Consider these 5 questions before purchasing an EV

0

play

  • While EV ranges are a major consideration for some buyers, range concerns may not be a major factor for many drivers.
  • AAA says fueling an electric vehicle is cheaper than gas up.

Electric cars have strange moments.

EVs continue to grow as market share, with new models here or in the middle and tradeable, but the recent uproar targeting Tesla for CEO Elon Musk’s political activity, the federal government’s forecast for EV tax credits, and the recent decline in sales for certain segments highlight some of the contradictions.

Nevertheless, the reasons why they have been attracting customers over the years remain relevant, such as their vibrant performance and the ability to avoid travelling to gas stations.

However, if you are in the market for EVs, I would like to take a few into consideration before purchasing.

Should I worry about the battery range?

With an average daily commute under 30 miles, it may be too much to find the longest range of EVs. The extent to which an EV is worried that there isn’t enough juice to take the driver to either the destination or charging location is often cited as one of the reasons why some consumers decide to avoid EVs.

However, many EVs promise battery ranges of over 300 miles, allowing even shorter range vehicles to handle standard commutes comfortably. If you need a vehicle and a short trip to town for a basic commute, in most cases it will be more than it is covered. Stephanie Valdez-Streaty, Industry Insights Director at Cox Automotive, is looking at one of the reasons why you won’t get hooked on getting your EV, which is the largest range if you need it. Of course, those who travel regularly will prioritize EVs over a longer range. Operating conditions – For example, EV batteries can make cold weather difficult, but it can also affect the range.

What do you need to know about EV charging?

Using EVs as fuel is a different experience than a familiar travel to a gas station. For beginners, this may seem like an intimidating outlook, but there’s no need to worry. Most people charge their EVs at home (EV owners who live in multi-unit buildings may find it challenging). The U.S. Energy Administration states, “Many EV owners can meet the requirements for daily driving range by charging overnight with Level 1 equipment. No additional costs or installation is required. Level 1 equipment is a code that can be plugged into a standard wall outlet. Consumers can also speed up the process by installing a Level 2 (240 volts) charger in their home. According to the Energy Department, Level 2 charging is equivalent to a 25-mile range per hour of charging. Some utility companies offer special rebates to install Level 2 chargers and programs that save money when charging. Some automakers have their own offers.

But what about when I’m not approaching the house?

Finding public charges can be more complicated and your location will determine how convenient it is. Many apps from car manufacturers and charging companies can help you identify where to charge. The Energy Division has about 73,000 publicly available EV charging stations and one or more charging ports listed on its website. DC fast charging (ranges from 100 to 200 miles or more per 30 minutes of charge, per energy department) can be more convenient. Tesla’s Supercharger Network promises over 60,000 global superchargers to vehicle drivers with a charging rate of up to 200 miles in 15 minutes. Many are located along major corridors such as the Ohio Turnpike. Charging infrastructure is not yet robust, but many believe it needs to, but options continue to expand. In particular, Waffle House signed a deal with BP’s arm, bringing a quick recharge to the restaurant.

Who is the ideal EV driver and who isn’t?

This question shows why you want to assess your own driving needs. Valdez-Streaty suggests that people who live in places with shorter commutes, more expensive gas and have good charging access near home or work will be the best candidates. People who drive long distances regularly, or have consistently long commutes, live in rural areas with limited charging infrastructure, or need a large truck to transport, may not have the ideal lifestyle to become an EV driver, she says.

What are the other considerations?

Valdez-Streaty says he’ll do your homework. Websites including Kelley Blue Book, AAA and Energy Department are part of the places to check as part of your research. Consider not only the sticker price, but also the total cost of ownership. According to Cox Automotive, the average trading price for the new EV in April was $59,255, while the average list price for a second-hand EV was $35,874.

However, AAA points out that charging an EV is more expensive than a gas-powered vehicle. Additionally, some maintenance needs vary (for example, there are no further oil changes). While the expected end of the federal tax credit for EV purchases says it will kill one type of incentive, Valdez-Streaty should check where you live, as the state and local jurisdictions may fill that gap. She also points out that a large number of used EVs are expected to unlease. Despite the headwinds of current EV adoption, Valdez-Streaty is bullish with EVs in the long run.

House GOP releases the complete Jeffrey Epstein “Birthday Book.” What’s in it?

0

Republicans have released a complete book and other documents related to Epstein after denounced Democrats on the “cherry picking” record by releasing only pages attributed to Trump.

play

WASHINGTON – A House Committee has released numerous documents on disgraceful financier Jeffrey Epstein, including “birthday books” that include messages from President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton, and Professor Harvard Alan Dellswitch and others.

Democrats on the committee released Trump’s memo that he and the White House denied that the president had written or signed. Another page in the full book The House Surveillance and Reform Committee found a photo of Epstein and a black face holding an oversized check signed by $22,500 “Djtrump” with another man.

“Jeffrey shows her early talent with money and women, selling “fully depreciated” (redacted name) to Donald Trump for $22,500,” Page said.

The book is packed with obscene photos, with many faces black, with both 50 Epstein handwritten and entered messages by handth birthday. The book features notable figures such as Clinton and DelShotz with contributors and “friends,” but neither of them have been indicted in collaboration with Epstein.

Clinton’s obvious handwritten notes mentioned Epstein’s “childlike curiosity” and “a drive to make a difference.”

Dershowitz’s obvious typed notes state that he got an early version of “Vanity Unfair” and “talked from you to change the focus on Bill Clinton,” with ock lol on the cover of a fake magazine. The fake article included “Al-Qaeda in South America funded by Epstein.” “Jeffrey Epstein’s Bloody Summer.”

Democrats focused on Trump’s contributions and demanded that they know what other references to the president are in the Epstein Files.

“Happy birthday – and every day may be another great secret,” the message with Trump’s signature said.

However, Trump denied contributions to the book, suing the Wall Street Journal, which he first wrote about the book, for $10 billion. White House spokesman Karoline Leavitt said the lawsuit would continue in a social media post September 8th that Trump did not paint, sign or sign.

R-Kentucky Chairman James Comer summoned books and other records of the late Epstein’s real estate as part of an official review of his criminal investigation. Comer accused Democrats of being “cherry picking” documents, such as the Trump Note.

Epstein’s will and other documents including 99 pages of name and phone number. Comer said the committee could pursue additional Epstein Bank records.

“The Republicans on the Oversight Committee are focused on conducting a thorough investigation to bring transparency and accountability to Epstein’s violent crimes and American survivors,” Comer said in a statement. “President Trump has not been accused of fraud, and Democrats are ignoring new information the committee received today.”

Epstein died of suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His aide, Ghilaine Maxwell, who compiled the birthday book, is sentenced to 20 years in prison for her role in the plot.

Lawmakers on both parties are calling for the release of all documents from criminal investigations due to Epstein’s relationship with wealthy and powerful people. However, the Justice Department reported in a July 7 memo that “systematic review” of the document revealed that “client lists” would not be a crime. ”

The memo said “full disclosure” of the record was “not appropriate or guaranteed,” the memo said.

A pair of wedding crushers faces felony charges after police say they will tie them to nearly $60,000 theft involving a newlywed in California.

The Glendale Police Department in Los Angeles County reported that an uninvited wedding guest on August 31st slipped into the Renaissance Banquet Hall and dropped out in a gift box.

