Gazan rejects Donald Trump’s evacuation plan

0

play

Gaza, July 8 (Reuters) – Every time Mansoor Abu al-Khair stares at Gaza, a 45-year-old Palestinian man sees death and destruction in a small enclave after nearly two years of war between Hamas militants and Israel.

However, despite the shattering of Palestinian lives in Israel’s airstrikes and heavy artillery bombardment, Al-Kayer and others have completely rejected Israel’s Israeli support program, which would drive away Gaza’s 2.3 million population.

“This is our land. Who will we leave it to, where will we go?” I asked the engineer Alkaier.

Trump, who held Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday, showed progress in the controversial initiative to relocate Palestinians from coastal enclaves, citing “large cooperation from neighboring countries…”.

Netanyahu spoke with reporters at the start of dinner between US and Israeli officials, saying the US and Israel are suggesting that Gazan can move to neighboring countries, working with other countries that will give Palestinians a “better future.”

In his interaction with Trump, Netanyahu said: “Whether people want to stay, they can stay. But if they want to leave, they should be able to leave. It should not be a prison. It should be an open place and give people a free choice.”

He added: “We are working very closely with the US on finding countries that want to recognize that we want to give Palestinians a better future. I think we are approaching finding some countries.”

Asked about Netanyahu’s remarks, UN Human Rights spokesman Rabina Shamdasani told a briefing at a press conference in Geneva.

“This raises concerns about forced relocation, which is very questionable to the concept of voluntary transfer in the context we are currently seeing in Gaza.”

Five days after becoming president in January, Trump said Jordan and Egypt should bring Palestinians from Gaza, but he should suggest that he is open to this being a long-term plan.

Cairo and Amman quickly rejected Trump’s idea of turning poor Gaza into a “Middle Eastern Riviera,” and did so too, Palestinians and human rights groups who said the plan would cleanse the people.

When asked about the evacuation of Palestinians this week, Trump said countries around Israel were helping. “We have been working with a lot from neighboring countries… so something good happens,” Trump said.

Saed, a 27-year-old Gaza Palestinian, woke up plagued by news that Trump and Netanyahu, whose troops flattened most of Gaza, were once again floating the idea of displacement.

Even after more than 20 months of war and repeated internal displacements, he remains deeply attached to Gaza. Gaza is a small, dense strip that is home to a generation of refugees from the war of 1948 that led to the creation of Israel.

“We have the right to leave our free will and visit other countries, but we reject the evacuation plan as Palestinians,” Saed said.

Palestinians have long sought to create independent states in the West Bank of Israel, Gaza and East Jerusalem through the peace process through the United States.

The repeated fear of “Nakba”

Many Palestinians accused Israel of orderly undermining their national outlook by increasing the construction of villages on the West Bank and leveling much of Gaza during the current war.

Israel refuses to file accusations and says it is fighting solely to eliminate Palestinian extremists, poses an existential threat and has historical and biblical roots in the West Bank.

Displacement is one of the most emotional issues for Palestinians who fear the repeat of the 1948 “Nakba” (catastrophe), in which hundreds of thousands of people confiscated their homes at the birth of Israel.

Nakba has been one of the decisive experiences for Palestinians for over 75 years, and in the decades since then it has helped shape and cast a shadow of the national identity in conflicting relations with Israel.

For the Israelites, the creation of their nation was a pleasant moment for many people.

According to Israeli tallies, the Gaza War exploded when Hamas attacked southern Israel in October 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages. Approximately 50 hostages remain in Gaza, with 20 people still alive.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, Israel’s attacks on the Palestinian enclave in the war with Hamas have killed more than 57,000 Palestinians.

Some Palestinians are looking for merciless Israeli airstrikes and severe shortages of food, fuel, medicine and water, according to findings from the Centre for Policy Research in Palestine.

“If possible, almost half would like to leave the Gaza Strip,” the think tank said in its May report.

The proposal seen by Reuters and the proposal to name the controversial US aid aid group explained plans to build a large camp known as “humanitarian transport areas” inside and possibly outside Gaza to house Palestinians.

He outlined his vision to “replace Hamas’ control over the Gaza population.”

As far as Abu Samir el-Fakhawi of Gaza and Palestine is concerned, “I will not leave Gaza. This is my country.”

He added: “Our children who were martyrs in the war are buried here. Our family. Our friends. Our cousins. We are all buried here. Whether it’s Trump or Netanyahu, we will remain on this land.”

Using coconut logs, a torpedo-shaped US naval vessel reversibly fled the Pacific Ocean. The sunken bow was found

0

CNN

The damage to the bow of a US Navy cruiser during the battle of World War II in the Pacific Ocean brings a new light to one of the most notable stories in the history of the service.

More than 80 years ago, USS New Orleans crews, who were attacked by Japanese torpedoes and lost their sailor score, rushed to repair them with coconut logs before a 1,800-mile voyage across the Pacific Ocean.

The front of the ship, or the bow, had been sunk down to the seabed. However, on the weekend there was a Nautilus Live Expedition from the Marine Exploration Trust in 675 metres (2,214 feet) of water with the bottom of the Solomon Islands iron.

Using remote underwater vehicles, scientists and historians will “observe details of the ship’s structure, paintings and anchors and actively identify the wreckage as New Orleans,” the expedition website said.

On November 30, 1942, New Orleans was hit by a bow at Portside at the Battle of Tassafalonga off Guadalcanal According to official naval reports of the incident, the island.

Cruiser USS New Orleans will be seen on February 3, 1943 at the Dry Dock in Sydney, Australia.

The torpedo explosion ignited ammunition in a New Orleans forward ammunition magazine, cutting off the first 20% of the 588-foot warship, killing more than 180 of its 900 crew, records say.

The crew worked to close bulkheads to prevent the rest of the ship’s flooding, and stepped into the port of Tulagi Island, where the crew entered the jungle to get repair supplies.

“The crew obscured the ship from an air attack, and the ju-degree buried the coconut log bow,” the US Navy account said.

According to an account at the National World War II Museum in Louisiana, the ship was steamed in reverse with a makeshift bow.

Retired US Navy Colonel Carl Schuster explained to CNN the incredible skills involved in sailing warships backwards for their extended range.

“The ‘hard’ doesn’t explain the challenge properly,” Schuster said.

The ship’s bow is designed to cut waves, but the stern is not. In other words, the effect of waves means lifting and dropping the valley, he said.

As the stern rises, the rudder bites in the water, making steering more difficult, Schuster said.

And losing the front of the ship changes the centre of the ship’s maneuverability, or its “pivot point,” he said.

“It affects how a ship reacts to the sea and wind, and changes the ship’s response to the ship’s rudder and propeller behavior,” he said.

He said New Orleans officials would have had to learn all new actions and orders on the go to stabilize it and move it in the right direction.

The ingenuity and adaptability that saved New Orleans at the Battle of Tassafaronga helped it into the second half of the war.

USS New Orleans can be found in British waters around June 1934.

