Is it the right time to buy?

0

play

Bitcoin Price (Cryptography: BTC) It has skyrocketed 24% in the past month, pushing its value back to over $100,000 for the first time since February. Investors are once again regaining optimism with world-leading cryptocurrencies, but is it a good time to buy?

This is why Bitcoin prices are rising again, and why it’s better to wait for the current waves until the dust settles into tariffs and potential economic impacts.

Why investors are on board with Bitcoin

Bitcoin fell in stages, causing stock prices to plummet after President Trump announced numerous tariffs on imports. This caused Bitcoin to fall to around $76,000 in early April.

However, over the past few weeks, investors have reassessed their selling sentiment and have once again acquired stocks and cryptocurrency. The hope is that the Trump administration will settle trade transactions before it causes serious pain in the US economy.

For example, the administration recently released some details about a new trade agreement with the UK. This was the main reason why Bitcoin’s value bounced over $100,000. Details include 10% lower tariffs on the first 100,000 vehicles imported into the US, as opposed to 25%, as well as a tariff exemption on steel and aluminum.

Furthermore, China and the US have recently agreed to defeat the trade war. Tariffs on Chinese imports will decrease from 145% to 30% over 90 days, but trade contracts will be issued. China will reduce its tariffs from 125% to 10%.

Bitcoin is not directly affected by tariffs, but many investors buy and sell cryptocurrency based on tariff news. It appears that some Bitcoin investors now believe that the trade war with China will be resolved and other tariff transactions will be held before it hurts the economy.

A surge in Bitcoin optimism may be premature

I think there are several good reasons to be optimistic about Bitcoin’s future. Cryptocurrency recently gained a major institutional adoption with the launch of the Bitcoin ETF last year. The Trump administration has also adopted a lighter regulatory approach to cryptocurrency, and announced its strategic Bitcoin reserve just a few months ago.

All of these have been a positive move for Bitcoin’s long-term viability as an investment. However, there should be far more volatility in the short term due to the general uncertainty of tariffs and the economy.

First, the trade agreement between the US and China is not finalized. Imports from China still suffer a significant 30% tariff, and can be high or low by the end of negotiations, depending on how trade talks are conducted.

Even if the deal goes on for the next three months, the Trump administration shows it doesn’t bother to throw a wrench at previously established economic norms. It’s a bad thing for Bitcoin prices, as investors tend to respond strongly to negative economic news, just like the original tariff announcement.

How much does tariff affect the economy?

Furthermore, even if significant trade transactions with the country are made, rising consumer prices due to import duties could still affect the economy. For example, after some tariff exemptions have been made on cars, Ford recently said the prices of the three models would rise up to $2,000 due to tariffs.

The main point here is that there are still major questions about how much tariffs will affect the economy. Bitcoin investors have chosen to be optimistic with some of the positive news, but over the coming months we will learn more about how the economy is actually doing.

If you are interested in owning Bitcoin, it is best to wait until all trade transactions have been made with the country. Waiting a few months will give you a much better view of whether the Trump administration is holding the economy under bad policies or whether the trade fiasco is smoothing out.

Stock markets and Bitcoin prices are moving significantly based on almost a day’s tariff news, so buying now is flirting at its best ever – looks like a bad move.

FDA to remove fluoride supplements for children away from the market

0

play

US health regulators have announced that it is beginning to remove ingestible fluoride supplements for children from the market, the latest move by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to target dental enrichment minerals.

Fluorides – naturally occurring minerals found in water, soil, air and a variety of foods – help prevent tooth caves and tooth decay. The mineral has been added to public water supplies in the United States for decades and has been added to dental supplies such as toothpastes.

In a May 13 news release, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said the Food and Drug Administration is beginning to phase out “intakeable prescription drugs” from the market. Fluoride supplements are usually prescribed to children at high risk of tooth decay and cavities, or to children who live in areas where drinking water is not frozen.

The agency noted that supplements taken verbally with tablets or drops were not approved by the FDA. FDA Commissioner Marty McCurry also cited studies that suggest that supplements can alter the gut microbiota of children and demonstrated a possible link between ingested fluoride and “thyroid disorders, weight gain, and possibly a decrease in IQ.”

“The termination of use of ingestible fluorides has been postponed for a long time,” Kennedy said in a statement. “This decision brings us a step closer to realizing President Trump’s promise to make America healthy again.”

Kennedy’s push on fluoride is part of his controversial American healthy move, focusing on bringing an end to what he calls the “chronic illness epidemic.” Scientists and dental health groups have repeatedly warned that the Health Secretary’s recommendations on fluoride are disastrous for public health.

“The rationale for limiting use should be evidence-based, and there is no scientific evidence that low levels of fluoride affect the gut microbiota,” American Association of Dental Hygienists President Erin Haley Hitz said in a statement following a May 13 FDA announcement.

Eliminating fluoride resources presents “unprecedented challenges for oral disease prevention” in underserved areas, Haley Hitz added. According to Reuters, the American Dental Association has also repeatedly supported the community’s water fluorination to prevent tooth decay.

The FDA has set a goal date for October 31st and has included safety reviews and public comment periods in the measurement.

What are the advantages of fluoride?

Fluoride works by strengthening the enamel of teeth, which is a hard exterior surface, and is resistant to acids produced by bacteria in the mouth that cause cavities, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. Fluoride also reverses early tooth decay by replacing and preventing mineral loss.

Before the start of community water fluorination, tooth collapse and cavities were widely available and affected the entire US population, according to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Public health officials later recommended water fluorination after studying how fluoride can reduce tooth decay.

The CDC, known as drinking water fluorination, is one of the biggest public health outcomes of the 20th century, during which time the average life expectancy of Americans increased by 30 years.

Over 100 health agencies, including the CDC, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the ADA, claim that water fluorination is safe and effective. According to the American Dental Association, community water fluorination reduces tooth decay in children and adults by more than 25% and more than 25% for children and adults.

