Krispy Kreme, McDonalds Partnership Ends this week: What should you know?

0

play

Buying at McDonald’s or even finding an original glass doughnut at McDonald’s may prove difficult after July 2nd.

The two companies announced last week that they had decided to quit their work together “after careful consideration.”

The fast food giant has begun offering three Krispy Kreme donut options, including original glass-covered donuts, sprinkled doughnuts and chocolate ice cream filled with donuts, at around 2,400 McDonald’s locations since March 2025.

However, these products cannot be successful and will soon be removed by companies.

“We are excited and pleased to partner with Krispy Kreme,” said Alyssa Eticofer, McDonald’s US Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer. “We collaborated strongly with Krispy Kreme and they provided great high quality products for us. This had to be a profitable business model for Krispy Kreme, while the partnership met expectations for McDonald’s and owner/operators.”

Krispy Kreme will prioritize increasing the availability of donuts, with McDonald’s focusing on building breakfast success.

Here’s what you need to know about the end of Krispy Kreme and McDonald’s Partnership:

When will McDonald’s stop offering Krispy Kreme doughnuts?

It is not immediately clear that McDonald’s will officially offer his last Krispy Kreme doughnut (or if you already have one), but the company announced on Tuesday, July 2nd that the partnership will officially end.

Krispy Kreme did not immediately respond to USA Today’s request for comment.

When is the partnership between Krispy Kreme and McDonald’s start?

Fast food enthusiasts noticed a short-lived corporate partnership in late 2023 as a staged test rollout of donuts began at 160 McDonald’s restaurants in Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky.

In October 2024, McDonald’s restaurant in the Chicago area began selling original glazed donuts and other fresh donuts. In the same month, Krispy Kreme locations began offering free donuts to customers if they showed McDonald’s paper or digital receipts dated October 10-14, 2024.

The two companies initially aimed to be available nationwide at participating restaurants by the end of 2026.

“By partnering with McDonald’s nationwide, fans and donut enthusiasts will provide daily access to fresh donuts and a joy for Krispy Kreme,” Charlesworth said in a March 2024 news release.

Tests at 160 McDonald’s restaurants in Lexington and Louisville were deemed “consumer excitement and demand exceeded expectations” and “successful.”

At least two people died in an ambush of Idaho firefighters

0

Two firefighters were killed and residents were ordered to evacuate, but the order was lifted after police found the dead man in the woods.

play

An Idaho sniper began flames and fatally shot two responded firefighters in an ambush attack before he died hours later, authorities said.

The discovery of the body at Canfield Mountain, a popular hiking destination outside of Coeur D’Alene city, culminated in a six-hour frenzy where around 300 local, state and federal officers flocked to the area. It started with a suspect who has not yet been identified by police, then set it on fire early in the afternoon before shooting the first responder who came out to put it out.

A third firefighter was also shot dead but was undergoing surgery and is in stable condition, Cootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris said at a press conference.

“It was a complete ambush,” he told reporters. “These firefighters didn’t have a chance.”

Authorities used cell phone location data to find the shooter’s body and a nearby firearm, Norris said. It is unclear how the suspect died, but Norris said law enforcement in response to the shooting had exchanged a shootout with him.

As investigators were searching for the shooter’s motive, firefighters resumed their fight against the flames, which had grown to 20 acres by late Sunday night, Norris said. Firefighters will keep the fire down all night before investigators search the area more thoroughly. Norris said he believes that more weapons will be found in the mountain terrain.

“(Today) is a day we will never forget in this community,” Cootenai County Commissioner Chairman Bruce Mattare said at a press conference. “It was the day when evil showed its face and we lost two excellent experts of the best quality.”

Canfield Mountain Attack Timeline

At 1:21pm local time, emergency dispatchers received a call reporting the fire on the east side of Canfield Mountain, Norris said. The caller has not revealed his name and is not considered a gunman.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and firefighters were broadcast at 2pm and fired fire.

Hundreds of law enforcement responded to the shooting scene. Officers traded firefights with suspects, Norris said.

Investigators used cell phone location data to discover a man they believed to be a suspect in Canfield Mountain, which had not moved after 3:16pm.

After 7:40pm, the Kootenai Sheriff’s Office announced that the man had been found dead and he raised the shelter in turn.

What do we know about firefighters?

Authorities did not publicly identify the firefighters who were killed and injured in the attack.

Norris told reporters that one of the murdered firefighters worked for the Cootenai County Fire Service, while the other worked for the Kool Darene Fire Station. The firefighter injured in the shooting also worked at the Coeur D’Alene Fire Station.

A procession was held for firefighters on Sunday night, Norris said.

A group of law enforcement agencies: “The Beautiful Horn of the World”: Locals

Nancy Murren, a longtime resident of Coeur D’Alene, said her quiet neighborhood was swarming up with law enforcement as authorities responded to a deadly attack at Canfield Mountain.

Mullen, who frequently hikes the Canfield Mountain Trail, said helicopters surrounded the forested area for hours, and a huge amount of law enforcement was on the ground.

That’s not what you’ve seen for over 30 years in Kohl Dahlene, a lush city in northwestern Idaho, about 30 miles east of Spokane, Washington.

“We have a beautiful corner of the world here. It’s wonderful and peaceful,” she said.

Mullen said he stopped listening to helicopters around the time law enforcement lifted the shelter and it was revealed that the man had died in Canfield Mountain.

Mullen said he hopes the authorities can concentrate on the fire, but he said the authorities are still burning and there is a risk of spreading. Mullen’s backyard is at the bottom of Canfield Mountain, and she and her husband said they would water their homes and gardens if wildfires were moving further.

Longtime residents said wildfires are common in northern Idaho, but there have been no major wildfires in Canfield Mountain for at least a decade.

Two firefighters died and three injured

The International Firefighters Association said in a post on X that two of its members were killed in an ambush and a third member remains in surgery.

“While responding to the fire early today at Coeur D’Alene in Idaho, IAFF members were ambushed for violent acts,” the union said. “Store them, their families, and law enforcement in your prayers.”

