One of the biggest matches of the World Cup to date is approaching. Mexico host England in a home game on Sunday, July 5, at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City in the Round of 16.
To advance to this match, England defeated Congo 2-1 in their Round of 32 match. Harry Kane scored two goals, both in the second half. The 2018 Golden Boot winner has scored five goals in this competition. England won Group L and advanced to the final tournament.
“We are in an iconic location, an iconic stadium, a huge game, the final tournament against Mexico at the Azteca,” England manager Thomas Tuchel told reporters. “This is an iconic game, a big stage, and we feel that.”
Mexico got here by winning Group A. Mexico is the only team in the World Cup so far to have completed four games in group play and the last 32 without conceding a goal. Will that continue against Kane and co?

There have been rumors that the kick-off time for Mexico’s Round of 16 match between England and Mexico could be moved to 8pm ET due to reports of inclement weather. However, multiple reports said the match was set to kick off as scheduled despite thunderstorms in the area.
USA TODAY Sports’ Andres Soto was on the scene at Estadio Azteca and reports there is a sign outside the stadium that reads “Storm Protocol.” The rain had stopped and there was no thunder for a while.

The forward was born in Colombia but came to northern Mexico as a teenager to play for Tigres, a club based near Monterrey. He stayed in Mexico for nearly 10 years.
