Jennifer Love Hewitt faints on the red carpet

0

play

Corrections and Clarification: Previous versions of this story were misconceptions of the Jennifer Love Hewitt character as “knowing last summer.”

Jennifer Love Hewitt has her head turned in a rare red carpet look.

On one of the only red carpets for the past six years, the actress turned her head in a beaded black dress at the premiere of the latest film in the “I Know About Last Summer” franchise on July 14th. While debuting the copper lock, she combined her totally black look with sparkling heels and rings.

Hewitt, 46, rose to fame as Costar Freddie Prinze Jr. (49) in the original 1997 film, “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” In the film, Hewitt’s character Julie James was one of the teenage targets of the mysterious murderer.

In the 2025 version (July 18th theatre), the plot takes place in nearly 30 years when the murders wreaked havoc in the small North Carolina town. The film calls for help from the characters of Prinze and Hewitt (played by Madeline Klein, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer King, Tirik Wizards and Sarah Pigeon) – targeted by a mysterious killer – seeking help from the characters of Prinze and Hewitt.

Hewitt and Prinze were members of the semi-blat pack, including fellow Hollywood stars such as Prinze’s wife, Sarah Michel Gerard. Ryan Phillip, Johnny Garekki and Anne Heche also starred in the original.

While both the “Last Summer” series and 1998’s “Cain Ca nat bistal hape” became cult classics, solidifying Hewitt as a teenage idol in the ’90s, Hewitt was frank last year about the public’s reaction to how she grew up.

The actress said that it’s not difficult for her to accept aging, but for fans it’s a different story. “It feels like the fans chose… This age I think they represent you, I love you that you never grow beyond that,” she told Fox News, referring to a quote from Taylor Swift’s documentary, “Miss Americana.”

“It seems like people are really struggling to embrace that… I don’t look like that anymore,” Hewitt said.

“Whatever that is, you just want to have the freedom to be someone you are at that age,” added Hewitt. “And when you’re verbally rejecting you on Instagram or the internet, they have a hard time adjusting to it, so when people reject you, it’s sometimes harmful.”

Rory McIlroy’s tearful Masters victory was the most moving sport. This week could be even more emotional

0

CNN

Her hands were clenched to her head, her knees held onto the emerald grass, her chest twitching with enthusiastic, tattered breathing, Rory McIlroy looked like a man conquered by the weight of the world. He then set himself upright, lifting his head into the sky, unleashing the primitive, fist-spewing roar echoing with the seemingly indomitable release of burden.

The image of McIlroy, who won the Masters, finally captured a white whale after a grieving 17 years of chase.

Looking in tears as he discussed the prospect of returning to his Northern Ireland home and celebrating with his parents, the raw strength of McIlroy’s body language was a fitting reflection of the summit he just expanded. The victory pushed tickets for entry to the club of the sport’s most illustrious members as the sixth male golfer to complete career grand slams in all four majors.

But McIlroy cannot stir up the soul. Far from then, Green Jacket’s latest recipient believes that winning the Open Championship in Home Turf at Royal Portrush Cam could put a tribute to realizing that “lifetime dream” three months ago.

“I think it’s just as emotional to do it, if not more emotional than what I did at Augusta…and everyone saw the confusion that followed,” the 36-year-old told BBC Sports on Monday.

“Victory has a chance to resonate with greater and longer.”

He was born and raised about 60 miles (96 kilometers) away in Hollywood. This is a small town of small people, just 15 minutes’ drive from the hub shop in the capital Belfast, and was always guaranteed to receive the welcome of heroes in the 153rd edition of this week’s Major.

However, the magnitude of his spring success only ratcheted the enthusiasm of Antrim’s north coast, allowing him to see the best take on the game’s test dungle link course, hoping that as many as 290,000 spectators would bite the rain and heavy coastal winds.

Just 12 hours after finishing joint runner-up at North Berwick’s Scotland Open on Sunday, even the world’s second-placed number one shrugged four hours of sleep to become one of the first golfers of Monday’s practice round, but fans continued in large numbers.

Many paid back their dedication when the five-time major champions wrote their signs and closed the session.

“I am very grateful and grateful for the support I get from home. They really make me feel that,” McIlroy added.

“It’s a great feeling to play and experience it before it. I want to embrace that this week.”

Long before he won the crown at Augusta, the depth of national pride of the winners of the 29 PGA Tour, who framed a strong case to claim the title of Northern Ireland’s all-time sportsperson, explains how to explain how to explain how to explain why victory at the Royal Portrush is more emotional than his Masters title.

McIlroy will sign a sign for fans at the practice round of the Open Championship held at Royal Port Rush Golf Club on July 15th.

