The former federal worker has been elected to the local New Jersey office

0

Approximately four months after resigning from the federal agency, Trump was rebranded as a US Doge service, with the New Jersey resident winning a local office with 49 votes.

play

Itil Cole tried to take a little break after quitting his job with the federal government early in the Trump administration.

“I tried to read a book, I tried to watch Netflix. But one or two of them, and I’m fine, I was fine. What’s up now?” Cole, 40, told USA Today.

Her husband then unfairly stated that there was an open seat in the governing body of her New Jersey town. Her age and life experience had no plans to bid for the nonpartisan Haddonfield Borough Committee.

So she did that.

Cole won the mid-May race with 49 votes, about four months after resigning from the US digital service. Federal agency President Donald Trump and entrepreneur Elon Musk have been rebranded as US Doge services. A ritual oath took place on May 27th.

Her victory places her at the forefront of a flood of federal workers looking to run for office. Many say they want to continue serving Americans after Trump leaves the government voluntarily or through a massive layoff as he is dramatically reducing federal workers.

Why she quit her job in the government

Cole said her year and a half in the federal government was a key point in her life. She spent most of her career managing her product and building healthcare software for the private sector.

“It felt like the federal government had hit all my checkboxes,” she said. “I can make a living. I feel good about what I do every day. I contribute to my community, my country’s health. Looking back, I’m really proud to have contributed as a small part of it.”

US Digital Services employees have been detailed to other agencies to help revise or monitor high-priority technology projects. Cole has worked with the Centers for Disease Control to improve its cross-state infection surveillance system following the Covid-19 pandemic.

But the arrival of Doge employees on the day of inauguration changed the nonpartisan technology agency, Cole said.

“Work has changed quite a bit overnight,” she said.

All employees were interviewed to questions they felt were asking about their loyalty to the new administration. She was hired as a remote employee, but there was talk of asking for a return to the office. She said the “forks on the road” email told federal government employees to ride or leave the changes they would like to clean was the last straw.

White House press did not respond to requests for comment.

Cole, like everyone else, chose to resign immediately. On her last day, February 14th, the remaining 40 or so members of her team were fired, she said.

“Now, I’ll do that.”

When she first saw the Haddonfield Borough Commission race, Cole said she was wary that none of the candidates represent the so-called sandwich generation.

She begged her friends to run, acted as a campaign manager and offered to host a campaign event, but no one had time.

“I have not been able to let go of the fact that there are no women with young families who balance work and family life responsibilities. No one in our stage will be there, and decisions will be made that are not the best interests of the entire community,” Cole said. “So I thought, I understand, I’ll do that.”

Cole had to move quickly to get on the vote in 12,500 suburban towns not too far from Philadelphia.

She compiled 100 signed petitions over three days. It’s twice as many as you need. They didn’t have time to build a coalition of supporters, mentor new candidates, or receive support from candidate recruitment groups that were full of requests for help from former federal employees.

She just had to make it into a wing.

Cole said she started with a handful of regulars she knew at her local coffee shop. The former head of the local soccer league sat down with her and introduced her to the Lions club, Rotary club and various nonprofits. Soon people offered to host a house party to introduce her to their neighborhood.

“I accepted all the invitations and put myself out there as much as I could,” she said.

The campaign as an introvert was painful, Cole said. The position was nonpartisan and could focus on local issues such as affordable housing, busy schools and new soccer fields.

Part-time commissioner jobs pay $6,000 a year. Cole said he expects to go primarily to the costs associated with the role. She is still looking for a full-time job.

Cole said she doesn’t think much about the political future. She says she believes the post should spin among community members and is not planning to hold the position past a single four-year term.

“What I will spend the next four years is making sure people see this as a very viable job.

Miley Cyrus soars to “something beautiful”: Review

0

play

A few months after releasing the Grammy-winning “Endless Summer Vacation” album, Miley Cyrus dropped a surprise song.

The “Once upon a Younger” story follows her journey from the naive, charming hell of her 20s to the insightful and distinctive hell of 30 years old.

Two years later, Cyrus settled in a gap of determination and creativity, evolving into one of the most charismatic singers and intriguing songwriters of her generation.

Now, with her ninth studio album, “Something Beautiful” (May 30), she is offering fans a new musical view that exists in harmony with banger and ballad. In addition to the album drop, Cyrus will release a visual film of the same name, premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 6th and will perform in cinemas nationwide for just one day on June 12th.

Often bored with respect to ancestors such as Stevie Nicks and Joan Jett, Cyrus said the inspiration for her ambitious projects was Pink Floyd’s 1979 masterpiece, “The Wall.”

If you go to the concept album route, you can also study Masters.

Thirteen tracks of “Something Beautiful” revolve around the conventional themes of heartbreak and trauma, but Cyrus also offers a shade of soore and optimism, with her distinctive, sniffing voice set in Soar Mode.

She used a ballad (“More to Lose” with an infectious “end of the world”) sewn together, and created an art rock/pop opera using Buzzy Electronic instrumentals.

Still, I have my favorite songs. Let’s solve Cyrus’ best “something beautiful”:

“The Golden Burning Sun”

It blends into the gentle chewing grooves and Strammy acoustic guitars that deliberately wink the Laurel Canyon Crew of the early 70s. Cyrus’s interest in the dark and light dichotomous musical style is in the spotlight, but in the end she embraces the dreamy side. “Subadge…and I will never disappoint you,” she promises, her voice lends a dash of sweetness to the song, as her voice enters her girly highs.

“A walk of fame”

From the explosion of the opening of guest Brittany Howard’s vocalization and galloping keyboards, the Pulse Dance song vibrates with energy. This is the sound of today collided with squeeze synthesizers walled around European nightclubs in the 80s. It is also the longest song on the album in six minutes, with many of its tails paying homage to the Giorgio Moroder/Dona Summer Disco voyage.

“All the girls you’ve ever loved”

Some of the album’s tracks feature prominent saxophones (records of the ’80s national anthem), and this song is no exception. Before the synthesizer walls begin to ping pong, the hypnotic beats (including the red hot chili peppers chives) settle in as the backdrop for the rebellious lyrics. “I will match my bag with my new dress/I still look like ten, but my hair is confused,” she sings in lament, but a confident declaration. Supermodel Naomi Campbell appeared in the song, adding a stylishly spoken word poem with repeated “posing”;

‘give me love’

Cyrus ends his musical expedition, with a sweep ballad, a whirlwind of atmosphere voices and sounds that play beautifully with his visual counterpart. Cyrus leaning against her apocalyptic thinking, whispering canvas in strings, flute, acoustic guitar and sitar colours reveals, “I say goodbye to earthly joy. Even in the song, Cyrus never admits.

Rotimi and Vanessa Mudi: How their chance romance immerses deep in their faith and purpose

0

Atlanta, Georgia
CNN
–

When Nigerian-American actor singer Rotimi and Tanzanian pop star Vanessamdi first met in 2019, it was the beginning of a love story that neither of them had hoped for.

The first encounter six years ago could be directly from ROM-COM. They both just performed at the Essence Culture Festival in New Orleans, and ended with the same spot-filed after party. But there were other plans in fate.

“She was sitting on the pool table,” laughs Rotimi. “The light was shining and shining.

A friend of Rotimi’s introduced us, leading to a deep conversation for several hours. Within a few days they were unable to separate. A long distance relationship began between Vanessa in Tanzania, Rotimi in Atlanta, Georgia, and Rotimi in the United States. “I never left,” Vanessa says with a laugh.

Now, for a few years, their two children, and after their wedding, the power couple was held at CNN’s Larry Madowo in their first joint interview about love, heritage and life of deliberate faith.

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced much of the world into tranquility for Rotimi and Vanessa, but it has become a sacred era. “He really thanked God because he created an environment for us so that we could get to know each other on a very intimate and spiritual level,” Vanessa recalls.

In the quiet Rotimi and Vanessa of the pandemic (pictured here in April 2025), they found their rhythm in Atlanta, changing the lockdown to a season of love, growth and new beginnings.

With the encouragement of Rotimi, she booked a flight to the US for a mini vacation, but ended up having to stay extended due to travel restrictions.

