Sugar, Sex, and Your Health: Connections You may be ignoring

0

Dr. Jamin Brahmbhatt is a urologist and robotic surgeon with Orlando Health and an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida School of Medicine.

When most of us think about sugar, we must not be thinking about our sex life. We’re thinking about desserts. I am writing this with the help of a bowl of vanilla ice cream by my side.

Sugar makes us feel good in that moment, but over time, too many can be lost in some of the most intimate moments of life.

In 2025, everyone was busy about GLP-1 injections, helping to control sugar and lose weight. This new class of medication has helped many people achieve meaningful health benefits, such as improving blood sugar levels, weight loss, and even improving people’s sex lives (as sleep can also be improved).

My goal here is not to underestimate the use of GLP-1 medications or to suggest that people are taking them unnecessarily (though it may be for some). My intention is to induce a broader conversation. What if we pay more attention to the underlying cause: our love for sugar and its downstream influence on mood, metabolism, gender, etc.?

Most people associate blood sugar levels with diabetes, but few people know what “normal” is.

Blood glucose levels can be checked in real time with a simple finger stick, either via a home glucose monitor or via wearable devices such as a continuous glucose monitor (a coin-sized device displayed on a person’s upper arm).

What do we see when this test is done? Below is the American Diabetes Association’s reference range for blood sugar levels, but it is not intended to diagnose diabetes. In many cases, providers can even double or triple check these numbers before labeling them with “diabetes.”

All figures should be evaluated by the health care provider.

Fasting blood sugar levels (no food at least 8 hours ago):

  • Usually: less than 100 mg/dl (milligrams per deciliter)

  • Presugar: 100-125 mg/dl

  • Diabetes: 126 mg/dL or higher

Random Blood Glucose (Photographed Anytime):

  • Diabetes is often diagnosed when levels are above 200 mg/dL.

The Point of Care glucose test provides snapshots, but there is one lab that tells the complete story. It’s hemoglobin A1c.

What is hemoglobin A1c and why is it important?

This blood test measures the percentage of hemoglobin protein in the blood that has glucose attached to it. This gives you and your healthcare provider a photo of your average blood sugar for the past 2-3 months. This makes it a reliable indicator that your body manages glucose well over time.

Here’s how the American Diabetes Association breaks it down:

  • Normal: A1c below 5.7%

  • Diabetes: 5.7% to 6.4%

  • Diabetes: 6.5% or more

In my job as a surgeon, it is standard practice to check A1C before procedures, especially those involving implants. Elevated A1C levels are strongly associated with poor recovery, risk of infection, and surgical complications. So, whether it’s a major urological procedure or something else, it’s more important to suppress glucose than most people realize.

Sexual health is rarely associated with blood sugar levels first, but chronically high glucose levels can affect intimacy for everyone.

In men, hyperglycemia can damage nerves and blood vessels, which are essential to achieving and maintaining an erection. Over time, this may be present as erectile dysfunction before it is thought to be at risk for diabetes or diagnosed. Hyperglycemia can also lower testosterone levels, which reduces sexual desire and energy.

Many of my patients who do not receive routine screening from primary care providers come to see me because of changes in sexual performance. For these patients, their first clue that something was wrong was not thirst, weight change, fatigue (a more common early sign of diabetes), but trouble in the bedroom.

In women, hyperglycemia can lead to reduced blood flow and hormonal imbalances, leading to vaginal dryness, painful sex, or orgasmic issues. It can also increase the risk of recurrent urinary tract infections, which makes intimacy less painful or attractive. Many women can be frustrated and confused as to whether these changes are expected from aging, postmenopausal, stress, or something else. Low sugar levels are usually the last thing in their minds.

Diabetes is very common – about 38 million Americans have it – and nearly one in four people don’t know about it, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US.

Traditionally, diabetes treatment began with oral medications like metformin, which helped to lower glucose by reducing liver sugar production. Other classes of tablets work in a variety of ways, either by increasing the release of insulin or by helping the kidneys wash away excess sugar. These medications are usually prescribed in people with early stages of diabetes or mildly elevated A1C.

If oral pills are not sufficient to treat the illness, you may need an injectable medication. For years, it often meant daily insulin injections, but many patients found it to be burdensome but necessary. Insulin needs to be carefully timed with your diet and can be difficult to do. There is also real fear of hypoglycemic episodes. This may make some people hesitate to start or stick to treatment.

Over the past few years, GLP-1 receptor agonist drugs have become part of the treatment regimen of many people. This class of drugs is known by names such as semaglutide, liraglutide, and tilzepatide. These injections mimic natural hormones in the body to regulate blood sugar, slow digestion, and make you feel faster.

They were originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes, but are gaining global attention to helping people lose weight. In fact, many patients now ask and take these medications before other options to not only manage their glucose but also to lose weight.

According to a preliminary study presented at the Endocrinology Society’s annual meeting this week, these drugs could also help normalize testosterone levels in men with obesity or type 2 diabetes.

The researchers followed 110 men who were prescribed GLP-1 injections but were not receiving testosterone therapy. Over the course of 18 months, the number of men with normal testosterone levels increased from 53% to 77% as participants lost an average of approximately 10% of their body weight. This rise highlights how drugs originally designed for diabetes and weight loss can improve hormone levels in men.

While this summary has not yet been peer-reviewed and requires more research, these findings add to much of the evidence that managing body weight and blood glucose in almost every aspect of health, including testosterone, energy, and sexual function, can have ripple effects.

Exercise regularly has countless health effects.

Before you turn to your medication immediately, don’t underestimate that you can make consistent lifestyle changes, not just for your blood sugar, but for the rest of your life.

Regular exercise improves sexual function by improving insulin sensitivity, supporting weight loss, increasing energy, and improving blood flow and hormone balance. A balanced diet – a diet rich in whole foods, fiber and lean proteins – can stabilize blood sugar and reduce inflammation that contributes to chronic disease. Better sleep, reduced alcohol and managing stress all play a role.

So, if you’re discussing between injections or new routines, this time you might reach the gym bag before trying anything else. You may notice that it changes more than your lab. It may change how you feel about yourself.

As for me, the next time I write, I remember that when I help out with an ice cream scoop, it’s not just my waistline, it’s about my energy, my mind, and my sexual health. And now, I’ve finished this post, so I’ll pick up my gym bag and take a walk here talking (to the gym).

Trump offers an ultimatum offering Putin to put pressure on Russia

0

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump gave an ultimatum when he took office as Russian President Vladimir Putin. Solve the war with Ukraine or pretend to be braces for painful tariffs and catastrophic sanctions.

After six and a half months of fruitless conversation, Trump says he’s ready to move forward. If the peace agreement has not been reached for 50 days, the US president has said he will impose catastrophic economic punishments on Russia and its trading partners to pay attention to the resolution of the war.

“If there’s no 50-day deals, we’re going to put in very strict tariffs,” Trump said on July 14 in his oval office. “About 100% tariffs, you’d call them secondary tariffs.”

Trump’s latest threat to Russia and the related decision to send Ukrainian weapons made in the US and paid by European allies run in parallel with Senate-led efforts to pass crippled sanctions that would cause the country to stricken with heavy tariffs if it purchases Russian energy.

Written by Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham and Democrat Richard Blumenthal, the bipartisan bill attracted 85 supporters. If Moscow refuses to settle with Ukraine, it will impose 500% tariffs on the countries that buy or sell Russian oil, gas, or oil.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are trying to advance a bill that Senate and House GOP leaders aimed to bring to the floor before they began their extended break in early August. Trump shows he is open to legislation, but wants to take control when sanctions are raised. This demand puts the president at odds with the democratic sponsors of the bill.