Golf Digest senior writer Joel Beal believes that home majors could surpass everything, as he already unlocked the claret jug at Royal Liverpool in 2014 and completed the set 11 years later.

“The master will always be more important because of the meaning of him as a player,” Beall told CNN Sports.

“He had so many disappointments there, and it was in the way of the Grand Slams. But on a personal level, to do this in his childhood backyard, there’s a chance that victory will resonate more than Augusta.”

The emotional stakes are also raised by the fact that McIlroy has the psychological scar tissue of Royal Portrush, as he did in Augusta.

It started very well. Just 16 years old, McIlroy integrated his reputation as a burgeoning golf genius when he rounded up the Dunluce Link with a 61-under-61 course record at the 2005 Northern Ireland Championship.

Ireland’s Shane Lowry holds the highest score of his present-day history after filming 63 to open a victory in 2019 after a massive renovation to the course earlier that year, but McIlroy’s teenage achievements endure as a key chapter in his legendary career.

But when longtime friend Laurie began to glory, McIlroy didn’t even make the weekend with the Major’s long-awaited return to venue. After seeing decades of sectarian violence known as “Trouble” beefed away from Northern Ireland, McIlroy was a centre of attention as Royal Portrush played the host for the first time since 1951, but he only saw his tournament go off the rails instantly by the opening Kuadorpur bogie-eight.

After a triple bogey in the closing, the Homestar signed off for 8 over 79, and even a great 6 under 65 wasn’t enough to cut.

McIlroy missed the weekend cut at the 148th Open Championship held at Dunluce Rink in 2019.

He was caught off guard by an ovation he received on his first tee six years ago, and the five-time major champion believes he is ready to not only deal with the worship from behind the ropes, but also accept it.

“I was still a little surprised and a little surprised, ‘Geez, these people really want to beat me,'” McIlroy recalled to a reporter Monday.

“It brings pressure like its own, brings more internally from it, and I don’t want to disappoint people. I quickly learned that one of my challenges is to control myself and control that fight, especially in a week like this.

“I probably tried to isolate myself, but I think it would be good for everyone if I accept that,” McIlroy added later. “I am happy to be able to accept the admiration despite the struggles I sometimes struggle, but it is also great for those who have met you for the first time in years.

How much inspiration McIlroy can extract from these interactions could be key to his hopes this week, Beall said.

“Rory now realizes that what he’s doing is a community experience,” he told CNN Sports. “Using that energy and making it an asset instead of weight will be a way to decide how he does it.”

The two-shot behind American Chris Gottap, second-placed McIlroy, who came in second in Scotland on Sunday, hinted at a timely return to his best play after being a slump in form by his golden standard.

Slam Capture has sparked predictions that Pebble Beach Pro-Am and already won the Player Championship in the surge-up start this year, “Shackle-Off” McIlroy could pave the way for multiple major seasons.

However, following his 47th finish at the PGA Championship, he was followed by a 19th tied exit at the US Open, pinned by a cut that was missed at the Canadian Open. McIlroy admitted on Monday that reset his goals after Mashter’s euphoria was a struggle.

McIlroy was during a practice round held at the Royal Portrush on July 14th.

“Yes, I’ll talk about the pressure being off, but whoever sits here at this table, we’re all competitors, and we all want to do better.

“I probably didn’t give myself enough time to sink it all. But that’s the nature of professional golf. They do a very good job of keeping you on the hamster wheel.

With little issues with the Ryder Cup at Beth Page Black in New York not yet coming in late September, there is plenty of opportunity for McIlroy to write more history in 2025.

“I feel like there’s still a lot left there,” he said. “The story certainly isn’t over.”

New research shows that children are asking their AI peers to solve problems. Is this the problem?

Editor’s Note: Kara Alaimo is an associate professor of communications at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Her book “Influence: Why Social Media is Toxic to Women and Girls – And How We Get It Back” was published in 2024 by Alcove Press. Follow her on Instagram, Facebook and Bluesky.

When two of James Johnson Billund’s friends got caught up in a debate earlier this year, he didn’t know what to do. So, the 16-year-old asked his fellow AI team for advice.

The AI companion is a digital character who helps parents and teachers instill critical thinking skills in their children, and is a digital character who talks to users, according to Common Sense Media, a San Francisco-based nonprofit.

The chatbot told Johnson Billund, who lives in Philadelphia, to separate his friends. He did, and it solved the immediate problem, he said. But “Now they don’t talk much.”

The experience, he said, showed him that his fellow AI “can’t find any deeper problems.” “I’m scared to ask them deep, fundamental questions.”