“If I had been a day late, I wouldn’t have seen each other for more than nine months when the border was locked,” she says.

The lockdown has both become much-needed breaks.

“I came to the scene when I was 18, so at this point I was doing well into my 30s so I never took a break,” adds Vanessa.

The timing was also divine for Rotimi, who just released a hit “In My Bed.”

“For me, if the world had been open during that time and the ‘in my bed’ record had just come out, I would have been moving around the tour for the full run of that song.

The holidays say it allows something deeper than fame to grow, causing a journey to faith, family and purpose.

“God wanted me to sit down and heal a lot of things,” adds Rotimi.

Once one of East Africa’s biggest music stars, Vanessa made headlines when she left the industry at the height of her 2020 career. However, this decision was not impulsive.

“For me, the (music industry) was draining my mental, mental, emotional and physical health in many ways. I looked at many different evils that aren’t good for me as a person,” she says.

“It’s where the music industry has become so toxic to me. I’m not saying it’s everyone’s story. It’s my story.”

Today, she co-led with For To Bearth, a wellness app and community based on the couple’s faith, and she mentors women all over the world through biblical studies, prayer circles and now women’s conferences.

“I just want it every time I step out and do something meaningful, purposeful, effective,” she adds.

Rotimi will appear on stage during the 2018 Essence Festival in New Orleans a year ago when she met Vanessa Mudie at the same event.

Rotimi, whose real name is Orlottimi Akino Show, continues to build his career in his current role as Pastor Charles in the Showtime series “Chee,” but embraced a life beyond the spotlight. While releasing new music.

“The job is to become a ship,” says the 36-year-old. “God works in a mysterious way. It’s not a cookie cutter approach. It’s more of a detour.”

Their love is bold and deeply rooted. Married in 2021, they call their relationship “kingdom marriage” and are based on their shared faith.

“We’re not perfect,” says Vanessa. “But we know who is at the heart of it: God.”

CNN's Larry Madowo shares a moment of joy with Rotimi, Vanessa Mdee and their children, seven (left) and Imani (right).

Together, they raise two children and navigate mixed culturalists in harmony with Yoruba, Swahili and American traditions.

“(The kids) know they are 50% Tanzanians and 50% Nigerians. They can defend that,” says Rotimi. “It’s about giving our children roots and wings.”

“To lay a strong foundation for children, you need to have a lot of time, commitment, and very present. You play with them, develop skills, and hone your craft while giving them a strong foundation,” adds Vanessa.

From love-centered music and wellness apps to Bible studies, Rotimi and Vanessa feel they are on a mission that reflects a deeper calling. However, when asked if there would be a ministry in the future, the couple were uncertain.

“It’s stupid to say no, but it’s too early to say yes,” says Rotimi.

“Whatever we do, we know that it will be for his glory,” adds Vanessa.

Smoke, dust may affect our sky this weekend

0

play

Harmful wildfire smoke from Canada will infiltrate the US north this weekend, as African dust clouds approach the east. They have nothing to do with Trump’s tariffs and may not be as sinister as they look, but their presence stands out.

Meteorologists are particularly tracking smoke that originates from wildfires on Canadian territory from British Columbia to Manitoba, which can cause health problems in American soils.

Smoke has already been detected floating through Montana, North Dakota and northern Minnesota, and air quality alerts have been issued. Smoke is expected to spread over the Midwest on Friday and Saturday. Before heading southeast, cloud coverings minimize the effect.

Although not on the same scale as the spring and summer of 2023, more than 800 Canadian wildfires burned more than 40 million acres, burning large stripes of the Midwest and East in grey hazes, the current spato of around 150 flames expands across the border when blown southeast.

Milwaukee on the Smoke Road, Chicago

The main population areas around Chicago and Milwaukee are probably in the smoke path, and perhaps Detroit and Indianapolis.

Accuweather meteorologist Elizabeth Danko said “in parts of the Midwest, and even parts of the Ohio Valley will be able to see more smoke by Sunday.”

How serious they become can be determined by the rise in smoke in the atmosphere. At low levels, it can not only cause difficulty in breathing, but also impair vision when driving. Keeping it high leads to a lively sunrise and sunset in practice.

The same phenomenon may be on display. The appearance of Sahara dust clouds is quite common at this time of year. The first of the two big ones is ready to arrive this weekend, with aspirations for Florida and the Gulf Coast, in addition to parts of the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America.

Dust clouds have several advantages

The second is even bigger, and by Thursday morning it could cover everything in Florida and most of the Bay.

Danko said that it cannot present a health threat or affect air quality as it remains primarily at high levels in the atmosphere. Dust clouds are the opposite of things dealing with the nutrition of weather systems like hurricanes, and can actually have the beneficial effects of inhibiting the formation and development of storms.

Furthermore, the hazy sky they create becomes very lively as the sun rises and sets.

“They have a nice orange shade for them,” Danko said. “It’s really cool to look at the sky. There should be some good photos.”

A Mayan complex that has been discovered for nearly 3,000 years, featuring pyramids and canals

CNN
–

Archaeologists have discovered the remains of a Mayan complex that lasted nearly three,000 years in Guatemala, revealing a unique canal system that can shed even more light on sanctuaries, pyramids and ancient civilizations, the country’s culture minister said Thursday.

The complex was found at three sites: Los Abueros, Petonal and Kambrayal, near the important Mayan site in the Ukyactan area in the Peten region of northern Guatemala, the ministry said in a statement.

The Mayan civilization occurred around 2,000 BC, reaching 400-900 AD, mainly in Mexico and Guatemala. At that height, people built temples, roads, pyramids and other monuments, developing complex systems of writing, mathematics and astronomy.

The complex was discovered in northern Guatemala.

Los Abueros, meaning “grandparents” in Spanish, is about 13 miles (21 kilometers) from Uaxactún and takes its name from two human-like rock statues found on a site believed to represent “ancestral couples.”

These figures, along with some sacred sanctuaries, suggest that it is an important place for Mayan rituals, said Luis Rodrigo Carrillo, vice minister of culture and sports in Guatemala, at a press conference to announce the findings.

“At the place here, one of the most important ritual centres in the region, it has a prominent sanctuary and will help us reassess our understanding of Mayan history,” the ministry said in a video announcing the discoveries.

East of Los Abueros is the Petanal, which features a 33m (108ft) high pyramid. At its peak there are two preserved rooms decorated with murals depicting various iconic representations, Carrillo said.

In Cambrayal, scientists, about three miles (4.8 kilometers) from Los Abueros, also identified “unique” water pipes within the palace, marking notable findings, the ministry said.

“These sites form previously unknown urban triangles that we had never existed before. These new archaeological discoveries constitute evidence of the greatness of Mayan culture.

The discovery was supported by Guatemala and Slovak archaeologists, along with international experts, as part of the Uaxactún Regional Archaeology Project (PARU) and by Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, officials said.

Although rare, new Mayan sites can sometimes be discovered thanks to new research and improvements in technology.

In April, archaeologists discovered a mysterious, 1,700-year-old altar containing human remains in the nearby ancient city of Tikal, about 23 kilometers (14 miles) south of Uakatokun. It was discovered in the devastated city of Maya, but archaeologists believe it was not decorated by the Mayans, but instead was the work of a trained artist hundreds of miles away in Teotihuacan.

Scientists in recent years have also used laser mapping technology to detect new sites, revealing the interconnectivity of Mayan cities, towns and villages.

The 10 best cars ever

0

There are many kinds of stupidity, especially when talking about cars. Automakers tend to receive suspicious design and engineering decisions, and sometimes they can push the envelope up where they shouldn’t. Buyers can employ excellent vehicles in one arena and use them almost exclusively in another arena where talent is completely wasted. Sometimes the technology isn’t invested enough or you’re not pushed too hard on something extremely comical. And there are vehicles built for a particular niche, and no matter how attractive they are, they are doomed to commercial failure. These are editor’s picks for the stupidest cars.