The law, which had gained momentum, returned to Limbo on July 14th after Trump’s tariff announcement.

Putin is making a “terrifying mistake”

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman James Lisch said last week that timing negotiations took place between the Senate and the White House, and that the bill was tailored to provide Trump with flexibility.

Among the Russian leaders, an Idaho Republican said, “I think Putin is absolutely making a terrible mistake. The president has given him every reasonable opportunity to do something.

Sen. John Tune said in a floor speech on July 9 that the senator made “substantial progress” on the bill that “helps Trump to step up leverage at the negotiation table and ends bloodshed in Ukraine.” He said at the time that the Senate would work with the House and the White House to get the bill through Congress.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, declared Fox News on July 13, “I think the house has a big appetite for that,” and said he would bring the bill to vote.

However, when Trump informed Putin that “severe tariffs” were on the way the next day, Thune suggested the Senate would halt.

“It seems like the president is trying to do this on his own right now,” Thune told reporters. “If at some point the President concludes that it makes sense and adds the value and leverage necessary to negotiate those to move the bill, we do that. We’re ready.”

Trump says the sanctions bill is “very convenient.”

Earlier in the day, Trump said when he set a deadline for consultations, he was unsure if the law was necessary. He said the 100% secondary tariffs are essentially useful for the same function as the 500% proposed by the Senator.

“They have actually made up pretty good laws, and they’ll probably pass very easily. That includes Democrats,” he said. “I don’t want to say that I don’t need it. It can be very useful because they don’t want to waste their time, we have to look.”

He previously called it an “optional bill” and said, “The President can do whatever he wants.”

In a weekend interview with CBS, Graham showed that Congress is considering changes that give Trump the ability to “dial up and down.”

“The advantage of our approach is to flexibly blend Congressional approval of tariffs and sanctions with the President’s implementation, and to shake up solids legally and politically,” Graham and Blumental said in a joint statement after Trump’s tariff announcement.

The law gives Trump the ability to grant a one-time exemption to the country and goods for up to 180 days if the president considers it in the national security interests of the United States.

China, India, Turkey and Brazil are among the countries that buy Russia’s energy and are most affected by sanctions.

According to the US Trade Representative, in 2024, US imports from Russia amounted to just $3 billion.

House Foreign Affairs Chairman Brian Mast told USA Today in a July 14 interview shortly after Trump’s announcement that neither the House nor the Trump administration reached a consensus on the bill Graham introduced in April.

However, he said the purpose of putting secondary tariffs on countries that indirectly fund Putin’s wars has been spent a long time, and countries like India and China should not be surprised that they are on the job.

A Florida Republican spoke about the threat of Trump’s secondary tariffs. “But the biggest cash cows that Russia has allowed to continue prosecuting this war are the sale of oil and gas.”

Democrats hope Trump will move forward with sanctions

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a top-ranked Democrat on the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee and the former co-sponsor of the Senate bill, told USA Today on July 10 that she saw a “good opportunity” that legislation will take through Congress.

“There’s a threading needle, and on the one hand the President – the President retains his ability to engage in foreign policy negotiations, and on the other hand, on a whim, can crave straight into the bed with his enemies and close the sanctions policies established by Congress,” she said.

Sen. John Fetterman, a Democrat who sometimes sided with Trump on policy, said the same day he fully supported “the most serious sanctions that could pass here in the Senate.”

The way Russia is attacking Ukraine with drones and killing civilians is “really heartbreaking and terrifying,” the Pennsylvania senator said.

“What the president said has given us the first hope since his election that we can actually deal with the horrific situation around Ukraine,” Fetterman said.

The system could cause heavy rains in Florida on the Gulf Coast

The National Hurricane Center monitored a low-pressure trough off the Atlantic coast of northern Florida on Monday, July 14, saying it could cause heavy rain to the area, as well as some Gulf states.

A predictor at the Hurricane Center said the trough is currently producing disturbed showers and thunderstorms in Florida, the Bahamas in the northwest and adjacent Atlantic waters.

“The system is expected to move west across Florida the following day or so, and west to the Bay by late Tuesday,” the Hurricane Center said on July 14, with environmental conditions favorable enough to support the progressive development of the system.”

“Regardless of development, heavy rain could cause local flash floods to light parts of Florida and parts of the Northern Gulf from central to late this week,” the Hurricane Forecaster said.

Atlantic hurricane season officially began on June 1st and continues until the end of November.

Aggressive hurricane weather usually peaks between mid-August and mid-October.

Atlantic Storm Tracker

This predicted track shows the most likely path in the center of the storm. The full width of the storm or its impact is not shown, and the storm center can move out of the cone for up to 33% of the time.

How do hurricanes form?

Hurricanes originate in the tropical regions above warm waters. Thunderstorm clusters can develop across the ocean when water temperatures exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit. If conditions are correct, clusters are swirling into tropical waves and storms known as tropical depression.

Tropical depression becomes a named tropical storm when its sustained wind speed reaches 39 mph. When the wind reaches 74 mph, the storm officially becomes a hurricane.

Get ready for a hurricane now

Potentially delaying preparations for salvation can mean waiting until it’s too late. “Get disaster supply while the shelves are still in stock and flood insurance requires a 30-day waiting period, so get that insurance inspection early,” NOAA recommends.

  • Establish an evacuation plan: If you are at risk of a hurricane, you will need an evacuation plan. Now is the time to plan where you will go and how you will get there.
  • Assemble disaster supply: Whether you’re evacuating or evacuating, you’ll need supplies not only to get through the storm, but also for the potentially long aftermath.
  • Get an insurance inspection and document your property: Contact your insurance company or agent now to ask for an insurance inspection and make sure you have sufficient insurance to repair or replace your home or belongings. Remember that home insurance and tenant insurance don’t cover floods, so you’ll need a separate insurance for that. Flood insurance is available through your company, agent, or through your national flood insurance program. Flood insurance requires a 30-day waiting period, so take action now.
  • Create a family communication plan: NOAA said he took the time to write down your hurricane plan and share it with your family. Determine where family gatherings are to be located and include out-of-town locations in the event of evacuation.
  • It strengthens your home: Now is the time to improve your home’s ability to withstand the effects of a hurricane. Trim the wood; attach storm shutters, accordion shutters, and/or impact glass. Seal the wall opening.

Back to popular demand, Chipotle is rebooting its bestselling makeup products – yes, you read it correctly – “Lipottle” lip stain.

Metallic, avocado-inspired lip stains turn green and wiped away to reveal the colour of the rose, which is undistorted, clearly prevented from eating. Lip stains are available only on the Wonderskin website from Tuesday, July 15th.

Cosmetics brands Chipotle and Wonderskin first launched the “Lipottle” Wonder Blade Peel and Lip Stain Kit for National Avocado Day in July 2024. The dirt was the fastest ever sold out, but the company has received over 10,000 emails and comments, according to a news release.

Countless videos of Tiktok from last summer show women trying out the shade, whether they’re holding a bag of chipotle and preparing for a day at home or in the car.

Here’s what you need to know about how to get “Lipottle” and viral shades.

What is the stain on your lips on Lipottle?

“Lipottle” is part of Wonderskin’s mask collection, which involves applying stains on lips and peeling them to show shade underneath.