After crossing the Pacific Ocean from Australia to the US Navy Yard in Washington’s Puget Sound, this time facing the right way, New Orleans has undergone permanent repairs. He later took part in actions across the Pacific, including the decisive battle between Saipan and Okinawa, and acquired the airfield that allowed the United States to make the final blow in the Imperial Japan.

According to the World War II Museum, the ship was awarded 17 Battlestars for action in the Pacific, and is tied for such decorations, third in the Pacific Theatre.

The New Orleans bow was discovered in a collaborative effort between Nautilus Live’s 21-day Maritime Archaeology, NOAA Marine Exploration, Marine Exploration Cooperative, University of New Hampshire, and Naval History and Heritage Command.

The Iron Bottom Sound was called Sabo Sound before World War II, but the Alliance sailors gave the present Monica for the vast number of warships that sank into battle there.

According to the expedition, five major naval battles took place between August and December 1942, losing more than 20,000 lives, 111 naval ships and 1,450 planes on all sides.

Before the expedition, “less than 100 people were stationed on these US, Japan, Australia and New Zealand military ships and planes,” the website said.

The expedition begins on July 2nd and continues until July 23rd. That continuous search is being streamed live on nautiluslive.org.

The oldest Los Angeles restaurant to close in 117 years

LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles’ oldest restaurant is set to close with the latest blow to the historic dining scene of Angel City.

Cole’s French dip will be closed on August 3rd after 117 surgery, including the ban, two world wars and the rise of Hollywood.

The news was first reported by DTLA Weekly and confirmed by USA Today on a visit on July 7th.

Owner Cedd Moses cited the continued impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the 2023 writers and actors in a statement provided to the Los Angeles Times, from rising labor and rent costs.

“The reason for the closure is not unique to Cole alone. They have an impact on most independent restaurants in Los Angeles,” Moses said in a statement.

USA Today reached out to Heart With Heart, the parent company of Cole’s, which operates other restaurants in California, Colorado and Texas, and received no immediate response.

The restaurant follows the recent closure of the original pantry, which closed in March 101 years later, and the demolition of the Pacific Dining Car in the same month.

“By the time the Olympics come here, all these moms and pops will be gone,” Moses said in a statement. “Hopefully it’s awakening call for the right people to step up and get a grasp of their plans.”

Restaurants intertwined with Los Angeles history

Coles was opened in 1908 by Harry Cole at the Pacific Electric Building.

“Situated near the city’s financial center, this location has become a haunt of bankers, lawyers, newspapers, politicians and more respectable people,” writes Steve Harvey of the Los Angeles Times about the restaurant’s early days in 2009.

It was closed before being purchased in 2007 at Moses’ 213 Nightlife.

The company has completed a $1.6 million restoration focused on maintaining the historic environment.

“There’s no more Mickey Cohen, which is too bad,” Harvey wrote. “You can imagine a gangster praising the bartender’s handiwork with an ice pick.”

Built in a former storage room, Varnish, opened in 2009 and redefines the Los Angeles nightlife scene. The bar was closed in 2024 with the haunting of Jonathan Gold, a dean of Los Angeles food writer.

Cole’s claims of French dip invention challenged

It is one of two restaurants in Los Angeles and claims to be the founder of French dip sandwiches. The other is the original Philip is less than two miles from Cole.

Cole’s claims in 1908 the chef soaked sandwiches in Aus Juss and the gum softened it for bad customers.

Fillepe’s claims that in 1918, Philip Matthew dropped French rolls into a juice-filled roasting pot. The officer took the sandwich and returned with a friend the next day to order more.

However, Phillepe’s offers various versions of that claim, with co-owner Marksengill saying in a 2014 episode of “Cheap Eats” that the sandwich was born in 1917 when Mathieu dropped a roll while making sandwiches for firefighters.

In 1951, Matthew told the Los Angeles Times that the story of the police officers currently on offer at the restaurant is half the story.

“One day, a police officer asked if they could split one of these big breads and fill it up with ‘some delicious roasted pork’,” Matthew said.

The dip portion came later.

“One day, a customer saw gravy at the bottom of a large pot of roasted meat. He asked if I was concerned about soaking one side of the French roll in the gravy. I did.

The debate over who invented the French dip and who made a better sandwich was a long-term part of Los Angeles food culture.

The March 2016 thrillist delves deep into the origins of Sandwich Point, where Matthew’s 1951 narrative is the most likely origin story.

“Big Beautiful Building” makes sense for 88% of Social Security Benefits

0

play

Many people, including President Donald Trump and many members of Congress, are excited about what they call “a big beautiful bill.” Others are not happy at all. Part of the problem is that while some of them may look beautiful, they have meaningful flaws.

Consider social security. The White House issued a statement on July 1, “under one big beautiful bill, the majority of seniors (88% of all seniors who received Social Security) will not pay taxes on Social Security benefits, according to a new analysis by the Council of Economic Advisors.”

Let’s see if you’re among the 88% and if you should be happy about it. (Spoiler: You might want to clean up confetti and noise maker.)

Read more about “One Big Beautiful Bill” on Social Security

So it certainly sounds fantastic that 88% of Social Security recipients are exempt from taxation on their benefits. But here are some things you need to know:

  • According to the same White House statement, 64% of seniors over 65 collecting Social Security are already Various exemptions and deductions allow you to exempt from taxing benefits. So this is not a new exemption to bring people eligible from 0% to 88%. Instead, they are simply increasing the number of people who don’t face taxes on Social Security benefits.
  • That 88% figure is nowhere near the 100% Trump had implied in his previous promise when he said, “Not any taxes, no social security taxes, or no overtime taxes.”
  • To be clear, the bill does not rule out taxes on social security. Instead, they create a new deduction that reduces some of the profits that are subject to federal taxation. In many cases, it reduces it to zero.
  • The deduction is $6,000 per person for eligible people.
  • It is set to expire in 2028. At this point, the percentage of seniors who are escaping this tax will likely return to about 64%.

It is also worth noting that this is all related Federal Government Social Security benefits taxation. 9 states Social Security for Tax To some extent. But it is often done with light hands, and many people in those states will not pay taxes at all.

Who qualifies for the new tax credit deduction?

According to a version of the bill approved by the Senate on July 1, the tax credits for those over 65 years old and older will apply to people with individual adjusted gross income (MAGI) of up to $75,000, or married couples who submit in conjunction with MAGIs of up to $150,000.

The deduction will be reduced for those with income above these thresholds, and if their income reaches $175,000 for an individual, it will be $0 when a married couple has jointly filed it at $250,000.

What are the good and bad about the new low taxation?

On the surface, this seems like good news, even if that doesn’t apply to everyone. For many people Intention Getting a deduction is difficult to argue about reducing your tax payments.

However, these are as follows: The social security surplus turns into a deficit, and is estimated to be 2034. There is multiple ways to resolve the issue, so this unwelcome scenario doesn’t have to occur.