Tesla Cybertruck – Kristen Lee, Scott Evans

maims, Cyber Truck They have managed to gather more hatred than fans, and have taken into account the duel subreddits dedicated to the truck. Even from afar, looking at the vehicle is sufficient to catalyze an unbreakable perspective on whether the pickup is worthy of existence. the Impressive performance numbers and fresh technology It’s only important for those who can overcome that look. These body lines contain sharp edges close to lasers, close to you, torn off your clothes or skin, if you are unhappy enough to encounter the edges of almost every exterior panel (including doors without handles). a General lack of reliability and high cost It provides more ammunition to much of the Cyberbeast hatred, but as Scott Evans pointed out, “Cybertruck is there, but as Tesla activates the rest of the feature set, it’s a bit more ridiculous.”

Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet – Tom Roskin, Aaron Gold

Many car genre vendors are celebrated, but the Murano Convertible is not one of them. meanwhile Far from the first vehicle with SUV proportions featuring open topthis Murano variant stands out in the haughty hub cabrio, which has a lack of self-awareness. Cross Cabriolet Styling It has been ridden by Motrend staff for over 10 years.worse than that, it was hardly done to ensure that the newly built convertible was structurally sound. Even driving on mildly bumpy roads reveals a shocking lack of rigidity, damaging both the ride and handling. The utility that the variant had was also thrown out. This is because the rear door and virtually all the cargo space of the vehicle remained on the floor of the Mana room. After all, the most shocking thing about Murano is that something so badly thought can be lit up completely by green. As Aaron Gold pointed out, “I could feel the cowl swinging just by getting in the car.”

Mazda MX -30-Billy Lebok

The MX-30 wasn’t like that when the first waves of electric SUVs swept the automotive landscape and brought practical EV motoring into the mainstream. Only 100 miles of EPA ratings (and therefore less on highways Many (It’s less cold), the MX-30 has never been taken seriously as a practical electric vehicle. Even if nearly every other electric crossover blew past the 200-mile mark of the real world, the MX-30 couldn’t reach half in an optimistic EPA rating cycle. Priced and sold to equal a much better rival, MX-30 agile handling and fun interior Could not Please save from the early grave.

Toyota Mirai – Christian Seabo, Aaron Gold, Scott Evans

Hydrogen used to be the fuel of the future, but when the battery electric vehicle came to the scene and cut off the intermediary, that future became the past. Many Already sparse filling station network shutdownapproaching the obvious end of using H2 to fuel your car. The once-risky outlook also ends with the ironic name Mirai. Mirai, named after the Japanese “future” I went From ugly duck rings to beautiful sedans of two generationsinitially supported by Toyota, skeptical of Bevs. But all the cool factors and styling in the world couldn’t prevent hydrogen from falling into the pressure of more practical and cheaper ways of motion. As Aaron Gold said, “If you can’t go anywhere, Mirai is great.”

Honda CR-V FCEV-Christian Seabo

Similar negativity applies to CR-V FCEVs, but at least this everyday crossover can run the hydropunk showcase as a battery electric vehicle For EPA rated 29 miles. It adds to its practicality a bit, but only a little. (All range with full battery charge and full tanks of hydrogen is 270 miles.) Just as GM’s EV1 went before BEV technology went to practicality, the high cost of producing it means that it can only be used for leasing. In addition to the rather annoying sounds created by the hydrogen system, the CR-V FCEV does its best to look like a regular CR-V, but it cannot go outside Southern California (or perhaps very far within Southern California).

Aston Martin Signet – Scott Evans

“Talking about dilution of the brand,” Scott Evans said of the so-called Aston Martin. As one of the worst examples of badge engineering in recent memory, Cygnet claims the first and highest grades of many well-known British brands. But are they worth boasting? Under the unchanged bodywork, this Aston Toyota/Sion IQstunning for its price, but luxurious, refined, or…well, a small city car not known except for its small size. Built to nurture Aston Martin’s average fuel economy rating for government regulations, Cygnet received the same 97-horsepower economy-focused engine as SCION as a dramatic interior. $37,000 in 2010 may have served the purpose for the brand, but it really didn’t provide the Aston Martin experience exactly for the owner.

2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class – Alex Leanse

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a controversial option for the Votretrend staff list, but think about it. While completely lacking in the ORV parks and trails ubiquitous in luxury main streets and reality TV shows, G-Wagen’s dreadful off-roading capabilities are a complete mismatch in its use case, and seem to distort the military-inspired 4×4 with its gorgeous traps. That being said, in response to these accusations, Christian Seabo was saying to all the roof G-Wagen Haters, “Boooo, I’m back home.”

Chevrolet SSR-Eric Johnson

Stupid things don’t mean badly. Have you wanted a convertible truck that Americans couldn’t actually tow or carry as they expected pickup? no. Is SSR still great? yes. However, this very unique combination of cool elements and features of this real-life hot wheel car was not the most sluggish of sales. To be fair, SSR is currently gaining cult support decades after production ends. And yes, it was It was a bodied concept and lacked dynamics to match its appearance.but that doesn’t prevent it from being very, very, very cool. And it’s not stupid either.

Reliant Robin – Erik Johnson

Stupid isn’t a bad thing, but it certainly can mean bad. Robin is undeniably bad in every sense of the word, so it becomes undeniably stupid. For one, the three-legged layout leads to terminal instability, and is notorious for Robin rolling over (despite much of that fame rests on somewhat dishonest top gear stunts). A car with one narrow wheel in front is a stupid car, a complete stop. Robin was nothing more than a fight (before or bygone) to the struggle for quality control and reliability of the UK’s automotive industry at the time.

Chrysler TC by Maserati -Erik Johnson

Chrysler executives were convinced that the second-generation K-car, sold as a Maserati, was a good idea, but hindsight clearly proves that. What else is the space where the late 1980s Chrysler is building on the Maserati production line in Italy, besides a stupid idea? The astronomical costs and the blindly obvious and undeniable truth that the TC is a kind of poor American car built by a kind of poor Italian automaker made it a very stupid move. It’s next to it that TC has the charm of cult classics to modern car enthusiasts. TC was stupid.

The US proposes a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza

0

May 30 (Reuters) – Gaza’s US plan seen by Reuters on Friday proposes to announce the release of 60-day ceasefire and 28 Israeli hostages in the first week in exchange for the ruins of 1,236 Palestinian prisoners and 180 Dead Palestinians.

The document, which says the plan is guaranteed by US President Donald Trump and mediators Egypt and Qatar, includes sending humanitarian assistance to Gaza as soon as Hamas registers for the ceasefire agreement.

This aid will be delivered through the United Nations, Red Crescent and other agreed channels.

On Thursday, the White House said Israel agreed to a US ceasefire proposal.

According to Israeli media, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told hostage families held in Gaza that Israel has accepted the deal presented by President Trump’s Middle Eastern envoy Steve Witkov.

Hamas, a Palestinian extremist group, told Reuters it was reviewing its plans and would respond on Friday or Saturday.

The US plan stipulates that Hamas will release 30 of the remaining 58 Israeli hostages after a permanent ceasefire is in place. Israel will also cease all military operations in Gaza as soon as the truce comes into effect, it indicates.

The Israeli army will also redeploy its troops in stages.

The deep differences between Hamas and Israel hampered previous attempts to recover from the ceasefire that broke down in March.

Israel claims that Hamas will be completely disarmed, dismantled as a force of military and governance, and will return all 58 hostages still held in Gaza before they agree to end the war.

Hamas rejects the request to abandon its weapons, saying that Israel must pull its troops from Gaza and commit to ending the war.

Israel saw Israel killed about 1,200 people and took 251 Israelis hostages in Gaza, Israel launched its campaign in Gaza on October 7, 2023 in response to the Hamas attack in the south.

The subsequent Israeli military campaign killed more than 54,000 Palestinians, Gaza health officials said, leaving the enclave in abandoned.

Mounting pressure

Israel is increasing international pressure, and many European countries are usually bound by criticizing the open demand for ending wars and great relief efforts.

Witkoff told reporters Wednesday that Washington is approaching both sides of the conflict “send a new term sheet” about the ceasefire.

“I have very good feelings about reaching a long-term resolution, a temporary ceasefire, a long-term resolution, a peaceful resolution, a peaceful resolution,” Witkov said at the time.

