This year’s gubernatorial and House of Representatives elections in Arizona are closely related.
When U.S. Rep. David Schweikert retired from Congress to run for governor, a spot opened in the state’s 1st Congressional District. This opens the door for Jay Feeley, a former NFL player and candidate backed by President Donald Trump, to win the Republican nomination for the same seat in Arizona’s July 21 primary. But Schweikert couldn’t score. He lost to U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs, who also won on a pro-Trump platform.
And if Republicans want to maintain their slim House majority, that means defending many seats in battleground states, while three in Arizona are targeted by Democrats.

District 1
- Republican: Jay Feely (49.7% of the vote) defeated Joseph Czaplik (35.3%) with an estimated 76% of votes counted.
- Democratic Party: This race has not yet been called. Amish Shah (41.6% of the vote) leads Marlene Galan-Woods (32.7%) with an estimated 77% of votes counted.
district 2
- Republican: Incumbent Congressman Eli Crane won by a landslide.
- Democratic Party: Jonathan Nez won the race uncontested.
district 3
- Republican: Write-in Nicholas Glenn won the race uncontested.
- Democratic Party: Incumbent Congressman Yasamin Ansari won an uncontested victory.
District 4
- Republican: Zudi Jasser won uncontested.
- Democratic Party: Incumbent Rep. Greg Stanton (66.6% of the vote) defeated Kai Newkirk (33.4%) with an estimated 77% of votes counted.
5th ward
- Republican: Mark Lamb (59% of the vote) defeated Daniel Keenan (41%) with an estimated vote count of 74%.
- Democratic Party: Elizabeth Lee (64.7% of the vote) defeated Chris James (22%) with an estimated vote count of 76%.
district 6
- Republican: Incumbent Congressman Juan Siscomani won in a landslide.
- Democratic Party: Joanna Mendoza won uncontested.
district 7
- Republican: Daniel Francis Butilles won uncontested.
- Democratic Party: Incumbent Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva won uncontested.
District 8
- Republican: Incumbent lawmaker Abe Hamade won without a vote.
- Democratic Party: Bernadette Green-Plasencia (64.8% of the vote) defeated Ray Keeler (35.2%) with an estimated 75% of votes counted.
district 9
- Republican: Incumbent Congressman Paul Gosar won an uncontested victory.
- Democratic Party: Dani Starbinksy won the race uncontested.
