Cinco de Mayo is an important date in Mexican history, with conflict with France. Many restaurants serve appetizers and drinks, making it a day to celebrate food.

May 5th: How to make margarita mix
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with this delicious homemade margarita mix.
The problem has been resolved
Starting its week on Monday, May 5th, Cinco de Mayo is the perfect day to celebrate Mexican heritage. But before ordering a modelo, margarita or chips and queso, take a moment to consider the meaning of a holiday.
Many think that is equivalent to the US July 4th, but that’s not the case. Mexico gained independence from Spain on September 16, 1810, and the Mexican revolution that began on November 20, 1910 will not end until ten years later.
However, May 5, 1862 marks the important battle in Mexico’s battle with France led by Napoleon III (Napoleon I’s nephew). At the Battle of Puebla, Mexican troops of enlisted soldiers and volunteers defeated 6,000 French forces, History.com said.
According to History.com, Mexico’s victory prevented the French from solving and supporting the American Confederates in the Civil War. The newspaper reported that Mexican-Americans and Latinos in California celebrated Cinco de Mayo’s victory that year.
One in five Americans (17%) will celebrate Cinco de Mayo this year, according to research firm Mathematics. Most celebrations said they plan to go out for meals (38%), family and friends (35%) or go out for drinks, the company’s research found.
