President Donald Trump has announced new leadership for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, naming former Deputy Surgeon General Erica Schwartz to head the CDC.

“Erica graduated from Brown University and medical school, went on to a distinguished career as an M.D. in the world’s largest and most powerful military, and then served as Deputy Surgeon General during my first term. She is a star,” President Trump said in a post on Truth Social on April 16.

Schwartz served as Deputy Surgeon General during President Trump’s first term. The CDC has not had a permanent director since August.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