The announcement comes after a push by RFK Jr. to ban fluoride in the water

Kennedy supports the claim that fluoride is behind many health conditions, ranging from ADHD and hypothyroidism to lower IQ. Dentists and epidemiologists have fought back on the unscientifically proven accusations and warn that removing fluoride from the water system could seriously damage public health.

In April, the health secretary said he would direct the CDC to stop recommending cities and states add fluoride to public water systems. Adding fluoride to water is not required by law.

Utah became the first state in the United States to ban fluoride in public water systems after Gov. Spencer Cox signed the law in March. The law came into effect on May 7th.

Florida is set to become a second state that bars fluoride from being added to public water supplies after Gov. Ron DeSantis announced he planned to sign the bill on May 6th. The new law is expected to come into effect on July 1st.

The Cavaliers were eliminated by the Pacers. What should they do now?

0

play

The Cleveland Cavaliers ran into two problems in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.

The Indiana Pacers are alone and don’t shorten the series’ victory over the 4-1 series cab. As the season progresses, well-coached Pacers have improved and are playing solid basketball in the playoffs.

The injury was on the other side, and the Cavaliers were unable to get enough healthy players on the court for enough games to give them a better chance. All-star Darius Garland, All-star and defensive player of the year Evan Mobley and Key Reserve de Andre Hunter all suffered injuries to the match against Indiana and missed three Game 2 innings.

The Cavaliers and their fans have been disappointed and certainly left the 2025 playoffs, wondering what the playoffs would have if the cab got healthy.

You need a measured approach to know what you need to do in the offseason. This is how ownership of Basketball Operations president Coby Altman and general manager Mike Gandhi navigate the offseason.

This isn’t Cleveland’s “reevaluating the direction of the team” summer. The Cavaliers had one of the best seasons in franchise history, going 64-18. This was the second-best record in franchise history and the best non-LeBron James regular season.

In Kenny Atkinson’s first season with the team – he was selected as NBA Coach of the Year – the Cavs are No. 1 offensively, scoring 121 points, defending 8th, allowing 111.8 points and allowing the third-best net rating with a plus 9.2.

Cleveland’s Core 4 – Donovan Mitchell, Jarrett Allen, Garland, Mobley – and the fifth starter Max Strath have all been signed through at least 2026-27, with Isakuo Coro, Hunter and Dean Wade signing next season. It’s a great place.

Yes, there’s a fair amount of money invested in that roster, and the Cavs will be the tax paying team next season. That means Altman and Gansey have to work hard to fill in spots around the edges where they can help the Cavs.

Atkinson cut several minutes with Donovan, Garland, Allen and Strath during the regular season.

Cavs were unlucky at the wrong time. A great season and unfortunate event should not change the trajectory designed by the front office. The idea is to compete for the title against that core 4 for at least a few seasons, and what happened in the playoffs won’t change that.

Democrats urge HHS Secretary Kennedy to save the LGBTQ lifeline

0

play

More than 100 Congressional Democrats have signed a letter urging U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to scrub budget cuts that eliminate critical mental health services for LGBTQ+ youth who face more mental health challenges than their peers.

At-risk, it is provided through 988 suicide and crisis lifelines, and since its inception has concluded more than 13 million calls, texts and chats from the United States and its territory. Created through a bipartisan measure signed to the law by President Trump in 2020, Lifeline serves veterans and non-English speakers as well as LGBTQ+ youth.

Just like calling 911, anyone looking for mental or emotional health support can call 988 and have an additional option directed at LGBTQ+ Youth Support trained counselors.

The proposed cut, first reported by the Washington Post, will cut Lifeline’s LGBTQ+ Youth Services as part of the HHS overhaul. The restructuring will integrate 28 departments of the agency into 15, including a newly created administration for healthy America to implement Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy” agenda.

“Ending this mental health support for young people in the face of suffering will destroy resources that are important to some of our country’s most vulnerable youth,” the lawmaker’s letter said. “This myopic and dangerous plan would undermine and have fatal consequences if instituted, which would undermine the 988’s ability to provide support tailored to the population at high risk of suicide.”

The letter has been signed by 109 members of Congress, including Rep. Seth Moulton of D-Massachusetts. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Illinois; Rashida Tlaib, D-Michigan; Mark Pocan, D-Wisconsin.

“The mental health crisis does not recognize partisan differences. This is why the support of 988 and its professional services is always solidly and bipartisan,” the representative wrote. “…We urge you to abolish this wise plan. Children in our country deserve no less.”

Their mission reflects a similar letter issued on May 7 by a group of Democratic senators, including Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, Jeff Markley of Oregon, and Edward Markey of Massachusetts.

The cuts proposed to be implemented on October 1 are as LGBTQ+ young people experience a surge in mental health issues caused by rising attacks on the Trump administration’s community. The plan is still in draft format, and its final version requires council approval.

Of the 13 million calls, texts and chats Lifeline has received, approximately 1.2 million are directed towards LGBTQ+ Youth Hotline. The frequency of these contacts has skyrocketed over the past few months, according to the Trevor Project, one of seven federally funded contact centers that partner with Lifeline, which provides special support to LGBTQ+ youth.

According to the TREVOR project, suicide is the second leading cause of death among people aged 10 to 14 and the third leading cause of death among people aged 15 to 24, according to the national organization focusing on suicide prevention among LGBTQ+ youth. LGBTQ+ youths are likely to try more than four times as much suicide as their colleagues, with LGBTQ+ youths exceeding 1.8 million LGBTQ+ youths.

“Suicide prevention is about risk, not identity,” said Jaymes Black, CEO of the Trevor Project. Having ended Lifeline’s professional LGBTQ+ youth services, Black said:

In response to the lawmaker’s letter, a spokesman for the HHS Department of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services noted that all 988 services are currently available and have not been changed.

“988 Lifeline provides access to 24/7 calls, texts and skilled and caring crisis counselors who can help people experiencing suicide, substance misuse, or mental health crisis, or other types of mental distress,” the spokesman said. “If you are concerned about your loved one who needs support in a crisis, people can also call, text or chat with the 988. The 988 Lifeline is a direct connection to immediate support and resources for those who are in a crisis.”