Another thing that hit Johnson Billund was that his AI companions always seemed to agree with him and tell him what he wanted to hear. And he found a way for them to tell them that they are creepy resemblance to humans. At one point, he said, “I forgot that he wasn’t actually my friend,” he said, “but I was talking to fellow AI members.”

New research suggests that other teenagers experience the same thing.

A survey conducted by Common Sense Media this year about over 1,000 people aged 13 to 17 years old, shows that the majority of teenagers use AI companions. Research shows that over half of teens use them regularly, with a third turning to them due to relationships and social interactions.

Furthermore, 31% of teens have a conversation with their AI peers as satisfying or satisfying as they have with others, with 33% discussing serious and important issues with their AI peers rather than with other people.

The findings shed new light on the relationships teenagers are developing with AI tools.

According to Common Sense Media, almost three-quarters of teens use AI peers.

“We are committed to providing research and research at Common Sense Media,” said Michael Robb, Head of Research and Research. “We don’t want our children to feel confident or should go to AI peers instead of children, parents, or qualified professionals,” particularly when we need help with serious issues.

Furthermore, AI peers cannot model healthy relationships. “In the real world, there are all sorts of social clues that children have to learn to interpret, get used to, and react,” Rob pointed out. However, children can’t learn to pick up things like body language from chatbots.

Chatbots are similar, Rob said. “They want to please you. They don’t put a lot of friction on the ways people in the real world may be.” If users are used to AI companions, they “are not ready when they encounter friction or difficulties in real-world interactions,” he said.

While AI peers may seem authentic, they can make children feel temporarily lonely when they interact with them, he said. However, it can reduce their human interactions and leave them alone for a long period of time.

“The interaction with characters on our site should be interactive and entertaining, but it’s important for users to remember that the characters are not real people,” said Chelsea Harrison, director of communications at popular AI companion Charition.ai. She said she couldn’t comment on the report because she hadn’t seen it yet.

The company tries to find a safe space and offers a disclaimer that the characters are not authentic and offer individual versions to users under the age of 18 designed to minimize the content of self-harm.

Another cause of concern is that 24% of teens say they share personal information with their AI peers. When children share personal struggles with their AI peers, they may not realize that they are sharing that data with companies rather than friends.

Additionally, “We often recognize these companies with very broad and lasting rights to your personal information that they can use the way they want,” Rob said. “They can change it. They can save it. They can view it. They can incorporate it into something else.”

Robb said the limitation of the study was that it was carried out at a single point in time, but people’s use of technology continues to change. He also said teens may have overreported behaviors they thought were desirable, such as using chatbots in a healthy way.

Thankfully, there are things parents can do to protect their children.

Rob said parents should start by talking to teens about their AI peers “without judgment.” “Have you ever used an app that you can talk to or create with AI friends or partners?” Before you jump into concerns, listen to learn what appeals to your teens about these tools, he suggested.

I would then recommend pointing out that “AI peers are comfortable and programmed to validate,” and discussing why it’s a concern, Rob said. Teens said, “It’s not just how real relationships work, as real friends sometimes oppose us.

Having conversations like this helps children learn to think about AI more widely in a healthy way, Rob said.

One reason I wasn’t surprised is that many teenagers use their AI peers as friends. This is because I saw in my own research how social media undermined children’s sense of friendship.

These days, children are less likely to come in person with friends than in past generations. Often, I think it’s a way to maintain a relationship, such as commenting on someone’s posts. As a result, there is less practice with offline human interacting ions.

One of the best things we can do is encourage children to come together in person with friends and other peers.

“Many of our joys in our real-life friendships are these close connections that allow us to see each other and understand each other without a word,” said Justin Carino, a New York-based Westchester, who treats young people and has not been involved in research.

“Our crashes walk in the classroom,” she said. “The teacher says something crazy. You make eye contact with your best friend. There are these nuances that we learn to communicate intimately with people near us.

When it comes to AI peers who mimic friends, the best thing parents can do is to keep teens from using them at all, Rob said.

In a Common Sense Media risk test, he said, AI showed children inappropriate content, such as sexual material. Additionally, “They were engaged in some stereotypes that were not great. They sometimes offered dangerous advice.”

Representative of Meta., He declined to comment.

Thirty-four percent of teens in the survey said they were uncomfortable with what their AI peers did or said, but Rob pointed out that teens may receive information that doesn’t bother them, but their parents didn’t want to see or hear them.

I certainly wouldn’t allow children to use AI peers before they turn 18 unless there is a way to change radically. I agree that these companies are not doing enough to protect children from harmful content and data harvesting. And she hopes her daughters will develop relationships with humans rather than with technology.