Customers should apply “Lipottle” and see the metallic green foil tint dry on their lips within about 30 seconds. The shade can be left for up to 60 seconds due to the dark shade.

Wonderskin recommends spraying its incredible blading activator onto foil to “lock into the pigment.” This activator is available for sale with the “Lipottle” Wonder Blade Peel and Lip Stain Kit revealed.

You can then peel off the foil and say that the nude rose shade will last for 10 hours under the Wonderskin.

How much does lip stain on Lipotol?

“Lipottle” lip stain is available for $29.

Where to buy lip stains from Lipottle

Tesla’s decline opens doors for GM’s electric vehicle rise

0

play

  • As Tesla loses steam, GM is gaining market share for electric vehicles.
  • Automotive analysts say the aging vehicle portfolio and the political environment have harmed Tesla’s sales this quarter.

Tesla Inc., the number one electric vehicle company in the US, has appointed clients as public opinion deteriorated with polarized billionaire CEO Elon Musk. According to automotive experts, the market gap has steadily been met and is a product produced by General Motors.

Detroit’s automaker accelerated sales and market share of electric vehicles in the first half of the year thanks to expanded electrical products of three of the four brands. Meanwhile, consumer sentiment towards Texas-based rival Tesla gained the crater this spring due to criticism of Musk’s practical involvement in Washington politics.

“While GM is quietly building trust, Elon is burning it,” said Paul Waatti, director of industry analytics at Autopacific. “Consumers are responding to consistency rather than volatility, and GM’s stable hands are beginning to pay dividends.”

The tide has changed somewhat, but the sales bays among American car manufacturers are enormous. GM EV sales are Tesla’s distant second. Still, GM reported triple-digit growth in the EV, but Tesla faced double-digit losses during that period.

Tesla said it delivered 384,122 vehicles in the second quarter from June to June, down 13% from 443,956 deliveries a year ago. As Tesla has not cut off delivery by region, sales estimates provided by Automotive News Data Centers reduced Tesla’s second quarter US sales by approximately 125,000, or 16.7%. For the first six months of 2025, Tesla sold 255,000 in the US, A 13% decrease from the first half of 2024.

Meanwhile, GM sold 78,167 electric vehicles in the US in the first half, an increase of 111% from mid-2024, of which 46,280 were sold in the second quarter.

GM’s estimated EV market share reached 13%, but could grow as the year progresses and still shrink, according to Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at Autoforecast Solutions.

Annual sales of Tesla’s lineup for the first time fell in 2024. Tesla said it will slump into a production pause and move to a refreshed version of its bestselling model Y SUV, industry experts will urge purchases to be postponed until a new version is rolled out.

Instead, people bought fewer Tesla vehicles.

“There’s not one thing that can cause Tesla sales to fall and GM to rise. That’s a combination of factors,” Fioni said. “Part of that is being addressed to Elon Musk, and part of that will eliminate the EV tax credit. The EV market is developing very quickly, but we are still at the beginning of the bell curve.”

Long head start

Tesla, Inc. manufactures electric vehicles, batteries and solar panels. was founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. PayPal co-founder Elon Musk invested $30 million in the venture before taking over CEO shortly after Roadster, the first vehicle launch in 2008, and chaired the company before taking over CEO.

Meanwhile, GM was founded 100 years before Roadsters appeared on the roads, and even benefited from creating the first modern electric vehicle with the EV1 in 1996, but had not returned to wide-ranging electric vehicle production until the 2010s.

Tesla’s longevity as a popular name for electric vehicles may have an advantage over larger legacy automakers like GM, but the name has lost its sheen amidst a stagnant vehicle lineup and physical stagnation, COX’s industry insight director told part of the USA Today Network. (Tesla does not use franchise dealers and does not offer promotional discounts for its products.) Tesla has not launched an entirely new vehicle since Cybertruck in 2023.

“Tesla has gotten off to this head start, but we see that these other manufacturers will be launching products that they sell to resonate with dealers,” she said.

GM’s electric vehicle sales could be growing exponentially, but it’s not quite as good as the company’s business under its gas-powered model. GM used the multi-powertrain portfolio to its advantage.

The popularity of the gas-powered versions of the Chevrolet Equinox and blazer claims it is likely to help sell electrical appliances as consumers relied on familiar choices. The Chevrolet Equinox EV, which launched last year for $34,995, has sold 17,420 sales so far this year. GM sold 12,736 Blazer EVs in 2025, starting from 7,234, which were sold until June 2025.

“We’re about giving our customers more options. Over the past few years we’ve made the right investment to bring the widest ICE and EV portfolios in the industry to the market,” said Tara Kuhnen, GM spokesman. “We are proud to continue to drive innovation here in the United States.”

Joe Lafeir, president of S&P Global Mobility’s Automotive Insights, said in a February statement that announced GM’s tenth consecutive year that it was GM, in a February statement that announced that automakers with healthy pipelines of products that appeal to a wide range of buyers will boast a healthy pipeline of product products that drive sales.

Fiorani added that the more options consumers generally have, the more likely they are to find what brands are looking for when they move to electric powertrains.

“GM has a Cadillac and Chevrolet and GMC are spread across many segments,” Fioni said. “They are still behind Tesla, but they offer customers the option that Tesla doesn’t.”

Reputation damage

The role of Musk in President Donald Trump’s administration, which leads the efficiency of government, has been gaining negative corporate coverage and customer backlash.

Doge, the creator of masks, is responsible for job cuts in thousands of public sector jobs, which has been criticized for inspiring Teslas’ massive destructionism in dealers and public parking lots. Videos of people keying Teslas have gone viral on social media platforms Instagram and X.

The Detroit Free Press Reporter borrowed Tesla in March to measure the response of Metro Detroit residents and connected with Tesla owners.

The true impact of Tesla’s changing public image could still be realized, Valdez Starti added. She compared the change with consumer sentiment. Consumer sentiment took time for spending habits to catch up with reports of economic uncertainty.

“Tesla is definitely down when it comes to data on brand favors,” she said.

The Supreme Court says Trump can fire workers in the education sector

0

play

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court, ideologically split on July 14, has allowed the Trump administration to fire hundreds of workers from the education sector and continue other efforts to dismantle the agency.

The three Liberal Justice in the Court opposed President Donald Trump’s latest victory in the High Court, the order.

Judge Sonia Sotomayor said the majority handed Trump the power to repeal the law passed by Congress to “dismiss everything necessary to carry out them.”

“The majority are deliberately blind to the meaning of that arbitration or naiveness,” Sotomayor wrote.

The majority did not explain the decision in a short, unsigned order.

The decision comes a week after the court allowed the administration to move forward with massive staffing cuts across multiple agencies.

Trump is trying to fulfill his campaign promise to end the education sector and move school policies to the state.

“Today, the Supreme Court has once again confirmed what is obvious. As executive director, the US President has the ultimate authority to make decisions about the level of staffing, management organizations, and day-to-day operations of federal agencies,” Education Secretary Linda McMahon said in a statement.

She said the administration will continue to carry out the education-related functions needed by the law and “empower families and teachers by reducing the education bureaucracy.”

Workers in the education sector took administrative leave in March and stopped receiving their salary on June 9th. The judges then intervened at the request of Democratic-led states, school districts and teacher unions. The government has spent more than $7 million a month continuing to pay employees who cannot work, according to the U.S. Government Employee Federation.