What is 988 Lifeline?

The National 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and Veterans Crisis Line was launched in July 2022 and supported people experiencing mental health, substance use, or suicide crisis.

The service has emerged as a nationwide dial code for people in crisis to connect with suicide prevention and mental health crisis counselors since its recruitment in July 2020. A few months after the FCC’s actions, President Donald Trump signed the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act of 2020, which incorporated 988 lifelines into the law.

“When Congress established the 988 Lifeline, which was signed to law by President Trump during its first term, we intended it to be a resource for it. Any The representative said he was experiencing mental distress.

Community and mental health advocates agreed.

Tom Milam, a psychologist who serves as chief medical officer at Iris Telehealth, who has a strong presence in the LGBTQ+ community, said the proposed cuts are likely to exacerbate the stress that overloaded behavioral health resources are already facing. Patients who have been postponed to long-weight lists for outpatient behavioral health services are increasingly turning their eyes to emergency rooms and emergency care centers for mental health and addiction treatment, he said.

“988 was a game-changer as a resource for people struggling with mental health and addiction issues,” Milam said. If that option is no longer present due to inadequate staffing or experience extended hold times, more patients will call 911 or seek emergency room care.

“We see hospitals and healthcare systems doing their best to have people in our community with mental health and addiction issues, but that’s not enough,” he said.

Rachael Fried, executive director of Jewish Queer Youth, a New York-based mental health organization, said that he is well known for the acronym for JQY and will contribute to “even greater loss of hope” by eliminating Lif’s LGBTQ+ services.

“The administration’s proposal to cut services for LGBTQ youth through the 988 suicide and crisis hotline would have devastating and fatal consequences,” she said.

In a 2024 Trevor Project survey, Black found that 40% of LGBTQ+ young people had taken suicide seriously in the past year, but 12% had discovered that they had tried.

“We urge Congress to defend the establishment of this database’s bipartisan program and ensure that life-saving services continue to continue,” they said. “We don’t need to agree to all policy issues to agree that every young life is worth saving.”

If you or someone you know is struggling or in a crisis, help is available. Call or text 988 or chat with 988 at 988lifeline.org.

Diddy Trial Live Stream: How to Watch

0

play

When Sean’s “Diddy” Combs trial moves to the opening argument, curious court watchers may be disappointed to find out that it’s not as easy as adjusting the livestream following the play.

Unlike some other similarly well-known exams like Johnny Depp and OJ Simpson, these procedures will not air.

As Combs faces federal accusations of sex trafficking and assault, and a newly selected ju-degree weighs his innocence, the enthusiastic eyes must resort to court sketches and dispatch of reporters from within for the news feed.

So why was the camera locked out of court?

Can I get a trial of Diddy live stream?

No, turn off that court TV stream. There are no video snippets for the Combs Trial.

As Combs faces federal criminal charges, the existence of “electronic media” is expressly prohibited by procedural rules passed in 1946.

The law, titled Federal Criminal Procedure 53, prohibits both photographs and photos from the courtroom of federal criminal trials. R. Kelly’s federal criminal trial on similar charges also did not air.

Some of the prosecution’s key witnesses testify under pseudonyms with the aim of protecting their identity, further enhancing the air of privacy intended to surround such sensitive cases.

The rules regarding federal civil litigation are slightly more flexible and can be recorded in some cases at the discretion of the judge. Some criminal trials at the state level allow cameras in court, as in the case of Alex Murdauh’s close monitoring.

What fees does Didi face?

Diddy is charged with two counts of sex trafficking, two transports engaged in prostitution and one assault.

Racketeering is the participation in organizational laws affected by Racketeer or illegal schemes under RICO as a way for the US government to prosecute organizations that contribute to criminal activity.

Using the RICO Act, which is generally intended to target multi-person criminal organizations, prosecutors join “freak-offs” of threats and drugs, saying that Combs is claiming forced victims, some of whom are sex workers.

Israel targeted Hamas leader Mohamed Singhwar on a hospital strike in Gaza, sources say

0

CNN

Israel targeted Hamas leader Mohamed Singhwar on a strike at a hospital in southern Gaza on Tuesday evening, according to two sources familiar with the issue, according to senior Israeli officials and two sources.

He became the de facto leader of extremist groups after Israeli forces killed his brother Yahya Sinwar last October.

The strike on Tuesday killed six Palestinians and injured at least 40 people, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) said it had struck at Khan Eunice’s European hospital to target “Hamasterolists from Command and Control Centres” in the underground infrastructure under the hospital. The IDF did not identify a strike target.

According to nurse Dr. Saleh Al Hams, multiple airstrikes have been struck in the hospital’s yards. Some people are buried under the tiled rub, he said, calling it a “catastrophe.” The medical team tried to move patients to a safe unit within the hospital.

Videos from the scene showed towering pillars of smoke and dust from what appears to be some of Gaza’s biggest strikes in recent weeks.

Hamas rejected Israeli claims about Singwar, saying in a statement, “Palestinian resistance is the only authority that has been empowered to confirm or deny what is publicly available through official platforms.”

On Tuesday night, the IDF said it had intercepted two rockets fired from Gaza. The third rocket has landed in the open area. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad military wing has argued responsibility for the attack, saying it fired fire in an Israeli city near Gaza.

After some time, Israel issued evacuation warnings to Jabariya refugee camps and areas near northern Gaza, saying the IDF will “attack and operate anywhere where rockets are fired.”

This still shows Mohammed Sinwar, a brother to Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, is traveling by car through a tunnel near the Erez intersection near the Israeli Gaza border.

The targeting of Singwar comes the day after Hamas released Israeli American Edan Alexander with a good-willed gesture to the United States. As Hamas communicated with the Trump administration, the contract to release a single hostage was on the sidelines for Israel.