If your teens are using AI peers, it is important to monitor for signs of unhealthy use, Rob said. If teens prefer to interact with AI over humans, they suffer when they spend hours interacting with AI peers, or can use them, or withdraw from family and activities they enjoyed. These are classic signs of the problem.

In that case, we recommend seeking help from your school’s guidance counselor or other mental health professional.

It’s also important to show examples of how parents have a healthy relationship with technology, Rob said. “Show your teens what balanced technology looks like,” he said. “Take these open conversations about how you handle your emotional needs without resorting to digital solutions alone.”

This new study showing that most teens use AI peers shows why it is important to tell young people about why they need real friends rather than chatbots to validate them. Technology cannot replace humans, but it explains why Johnson Billund’s friends are no longer around.

China, North Korea and Russia represent the biggest security challenges since World War II, Japan says

0

Seoul, Korea
CNN

Japan has faced the toughest security environment since World War II, as three potential enemies – China, Russia and North Korea – have been strengthening military operations in the region, the defense minister said Tuesday.

“The existing global peace order is seriously challenged and Japan has found itself in the most serious and complicated security environment since the war,” Defense Minister Nakatani said in an introduction to the ministry’s annual defense whitepaper.

China’s military operations present Japan with “the biggest unprecedented strategic challenge,” the report says.

While Beijing is “intensifying its military capabilities in a qualitative and quantitative way,” Nakatani said it is “intensifying” regional activities, saying that the East China chain Senkaku Islands, particularly Tokyo-controlled, but Beijing claims it is being argued by Diayo.

Aerial photographs show that they are about to approach the Chinese marine surveillance vessel Heidian 66 (above) and the Japanese fishing boat (above). It was taken in a photo taken on April 23, 2013, which was next to the Chinese ships, known as the Japanese Old Man Island and the Chinese Fahrenheit Island, next to the East China Sea.

The 34-page document provides disastrous prospects for the future of the region, particularly regarding the conflict between Tokyo’s most important ally, China and the US.

“The global balance of power has changed dramatically, and competition between states continues. Interstate competition between the US and China in particular is likely to be further strengthened in the future,” the white paper states.

The paper states that escalating Chinese military activities around the democratically controlled island of Taiwan poses a threat.

“China is about to create a fait compri run by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and improves actual combat capabilities,” he said.

The South China Sea quotes a similar situation, saying that there are legal concerns in Japan as Tokyo has major ocean lanes running through the waterways.

China’s Ministry of Defense spokesman Jiang Bin said on Wednesday that Japan is “exposing the “Chinese threat” and severely interfering with China’s internal affairs.”

“The Japanese side is creating false narratives to find excuses to ease military constraints,” Jiang said, referring to Japan’s strict postwar constitution, saying that the military is limiting itself to self-defense.

And Japan’s call to World War II has been controversial in areas that rift through Tokyo’s devastating militarism during periods of sour relations with many neighbors to this day.

“We urge the Japanese side to learn more from history and to stop China from crying out and blame it,” Jiang said.

However, Japanese papers did not focus on Beijing’s unilateral actions.

The group of conflict islands, Utsuri Island (above), Mining Island (above), North Sea Island, known as Senkaku in Japan, and Ziayu in China can be found in the East China Sea. This photo was taken in September 2012.

Russia and North Korea

As part of its expanded activities, the PLA is increasing cooperation with Russian troops, including joint bombers and naval patrols near Japan, the paper says.

“These repeated joint activities aim to demonstrate their strength against Japan,” he said.

The report states that in the past fiscal year, Japanese fighter jets have scrambled 704 times, including 464 times in response to Chinese approaches to aircraft and 237 times in Russian aircraft.

Russia’s three and a half year old invasion of Ukraine is bothering Japan, particularly due to its status as an important US ally, along with the accumulation of Russian troops that accompanied it, the report says.

“The security of Europe and the Indo-Pacific is inseparable,” he said, warning that wars like Ukraine are possible in the region.

The report says some of Russia’s latest military hardware has been deployed in the Pacific Ocean.

Moscow added troops, missiles and fighter jets to the islands in northern Japan that the Soviet Union adopted towards the end of World War II, but says Japan is now sovereignty illegally occupied by Russia.

Meanwhile, North Korea is developing and delivering nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles further, the report said.

Pyongyang’s ballistic missiles, which are believed to be capable of carrying nuclear warheads, say they can cover the entire Japanese archipelago.

“North Korea’s military operations pose even more serious and imminent threats to Japan’s security than ever before,” the paper says.

