to graduation (around October/November). Ideal for other positions 3-3 months before graduation.

◾Take advantage of the resources. Build relationships with your career center – they often have inside information about when a particular company will hire on campus. Participate in job fairs, participate in professional organizations, and network with graduates in your field.

◾Research company culture. Please do not apply anywhere. Ensure that the research company’s mission, values, and employee experience aligns with your goals. You’re not just looking for a job – you’re looking for a career match that sets you up for long-term success.

The job market moves quickly, and preparation is a competitive advantage. Your internship experience has already made you stand out – it’s time to lead that momentum into the right full-time role landing. Good luck!

Former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra has been imprisoned

0

Bangkok, September 9 (Reuters) – Thailand’s influential former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was sent to prison on Tuesday.

The polarized billionaire returned from his 15 years of self-exile in August 2023, and was hospitalized after complaining of heart troubles and chest pain, stimulating widespread skepticism and public outrage.

The 2001-2006 premiere was commuted by the King for a year, and Thaksin was paroled after only six months of detention, all of which were spent on the VIP wing of the hospital before being released from his eight-year sentence for his abuse of power in one year.

A judge on Tuesday said Thaksin had no severe illness and could have been treated in prison, adding that both he and his doctors intentionally extended his hospitalization.

“The defendant either knew the facts or knew the situation was not a serious emergency. The defendant was treated as an outpatient patient and had only a chronic condition in which he did not require hospitalization.”

The Corrections Department carrying Thaksin arrived at Bangkok prison within an hour of the country-knowing sentencing, the latest drama of two weeks of political turmoil that saw the collapse of another Thaksin-backed populist government.

The 76-year-old power broker has been experiencing a period of political calculations after his daughter and protégé Paetongtarn Shinawatra were fired as prime minister on August 29th by the court.

The Paetongtarn government collapsed on Friday and was defeated by challenger Anutin Charnvirakul. Anutin Charnvirakul was elected by the Congress in the humiliating defeat of Thaksin’s former unstoppable Pheu Thai party, which won five out of the past six elections.

Thaksin, who has been heavily on Thai politics throughout the quarter-century turmoil, is Thailand’s first former prime minister sent to prison.

“Historical Day”

He accepted the verdict and said he would remain strong.

“Today, I may no longer have freedom, but I may have freedom to generate profits for the country and people,” Thaksin said in a social media statement.

Thaksin’s close relatives attended the verdict with him. Emotional Paetontarn said she was not only concerned about her father, but also proud.

“My father created a country’s history, including useful policies that benefit people,” she told reporters.

“Today is another historic day when he was the first prime minister to go to prison. This is very heavy.”

Kokau Picklson, a party MP for Fau Tai, who was in court, said Thaksin had received the verdict well.

“He still has a spirit of fighting,” he added.

Titipol Phakdeewanich, a political science professor at Ubon Ratchathani University, said despite the imprisonment and the declining influence of the Sinawatra family, the indomitable Thaksin is still trying to summon a shot of politics.

“Sent to a year’s sentence doesn’t mean he’s completely withdrawing from politics. He will still play a role within Pheu Thai,” he said.

“There is still legal way to cut his sentences, so I have doubts about him still spending all year in prison.

Is it cold in Chicago? Trump “Blitz” draws anger from immigrants

0

Officials say federal agents have arrested four people so far, all of whom have filed accusations against them. Locals say the arrests are winging fear.

play

CHICAGO — Donald Trump’s “Operation Midway Blitz” hits a hot pitch as local leaders claim immigrants are being accidentally taken down on the streets by federal agents trying to rule out violent criminals.

The White House has vehemently argued that Chicago’s operations are intended to target undocumented immigrants who commit crimes, but members of the local community say it is causing fear among law-abiding neighbours. At least four people have been arrested so far, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

“These adductions are seemingly random and agents are approaching community members on the streets,” said Ray Vence of the Illinois Union of Immigrants and Refugee Rights at a press conference. “What we are experiencing today is not normal. It’s not normal for people to go out into the streets and be snatched by their families.”

The U.S. immigration customs raid began Sunday, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Trump said federal agents target the “worst and worst” criminals who have been arrested so far, the agency’s spokesperson said in an official statement.