The United States has expressed optimism about negotiations in Qatar with President Donald Trump and his envoy Steve Witkov in the Middle East. Before leaving Israel, Witkov promised the hostage family that he would “be someone who is less stolen by their pursuit.”

But with negotiations to begin in Doha and Israeli teams along the way – Singwar’s target has just tried to kill Hamas’ key decision makers, which Israel needs to seal off the potential agreement.

Israeli officials thought that Mohammed Singwar was just as hard-lined as his brother Yahya, but he was far more experienced in the military. According to the IDF, he ordered the Khan Eunice Brigade until 2016. Like Yahiya, he is considered to be one of the main plotters for the terrorist attacks against Israel on October 7th.

Since the start of the war he remained hidden along with many of the Hamas senior leaders in Gaza. In December 2023, IDF released a video of what they said. In February 2024, the IDF said they placed his office in West Khan Eunice.

Former US ambassador for Israeli Dan Shapiro said Singar is likely a barrier to negotiations. “There’s very little chance that the war will end before he dies,” Shapiro, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, told CNN. “His removal opened the door for the release of all hostages and began moving towards the postwar future of Gaza, without Hamas.”

However, even if Singwar dies, it may take some time before Israel officially states that he has officially killed him. In mid-July, Israel said it targeted Mohammed Deif on a strike in the designated humanitarian belt in southern Gaza. It took me more than two weeks until August, before the IDF actually declared that he had killed DEIF. Hamas did not confirm his death until the end of January, almost six months later.

By October, most of the people at the Israeli military crossing were Yahyasinwar. Yahya, who was sentenced to four life sentences in 1988, said she became fluent in Hebrew and spent many years studying her enemies. He was released in 2011 as part of the contract to release Israeli soldier Girad Sharit. His release stems from the fact that his brother Mohammed was one of Sharit’s temptations and insisted on including Yahiya’s deal.

Back in Gaza, Yahiya quickly passed through the ranks of extremist organizations and eventually became its leader.

From October 7th, Yahya became Israel’s most wanted man, and the IDF searched for him in a small coastal enclave. US officials believed that Israel had approached Yahya several times and washed him out of his underground hiding spot.

However, Yahiya moved undetected in the tunnel beneath Gaza, rarely coming to the ground, avoiding detection by Israeli electronic surveillance. Ultimately, it was a daily Israeli patrol in Gaza, engaged in a shootout in Rafa, southern Gaza, and discovered Yahiya’s body in Rafa.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Social Security checks may be in late May. Why and when

0

play

Millions of US Social Security beneficiaries will experience a delay in payments in May 2025. The Social Security Agency (SSA) has confirmed that these delays are due to staff reductions, technology updates and implementation of the Social Security Equity Act.

When will the payment be made in May?

According to SSA’s official calendar, payments will be distributed as follows:

  • May 1: Supplementary Income Security Payment (SSI).
  • May 2: Beneficiaries who have begun receiving payments by May 1997 or have received both SSI and Social Security.
  • May 14: Beneficiaries were born between 1 and 10th of the month.
  • May 21: Beneficiaries were born between 11 and 20th of the month.
  • May 28th: The beneficiary was born between the 21st and 31st of that month.

It is important to note that calendar adjustments allow you to process some payments late. SSA recommends waiting at least 3 business days after the scheduled date before contacting your agent for payments received.

Why are payments late?

SSA faces several challenges that have contributed to the delay.

  • Reduction of personnel: The agency cut around 7,000 employees, impacting payments and customer service processing capabilities.
  • Implementation of the Social Security Equality Act: The law eliminated the disposal of excessive profit removal (WEP) and government pension (GPO) compensation, required manual review of many cases, and delayed the renewal of benefits for around 1 million beneficiaries.
  • Technology Updates: SSA is modernizing the system, causing a temporary interruption in payment processing

Who will influence this change?

About 7.4 million people in the United States, according to a previous report from USA Today. They receive monthly payments from SSI due to disability or limited resources. A third of those will also receive Social Security benefits, so this month you will see three deposits on your account.

  1. May SSI Check: Issued on May 1st.
  2. Monthly Social Security Payment: Depending on your date of birth (see below).
  3. June SSI Check: Pre-issued on June 1st and May 30th.

What should I do if my payment is late?

If you have not received your payment on the expected date:

  1. Check with the bank: Check if a deposit has been created.
  2. Please wait 3 business days: The SSA suggests waiting for this period before taking any other action.
  3. Contact SSA: If you have not received your payment after this time, please contact SSA at 1-800-772-1213 or visit SSA.gov.

What is SSI?

Supplementary Income Insurance (SSI) is a program that provides the following financial assistance:

  • People over 65 with limited income or resources
  • Qualified blindness or disability
  • Children with disabilities who meet the requirements
  • Financial Requirements: Generally, adults who earn more than $2,019 a month for their work are not eligible for SSI.

Judge Stephanie Haynes of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania held that President Donald Trump has the authority to declare Venezuelan gangster Tren DeLagua a foreign terrorist organization and expel its members under alien enemy law. However, she criticized the administration’s practice of deporting people “within hours.”

Haynes, appointed by Trump during his first term, decided that the administration must give the administration a minimum of 21 days of notice and the opportunity to challenge rescue to avoid the possibility that non-gang members could be “mistaked from this country.”

She said that in the case of a Venezuelan man identified as ASR Haynes, ASR does not control whether he is a member of the gang, but people like him must give him the opportunity to challenge deportation.

Haynes requested that the government provide notices in Spanish and English and interpreters if necessary.

Lee Gererund, an American Civil Liberties Union lawyer representing ASR, said he would appeal.

“We will strongly oppose the court’s decision to allow the government to continue this wartime power even in peacetime and appeal that aspect of the decision,” Gerrellund said.

Haynes’ ruling is against other federal court decisions regarding the Trump administration’s interpretation of the alien enemy law. The president summoned him in March as a legal justification to deport hundreds of men who accused his administration of being members of Tren de Lagua.