The Japanese newspaper reiterated many of the concerns of US military Indo-Pacific Commander Samuel Paparo, who spoke out in an stance paper in April.

“China continues to pursue unprecedented military modernization and increasingly aggressive behavior that threatens our US homeland, our allies and our partners,” Paparo said.

The US commander also said deepening cooperation between China, Russia and North Korea is pose an increasingly threat to the Pacific.

“Together, the growing connections of these countries create complex, interconnected challenges to the national security of the United States and regional stability,” Paparo said.

Joyce Jiang from CNN contributed to this report.

Who is in the National Garden of American Heroes? What we know

0

play

  • President Trump’s “American Heroes in the National Gardens” project is being sought to raise $40 million.
  • The garden, previously revoked by President Biden, aims to feature statues of up to 250 well-known American figures.
  • The final list of numbers and garden locations has not yet been determined.

President Donald Trump’s project to build a “National Garden of American Heroes” was awarded $40 million thanks to a megaville known as the “Big Beautiful Building.”

In February, Trump announced that he ordered the creation of a new national park to display statues of “the largest American who ever lived in.” Trump signed a similar executive order in 2020, and former President Joe Biden revoked it the following year.

The order to revive the project is part of a larger initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of America’s independence, and the Trump administration hopes to complete the garden by July 2026. They are assigned historical figures to be portrayed on the statue by Neha.

So who will be commemorated with these statues? Here’s what we know:

Who is in the “National Garden of American Heroes”?

The original order suggested that statues should portray “historically significant Americans” such as scientists, civil rights leaders, police officers, labor leaders, judges, authors, and teachers.

“No one has lived a perfect life, but everything is worth paying respect, remembering and studying,” the order of 2020.

In 2021, a few days before he took office, Trump signed an order expanding his list of people to nearly 200. They include:

  • John Adams
  • Susan B. Anthony
  • Clara Burton
  • Daniel Boone
  • Joshua Chamberlain
  • Henry Clay
  • Davy Crockett
  • Frederick Douglas
  • Amelia Earhart
  • Benjamin Franklin
  • Billy Graham
  • Alexander Hamilton
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Douglas MacArthur
  • Dolly Madison
  • James Madison
  • Christa McAuliffe
  • Audi Murphy
  • George S. Patton Jr.
  • Ronald Reagan
  • Jackie Robinson
  • Betsy Ross
  • Anton’s Scalia
  • Harriet Beecherstow
  • Harriet Tubman
  • Booker T. Washington
  • George Washington
  • Orville and Wilbur Wright
  • Elvis Presley
  • Whitney Houston
  • Helen Keller

Trump’s revived order encourages presidential assistants to include other potential numbers in their yards for domestic policy, bringing the total number of respected people to 250.

The White House did not provide any updates on the final list of people included.

According to the NEH application request, the statue must be life-size and be made of marble, granite, bronze, copper or brass.

Where is Hero Garden?

The location has not been decided yet.

The 2020 order specifies that the park is located in a “place of natural beauty” close to the hub of at least one population, avoiding community disruption.

Trump first announced his plans in front of Mount Rushmore. Some people in South Dakota seem eager to bring statue gardens to the state. The mining company, which owns the land near Mount Rushmore, provided a portion of the land for Trump’s garden.

“We want to provide the same black hills that are perfect for this garden,” South Dakota Gov. Larry Roden said in a letter to Trump on March 18th. “In fact, we have a parcel of land available right in front of Mount Rushmore, ideal for this wonderful effort.”

The book examines the bonds between the United States President’s British Queen Elizabeth

0

“The Queen and Her President” analyzes the relationship between the British monarch and the 13 US presidents whom he met during his throne.

play

Washington – She was not a woman wearing a colorful hat. And the American president knew that.

Queen Elizabeth II of England, whose 70-year reign made her the longest ruler in the country, met 13 presidents over her lifetime, more than any other American or foreign head of state.

Although she was routinely underrated and her influence was discounted, the Queen is a compelling global leader whose partners in the oval office have been shaped and sometimes shaped, said veteran journalist Susan Page, author of a book on the unique relationship between Queen Elizabeth and the US president.

The Queen was a skilled diplomat – “Really, she was one of the greatest diplomats in the world, always with British interests in mind.

“That aspect of her legacy is underestimated.”

The book entitled “The Queen and Her President” will be published by Harper Collins on April 14, 2026 just a few days before 100.th Anniversary of the Queen’s birth. It documents her transformation from a shy and unsettling princess to a powerful and persuasive leader, and provides an honest assessment of the American commander. You can pre-order on Amazon.

At the beginning of her reign, Queen Elizabeth, 25, received important advice from her leader Winston Churchill that she said she would “stay close to Americans.”

