Something you purchased has been recalled. What does that mean?
What happens if something you purchase is recalled? Is it voluntary or mandatory? And what does it mean for you?
More than 17,000 coffee makers sold online have been recalled after dozens of consumers reported being burned by hot liquid or steam that was unexpectedly released during use.
Kidisl recalled approximately 17,600 hot and iced coffee machines on June 11, according to a recall report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Equipment can become clogged and hot liquids or vapors can build up and be released without warning.
The hazard has been linked to more than 100 reported accidents and at least 27 injuries, including first- and second-degree burns that required medical treatment, the report said.
What coffee makers are recalled?
This recall affects Kidisle brand hot and iced coffee machines, model KC101B.
The single-serve coffee maker comes in black, white, and gray and measures approximately 11 inches tall and 6 inches wide. It features a 50-ounce removable water tank and can brew 6 to 14 ounces of coffee using coffee grounds or coffee pods.
Consumers can identify the recalled product by checking the model number “KC101B” on the sticker attached to the bottom of the machine. The Kidisle brand name can also be found on your product order receipt.
How many people have been reported injured?
The CPSC said it is aware of at least 107 reports of coffee makers unexpectedly releasing hot liquid or steam.
At least 27 people were reported injured in these incidents, including severe burns that required medical treatment.
Where was the recalled coffee maker sold?
The recalled appliances were sold online through Amazon.com, Walmart.com and eBay.com.
They were sold for about $49 from June 2024 to April 2026, according to the recall report.
What should consumers do?
Consumers should immediately stop using recalled coffee makers.
To receive a full refund, Kidisle is asking customers to destroy the product by unplugging it and cutting the power cord. Consumers must then write “Recall” on the coffee maker with a permanent marker and email a photo of the broken appliance, visible model number, and disconnected power cord to KidisleKC101Brecall@outlook.com.