However, at this point, there has been relatively little talk of strengthening social security. Instead, it can be weaker – because if fewer older people pay taxes on their benefits, it means there is less money flowing into social security funds. This could cause the deficit appearance to move faster than in 2034, resulting in older people receiving less than 81% of their profits.

So, offering a tax deduction sounds good, but the whole picture is very worrying. As my colleague Adam Levy argued, what really seems to be happening is that Trump and Congress cannot protect Social Security.

Patrick Bailey hits a walk-off home run in the car park with Giants’ victory

How about an internal home run at the park to close out the baseball viewing that day?

That’s exactly what San Francisco Giants’ Patrick Bailey went late on Tuesday, July 8th. His team visited the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 at the bottom of the nine innings, with Bailey hitting a long drive from Phillies pitcher Jordan Romano at right-center field. Ball made a crazy carom from the asymmetrical outfield wall at Oracle Park and rolled the warning track as Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh chased.

Watch this thrilling play:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwtrngn9d5u

A leadoff double by Casey Schmidt was followed by Wilmer Flores’ singles, bringing Bailey’s dramatic heroic stage and a 4-3 victory. The victory was the Giants’ fourth straight set, lifting the team’s record to 51-42. He finished second in the NL West, losing five games after five games after the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Bailey’s walk-off inside hoodie was reminiscent of a single hit by the Giants’ Angel Pagan at the same stadium in 2013. Pagan’s hit ball took a similar trajectory to Bailey’s hit, bounced off the field wall in the middle right and rolled down the warning track as the outfielder chased after an unexpected bounce.

The latest walk-off home run for the park’s internal home run came on August 19, 2016, when Cleveland’s Tylernakin competed against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Germany blames China for lasers targeting EU mission aircraft

0

Berlin
Reuters

Germany summoned the Chinese ambassador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday after saying that Chinese troops targeted German aircraft participating in European Union operations in the Red Sea.

Flare amidst the tensions are due to growing concern over the EU regarding China’s impact on key European technologies and security infrastructure.

“It is completely unacceptable to put German staff at risk and disrupt the business,” said the German Foreign Ministry on Social Media Platform X.

There was no immediate response from China’s Foreign Ministry, and the Chinese embassy in Berlin did not immediately respond to email requests for comment.

The German Ministry of Defense said the aircraft that took part in the EU’s aspiring mission to protect international sea routes in the Red Sea had contributed to a multi-sensor platform, or “flying” for regional reconnaissance after October.

Chinese warships encountered several times in the region targeted the aircraft during regular mission flights without any reason or prior communication, a provincial spokesperson said. The incident took place in the beginning of July.

“With the use of lasers, warships put the safety of personnel and materials at risk,” the spokesman said, with mission flights being halted as a precautionary measure and the aircraft safely landing at a base in Djibouti.

The deployment of MSPs in Aspides has since resumed, he said.

The MSP is run by a private commercial service provider and is engaging with German military personnel, adding that the data collected has contributed significantly to the awareness of the partners.

China has previously denied accusations of US fire or pointing lasers. The incident involving European NATO members and China is even more unusual.

In 2020, the US Pacific Fleet said Chinese warships fired lasers on US Navy patrol aircraft flying in airspace above international waters west of Guam. China said it was not in line with the facts.

Elon Musk Ai Chatbot Grok praises Hitler

Elon Musk’s Grok Ai chatbot praised Hitler, used anti-Semitic phrases and attacked users with traditionally Jewish surnames.

On July 8, the user reported that he would get an ominous phrase after entering a question into the chatbot.

“We are aware of recent posts created by Grok and are actively working to remove inappropriate posts,” Grok’s maker Xai said on the X social media platform. “Since recognizing the content, Xai has taken action to ban hate speech before posting to X.”

“Xai just wants the truth, and thanks to the millions of X users, we can quickly identify and update models that can improve training,” says Xai.

Musk, a Tesla billionaire and former adviser to President Donald Trump, said in June he would retrain his AI platform after expressing his dissatisfaction with the way Grok answered questions. The artificial intelligence company released a new version of the AI chatbot over the weekend.

Musk said Grok has “a significant improvement” and that users “recognize the difference” when asked questions.

This is not the first time Grok has fallen out of the script.

In May, chatbots began cultivating “white genocide” in South Africa with unrelated conversations. At the time, Xai said the incident was the result of “illegal changes” to the code.

According to MUSK-Forbes, the world’s wealthiest person with a net worth of $400 billion – spent about $290 million to help Trump and other Republicans get elected. In the first months of Trump’s second term, Musk led efforts to cut federal agencies through government efficiency, or through clumsy.

10 charged with Independence Day ambush in an ice detention facility

A group of at least 10 people attacked an ice detention facility in Texas, leaving one officer with a bullet wounded in the neck. A newly announced court filing reveals what has invaded the attack.

play

Ten people have been charged with in connection with a coordinated attack on U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) facilities in Texas, and police officers have injured bullets in the neck, Justice officials announced on July 8.

The group launched an attack on the Prairiland Detention Center outside the Dallas-Fort Worth area on July 4, according to a federal court filing. They started by wearing “black military style clothes” and setting up fireworks at the facility, the US lawyers’ office said.

The attackers have worn body armor, two-way radio and an AR-style rifle, prosecutors said. They fired dozens of rounds at the facility and left after covering buildings and cars with graffiti slogans such as “Traitor” and “Ice Pig.”

“Undoubtedly, this was not a peaceful protest,” said Nancy E. Larson, representing the Northern District of Texas, where the lawsuit was filed. “This was an ambush of federal and local law enforcement officials. This growing trend in violence against law enforcement is not tolerated in the Northern Texas region.”

According to White House officials, the Independence Day attack near Alvarado, Texas, came amid a 700% increase in assault on immigrant agents. The recent attacks include members of the accused Tren de Aragua gang throwing a female ice agent onto the ground and suffocating her in Nebraska, court documents said.

There are also attacks on immigration officers as President Donald Trump has increased his massive deportation campaign and seen masked agents terrorize suspects across the country. Executives say bold tactics are needed to fight back what is called “invasions” of immigrants.

An officer from the Alvarado Police Station was shot in the head in the attack and flew to a nearby hospital, city police chief Teddy May said. He’s “welling well,” May said.

“Sometimes we get lucky and we take it,” a top police officer told USA Today. “When you hear someone being treated and released, you can think that wasn’t much, but it tells you that it was far from the case.

Ten defendants in the attack near Alvarado, Texas are: Cameron Arnold. Savannah Batten; Nathan Bauman; Zachary Evetts; Joy Gibson; Bradford Morris; Marisera Ruda; Seth Sykes; Elizabeth Soto; and ines soto. They are all Texas residents, court filings have been shown.

The charges against them are three counts of federal officer attempted murders and three counts of using firearms in committing violent crimes.

We were unable to reach the group’s lawyers.

Attack on Independence Day

The attack began around 10:30pm, when the attackers fired about 30 rounds at Officer Alvarado, and two officers working at the scene and at the federal facility called and ended.