Video surveillance from scenes posted online by Fox 11 shows a man standing near the doorway, quickly grabbing a gift box from the table and fleeing the venue.

Police reported that the suspect had entered a waiting black SUV driven by a second suspect, and the pair fled the scene. Detectives said the newlyweds didn’t know that neither was suspicious.

The victim said the burglars stole nearly $60,000 with dozens of checks in the box.

Who was arrested for robbery at a California wedding?

Detectives used video surveillance and department resources to arrest the suspect by Armean Shirehjini, 41. On Thursday, September 4th, police said, Shairehjini was arrested at his Sherman Oaks home.

On the same day, police arrested Andranik Avetician, 37, of Los Angeles.

The newlyweds steal cash and checks recovered from the wedding crusher’s home

Detectives executed search warrants at both suspects’ homes and recovered “a ton of cash and dozens of checks” for the newlyweds, police said.

Additionally, police said they seized firearms and “various drugs” from their homes.

Online records from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office show that both suspects are being held without being held.

Records also show that both defendants are set to appear before a judge on Tuesday, September 9th. Court documents do not indicate whether they have obtained an attorney.

Anyone with additional information about the case will be asked to call a Glendale Police detective at 818-548-3127.

‘Constitutional freedom is lost:” Sotomayor is based on a parental accreditation award

0

Liberal justice called the order “mercilessly unreconcilable with our country’s constitutional guarantees.”

play

  • Judge Sonia Sotomayor wrote opposition criticizing the majority decision and the actions of the Trump administration.
  • Sotomayor argued that the ruling allows the government to grab people based on their appearance, language and type of work.
  • The Supreme Court overturned a lower court order that had restricted ICE agents’ tactics in Los Angeles.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor has condemned the Trump administration’s operation of the Los Angeles immigration attacks and vowed to remain unabashedly not standing while the United States’ “constitutional freedom is lost.”

On September 8, the Supreme Court lifted a restraining order from a federal judge in LA that restricted immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) agents from making stops without reasonable doubt.

In July, US District Judge Mame Hulipon for the Central District of California said the government cannot rely solely on race, the language they speak, the work they play, and whether they are in a specific location, such as the Day Railer pickup site.

But, as Sotomayor condemned the vote, the September 8 reversal by the almost conservative majority of the Supreme Court gave the Trump administration another victory.

“That decision is another serious misuse in our emergency,” Sotomayor wrote on September 8th in a ferocious 21-page opposition.

Sotomayor called it “unconsciously unable to reconcile with our country’s constitutional guarantees.”

Obama’s appointee Justice torn her High Court conservative colleagues and government over the ruling. Sotomayor declared that even if all Latinos are US citizens, “people who work in low-paid jobs will be seized at any time, taken from their jobs, and held until they provide evidence of legal status in the satisfaction of their agents.”

In June, the Trump administration intensified immigration raids across California by extending its scope to anyone in the United States from people with criminal history without proper permission. The crackdown sparked protests, calling Trump to the National Guard, and ultimately the Marines urged him to spread their anger.

Sotomayor excludes Kavanaugh’s explanation

Judge Brett Kavanaugh, who agreed to the Trump administration, said in his September 8 consent, the district court was overflowing with restricting Ice’s authority to temporarily stop people and ask about their immigrant status.

“To be clear, we cannot file a reasonable doubt on only obvious ethnicity. Under this court case law regarding immigration suspension, it could be a “related factor” when considered along with other prominent factors,” Kavanaugh said.

He added: “Immigration halts based on reasonable doubts of illegal existence have been a key component of US immigration enforcement for decades across several presidential administrations.”

Sotomayor has made an exception to Kavanaugh’s comment. She said ice agents don’t just question people, they use firearms and physical violence to catch people.

Sotomayor added that the Fourth Amendment, which aims to protect “the constitutional rights of all individuals” from search and seizures, could be at risk.

“The Fourth Amendment protects the constitutional rights of all individuals and “frees itself from arbitrary arbitrary interference by the legal officer,” Sotomayor said. “From today onwards, it may no longer be true for people who look at certain methods, talk about certain methods, and don’t do certain types of legal work.”

Bears vs. Vikings Live Update: Scores, MNF Highlights

0

play

Hopes for Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears are sky high in 2025. Find Top Building for “Monday Night Football” vs. Minnesota Vikings.

The NFC North Matchup on Monday night features teams that have only gone from 5 to 12, showing that pretty well, but for some good reasons. The first is the employment of new head coach Ben Johnson, the Detroit Lions’ former offensive coordinator.

Under Johnson, the Lions boasted one of the most fun, effective and innovative crimes in football. That could portend a good for Williams, the 2024 overall pick who has forgotten his rookie season.

However, they face tough jobs against visiting vikings. Minnesota is finishing its stellar season in 2024. This is the season where he finished 14-3, 2nd in the NFC North. However, there are major changes in the center. 2024 first round pick JJ McCarthy returns after missing the entire season with a knee injury.

Everyone can guess how McCarthy will perform in his first season as Vikings QB1, but that makes the first showdown of the 2025 “MNF” even more interesting.

Don’t miss the action snaps. USA Today Sports offers live updates, highlights and more from the following games: It’s always Eastern.

The Detroit Lions were one of the most offensive teams when it came to going for the fourth time in Ben Johnson’s era. He took that trend into his first game as a coach for the Bears.

However, Chicago was unable to convert fourth and third. Caleb Williams overturned DJ Moore, who opened over the stick, resulting in incomplete sales and down sales.

Darnold plays for the Seattle Seahawks. He signed a three-year contract with the Seahawks in free agency. The Vikings walked him to allow JJ McCarthy to take over as the team’s starting quarterback.

JJ McCarthy leads the first scoring drive of his NFL career. The Vikings couldn’t punch on a touchdown, but Will Reichard scored a chip shot and a 31-yard field goal that could reduce Minnesota’s deficit to four points.

McCarthy had a nice 11-yard scramble on the drive, but his biggest play was a 42-yard pass interference penalty drawn by Aaron Jones on Bears cornerback Nursion Wright.

Bears 7, Viking 3

So far, it’s been very good for Johnson. The Bears scored a touchdown on his first drive as team coach, and Caleb Williams looked far more comfortable than at any point in his rookie season.

Williams completed all nine passes for 56 yards in the first quarter. More impressively, he ran for 21 yards, gave touchdowns on two carrys, and found a room of ample running behind the improved offensive line.

Meanwhile, his opponent, 2024 draft rep JJ McCarthy, completed his only pass attempt in the quarter, but was fired twice with two threes and an out to open the game. The 22-year-old is his first NFL start, so it may take him time to settle in his new role.

Caleb Williams continued playing on the ground and in the air on Chicago’s second drive, but he had the worst throw of the day in the third and second. He threw a quick screen at Odunze, but the pass was behind the receiver, which adapted to it and went to the ground to catch it.

Odunze landed quickly, and the Bears returned the ball to the Vikings with less than a minute left in the first quarter to punt the ball.

Sam Darnold was the Vikings quarterback last season. He began all 17 games in Minnesota in 2024, leading him to a 14-3 record. He posted a career-leading 66.2% completion rate, 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, creating the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.

Darnold signed with the Seattle Seahawks in free agency after the Vikings decided to make JJ McCarthy the first round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft the starting quarterback.