Kim Anderson, a spokesman for the Kootenai Health Hospital System, told USA Today the facility received two deceased firefighters and another person injured in the attack. She said she was unaware of the injured victim’s condition and she said she had postponed additional questions to local law enforcement.

Authorities tell civilians to avoid Canfield Mountain due to the fire

Authorities are urging civilians to avoid the area as law enforcement and firefighters tackle the crisis and deal with the ongoing crisis. However, the more stringent shelters have lifted the order.

The agency also dedicated a “no-fly zone” to Canfield Mountain.

“The ongoing incident at Canfield Mountain has designated the area as a no-fly zone, including a strict ban on drone use,” the agency said. “Unauthorized aircraft or drones in this area pose serious risks to fire and law enforcement operations.”

FBI tactical team responds to shooting

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said in a post from X that the tactical team responded to the scene of the shooting.

It remains an active and extremely dangerous scene,” he said.

“At this point, we can see that the Salt Lake City Field Office targeting Idaho is providing assistance. We will be introducing the Cootenai County Sheriff’s Office for further information,” said Sandra Barker, a spokesman for the FBI area.

Attorney General Pam Bondy offered his prayers as federal and local governments responded to the attack. “Thank you to the incredible @FBI agents on the ground who support local governments in Idaho,” she wrote about X.

Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem said in a post by X that the federal agency is “actively monitoring the Kohl Darene scene.”

“Pray for your first responder in Idaho,” she said. “Justice is provided.”

Canfield Mountain is a hiker’s destination

The Canfield Mountain Area, where the shooting took place, is a destination for hikers and mountain bikers.

According to the city of Caeur D’Alene, the Canfield Mountain Natural Area is a 24-acre park. The satellite photo shows a mountain covered with forests.

According to a Forest Service fact sheet, the area has more than 25 miles of trails.

Sheriff Kootenai Norris said at an afternoon press conference that law enforcement is still working to clear the civilian field.

US Senator watching Idaho

US senators Idaho Mike Krapo and Jim Riche said they were monitoring the situation and offered prayers to their first responders and victims.

“I’m monitoring a horrifying report from Coeur D’Alene tonight, and I’m urging local residents to follow law enforcement recommendations,” Crapo said. “My prayers are with the victim and the first responder.”

Riche condemned the attack.

“Vicki and I will join all Idahoans who mourn the heroic first responders who were murdered and others injured in their Cootenai County duties,” he said in a social media statement. “This villain’s attack on those who devote their lives to protecting and serving our community is mean and sleazy, not Idaho.”

Idaho GOP Chair Dorosie Moon said in a statement that she was standing with her first responder and praying for the victim’s family.

“I pray that the shooters will be stopped before more harm is produced. There is Godspeed in the law enforcement officers on the ground,” Moon said.

Where is Coeurd’Alene?

The attack on firefighters took place outside Kohl Dahlene, a small city in northwestern Idaho.

U.S. census data estimates state that the population is over 57,000.

Located in Cootenai County, it is the north part of the Kohl d’Arrane Native American Reservation. According to the latest census estimates, Cootenai is adjacent to Washington state, with over 188,000 people.

How big is the fire?

Authorities said the flames began as a half-acre wildfire.

Authorities said three fire engines were sent to the scene.

Authorities said the fire continued to burn as authorities tried to find a potential shooter.

Chrysler, Lincoln and BMW recall over 500,000 vehicles

0

play

Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued multiple recalls including notifications for more than 250,000 Chrysler vehicles.

Do you want to see if a recall was issued on your car? If the car is not listed below, the owner can either check the USA Today Automotive Recall database or search the NHTSA database to search for new recalls. The NHTSA website allows you to search for recalls based on the vehicle’s identification number (VIN).

Here’s what you need to know about the vehicle recall issued by NHTSA from June 23rd to June 29th:

Chrysler recalls Pacifica and Voyager vehicles for the wrong side airbag

Chrysler reminded me of certain 2022-2025 Pacifica and Voyager vehicles as the side airbags may be broken.

Curtain airbags on the right and left sides of the recalled vehicle may have improperly sealed seams and do not maintain pressure according to NHTSA.

The dealer will inspect and replace the side curtain airbags for free. The first notice describing the safety risk will be sent on June 30th, and a follow-up letter will be sent when the remedy is developed.

Affected vehicles: 250,651

Lincolns recalls the removal of the trim

The Ford Motor Company reminded me of a particular 2020-2025 Lincoln Aviator car.

NHTSA says the recalled vehicle has rear door window bars and c-pillar trim, which is insufficiently glued, so the trim may be off the car while driving.

Dealers are to repair or replace non-compatible trims for free. The first notice describing the safety risk will be sent on July 28th, and a follow-up letter will be sent when the remedy is developed.

Affected vehicles: 132,914

BMW recalls a vehicle with a broken software

BMW reminded the vehicle as it could drive motor software that would cause loss of driving force.

Affected vehicles include:

  • 2022-2025 I4
  • 2022-2024 IX
  • 2023-2024 i7
  • 2024 I5

Drive power loss occurs when the software incorrectly detects “double separation conditions” and causes a shutdown of the high voltage system as a fail-safe measurement.

The software can be updated free of charge in the air or by the dealer. The owner’s notification letter will be mailed on August 5th.

Affected vehicles: 70,852

Chevrolet vehicles reminded of brake fluid leakage

General Motors recalls certain Chevrolet trucks as brake fluid leaks can cause electrical shorts.

2019-2024 Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD trucks may have a brake pressure sensor assembly that is covered under the recall, causing fluid to leak into the brake pressure switch to cause shorter ones.

Owners of recalled vehicles are advised to park outside the structure until the recall repairs are complete.

The dealer is to replace the affected part for free. The first notice describing the safety risk will be sent on July 28th, and a follow-up letter will be sent when the remedy is developed.

Affected vehicles: 62,468

Kias recalls the broken back camera

Kia reminded me of a specific 2020-2022 Niro EV vehicle as the circuit board on the rear camera was damaged and the image of the rear camera was not displayed.