Federal judges in New York, Colorado and Texas opposed Trump’s use of law to deport Venezuelans.

Haynes noted in her ruling that her district has jurisdiction over petitions filed by the ASR despite being transported from an immigration and customs enforcement facility in Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania on April 15 to a Texas ice detention center.

The Trump administration deported gang members to El Salvador prisons under a deal in which the US would pay a $6 million dollar to a Central American country. That’s part of Trump’s hard-pressed approach to immigration.

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

‘We’re here to tear it down and rebuild it from scratch’ – Formula Fixed indoor short track racing series charts path for US launch

0

“A cultural movement on wheels” is how organisers are describing Formula Fixed, a new US-based bike racing series to be launched in early September 2025 with a pair of two-day qualifying events. The top finishers will then compete in conference-structured competitions and a championship in the spring of 2026.

At first look it appears to resemble the informal and rowdy garage races that are popular in Arlington, Virginia during winter months in a parking deck, or even the Red Hook Crit fixed-gear races held outdoors from 2008-2018. However, a new format has been designed specifically for fixed-gear racing, using an indoor venue to create a track that “resembles a video game, street racing or snowboardcross”. They want a distinct departure from a road race finish with a street banner or the inflexibility of a velodrome.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina bans elections

0

Dhaka, Bangladesh
AP

Bangladesh’s election commission has cancelled the registration of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, preventing him from participating in the next general election, which is expected to be held by June next year.

The decision on Monday comes hours after the country’s interim government led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammed Yunus issued an official notice banning the Awami League Party and its affiliates from operating online and elsewhere.

A formal notice from the Home Ministry was issued on Monday two days after the interim cabinet decided that the special court would ban all party activities under the state’s anti-terrorism law until the trial of the party and its leaders.

In the notice, the government said it had banned all activities “including all kinds of publications, media, online and social media” as well as “all kinds of campaigns, processions, meetings, meetings (or) meetings (or) meetings until the trials of leaders and activists are complete.”

He said the decision was soon effective.

Separately, the Election Commission said Monday that it would not allow the Hasina-led party to challenge the next election. Political parties must be registered with the Election Commission to participate in elections.

Government advisers said Monday that anyone who posted comments online in support of the Awami League party will face arrest.

On Sunday, the Awami League accused the interim government of trampling on “democratic norms” by banning the “stalking sector” and its activities. In a statement, the ban said “the vague divisions within society have strangled democratic norms, promoted ongoing pogroms against opponents, and strangled all undemocratic measures.”

The Awami League is one of the two major political parties in Bangladesh, with parliamentary democracy with a violent history of coups and political assassinations.

Hasina, daughter of Bangladeshi’s independent leader Sheikh Mujibour Rahman, fled the country on August 5th last year and has since been exiled in India along with many senior party colleagues and former cabinet rulers and lawmakers. They are accused of killing protesters during the uprising against Hasina’s 15-year regulations from July to August last year.

The UN Human Rights Office said in a February report that up to 1,400 people could have been killed during the three-week anti-hasina protests. However, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ office was recommended in a report that “we will effectively disenfranchise voters in large part, refraining from banning political parties that undermine a genuine multi-party return to democracy.”

The Awami League, which led a nine-month war with Pakistan for independence in 1971, has been under severe pressure since Hasina’s expulsion. Protesters attacked and ran around many offices, including Dhaka’s headquarters. It accuses the interim government of sponsoring mobs to attack the homes and businesses of their activists and leaders. Thousands of supporters have said they have been arrested across the country, and many have been killed.

Yunus said the next election is likely to take place in December or June next year.

‘We’re all hunting for stage wins’ – Lacking a GC bid, XDS Astana move into crunch time at Giro d’Italia

0

As the Giro d’Italia moves fully into its second week, the stage hunters are coming to the fore – meaning that while other WorldTour squads are looking at GC opportunities, XDS Astana’s exclusive focus on stage wins will now be put to the test.

The Kazakh squad has come to the 2025 Giro with multiple and very diverse types of racers. Riders like Diego Ulissi, winner of eight such transition stages like the tricky finale in Matera, and Wout Poels, who has taken mountains stages in the Tour and Vuelta but never in the Giro, say they are both ready to be in the thick of the action.

Rohan Dennis: Former Olympic cyclist receives a suspended sentence via the death of his wife, Melissa Hoskins

0

Adelaide, Australia
AP

Former Olympic cyclist and world champion Rohan Dennis received a suspended sentence Wednesday for what he called a “tragic accident” that led to the death of his wife, Olympian Melissa Hoskins.

Dennis, 34, appeared in South Australia District Court after pleading guilty to committing aggravated conduct that could cause harm.

Dennis was arrested after 32-year-old Hoskins was hit by his car in front of his home in Medindi in northern Adelaide on December 30, 2023. Hoskins was seriously injured in a crash and died at Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The court was said that the couple discussed the kitchen renovation before Dennis left the house. The court also heard that Hoskins jumped into the hood of a car during the incident. His license was also suspended for five years.

Dennis was sentenced to one year, four months and 28 days to be suspended for two years. This sentence fell from two years and two months due to his guilty plea, and he was placed in a two-year, good bond of conduct.

Melissa Hoskins at the UCI Truck Cycling World Championship held in Melbourne, Australia in 2012. She passed away in December 2023.

The crime was sentenced to up to seven years in prison, but attorney Jane Abbey asked her client to receive the suspended sentence, which did not oppose the prosecution.

During the April filing volume ruling, Amanda Hoskins said her daughter loved Dennis.

“I think this is a tragic accident. Your temper is your downfall and you need to deal with it,” she said.

Hoskins’ funeral was held in his hometown of Perth, Western Australia, and a public commemoration was held in Adelaide in February 2024. Dennis attended the service with her two children.

Hoskins was on the team that won the 2015 world title, competing on team-track tracks at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. Dennis won two world titles in the Roadtime Trial, winning team pursuit at the 2012 Olympics and bronze silver at the Roadtime Trial at the Tokyo Olympics.