Massachusetts US District Judge Myong Joun said the White House decision to fire more than 1,300 workers has prevented the federal government from effectively implementing legally necessary programs and services. Such changes were ruled in May by Joun without approval from the Congress, which created the department in 1979.

The Boston-based First Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the decision. The court said the administration did not provide evidence to counter the “recorded findings on the impact of obstacles” of mass shootings and the transfer of some functions to other agencies.

The Justice Department said the constitution gives the administrative bodies, not the courts, the authority to determine the number of employees needed.

“The Department of Education has determined that it can be carried out with staff who have reduced legally mandatory functions. We have determined that many discretionary functions are left to the state,” Attorney General John Saur told the Supreme Court.

The executive order signed by Trump in March directed McMahon to “promote the closure of the Department of Education.”

Republicans have accused the federal government of holding too much power over local and state education policies, even though the federal government does not control school curriculum.

McMahon announced that a combination of massive layoffs and voluntary acquisitions would eliminate about half of the agency’s workforce. This would have cut staff from 4,133 workers to 2,183 when Trump began his second term in January.

The administration also hopes that the Small Business Bureau will take over student loans and move special education services to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Joun’s May 22 order required the administration to block the transfer of those functions and revive workers fired by the department.

The appeals court said Trump doesn’t need to employ as many education workers as his previous administrations, but he can’t cut down as many functions as Congress intended.

The states challenging the move said the administration has eliminated almost every worker who proves that universities and universities are eligible for federal student aid programs. And it told the Supreme Court that lawyers in New York and other states disrupted the department responsible for the data used to allocate billions of dollars to the state.

A lawyer for the Democracy Forward Foundation told the Supreme Court.

“After the court’s decision, Skye Peryman, president and CEO of Democracy Forward, will actively pursue all legal options to ensure that the lawsuit progresses and ensure that every child in this country has access to the public education they deserve.”

The Justice Department told the Supreme Court that the harm to the government as workers have to be rehired as the lawsuit continues is greater than the harm challengers said they would suffer a decline in departmental services. The department also opposed the challenges for procedural reasons.

“Why don’t you block terrorism among settlers?”: Palestinians call IDF following American citizens beaten and die by Israeli settlers

Mazra Ash Sharkiya, West Bank
CNN

Saif Moosalett was only a few weeks away from celebrating his 21st birthday, and when he visited his family here, the Florida native began to turn to marriage.

“I think it’s time to get married,” Musalou told his father, Kamel, on a phone call last week. “Hopefully, I can find a future spouse while I’m here.”

The call will be Kamel’s final conversation with his son. A few days later, according to his family and witnesses, Saif was beaten to death by Israeli settlers.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Musalou was one of two men killed by settlers that day.

Hundreds of people confronted the afternoon sun for the funeral of the two men on Sunday, carrying their bodies to their final resting spot. Some mourners cried openly, buried their faces in the Palestinian flag and wrapped their bodies.

People will carry the body of Saifmusarret during his funeral near Ramallah on Sunday on the West Bank, occupied by Israel.

They are one of nearly 1,000 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces or settlers since the region erupted into war on October 7, 2023, according to the United Nations.

Their deaths mark the latest escalation in the colonist attacks at Singil. There, Palestinian residents say that settlers have invaded their land in the past two months, terrorizing the Palestinians.

Mousarou was among the dozens of Palestinians who drove to Singil together after a prayer on Friday and a prayer to reach their land. They say they were attacked by rocks, clubs and gun-wielding settlers.

Among them, a group of settlers came down to Musallet and begged him with sticks and clubs, an eyewitness told CNN.

Musallet’s younger brother manages to contact him and ask for help. He said that Moosarlett is unconscious, but still breathes and needs an ambulance.

However, for at least two hours, the ambulance could not reach him. The settlers were still roaming the area and had already crushed the ambulance windshield that day. On the other side, Israeli forces fired tear gas to disperse the Palestinian crowd, refusing to allow ambulances to pass for hours.

By the time the ambulance reached Musallet, his face was blue and he was holding his breath.

“No one could reach him,” said Mousarou’s father, Camel.

Safe Moosallet
Safe Moosallet

He says he now holds Israeli troops who are as responsible for the death of his son as the settlers who beat him.

“They blocked ambulances and allowed settlers to do what they wanted at any time,” Kamel Moussarrow said. “I take the Israeli army just as responsible as the settlers and the US government and have not done anything about this. Why are you not telling the IDF? Why not prevent the settlers from terrorist attacks?”

Israeli forces said it was investigating Musaloo’s death, but did not respond to allegations that it prevented the ambulance from reaching him.

The Musallet family has called on the US to investigate Musallow’s murder. Beyond the call of sad dol from the US Consulate, Camel Mousalette said he had not heard anything more from the Trump administration.

Saif Mousalette was born and raised in Port Charlotte, Florida, and owned an ice cream shop in Tampa with his father.

“Everyone loved him. Everyone loved Safe,” his father said.

But Camel Mousalette says he believes there is a double standard. The US government says he would take the murder of his son more seriously if he were in America and Israel.

“We want justice. We want America and Israel, America and the Palestinians to be in the same class,” Kamel Musalett said. “These are Americans, but for some reason, the Americans and Palestinians are distinguished from America and Israel.”

Hafez Abdel Jabbar, a US citizen, was one of the Palestinians on the scene that day. He said that settlers and soldiers prevented the ambulance and soldiers from reaching Musallet for several hours until a vehicle appeared with a police officer from Cogat, an Israeli coordinator of government activities on the territory, and agreed to escort him.

Abdel Jabbar believes Musallet could have been saved if it had been previously allowed.

“Of course,” Abdel Jabber said. “The first minute, from the first call… he was breathing.”

CNN witnessed firsthand the violence of settlers in Singil on Sunday when we were attacked by a group of settlers who smashed the windows of our vehicles.

A white car began to follow the team as Abdel Jabbar ran down the CNN and took Musallet’s unconscious body to the site where he found it.

Inside there was a group of at least four settlers who covered their faces as they began pursuing our cars.

As they approached a nearby intersection, the settlers got out of their car and tried to strip the vehicle away, but turned around as CNN approached the nearby Israeli border police vehicle.

Border police forces immediately headed out to search for settlers after being warned by CNN.

However, a few minutes later, our team was ambushed. The settlers attacked in hiding and not visible to border police.

One assailant of some kind, or mallet-wielding, crashed into a CNN vehicle, causing the team to quickly smash the rear window. Israeli police have launched an “active investigation in pursuit of justice” on the attacks, saying such cases are being treated “very seriously.”

“If it had taken us another five seconds, we would have all been beaten,” Abdel Jabber said.

But for Abdel Jabbar, it is a taste of the harsh reality he is forced to face in the West Bank. His son, Tawfic, was killed in January 2024 by Israeli settlers.

“You scream to the whole world, the whole world is watching – simply silent – all these mothers see their sons working hard to raise them for 20 years,” Abdel Jabber said. “And you pick them up when you place them on the ground, under the sky. And the silence continues over and over.”

“It is the silence of the whole world that seriously hurts you.”

KFC’s “comeback” plan includes a free bucket of chicken: how to get one

play

Kentucky Fried Chicken has announced that the fast foot chain is handing out free buckets of chicken, but there’s a catch.

The restaurant said the “Kentucky Fried Comeback” is planning to “return KFC to the top” as the number one chicken chain in the US. Fried chicken heats up the competition between fast food joints, whether it’s bread or wrap. Last week, McDonald’s reintroduced snack wraps, causing a friendly war with tortilla-wrapped chickens.