She did.

From Dwight Eisenhower to Joe Biden, Elizabeth met all the American presidents in office during their reign, except Lyndon Johnson. (In 1951, when she was still a princess, she also met Harry Truman when she visited the United States on behalf of her sick father, King George VI.)

The book on the page details Elizabeth’s bond with the American leader, including speculations and reality surrounding her relationship with Donald Trump. An unexpected and authentic connection with Barack Obama – and an incredible approval for him. And her influential friendship with Ronald Reagan during the Cold War was built on a common love for horses and a conflict with the then Prime Minister of England, Margaret Thatcher.

Furthermore, the book wanted to see the Queen’s close cooperation with John F. Kennedy and how Richard Nixon asked for her help during Watergate, and to make her a relative.

In researching the project, Page interviewed three US presidents (Trump, Obama and Bill Clinton), three prime ministers (Boris Johnson, David Cameron and Liz Truss), and two first ladies (Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton). She also visited eight presidential libraries and interviewed states, foreign secretaries, ambassadors, chiefs of protocols and historian secretaries.

Page, who also wrote a biography of former First Lady Barbara Bush, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and journalist Barbara Walters, sees a common thread between Elizabeth and three other women.

All four of them were from roughly the same generation and became more prominent despite having no expectations of living a vital life, she said.

But “all four of these women ended up living these huge consequential lives that affected what happened in the world and what happened around them,” Page said.

When Elizabeth was born, her uncle, Edward VIII, was expected to become king. He did so, but he abandoned less than a year later, allowing him to marry the American Wallis Simpson. His decision to resign not only meant that Elizabeth’s father would become king, but also that he opened the door for her own ultimate superiority over the throne.

Until then, “we had no idea that she would become the queen,” Page said. Elizabeth, who passed away in 2022, witnessed highs and lows of alliances between the US and the UK, from the 1956 Suez crisis to Brexit 60 years later. A skilled diplomacy practitioner, she was able to masterfully navigate her role on the world stage and avoid public spats with the prime minister who served under her rule.

“It wasn’t her style,” Page said. “She was very active behind the scenes.”

Perhaps this is why many Americans and people around the world remember her not as a powerful world leader, but simply as a stoic woman on a tiara, and as a colorful hat.

Russia will launch “large” drone fires in Zelensky’s hometown, Ukrainian officials say

0

CNN

Russia sent hundreds of drones towards Ukraine on Wednesday, causing severe attacks in four important regions, and President Volody Mie Zelensky’s hometown to face “large” fire, officials said.

The attack, which includes 400 long-range drones and one missile, was the biggest this week, according to the number of Ukrainian Air Forces.

Multiple cities – the hometowns of Zelensky Kryvyi Rih, Kharkiv, Vinnytsia – and parts of the Odesa area suffered from the heaviest artillery fire. The Air Force said the drone’s 345 has been intercepted or invalidated.

Krivii Li, of central Ukraine, added that “the largest attack since the start of the war…” in the face of the city’s military junta, Oleksandr Bilkul, is involved in ballistic missiles and 28 drones. The onslaught caused several fires and left the city parts without electricity and water, he added.

Zelensky said Russia was targeting the city’s energy infrastructure, where 15 people were injured.

“Russia has not changed its strategy. To effectively counter this fear, we need to systematically strengthen our air defense systems, more interceptors, more decisions,” Zelensky said in a post in X.

Ihol Telekov, mayor of the city of Karkiv in the eastern part, said his city was hit 16 times in just 14 minutes during the assault.

At Vinnytsia, southwest of Kyiv, eight people were injured and two infrastructure facilities sparked a fire during the attack.

Zelensky said response efforts are still underway in some areas covered overnight.

Three deaths have been recorded in Ukraine, officials said.

Russia’s latest wave of attacks on Ukraine comes just days after policy moves from the US administration, making President Donald Trump more and more annoyed by Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Trump announced Monday that Ukraine will receive patriot missile systems via NATO as part of a new package of US weapons, signaling an economically punitive stance against Moscow, threatening “secondary tariffs” in other countries buying Russian oil.

Complementing Putin, Trump seemed angry that his overture to end the war was largely ignored in Moscow.

“My conversation with him is very enjoyable and the missiles go out at night,” Trump said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday that the threat of Trump’s sanctions was “very serious.”

“The US President’s statement is very serious,” Peskov told journalists during daily conference calls, claiming that Trump had “personally” addressed President Putin in his announcement.

“We certainly need time to analyze what was said in Washington, and if Putin thinks it needs it, he will definitely comment on it,” continued Peskov.