For the second straight time, the Vikings were forced to punt for McCarthy’s third bag. This time, the first year starter tried to scramble into the open lane, but he stumbled and was unable to return to the line of scrimmage.

The Bears regain the ball on their own 25-yard line with a seven-point lead.

The Bears added a “VMH” jersey patch to pay tribute to former owner Virginia Haras McCasky, who passed away in February at the age of 102.

Williams hadn’t rushed a touchdown during his first NFL season. His first score for the 2025 campaign was when he ran to his left and ran through the power through Jeff Okda’s hit, bringing the bear on the board.

Williams also passed six times for 51 yards on his first drive. Cairo Santos makes the extra points to give the Bears a 7-0 early lead.

Bears 7, Vikings 0

JJ McCarthy’s first NFL drive ended with a bag of Gervon Dexter Sr. McCarthy.

What time will the Bears vs. Vikings match bears tonight?

  • Start time: 8:15pm and (7:15pm)

The Bears vs Viking matchup is scheduled to kick off at 8:15pm ET. The Vikings travel to Soldier Field in Chicago and face off against the enemy of the division.

Which TV channel is the Bears vs. Vikings game?

ESPN is the broadcast home for Monday Night Football. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman call, while Lisa Salters patrols the bystanders.

Bears vs Viking odds, money line, o/u

Week 1 will offer plenty of entertainment and the show could begin in Chicago with Ben Johnson in town. The Bears have a praised head coach. Meanwhile, the Vikings are off the 14-3 season, but JJ McCarthy is making his NFL debut.

Chicago has made incredible progress in improving the most notable personnel in the lost trench, when the game won and is most prominent. It’s time to believe in our products. Minnesota doesn’t have second wide receiver Jordan Addison tonight due to a pause. His absence is noteworthy as Chicago’s defense locks Justin Jefferson. Chicago shows that it’s ready for prime time. – Tom Viera

Thielen was originally scheduled to play the 2025 NFL season on a one-year, $8.5 million restructured deal that he inked with the Panthers during the offseason, per Spotrac.com. The deal provided the 35-year-old with the opportunity to win an additional $4 million. Tom Pelissero reports that Thielen has agreed to cut her salary by $2 million. He also removed a potential $4 million incentive from the contract.

California license plate crisis: see new formats

0

play

In 1980, Golden State adopted a new numbering scheme for passenger cars’ license plates. It was then followed by three characters, or “1AAA000.”

Considering the sale of new cars at the time, consider that this scheme is for passenger cars only – motorcycles and commercial vehicles have got their own number combination. Don’t forget how Californians love the vanity plate. (In California, license plates remain on cars for the rest of their lives, and alphanumeric combinations are not reused.)

Well, that didn’t work. Sacramento Bee reports that 45 years after the new scheme was implemented, California estimates that by the end of 2025 it will hit 9ZZZ999 (the last possible plate in the sequence). Maybe it’s the buyers are rushing out tariffs, or maybe it’s all people abandoning their Teslas, or maybe it’s the dynamics of the country’s most greedy car buying situation.

California is really crazy. A total of 13.2 million registered vehicles (registered cars!), almost twice the states where the next one lives, and almost twice the states at the bottom of the states owned by Texas and Florida, and 25 cars. In a typical year, Californians buy 10-12% of new cars across the country, usually in a sequence of around 1.7 million. It’s a newer car than France, almost identical to Italy and Canada, and almost identical to the UK and Germany.

(*Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Dakotas, Delaware, Hawaii, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Road Island, Utah, West

So, what should we do? If we are in charge, we know what we do. If everyone gets a plate of vanity and can’t come up with something witty or interesting enough for our tastes, you’ll be sent to live in Arizona.

The California solution is sadly much more practical. They invert the sequence to the format “000AAA0”. You should start seeing a new sequence appear early next year. Californians should last at least a year or two to buy new cars.

The Atlantic Ocean is quiet at a typical hurricane peak

0

Based on the past few years, September 10 is the typical peak of Atlantic hurricane season, but things are atypical quiet.

play

Where are all the hurricanes? So far, there was only one in the Atlantic (Erin). This is far from forecasts of up to 10.

This week is especially lively. Based on the past few years, September 10th is a typical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season. However, this year, a quiet week is expected as tropical cyclones are not expected for the next seven days, according to the latest advice from the National Hurricane Centre, released on September 8th.

“This week, the model does not show any potential areas for development. We headed towards the peak of traditional hurricane season this Wednesday (September 10th),” WPLG-TV hurricane specialist Michael Lowry told the Substack Post.

Calling it a “ghost town,” weather trader meteorologist Ryan Maue said in an email to USA Today that “the Atlantic tropics have once again hanged out.”

Why is it so quiet?

“Dry, dusty air will keep the Atlantic unusually quiet during the climatological peaks of Wednesday’s hurricane season,” said Alex Dasilva, an expert at Accuweather Hurricane.

Among other factors, if the tropical air is dry and dusty, a hurricane does not easily form, predictors said.

The Atlantic may be quiet for the next seven to ten days, Maue said until healthy tropical waves emerge from Africa, which can survive hostile environmental conditions such as dry air, high stability, dust and wind shear.

However, Acuweather predictors warned that “clusters of showers and thunderstorms organized along the Gulf and South Atlantic coasts could evolve into tropical storms, particularly mid- to late September,” with Gulf water temperatures above historic averages.

“The cold front off the southeast coast could potentially spin up some tropical development this weekend or early next week,” Dasilva said. However, strong destructive wind shear from the southeast coast reduces the risk of tropical development. ”

Looking ahead

“By this weekend, dry air and Saharan dust should begin to be kicked out of major Atlantic developments by this weekend,” according to Dasilva. “Atmospheric conditions that encourage tropical development are expected to return later in the month.”

Colorado State University forecasters were also bullish about the outlook for the storm later this month. In a two-week forecast from September 3-16, Colorado State University forecasters predicted activity will recover over the coming weeks.

“The Global Model Ensemble is quite aggressive as it has potential layers in the Eastern Atlantic and Western Caribbean/South Bay due to the development of additional tropical cyclones from days 8 to 14,” the CSU forecast said.

Was your pre-season prediction wrong?

According to forecasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, most pre-season forecasts seek an unusually active year, allowing storms of as many as 19 names, including as many as 10 hurricanes. So far, six names of storms have formed, only one of which has been Hurricane (Erin).

“My predictions for this year are 14 storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes (near average), but that might be generous.”

“Given how quiet the peak season remains, this year is likely to end at the bottom of the preseason forecast,” said Andrew Hazelton, an associate scientist at the University of Miami Ocean and Atmospheric Research Cooperative Research Institute, on September 8.

“Outside of the flooding caused by early tropical storms and the effects of fringes from Erin, so far, it’s been a year that seems truly amazing if it continues,” he said. “But there’s still a way to go.”

ICE launches Midway Blitz, a Chicago immigrant crackdown operation

0

Operation Midway Blitz appears as a Chicago appliance for federal forces and more ice agents, a potential deployment.

play

  • The Department of Homeland Security is launching Operation Midway Blitz to target undocumented immigrants who commit crimes in Chicago and Illinois.
  • The operation is named in honor of Katie Abraham, a 20-year-old woman killed in hit and run by undocumented immigrants.
  • The initiative follows President Trump’s promise to send more ice ages with federal forces to Chicago in response to the violent Labor Day weekend.