Egg prices fell in April. Is the decline temporary?

0

play

U.S. egg prices fell in April for the first time in months, but dozens of Grade A eggs are still higher as eggs average out to $5.12.

The total egg cost fell 12.7% last month, according to the Labor Bureau’s Consumer Price Index. The decline represents a decline to the first month since October 2024. A series of price increases over the last few months have been linked to a long-standing bird flu outbreak that has affected American poultry farms and egg-selling chickens. In March, the average price for a dozen Grade A eggs reached a record $6.23.

“I think this is a pretty big move given that we were at record levels a few months ago,” said Bernd Nelson, an economist with the American Farm Bureau Federation. “It’s not necessarily going to stay like this, but this is great in recent years.”

Nelson believes that the majority of prices have been lowered due to cooperation between farmers and the USDA to implement biosecurity, or measures taken to prevent the spread of avian flu on farms.

Eylem Senyuz, senior investment strategy analyst at Truist, said prices are also falling as U.S. sellers import more eggs. He said the reduction in the heat and energy and feed costs required to care for chickens are also contributing to the reduction.

Changes in consumer behavior can also affect prices. If you’re used to paying $2 for dozens of eggs, you might stop buying eggs.

White House spokesman Kush Desai celebrated the decline in a statement Tuesday, promoting other news from the CPI report, which also showed cooling inflation.

“The CPI report shows that Americans are experiencing true financial relief. Prices for groceries, gas and eggs are falling, but actual wages are rising,” Desai said. “President Trump’s first American policy created a historic economy in his first term, and he lays the foundation for repeated success in his second term.”

But is the drop in egg prices temporary or are you going to stick?

Will egg prices continue to fall or will they rise again?

In April, USDA still anticipates a significant increase in egg prices this year, forecasting a 54.6% increase in 2025.

Nelson said the USDA forecast is based in part on the assumption that farmers will continue to fight the avian flu.

But “If things are as calm as they are now, if we have a relatively low case load, we might see stronger biosecurity do the job and start to show some success and lower egg prices,” he said.

Several other factors, including production speed, will affect the price of eggs over the coming months. Even the peace deal between Russia and Ukraine can change egg prices for US consumers, as two of the world’s leading grain producers could potentially change egg prices for US consumers, and lower the costs of chicken feed.

“If you just look at the input prices, energy, agriculture and the import process that has begun, and you need to guess what the numbers should be for next month, it should be lower, not higher,” Senus said.

Simon Kucher partner Ellen Kang said that despite efforts to build a domestic supply, the size of egg-soaked flocks remains significantly smaller than before the bird’s fluorescence, making it difficult to know where egg prices will be months from now. She said the supply chain is not “meaningly protected” in any way from six months ago.

“We are subject to any kind of volatility or major shock to the supply system if there is another big outbreak,” Kang said. “So I don’t know if Solve is sustainable or not. We’re lucky and we can stick to it, but who knows?”

Changes to customs policy also add price uncertainty. According to Senyuz and Kan, eggs and anything that affects production are likely to mean an increase in costs.

Did groceries get cheaper overall in April?

Grocery prices fell 0.4% in April and almost rose 0.5% in the previous month. Other breakfast essentials also fell, with cereal prices falling 2.5% and bacon costs down 1%.

Other food staples have become more expensive, such as bread, which has risen by 1.6% and fresh fish and seafood, which has risen by 0.8%.

Grocery costs have declined on average, but the report found that dining out prices have become more expensive, up about 4% from the past year. Prices for foods that are away from home rose 0.4% in April, rising three times in a row each month.

Federal Jury will indict Wisconsin judges in immigration cases

0

play

MILWAUKEE – The Federal Jury tried to support the Wisconsin judge on May 13 in the midst of a growing conflict between President Donald Trump and the judicial system last month, attempting to support the arrest of undocumented immigrants from court.

The two-page indictment accused Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan, 66, of obstructing US agencies and hiding individuals to prevent arrests. The two charges will result in the largest penalty in a six-year prison and a $350,000 fine, but the sentences for non-violent crimes are usually much shorter.

Dugan will enter his petition at the May 15th hearing.

“As I said after the unnecessary arrest, Judge Dugan has argued her innocence and is looking forward to being proven in court,” Dugan’s defense team said in a statement.

The indictment came after a series of witnesses entered federal court all day on May 13th to testify before a large ju trial. Among the people featured were Alain Fried Jr., the court clerk at Dugan, and Mercedes de la Rosa, the lawyer for Eduardo Flores Luis, an undocumented immigrant at the heart of the case. De La Rosa has withdrawn from his lawsuit.

Also testified was Milwaukee County Judge Christella Servera, a misdemeanor judge whose court is next to Dugan. She arrived and left with defense attorney Michael F. Hart. Cervera, Hart, and Freed declined to comment.

The 20-man big ju judge returned the charges against Dugan at 5:10pm local time on May 13th, before Judge Nancy Joseph, at 5:10pm local time. No votes have been made by the large ju judge.

Joseph said the required number was recorded. 12 out of the 20 ju umpires must vote to indict them. After a brief indicted return hearing, Joseph reminded the Great Ju trial of their oaths and kept the case secret.

US lawyer Richard Floring appeared in the government, which is unusual and highlights the case’s profile. US District Judge Lynn Adelman was chosen to preside on the Dugan case.

A Wisconsin judge was accused of helping humans avoid immigration authorities

The case stems from the arrest of Flores Lewis, 30, in Milwaukee County Courthouse on April 18th. His arrest is part of the Trump administration’s federal crackdown on undocumented immigrants.

According to criminal charges, Dugan is accused of escorting Flores Lewis and his public defense attorney through the side door and through the hallway. In the end, two federal agents chased Flores Lewis outside the courtroom and arrested him.

A week later, Dugan was arrested in court, handcuffed and appeared before a federal magistrate, gaining federal custody. FBI Director Kash Patel has announced that Dugan has been arrested for X.