The federal complaint said the facility began by firing fireworks and plastering graffiti on at least one building connected to the facility.

Investigators discovered multiple AR-style rifles in attackers, two-way radios, and 12 sets of body armor. Authorities believe there are 12 attackers. Police Chief Alvarado may have declined to comment on the investigation into the additional perpetrators.

Morris, one of the 10 people arrested, told police he met the group online, and according to the Justice Department he agreed to drive from Dallas to “make noises” at the facility.

Police also found that the group read “fighting ice horror in class wars” and “free all political prisoners,” authorities said.

They also found a device that is used to block signals on mobile phones known as Faraday bags. The device is “commonly used by criminals to prevent law enforcement from tracking location information,” court documents say.

The federal Bureau of Investigation search, where one of the attackers’ apartments discovered “anti-government propaganda,” authorities said. Among the flyers was titled “Organization for Attack! Rebellion Disorder.”

“The violence, the threat of violence, and attempted vandalism in our ice facilities will not prevent ICE officers from performing their duties,” said Josh Johnson, director of the Immigration Agency’s Dallas office. “This type of vigilante lawlessness represents the dangers federal, state and local law enforcement officials face every day.”

What do you know about the facility?

The facility at the heart of the attack is located about 40 miles southwest of Dallas and is the latest in the Department of Homeland Security, according to Chavez & Barco, an immigration law firm based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

According to a fact sheet issued by the law firm, it is one of four immigration detention facilities in Texas and was built to house more than 700 detainees.

The immigration officer did not respond to a request for comment.

An unprecedented surge in violence

The July 4 attack in Texas comes as White House officials say attacks on immigration agents have increased by 700%. Management officials refused to answer USA Today questions about the number of injuries and their severity, which underlie the increase. However, DHS told Fox News that there have been 79 agent attacks since Trump took office until June 30, compared to 10 attacks over the same period a year ago.

Many of the attacks came as immigration authorities deploy new tactics to implement the president’s drastic, massive deportation plan.

Police experts say that an aggressive approach is causing unnecessary and dangerous encounters.

Bystander video captured the suspect on the ground on crowded streets and caught the suspected agent chasing the farm. One widely circulated video showed an agent grabbing a US citizen by his neck in a Walmart parking lot, resisting taking it. Federal prosecutors charged the man with assault after he was allegedly punched an agent.

Promising to deport one million immigrants this year, Trump has ordered US immigration and customs enforcement agents to “protect all their strengths to achieve the very important goal of providing the largest deportation program in history.”

Attaching resistance to ice agent

However, there is an increasing number of pushbacks from the public. Recent immigration in the Los Angeles area has sparked widespread protests and small riots downtown as people threw rocks at law enforcement, set patrol vehicles on fire, and federal agents responded with tear gas and pepper spray.

In some cases, federal agents are trying to film games with crowds and stop or stop what they think is enthusiastic detention, especially if masked agents refuse to identify themselves.

“The aggressive police tactics employed by the federal government are causing problems,” said longtime police superintendent Diane Goldstein, who is currently leading the law enforcement litigation partnership.

She added: “Their direction and their leadership put them directly in a horrifying situation.”

The EIU, a sister organization to The Economist magazine, ranked 173 cities around the world on a number of factors, including healthcare, education, stability, infrastructure and environment.

Copenhagen triumphed after receiving “perfect” scores for stability, education and infrastructure, while Vienna tied for second place with Swiss city Zurich.

Australia’s Melbourne retained its fourth place spot, while Switzerland’s Geneva was fifth on the list.

Just outside of the top five, Sydney, Australia moved up the list, jumping from joint seventh place to sixth, while Japanese city Osaka and New Zealand’s Auckland tied for seventh place.

In ninth place, Adelaide was the third Australian city to make the top 10, while Canada’s Vancouver took the number 10 slot.

Austria's Vienna fell to joint second place on the world's most liveable cities for 2025 ranking after receiving lower scores for stability this year.

So why did Vienna fail to come out on top this year?

Although the Austrian city scored well in most categories, its score in the stability category fell significantly, while Copenhagen scored highly in all sections.

The “sharp decline” in Vienna’s stability score was attributed to recent incidents, including a bomb threat at a Taylor Swift concert last summer, which led to the event being canceled.

“Global liveability has remained flat over the past year, and as in 2024, scores for stability have declined at a global level,” Barsali Bhattacharyya, deputy industry director at EIU, said in a statement.

“Pressure on stability has led Vienna to lose its position as the most liveable city after a three-year stint.”

Sunbathers at Geneva Lake in Geneva, which has been named one of most liveable cities in the world.

However, Vienna wasn’t the only city that received lower marks for a category it had previously scored well in.

Calgary, which took fifth place in 2024, dropped out of the top 10 this year, falling to 18th after receiving a lower healthcare score, along with three fellow Canadian cities, due to a “strain” on the country’s healthcare system.

Toronto also placed lower this year, as a result, falling from 12th to 16th place.

“That’s really just reflecting the long waiting lists for medical checkups,” Bhattacharyya tells CNN Travel. “There’s been a shortage of staff at medical facilities and hospitals.”

Bhattacharyya stresses that other parts of the world have also been experiencing pressures on healthcare systems and housing infrastructure, but Canada “stood out” because of the sustained impact of these factors.

“Just to put that into context, they’re still some of the most livable cities in the world,” she adds.

Honolulu, Hawaii was the highest US city on the list, coming in 23rd place.

“We’ve seen a trend where sort of smaller or medium-sized cities in the US actually do a lot better than the really big cities like New York or LA,” explains Bhattacharyya. “And that’s largely because of the strains on public services infrastructure.”

Meanwhile, UK cities London, Manchester and Edinburgh also moved down the rankings after receiving lower scores in the stability category.

This follows a period of rioting and unrest in the UK last year after an anti-immigrant misinformation campaign stoked outrage over a stabbing attack in Southport, northern England.

This year’s list saw London drop from 45th to 54th place, Manchester from 43rd to 52nd and Edinburgh moving from 59th to 64th.

Melbourne was one of three Australian cities in the top 10 of the ranking of world's most liveable cities.

“As in 2024, stability scores have declined for western Europe and the Middle East and North Africa,” adds Bhattacharyya.

“In this edition, they have also declined for Asia, amid intensified threats of military conflict for cities in India and Taiwan.”

While some destinations fell down the list, others made significant gains, with Saudi Arabia’s Persian Gulf city of Al Khobar jumping 13 places from 148th to 135th.

The kingdom has made considerable investments to improve healthcare and education access under Vision 2030, an extensive plan to diversify its economy and reduce its dependence on oil.

Indonesia’s Jakarta also moved up the list, jumping 10 places from 142 to 132 thanks to an improvement in its stability core.

Unsurprisingly, the rankings at the very bottom of the list haven’t changed much in the past year, with Damascus, Syria still ranking as the least liveable in the world six months after the fall of ex-president Bashar al-Assad. Libya’s Tripoli ranked just above it.