CHICAGO — After a lot of speculation and teasing by President Donald Trump, the Department of Homeland Security said it is launching Operation Midway Blitz, a new initiative aimed at undocumented immigrants who commit crimes in Chicago and Illinois.

In a social media post on September 8, DHS honors Katia Braham, a 20-year-old woman from the northwest suburb of Chicago, who was killed by Julio Kukulbor, a 29-year-old Guatemalan national who violated the United States in January.

The DHS said the immigration customs enforcement business would commit crimes and illegally target people in the country, “flocking to Chicago and Illinois.” Hundreds of Homeland Security authorities are expected to operate from naval bases outside of Chicago.

Homeland Security Advisor Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that she accused Illinois Gov. JB Pretzker and other local politicians of putting gang members, rapists, temptants and drug traffickers at risk.

“President Trump and Secretary Noem have a clear message: cities are not safe shelters for criminal and illegal aliens,” McLaughlin said. “If you illegally come to our country and break our laws, we will corner you, arrest you, banish you, and you will never return.”

The announcement by Homeland Security comes as Chicago supports the Trump administration deploying National Guard forces and more ice agents. Last week, Trump said “We’re coming in” in response to the violent Labor Day weekend. Meanwhile, Pretzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have vehemently rejected the concept and said they will stand up to Trump’s “tyranny.”

On September 7, Trump told reporters that Chicago is a “very dangerous place” and that “we can resolve Chicago very quickly.”

“It’s about terrorizing our community”: Chicagoans slumping Trump attacks

A large group of Chicago’s immigration activists and local Latino political leaders gathered on the southwest side of the city, a long-standing destination for Mexican immigrants, slamming Trump’s immigrant raid.

“What we are experiencing today is not normal,” said Ray Wence, of the Prairie National Immigration Advocacy Group, the Illinois Immigration and Refugee Rights Coalition. “It’s not normal for people to go out into the streets and be taken away from their families.”

Immigration agents have so far detained at least three people, according to the Immigration Rights Group. Group spokesman Brandon Lee said he expects the actual number to be high as the reported arrests are delayed.

“These adductions were seemingly random,” Vence said, “we’re approaching agent profiling and community members on the street.”

The Illinois Immigration Rights Group has established a hotline where Chicagoans can report sightings of ice agents. Immigration activists will also respond to in-person sightings, distribute information about what rights people have when faced with immigration agents, and record detention if they arrive in time.

“We never arrested the worst,” said Mayor Jail Gutierrez, Chicago’s 14th Ward City Council representative. “It’s terrifying our community, but we’re not threatened.”

The escalating war of words between Trump and the Pretzker

In a Truthful Social Post on September 8, the president criticized Pretzker for not asking for federal aid after saying six people were killed and 12 people were injured in the shooting over the weekend in Chicago.

“I don’t hurt them, I want to help the people of Chicago,” Trump wrote. “Only criminals get hurt!”

Pretzker immediately responded with X’s own post: “I want to help people, not hurt people,” says the man who just threatened American cities in the War Department. ”

In the Truthful Social Post on September 6th, Trump rephrased the line from the Oscar-winning film Apocalypse Now, threatening the ongoing deportation of Chicago’s undocumented immigrants. The day after Trump signed an executive order to change the Pentagon’s name to the War Division, it was the name from the country’s founding through World War II.

“I love the smell of morning deportation,” Trump wrote, bringing together lines on the Napalms of the Vietnam War and referring to deportation. “Chicago is trying to find out why it’s called the Department of War.”

In response, Pretzker later said that his condition was not threatened with X.

“The US president is threatening to go to war with American cities. This is no joke,” Pretzker wrote. “This is not normal. Donald Trump is not a strongman. He is a scary man. Illinois is not threatened by an aspiring dictator.”

And longtime US Senator Dick Durbin from Illinois said on September 8 that Trump continues to deploy troops to Chicago and “mistaked by mistake.”

“These actions don’t make us safer. They are a waste of money, representing another failed attempt to blow fear and distract us,” said Durbin, a ranking Democrat for the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Durbin also had a message to hardworking immigrant families who said he was scared of sending his child to school or hospital or reporting crimes to police.

“We’re standing with you. Know that the majority of Americans do not support these anti-immigrant actions by the Trump administration,” said Durbin, who will step down at the end of the year. “The president is showing off the light-da to immigrants, but Chicago accepts them as families, helping us to thrive our economy and strengthen our cities.”

How to encourage employees to use paid leave benefits

0

Johnny C. Taylor Jr. is working on your HR questions as part of the USA Today series. Taylor is the world’s largest HR professional society and the president and CEO of the Human Resources Management Association, author of “Reset: A Guide to Leaders to Work in an Era of Trending Times.”

Do you have a question? Please send it here.

Question: I manage a team of eight people. Only one of my employees used all of the paid leave (PTO) assigned to them last year. Four were only half of the PTO. What can you do to encourage employees to use the benefits of PTO? – Elton

Answer: It’s completely understandable to worry about the low PTO usage of your team. This is more common than you think. The good news is that there are some specific steps you can take to change this pattern.

◾Start by direct communication. Have a one-on-one conversation with each team member to understand your hesitation about taking leave. Some people worry about workload coverage, others feel guilty about being away, others don’t understand how much PTO has accumulated. Listen to their specific concerns and make sure they can be addressed directly and effectively.

◾Clearly express your expectations for the PTO. It explicitly states that during team meetings and individual check-in, it is not only permitted to take leave. Explain that rest and recharge times directly contribute to increased performance, creativity and job satisfaction. Consider setting a goal for everyone to use at least 75% of their assigned PTO by the end of the year.

◾Lead by example. Take your own PTO and speak up about it. Whether it’s a holiday or a long weekend at home, share a quick update about your vacation when you come back. When your team sees you prioritize rest, they will feel more comfortable doing the same thing.

◾I’m proactively concerned about my workload. Being a member of the CrossTrain team, everyone is confident that their responsibilities will be covered. Establish a clear handoff procedure and decide who will be responsible when someone goes out. Consider implementing a team calendar so that everyone can see when others are planning a vacation, making coverage easier to adjust.

◾Simplify the request process. Review the PTO approval process – streamline if it’s too much trouble or if you need a detailed explanation. Employees don’t need to justify how they spend their personal time.

◾Provides flexibility in using PTO. Let your team remember that PTOs don’t need holiday destinations. I encourage your team to take time for mental health days, long weekends, or personal appointments. Sometimes the most recovery breaks happen at home.

◾Consider incentives and policies. If cultural change is not happening quickly enough, consider implementing a “use or lose” policy in advance, or providing incentives to those who are using the PTO properly.

I have to be candid with my team from time to time. I tell them, “When you’re here, I need your best. When you’re not here, take the time to leave, charge, focus and focus.” Send a message that individual health and work performance is not the enemy. They are allies. Therefore, it fosters an environment in which vacations are normalized and supported, rather than creating anxiety or guilt. When teams feel truly supported by taking PTO, they see improvements in overall morale, productivity and retention.

Skate Epstein’s birthday letter due to Trump will be published

A letter posted on social media shows Trump’s suspect’s note to Epstein, located within the contours of a woman’s body.

play

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have released a copy of their birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein, who is in charge of signing President Donald Trump.