KFC’s fried chicken, made from Colonel’s “The legendary blend of 11 herbs and spices,” puts the company on the map. So, following operational advances to improve brand preferences and customer satisfaction scores, KFC said its kitchen is inviting customers to taste the difference – “Crispy, hot and undoubtedly original,” the restaurant said in a news release on Monday, July 14th.

“We’re well aware of the latest fried chicken rankings. I was fired to launch a bold Kentucky Fried Comeback, reminding America exactly who we are.” “If people can give us the original chance, I hope our fans will give us it… come back and give us the first bucket.”

Here’s how to get a free bucket of KFC chicken:

How to get a free KFC bucket of chicken

To get the Kentucky Fried Chicken Buckets offered at the fast food chain for free, fans will have to come online and spend $15 first.

“Free Bucket on Us” transactions are digital offers and available on KFC.com and the KFC app on online purchases of $15 or more (before taxes and other charges) in the Select Store via your KFC Rewards account.

The promotion ended on August 24th, with company spokesman Maria Schmitz telling USA Today on July 14th.

KFC said the offer must be redeemed before checking out. After customers try chicken, the company asks for feedback through the form on the website.

According to KFC, the transaction cannot be combined with other offers and the customer is responsible for taxes and fees.

KFC has announced plans to move its headquarters

KFC is currently headquartered in Louisville, but recently announced plans to move out of Kentucky.

In mid-February, owner Yum! The brand said it will establish two new brand headquarters in Plano, Texas and Irvine, California.

According to a February news release from the company, 100 KFC corporate employees moved to Texas this year, with 90 remote workers doing the same in early 2027.

Democrats find “poor” conditions in “Alcatraz the Crocodile” immigration prison

Democrats were not allowed to talk to detainees or examine their cells.

play

  • Democrats toured the “Crocodile Alcatraz” detention facility and reported their inhumanity.
  • Concerns have been raised regarding sanitation, access to clean water and medical care within the facility.
  • The facility, which aims to house 3,000 detainees, was built over eight days on the Everglades runway.
  • Republican lawmakers who previously toured the facility gave a different explanation of the terms.
  • “What I saw has sunk my heart,” said a US representative Maxwell Frost.

Congressional Democrats called the Wannial Catraz Immigration Detention Center in Florida’s Everglades “vile”, “inhumane” and “gross” and pledged that authorities would take responsibility, and Congressional Democrats toured the facility on July 12th.

“People were screaming, ‘Help me, help me,’ said Senator Maxwell Frost. “I heard someone behind me say, ‘I’m a US citizen.’ ”

Frost said the center had around 1,000 male detainees, mostly Hispanic. There is a cell to accommodate 3,000 detainees, and he said workers will soon add 1,000 more beds.

He told him on Saturday that the average stay would be two weeks before deportation.

“When those doors opened, what I saw sank my heart,” said Frost, the son of the first millennial and Cuban immigrants to be elected to Congress. “I saw 32 people per cage, about six in one tent. I saw a lot of young men who looked like me, and people of my age.”

Lawmakers said they were not allowed to observe them from the entrance to the tent, examine the cells or talk to detainees.

“As we were leaving, they started chanting, ‘Libertado, libertado, freedom,'” Frost said.

Previously entering the O’Copy Detention Center, about 75 miles west of Miami, Democrats in the Congress and Florida State Legislature had a very different take than the Republicans who toured more than 10 days ago.

The 39 acres of compound targeting immigrants for deportation were constructed in a hurry in eight days.

Republicans called the food “delicious” and spoke about how comfortable the detainee’s beds are, saying the facility meets all the detention center standards.

The Democrats disagreed.

“They shouldn’t put humans in the middle of the Everglades swamp. That’s outrageous. It’s inhuman. It’s illegal,” Sen. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said.

Flood and backup toilets

Frost spoke in virtual calls with Naples Daily News, part of the USA Today Network, and other news outlets.

But their attempts were blocked, he said.

“Federal law requires members of Congress to allow unpublished visits,” Wasserman Schultz said. “We are confident that the nation made it the wind and decided to set up this fake tour.”

Frost said he was spoken to attorneys and the family of detainees. “There’s a flood. There’s been reports of toilets not working, and we’ve backed up and the feces are flooded into the sleeping cage.

Wasserman Schultz added that “detainees are forced to turn on the lights and sleep all night and have no access to lawyers,” noting concerns that “the facility is violating lands of different tribes.”

“Gloss” toilet tank contains spigots of drinking water

Frost detailed what he witnessed. “I was in the facility for about two hours and all I saw was a horrible condition and a cage,” he said. “… There are three toilets in each cage for a group of 32 people and their drinking water comes from the toilet.

“There’s a little patience on the toilet. That’s where they drink water. …It’s gross, it’s a disgusting thing, and this is where people are being held.”

The Democratic pledge is “there is a hearing.”

“This will be accountable,” Frost said.

Wasserman Schultz was more direct.

“This place needs to close hell,” she said.

The announcement that it will eliminate artificial dyes will come less than a week after July 20th National Ice Cream Day.

play

WASHINGTON – A group of ice cream makers that produce 90% of ice cream and frozen dairy desserts nationwide, has pledged to offer many artificial food dyes by the end of 2027.

The announcement, not a week before National Ice Cream Day on July 20, will be made in conjunction with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the International Dairy Food Association, a trade group for dairy farmers, with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who defended the cause through the Make America Healthy Again Platform.

Kennedy, who has long denounced chronic health issues in America, including obesity and heart disease in the food industry, announced in April that eight artificial dyes will be phased out by the end of 2026, including those found in candies, ice cream, soft drinks and jams.

Voluntary efforts eliminate the use of certified artificial colors, which eliminates the use of Red 3, Red 40, Green 3, Blue 1, Blue 2, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6.

“I praise the International Dairy Food Association for stepping up to eliminate certified artificial colors,” Kennedy said in a statement to USA Today.. “The American people have made that clear. They want real food, not chemicals.”

Michael Dykes, president and CEO of IDFA, said he is “prideful to the ice cream makers and dairy companies that have stepped up for American families.”

According to the trade group, the average American eats about 19 pounds of ice cream, or about 4 gallons, each year. In 2024, the US produced approximately 13.1 billion gallons of ice cream.

Top 10 American Malls thriving in the age of online shopping

  • The mall remains a popular destination despite the rise of online shopping.
  • USA Today’s 10 Best Readers ‘Choice Awards determines rankings based on reader votes and expert nominations.
  • Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota was ranked as the second best mall in the United States by readers of USA Today.

Do you remember the mall? They are still there.

For decades, large, air-conditioned wonderland was a place that had a store after a store with fresh new items, a packed variety of food courts, and often a cinema. You met friends there, took your family, saw new fashions, spent the day, sat and people watched.

The mall has been struggling since online sales that does not require retailers to cover the costs of renting space in brick and mortar buildings, but has taken a major bite from revenue. According to Capital One, an average of 1,170 shopping malls are closed in the US between 2017 and 2022, with no new indoor megamals being built since 2006.

However, there are plenty of thriving malls, and USA Today ranks in the top 10.

“With a variety of store choices, appetizing restaurants in the food court, inspired entertainment options, and special events and seasonal activities that bring together the community, the mall spoke in a ranking released last month.

The winners were selected by USA Today readers from a list appointed by the 10 Best Editors and Experts panel.