Chicagoans say local workers and business owners are being targeted in place of criminals.

“We never arrested the worst,” Mayor Jail Gutierrez, the city council representative for Chicago’s 14th Ward, said at a press conference Monday. Gutierrez is an immigrant from Mexico. “It’s terrifying our community, but we’re not threatened.”

The launch of the immigration attack in Chicago comes with the ruling that the U.S. Supreme Court will side with the Trump administration and that federal officials can resume indiscriminate immigration-related stops in Los Angeles, sparking racial profiling protests and accusations.

In addition to being a Democrat base, Chicago and Illinois are immigrant destinations, and according to data from today’s census, about a third of the city’s population is Hispanic.

Local politicians responded by protecting immigrants from federal law enforcement. Illinois enacted the Sanctuary State Act in 2017. Chicago has been in sanctuary protection since 1985.

Immigration rights groups are urging Chicagoans to report sightings of federal agents to the hotline. Advocates respond directly to reported sightings, distribute information about what rights people have when faced with immigration agents, and record detention if they arrive in time.

Hundreds of Homeland Security authorities are expected to operate from naval bases outside of Chicago.

Things you need to know about previous ice attacks

The charges against the four people arrested in Chicago on September 7 by Homeland Security include worsening sexual assault on a child, household batteries and armed robbery.

Immigration officers did not immediately answer questions about where the four men were charged. USA Today has not named it as it is unclear whether it was convicted of a criminal charge shared by Homeland Security.

In an official statement, the agency spokesman said, “ICE has always been operating in Chicago and targets dangerous criminal aliens portraying this sanctuary city, protecting them more than law-abiding citizens. Enforcement and public safety missions are not tolerated when we spike ice resources in the city.”

Latin neighborhoods will be shuttered before the attack

The southwest side of Chicago has long been a paradise for Mexican immigrants, and locals say people living in the area responded to the president’s attacks by taking precautions when they go out to work or simply not appearing.

“We have already seen a significant decline in people going outside,” said Huamani, a member of the Brighton Park Neighborhood Council on the southwest. “The vendors are not outside. People are scared, people are scared.”

Huamani said it is essential that people know what rights they have when faced with immigration agents, including the right to ignore immigrant status and open the door to agents who lack warrants.

“This stops agents from trying to lure us out,” she said.

Huamani also serves a team that responds directly to the Immigration Rights Coalition’s hotline. Around 30 such rapid response teams have been set up around the state in response to the Trump attack, immigration advocates said at a press conference.

LA community urges Chicago to stand up to “right” ice

The federal immigration enforcement raid in Chicago comes after the Trump administration targets democratically led cities in Los Angeles and Washington, DC

Advocates of Angeleno immigrants told USA Today that they have already begun sharing information with Chicago supporters about how to handle the rise in immigrant raids.

“One way we believe it’s important to fight back is not to cower when ice attacks start to increase when troops are deployed,” said Marisol Marquez, activist at Centro CSO of LA Immigration Rights Group. “We believe that facing it head on is the best source of courage for people and resilience.”

Having a team of people ready to respond to sightings of immigration agents is an important first step, Marquez is the key first step in ensuring people feel safe walking around their neighborhood.

She also said it is important for the community to continue living as normal as possible, including through the process of public events.

“We are not shy, we cannot show that we will accept National Guard patrols to terrorize our community,” Marquez said. “We want to let our neighbors know we’re not discouraged. Our community is united and we will continue to unite.”

Alibaba’s new QWEN model is for charging AI transcription tools

0

The AI voice transcription tool is looking to make it even more competitive with the QWEN3-ASR-Flash model of Alibaba’s QWen team unveiling the QWEN3-ASR-Flash model.

It is built on powerful QWEN3-OMNI intelligence and trained using a large dataset with tens of millions of hours of voice data, but this is more than just an AI speech recognition model. The team says it is designed to provide extremely accurate performance even when faced with tricky acoustic environments and complex language patterns.

So, how is it piling up into the competition? Performance data from the tests conducted in August 2025 suggests that it is rather impressive.

In standard Chinese public tests, QWEN3-ASR-Flash had an error rate of just 3.97%, with competitors like Gemini-2.5-Pro (8.98%) and GPT4O-Transcribe (15.72%) dragging on afterwards, showing the promise of a more competitive AI voice transcription tool.