According to the recall report, the damage is caused by voltage surges in the back camera power circuit.

The dealer will replace the rear camera for free, and owner notifications will be mailed on August 19th.

Affected vehicles: 11,327

Subaru reminds me of the Forester, a loose child seat bolt

Subaru reminded me of a certain 2025 Forester as the anchor bolts on the child seat could loosen.

According to the recall report, inadequately tightened bolts may have been caused by inadequate work instructions.

The dealer inspects the anchor bolts on the child seat and tightens them if necessary – free of charge. The notification will be mailed on August 15th.

US trade consultations with Canada’s Scrap Digital Services Tax stagnates

0

play

OTTAWA, June 29 (Reuters) – Canada abolished the digital services tax on U.S. technology companies late Sunday, hours before it took effect to halt trade negotiations with the United States.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Donald Trump will resume trade negotiations to agree to the deal by July 21st, Canada’s Treasury said in a statement.

Trump suddenly called off trade talks over taxes targeting US technology companies on Friday, calling it a “blatant attack.”

He repeated his comments on Sunday, vowing to set a new tariff rate on Canadian goods next week, threatening to bring US-Canadian relations back into chaos after a relatively calm period.

The breakdown of the trade talks said they agreed to close the new economic agreement within 30 days after the two leaders met at the G7 in mid-June.

Canada’s planned digital tax was 3% of digital services revenues earned by companies from Canadian users over $20 million in calendar year, with payments being retroactive until 2022.

It would have influenced US technology companies, including Amazon Amzn.o, Meta Meta.o, Alphabet’s Google Google.o, and Apple Aapl.o.

The collection will be suspended on Monday, with Finance Minister François Philippe Champagne going to file a law to repeal the Digital Services Tax Act, according to a Canadian Treasury statement.

“DST was announced in 2020 to address the fact that many large technology companies operating in Canada may not pay taxes on the income generated by Canadians,” the statement said. “Canadian preference has always been multilateral agreements related to digital services taxation.”

Stock index futures rose after news of digital taxes being cancelled and bullish sentiment leaking to Asian markets.

Canada is the second largest US trading partner after Mexico and the largest buyer of US exports. Last year it purchased $34.94 billion in US goods and exported $412.7 billion to the United States, according to data from the US Census Bureau.

The Biden administration called for tax dispute resolution consultations in 2024, calling them inconsistent with Canada’s North American trade agreement obligations.

Canada has been evading Trump’s broad tariffs imposed in April, but faces a 50% steel and aluminum obligation.

Austrian Grand Prix: Landnoris dodges Oscar Piastri to win the thrilling race after Max Barstappen crashes on the first lap

CNN

Rand Norris held back multiple challenges from McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri and won the thrilling Austrian Grand Prix Sunday afternoon.

Starting in pole position, Britton allowed Norris to take the lead on turn 3 as the McLaren team gives the driver permission to fight it, allowing Norris to take the lead on turn 4.

The Australian was unhindered and tried again after 20 laps, but he was locked up and nearly approached the back of his teammate’s car. McLaren’s team later warned that he was too close for him to clash with Norris, and that was as close as Piastri could get in the rest of the race.

“We had a great fight, that’s certainly true,” Norris later told broadcaster Sky Sports. “It was a lot of fun. It’s a lot of stress for me, but it’s a lot of fun. Great fight, very well done to Oscar.”

As a result, Norris held his teammates’ lead to 15 points at the top of the driver’s championship after a collision at the Canadian Grand Prix two weeks ago that ended Britton’s final race, earning valuable points in the rankings.

“Intense” was a rating for the fight this weekend. “It was pretty tough work from the car so I’m glad I watched it. I tried the absolute best. I probably did a better job when I moved forward just a moment ago, but it was a good fight.”

The first half of the race was dominated by a thrilling battle between two McLaren drivers.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished third, nearly 20 seconds behind Piastri.

The Spielberg drama began before the race began. Carlos Sainz was stuck in the first gear on the grid as he was about to fall off for the formation lap, and was still there when Norris and Piastri came around the final corner and the start was 15 minutes late.

His brakes were lit when Williams’ driver finally began and reached the pits. The Spaniard was unharmed, but his race ended before it began.

Chaos followed the first lap when Andrea Kimi Antoneli collided with Max Verstappen and finished the race for both drivers.

The Italians got turned 3 too quickly, cut across the puck, then went behind Verstappen, and both cars spun out.

“I’m out. I’ve been hit like crazy,” Team Radio’s Verstappen said quickly. “fool.”

Antonelli apologized, telling Sky Sports:

The incident led Verstappen to suffer his first retirement of the season, finishing his scoring streak in 31 consecutive races.

Max Verstappen lost even more ground to the McLaren duo at the World Driver Championship.

Antoneri’s exit meant that Mercedes had dropped to third place in the constructor’s championship position. The team ran out to Ferrari. Ferrari finished first behind his teammate Leclerc and fourth in Lewis Hamilton.

It was also a good day for Kick Thorber. Gabriel Boltret and Nico Halkenberg finished in 8th and 9th place respectively.

China resumes importing seafood from several Japanese regions

0

Reuters

China announced on Sunday that it would soon resume seafood products imported from several Japanese regions, ending an overall ban for almost two years as treated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant is concerned about Japan’s release.

In a notice on Sunday, China’s customs said seafood products from 10 prefectures, including Fukushima, gamma, tochigi, gate, Miyagi, Nagano, Nishidada, Tokyo and Japanese, would still be banned from entering the country.

Other regional products will require a health certificate, a certificate of radioactive substance detection qualification, and a production area certificate issued by the Japanese government for China’s customs declaration, the notice states.

Chinese customs officials said Sunday’s decision came after no abnormalities were detected following long-term and independent sampling and monitoring of discharged wastewater.

In August 2023, China banned all Japanese seafood imports, prompting diplomatic and economic backlash, shortly after Tokyo began to announce the Fukushima wastewater that had been treated.