The letter, posted on social media on September 8th, shows what Trump’s message was supposed to be to Epstein, a woman’s signature mimicking embarrassment.

First reported by the Wall Street Journal in July, the letter ends with the message “People are amazing – Happy birthday, it could become another great secret every day.” According to the journal, it was included in other notes written for Epstein in a 2003 book edited for her birthday in 2003.

“We received Trump’s birthday memo to Jeffrey Epstein saying that there were no Democrats on the Board of Supervisory Board posted on social media on September 8th.

Trump called the letter “fake” in a previous social media post, calling the Wall Street Journal story “false, malicious, and honorable.” The president filed a lawsuit seeking $10 billion in damages claiming honor and slander against the Wall Street Journal, its parent company, its owner and two reporters.

White House spokesman Karoline Leavitt said in a social media post on September 8 that the lawsuit would continue, alleging that Trump did not paint or sign the picture.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budwich posted on social media on September 8 that parent copies of the journal would need to “open that check.”

“That’s not his signature. A honour and loss!” Budowich wrote in the post. This includes examples of Trump’s signature.

Trump was once Epstein’s best friend and died in 2019 after committing suicide in prison while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, and his administration has received intense criticism for processing records related to the case.

After members of Trump’s Orbital members were concerned about who was involved in Epstein’s allegations of crime, the Justice Department tried to close speculation in a July 7 memo that showed that the “systematic review” of the document did not reveal a “client list.”“

The memo sparked the rage that lies within Trump’s Magazine Base.

Trump condemned, focusing on Epstein and denounced his own supporters who called the issue a “hoax.” However, his administration began to retreat amid criticism, calling for the release of several major ju judge records. Lawmakers are seeking more complete disclosure of records.

After the August break there was a bipartisan push that was updated by lawmakers to win more Epstein’s records. The House Oversight Committee issued a subpoena to the Epstein Records on August 5th, beginning to publish some of the records from September 2nd.

Epstein’s victims met at Capitol Hill last week to promote more record releases and spoke to lawmakers on the oversight committee. One lawmaker left the meeting in tears.

The role of Ghislaine Maxwell in the Epstein Birthday Book

Epstein’s accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell said in a July 24 interview with Associate Attorney General Todd Blanche that he has sentenced Epstein to 20 years in prison for his role in the crime, but could not recall Trump submitting anything to Epstein’s birthday book.

A two-day interview with Trump’s former personal defense lawyer, Blanche, attracted criticism as the Justice Department has accused Maxwell of protecting himself in the past, defending one of her ex-boyfriend and long-time associates.

Blanche asked Maxwell about media coverage of “a birthday book that was assembled for Mr. Epstein” on his 50th birthday in 2003.

She replied to Epstein that her mother did one for her father’s 60th birthday and that Epstein loved the idea and asked her to “help me adjust it.”

However, when Blanche asked if he remembers the names of the people who sent Maxwell’s letters, Maxwell replied that she did not. “It’s so long, I want to tell you, but I don’t remember,” she said.

Maxwell, who asked the Supreme Court to overturn her conviction, said he remembered nothing about the letter from Trump, including when Blanche asked if he had seen “a photo of a naked woman or a photo like that.”

“I won’t,” she replied. “But just – no, I don’t.”

ayo edebiri handles nasty BLM questions directed at Julia Roberts

Ayo Edebiri praises her response to an uninformed interviewer and asks about her latest project, a film that causes sexual assault.

During the promotion of the film “After the Hunt” at the Venice Film Festival, Artlife TV interviewers asked co-stars Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield about “what we lost in an era of “political right” and “what we should expect in Hollywood after the #MeToo movement and the issues of black lives have ended.”

The framing of the questions prompted confusion and surprise. Garfield turned to Roberts and Edebili, who asked the Italian interviewer to repeat the question, adding, “Wearing your sunglasses, I don’t know which of us you’re talking about.” The interviewer then said the questions were about Roberts and Garfield.

“It’s not over,” Roberts says before the stunned Edebili inserts. “I know that’s not for me. I don’t know if the purpose is whether it’s not for me or not, but I’m just interested. I don’t think it’s finished,” she said. “Hashtags may not be used that much, but I think there’s work done by activists every day. It’s beautiful, important work. It’s really lively because this world is really recharging.

“There may be no mainstream coverage in a way that may have daily headlines in a way that may have been around eight years ago, but I don’t think that means work has been done,” Edebili continued. “That’s what I say.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvkcf6-zmvo

Garfield added that “as you say, it may not be covered or magnified in this present moment,” both moves are still absolutely alive.”

Online, fans praised Edebili’s “calmness and grace” and “thoughtful” eloquence. Another wrote: “I hope this interviewer has been fired.”

USA Today reached out to Arts Life for comments.

The interviewed journalist Federica Polidro addressed criticism and accusations of racism on Instagram on September 7th.

“I have been subjected to personal humiliation and attacks due to the question that for some reason it has not been well received by the public,” she wrote in a statement. She said the focus should be on the cast’s “thoughtful responses” rather than “how to express” the “unpleasant” questions.

“Real racists are people who see racism everywhere and want journalism at the muzzle,” she continued. “The role of journalism is to ask questions about respect and responsibility, even on sensitive topics. I will not tolerate or accept honorable or violent language.

“After the Hunt” from director Luca Guadanino addresses the #MeToo moment following a university professor (Edevili) accusing a university professor (Garfield) of sexual assault, then a #MeToo moment following a university professor (Roberts) and her star student (Edevili). As some critics have argued that the film “revives old debate” about trusting female accusers, it has sparked controversy since it premiered in Venice in late August.

Secret visit to Hegses, Puerto Rico after the strike in Venezuela

play

On September 8, Defense Secretary Pete Hegses and his top general made a quiet visit to Puerto Rico on September 8, after the Pentagon reportedly relocated 10 F-35 planes into the island’s territory amid evaporated tensions with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s government.

The trip came shortly after the Pentagon’s announcement that the US had struck a boat off the coast of Venezuela, killing 11 people who said they were “narcotolists.”

Co-directors Hegus and Dan Kane visited Puerto Rico on September 8, according to two defense officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Puerto Rico Gonzalez Colon was no secret about the meeting. In a post on X, she wrote that Hegses and Kane were “honored to welcome them” to the island’s territory.

She thanked the Trump administration for “acknowledging Puerto Rico for its acknowledgement of its national security in the United States and its fight against our hemisphere drug cartels. The Washington Post reported that the Trump administration considers Puerto Rico as the hub for an ongoing countercartel strike.

The Pentagon moves stealth jet to Puerto Rico

The secret visit came as the Pentagon moved 10 F-35 planes (military stealth fighters) into Puerto Rico. The pentagon does not confirm reports of F-35 movement.

The US overthrew a ship sailing from Venezuela to international Caribbean waters on September 2, killing 11 people the Trump administration described as “narcotelorists” associated with Venezuelan gang Tren de Lagua without providing evidence.

Two days later, a pair of Venezuelan fighters flew near one of the area’s naval vessels, what the Pentagon called “a very provocative move.”

“We strongly advise that cartels running Venezuela do not pursue further efforts to disrupt, block or disrupt anti-narcotics and anti-terrorist operations carried out by the US military,” the Pentagon wrote on its official X account.