According to the plan, the 60-day ceasefire may be extended if negotiations for a permanent ceasefire do not end within the set period.

Hamas official Sami Abu Zuri said on Thursday that the terms of the proposal reiterate Israeli position and do not include a commitment to end the war, withdrawing Israeli forces or granting aid as Hamas requested.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a US-backed and Israel-backed private group, expanded its aid distribution to Gaza’s third site on Thursday.

The group, which has been criticized as inadequate and flawed by the United Nations and other aid groups, launched its operations in Gaza this week. There, the UN said 2 million people were at risk of hunger after Israel’s 11-week lockdown entered the enclave.

The turbulent scene on Tuesday ruined the launch as thousands of Palestinians rushed to distribution points and forced private security contractors to retreat.

The chaotic start of the operation puts international pressure on Israel to stop the fight in Gaza and stop it. GHF has served around 1.8 million meals so far, and plans to open more sites in the coming weeks.

Are you shopping after Trump Media stocks have dropped by more than 50% from the height of 52 weeks?

0

play

Perhaps there is no stock performance that affects President Donald Trump’s actions as much as Trump Media Technology Group (NASDAQ: DJT). The Trump administration’s recent tariff policies have affected the entire stock market, but Trump’s media specifically states that its success depends in part on President Trump’s popularity.

This is rolling out at Trump Media’s stock price, expanding to a 52-week peak of $54.68 just days before the presidential election. However, economic uncertainty, supported by inflation and further affected by dynamic tariff conditions, has sunk the company’s stocks. At the time of writing, its stock price is less than half of the stock price before it won the election for Donald J. Trump.

Does this bring Trump’s media share to the territory of purchase? Or is there a reason to avoid stocks? Find out more about your company.

Trump Media’s Business Performance

Trump Media is entirely dependent on revenue from digital advertising executions on social media platform Truth Social. The company also provided consumers with Truth+, a streaming video product, and recently announced a financial offering called Truth.fi. But by the end of the first quarter there was no truth+, no truth or true.

Trump Media’s sole source of sales, Truth Social, won $821,200 in first quarter revenue, up 7% from the previous year. This is a promising start to 2025, since 2024 ended in 2024 and sales fell 12% year-on-year to $3.6 million.

Additionally, Trump Media boasts a strong balance sheet. Total assets were $918.9 million, while total liabilities at the end of the first quarter were $27.2 million. The company is collecting a $759 million war chest in first quarter cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments. But that’s where the strengths of the Trump media end.

Areas of concern for Trump media

Investing in Trump media poses several traits of risk. Perhaps the biggest thing is that 93% of revenue comes from a single customer. If that client decides to leave, Trump Media’s revenues will collapse.

The company also stands in a volatile financial setting. Trump Media is not profitable, with a net loss in the first quarter of $31.7 million. This is because the operating costs totaled $40 million in the first quarter.

But the bigger problem is the slippery revenue generated from the Trump media offering. Since Truth Social’s sales do not cover costs, it is important that the company’s new Truth+ and Truth.fi products provide immediate revenue. Another concern is that Trump Media pointed out in its first quarter revenue report that there was a “significant debilitating in internal control over financial reporting” and that there was a shortage of “accounting personnel with the necessary experience in the Securities and Exchange Commission reporting rules.”

This means that there may be errors in its financial statements, which can lead to misrepresentation of Trump Media’s finances, depending on the scope of these errors. The company is working to address this issue, but at this point the integrity of its revenue report is questionable.

Make decisions about Trump’s media stocks

Trump’s media is in a volatile state given the high cost of running their business compared to the smallest sales that are invading. But its emerging products can bring the revenue Trump Media desperately needs, and its excellent balance sheet allows these products to maintain the company while building revenue streams.

So is the company’s substantial stock price from its 52-week high below its decision to buy the stock? To answer this question, you need to assess whether the stock valuation is reasonable.

This can be measured by the ratio of price to sale (P/S). This gives you an idea of how much money your company will pay for each revenue it earns over the course of 12 months. This metric is commonly used to assess stocks in unprofitable businesses such as Trump Media.

DJT PS Ratio Chart

Data by ycharts. PS ratio = price to sales ratio.

MLK III and his wife pursue unity in Trump’s America

0

play

When news broke that Donald Trump was the target of an attempted assassination at a campaign rally last summer, Martin Luther King Jr.’s son was one of the voices that condemned the violence.

“Political violence has no place in our society and our country,” Martin Luther King III wrote in X’s post. “It undermines the foundations of our democracy.”

The second child of the country’s most prominent civil rights icons knows too well the cost of political violence. When he was 10, his father was murdered on a Tennessee balcony and became part of a group of leaders, activists and Democratic politicians who were assassinated in the 1960s.

“If President Kennedy, Medgar Evers and Malcolm X, Dad and Robert Kennedy lived, we would be on a completely different track,” King said. “These were all people who were cut back at such a critical time, not just in our country, but in terms of where they were headed.”

Last July, Trump was injured when an assassin bullet grazes his ears. He won the election and resumed his presidency.

He shared the 2025 inauguration day with Martin Luther King Jr. His life and legacy is celebrated every January on a federal public holiday.

However, the king says there is a large bay between his father and the president.

In an interview with USA Today, he lamented the country’s current trajectory.

“In general, in our country there is a desire to care for good, righteousness, our fellow people,” King said. “We’re taking part in a course that appears to be temporarily out of the quilter. At some point, we need to make course revisions.”

“What can each of us do?”

Martin Luther King Jr. often spoke about creating “The Beloved Community,” a society where “men can live together without fear,” as he wrote in his 1966 essay.

Today, his 67-year-old son says he will build the community as a key and continuous effort.

He has a dedicated partner to Earndrea Waters King, the wife of his wife, president of the Drum Major Institute, a nonprofit founded by Martin Luther King Jr. in 1961.

The pair launched last year’s Realize The Dream initiative, a national movement aimed at encouraging 100 million hours of work by January 2029. King and Water’s King, along with the brothers Mark and Craig Kielberger, released a book entitled “What Is My Legacy?” And the accompanying podcast called “My Heritage.”

The Kings participated in a video interview with USA Today on May 19th. This was a follow-up to a conversation with a 2024 publication that led to a controversial presidential election.

In August, Waters King told USA Today that he felt the country was “terribly divided.” Four months after Trump’s second term, she said she still is.

“When you think about most frightened immigrants, in some cases, for kids to go to school. Schools, churches, hospitals – they should all be safe places and times,” Waters King said. “Whenever we start someone else and remove their humanity, we go down slippery slopes.”

In the conflict, King said he would look at an example set by his father, who has faced threats to his life over the years of his political activities.

In 1958, in a book signed in New York City, Martin Luther King Jr. was stabbed by Isola Curry, a woman who was later diagnosed with schizophrenia.

“After he was stabbed, King spoke about his father.

“That’s why,” he added. “I think it’s what I’m saying. I’m sure a lot of people are worried about the possibility of political violence. But what should we do not do to prevent political violence from appearing and happening?”

In the public’s eyes

A few days after his new term, President Trump signed an executive order seeking government files related to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and King Jr., and was released “without delay.”

The King Family opposed the release, saying they wanted an opportunity to review the files before they were released.

The descendants of the civil rights icon refused to speak to concerns about the file in an interview, including this recent sit-in with USA Today. They say it is a deeply personal subject.

When asked how he felt about the spotlight of his life as a result of his father’s excellence, King told USA Today, “It’s my life. This is what I know.”

“It’s certainly always easier to navigate life without realizing it,” he continued. “But I am grateful for the opportunity to nurture this incredible legacy we have, and perhaps I am grateful and grateful that the daughter we want to engage in is engaged.”

King and Water’s King have a 17-year-old daughter, Yolanda Renee King, 17, named after King’s late sister.

Legacy is a sloop line of King’s work, and we’ll be looking at it for the next four years and even generations. In considering how they hope to be remembered, both said they are steadily building on the foundation set by King’s mother and father.

“We all have a legacy. We all have a voice,” Waters King said. “It’s literally about what we do and how we build our lives every day.”