QWEN3-ASR-Flash has also proven to be proficient in handling Chinese accents, with an error rate of 3.48%. In English, he scored a competitive 3.81%, comfortably beating Gemini’s 7.63% and GPT4O’s 8.45%.

But it really turns your head is the transcription of music, a notoriously tricky realm.

If you were entrusted with recognizing the lyrics of a song, QWEN3-ASR-Flash posted an error rate of just 4.51%. This is far better than its rivals. This ability to understand music was confirmed in full song internal tests and achieved an error rate of 9.96%. It has been significantly improved over 32.79% from GEMINI-2.5-PRO, and 58.59% from GPT4O transcription.

Alibaba Qwen's qwen3-asr-flash ASR error rate test compares other popular AI speech recognition models used in transcription tools.

Beyond its impressive accuracy, this model brings some innovative features to the table for the next generation of AI transcription tools. One of the biggest game changers is its flexible context bias.

Forget the painstaking days in the keyword list. The system allows users to feed the model’s background text in almost any format to get customized results. It can provide a simple list of keywords, the entire document, or both messy mixes.

This process eliminates the need for complex preprocessing of contextual information. This model is smart enough to reduce accuracy using context. However, even if the text you provide is completely irrelevant, its general performance is hardly affected.

It is clear that Alibaba’s ambition for this AI model is to become a global voice transcription tool. The service offers accurate transcription from a single model covering 11 languages, with numerous dialects and accents.

The support for the Chinese people is particularly deep, covering the mandarins, in addition to major dialects such as Cantonese, Sichuan, Minnan (Hokkien), and Wu.

For English speakers, we handle accents from the UK, the US and other regions. An impressive list of other supported languages includes French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Arabic.

To conclude that all, the model is skilled at identifying exactly which of the 11 languages is spoken, rejecting non-speech segments such as silence and background noise, and ensuring cleaner output over past AI audio transcription tools.

Bruce Willis’ wife Emma on the care struggle and public judgment

0

play

Emma Heming Willis never expected her life to look like this.

Thirteen years after marrying actor Bruce Willis, and about ten years after giving birth to two daughters, Mabel and Evelyn, Heming Willis has revealed a devastating secret. Bruce had taken a step back from acting due to aphasia and damage to the brain parts, including language.

A year later, she had an overwhelming renewal. Bruce suffered from frontotemporal dementia – a specific primary progressive aphasia. Around 50,000-60,000 people in the US have FTD, causing personality changes, leading to speech problems, and incurable. People have lived around 7-13 years after symptoms begin.

Now, the 47-year-old former model is peering into her journey as a caregiver. One message is loud and clear. Caregivers – 1 in 4 adults in the US – Need more support.

“I knew nothing about care before I became a caregiver,” she tells USA Today. “I didn’t know much about FTD until I needed to know about FTD. You’re just plunging into this seat and need to get a lot of stuff in real time very quickly.

In the Blues’ health struggle, Emma Heming Willis “trying to stay above the water.”

Imagine this: Bruce and Emma Heming Willis, sitting in the clinic and hearing the word “FTD.” You will hand over the brochure and be sent down your path. that’s it.

“It was really amazing to me. We’re diagnosed here, and all we get is checking in in a few months, nothing else, Heming Willis recalls.

Heming Willis’s mind swirled with his to-do list. “We had to be able to make sure we understand this once we got a diagnosis, so we had to be able to save our family because we were really struggling,” she says. “Through it, I’ve found that the experts and experts could help me so that I could help two young children navigate this in the healthiest way possible.”

She knows how lucky she is compared to other caregivers who don’t have money or support from their loved ones.

“I’m very blessed with the access we have and the resources that many caregivers don’t have,” she says. “When you’re thrown into this, it’s like you’re just at that thickness and you’re just trying to stay on the water. It’s unfair for a caregiver to make everything all at once.”

Emma Heming Willis was “continually angry” with frontotemporal dementia

Before the diagnosis, deep embraced frustration erupted inside Heming Willis. Because she was thinking about divorce. “I couldn’t understand what was going on with my husband,” she says. She’s no longer angry with him, but she’s still mad. “I’m constantly mad at his illness.” It’s an emotion that other caregivers can involve, and put them aside to focus on their loved ones while retaining many emotions.