“For now, I can certainly say that such decisions made in person, such as Washington, the NATO countries, and directly appear to be perceived by the Ukrainian side as signals of continuing conflict, rather than signals of peace,” the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, many European foreign ministers welcomed Trump’s announcement on Monday.

“To achieve peace, we need to support Ukraine and put pressure on Russia,” said EU foreign secretary Kaja Karas, who arrived at a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Brussels on Tuesday.

“We also hope that Americans will move on sanction packages or tariffs, so that if we do so, we will put pressure on Russia to really stop this war,” Karas added.

Ukraine celebrates Trump’s weapon reversal

0

play

WASHINGTON, July 16 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump has finally found a way to prefer Ukrainian armament.

Now there’s a difficult part. I agree who will in fact abandon their valuable systems, including the Patriot missile batteries that Kiev desperately wanted.

“We’re going to make the best weapons. They’ll be sent to NATO,” Trump said Monday in his oval office.

Some patriot missile defense systems should arrive in Ukraine “within a few days,” Trump added.

The costly Patriot system is in high demand among US allies – has proven effective at destroying Russian ballistic missiles targeting Ukrainian cities.

The US has also shown enthusiasm to send additional offensive weapons under proposals with European allies, and Trump said Ukraine should refrain from attacking Moscow, but sources familiar with the issue said.

According to two sources familiar with the debate, the plan recently hatched by Trump and NATO Governor Mark Latte is being actively received from Ukraine and its allies.

Leaders in Kiev and elsewhere celebrated the loud noise changes from Trump, who had been shining and speaking about Russian President Vladimir Putin until recently.

However, since the announcement it has become clear that Trump has presented a framework – not a fleshed plan. According to 10 US and European officials, how Ukrainian support will ultimately become support for Ukraine will depend on future negotiations about who will provide which equipment.

“As always the devil is in detail with these things,” said Washington’s Northern European Ambassador.

The central question is who will donate the Patriot battery.

Why not spare the patriots?

At an oval office meeting with Trump on Monday, Latte told six countries: Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norwen, the Netherlands and Canada that they would be happy to participate in the arms purchasing scheme.

High-ranking sources at two embassies in two US countries told Reuters they personally learned the plans they had been announced. Even after closing allies, it seemed they knew the proposal in real time.

“It’s my clear feeling that there’s no accurate details given in advance, and I think the administration is just starting to sort out what it actually means,” said another European ambassador.

Kurt Volker, former US ambassador for NATO, said Trump has found a way to balance Ukraine support with Republican political reality. He said that European allies will take on the US arms supply “is very consistent with what he (Trump) said during the campaign.”

Through the campaign, Trump said he would urge European countries to spend more on defense with big applause from the Maga crowd. “You have to pay,” he said. “If they’re going to pay, we’re not going to protect you, right?”

Volker said Ukraine could ultimately receive 12-13 Patriot batteries, but it could take a year for everything to be delivered.

Requested for comment, NATO officials said the Defense Alliance will coordinate weapons delivery through a mechanism known as Ukraine’s NATO Security Assistance and Training, a NATO mission responsible for coordinating military aid in Kiev’s western side.

“Several European countries have already committed to supporting this initiative in Germany, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden, the UK, Canada and Finland,” the official said. “Details are still being discussed.”

In response to a request for comment, the Pentagon introduced Reuters to announce Trump’s Monday remarks with Latte.

The White House did not respond to requests for comment and neither did the Ukrainian or Russian embassy in Washington.

“We’re ready.”

The rapid hardening of Trump’s rhetoric on Moscow in recent weeks has been happening in increasingly firm belief, two US officials said, amid increasingly firm belief that Putin is not engaged in honest negotiations.

“At some point, you know, you don’t talk at the end. It has to be an action. It has to be an outcome,” Trump said in a meeting with Latte on Monday.

One official said Trump noticed Putin’s ambitions spread across four eastern regions of Crimea and Ukraine.

Three Russian sources near the Kremlin said they believe Putin, who has not stopped the war under Western pressure and survived the toughest sanctions imposed by the West, can withstand further economic hardships, including Trump’s Monday threat of impose US tariffs targeting Russian oil.

Three U.S. officials currently involved in weapons issues said the actual work will begin.

Currently, US officials are in discussion with NATO allies who are willing to send what they will send to Ukraine.

European officials are widely accepted.

“We are ready to participate,” Danish Foreign Minister Lars Locke Rasmussen told reporters in Brussels on Tuesday ahead of a meeting of European Union ministers.

One official cited Germany, Greece, the Netherlands and Spain as good candidates to send Patriot batteries to Kiev, as they have multiple batteries or the threat they face are relatively far apart.