California dad fired guns at teens who turned his home into eggs: Report

play

Local reports say his Northern California father is accused of shooting him in a car occupied by three teenage boys who were throwing eggs and anointing his home.

The alleged incident occurred in San Mateo, California on the morning of May 25th, authorities said. According to the San Mateo Police Department, officials investigated “fires on occupied vehicles due to suspected bullying and harassment.”

“In the end, the person was arrested for multiple violations,” the San Mateo Police Department said in a statement on May 28th.

Craig Stephen Miseli, 54, was charged with three counts of assault with firearms with additional firearm strengthening, one count of shootings in an occupied vehicle, one count of illegal assault weapons and one count of possession of assault weapons, online court records show. He pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arrest on May 27th.

Prosecutors accused Miceli of firing May 25th in an SUV carrying three boys, ages 16 and 17, Mercury News and Kron-TV reported. Miseli told officers that the teenage pranks made him angry and her daughter was a victim of bullying in high school, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

Miceli was ordered not to contact the three teenagers, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 9, according to online court records. After his arrest, Mikeli remained in custody on $25,000 bail, but records show he posted bail on May 29th.

The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to a May 29 request for comment on USA Today. The San Mateo Police Department declined to comment further on the case, suing the treatment of the district attorney’s office.

San Mateo is a wealthy city in Northern California and is part of the metropolitan area of the San Francisco Gulf region. The city is about 20 miles south of San Francisco.

Report: Teens were targeting classmates for mischief

The three boys drove around San Mateo last weekend, “Trapping Classmates Pranks from Hillsdale High School,” the District Attorney’s Office told Mercury News and Cron TV. In one instance, the prosecutor said the teenager traveled to Miseli’s house on May 23 and spread the oil on his porch.

According to Mercury News and Kron-TV, the boys returned shortly after midnight on May 25th and threw eggs into the residence. When the teenager left his home, Miseli fired two shots in the car with a handgun, prosecutors alleged.

Mercury News and Kron-TV saw one of the bullets attack the passenger side of the vehicle, hitting the quarter panel. The corresponding officer stopped the vehicle and Micheli told police “his daughter was a victim of constant bullying in high school and had to spend time cleaning the oil from the pouch.”

Miceli also told officials he was trying to shoot the vehicle’s tires and throw the handgun into a local pond, according to Mercury News and Kron-TV. Police later served as a search warrant at Miseli’s home, finding illegal automatic rifles and various ammunition.

“It’s a crime reaction. You can’t take out a firearm and point it to a human and a car with a fire,” San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaff said in an interview with ABC7 News.

Police urged people experiencing bullying to contact authorities “providing all the resources available to prevent another potentially tragic event from occurring.”

Latest incidents involving mischief being wrong

The San Mateo shooting is the latest incident in the US where mischief has become violent and in some cases fatal.

A Virginia teenager was allegedly shot and killed by a homeowner earlier this month while filming video of Tiktok’s pranks with a friend, according to a search warrant obtained by authorities and USA Today. A teenage friend told authorities he was recording a video of him playing a “Ding Dong Ditch” prank when he was shot on May 3rd.

The homeowner was identified as Tyler Chase Butler, 27, who was arrested May 6th and charged with several crimes, including second-degree murder.

In May 2024, an 18-year-old was shot dead in the back, paralyzed after participating in the “senior assassin” prank trends in Kansas. The teen was shot, arrested, and charged with attempted murder by another teenager’s father.

A former Delaware State Police officer was accused of “brutally beating” the trooper and trooper in August 2023 of “brutally beating” the 15-year-old who played the “Ding Dong Ditch” prank, authorities said. Dempsey R. Walters was sentenced to one year in October 2024, reported the Delaware News Journal, part of the USA Today Network.

Then in July 2023, a Southern California man was sentenced to life in prison when he rammed into a vehicle carrying a group of teenagers who had pranked him with a doorbell in 2020.

Shangri-La Dialogue: China boils Asia’s biggest defense forum as tensions with us

0

Singapore
CNN
–

China will not send the Minister of Defense to this year’s Shangri-La dialogue, avoiding the opportunity for high-level meetings between us and our Asian counterparts as a tension with Washington.

China announced Thursday that it will be represented instead by the delegation of the People’s Liberation Army National Defense University, marking the first high-level delegation from Beijing in five years to miss Asia’s biggest defense and security forum.

The United States will be represented at the event by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses. The event often offers an opportunity for the bystanders of unusual in-person meetings between top US and Chinese generals and defense officials.

Last year, then-US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin met with Defence Minister Dong Jun, who was on the sidelines of the event, and the two pledged to continue the US-China dialogue amid simmering military tensions over Taiwan-China attacks in the South China Sea.

Beijing’s decision not to send Don this year raises doubts whether there will be a meeting between the US and China at a time when tensions between the two have risen.

China has opposed America’s efforts to strengthen its alliance and defence stance in Asia in recent years, but economic frictions rose to historic levels earlier this year after President Donald Trump’s tariff levies on China caused The-TAT between two countries, which have risen more than 100% on each other’s goods.

The two sides announced a temporary tariff ceasefire earlier this month, but tensions erupted this week. On Wednesday, two days before the forum’s opening, the US aimed to hit a shock double punch targeting software to Chinese tech companies, learning visas granted to Chinese students, putting a fragile trade war between Washington and Beijing at risk.

At a press conference for China’s Ministry of Defense on Thursday, a spokesman raised questions as to why Beijing did not send a minister of defense to the Singapore Forum.

China was “open to communication at all levels between the two,” a spokesman for the ministry said when asked about potential bystanders to meet with the US delegation.

The downgrade of China’s Shangri-La delegation showed Beijing was not satisfied with Washington, US defense officials told CNN on Thursday.

“They’re being troked by us,” the official said.

Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun will attend a meeting at the Party Central Committee Bureau in Hanoi, Vietnam on April 14th.

“It signalled that they are particularly concerned about the level of engagement with the US in order to send a message that everything is not entirely normal within that range, and there may be some other underlying reasons for mere uncertainty about what Shangri-La intends to achieve,” the official said.

Traditionally, China has had few friends at Shangri-La. There, speakers face real-time, unscripted questions from journalists and academics attending the conference.

“Beijing always wants to control the story and discourse, and Shangri-La doesn’t make that possible,” said Drew Thompson, a senior fellow at S. Rajaratnam International Studies (RSIS) in Singapore.

Last year, Defense Minister Don faced tough questions after Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. condemned illegal, forced and aggressive behavior in the South China Sea with apparent hints at China.

Chinese military has also been in the spotlight in recent years as it has had more than dozens of high rank numbers in Chinese defense facilities since 2023, and its top rank has been caught up in the spotlight due to drastic corruption purges.

Analysts said the lack of a high-level Chinese delegation at the defence conference may indicate that Beijing emphasizes the economy and trade on military relations in diplomacy at this time.

“Although security engagement, such as SLD (Shangri-la Dialogue), is important in the broader geopolitics schemes, at this point, it appears that regional governments are probably even more concerned about the impact of tariffs on the economy.”

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses will leave after a bilateral meeting on the sidelines at the IISS Shangri-la Dialogue Security Summit held in Singapore on Friday.

Ahead of the weekend meeting, much attention has been focused on how the growing regionally-wide US-led alliance during the Biden administration will be maintained under Trump’s second term.

There was a wide consensus among analysts that unlike the chaos that Trump caused in Europe, there was a threat to pull back from NATO and abandon Ukraine in the fight against Russian invasion.

Hegses’ first trip to Asia as defense secretary began in the Philippines – at the forefront of China’s increasingly aggressive stance in Asia – he said the US will work with allies to “reestablish deterrence” to counter the “China attack.”

He had a similar message on Friday during early morning training with the crew on a US Navy ship in Singapore.

“We signal our allies and partners. Hey, here is the United States, here in India-Pacific. We’re not going anywhere. We’re here to stop the enemy who wants harm from us.” The analyst said US-led military exercises, particularly those involving major allies, Australia, the Philippines and South Korea, were continued or strengthened in 2025.

