Michael Kim talks about shooting 59 at 3M Open and making PGA Tour history
Michael Kim birdied the second round of the 3M Open with four holes remaining to become the 16th round of sub-60 in PGA Tour history.
Professional golfer Trey Mullinax has been suspended for violating the PGA Tour’s anti-doping policy after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
The PGA Tour announced in a statement on Wednesday, July 29, that Mullinax, 34, will be suspended for six months and will be eligible to return on January 16, 2027. It added that Mullinax “fully cooperated with the Tour throughout the entire process and accepted the suspension.”
Mullinax acknowledged responsibility for his actions in a statement provided by the PGA Tour, explaining that he “recently used drugs to treat an illness that was first diagnosed during his college days without seeking approval under the Tour’s anti-doping policy.”
“At the end of the day, it’s my responsibility to understand and follow the PGA Tour’s anti-doping policy and all its rules. I failed to do that. That’s my responsibility,” Mullinax added. “My lack of knowledge is no excuse. It was my responsibility to know the rules before taking the drug, and I failed to do so. To be clear, I have never taken a drug for the purpose of gaining a competitive advantage. Anyone who knows me knows how much I respect this game and the values it represents.”
“I accept the consequences of my actions and use this experience as a lesson. Golf has given me so much and I never want one mistake to define my respect for golf and those who support me. I thank everyone who has supported me and look forward to competing again in 2027.”
Mullinax has one PGA Tour win in his career, coming in the 2022 Barbasol Championship, but he failed to qualify in both of the PGA Tour events he played this season. The PGA Tour’s anti-doping policy began in 2008, and at least five golfers have been suspended under the policy since then.
