At a Fourth of July public safety press conference, New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch acknowledged that she was “following up on the incident that occurred at Madison Square Garden on Friday night,” but declined to provide further details.
“The NYPD will of course work out the details, but I won’t go into any further details at this time,” Tisch said alongside Mayor Zoran Mamdani at 1st Police Square.
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.) criticized New York City tax dollars being used to pay for police staffing at a reported wedding in midtown Manhattan.
“Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce should reimburse the NYPD for the 130 police officers per day needed to keep their multi-million dollar, 1,000-person wedding at MSG safe,” Malliotakis, a Staten Island native, said in an X-Post. “Our nation’s employees are already working overtime for the Fourth of July, and New York City taxpayers should not be left in the lurch.”
The city’s police union has condemned the deployment of police during the World Cup, Fourth of July weekend and now a reported wedding. Unions are complaining that the city’s holiday pay is delayed as police work throughout the weekend.
Scott Munro, president of the Detective Fund Association, told the New York Times that Swift and Kelsey “should get married in Pennsylvania or wherever she’s from,” citing fatigue among officers who were already working overtime. –Eduardo Cuevas
The dress code is black tie, and guests are encouraged to wear top hats for men and long gloves for women for the “magical” summer evening, officials told USA TODAY.
But what do brides wear when they walk down the aisle? Many fans are expecting a big and possibly strange announcement.
Reports from TMZ and the New York Post link the couple’s celebration to Madison Square Garden, but neither Swift nor Kelsea have commented publicly.
USA TODAY has confirmed that permits related to Madison Square Garden were applied for from July 2nd to July 4th. However, the records do not identify Swift or Kelsey, nor do they say whether the event is directly related to the couple.
New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani mentioned “Taylor Swift’s wedding” when discussing public safety plans for the busy Fourth of July weekend. City officials later clarified that the mayor was not confirming his own knowledge of the wedding, but was referring to previously published media reports. Mamdani agreed to work up to 12 hours of overtime with the New York City Police Department.
The city can be packed with events, including World Cup games, the 250th anniversary of American independence, the Sail 250 Ocean Rally, and weddings that can attract hundreds of fans.
Ed Sheeran, who may perform at the wedding, was spotted with musician Aaron Dessner, one of Swift’s longtime collaborators, at Buonasera on the Lake pizza restaurant in Malta, New York (about a three-hour drive from New York City). A fan shared a photo of Sabrina Carpenter on X that appears to be at Emmet’s on Grove in New York City.
According to Page Six, it won’t be a long commute for the New York Knicks’ five starters: Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, and invitational goal scorer Karl-Anthony Towns. After all, Madison Square Garden is where the Knicks helped the franchise win its first NBA championship in 53 years.
Few details about the other guests have been revealed. Suki Waterhouse, Selena Gomez, the Haim sisters, Zoe Kravitz, Emma Stone, Gigi Hadid and Jack Antonoff are all likely to be in attendance.
Actress Mariska Hargitay, who joined Swift courtside at Madison Square Garden during Game 4 of the NBA Finals, appears to have one glaring gap in her Broadway schedule. While she is appearing on “Every Brilliant Thing,” July 3rd is the only Friday with no performances scheduled.
According to the New York Times, CNN and ABC, the couple will host a rehearsal event on July 2, followed by a large celebration on July 3 that will last until 4 a.m. and feature about 1,000 guests. Neither Swift nor Kelce has publicly acknowledged the plan.
Swift hasn’t revealed who designed the gown, but there are several possibilities based on the designers she has frequently worn throughout her career, although there could likely be more than one.

Stella McCartney (she is rumored to be attending the wedding). Jonathan Anderson at Christian Dior. Vivienne Westwood is known for her romantic corset bridal dresses. Page Six said luxury event planner Mark Seed was involved in the celebration, a choice that was in line with the couple’s values of privacy and discretion.
Mr. Seed is one of the lowest-profile names in the celebrity events industry, having previously worked on high-profile weddings for Jennifer Lawrence, Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley.
Fans may remember Antonoff and Qualley’s 2023 New Jersey wedding because Swift was in attendance.