A spokesperson for the US Pacific Command told CNN there are 120 bilateral or multilateral exercises involving US forces in the Indo-Pacific this year.

However, while increasing US involvement is welcomed by those taking part in such exercises, Washington must be careful not to exacerbate China.

“Deepening security engagement in the US is welcome, but not so much on the strategic aspects that create tension,” he said.

On Thursday, senior spokesman for China’s Ministry of Defense Colonel Zhang Xiaogang said China “puts military relations very much” but warned Washington against “stimulating a powerful enemy of its own, intentional or intentional.”

“That imagination is rational and not extremely dangerous,” Chan said.

Thompson, a researcher at RSIS, said China’s extra stimulants in this year’s dialogue are large European conditions, including French President Emmanuel Macron, who will give a keynote speech on Friday night.

“China’s support for Russia (war in Ukraine) had a major impact on relations with Europe, which is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the evidence of China’s support for Russian war machinery, and is highly likely to beat the public tongue.

“This can be a troubling environment for high-level PLA executives looking to manage and improve relations in Asia. If you can’t win, don’t take part.”

Delinquency on student loans has risen. What does that mean for the economy?

0

play

After roughly five years of off, student loan borrowers are watching their credit scores poke once more if they are late in paying. Economists say it may be bad news for borrowers and the economy as a whole.

A recent report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York found that student loan delinquency rates skyrocketed from under 1% in the fourth quarter of 2024 to nearly 8% in the first quarter of this year. This will send some credit scores to the freefall, making it even more difficult for borrowers to secure affordable loans or withdraw major purchases.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York said credit scores for more than 2.2 million new arrears student loan borrowers had plummeted over 100 points. There were scores of over 1 million, with scores dropping at least 150 points.

“We were able to see millions of borrowers potentially locked out of the traditional mortgage market. They were able to double the cost of car loans. Finding rental homes has become more difficult,” said Aissa Canchola Banes, policy director for the Student Borrower Protection Centre, an advocacy group focusing on student loan debt. “Not only the immediate harm, but also the long term harm is massive.”

Why is student loan delinquency on increasing?

The federal government’s pandemic-era student loan payment suspension was lifted in September 2023, but payments at least 90 days in advance could be reported to the Credit Bureau until fall of 2024. These delinquents began appearing in credit reports in 2025.

According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, as of the first quarter, one in four student loan borrowers needed to make payments were behind on the loan.

Much of that surge could be driven by disruptions over rebooting loan payments, according to Beth Akers, a senior fellow focusing on the economics of higher education at the conservative think tank, the American Enterprise Institute.

The suspension that began under President Donald Trump’s first administration has been extended multiple times under former President Joe Biden. Meanwhile, online rumors claimed that all student loans were cancelled forever under Biden. Biden tried to allow $400 billion worth of student debt, but the plan was eventually rescinded by the Supreme Court.

“I think for a long time, borrowers thought their loans had been cancelled, or they wouldn’t have to pay them back, and I don’t blame anyone who believes that,” Akers said. “We were really confused from the borrowers.”

Other borrowers may not be financially prepared to pay off their loans, especially after they drop out of their habits on monthly payments.

“The economy is very different from before Covid,” said Betsy Mayott, president of the Student Loan Advisor Institute, a nonprofit based in Plymouth, Massachusetts. “Things like housing, eggs and lettuce are much more expensive than they did before Covid. So payments that could have been affordable in 2020 may not be affordable now.”

A paper co-authored by Michael Dinerstein, an associate professor of economics at Duke University, North Carolina, found that student loan suspensions allow borrowers to undertake other forms of debt, including mortgages, credit card loans, and car loans. Now these borrowers are also on hook for student loan payments that can cost hundreds, if not thousands, of each month.

Another possible factor? This year’s surge could be linked to an influx of late payments that have been spread out for years without a pause, according to Christine Bragg, a leading research associate in the work, education and labor sector at the Urban Institute, a Washington, DC-based think tank.

“About one million people enter the default per average year,” Blagg said. “And what we had is that nearly five years of students have not reached that default period. So we can think of this as a nearly accumulation of people who would have been defaulting at that point at this point.”

In the first quarter of 2025, approximately 5.6 million borrowers were considered new delinquent. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York in March estimated that more than 9 million student loan borrowers would have significantly reduced credit scores by the end of June.

What does this mean for borrowers?

Leece Wallace, 34, of Oakland, California, saw her credit scores plummet from over 700 people this year after halting student loan payments.

Wallace, a graduate of California College of the Arts, left school in 2023 with student debt worth around $50,000. Monthly payments were nearly $500 a month, but Wallace said it was not acceptable for wages for Bay Area studio artists.

Wallace said last year he stopped paying his loan to spend money on his graduate school application after being hit with the impression that his loan would be automatically postponed. He realized that it was not true when his application for student housing at the University of Nevada’s University of Las Vegas was rejected due to his low credit score.

The credit score threw a wrench at Wallace’s plan to move to graduate school. He has to get a Cosiner for his home and is worried that he can afford a car after years of travelling on public transport in California.

“What vehicle can I get with a credit score of 488?” he asked. “To be honest, it’s going to be really difficult.”

Akers believes it’s fair to taxpayers to resume student loan payments, but said there’s a “severe trickle-down impact” when credit scores hit, especially as baseline interest rates are already high.

“People can quickly think about their ability to fund the purchase of new homes at affordable interest rates,” she said. “But employers also sometimes look at your credit score. When you rent a house, they look at your credit score.”

Borrowers can find themselves in more hot water as they continue to miss payments. After 270 days, the government can seize wages, tax returns, or Social Security benefits. The Federal Office of Student Aid will send a notification about wage decorations this summer.

What does this mean for the economy?

Economists warn of rebooted payments and sinking credit scores could bring another hit to the economy, which already shows signs of slowing this year.

“It’s another potential drag,” Bragg said. “We don’t have a good sense of how big it is compared to everything else that’s going on at the moment, but whenever there is dollars spent on loans it’s dollars that aren’t being put into the economy or saved for big purchases.”

Morgan Stanley Economists estimates that increased loan payments could potentially reduce by up to 0.15% points as payments increase this year by up to 0.15% points. A report from May 5 said that GDP is “relatively small,” but describes this as “another headwind” for consumers.

Tips for borrowers

Canchola Bañez, a student borrower protection center, shared advice to borrowers who are in arrears on their loans.

  • Borrowers should consider repayment options at dustentaid.gov. Canchola Bañez said an income-driven repayment plan is likely the best option. This shift may take some time. According to education department figures, there is a backlog of around 2 million federal student loan borrowers demanding income-driven repayment plans. The borrower may be tolerant while the application is being processed. This means you don’t have to pay your loan while waiting for approval on a more affordable payment plan.

If the borrower is more than 270 days behind on the loan, the education department will lay out three options to get out of default.

  • Pay off the loan completely (not practical for most borrowers).
  • Loan Rehabilitation: Borrowers can make nine affordable monthly payments within 20 days of the set date by contacting the loan owner and agreeing to the written consent.
  • Loan integration: The borrower agrees to repay a new “direct integration loan” under an income-driven repayment plan or make three full, consecutive, voluntary monthly payments on the default loan before consolidation. This option is faster, but the unpaid interest is added to the principal balance, allowing borrowers to pay more overall.

A dangerous Canadian fire is expected to push heavy smoke up into the US

0

Flames in Manitoba and Saskatchewan have evacuated thousands. Smoke from the fire is expected to drift through the US all weekend.

play

As many as 17,000 people in Canada have been evacuated as lively wildfires burn hundreds of thousands of acres across the country, officials threaten to waft heavy smoke in the northern United States.

The country’s Department of Natural Resources has seen heat, wind and dry air flare up in Canada, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. US residents are expected to face a decline in air quality due to the fire on May 30th.

“This is a very serious situation,” Saskatchewan Prime Minister Scott Mo said at a press conference on May 29.

According to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Truck Centre, the active flame burned 696,000 acres in Saskatchewan and 173,000 acres in Manitoba. A total of about 1.5 million acres have been burning in two states so far this year, according to the Fire Center.

Moe said he hopes the fire will worsen up to a two- or three-day rain event.