Bangladesh capital Dhaka was third from bottom, while Pakistan’s Karachi and Algeria’s Algiers were ranked as the fourth and fifth least liveable cities.

While 2024 saw global liveability rise “fractionally,” this certainly hasn’t been the case this year.

“This is because of the declines in stability,” explains Bhattacharyya. “Because we have seen improvements in categories like healthcare and education, largely led by cities in the Middle East. But that has basically been offset by declines in stability.”

Diddy Team claims legal victory in Lampos sexual assault lawsuit in April

A week after Shaun “Diddy” Combs escaped top accusations in a federal criminal trial, the attorney for the music producer who fought claims victory in a sexual assault case against him.

On July 8th, New York Supreme Court Judge Leslie Stro announced a ruling that narrowed the scope of a civil lawsuit against a comb accused of sexual assault and battery in May 2024 by a woman named April Lampos.

According to court documents obtained by USA Today, Stroh agreed to Combs’ request to dismiss a claim in cases found to have occurred before December 19, 2000 before the Gender Motivation Violence Act came into effect in New York City.

Lampoulos had argued for four unnecessary sexual advances from Combs, including rape in 1995, sexual assault in 1996, forced sexual performance and rape in 1998, and sexual assault in an apartment in the end of 2000 or early 2001.

In a bid on August 19 to dismiss Lampos’ case, Combs’ attorney said “he filed this unfounded lawsuit more than 20 years after the end of her romantic relationship with Mr. Combs,” adding “Each of her false claims is lacking in her face and must be dismissed.”

Combs has maintained his innocence in response to at least 70 sexual assault cases, detailing allegations of cases dating back to the 1990s. The 55-year-old music producer and businessman convicted of prostitution on July 2nd, has been jailed since September in a recently wrapped criminal case.

He will be declared on October 3rd.

Diddy Accuser’s lawyer says, “It’s total steam.”

In a statement to USA Today, Lampros’ attorney Tyrone Blackburn confirmed that “the only claim against Sean Combs is the current (New York City Gender-Motivated Violence Act) claim.”

Blackburn notified Combs’ planning team of plans to step down the mogul within two months, and said he would “meet the demands of discovery” in the case within a day. “It’s total steam – playtime is over,” he said.

In a statement, Combs’ team said the ruling indicates his claim to dismiss the case of “winning” the case.

Combs’ team also said “the court’s decision does not address their truth as there has yet to be an opportunity to contest these false allegations.”

April Lampoulos’ lawsuit alleges Diddy assaulted her from 1995 to 2001.

Lampoulos, a former student at the New York Institute of Fashion Technology, is said to have raped her many times.

Earlier this year, Lampoulos retracted three of four causes of its four actions: battery, sexual assault, and violation of negligence in emotional distress. She also dismissed the company named as defendants: Bad Boy Records and Arista Records of Sony Music are allegedly working at the time of the attack.

The legal development came shortly after Combs’ landmark sexual offence trial in Manhattan Court, closing with a split verdict on July 2nd in which he committed two modes of transportation engaged in prostitution. The Grammy-winning rapper was acquitted of Latteering’s most serious offence, with the sex trafficking pair counting.

Despite not being convicted of the most prison-time charge of accusations, Combs was denied bail by US District Judge Arun Subramanian hours after the verdict was handed down. The judge partially cited Combs’ history of domestic violence when he explained the reasons for his decision.

Comb is facing up to 20 years in prison for accusations of convicted. However, prosecutors said the sentencing guidelines would ultimately serve him only 51 to 63 months in prison. Meanwhile, the defense said the guidelines would be exposed to him for up to two years.

Minnesota Senator was injured in fatal shooting from the ICU: Report

0

play

Minnesota Sen. John Hoffman has been released from hospital, according to multiple reports after being shot nine times in June by a gunman suspected of killing another lawmaker and his spouse.

Hoffman was released from hospital intensive care units and moved to a rehabilitation facility, where his family said in a statement to several media outlets on July 7. Hoffman’s family shared photos of the senator and gave a thumbs up while standing in front of a hospital room with a suitcase.

“John has been moved to a rehabilitation facility, but there is still a long way to go to recover,” the family said in a statement, according to the Associated Press, CNN and MPR News.

A spokesman for the Hoffman family did not immediately respond to a request for comment on USA Today on July 8th.

He was stanced as a law enforcement officer to access the homes of victims in the Minneapolis area at the time before dawn on June 14th. Authorities later said Vance Bolter, 57, shot Hoffman and his wife Yvette multiple times, leaving them seriously injured inside their home.

Authorities also accused Boerter of going to another state legislator’s house, and denounced elected officials of vehicles that fit a vehicle similar to a police squad vehicle. He was unable to contact the two officials and then went to the home of Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark.

Authorities say Belter killed both of them and seriously injured the dog. Authorities call the attack a targeted “political assassination.”

What happened to Minnesota Sen. John Hoffman and his wife?

According to a 20-page affidavit filed in federal court, at about 2am on June 14, Bolter drove to Hoffmans’ house in Shamplin about 20 miles northwest of Minneapolis. He changes the black SUV with emergency lighting and fake license plates, resembling a police team, the affidavit says.

According to the affidavit, video footage from Hoffmans’ home showed Bolters approaching the door while wearing a disguise that included a black tactical vest, a flashlight and a flesh-colored mask that covered the entire head. He knocked on the door and screamed repeatedly. “This is police. Please open the door,” the affidavit states.

According to the affidavit, John and Yvette Hoffman came to the door and Belter said he was there inside the house in response to reports of the shooting. After a brief exchange, Yvette Hoffman looked closely at Boerter and noticed that he was wearing a mask.

Upon realizing this, the affidavit states that “one or both of Hoffmans” told Bertert that he was not a real police officer. In response, Belter said, “This is a robbery,” according to the affidavit.

Yvette Hoffman later told authorities that her husband tried to push Boerter back into the front door, but Boerter shot him multiple times before pointing the gun at her, the affidavit says. At about 2:06am, Hoffman’s adult daughter called 911 to report that her parents had been shot by a masked gunman.

Shooting suspect faces federal, state accusations

Investigators say Bolter “experienced research” and planned the June 14 attack. According to the affidavit, he reportedly compiled a list of mostly democratic state lawmakers and their addresses and purchased a cache of weapons.

Belter was arrested on the night of June 15th after a fierce manhunt and remained in custody without bail. He faces state and federal charges in connection with attacks that include multiple numbers of murders and stalkers.

Although authorities have not provided any motivation, Minnesota Gov. Tim Waltz said the shooting “seems to be a politically motivated assassination.” Officials across the country also condemn the incident, calling it an act of political violence targeting elected officials.

Prosecutors said Bolter’s murder amounted to a “political assassination” and that he could face the death penalty if he was convicted of federal charges in the shooting. Minnesota abolished the death penalty for a century, but federal murder charges owes the greatest punishment of the death penalty.