The US Venezuelan boat stance raised concerns that it could mark the beginning of a drastic, legally four-told, secret war by the Trump administration over drug cartels in the Southern Hemisphere. Since then, Trump officials have argued that the fentanyl crisis and the flow of drugs entering the US amount to legal justifications to attack drug traffickers.

“We were smoking a drug boat, and there are 11 drug terrorists at the bottom of the ocean. If others try to do that, they will meet the same fate,” Hegses told reporters on the strike on September 4th.

The biggest overreactions since week 1 of the 2025 NFL season

0

play

Many NFL teams broke with new starting quarterbacks in the first week of the 2025 season. Many of them have achieved success with new excavations.

That included Daniel Jones, who surprised many by thriving in his first start at the Indianapolis Colts. He made history by leading the Colts to all seven possessions during the game, leading the team to their first week of victory since 2013.

Aaron Rodgers and Justin Fields also worked well in the “Trade Place” game. Rodgers became the first Pittsburgh quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger in 2020, having scored four pass touchdowns in a single game. Meanwhile, Fields showed off his double threat capabilities that have become the top target of Jets manager Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Moozy’s new leadership team.

Will Fields, Jones and Rogers continue to work well? And what about players like Russell Wilson who didn’t thrive in their new club? These questions will ignite in the minds of football fans as they respond to the first NFL action of 2025.

Here are some of the most notable overreactions from week one of the 2025 NFL season:

Daniel Jones fit perfectly with the Colts

When he signed a one-year contract with the team during the 2025 NFL offseason, few people gave Jones the chance to win the Colts’ starting job. The 28-year-old rewarded his faith in him with an incredible show in which Indianapolis beat the Miami Dolphins in an Indianapolis 33-8 blow.

Jones thrived as a passerby during the contest, showing great accuracy throughout. He completed 22 of 29 passes and a touchdown for 272 yards, adding 26 yards and two scores to the ground.

No one mistakes Jones for Jalen’s pain, but the first round pick in 2019 certainly looked comfortable with Shane Steichen’s offense. The system is suitable for Jones’ short and mid-range accuracy, but the chemistry he showed alongside veteran receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and rookie tight end Tyler Warren should make it easier for him to stay in rhythm every week.

Still, NFL fans should be careful not to read too much of Jones’ powerful show. After all, it came against the dolphins. Dolphins could be one of the worst teams in the NFL, as they could have minimal talent at cornerback. Fans will have to reserve judgement until they see what Jones can do in Week 2, which is much stronger against the Denver Broncos’ defense.

The Jets are locking Justin Field

Like Jones, Fields enjoyed an incredible debut for his new team. Fields completed 16 of 22 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown, adding 48 yards and two scores to the ground with a 34-32 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

More encouraging, the field looked extremely comfortable in Tanner Engstrand’s attack. The 26-year-old eliminated some of the bad habits he had shown at previous stops in Chicago and Pittsburgh. In particular, the field showed an intent to keep his eyes down while moving. He didn’t default to scramble when he put pressure on him.

The sector that thrived against the Steelers’ defense expects many to hope for the Jet and its fans. New York also needs to score 32 points. This coincided with the team’s season-high points total since 2024.

But like Jones, the Jets will want to see if the field can build on his momentum in week two before anointing the 26-year-old team’s savior. And it’s important that he eventually enters the winner’s column.

Aaron Rodgers is set in the Swan Song of MVP Caliber

Rodgers scored just one four touchdown game in his two years with the Jets. He needed only one game to achieve that feat with the Steelers.

Rogers looked like his old self in his first game with the Steelers. Certainly, the 41-year-old was significantly less mobility than he was at his peak, so he was fired four times. Still, he was accurate throughout the game, allowing Pittsburgh’s offense to be kept on schedule, completing 22 of 30 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns.

Can Rogers continue playing like this? It’s a big test for veterans. Nonetheless, his highly qualified performance comes against what many expect to be a solid Jets defense, and it appears that Rodgers is working well with his new offensive coordinator, Arthur Smith.

That might be enough to help Rogers reappear as a MVP candidate, especially if he can catapult the Steelers into the NFC North competition. His lack of mobility makes it difficult to catch things like Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes in such races, but the Steelers settle for having an above average quarterback after years of average average positions.

The Giants should bench Russell Wilson for Jackson Dirt

The Giants’ Russell Wilson days began as many people expected. The Giants only flew six points in total with a 21-6 loss to Washington commander.

Wilson was a big part of New York’s offensive struggle. The veteran was victimized by a few drops, but only completed 17 of the 37 passes for 168 yards. He didn’t look particularly closely at the field and couldn’t help the Giants consistently move the chain as the Giants produced under 15 yards on five of their nine drives during the game.

The Giants may not be able to bench Wilson after just one start. Brian Daboll didn’t commit to him at a post-game press conference, but he said Wilson had “confidence.”

“This game isn’t Russell Wilson,” Dabour said. “That’s not in Russell Wilson. Let me clarify that. I’m confident in Russ. We have to do a much better job.”

What will the Giants look like to support Wilson and make their work easier? It may start with trying to get more from the team’s running back, who produced just 30 rushing yards on 15 carries against Washington. In comparison, Wilson led the team with 44 yards on eight scrambles.

Still, it’s worth wondering if Wilson can provide the Giants with the spark they need. If Brian Dabour & Company concludes that he cannot, it will place the dirt to see earlier and earlier later.

The Lions are in trouble without Ben Johnson

The Lions joined the 2025 NFL season with new offensive and defensive coordinators after Johnson and Glenn worked as head coaching jobs during the offseason. The devastating change in Detroit was evident in the Green Bay Packers’ season-opening 27-13 loss, particularly in the offense.

The Lions’ offense looked lost without Johnson’s leadership. Jared Goff seemed to prefer to pass horizontally rather than find his weapon down. He was fired four times and threw an intercept while behind his strong offensive line seemed far less confident than usual.

The total number of Goffs wasn’t that bad. He completed 31 of 39 passes for 225 yards, one touchdown and one interception, but it’s worth noting that the score came in the final minute of the game where Green Bay was leading by three scores.

Meanwhile, Detroit’s running game wasn’t as strong as usual against Green Bay. The Lions scored just 46 rushing yards during Sunday’s game. Certainly, they had to abandon their run a bit during the trail, but they averaged only 2.1 yards on 22 totes behind the offensive line of the team’s Franc Ragnaures.

Will the Lions’ inadequate offensive performance simply be a bad day in the office? surely. But nonetheless, Sunday will make Detroit fans, Dan Campbell, and the Lions appear to bounce back to the Chicago Bears in week two.

The ultimate guide to tire maintenance

0

play

The tires will naturally deteriorate over time and will undergo even more damage from pot holes, glass, claws or other debris that you may run on. Keep the tires inflate and spin and constantly checking the tread to last longer.

Here’s how to make the most of your tires:

How long should the tires last?

There are many things that require you to wear tires. The most common is how often a car is driven. The more you drive, the more work your tires can withstand. Age is another factor. For cars that are not driven frequently, the tread will remain on the tires, but the tire structure can deteriorate. Driving over pot holes, running over debris, or grazing curbs will also wear tires faster. Depending on the severity of the potholes and debris, they can instantly flatten the tires.

How do I know which type of tires I have?