According to Firesmoke Canada, a team of forecasters at the University of British Columbia, it will fall heavily into Midwest states, including Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan, and is expected to arrive in Carolina nationwide by May 31st.

Canadian authorities have called on the military to support the “pure scale” of evacuation, Manitoba Prime Minister Wab Kinueu said at a press conference.

“We’re talking about time rather than days to travel this amount of people,” Kinow said, adding that it is the biggest evacuation “in most people’s living memories.”

Two states have declared a state of emergency. The flames also extend to Ontario, where 130,000 acres are burning.

Canadian wildfires again

Smoke floating over the United States from Canada’s flames comes after a 2023 Canadian nightmare wildfire encountered American cities in the northeast, midwest and plains.

More than 6,000 acres of flames have burned over 37 million acres, leaving areas larger than the UK, leaving them larger than the UK.

The 2025 “International Report” of the American Lung Association found that more Americans had poor air quality due to the Canadian fire, despite the decline in other pollution measures. The report was based on data up to 2023.

As of May 29, 1,500 flames had burned 1.8 million acres across Canada.

What to expect in the US

Frozen from the flames is expected to drift through much of the United States, starting in the Midwest, according to a Firesmoke Canada forecaster.

Minnesota began to feel the effects of the flames on May 29, according to the state’s Pollution Control Agency. The Upper Wisconsin and Upper Peninsula in Michigan were expected to suffer air quality by evening.

Smoke is expected to hit Ohio Valley and Carolina by early Saturday on May 30th.

Minnesota officials warned of unhealthy levels of exposure to microparticles from wildfires. Symptoms include everything from shortness of breath to heart attacks and strokes.

Inter Milan is carrying Italian football as the club seeks its first Champions League title in 15 years

0

CNN
–

It’s been 15 years since the Italian club last lifted the Champions League trophy. soccer– Mad Country.

Seeing Italian teams win the most coveted awards in European club soccer is postponed, especially given the country’s history and pedigree in sports. That could change this weekend when Inter Milan faces Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in Munich on Saturday – the second Champions League final in three years Nerazzurri.

Inter’s fourth European title may be a flickering reminder of the golden age of Italian club soccer in the 1990s. Today’s teams don’t boast almost the same number of global superstars, but following European titles with fewer Europa League and Conference Leagues as Atalanta and Rome, respectively, Inter’s Champions League success is likely a glimpse into the Italian Renaissance.

“Italian football has been a bit of a sense of its record in European competition, up until recently,” TNT sports commentator Adam Summerton, who follows Italy’s Serie A, told CNN Sports.

“I think it’s been almost embarrassing for a league of Italy’s size and position. …I’ve speculated that in recent years it has taken that pride, in order to truly recover it, to truly recover it.

Intel is in the silverware cusp this season on three, and undoubtedly four occasions. He was close to winning the Serie A title last weekend, but he scored one point behind champion Napoli in the final match. That led manager Simone Inzagi to admit that “I and the players had a lot of pain” earlier this week, but Saturday’s final offers a chance to ease that pain.

Captain Lautaro Martinez returned to fitness ahead of the Champions League final.

And one of the positives for Inter is that Inzagi and many of his players have been in this position before. The current team is not fundamentally different from the team that narrowly lost to Manchester City in the 2023 final.

This Inter team is full of experienced campaigners. Defenders Francesco Aserbi and Matteo Dalmian and midfielder Henrik Mkhitaryan. According to TransferMarkt, it is the highest average age of Italy in this past season at 29.1, and is hungry for silverware after a series of almost mistakes. Not only did they fail to win the league title, but Inter lost to bitter rival AC Milan in the Italian Super Cup in January and again lost to Milan in the Italian Cup semi-finals in April.

But the overall picture for Nerazzurri It’s one of the successes under Inzagi. The 49-year-old, who arrived at the club in 2021, has already won Scudetto, Italian Cup and three Italian Super Cups while in charge. Reaching the two finals of the Champions League is also an impressive feat, especially given the financial firepower of some of the top European clubs, including Real Madrid, Manchester City and, in fact, PSG.

“This isn’t just about coaches who are flashing lights in the pot, or people who are standing up,” Summerton says. “People may not agree, but in my view, he is a current established elite level coach and I think he will emphasize that winning the Champions League is that validation, recognition and this is a man who needs to be taken seriously.”

Inzagi, a former striker who spent most of his career with Lazio, has signed with Inter until 2026. He was reportedly offered over $23 million (20 million euros) per season to take charge of Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, but was reluctant to talk about his future when asked this week.

“When I was in Lazio and Inter, it’s the same every year,” Inzagi said. “Fortunately, there are requests from Italy and from Saudi Arabia from overseas.

“But I think it’s crazy now to think about it. Like the president of the club said, the people I have great relationships are the ones we sit and talk the day after the game.

Inzagi will oversee the training session on Monday.

Naturally, the Champions League trophies will significantly improve the resumes of Inzaghi management.

After acknowledging one goal in the group stage this season, Inter saw Barcelona in the knockout stage, Feynord, Bayern Munich and in sensational ways.

The breathtaking mad cap victory in the semi-finals against Barça – finally finishing with a tally of 7-6 after the winner of Aserbi’s stop time equalizer and David Fratesi’s extended player – is remembered as one of the great nights in the club’s history.

Importantly, Inter under Inzaghi has shown that it has the tools and tactics to compete with the best teams in Europe.

“They have this incredible ability. “They play within the formation where Inzagi is pretty married to 3-5-2, but within that formation there is so much flexibility in the way they play.

“I think Inter is a very difficult aspect for PSG to play in the finals. Because of the versatility they have, the spins they play together. They’re a very difficult team to play against.”

Advances the final, Inter was supported by the return of Captain Lautaro Martinez. Lautaro Martinez has nine goals in 13 games representing one of the best returns in the Champions League this season.

Martínez hopes to add Champions League medals to the already impressive trophies in his career, including the World Cup and two Copa América titles with Argentina, and two league titles with Inter.

“It’s going to be incredible to experience another final on this scale in this competition,” he told UEFA this week.

It will be a dream for Interfans who have been waiting 15 years to experience the glory of the Champions League once more. Currently, only one team is in the way of the Trophy’s long-awaited return to Italy.

Bernard Kerrick, the top New York police officer, died of 69 on 9/11.

0

Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerrick “he passed away at the age of 69 after a personal battle with illness,” FBI director Kash Patel announced on May 29.

Kerrick was a top New York City police officer following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

“After more than 40 years of working in law enforcement and national security, he devoted his life to protecting Americans,” Patel wrote in X.

The NYPD reflected Patel’s sentiment in a statement posted to X, saying, “For nearly 20 years, Kerik has served New Yorkers in the NYPD, protecting it, including helping to rebuild the city in the aftermath of September 11th.”

Kerrick was later appointed by President George W. Bush and headed the Department of Homeland Security in the early stages of the US war of terrorism.

“Berney Kerrick understands his obligation to come to America on September 11th. The determination he felt in the morning would lead him every day with his work, he said in 2004.

The nomination was short-lived as Kerik retreated a few days later. His employment of undocumented immigrants as a nanny was later described as the reason for his withdrawal.

Kerrick spent three years in federal prison after pleading guilty in 2009 to eight felony charges, including tax fraud. His case centered on claims that construction companies seeking city licensing for home renovations are seeking city licensing. He was later forgiven by President Donald Trump in 2020.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy W. Giuliani posted on X.

NEW YORK — The New York Knicks season continues at least one game after a 111-94 victory over the Indiana Pacers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night.

The Knicks, who won their first home victory in the series, returned to Indianapolis on Saturday night, forced a game 7 in the Eastern Conference Finals, becoming the 14th team in NBA history, returning from a 3-1 Best Seven Series deficit.

New York started off aggressively from the start, with All-NBA performers Jalen Branson and Karl Anthony Towns setting the tone, especially on the defensive side. Indiana was the first team in the series to score under 100 points in the game, with losses earning a six-game road playoff victory.

