JD and Usha Vance welcome baby boy
J.D. Vance and his wife Usha Vance have welcomed a newborn, making them the first vice presidents in more than 150 years to welcome a child while in office.

Last Friday, July 24, Usha Vance, who gave birth to her fourth child with Vice President J.D. Vance, posted a photo of her family of six and a close-up shot of the baby boy, whom the couple named Alec Neil Vance. The opportunity makes Vance the first vice president in more than 150 years to welcome a child while in office.
The second woman, like the baby, was dressed in white from head to toe. The vice president, on the other hand, wore a cream white shirt, blue pants and a gray jacket.
“Thank you for all the good wishes as we adjust to life as a family of six 🩵,” X’s caption reads. “Meet Alec. Enjoy trying to take a decent family photo with four kids!”
Usha Vance gave birth on July 19 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
“We are thrilled to announce the birth of our baby boy, Alec Neil Vance, this morning,” the Vance family said on social media. “Usha and the baby are happy and healthy. Our children are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”
The Vances already have three young children. Ewan (9 years old), Ewan (9 years old). Vivek, 6 years old. and Mirabel, 4.
The next day, on July 20, President Donald Trump shared a photo of the newborn on Truth Social while congratulating the couple, writing, “Congratulations! The perfect baby boy for the wonderful Vance family.”
About having another baby
Usha Vance spoke candidly about her decision to have her fourth child in a wide-ranging new interview with Moms for America published June 30th.
“I always knew I wanted two kids, and when I had my second one, I knew I wanted a third because I really love kids. It seemed so obvious,” Usha Vance said. “But then we had our third child, and that was in the middle of JD’s Senate campaign. Of course, our lives have been just an epic mess ever since.”
Usha Vance added that another child “wasn’t really on the bingo card at first,” but her husband “always really wanted another child.”
“We talked about it a lot,” Usha Vance said. “And I started to feel an openness to it. And I thought, if I’m feeling an openness, I should see if it happens. Give myself a window of possibility.”
She also said she knew she would be happy either way, but was “really thrilled” with how everything turned out.
Meanwhile, the vice president suggested in his new memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, that his wife changed her mind about having more children after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated last September.
“I have been asking Usha to have another baby for years and she has been telling me for years that she already has, especially now that our public engagements have brought us national attention,” he wrote. “But something changed for Usha. Shortly after burying her friend, she became pregnant with our fourth child, a boy.”