Barbie has announced that model Lila Moss and Peloton instructor Robin Arzon will be honored with new dolls.

play

Barbie aims to expand inclusiveness with the launch of her first doll with type 1 diabetes.

Part of Barbie’s Fashionista Line, dolls are fully equipped with continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps and other features to represent those diagnosed with chronic disease.

The brand partnered with Breakthrough T1D, a former JDRF, a research organization for diabetes, to create the doll. Barbie said in the release that it is also donating dolls to the Breakthrough T1D 2025 Children’s Congress.

“Introducing Barbie dolls with Type 1 diabetes is a critical step in our commitment to inclusion and expression,” said Krista Berger, senior vice president at Barbie and Mattel’s Global Head of Dolls, in the release. “Barbie helps shape children’s early perceptions of the world. By reflecting medical conditions like T1D, we allow more children to see themselves in the stories they imagine and dolls they love.”

What does a new diabetic doll look like?

According to the release, Barbie used the groundbreaking T1D to ensure that the doll accurately reflects the medical device.

Type 1 diabetes dolls include:

  • A continuous glucose monitor (a small wearable device that measures a person’s blood sugar level) is located on the doll’s arms and can help you manage type 1 diabetes. The heart-shaped medical tape holds the device in place and she also has a phone that displays a CGM app that helps track your blood sugar levels.
  • The insulin pump – a small wearable medical device that allows automated insulin administration if necessary – is attached to the doll’s waist.
  • A matching skirt with blue polka dot top and ruffles as a nod to the symbol that represents diabetes recognition.
  • A pastel blue wallet for carrying essentials such as type 1 diabetes supplies and snacks.

What is diabetes? What are Type 1 and Type 2?

According to Mayo Clinic, diabetes is a condition that can cause excess sugar in the blood. It can include chronic diseases such as type 1 and type 2, or potentially reversible types such as gestational diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes often begins in childhood or someone’s teenager, but it can begin at any age. Type 2 diabetes is prevalent among the two, and is more common in people over the age of 40.

Barbie’s Honorary Lila Moss, Robin Arzon and Type 1 Diabetic Doll

Barbie also recruited two big names to promote the new Type 1 diabetes doll.

In the release, the company announced that it would honor model Lila Moss and Peloton instructor Robin Arzón with new dolls. Both moss and arzones have type 1 diabetes.

In a statement, Arzon said she hopes the dolls will help children to “show us that all sorts of challenges will advance us and give us more reasons to achieve our dreams.”

Moss also called the honor “both surreal and special.”

How to get a Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes

New Barbie dolls with type 1 diabetes are now available. The company said in its release that its retail price is $10.99.

The new product is available at select retailers, including Walmart and Amazon, and costs $10.99 each.

Those interested in purchasing a new doll can find where to buy on the Mattel website.

Flash floods are surprisingly powerful. This is why they are so deadly.

0

play

Floods in Texas appeared quickly, quickly becoming deadly, showing just how powerful and powerful flash floods were.

Surprisingly, it only takes 6 inches of water moving rapidly to knock you down from your feet. According to Weather.com, water flowing at just 6 mph gives the same force per unit area as air blows at wind speeds in an EF5 tornado.

Water moving at 25 mph has the equivalent pressure to wind blowing at 790 mph, which is faster than the speed of sound.

Below is what you need to know about these incredible forces of nature and how you can prepare.

What is a flash flood?

Flash floods are rapid rises in water along streams or along low-lying urban areas, the Meteorological Department says. Flash floods are the result of repeated numerous thunderstorms in the same area, or slow moving thunderstorms caused by heavy rain associated with tropical cyclones.

“These floods can occur within minutes depending on the intensity of the rainfall, topography, soil conditions and underground cover,” the Meteorological Department said.

The July 4 flood disaster caused extreme flooding in Texas Hill Country around 4am as thunderstorms dumped more than 10 inches of rain across parts of the area. Relentless rain overwhelmed the Guadalupe River, surged over 26 feet within an hour, Texas Lt. Colonel Dan Patrick said.

Beware of your car

Generally, most US flash flood deaths occur in vehicles where people try to run through flooded water and eventually get them owned. This led to a well-known slogan urging weather services to “Turn around, don’t own.”

The national 30-year average of flood deaths is around 127 per year, with weather department data showing that almost half of all flash flood fatalities are vehicle-related. The majority of the victims are male, and flood deaths affect all age groups.

“If a vehicle is floating, the flood becomes a steering wheel. If the water is moving, the vehicle can be cleaned, tilted sideways, or flipped over.”

And according to FEMA:

  • 6 inches of water reaches the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control and potential stall.
  • A foot of water floats many vehicles.
  • A two-foot rush will carry away most vehicles, including SUVs and pickups.

Please let me know about the weather

A mobile phone or weather radio is an important part of maintaining incoming bad weather.

“Weather awareness can save your life in flash floods,” Bells said in an online report.

Beware of wireless emergency warnings (WEAs) on your phone, in addition to apps from your favorite weather providers such as The Weather Channel and Accuweather. “Government partners include local and state public safety agencies, FEMA, FCC, the Department of Homeland Security and the National Weather Service,” the Weather Service said.

Other flash flood safety tips

Some important tips to keep you safe in the event of flash floods:

  • If you get caught up in a flood, head straight to the highlands.
  • Do not walk or drive through floods.
  • If you encounter rising water, “Look, don’t own.”

Members of the Canadian military among four people charged with “extremist” conspiracy to seize Quebec’s land

CNN

Four Quebec men, including two active members of the Canadian Army, have been arrested and charged with what Canadian police say is a case of “ideologically motivated violent extremism.”

The three men in their mid-20s “were intended to forcefully own the land in the Quebec city area,” and “we had planned to create an anti-government militia,” the Royal Canadian Police (RCMP) said in a statement Tuesday.

“To achieve this, (three men) participated in military style training, filming, ambushing, survival and navigation exercises,” the statement continued. “They also conducted reconnaissance operations. They are said to have been used in various firearms, several bans, and these activities.”

The three were charged with promoting terrorist activities. The fourth individual, in his early 30s, faces numerous firearms and explosives-related charges, police said.

The four appeared in the city of Quebec court on Tuesday, the statement added. CNN is about to contact a legal representative.

During a January 2024 search near Quebec, police say they discovered “16 explosive devices, 83 firearms and accessories, about 11,000 rounds of ammunition in various calibers, almost 130 magazines, four pairs of night vision goggles and military equipment.”

RCMP spokesman Erique Gasse Corp told CNN on Tuesday that the investigation began in March 2023.

They used the account to promote military-style training in Quebec and Ontario, Gus added.

Caches of firearms seized by police during a search in January 2024.

Gasse did not elaborate on the fact that certain ideologies allegedly motivated the men, or the location of land near the Quebec police claimed they planned to seize.

“It’s good that we caught them when we did,” Gus said.

The RCMP did not specify which men were members of the Canadian Army. The Pentagon Canada told CNN it is aware of the accusations against “two active members of the Canadian military.”