“We’re not just experiencing grief and grief,” she says. “We’ve been through a lot and caregivers can’t speak about their anger and their responsibilities towards being examined,” the therapist who mistakenly called her her own caregiver explained how normal these feelings are.

Heming Willis will also be the first to say she is not the perfect caregiver. There’s no one there. So she flips through her book and asks for advice. “I’m navigating it in real time, with the thickness of it. I need constant reminders to get back on track so I can maintain this journey.”

If you are trying to take one message from a book, you will be unable to “caregive yourself.” I need support. We need a community. ”

Bruce Willis’ wife talks about his illness: “I don’t want this.”

Heming Willis revealed in both her book and an interview with Diane Sawyer that Bruce lived in her second home. As expected, a backlash against her decision arrived quickly.

“People would have had a big opinion on that,” she says. “I think the hardest thing to see is the experienced caregivers and they make judgments.”

What she hopes people understand is that dementia appears to be different for everyone. All caregivers deserve freedom from respect and judgment.

“I don’t want this life,” she repeats. “I want to go back to our old life. My husband is fine, he is working. He is in the world. We can bring our father back to our children. I want us to be home. I don’t want this.

Heming Willis wants to clarify the phrase FTD and other forms of dementia are nonpartisan diseases. The trip to Washington aims to continue these conversations, particularly as a reduction in programs that Medicaid has impacted caregivers. “I want to be able to look at the caregivers, afford care and get help,” she says. “Medicare, Medicaid, you know, cut. Even before that, it was already difficult for caregivers. You know, God just knows what’s going on right now.

Emma Heming Willis is looking ahead

Sometimes, Bruce sneaks up on them, as he once did. “It’s amazing. Sometimes you pretend? Are you kidding? Have you been joking? Did you always joke?” Then he returns to his FTD-influenced self. Fleeting waves of normalcy in the ocean of chaos.

Emma Heming Willis never expected her life to look like this. But now she is on a mission.

Banksy murals at London’s High Court show judges hitting protesters

British Street artist Banksy has painted a new mural in London’s High Court, depicting a judge who hit the protesters.

According to Reuters, the artist whose identity has never been confirmed published a photo of the artwork on his Instagram page on Monday, September 8th.

The black, white and red mural shows a judge of Wigg who used a small gave and attacked the protester holding a blood-divided placard knocked on the ground.

The artwork has arrested nearly 900 people after protesting against the ban on the Palestinian lawsuit on Saturday, September 6th, according to the BBC.

The UK labelled Palestinian Action as a terrorist organization in July, making it a crime to affiliate or support the group after some of its members broke into royal air bases and damaged military aircraft.

The Bristol-based artist will never comment on his artwork, but he has created previous works in support of Palestinian causes, including barriers to separating the West Bank, which are concentrated around Bethlehem.

Labour politicians and British envoy for women and girls Harriet Herman told the BBC that the mural was “protesting the law.”

“Congress enacts the law, and judges simply interpret the law,” Herman said. “In terms of the right to protest, I don’t think there is any evidence that judges are tightening protests beyond what Congress intended.”

Banksy’s London mural is covered

The BBC reported that the mural was covered with a large sheet of large plastic and metal barriers shortly after its release.

Court officials told the outlet that it was a “duty” to maintain the original character of the listed historic buildings and would be removed.

The photo shows security guards protecting the walled mural. The BBC quoted the unknown security guards and said they don’t know how long they will remain, but they say “at least it won’t rain.”

Reuters contributed to reporting this story.

What we know about Ryan Rouse

0

play

The man accused of trying to assassinate then-presidential candidate Donald Trump with a rifle on a 2024 golf course in South Florida, appeared in front of a group of potential ju umpires on September 8th.

Federal prosecutors allegedly Ryan Rouse, 59, systematically plotted to kill Trump and hid it in a rifle near the sixth hole at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach on September 15, 2024. Prosecutors say he intended to shoot Trump while Rous was playing a round of golf.

According to court documents, a US Secret Service agent plunged into a chain link fence and fired a rifle barrel, urging the suspect to drop his weapon and escape. Rous was later arrested about 41 miles from the golf course.