According to a notice on Sunday, China will strictly oversee Japan’s seafood imports and will take action if it finds violations of relevant Chinese laws, regulations and food safety standards.

Former Brazilian leader Bolsonaro has attracted thousands of supporters to protest his trial on allegedly alleging that he overturns the election

Former Brazilian president, Jia Bolsonaro, attended a public demonstration in Sao Paulo on Sunday, protesting the ongoing Supreme Court trial in the South American country.

Thousands gathered at Paulista Avenue, one of the city’s main locations, and Bolsonaro, known as “Acts for Freedom, Acts for Justice,” held a demonstration before the event.

Bolsonaro and his 33 allies face trial over a conspiracy that is suspected to overturn the 2022 presidential election outcome and maintain power.

They were charged with five counts related to the plan.

The former president has argued and argued that he is a target for political persecution.

If convicted, he could be held in prison for up to 12 years.

“Bolsonaro, come back!” protesters chanted, but the former president is banned from office until 2030.

Brazil’s excellent election court ruled last year that he abused political power and made unfounded claims about the country’s electronic voting system.

BYU QB JakeRetzlaff is likely to face suspension and leave the program

0

play

BYU quarterback Jake Letzraff is likely to leave the program, expecting a seven-game suspension for violating the university’s honor code, according to multiple reports on June 29th.

The move comes from a civil lawsuit filed against Retzlaff in May, claiming that he sexually assaulted a woman at his home. The woman who claims Retzlaff is “raped, strangled, bit” claims she is suing Retzlaff for the intentional effects of battery, assault and intentional emotional distress, seeking at least $300,000 in damages.

Retzlaff’s attorneys denied the claims in response to the lawsuit filed June 28, describing them as “silly and strange.”

Sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, BYU has an honor code that states that students must live a chaste and integral life, including “including abstaining from sexual relations other than marriage between men and women.”

The university previously issued disciplinary action against athletes for premarital sex. Perhaps most notably, in March 2011, the outstanding forward was fired from the college boys basketball team, which was third in the country at the time.

In his first and potentially only full season as a starter for the Cougars, Retzlaff led BYU to an 11-2 mark and victory in the Alamo Bowl against the Deion Sanders and Colorado. Retzlaff has completed 57.9% of his passes for 2,947 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, rushing for 417 yards and six touchdowns.

He attracted national attention across the field as a Jewish quarterback representing a school with an overwhelmingly LDS student population, earning him the nickname “byjew” and a contract for his name, image and likeness with kosher food company Manishwitz.

If Retzlaff leaves, BYU has two other quarterbacks on that roster. McCae Hillstead and Treyson Bourguet transferred to the program from Utah and western Michigan, respectively.

News of Retzlaff’s suspension and possible departures were broken by the Salt Lake Tribune, citing an unknown source who was not allowed to speak publicly about the matter.

Hong Kong’s last democracy to dissolve street protests

0

Hong Kong
AP

The Social Democrats of Hong Kong’s Democratic Party’s League of Political Democrats announced on Sunday that they had dissolved due to immeasurable political pressure, the latest casualty of a longtime crackdown that has already quieted down many of the city’s former local opposition.

After the massive anti-government protests in 2019, many major activists were prosecuted or jailed under the 2020 National Security Act imposed by Beijing. Dozens of civil society groups have been dissolved. A media outlet where the government has been shut down.

The Social Democrats were the only democrats to staged small street protests and held street booth activities to continue defending despite the risks.

Chair Chan Poai-in said the decision to dissolve was made after careful deliberation, especially considering the results of its members and comrades. Chang refused to elaborate on the pressure, but said he was proud that the party had still contributed to the city’s democratic movement in the last few years.

“We remained true to our original desires and had not lost the trust that was placed on us by those who went to prison,” she said. “We are now forced to break up and feel pain in our conscience, but we have no other options,” she said.

Hong Kong, a former British colony, marks its 28th anniversary since it returned to Chinese rule on July 1st. The city was holding its annual democratic protests of the day and various other demonstrations calling for better policies.

However, they stopped after most organizing groups were disbanded and major activists were jailed. Critics say the dramatic political changes under the Security Act reflect the shrinking freedom that Beijing promised to remain in 1997.

The governments of Beijing and Hong Kong have argued that laws are necessary for the city to stabilize. A Chinese official overseeing Hong Kong’s issue in 2023 said the protests were not the only way people could express their views, but informed Beijing’s stance on demonstrations in the city.

Members of the Social Democrats will fight police outside the courtroom of West Kourun Magistrates, ahead of the National Security Trial for Democrat Activists held in Hong Kong on February 6, 2023.

In April, Hong Kong’s largest democrat, Democrats, also voted to give leadership an obligation to move towards a potential dissolution. A party’s veteran told The Associated Press that some members were warned of the outcome if the party was not closed. The final vote will be expected at a later date.

Chang said the principle of “one country, two systems” that Beijing uses to govern Hong Kong has already ended, pointing to the imposition of the Chinese government’s security law and introducing the idea of ”soft resistance.”

“One country, two systems already have one country, one system,” she said.

Founded in 2006, the Social Democrats Federation was a leftist party opposed to what is called a conspiracy between government and business, and supported the principle that people have a voice and are firmly committed to the interests of underprivileged residents.

It was widely known for its more aggressive tactics when fighting for change. The members threw bananas, eggs and lunch meat to officials or engaged lawmakers as gestures of protest. The party’s platform said the group advocated non-violent resistance but would not avoid physical conflict.

There used to be three lawmakers. The longest serving lawmaker, Leung Kwok-Hung – Chan’s husband – was disqualified from Congress in 2017 for his way of taking his oath.

Members were arrested and imprisoned for activism.

On the streets, the group’s activities sometimes led to the arrest and imprisonment of members.

Last year, former party leader Leung and well-known LGBTQ+ activist Jimmy Sham were sentenced to nearly seven years and more than four years in prison for their role in an informal primary under the Cleaning Security Act. Siam was released from prison last month.