The indictment omits some details provided in previous criminal charges against Dugan. The six arrest team appeared on the sixth floor of Milwaukee County Courthouse on April 18 with plans to arrest Flores Lewis, according to the criminal charges.

According to the complaint, De Laza took photos of individual members of the arrest team, warned Fried that federal agents were out of court, telling him where they were sitting and what they were wearing. Fried, a former Employment Law and Disabled Rights Attorney, informed Dugan of the situation.

The indictment then accused Dugan of leaving the courtroom and facing a team of six arrests in the hallway, misrepresenting that a judicial warrant, not an administrator, was required to detain Flores Lewis.

He also allegedly in 2016 the veteran judge had directed the group to leave the public corridor and go to the office of Milwaukee County Chief Judge Carl Ashley. The criminal charges say Cervera, a misdemeanor judge, took the group to Ashley’s office, made a copy of the warrant, and spoke to Ashley over the phone about their plans.

However, Cervera left one agent behind in a public corridor, the criminal charges said.

Dugan is accused of expediting the then Flores Lewis case by processing it from records while most of the members of the arrest team were in Ashley’s office. Dugan then directed Flores Lewis and his lawyer, De La Rosa, to leave the room via “a private ju judge’s door,” according to the indictment.

The door led to an adjacent corridor and a public area with an elevator on the sixth floor of the courthouse.

Dugan told De La Rosa that her clients could appear on Zoom for the next court date. However, the federal agents left behind by Cervera saw Dellaza and her clients in the public hallways and entered the elevator with them, leading to Flores Lewis’ final arrest.

Flores Lewis holds federal custody at the Ozakey County Jail. He is expected to have a new public defense counsel named before the next court hearing on May 14th.

Judge arrests cause scrutiny

Dugan’s arrest in the court prompted widespread criticism from protesters and local government officials. Milwaukee County Judge Carl Ashley said he and his colleagues were “all interested” about how Dugan was handcuffed in court.

But Trump officials said they regularly execute warrants and arrest them in public buildings because they know where and when people are there and that those who pass security checkpoints are not armed.

According to a May 6 CNN report, 12 cases have been confirmed by people arrested on ice on or near court premises in Virginia or New Hampshire, North Carolina, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Wisconsin.

‘Damage control’ for pink jersey as chaotic Giro d’Italia finish ‘destroyed’ Mads Pedersen’s Lidl-Trek lead-out train

A “chaotic” Lecce circuit at the Giro d’Italia saw Lidl-Trek’s luck run out and a dominant start to the race come to an end, with several incidents “destroying” Mads Pedersen’s lead-out train for the sprint.

Pedersen had gone two for two in road stages at the Giro in Albania, but with a flat day on offer in the south of Italy for stage 4, the hectic nature of a Grand Tour sprint finale saw his planned last man, Søren Kragh Andersen, crash hard, and his team forced into “damage control”.

Following the allegations of sexual abuse, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura Fine stands for ex-boyfriend Sean “Diddy “Combs ‘Criminal Trial.”

Ventura Fine, whose November 2023 lawsuit against the hip-hop monk opened the floodgates to a series of civil complaints, gave emotional testimony on May 13th about alleged abuse she endured combs during their relationship.

The singer cried out in court when he discussed Combs’ “freak-off.” She said that although they made them feel “terrifying” and “unworthy”, she continued to participate for “one-on-one time” for “one-on-one time” and continued to participate without fear of the rapper becoming violent or finding new people.

Ventura Fine sniffs crying and tried to brooch the subject of not doing “gentle” or “freak-off,” but Combs, who described him as “scary,” is said to “slightly miss.”

Cathy testifies about Diddy Trial’s abuse, “freak-off.”

Through her testimony, Ventura accused Combs of finding out he was violent and abusive during their relationship after signing with his label Bad Boy records.

She claimed that Combs was psychologically abused her “everyday” and caused major mood swings. When he got mad, she insisted, “His eyes turn black. The version I loved him was no longer there.” He controlled much of her life, whether it was her career or her outfit, and the arguments often ended with physical violence that left her with bruises, she said.

Describing Combs’ alleged behavior in more detail, Ventura Fine said the rapper will punish her for stealing electronic devices, cars or jewels. She choked as Combs said he had taken away “my confidence.”

Kathy Arge was given drugs to keep him awake during “freak off”

After Combs introduced her to his “freak-off,” Ventura Fine said that she was “confusing” and “tensing”, but “I loved him so much” and “I want to make him happy.” She said Combs gave her ecstasy and alcohol before and after her first “freak-off.”

The “freak-off” lasted between 36 and 72 hours, testified by Ventura Fine, which took him long to recover for the majority of the week. Combs initially set up a “freak-off” but Ventura Fine said she would eventually do that too.

Over time, she claimed she was afraid that Comb would release videos and photos with her escorts on the internet.

Ventura claimed that her career was “suffocating” when she was with Comb, and that spending so much time on “freak-off” had an impact on her ability to make music. Combs usually went back to the chair while watching the testimony, but when Cathy talked about her career, she began taking notes.

Cathy explains hotel surveillance video

Ventura Fine told the court about a lead to a 2016 hotel surveillance video showing Combs attacking his then-girlfriend. She says the couple already has a “freak-off” that has become violent and she chooses to leave.

She had planned to premiere the movie later in the week, so she tried to avoid having sex with her escort.

However, Kathy said she was afraid of Combs’ reaction and worried that if she didn’t take part, he would physically hurt her. When Combs is asked how many times he threw her to the ground, Combs is seen doing it in footage before kicking her.

Diddy’s opening statement and first witness stand up

Ventura Fine’s testimony came the day after a video of a rapper attacking her in 2016 was shown by a ju-secret judge in COMBS’s sex crimes trial. The first witness from the prosecutor testified that he received a call about a “woman in pain” and when he arrived, he saw that Ventura Fein “had a Purpura Eye.”