Read the sidewall text. This includes information such as make, model, width, aspect ratio, tire load index, tire season, and more. These markings can appear confusing and are often overlooked by car owners. But knowing them is not harmful, so when you’re looking for new tires you can get the right kind. Another way to find the exact size of a tire is to read the owner’s manual.

Check the tire pressure

You need to start with the basics and know the exact tire pressure recommendations for your vehicle. This is on a sticker stuck inside the side door of the screwdriver. To check the current pressure of a tire, many vehicles can use a tire pressure monitor system (TPMS) or a handheld tire pressure gauge.

Check the tread depth

Your tires will have optimal pressure and still have problems. The treads on the tires can grip the streets and maintain traction on smooth roads. You can use the tire tread depth checker to measure the amount remaining. Alternatively, you can use the old-fashioned method to stab the penny into the surface of the tread. If you can see the whole head of an honest Abe Lincoln, there is a small tread left and you will need to change the tires immediately. According to Michelin, the legal limit for tire treads is 2/32 of a inch, and less than that is not safe and must be changed.

Get normal tire rotation

If your vehicle comes with spare tires, you will need to check it occasionally. In a best case scenario, you don’t need to use it, but it’s best to be ready. If the spares of “donuts” or regular tires are small, they should inflate to 60 psi. If you have an SUV or truck with full-size spare tires, you should inflate it to the same recommended PSI as the others. Make sure to include tire rotation in the full rear spare.

Runflat technology

Most flat tires need to be changed immediately, but runflats are different. Runflats have thick sidewalls that can support the weight of the vehicle when the tires are not airy. You can drive up to 50 miles after a flat tire and arrive at the store to get new tires. These tires may be useful, but there are a few drawbacks to consider. They are more expensive than regular tires, hard to find, and have a stiff ride. Another defect in the runflat is that even if the damage is too large, the tires need to be replaced and you can’t drive. Vehicles with runflats usually don’t have a spare, so you’ll have to call and wait for the tow truck.

Changes in seasonal tires

There are tires in all seasons of the year. All seasons, you can drive effectively all year round, regardless of the weather. As good as they play, it cannot be compared to the effectiveness of winter tires during summer tires in cold or warm months. Summer tires provide the best grip when warm, while winter tires are excellent in snow, but in warm climates you struggle with cold temperatures while you struggle with towing.

Take care of performance tires

Tires need to be more careful when driving performance-oriented vehicles. These cars are intended to drive faster, so they pass through the tires faster than regular cars. Check your pressure each year, make them work properly, and keep the tires spinning each year, and the car keeps running as intended. Do your best to avoid dents by driving around them when you can prevent damage to your tires and rims. Slowly going on bumpy roads will protect your tires and prevent the bottom of your car from being rubbed against rubbing if you’re in a low-seat sports car.

Off-road tires

If you live in an area with many dirt roads and enjoy camping trips or off-road trails, you will need the right tires for the occasion. All-terrain tires are perfect for vehicles that sometimes go off-roading, but drive quite a bit on normal roads. Off-road tires are a great option for cars that spend most of their lives on dirt roads and often attack off-road trails. Mud underground tires are for vehicles that frequently drive mud, usually used in heavy-duty trucks and SUVs. All-terrain tires handle daily driving better than mud and off-road tires, but are less effective than all seasons on paved roads.

Tires can be simple and confusing at the same time. If properly maintained, they can last for years. It can also quickly lie flat when you hit a large pothole or drive an object on the road. You can do everything right to take care of your tires and still run into trouble. But under normal circumstances, if you have the right tire for the season, keep up with pressure, get regular rotations, and check the tread, the tires will continue to rotate for years to come.

Her arms “feeled like limp noodles,” so she kept dropping things like hair dryers and apartment keys. Jacksonville, Florida then suddenly collapsed in his bedroom, preparing for work.

She continued to think of the twin girls who were in kindergarten at the time, as if they were in ambulance consciousness.

“I just wanted to see my daughter again,” she said.

At the age of 27, Fonseca suffered a stroke. They are usually associated with adults over the age of 65, but Fonseca is part of a growing trend where more strokes are occurring in younger people.

A 2024 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that the prevalence of stroke increased by almost 15% among people aged 18 to 44.

“There has been a significant increase in stroke incidence among people under the age of 55 over the past 20 years,” said Dr. Lauren Shapiro, medical director of the Brooks Rehabilitation stroke program in Jacksonville, where Fonseca recovered after a stroke. “There are multiple reasons, but the increased prevalence of hypertension is probably the most important thing.”

Stroke symptoms, risk factors for young adults

Certain symptoms of stroke in young people, such as nausea, dizziness and fatigue, are misunderstood or mistaken for migraine or stress, Shapiro said.

“That’s why raising awareness is so important. Every minute is important when it comes to strokes,” she said.

Some of the most commonly rejected symptoms of possible stroke are:

  • Suddenly, nausea and vomiting of unknown cause: “If you feel nausea, sudden, sudden, without explanation, don’t ignore it, especially if it’s combined with dizziness or imbalance,” Shapiro said.
  • The “thunderclap” headache that comes out of nowhere: This type of headache is usually sudden and serious, hitting you “like lightning,” Shapiro said. “Even if you don’t have other stroke symptoms, this type of headache needs immediate attention.”
  • Not weakness, but numbness in one tongue: This may feel like “strange dead arm sensations” or numbness. Shapiro said the symptoms are often dismissed because patients say they can still move their hands and feet, but changes in unilateral sensation can be an early sign of a stroke.
  • Dizziness or sudden loss of balance: Shapiro said this is the main cause of misdiagnosis in young women suffering from strokes, and is sometimes dismissed as inner ear problems, anxiety, or dehydration.
  • Sudden fatigue or mental mist: “Brain mist, confusion, or extreme fatigue is the red flag when they suddenly attack and don’t go away with rest,” Shapiro said.

Young adults also need to recognize factors at high risk of stroke, such as high blood pressure, smoking, high cholesterol, diabetes, substance abuse and bulimia, according to Shapiro. Women who are taking birth control or pregnant may also face an increased risk.

After her stroke, Fonseca lost control on the right side of her body and required weeks of physical therapy and occupational therapy. It took her a month to learn how to drive again and a year to feel like she was.

Almost 15 years later, Fonseca still has problems with balance and fatigue, but she counts her fortune. In Brooks’ rehabilitation, she saw how strokes can cause lifelong disability in many patients.

“It’s still a daily struggle, but some people aren’t as lucky as me,” she said. “If all I have to worry about is balance and fatigue, then it’s much worse for others, so I count my blessings.”

When is the binding power of an online arbitration agreement? – September 9th

Chiluttiv. UberPennsylvania Supreme Court

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court will take up legal rules applicable to online arbitration agreements, particularly those entered into through a set of hyperlinked “Terms of Use.” Uber is about to force arbitration against the couple who sued for being injured while riding. When the couple signed up for the ride-sharing service, the company claims that by creating an account, they received a notice that they agreed to the company’s hyperlinked terms and conditions, including the arbitration agreement. The couple testified that they had never clicked on the hyperlink, and therefore the terms of arbitration were not displayed.