Prosecutors say the incident was the second attempt at assassination of Trump during the 2024 presidential election. About two months before the second incident, Trump was grazing in his ears with a bullet while speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The shooter was later killed by an agent in the Secret Service.

Rous, a resident of Hawaii and former Trump supporters, faces accusations of assassinating a presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer and attempting to violate several weapons. He pleads not guilty to all charges.

If convicted, Routh could be sentenced to life in prison.

The trial in federal court in Fort Pierce, Florida began on September 8th with the election of a ju judge. Routh fired his legal team – he decided to represent himself in court – the “standby lawyer” will be held in court through trial to assist him.

Here’s what we know about the suspect and the assassination allegations:

Prosecutor: Rous gathered “sniper nests”

While Trump was playing golf at Trump International, secret service agents who perform the security sweep observed a partially hidden face of the brush along the fence line near the sixth hole, according to court documents and federal prosecutors.

The agent then found a rifle barrel that aimed directly at him, court documents say. As the agent began to retreat, he saw the barrel of his rifle and fired.

When agents detected Louth, Trump was hundreds of yards away near the fifth hole on the course, prosecutors said. He would have been in the sixth hall within about 15 minutes.

According to court documents, the witness reported that he later saw a man running across the road from a golf course and obtained a vehicle. Local sheriff’s deputies reported that Routh had arrested on Interstate 95 at approximately Mile Marker 112 in Martin County, the Treasure Coast Newspaper, a part of the USA Today Network.

Prosecutors accused Routh of assembled a “sniper nest” while looking at the sixth hole on the golf course. Court documents alleged during the investigation, FBI agents discovered an SKS semi-automatic rifle with scope attached and an expansion magazine in the area where the Routh was hidden.

“The rifle’s serial number was deleted and not read,” the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement. “Hanging from the fence was a backpack and a reusable shopping bag, each containing a plate that could stop the fire of a small weapon.”

Prosecutors also claimed that Routh wrote a letter about the assassination attempt several months before the incident, which he left to an acquaintance. The letter was addressed to the “Dear World” and, among other things, stated, “This was an attempt to assassinate Donald Trump, and I am very sorry that I failed to you.”

Ryan Rouse’s criminal history

Prosecutors say Rouse was convicted of North Carolina felony in 2002 and 2010. USAToday previously reported that the North Carolina Judicial Branch has posted more than 200 trials involving Routh, including Guilford County, where Routh had many previous addresses, and cited more than 200 lawsuits from businesses that refrained from removing money.

Reuters reported that Routh lost his right to own a firearm when he pleaded guilty to a felony in 2002 to possessing an illegal explosive device. He was later released on bonds and was arrested again for carrying a hidden handgun without permission after fleeing a traffic stop and barricaded himself inside a roof business.

He later pleaded guilty to possession of court records described as “a binary explosive with a 10-inch explosive code and a explosive cap,” and was sentenced to probation, Reuters reported. In 2010, he pleaded guilty to a felony after being charged with possession of stolen goods, including stolen goods, pull carts and power cords, according to court records.

Although Routh previously worked as a roofer and contractor, court records showed that business transactions were often sour and he was repeatedly sued by people who accused him of not paying his bill.

Around 2018, Routh moved to Hawaii and launched a company offering small, affordable, custom-built homes. However, a customer told USA Today in September 2024 that he gave Routh a massive deposit for a project that he had never completed.

Political activities in Routh

Online activities showed that Routh supported Ukraine in the war with Russia. He advocated on Ukrainian social media to gain support in defending Russian aggression.

In the spring of 2022, Routh suggested in a series of X posts that he traveled to Ukraine to fight on behalf of the haunted country. In one post, he tweeted on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s account, “I am an American who comes to fight you in Ukraine. I will fly to Kyiv, meet you and transport you to Kiev to fight until I die… We must come and join the battle all civilians of the world.

Rous also wrote in a self-published book in 2023 that he voted for Trump in 2016, but said he regretted his decision due to the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. However, public records reviewed by USA Today last year show that local government elections, which date back to many cycles, including 2008 and 2012, were not when Trump first ran in 2016.

Although records suggest he is not affiliated with the party, they also showed that Rouse voted for Democrats in the 2024 primary in Guilford County, North Carolina.
