For the first time during the 2026 World Cup, US President Donald Trump attended Congress.
Trump watched the final between Argentina and Spain at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and waited until the end to make his first appearance.
The president was one of many dignitaries in attendance. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also attended the match, with all three tournament host nations represented.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and King Felipe VI were also in attendance, but Argentina’s President Javier Millay was absent from the match, citing superstitions.

Who will Donald Trump sit with at the World Cup final?
Trump flew into MetLife Stadium on Marine One and eventually took a seat in the box before kickoff.
During the national anthem, President Trump was joined by First Lady Melania Trump, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and Spanish Football Federation President Rafael Luzan.
After the game started, President Trump sat between the first lady and Infantino.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also seen in the row behind President Trump.