In recent years, the party has limited political influence and no longer holds seats in parliament or local district councils. Even banks no longer offer bank account services to groups.

However, despite the activities that sometimes led to arrest, they continued to stage small protests from time to time. On June 12, Chang and the other members were fined after being convicted of street booth activities.

Attached to their beliefs, they continued to loom and protest against the decision outside the court.

Chang wiped out tears at a press conference on Sunday, and finally chanted the slogan with the other members.

She said she doesn’t believe democracy will come in the near future.

“It’s not easy to move forward,” she said. “I hope everyone will be like an Ember, a flying spark. No matter how small it is, it will live on that light and keep it.”

Billionaires shouldn’t exist, says the NYC mayoral candidate

Comments from the progressive candidate come just days after his presumed victory in the Democratic primary over former government Andrew Cuomo.

play

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic primary winner to become mayor of New York City, told NBC News on June 29 that he doesn’t think there’s a billionaire in “Meet the Press.”

Mamdani, a self-identified democratic socialist, was asked directly whether “a billionaire has the right to exist,” replied, “Frankly, I don’t think we should have a billionaire because it’s a lot of money in such an inequality moment.”

The political startup comments come days after his shocking major democratic victory over former New York governor Andrew Cuomo. Mamdani campaigned with a radical vision of rebuilding the city that many saw as the rich and powerful Mecca of the world.

“What we need in the end is equality across cities, states and countries,” Mamdani told Meet the press. “We look forward to working with everyone, including billionaires, to create a fair city for all of us.”

His comments on the wealthiest people travel across the United States on their “Oligarchy of the Battle” tour, as Senators Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senators Bernie Sanders, some of his closest allies.

The New York State Legislature members’ platform has encouraged progressives with plans that include a promise to freeze rent in regulated apartments and make buses free.

He also supports a 2% tax on residents that raises the corporate tax rate to 11.5%, exceeding $1 million a year. But he would not have the authority to raise taxes as mayor.

Mamdani, 33, has not stated plans to take money from the billionaire.

The predominance of the young left candidates surprised the rich, politically active donors. Super PAC Backing Cuomo spent $24 million. Many of them grew up with Trump donors such as hedge fund manager Bill Ackman and real estate executive Stephen Ross, as well as former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Cuomo is expected to remain on the mayor’s vote in November, USA Today reported earlier. Current Mayor Eric Adams will face Mamdani as an independent.

Father chases after her daughter at the moment

The horrifying moment on board a Disney Cruise Line ship becomes an incredible rescue after the child falls overboard and her father jumps after her.

The June 29 incident occurred when Disney’s dream came back to Fort Lauderdale from a four-night Bahamas sailing, including a stop at Disney’s Lookout Cay at the Lighthouse. As first reported on the street, the emergency code “Mr. Mob” (Man Over Board) rang across the ship’s intercom, indicating an emergency response.

“The crew on the Disney Dream quickly rescued two guests from the water,” a Disney Cruise Line spokesman told USA Today in a statement. “We commend the crew for their outstanding skills and quick action. This ensured that both guests could return safely to the ship within minutes. We are committed to the safety and happiness of our guests, and this incident underscores the effectiveness of safety protocols.”

Regarding social media posts from cruisers, he explained the rapid response from the crew who set up Life’s guardians and deployed rescue boats within minutes. In a Facebook post, passenger Kevin Furuta said, “The girl who fell overboard from the fourth deck and her father came in… Thankfully, the DCL rescue team was there right away, and both were saved!”

Despite assuming the ship could have been docked, passengers confirmed that rescue was made while Disney’s dream was cruising between the Bahamas and Florida. Despite the ship’s plexiglass safety barriers, how the child fell overboard remains unknown.

Like many major cruise operators, Disney ships are also equipped with an overboard detection system designed to alert ship crews of such incidents in real time.

Netanyahu says “opportunities have been opened” as Trump demands “trade” Gaza.

0

Jerusalem
CNN

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “many opportunities have been opened” following Israeli military operations in Iran, including the possibility of bringing the remaining hostages home in Gaza.

Speaking at the Sinbet Security Agency facility in southern Israel on Sunday, Netanyahu said: “As you probably know, after this victory, many opportunities were opened up. To save the hostages first. Of course, you will need to solve the Gaza problem and defeat Hamas, but you will need to complete both missions.”

Netanyahu’s comments were one of the first times that explicitly prioritized the return of hostages against Hamas’ defeat.

For several months, Netanyahu prioritized Hamas’ defeat in Gaza and spoke about a “complete victory.” At the beginning of May, he called Hamas “the best purpose” without releasing the hostages.

His comments show potentially a major shift in how he spoke on Sunday about Israel’s goals in the war. He has repeatedly faced criticism from hostages, opposition politicians and families in a large segment of Israeli people, and has not clearly placed the return of hostages as Israel’s main goal.

In response to Sunday’s comments, Hostage Family Forum Headquarters called for a single comprehensive deal to reclaim all 50 hostages and end the battle in Gaza.

“What you need is a release, not a rescue. This difference in a word could mean the difference between hostage salvation and loss,” the forum said in a statement.

Elsewhere in the speech, Netanyahu said “a wider regional opportunity is open.” He said this is a clear reference to Israel’s efforts to expand Abraham’s agreement to normalize relations with several Gulf countries.

Netanyahu’s comments come to make a deal with a ceasefire amid growing pressure from US President Donald Trump on Israel. Since the conflict with Iran ended, negotiators have pushed for the resumption of stagnant negotiations with Hamas in Gaza.

Netanyahu held a high-level meeting in Gaza on Sunday evening to meet some of his closest advisers, including Strategy Minister Ron Dahmer and Defense Minister Israel Katz, to discuss updates on Israeli military operations in the Palestinian Enclave, according to two Israeli sources.

Dahmer is scheduled to hold a meeting with the Trump administration in Washington, D.C. on Monday.

Trump has revealed his desire to end the war in Gaza and secure a ceasefire contract to bring home the 50 hostages Hamas holds. At least 20 people are still alive.