In her opening statement, prosecutor Emily Johnson claimed that Combs “maliciously” defeated Ventura. Meanwhile, defense attorney Tenny Jelagos told the ju judge that Cathy was jealous after realising that she was not the wife of Combs.

Combs was arrested in September 2024 and charged with conspiracy to engage in prostitution, sex trafficking and transport. The alternative charges filed April 3rd were charged with him with two additional counts. Transportation engaged in sex trafficking and prostitution.

Kathy and Diddy’s lawsuit explained

Combs’ legal issues began in November 2023 when Ventura Fine accused rapper of rape, sex trafficking and physical abuse in a civil lawsuit.

Ventura Fine met Combs, then 37, in 2005, after Rap Mogul became interested in signing her on bad boy records. The singer “snuggled by a “stellar, fast-paced, drug-fueled lifestyle” and a romantic relationship with Comb, then “controlled” her life and hugged drugs and alcohol, from her healthcare to career opportunities.

Combs also raped Ventura in 2018, and the singer was allegedly forced into a “repeated, unnecessary sexual encounter” with a male prostitute whom he hired to document the encounter.

The settlement amount between Cathy and Diddy has not been revealed

Despite the bomb suit, Ventura Fine and Combs resolved the legal issue a day later. The exact payment amount has not been disclosed.

“I have decided to resolve this issue in a friendly manner on the condition that I have some control,” Ventura Fein said in a statement. Meanwhile, Combs wanted “all the best” in another statement after the settlement, when his ex and her family wanted the “best of all.”

How long was Cathy and Diddy?

Ventura Fine and Combs were romantically involved since 2007 and were on again until 2018.

Who is Cathy married to?

Ventura Fine has been married to personal trainer Alex Fine since 2019. The couple shares two children, Frankie and Sunny, a third.

As she testified, fines existed in the courts to support Ventura Fine.

Cathy’s abuse resurfaced after the video leaked

In May 2024, CNN released leaked surveillance footage of a comb physically attacking Kathy on March 5, 2016 at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles.

In the video, Ventura Fine is seen calling the elevator with a duffel bag in hand, but another camera angle shows a comb running down the hotel hallway with a bath towel. He catches up to Ventura before the elevator arrives, says Ventura finely with his hair and throws her into the ground. The rapper then kicks her twice.

Two days after the release of the footage, Combs took “full responsibility” for his actions and added that he “commits to becoming a better man every day.” A week later, Ventura Fine placed emphasis on the video, saying domestic violence “smashed me to someone I didn’t think I would become.”

On May 12, prosecutors showed footage of the 2016 attack at Combs’ sex crime trial. Jelagos said the “terrifying” and “dehumanizing” videos showed domestic violence, but said the fight was not about pushing her into gender, but about what Combs is trying to get from Cathy.

What does that mean for retirees?

play

During his campaign, President Trump proposed exemption from social security from federal income taxes. Several lawmakers in Congress recently introduced legislation aimed at achieving the same goal.

  • Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.) announced in January that you won it, you will keep it.
  • Rep. Jeff Van Drew (RN.J.) announced in January that he would not be tax-free on the Social Security Act.
  • In February, Rep. Thomas Massey (R-KY) announced the Elderly Tax Elimination Act.

Additionally, last month, President Trump urged Congress to approve a “big and beautiful” tax and spending bill that fulfills the promises of several other campaigns. “In the coming weeks and months, we will pass on the biggest tax cuts in American history, not including taxes on tips, no tax on social security, or tax on overtime,” he said.

However, these major changes to tax laws could hurt retired Social Security workers. This is why.

Social Security benefits could be reduced by 23% in 2035 under current tax laws

Social Security is primarily funded by taxes, but there are three sources of income. 91% comes from payroll tax, 4% comes from taxes collected in benefits, and 5% comes from interest acquired in trust fund assets. This program runs in the red periodically. This means that with more retired populations withdrawing benefits than tax paying populations supporting the program, they spend more money than they break in.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the Social Security Trust Fund (financial accounts that pay benefits to retirees, spouses, survivors and disabled workers) will be exhausted by 2034. At that point, one source of funding disappears. The remaining tax revenues will only cover 77% of the payments scheduled for 2035. This means that in 10 years, we can cut benefits by 23%, unless lawmakers find a solution.

Ending taxes on Social Security means that benefits will be cut faster

The CBO estimates that Social Security will run a $3.3 trillion deficit over the next decade. Taxes on benefits will be donated to $1.1 trillion in revenue over that period. So, eliminating income already means a much larger deficit. Similarly, trust funds will be exhausted faster than CBOs expect under current law. This means that Congress will have less time to avoid substantial profit cuts.

Importantly, the exact time to trust fund depletion depends on the discrepancy between cash inflows and outflows, but the Responsible Federal Budget Committee (CFRB) says that Social Security termination tax will move the depletion of trust funds a year ago. Alternatively, Penn Wharton’s budget model at Ivy League Business School estimates that it will speed up the depletion of trust funds over two years.

More broadly, the CRFB estimates tips, overtime and tax termination on social security — the hope that President Trump will be included in the “big beautiful bill” currently being debated in Congress — collectively brings the depletion of the trust fund until three years. In that scenario, profits will be reduced in 2032 unless lawmakers resolve the funding issue.

Furthermore, these tax law changes could potentially reduce Social Security revenues by up to $2 trillion over the next decade, resulting in even greater profit cuts than expected. The CRFB estimates that payments will be reduced by 33% by 2035 from the 23% reduction projected by the CBO under current tax laws.

The bottom line is: Representatives from both parties propose to eliminate taxes on social security benefits. President Trump proposed tips and took it further that overtime should be exempt from federal income tax. These changes may be bad for retired workers, despite the increased benefits of individuals currently owing taxes on social security checks.

Nancy Altman, president of the nonprofit Social Security Works, recently told Kiplinger, “Trump talks about removing taxation, which increases profits, but the very profits that are subject to taxation are significantly reduced.
