A gut health brand is making waves because it wants to help people “relax” when they go to the bathroom.
Gut health brand Let Loose announced the launch of the Sh-t shoe on July 8th, and its promotional materials quickly drew praise. This “shoe” is a toilet stool (think Squatty Potty) designed to improve posture during defecation. The 7-inch-tall stool looks like a pair of 1970s disco pumps.
“Every generation is defined by its innovations. The wheel, the light bulb, the internet, man reached the moon. And yet, somehow, we abandoned the squat,” the promotional video for “Shoes” proclaims. “For more than a century, we’ve been solving the wrong problems. Until now. Years of development, countless prototypes, and precious engineering to raise the knees 7 inches to optimize colon position.”
Perhaps it’s their absurdity, or their timing, during a nationwide outbreak of cyclosporiasis, an intestinal disease that causes explosive diarrhea. Nevertheless, Sh-t Shoes have been popular online since their launch, with one size sold out within a week of their release, according to the Let Loose website.
“It makes squatting sexy again,” one Instagram user commented on Rhett Ruth’s post promoting the shoes. Another user wrote, “Ah, finally a solution to not having ugly poop in the toilet!! Thanks for thinking of this!”
Founded by Alexandra Houx Grounds, Let Loose is a gut health brand offering nutritional supplements, constipation drink mixes, flushable toilet wipes, koji digestive enzymes (a Japanese fermented grain that acts as a natural digestive aid), prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics.