Early Sunday morning, in a social media post, Trump told Israel, “We’re going to make a deal in Gaza. We’ll take hostages back!!!”

Trump previously threw his support behind Netanyahu, accusing his ongoing trial of corruption as a “political witch hunt” – the second time the president calls for an end to prosecution of long-standing Israeli leaders.

The conclusion of the operation in Iran and Trump’s sudden foray into Israel’s legal system – Netanyahu requested this week to postpone his trial session this week.

After rejecting the request twice, the court granted the delay following a secret session in which the judge said there had been changes to the “structure of evidence” compared to previous requests.

The latest proposal from US envoy Steve Witkov calls for a 60-day ceasefire and the release of 10 living and 18 dead hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

During this period, both sides will begin negotiations on a comprehensive ceasefire agreement to end the war. This is a significant demand from Hamas as part of any transaction.

Hamas is seeking stronger assurances about a permanent ceasefire. Until now, Israel refused to agree to a lasting end of the conflict, as it pursued its war goals to destroy Hamas’ ability to govern and Gaza’s disarmament. However, Israel’s success in military operations against Iran may have created a new window into pursuing negotiations. This is an opportunity for negotiators to capitalize.

Despite Israeli forces’ growing operations and new evacuation orders for parts of northern Gaza on Sunday, security sources told CNN that the troops are encouraged to pursue a diplomatic path in Gaza after more than 20 months of combat and the removal of senior Hamas leaders.

More than 56,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes and military operations since the start of the war, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, which does not distinguish between extremists and civilians. That number includes more than 17,000 children, the ministry said.

At least 15 people were killed when Israel was attacked by Jabaraya Al Balad and Jabaraya Al Nazare on Sunday, according to emergency workers in Gaza.

Fares Afana, head of Northen Gaza Emergency Services, told CNN on Sunday evening that between 10 and 15 people remained under the tiled rub.

One of the hit houses was “full of displaced people, and most of them were children,” Afana said.

Paul Simon discards a pair of shows and undergoes surgical procedures for “severe” back pain.

The legendary Simon & Garfunkel Singer (83) shared in an Instagram statement that he had cancelled his performance, set for Saturday, June 28th and Sunday, June 29th, at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia.

“Paul is suffering from chronic, severe back pain,” the statement said. “Today, it became out of control and promptly called for caution. Unfortunately, these shows need to be cancelled.

Simon’s announcement states that he will undergo “minor surgical procedures” in the coming days, but he is “full of hope” and that he will complete the tour and make up for the Philadelphia show. Performance refunds are available at the time of purchase.

The “Troubled Bridge Over Water” hitmaker is now in the middle of his quiet festive tour. He completed his farewell tour in 2018, but announced his return in February.

According to a February tour announcement, Simon “targets severe hearing loss,” and chose “intimate venues” for the show that will begin in New Orleans in April and end in Seattle, Washington.

When he appeared in “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in June, the 16-time Grammy winner explained he had previously “not thought he would be able to perform with other musicians again.”

According to his website, Simon is scheduled to perform in Long Beach, California on July 7th. He then plans to do more shows in California during July before heading to Vancouver and Seattle.

A serious heat wave struck Southern Europe as local governments warned against the risk of wildfires

Major heat waves in Southern Europe have pushed temperatures above 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius) in countries including Italy, Spain and Greece.

Experts have linked the frequency and intensity of these heatwaves to climate change, warning that such extreme weather events are becoming increasingly common in the southern regions of Europe.

A serious heat wave was recorded in Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal before the weekend, with locals and tourists taking shelter from the slower situation.

Two-thirds of Portugal were highly wary of extreme heat and wildfires on Sunday, with temperatures expected to exceed 107 Fahrenheit (42 Celsius) in Lisbon.

In Italy, several regions of Lazio, Tuscany, Calabria, Puglia and Umbria had planned to ban outdoor work activities during the hottest times of the day, in response to record high temperatures. Italian trade unions have urged the government to expand such measures at a national level.

On Sunday, Italian Ministry of Health placed 21 of 27 monitored cities under the highest heat warning, including top holiday destinations such as Rome, Milan and Naples.

In Rome, tourists looked for shade near popular places such as the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain, and used umbrellas to drink from public water fountains to keep them cool.

Similar scenes have been reported in Milan and Naples, with street vendors selling lemonade to tourists and residents to provide a refreshing refreshment from the heat.

People fill bottles with fountains on a hot summer day in Rome near the Vatican on Saturday.

Greece was once again warned of high wildfires due to extreme weather. The first summer heat wave was expected to continue throughout the weekend.

A massive wildfire broke out south of Athens on Thursday, forcing evacuation and road closures near an ancient temple in Poseidon. Strong winds spread flames, damage the house and send smoke into the sky.

Greek authorities deployed 130 firefighters, 12 and 12 helicopters to combat the flames, but police evacuated 40 people and five areas received evacuation orders.

In Spain, locals and tourists were desperately trying to cool this weekend as they were getting hot with temperatures of 107 Fahrenheit (42 Celsius) in southern cities along with other parts of the southern and central Seville.

Spain’s southern region recorded temperatures above seasonal averages, prompting health alerts and safety recommendations from authorities. The country’s National Weather Service AEMET says June is set to break yet another record, and will be the hottest month since the record began.

Experts warned that severe fever can affect daily life, especially for vulnerable populations such as elderly people and children.

Local governments advised physical activity during the hottest times of the day and recommended drinking plenty of liquids.

The Lancet Public Health Study published last year highlights the increased risk of heat-related deaths caused by climate change. The study predicted that fever-related deaths could exceed quadruple up by the middle of the century under current climate policy.

Although more people die colder than heat, the study highlighted that rising temperatures offset the benefits of mild winters, leading to a significant net increase in heat-related mortality.

Tinder is testing the height filter. Sorry, Short Kings.

0

The short king is lifting his arms above Tinder’s controversial new features.

Dating apps have begun testing new features that allow people who pay for the app to filter potential matches based on their height – a move that has sparked online debate about the challenges short men face while dating.

