Something you purchased has been recalled. What does that mean?
What happens if something you purchase is recalled? Is it voluntary or mandatory? And what does it mean for you?
Panasonic is recalling approximately 11,500 electronic toasters sold on its website, Costco’s online shop, Amazon, and other online retailers nationwide.
A defective toaster power cord can pose an electric shock or fire hazard, according to a notice published July 16 on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website.
Here’s what you need to know about the recall and what to do if you have a toaster at home.
Defective power cord creates a risk of electric shock or fire
On July 16th, Panasonic announced a recall for the electric toaster oven model number “NB-G200”. These were on sale from October 2024 to April 2026 and cost around $170 each.
The recall affects approximately 11,480 units sold in the United States through Panasonic’s website, as well as Costco’s online shop, Amazon, and other online retailers across the United States. An additional 2,184 units were sold in Canada.
According to the notice, the problem is caused by the protective fiberglass sleeve not properly covering the power cord and providing insufficient insulation.
What should I do if I have an NB-G200 electric toaster oven?
There have been no reports of fires or injuries, but the recall notice states there have been four reports from consumers of circuit breakers or outlets tripping, and one report of the product not working.
If you own a toaster oven, please stop using it immediately and contact Panasonic for a full refund.