Midterm Court I said The couple was not bound by the contract. The court also Federal Test If the terms of arbitration can be enforced against users who are insufficient to waive strong rights to a trial in the Pennsylvania Constitution. That right requires a more stringent standard to prove that the user has clearly demonstrated that he will arbitrate, and the court has required the company on the registration page to agree to “conditions and conditions” and state it expressly and expressly by prominently displaying the terms of arbitration on the hyperlink page. For appeals, including Uber and the industry’s Amicus Group US Chamber of Commerceclaims that this more rigorous test violates federal laws governing arbitration.

Are the voters in the requirement handwritten dates for the voting constitution? – September 10th

Baxter v. Philadelphia Election Commission, Pennsylvania Supreme Court

The Pennsylvania High Court will also consider whether voters are violating the “free and equal” election clauses of the state’s constitution to prevent mail-in votes from counting.

Last October, the Court of Appeal Domination The state high court’s refusal to count undated or false votes in the special election in September, but violated its provisions. I said The law should then remain valid in the 2024 general election. Voters supported by voting rights groups Legal Scholarargues that requirements play no role in establishing eligibility or timeliness for votes. The Republican National Committee, which supports the rules, has argued that it is erroneous in finding that the Court of Appeals violates the basic right to vote for citizens.

Handwritten date requirements are subject to several state and federal challenges. In federal courts, the recent Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit support The lower court’s findings to abolish votes based on requirements violate the 1st and 14th amendments to the US Constitution. The US Supreme Court may consider the decision, but the Pennsylvania Supreme Court The final words If it was independent to find that the rules violate the state constitution.

Statev. HidlebaughIowa Supreme Court

The Iowa Supreme Court will resolve whether the imposed sentence is at least partially based on the inability to purchase the defendant’s home, and at least partially on the basis of breach of state or federal equal protection guarantees. The defendant pleaded guilty to violating previous sex offender registration requirements, which involves struggling to find a consistent rental property and failing to update his address while with a friend. With a stable housing goal, the judiciary agreement said prosecutors recommend sentences and probation to be suspended in place of prisons. Flight from police in high crime areas as the basis for stoppage – September 10th

Commonwealthv. ShiversPennsylvania Supreme Court

To justify the suspension of police, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will weigh whether people fleeing officers in crime areas can create reasonable doubts about the crime. Previous State High Court Domination The suspension of flights from law enforcement violated the fourth amendment and the search and seizure clause of the state constitution; I reversed myself After the US Supreme Court was held Illinois vs. wardrobe Unprovoked flights at high places of crime can support stops under the federal constitution.

Defendant in this case, Amicus support From the ACLU, I’ll encourage you The state Supreme Court held that it was originally correct for the purposes of the Pennsylvania search and seizure clause. Differences in text, structure and history, they support the arguing and interpreting state clauses to protect them from termination of investigations over the Fourth Amendment. They also argue that relying on neighborhood crime rates as a justification for denying privacy rights is discriminatory. The defendant argues that many people (including many people of color) cannot afford to live elsewhere.

Charter School State Constitution – September 11th

Commonwealthv. Councilfor Better Education; Lafontaine v. Council for Better EducationKentucky Supreme Court

The Kentucky Supreme Court will take up whether the laws governing civil servant schools violate the requirements of the state constitution. In response to the challenges supported Hundreds School districts, courts I hit it The law determines that charter schools are “private companies” with their own autonomy and the ability to restrict registrations that introduce the constitutional definition of “public” or “common schools.” Appeal, Want to Be a State and Charter School Operator I’ll point it out that 45 states There are schools like that now. They too Make a claim “Public charter schools represent the highest aspirations for the 1989 Kentucky Supreme Court landmark decision, as they rely entirely on community involvement, assessment tests and parents voting on their own feet.” Rose v. Does the state’s dark money disclosure requirements violate freedom of speech? – September 11th

Arizona Policy Center vs. Secretary of ArizonaArizona Supreme Court

The Arizona Supreme Court hears an appeal of lower court rejection of challenges to Arizona’s “Dark Money” Disclosure Act. This is a law passed by a citizen initiative that seeks to regulate the practices that hide the identity of political contributors by passing money through the middle section. The plaintiffs argue that conservative nonprofits and donors are not interfering with “private issues” among other debates, as the law violates the state’s constitutional rights to free speech. Courts are expected to address whether federal “hard scrutiny” standards of disclosure law should be adopted in assessing the right to speech under the Arizona Constitution.

March, State High Court I heard it Another appeal relating to the same law. In that case, the Court of Appeal agreed with the lawmakers that the provision restricting parliamentary oversight regarding parliamentary execution violated the separation of powers. In that case, the lawmakers argued to the state high court that the remaining laws, including disclosure requirements, should be struck as inseparable from the blocked enforcement clause.

Do gift clauses apply to economic development grants? – September 11th

JP Morgan Chasev. Cityof CorsicanaTexas Supreme Court

The Texas Supreme Court is 1987 revision Publicly funded economic development programs are approved by a separate “Gift Clause“The state constitution generally prohibits private organizations from grants for public funds unless grants have primarily public purposes and government controls the funds. The Intermediate Court of Appeals found it violated a contract by a local government that would support the development of the retail centre and provide private venture tax improvement bodies to help build major stores.

Regardless of the appeal, the contract beneficiaries argue that submitting economic development projects to a gift clause ignores the preface “notwithstanding other provisions” of the amendment. Even if the gift clause is applied, the beneficiaries are arguing in the alternative, and therefore the appeals court’s decision undermines Texas’ strong policy of supporting freedom of contracts, as it ignored the decision to lengthen the local division that the construction of retail hubs serves public purposes. in friend BriefsTexas Attorney General and conservative nonprofits argue that the gift clause should apply.

Minimum Wage Exemption for Caregivers – September 16th

AssureCare Adult Homev. BolinaWashington Supreme Court

The Washington Supreme Court will address the constitutionality of states in Washington’s minimum wage, overtime, and sick leave laws for live-in caregivers for seniors or disabled adults. A group of caregivers argue that exemptions violate the Washington Constitution’s prohibition on laws granting unequal privileges and immunity, as they undermine the rights of caregivers as workers, while undermining labor standards and workers’ rights, while still giving some employers immunity. Exclusion also has racist and sexist origins. 83% of women and almost half of non-white peopleclaims a group of plaintiffs and amicus, including the National Employment Law Project and the National Women’s Law Center. To defend the exemption, employers say they can’t afford to keep driving a home for vulnerable adults if they need to pay the minimum wage for all live-in care hours.

Chrysler Pacifica Vans is based on NHTSA’s investigation into steering concerns

play

Federal safety regulators are investigating nearly 300,000 Chrysler minivans over reports of pilot malfunctions that officials say could lead to crashes.

On Monday, September 8, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that it had begun an investigation into the Chrysler minivan after reporting issues with the vehicle’s electric power steering.

According to the NHTSA, the investigation covers an estimated 287,000 vehicles and was prompted after the agency received nearly 100 complaints related to minivan piloting issues.

Which models are affected?

NHTSA research will affect vehicles for the following models and years:

  • Chrysler Pacifica: 2017-2018
  • Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid: 2017

The NHTSA reported that the steering system on some vehicles “expresses a sticky feeling” “especially when positioned near the 11 o’clock or 1 o’clock position.”

In many cases, the problem can cause oversteer conditions, which can increase the risk of crashes, especially at high speeds, regulators reported.

For more information about the probe, call NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