“The Canadian Army takes these allegations very seriously and is fully involved in the investigation,” a department spokesperson said in an email.

Extremism within Canadian military has been a long-standing problem, and a 2022 government report points out that the country’s military is “not immune to penetration” by members of extremist groups.

“The suspicion of members of extremist groups within the (DOD/Canadian Armed Forces) is a pressing moral, social and operational issue,” the report concluded.

Sky Nesta reveals what it really looks like when kids move in 2025

0

play

Jamie Delaney didn’t know what to expect when he became the empty Nestor in 2023. She quit her full-time job 12 years ago as a professor of child psychology to stay home with her two children. When her youngest went to college in Florida, Delaney said she was lonely.

She moved from Pittsburgh to Houston, where her husband works. He divides time between the two cities. Delaney tried to settle into a new life in Houston without a packed schedule of shuffling children to after-school activities and various doctor appointments. She missed the day.

“I dropped my career to be a parent,” said Delaney, 58. “And all of a sudden, my full-time job, I don’t have any more.”

However, Delaney’s empty Nestor phase didn’t last long.

Her 20-year-old daughter suffers from an autoimmune disease that flares up in her first year of college, Delaney said. At first everything looked amazing. “She joined the sorority. She was really happy. She liked her roommates.” But by the start of the second semester, Delaney said her daughter’s physical health was “in the process of getting worse.” It became clear that she would need to go home to Pittsburgh in order for her to get closer to the doctor.

So Delaney also returned to Pittsburgh, so she was able to have her mother and daughter together.

“I’m like raising a child again,” Delaney said.

“Empty Nesting Syndrome” was coined in the early 1900s and described a sense of loss and loneliness. Over the past few decades, some parents have embraced the empty Nester lifestyle and focused on reconnecting as couples after years of child rearing. However, with the rise in mental health challenges between high cost of living and student loan debt, and other barriers that prevent teens and young adults and some adult children from starting their own lives, it is becoming more common to ensure that parents’ empty nest stages do not slow, shorten, or even occur at all.

More than half of young adults ages 18 to 24 live with their parents, census data shows. That includes college students who live at home during the semester. And, according to an analysis by the government’s PEW Research Centre, nearly half of people ages 18 to 29 live with their parents, almost half of adults living with their parents.

Kari Cardinale, Chief Content Manager and Partner at Modern Elder Academy, is an online school that features workshops and destination retreats for midlife students, and said that some parents don’t actually talk about the final stages of parenting that feel like their home. Gen X was raised to believe that when their children were 18 years old, they were single-minded.

“The world has changed,” she said.

Families are more emotionally connected than previous generations, fostering better, healthier family relationships, Cardinal said. On the other hand, she finds that some adult children have mostly online friendships and difficult to develop non-family relationships.

“The kids are staying for so long now,” Delaney said. She also has a friend who has an adult child at home. These are clever and capable young people, she said, but for middle class and wealthy families, “homes have become a very comfortable place.”

“I think parenting is completely different to my generation,” Delaney said.

Does mom have more trouble with empty nests than dad?

Gender has long been played in the stereotypes of the empty Nester, Cardinal said. It wasn’t a massive truth, she said, but it was a huge transition for her mother.

Suzanne Stavert, 64, focused on children for 23 years before becoming a Nestor of the Sky 10 years ago.

“It was really tough,” she said. “I really felt lost.”

Currently, Stavert is a podcaster and travel writer who promotes the joys of nesting in the sky. She began writing about her experiences as a Nestor of the Sky and said she found an online community that had transformed into her second career. Since finding a passion for travel, Stavert has encouraged other sky nesting players to go out and find adventures too.

Lisa Stephen, a psychologist and wellness coach with a focus on motherhood, said mothers still carry the weight of caregiving and parent-child relationships primarily. She suggests that it takes time for the youngest child to leave the house. Plan what that life stage will look like.

“There’s nothing wrong with crying and missing the kids and hoping you can go back in time,” Stephen said. “There’s nothing wrong with being deeply saddened, and it’s sad for many. For most, I say it.”

It’s a big transition for the father too. Now, especially, Cardinal said that men play a prominent role in raising their children “in a way that their father probably doesn’t.”

Eric Scheve, a 54-year-old father of Cincinnati, Ohio, said he and his wife are equal partners in parenting to their two current children. He says he spoke to his friends about the fun activities they are doing as empty nests, but when it comes to expressing his sadness from the loss of his child, he finds it comfortable to talk about it with his wife.

“It feels like it’s time to spread this transitional experience for everyone,” Cardinal said, adding that parents’ ranges are experiencing pain when leaving the house as well as children.

Partners can help each other feel supported during the transition to empty nest, Stephen said. However, it is not fair to ask adult children to help relieve that sadness and loss.

Parents turned the nestafocus on romance, healthy vacant

Still many parents have successfully transitioned to the empty Nester stage and love it. Andrew Distefano, 59, said he was a nester in the sky for 10 years. Both of his children are in their 30s and work as software engineers.

He and his wife were married young and soon had children, he said. Now Distefano says they’re making up for the lost time. The empty Nester Stage gave them the opportunity to “reestablish our connection as a couple.” They now have time to focus on their health by doing more exercise and taking longer walks.

Distefano in Philadelphia has noticed “big changes” in her neighborhood over the past decade, with more adult children coming home, finding that their families live in multifamilies for financial reasons, and establishing a stronger sense of community.

“When I talk to our nies and nephews and a lot of the younger generations, I realize how difficult it can be to start a career and start a family,” he said. “The financial pressure and impact that younger generations have – it was really easy for us 30 years ago.”

According to Scheve, the “empty” part of the empty nest is true. However, he and his wife, Paola Capelari, 53, are trying their best to fill that emptiness with a new adventure, check things out from their bucket list and post pictures of the completed tasks on social media. They also recently started a blog.

Shave said he is enjoying the opportunity to lean a little more romance and “date” his wife again.

“This is our chance, right?” Shave said. “Because no one knows what life will bring.”

“They’re still like pay.” Set boundaries with adult children.

Scheve and Cappellari don’t worry about their kids coming home. But they are prepared for it and consider them a “safety net” for adult children if something is to happen financially or healthily. They know that not all parents have the means to help their grown children. A recent survey on Savings.com shows that half of parents with adult children send money regularly, with an average support per adult child being $1,474 a month.

The key is setting boundaries, said Cardinal. Adult children should not expect their parents to cook, clean, or do the laundry. Having an open and honest conversation as a family can help reduce tension and give more autonomy to young people in their homes.

It may be difficult for mothers and fathers to shift parenting, she said, but moving into more friend-like relationships leads to better life compatibility.

The bigger social push is normalising that adult children are going home, Stephen said. Cardinal agrees.

“There are a lot of judgements from society that if, somehow, your child comes home, it’s bad,” Cardinal said. “It’s a kind of system failure.