The winners and losers of Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Indiana Pacers and the New York Knicks are:

Game 5 Summary, Highlights: Knicks stops elimination in the yard

winner

Jalen Branson

Clutch Player of the Year concluded with a four-point play from the Knicks, who scored 16 points in the third quarter and led by 22 points. Branson hit four three-pointers and scored 32 points, also five rebounds and five assists, using various moves to get into the paint and earned an easy bucket.

The town of Karl Anthony

The town, who played with his wounded left knee, bullied the road to paint with 24 points (17 in the first half) as New York overtook Indiana with paint 60-34. The town was big in the second quarter after Branson went scoreless – 12 points with 12 points as the Knicks extended their lead. Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart each scored 12 points, while OG Anunoby scored 11 in a balanced scoring effort.

Knicks lockdown defense

New York gave up 43 points to Indiana in the first quarter of Game 4. This is because the Pacers scored more than 130 points for the second time in the series. On Thursday, Indiana was held at 45 in the first half.

Both teams were horrible from the three-point line. Indiana shot 10-30 (33.3%) and the Knicks only hit eight of 29 attempts (27.6%), but New York State made up for it by controlling the paint and Indiana’s fast-paced attacks not leaving the starting block.

loser

Pacers Starter

Pascal Siakam was the only Indiana starter to score in double figures with 15 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Pacers (Siakam, Aaron Nesmith, Myles Turner, Andrew Nembhard and Tyrese Haliburton) who started five scored 37 of their team’s 94 points as Indiana shot 40.5% off the field. Hailing 32 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds in Game 4, Halliburton only had eight points (with seven shots) in 32 minutes, as he was defended by Mikal Bridges in most contests.

“It’s his combination that sometimes missed some shots he normally makes. We thought our guys were tied up together and he was trying to get him to work for everything,” Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said of Halliburton. That’s what you have to do. You have to fight to win all ownership. ”

Halliburton received either goals or support in Game 5 with 24% of the Pacers’ 94 points. In the first four games of the series, he scored or supported on 41% of the team’s points.

One bright spot was Pacers Reserve Bennedict Mathurin. He continued to produce, scoring 20 points in just 12 minutes in Game 4 before scoring a team high 23 points in 25 minutes.

May Christmas

In Game 4, the Knicks were 17 turnovers to hit the butterfly on the ball, with Indiana giving 20 points and 22 speeds. Live ball turnovers are Achilles heels for both teams in the series, highlighting the importance of not throwing the ball away from coaches, Thibodeau and Indiana’s Rick Carlisle.

Game 5 was a complete reversal with Pacer in the atmosphere, spinning the ball over 19 times and scoring 20 points.

“We lost the rebound battle, we lost the sales battle. We didn’t shoot well,” Carlisle said. “They had a lot to do with it, so give them credit.

Teen Death Sparks Calls to ban Viral Head-on Tackle Games inspired by American Football’s biggest hit

0

CNN
–

Inspired by the biggest and most difficult full contact hits in American football and rugby, the burgeoning new sports trends have proven deadly and are now sought to be banned.

Run straight games branded by leagues organized as “the world’s most intense, new conflict sports.” Anyone who rules will win.

Tens of thousands of dollars were offered as prize money for organized events in New Zealand and Australia, and the game had fatal consequences and became a social media trend as teens tried it out at home.

Ryan Sattertwaite passed away in a hospital Monday after a backyard challenge tragically wrong in the small city of Palmerston North. New Zealand police said the 19-year-old was seriously injured.

His uncle Pete Satterthwaite told CNN affiliate RNZ that Ryan was attending a friend’s birthday party on Saturday and decided to play a round of a very popular game in New Zealand.

When Pete Sattertwaite saw local news reports about doing it, he thought the game was a “silly idea” and instinctively knew “someone would be seriously injured.”

He didn’t expect it to be his own nephew.

“The ultimate goal is to injure the other person and run through his peak. You guide with your shoulders and your head,” he said. “Whether they have medical staff on-site and everyone is taking the test, that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.”

New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has urged people not to participate in the tackle game and calls it “what to do.”

“You are hearing advice from the police, medical fraternity, the government, and from the principal.

“For adults who are involved in, influenced, and led this on social media, I think you need to stop.

New Zealand’s Minister of Sports Mark Mitchell said on Friday he sought advice on what the government could take on what it labelled as “unregulated activities pose a significant level of risk,” New Zealand’s Minister of Sports Mark Mitchell said on Friday he sought advice on Friday.

The Run it Straight game combines elements of American football and rugby. This is two sports that we work on in common but have clear rules to protect players.

Football players wear helmets and thick padding to withstand shocking tackles all over their bodies, except for their head and knees. Rugby players will film the field without helmets and have no padding, but tackles are allowed under the shoulders only.

This new game is partially popularized by a company called Runit Championship League. This claims that the game was “born for being born” and that it “swaddled social media with tens of millions of views.” According to an interview with Australian public broadcaster ABC, CEO and owner Charizma says that Christy Lesa Charizma, Charizma, Christian Lesa, started when he was hospitalized and struggling with mental health.

Resa said she was inspired by YouTuber Donald de la Haye, a Costa Ricon-American professional soccer player called “Deestroing.” Pit players one-on-one for virus clicks. He recreates the concept in Australia, with tournament-like events spreading across New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

As followers and subscribers grew on YouTube, Instagram and Tiktok, Runit began holding championships where participants came across one another, with the last standings winning the prize.

The Runit League final is scheduled for June, with $200,000 (approximately $118,800).

According to Professor Patria Hume of Auckland Institute of Technology, he warned that there is a high risk of brain damage and death, and that straight-type collisions are more than five times more force than rugby tackle.

“Ryan’s death was preventable. It was a backyard imitation of the Runit event, designed for its social media impact,” Hume said.

“Runit lacks the structure, safety protocols and objectives of traditional sports. Rugby, boxing and MMA are physical in nature, but dominated by rules designed to minimize harm and protect athletes.”

Stacey Mowbray, CEO of brain-injured tissue Headway, told CNN that Trending games are not a sport, adding that it is “reckless and glorious violence.”

“We fired an alarm in New Zealand when we heard they were warning us that we were at a higher risk of brain injuries and death. Social media was used to target young people with a message that this was a bit fun. That’s not the case. It’s fatal.

“It’s not about my head hitting the ground, it’s a shock,” she said.

A Runit Championship League spokesperson said in a statement that it did not encourage “sports copying” by saying it should only be done under “strict conditions.”

“All RUNIT events will follow established protocols including screening participants for suitability, strict guidelines on location and methods (between shoulders and hips only), followed by medical support and medical assessments conducted during and after the competition,” they told CNN..

The alarm bell had already sounded about the game before Ryan Satterthwaite’s death. Last week, two men were knocked unconscious during a Ranlit League event at Auckland’s Trust Arina, and one of them fell into a seizure.

“There was overwhelming concern about the high-risk nature of Runit-style events,” Lynette Adams, interim CEO of Trusts Arena, told CNN.

“We have decided not to allow future Runit events to take place at Trusts Arena as safety for all participants in our venue is paramount.”

High contact sports like rugby and rugby league are very popular in New Zealand, and Satterthwaite’s death puts pressure on the sports body and puts it in a straight, prone position.

Two rivals from the Runit Championship League in Auckland, New Zealand.

New Zealand Rugby issued a statement warning people, “We should not take that into straight games or competitions as we take a serious risk of serious injuries.”

“People who want to play contact sports should sign up for schools and club teams and learn the art of avoidance and how to tackle safely in a controlled, safe environment,” the statement said.

Many New Zealand schools are working to prohibit students from playing games on school grounds, and are also banned by local council committees from some of Auckland’s largest city, the country’s largest city.

David Bobby, president of Palmerston North Boys High School, attended by Ryan Sutterthwaite a few years ago, said he had planned to warn students about the risk of running straight on campus before hearing about Ryan’s death.

“It’s an absolute tragedy. I can almost say that something like this is going to happen,” Bobby told RNZ, adding that he received the news 20 minutes before addressing students on Monday.

“I think this kind of thing really goes home in terms of the message we’re trying to give to the boys because teenage boys are terrible at thinking about the outcomes and they don’t think anything will happen to them. “This is something I shouldn’t.”