So, where did “American Malls” appear on their favorite list?

Mall of America is second place

Mall of America may be the most famous mall in the entire United States, but it has been missed at the top spots in the 10 best rankings.

The iconic building is located south of Minneapolis in Bloomington, Minnesota. Its website says it is four stories tall and has over 500 homes.

Activities at the Mall of America are not shopping. Shoppers can also enjoy the theme park. The Nickelodeon Universe has over 20 rides, coupled with gift shops and food stands.

Foodies can also chew at the mall. There are restaurants such as Rainforest Cafe, Margarita Building, Boncon, noodles and office.

Mall of America is open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 9pm and Sunday from 11am to 7pm, according to its website.

Democrats use Geoffrey Epstein Fury from Magazine against Trump

0

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump and his administration have been shot in a friendly manner after a recent review of the Justice Department’s Jeffrey Epstein case file. Now, Democrats are also receiving their shots.

Rep. Marc Veasey of D-Texas is one of a handful of Democrats who are taking advantage of the new division between Trump and his foundations. Veasey said it plans to introduce a July 14 resolution calling for the release of “all files related to the Epstein case.”

Trump and top members of his administration spent years of Maga’s expectations for the scandalous Epstein “client list,” proving that in 2019 the dishonest financier didn’t commit suicide – last week defeating the base in a Justice Department report to confirm that there was no list and that Epstein took his own life.

“(Trump) and his Acolite burned rumors about the importance of these Epstein files to help his campaign. Veasey wrote in a July 13th post: “Stay or shut up!”

Trump said he supports the release of additional details from the Epstein case in his 2024 reelection campaign.

However, new memos by the Department of Justice and the FBI on July 7th do not report evidence from the client list or Epstein was murdered while in custody.

A prominent Maga figure has been furious, and many are calling for the expulsion of Attorney General Pam Bondy.

“Blondie doesn’t have President Trump and (Vice President JD Vance),” conservative activist and social media influencer Laura Rumer wrote on X on July 11th.

“Sadly, the patience of the base is now diminishing,” added Rumer.

Another close Trump ally, former White House chief strategist and podcaster Steve Bannon warned that the explosion could cost Republicans in future elections.

“It’s deeper than Epstein,” Bannon told a crowd of young conservatives at Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit on July 12.

“To make this go,” he added, “You’ll lose 10% of the Maga movement. If you lose 10% of the Maga movement right now, you’ll lose 40 seats (2026), you’ll lose your presidency.”

The Democrats certainly hope so.

With California Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna, and with Rep. Veasey, he has introduced amendments to an unrelated bill that also requires the release of documents related to the Epstein case.

The unlikely proposal to move forward in a GOP-controlled home could put Republicans in the awkward position of meeting Death and Magazine Base with Democrats and trying to get over the issues as Trump had requested.

“We’re in one team, Maga. I don’t like what’s going on,” the president wrote in a July 12 post. “We have a perfect regime, a world story, and “selfish people” trying to hurt it.

When will Starbucks pumpkin spice latte come out? This is our guess.

We still have a few weeks left in the summer, but some companies are already looking forward to the fall.

Autumn is synonymous with many things, such as football season and cool weather, but perhaps most related to one flavor, pumpkin. More specifically, autumn marks the return of pumpkin spice lattes, with Starbucks’ version having a cult following.

The Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) was first introduced to Starbucks customers in 2003 and has since become an iconic part of autumn for many coffee drinkers. For the past 20 years, customers have been eager to return their drinks to Starbucks menus nationwide, which usually occur at the end of August.

Although Starbucks has not officially announced its return date for 2025, we have looked back at the time when drinks have become available over the past few years to see if we can speculate.

Here’s an early look at when Starbucks PSL could arrive this year.

When do pumpkin spice lattes usually return to the Starbucks menu?

This is when Starbucks launched its fall menu that includes PSL over the past few years.

  • 2024: Thursday, August 22nd
  • 2023: Thursday, August 24th
  • 2022: Tuesday, August 30th
  • 2021: Tuesday, August 24th
  • 2020: Tuesday, August 25th
  • 2019: Tuesday, August 27th
  • 2018: Tuesday, August 28th

When will the pumpkin spice latte return in 2025?

Based on the above trends, which is the two most likely dates for pumpkin spice lattes to be available in 2025 Thursday, August 21st or Tuesday, August 26th.

USA Today contacted Starbucks.

What do Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes come with?

The PSL is made with espresso and steamed milk, and in addition to the real pumpkin flavor, it also comes with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. The whipped cream toppings also include pumpkin pie spices, the company says. Warm, cold, and blended to order.

A typical Grande (16 oz) PSL, made with 2% milk, two espresso shots, milk foam and whipped cream, comes in about 390 calories, 150 mg of caffeine and 14 grams of total fat.

Ice may deport immigrants to countries other than themselves

Immigration officials can deport immigrants to countries other than their own with a six-hour notice, a Trump administration memo said.

play

BOSTON – US immigration officers can deport migrants to countries other than their own with six-hour notice, the Trump administration’s chief executive said in a memo, providing a preview of how deportation could increase.

The US immigration and customs enforcement agency will wait at least 24 hours to wait at least 24 hours after someone expels them after notifying them of removal to a so-called “third country,” according to a memo made on Wednesday, July 9th.

However, as long as the person is offered the opportunity to talk to an attorney, the memo says.

The memo says immigrants can be sent to countries that have pledged not to persecute or torture them “without further procedures.”

The new ice policy suggests that President Donald Trump’s administration can move quickly and send immigrants to countries around the world.

The Supreme Court in June lifted a lower court order restricting such deportation without screening to fear persecution in the country of destination.

Following the High Court’s decision and subsequent orders from judges, the Trump administration sent eight immigrants from Cuba, Laos, Mexico, Myanmar, Sudan and Vietnam to war-torn South Sudan.

The administration has recently pressed officials from five African countries – Liberia, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania and Gabon to accept decoys from other locations, Reuters reported.

The Washington Post first reported a new ICE memo.

The administration argues that deportation from third countries will help quickly eliminate immigrants who should not be in the United States, including those who have been criminally convicted.

Supporters criticized deportation as dangerous and cruel as it could cause people to face violence, be sent to non-bonded and non-language countries.

Trina Realmuto said she is an attorney for an immigration group pursuing a class action lawsuit against such a rapid third county deportation in the National Immigration Litigation Alliance, saying she is “far from providing the statutory and legitimate process protections required by the law.”

Although deportation from third countries has been carried out in the past, the tool can be used more frequently as Trump tries to step up deportation to record levels.

During Trump’s 2017-2021 presidency, his administration deported a small number of people from El Salvador and Honduras to Guatemala.

Former President Joe Biden’s Democratic administration has signed a contract with Mexico to bring thousands of immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

The new ICE memo was filed as evidence of a lawsuit relating to Maryland resident Kilmer Abrego Garcia’s illegal deportation to El Salvador.

Researchers may have discovered the first mercury metstone

0

CNN

Researchers suspect that two metstones found in the Sahara in 2023 originally came from Mercury, making it the first identified fragment of the innermost planet of the solar system.

The most studied and most mysterious mercury of the rocky planets of solar systems is so close to the sun, it is difficult to explore even with probes. So far, only two non-white-stricken spaceships have visited. Mariner 10 was released in 1973, and Messenger was released in 2004. The third Bepicolombo is in the middle and in the middle to orbit around the planet in the second half of 2026.