That’s not true, both Cardinal and Stephen said. Still, a 2024 study from the Pew Research Center found that over 70% of young adults’ parents said their child’s success and failure are reflected in parenting. Nearly 60% say they have helped their children financially over the past year.

Sometimes living together is not an option. Adult children with mental health challenges also need support, but parents find themselves setting boundaries for their health and safety.

Sheryl Hermansen, 59, of Campbell, California, said she and her husband were “technically empty nests.” But “they’re still like pay, like pay,” she says, and no one “really completely released.”

“We’re empty. They don’t live with us,” she said. “But we still help them a lot.”

She and her husband remarried when their son was 10, she said, and now her son and two stairs are in their 30s. Their teen years have been “very turbulent,” with all three facing mental health challenges ranging from substance use disorders to bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety.

If she didn’t financially support the adult child, Hermansen said, “They wouldn’t make it.”

“We’re not fully prepared” and uncertain progress

A year after her daughter got home, Delaney said they still live together in Pittsburgh. Delaney schedules the appointment of her daughter’s doctor and helps her plan her schedule for her online classes. Her daughter takes part-time college classes while living at home.

Delaney said it’s good to have her home. But if she could choose the ideal situation for an adult daughter, “I would definitely choose a healthy, happy, highly functional college student.”

For Delaney, it was one uncertainty after the next.

“I think we weren’t completely ready when they were gone, but then we weren’t completely ready,” Delaney said. “And I’m really unsure which one is gone and what it will look like.”

Trump renovates the White House Cabinet Room

0

play

President Trump played Dotensieff on July 8th, improvising tours of paintings and other objects sourced from various locations, including the State Department, to renovate the White House cabinet room.

The tour came at the end of an almost two-hour meeting with his cabinet, which was sitting around an oval mahogany table.

He was pointing to the wall to the left, talking about his attempt to redo the meeting room, which was originally created at West Wing in 1934.

“We had some photos, not many of them and it wasn’t very good,” he said.

Trump then revealed the White House safe, a major source of his new addition.

“The Vault is where we have a lot of great photos and artwork,” he said. “And I chose it all myself, I’m extremely proud of it.”

There were two indicators that he made his final choice – the president he praised and the one that was in the right sized, right-looking frame.

“I’m a frame guy. I like frames more than I like photography,” he told the prisoner-world audience.

“Pork (President James Pork) was actually a very good president who had the same frame that I needed,” he said. “He was a kind of real estate man. People don’t notice him.”

Polk, who served as president from 1845 to 1849, was the son of a Tennessee farmer and landowner, overseeing the largest territorial expansion in US history through the annexation of Texas and the acquisition of California during the Mexican-American War.

Trump has expressed a similar desire for annexation for Canada and Greenland.

Trump is also on a mission to give the White House a facelift, from glittering an oval office with gold accents to ripping the grass from the rose garden and replacing it with a flag patio.

Other handpicked presidential paintings in the Cabinet Room include Andrew Jackson, George Washington, Dwight Eisenhower, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, John Adams and his wife Abigail.

Also, from the safe? “A very old, renowned mirror,” he said, referring to a gold trimmed circular mirror. He also added decorative ceiling medallions around the hanging lamp.

“They had chains in the ceiling,” he explained. “I said, ‘You can’t do that. You need to have a medallion.”

The President saved Piace de Resistance for the end: Grandfather’s Watch.

Trump revealed that when he visited the Secretary of State Department’s Office, Marco Rubio, the tall, independent, “gorgeous” watch caught his eye.

“I said, ‘Marco, I love this watch. It’s beautiful. He said, what kind of watch?”

Trump continues: “It’s the clock in the other room. It’s incredible. And no one can see it. I want to take that clock and put it in the cabinet room.”

“Marco said, ‘No, are you serious?’ ”

“I have the right to do that, Marco. And he said, ‘It’s okay.’ ”

There is a new Superman in town. He’s like a big blue Boy Scout in a red trunk that we’ve never seen in a long time.

Written and directed by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) ‘Superman’ introduces David Corenswett to a new steel man, as well as launches a rebooted DC film universe. Poppy, a satisfying adventure (★★★½, 4-person PG-13, July 11th in theatre) will succeed on both fronts with the best soup since Christopher Reeve. The film features popular positivity, one of which is truly cool dogs and a bright comic book aesthetic. And while this fresh superhero landscape is very busy and a bit familiar, it also feels lively and electricity.

Cancer is not interested in alleviating you into this new world with stories of origin and dumps of expositions. Taking pages from “Star Wars” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” he drops viewers into the middle of the story. This is a running theme. Our heroes get slammed a lot with this flick, but they always slam.

After being saved by his pack-esque Super Dog Crypto, Superman returns to win the battle, but faces all sorts of problems. Metropolis’ favorite good guy is to deal with the PR repulsion after fictional Boravia stops invading other countries. He also checked out billionaire engineer Bro Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), a genius who cites this alien from Krypton as being more popular than him.

Luthor and his team – influencer girlfriend Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio), engineer (María Gabriela de Faría), and mystical masked ultraman – the Fortress of Solitaryness of Raid Supes. They discover and reveal secret recordings that Superman doesn’t know, oppose him, and raises the hero question everything about his past and identity.

Gunn fills his “Superman” with plenty of action, from the title character’s flying junt (shown as a burning experience) to throwing Superman with the giant Kaiju. But making a film and holding yourself back is love.

He fights a bit with his girlfriend, Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), about the Boravian incident that shows their strong-willed personality. And once every Heck collapses, even dimensionally, Superman at some point puts all his existential crisis aside and finds the missing Crypto.

Jacked Coren sweatshirts sell it very well, bringing about vulnerability, relevance, humor, in-laws’ frustration, and lack of irony for the ultimate good role. And Brosnahan lends fun talent to Lois, the film’s second lead. She gains more action hero duties than her previous versions of the characters, and there is no superfool like the punchable man Gardner (Nathan Fillion). And Hoult is a nervous, Smarty Lex inspired choice, a supervillain who may be the most realistic personality in the fantastical world.

Cancer can be argued that he is trying to do too much with this opening salvo. There are plenty of Easter eggs, some surprising cameos and a large supporting cast. (However, please note that The Tratific Edi Gathegi is The Mr. Thrific.)

That said, there is no false notes or wasted energy in making this improved DC universe stand out from previous overly dour DCU or kippy, smooth Marvel movies. “Superman” is more conventional than Gunn’s “Guardian” flick, or his DC outings “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker,” but he continues the off-kilter fun with the indifference of those films. And while Cancer doesn’t overdo it with political interests, themes and personality, he certainly drives the home to the point that we are all superpowers to use regularly.

But the most important thing here is that the man in tights is at work. In the past, the “S” on Superman’s chest means hope, and Coren Sweat has infused his hero with joy and optimism, spitting his distinctive spit from his boots. It seems perhaps most important that some people consider themselves old fashioned people.

How to watch “Superman”

“Superman,” starring David Corenswet, will be in theaters on July 11th and will be reviewing PG-13 by the Film Association “On Violence, Action, Language.”