“We’ve always listened to what’s most important to Tinder users. Testing paid high preferences is a great example of how to build with urgency, clarity and focus.” “This is part of a broader effort to help people connect with Tinder more intentionally.”

This feature may be new to Tinder, but it is part of other dating apps like Hinge and Bumble, which have long been offering a height filter for paying users.

Dating and relationship experts say dating can be more difficult for short men, especially apps, when it comes to apps where height filters are overlooked from the bat. This certainly can be a disappointment, but it is important not to lose hope. There are still many ways to meet people who are open to dating a short king.

They also add that daters are open-minded. There’s nothing wrong with preferring to date tall people, but it’s important to ask yourself how important certain traits are to you before turning on filters that eliminate potential matches.

“I understand that preferences matter,” says Amy Chan, dating coach and author of “Breakup Bootcamp: The Science of Your Heart.” “The problem is when you confuse preferences with someone who breaks a contract.”

Male dating coach Blaine Anderson says it’s also important for people to keep their height preferences in mind. For example, at 5’4″ people who want to date tall people probably don’t need a height filter set above 6′.

The challenge of dating as a short man

The news that Tinder is testing the height filter has influenced a social media conversation about the ups and downs of dating a man when your height doesn’t start at “6”.

“Women are not ready for this conversation, but they need to stop filtering on the height of the dating app,” wrote one X user. “I met Kyle on the hinge. He didn’t lie about his height (5’9), so he was ruled out by many women! Many of my friends would have filtered him out! Others cracked jokes.

Some people are like Bodybuilder and Fitness Influant’s Jeff Nippard. As a short man, if a woman doesn’t find you attractive because of your height, why do you want to be with her anyway? ”

Chang speculates that height preferences stem from evolution, dating back thousands of years, when body size and strength were required for survival.

But that’s not the case now.

“Men’s height is culturally related to masculinity, strength and protection,” says Chan. “I’m kidding with my friends and unless you’re planning on taking part in the bar fight, someone with access to a good lawyer will probably be able to protect you more than a tall guy.”

The height filter is from a dating app. What should a short man do about it?

Chang encourages people to find ways to meet people outside of dating apps. Ideally, your personality could shine.

“We know through research that apps filter people very strictly, even if they don’t do that in person,” says Chan. “I always tell my clients to have three different forms of ‘lead generation’. If you are using the app, add two more. Maybe it becomes a hobby of joining a club, meeting other like-minded people, and building relationships and communities over time. ”

Anderson offers similar advice, adding that you should not waste your energy by feeling frustrated with things that Dater has no control over. You can’t change your height, but you can work on other attributes to attract your partner.

“Instead of getting angry or irritated, you embrace reality and control what you can control,” she says. “You can control how many women you approach in a day or week. When you get closer to that person, you can control your wonderful smile and lovely personality.”

And if you’re someone using a height filter, you might want to expand it 1-2 inches and see what happens, Anderson says. You may be surprised by the people you meet.

Turkish police will detain dozens of people at the banned Istanbul Pride March, lawmakers say

0

CNN

Turkish police said that authorities had banned authorities as part of a long-standing clampdown of LGBTQ+ events as at least 30 people in central Istanbul tried to take part in the Pride march on Sunday, according to opposition politicians.

Footage obtained by Reuters showed police brawled with a group of activists who had raised rainbow flags in the city centre before cutting them up and loading them into police vans.

Kezban Konuk, a pro-Kurd Dem MP who attended in March, told Reuters that at least 30 people had been detained.

Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The Istanbul Governor’s Office previously deemed the march illegal and said groups that promote the event were run “illegally.”

Authorities have banned Pride March in Turkey’s largest city since 2015, citing public safety and security concerns.

President Tayyip Erdogan’s Muslim-based AK Party has adopted increasingly harsh rhetoric against the LGBTQ+ community over the past decade.

In January, Erdogan declared 2025 as a “year of family,” describing the LGBTQ+ movement for undermining traditional values, describing Turkey’s declining birth rate as an existential threat.

“The main goal of the gender neutralization policy, which is being used by LGBTs as abuse RAM, is the sanctity of family and family institutions,” Erdogan said in January.

Rights groups have denounced Turkish stance. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have warned that government rhetoric and behavior promote a hostile environment for LGBTQ+ people, contributing to increased discrimination and violence.

Despite the ban, a small group of activists continues to mark Pride Week every year. Organizers say the increasingly aggressive police response reflects Turkish dissent and wider crackdowns on freedom of assembly.

What you need to know about llama voting, Senate voting marathon

The Senate is expected to go through a vote on Trump tax, spending and amendments to the policy package. This is what you need to know about tradition.

play

President Donald Trump’s Major Tax, Expenditure and Policy Legislation Package – A thorough Senate vote begins, centering on the marathon known as the “Voting the Lama” in Washington’s major package.

It’s a time-consuming political theatre centered around many amendments aimed at tweaking key parts of the scale that Trump said was the second term of his signature that he wanted to sign the law by the July 4 deadline imposed voluntarily.

It is rare that any of the amendments are expected to gain sufficient support to add or remove provisions from the bill. However, it is still a rare opportunity for a senator to get votes in almost every subject to approve the entire legislative package before the final vote.

Here’s what you need to know about voting for a llama:

What is a llama vote?

Voters are legislative events that emerged from the 1974 Congressional Budget Act, according to the Senate website.

After discussions regarding budget resolutions or settlement bills, the senators can introduce an unlimited number of amendments for each to receive a vote.

On June 28, Republicans, along with Sen. Susan Collins of R-Maine, proposed various interpretations of the importance of the revision process.

“There are very good changes in the latest version, but we’d like to see more changes,” Collins said.

Collins’ GOP colleague, Sen. Brian Moreno of Ohio, painted another partisan picture for the amendment slow. “I’ve heard that it’s going to be a total nonsense of over 30 hours from the other side, so I hope anyone who remembers this will look at this,” the freshman Republican said on the floor.