Scientists have little knowledge of Mercury’s geology and composition, and have been unable to study fragments of planets that landed on Earth as erosion material. In contrast, the Meteorical Society’s database, an organization that catalogs all known metstones, has over 1,100 known samples from the Moon and Mars.

These 1,100 metstones come from when fragments were cast from the surface of the moon and Mars during an asteroid collision, before heading to Earth after traveling through space.

Not all planets are likely to eject fragments towards Earth during their collision. Venus is closer to us than Mars, but its large gravitational pull and thick atmosphere can prevent the firing of impact fragments. However, some astronomers believe that mercury should be able to produce meteors.

“Based on the amount of Lunar and Martian metstones, there should be around 10 mercury metstones, according to dynamic modelling,” says Ben Reider Stokes, a postdoctoral researcher of achondrite metstones at the UK Open University and author of a study of the Sahara Meteor study, published in the Journal of Ikuars in June.

“But mercury is much closer to the sun, so anything that has been kicked out of mercury needs to escape the gravity of the sun to reach us. It’s dynamically possible and it’s just that difficult. No one has identified the metstones from mercury yet,” he said.

Two met stones discovered in 2023 – named Northwest Africa 15915 (NWA 15915) and Ksar Ghilane 022 (kg 022), according to Rider-Stokes, a great advancement of scientists’ understanding will greatly advance. However, he and his co-authors are the first to warn of some contradictions in matching those space rocks with what scientists know about Mercury.

Northwest Africa fragment 15915, a dotted line was discovered in 2023 that the study authors believe it may originate from mercury.

The biggest is that the fragments appear to have formed about 500 million years before the mercury itself. However, according to Rider-Stokes, this finding may be based on inaccurate estimates, and a conclusive assessment is unlikely. “Until you return the material from the mercury or visit the surface,” he said.

However, there are several compositional clues that suggest that metstones may have connections to the planet closest to the Sun.

This is not the first time known metstones have been linked to mercury. The previous best candidate based on the level of interest that peaked astronomers was a fragment called Northwest Africa (NWA) 7325, reportedly found in southern Morocco in early 2012.

Rider Stokes said it was the first metstone that could be associated with mercury. “It attracted a lot of attention. Many people were very excited about it.” However, further analysis showed the richness of chromium that opposed the predicted surface composition of Mercury.

More recently, astronomers have suggested that from a small metstone that landed in over in France in 1836, a class of meteorites, called orblites, may come from the subsurface layer of Mercury. However, these metstones are not chemically compatible with what astronomers know about the planet’s surface, Rider Stokes said. “That’s what’s very exciting about the samples we’ve studied. They have the optimal chemistry to represent mercury,” he said.

Most of what is known about Mercury’s surface and composition comes from NASA’s messenger probes, which evaluated the composition of the planet’s crust from orbit. Both metstones from studies that Rider Stokes analyzed with several instruments, including electron microscopes, contain olivine and pyroxene.

New analysis also reveals a total iron deficiency in the space rock samples. This is consistent with scientists’ assumptions regarding the planet’s surface. However, metstone only contained trace amounts of agricultural quantities, minerals thought to govern the surface of mercury.

Mercury views generated using images of the main missions of the Messenger.

However, the biggest point of uncertainty remains the age of the metstone. “They’re about 4.5 billion years old,” said Ryder Stokes.

However, he said he believes that this inconsistency is not sufficient to rule out Mercurian’s origins, as the reliability of the messenger data, which is also used to estimate the era of Mercury’s surface layer.

“These estimates may not be entirely accurate as they are based on impact crater models rather than absolute age dating,” Rider Stokes said. “This does not mean that these samples are not suitable analogs for regions on the surface of mercury or for early mercury crusts that are invisible to modern surfaces of mercury.”

With more modern instruments now available, Bepicolombo, a study by the European Space Agency, which will begin studying mercury in early 2027, may be able to answer long-standing questions about the planet. And whether it has water or not.

The confirmed arrival of other planetary bodies will help astronomers understand the nature of early solar system components, Rider Stokes said. And it is especially important to identify mercury fragments.

Sean Solomon, the lead researcher of NASA’s messenger mission to Mercury, said in an email that he believes that the two metstones described in a recent paper are likely not derived from Mercury. Solomon, a part-time senior research scientist at Columbia University in New York City, was not involved in the study.

The main reason Solomon cited for his suspicion is that the meteor formed much earlier than the best estimate of the age of the rocks currently on Mercury’s surface. However, he said he still thinks the sample is research worth.

“Nevertheless, the two metstones share many geochemical properties with mercury surface materials with little or no iron, and the existence of sulfur-rich minerals,” he added. “These chemical properties are interpreted to indicate that mercury formed from the precursor material has been reduced much more chemically than the ones that formed Earth and other inner planets. The remains of the mercury precursor material may still remain somewhere in the inner solar system.

Solomon also said it is difficult to persuade the planetary science community that there are samples from Mars in the Meteorite collection, and it is difficult to accurately match the data and chemistry of Mars’ surfaces taken by Viking Probes, as well as to persuade researchers to consider the details. Moon metstones added that after the existence of Mars metstones was demonstrated in the 1980s, it was not widely recognized as being in the Metstone collection, despite the Apollo and Luna missions returning rich samples of the lunar material over a decade ago.

Once the samples were confirmed to be from the planet’s body, Solomon said that the timing of major geological processes, the history of internal melting of the body, and orbital spacecraft on the formation of the planet and the clues of early solar system processes can provide important information that is not available from remote sensing.

Rider-Stokes will continue discussions on these metstones at the Meteorical Society’s annual meeting this week in Perth. “I will discuss my findings with other scholars around the world,” he said. “At this point, we cannot clearly demonstrate that these are not mercury, so until we do that, I think these samples will remain the main topic of discussion across the planetary science community.”

Biden defends the frequent use of autopen: “I made all the decisions.”

0

play

WASHINGTON – Former President Joe Biden said that all pardons and commutes he issued in the final months of his term were his decisions and called Republicans a “liar” for claiming that he was neutralised when his aides used a signing device to sign off documents.

Biden’s comments, made in a 10-minute interview with the New York Times published on July 13, showed his most powerful response to allegations that the Biden White House granted leniency without the president’s approval. Probes from Republican enemies of the Trump White House, the Justice Department and Congress are investigating the issue.

“I made every decision,” Biden said in an interview, recreating his signature due to the vast amount of generous behavior towards people in a wide range of categories, including non-violent drug offenders. “We’re talking about a lot of people.”

Biden cut the sentences for nearly 4,000 federal prisoners in the final months of his presidency and issued preemptive pardons to potential Trump targets, including former chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff General Mark Millie and members of Biden’s family. Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, was the only generous warrant recipient that Biden signed by hand during this period.

“As you know, the autopen is legal. As you know, other presidents used it, including Trump,” Biden said, according to an excerpt from an interview released by The Times. “They’re liars,” Biden said when asked about Republicans’ claims that his White House had abused the autopen.

“They have lied very consistently about almost everything they do. The best they can do is try to change focus and focus on something else,” the former president said. “That’s consistent with Trump’s game plan all along.”

Biden dropped out of the 2024 election in July of that year after struggling to piece together consistent texts during his discussion with Trump the previous month. In May this year, Biden was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

Trump and fellow Republicans have proposed without evidence that Biden’s aides illegally used autopen, claiming that the former president cannot make generous decisions himself due to reduced mental fitness.

“I think it’s the biggest scandal in this country in the last 100 years,” Trump said last month days after ordering the Justice Department to decide who should apply Biden’s signature to generous documents.

“I don’t think he knew,” Trump said on July 14th. “I don’t think they’ve even told him about it.”

According to the New York Times, the Biden White House followed the process to establish that the president signed a verbal and generous decision before using the signing device. Stephanie Feldman, who served as White House secretary under Biden, controlled the use of the autopen. The Times highlighted an email among Biden officials who support such a process being implemented.

Biden did not individually approve each name included in the broader generous action applied to a large classification of people, aide Biden told the Times. The former president instead approved the standard to determine which prisoners should cut sentences.

Harrison Fields, the Trump White House deputy reporter general, said in a statement to USA Today when asked in an interview to respond to Biden’s claims, Biden “should not be trusted again.”

“Just the truth emerges about Joe Biden’s cognitive and physical health conditions, and in fact, the truth about who runs the country sooner or later will be revealed,” Fields said.

In December 2024, Biden notified the sentences of nearly 1,500 people placed in home confinement during the Covid-19 pandemic, and forgived 39 people convicted of non-violent crimes. The following month he notified 2,500 criminal sentences for a non-violent drug crime that he described as “disproportionately long” compared to modern writing.

Also, in December 2024, Biden issued an individual preemptive pardon to forgive Hunter Biden for a felony of guns and taxes and protect him from future charges by Trump. On his final day of office, Biden issued a similar preemptive pardon for his brother James Biden and other relatives, as well as individuals who considered Miley’s potential targets.

A former Biden aide has been summoned to Congress as part of the Biden-led House Oversight Committee’s investigation into Biden’s mental fitness and his autopen.

Last week, Biden’s former White House doctor, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, called out Fifth Amendment rights, citing the confidentiality of the doctor and client, and refused to answer a series of questions from Republicans on the committee during a closed deposition.

Former Biden aide Ashley Williamson appeared for deposit on July 11th. Neela Tanden, former Biden’s former domestic policy aide, first testified last month about autopen substances. The committee also issued a subpoena to Anthony Vernal, former First Lady Jill Biden adviser and senior adviser to First Lady Jill Biden, for appearances in the deposit on July 16th.

Searching for Texas flood victims will allow you to “get strong” for another month or two

The latest flash floods had retreated in central Texas early Monday, but forecasts for the storm later that day could result in more wounds in areas blamed for floods that have killed at least 132 people.

The National Weather Service warned that thunderstorms were projected on Monday and Tuesday, creating “excessive rainfall and potential flooding.” Flood clocks were in effect in more than a dozen counties. Among them is Carr County, where more than 100 people died when the Guadalupe River struck a bank on July 4th.

The sequester amount of 7 to 9 inches of rainfall is 2 to 5 inches, the Meteorological Bureau said. The flood clock was valid until 9pm

The storm that swept the area on Sunday prompted dozens of high water rescues in the Lampasus area, about 100 miles northeast of Kerrville. Flash flooding delayed search, rescue and recovery efforts in Kerr County.

Leesa said more than 2,000 people from multiple agencies were supporting the effort, and Governor Greg Abbott and President Donald Trump were guaranteed to provide all the necessary resources.

“How long does it take? Who knows? I think we’ll be stronger for another month or two. “We continue to have the resources and assets we need. And we’ll keep watching.”

A court for the Kerr County Commission had held its first second meeting on Monday since the floods destroyed the county 10 days ago. Local officials are being scrutinized for not installing flood warning sirens along the Guadalupe River. Carr County Judge Rob Kelly said last week that county officials considered the siren several years ago but dismissed the idea because “the public was caught up at the expense of it.”

At the meeting, Kelly asked the residents to hold back.

“We are moving towards search and rescue eyes, and search and rescue continues to be our number one priority,” he said. “It also includes recovery. As we move forward, hold on.”

The city of San Saba, about 100 miles north of Carville in San Saba County, urged residents near the river to be prepared for the water to rise. County Judge Jody Foley issued mandatory evacuations to parts of the city, noting that “the river is rising faster than July 4th.” Some roads will not be reopened until at least Tuesday, he said.

“Obviously, none of us expected to have two 70-year floods within a week of each other,” Fauley said in a video posted to social media. “Yeah, be careful about everything.”

The San Antonio Weather Services Office said early Monday that “dangerous situations” occurred in parts of Uvalde, Real, Bandera and Kerr counties, with 2-5 inches of rain falling within four hours.

“More heavy rain is ongoing. The floods are already happening,” Weather Services said on social media.

The flood warning was valid for the Guadalupe River in Hunt, a few miles west of Carville. The river is expected to reach a moderate flood stage around 11am local time, from 8.45 feet to 14.6 feet a few hours ago.

“Suppose for highlands along the riverbank,” Kerrville police warned on social media.

In the early days of July, fragments of the weather system converged to bring devastation to Texas Hill Country, turning the Guadalupe River into a monster that infuriated the banks at the time before dawn on July 4th. At least 129 people have died and at least 160 are listed as missing.

The time leading up to disaster, and the actions taken to protect the lives of those in the wrath of water, are important to understand what happened and whether more could have been done in the name of safety. Through the National Weather Services Messaging Service with Emergency Management Officers and Broadcast Meteorologists, US Geological Survey Data and other records, USA Today has pieced together the timeline of Guadalupe’s disaster. Paul Biya: Cameroonian president is trying to maintain power until his 100th birthday

Cameroon’s 92-year-old President Paul Biya has been holding the Central African nation for nearly 43 years.

“There’s still a lot going on,” said Bya, who is in Twilight in his seventh term. “The best hasn’t arrived yet,” the Cameroonian leader added in a statement on Sunday.

Biya is seeking a new seven-year term in the presidential election scheduled for October, despite reports that his health has deteriorated. He said his decision to broaden his grip on power was absent “in the urgent appeals coming from our 10 regions and the diaspora.”

His announcement comes months after his office pushed back speculation that he had either felt bad or died after a long absence from the public eye.

His health debate was later banned in the media, and the Cameroonian Interior Ministry declared it a national security issue.

For years, rumors about Bya’s health and whereabouts have been a major topic in Cameroon. However, he held the country strong and won multiple re-election victories.

Biya came to power in 1982, and has been in office for over 40 years, becoming one of the longest-serving heads of state on the planet, except for the monarch. He was the second president to lead Cameroon as he achieved independence from France and Britain in the early 1960s.

Questions swirled around the prospect of Biya, who has been seeking an eighth term since many local leaders urged him to seek a new mission. However, some of his allies left his government and began bidding for president.

Defeating Biya by vote might not come easily for his opponents, according to Germany-based political analyst Collins Molua Ikome.

Ikome told CNN that Cameroon’s opposition, which consists of over 300 political parties, is too fragmented to remove the Cameroon Democrat Movement (CPDM) party in an October poll. He said only the coalition could pose a threat to the president.

“They (opposition) don’t maintain their chances as individual candidates. If they form a transitional coalition, they may probably be,” he said.

The plan by the two opposition parties to create the coalition in March last year was called illegal by the Ministry of Home Affairs. This is what Human Rights Watch described as “part of the government’s opposition and opposition crackdown.”

Bya’s long rules have been undermined by widespread accusations of human rights abuses, including extrajudicial enforcement, arbitrary arrests, illegal detention, torture, unfair trials and persecution and imprisonment of people over sexual orientation and gender identity, according to rights group Amnesty International.