The Senate previously defined llamas as the law that allowed voters to vote more than 15 times in a day. Daniel S. Holt, a deputy historian of the U.S. Senate Historical Office, told USA Today in an email that the definition of the Chamber of Commerce was changed to align with its connection to the budget invoice.

“The term is completely colloquial and doesn’t have a solid definition in its official way, but I thought it was more inline with the historical use of the term,” Holt said.

When was your first vote?

The Senate considers it to be the first vote to vote for the budget resolution held on May 12, 1980.

The Chamber of Commerce website states that staff used the term in 1992. It got stuck when Mississippi Republican Whip Trentolot was quoted in 1996 by United Press International using a phrase referring to the event.

How many llamas were there?

The Senate counts 45 votes.

Which votes won the most votes?

The llama vote held on March 13, 2008 holds current records for most amendments voted: 44.

How does llama voting work?

Voting in the llamas’ vote is different than during normal Senate orders.

Senate rules exclude discussions regarding amendments during the marathon of votes, but exempt discussions during the marathon of votes.

According to Hennessy, votes will be voted in a row, and the senators agree to shorten the voting window from 15 to 10 minutes.

Can Senators eat and drink while voting for the llama?

Senate rules prohibit eating on the floor. But the good news is that they don’t have to stay on the floor for the entire lawsuit.

One quirk of precedent allows members to drink milk while in the room. On January 24, 1966, then Sen. Everett Dirksen of R-Illinois, discussing the bill to abolish parts of the Taft-Hartly Act, asked the chairman whether Page could go to the restaurant and come back with milk. Congress records that day show that the Speaker says there is nothing in the rules prohibiting it.

Senators will also be able to access Candy through minutes through “The Candy Desk,” currently being held by Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma. It began in 1965, closest to the busiest entrance of Camber’s busiest entrance, when then Senator George Murphy kept Rozen in order to help ease his throat, sharing it with members of the Senate.

Beyoncé Knowles Carter held a groundbreaking kick-off concert for the “Cowboy Carter” tour in Houston.

The Grammy Award-winning singer began her first concert in her hometown of Houston at NRG Stadium on June 28th at 7:50pm. The show marked her first Southern Stop on her Rodeo Chitlin Circuit Tour with her Cowboy Carter. She is scheduled to hit the stage one more night on June 29th.

Towards the end of the June 28 performance, the vehicle was tilted into the air as Beyoncé sang her hit single “16 Carriage” while she was rising in the red car. She paused the show temporarily, told everyone to “stop” repeatedly, and was safely lowered and landed the car among the audience. There were no injuries.

Shortly afterwards, she returned to the cool, calm and collected stage. She joked, “If I fall, I know you’ll catch me,” and continued the show, closing down as usual.

H-Town Stop comes after Beyoncé wraps her international foot on her tour. First we had a 6 night stint in London, followed by a 3 night in Paris. During the Paris show, she shocked and shocked the fans. Miley Saius and her husband Jay Z were featured for their first and last night’s surprise performance.

Of course, Beyoncé first debuted her “Cowboy Carter” tour at Sophie Stadium in Los Angeles on April 28th with a set list of 39 songs. Her show is filled with family, fashion, and a variety of musical genres, especially country music and cultural commentary. And the same was true for the H-Town Opener Show.

The nine-city tour will host the grand finale in Las Vegas on July 26th, spanning the US and Europe.

Tom Tillis, the key GOP holdout of the Trump Tax Bill, will not seek reelection

play

North Carolina Republican Sen. Tom Tillis is a key hold on President Donald Trump’s radical laws on taxes, Medicaid, border resources and more, and will not seek re-election.

Tillis, who was first elected to the Senate in 2014, said it was “not a difficult choice” and that leaders hoping for a bipartisan solution have become “endangered species” in Washington.

“A lot of my colleagues noticed last year and sometimes joked, so I wasn’t exactly excited to run another semester.

“That’s not a difficult choice and I wouldn’t be looking for reelection,” he said in a statement.

Tillis’ seats on the North Carolina battlefield were already Senate Democrats’ highest target in the 2026 midterm elections. He faced a potentially brutal battle to maintain his seat when the left was pushed back to regain control of the chamber.

After Tillis opposed the advancement of the GOP’s massive domestic policy bill on June 28, Trump threatened to accept potential major challengers in a series of social media posts.

“Tom Tillis is making a big mistake with the amazing people in America and North Carolina!” Trump said on his social media platform, True Social.

Tillis said on June 28 that he could not support the bill as it would likely affect Medicaid and rural hospitals.

“I did homework on behalf of North Carolinians, but I can’t support this bill in its current form. It would bring tens of thousands of dollars of lost funds for North Carolina, including hospitals and rural communities,” Tillis’ statement read.

“This forces the state to make painful decisions, such as eliminating hundreds of thousands of Medicaid compensation in the expanded group and reducing the critical services of people in traditional Medicaid groups,” he added.

The House has approved major changes to Medicaid. Medicaid was expected to save at least $625 billion. This could potentially lose 7.6 million Americans over the next decade. The Senate calls for even deeper cuts, and lawmakers are expected to vote for the push early June 30th.

GOP Senators say babies born within us should be deported if their parents are

play

Republican Sen. Mark Wayne Mullin said he believes that if an adult is taken away, babies of immigrants who live illegally in the country born in the United States should be deported along with their parents.

Mullin’s comments on NBC’s “Meet the Press” paved the way for restricting President Donald Trump’s executive order to take effect in some states in response to questions about the Supreme Court’s decision on Friday.

The court’s decision did not address the legality of Trump’s order, which overturned the historic practice of granting US citizenship to everyone born within the country, regardless of the status of their parents’ immigration.

NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Marin what to do with a baby born in the US, where parents were deported, given that the child is a US citizen under current law.

“Well, they should go where their parents are,” said Marin of Oklahoma. “Why don’t you send your children with their parents? So why do you want to separate them?”

The court’s decision on Friday sparked confusion between immigrants and supporters. He scrambled to understand the actual impact when birthright citizenship applies to babies born in some states but born in other countries.