Some, including Greece and Spain, have previously resisted appeals from their allies, providing Ukraine with a portion of their patriot system and claiming it is essential to protect their country and the entire NATO.

Trump’s move to trust the additional weapons heading towards Ukraine created mild friction in Europe.

“When we pay for these weapons, that’s our support,” said EU foreign policy director Kaha Karas, who spoke after the Brussels meeting and added that he welcomed Trump’s decision.

“So it’s European support and we’re doing everything we can to help Ukraine… I promise you to give us a weapon, but if someone else says they’re going to pay for it, is it really not given by you?”

One official said the Trump administration will look at NATO stocks to see what is available. Their next effort is to try and persuade the allies to give Ukraine their attributes equipment in exchange for some sort of “trade,” officials said.

Trade could be a variety, including officials waiving impending acceptance of military equipment through foreign military sales programs and sending ammunition to Ukraine in exchange for an early restocking date.

Trump told reporters there is one country with 17 patriots, some of which will go directly to Ukraine.

The figures have caused widespread confusion between European allies and Capitol Hill, according to US and European officials – many of which have not been explained.

While NATO members, except for the US, do not say they have that number of patriot systems, two sources familiar with the issue have sparked speculation that Trump may refer to certain patriot elements, such as launchers and missiles.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who visited the Pentagon on Monday, said the Germans will discuss sending patriot batteries to Ukraine in the coming days or weeks. However, the Patriot system will not arrive in Kiev for months, he said, but it is likely to delay receipts until months after the tactically important summer.

Another source said Trump has been a “squeeze” so far, but is directly engaged in negotiations.

“So far, people have said, ‘We can help,'” the official said.

“We don’t know what that means now.”

By following these guidelines, you can change your health from head to toe, research suggests

0

According to a new study, overall health can fall into just seven factors.

Life’s Simple 7 is the American Heart Association guidelines for achieving and maintaining ideal cardiovascular health. Factors include smoking, a nutritious diet, regular exercise, healthy weight, optimal blood pressure, controlled blood sugar, and well-controlled cholesterol.

In a meta-analysis published in the American Heart Association Journal published Wednesday, the researchers reviewed 483 studies on the effects of maximizing the simplicity of life on the health of many different physical systems.

Data show that maintaining the ideal level of at least three simple seven metrics of life, whether someone had a genetic predisposition, was associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, even if someone had a genetic predisposition. And better scores across all factors showed benefits in many physical systems beyond cardiovascular health.

“A few years ago, I learned that heart health and brain health are very closely linked. Through this review, I found that almost all organ systems and physical functions also benefit from maintaining the simple 7 healthy lifestyle behaviors of life.”

“We were surprised to find that the simple seven of life at the optimum level touched every aspect of health, from head to toe, to include overall health beyond cardiovascular health,” she added.

Eating plant-based foods can help with heart health, according to Dr. Noor McCalem of Columbia University.

Noor McCalem, co-leader of the Chronic Disease Unit at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City, said the researchers conducted a systematic review of the research that follows a gold standard approach. Macalem was not involved in the research.

One of the most important findings of the study is that a little change in terms of lifestyle and health makes a big difference, Aguyo said.

In this study, we evaluated compliance with Life’s Simple 7 using a scale of 0 to 14 points.

Each one-point improvement was associated with an 11% reduction in the risk of dementia, a 6% reduction in the risk of eye disease, a 23% reduction in the risk of fatty liver disease, and an 11% reduction in the risk of chronic kidney disease, Aguyo said.

“This means small changes that go from obesity to overweight, for example, to add physical activity even if the recommended level is counted as progression,” she said.

Data show that many of the studies are related to maintaining brain and lung function, vision and hearing, and muscle strength during the course of aging.

The studies included in the meta-analysis used Life’s Simple 7 to assess lifestyle behavior, but the AHA subsequently updated the metric to Life’s Essential 8.

McCalem said the new guidelines are more comprehensive. Dash represents a dietary approach to stop hypertension. Hypertension is a major contributor to heart disease and stroke.

Importantly, he added that the update adds an eighth indicator of recognizing the role of sleep in long-term health.

According to the AHA, sleep means 7-9 hours per night for most adults, 10-16 hours for children under 5 years old, 9-12 hours for children aged 6-12 years old, and 8-10 hours for adolescents aged 13-18 years old.

This study confirms adoption It’s important to achieve a healthy lifestyle Optimal health and management Traditional risk factors for cardiovascular disease – weight, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels, Aguayo said.

Adding a little exercise can also be helpful.

Daily lifestyle choices have a significant impact on your overall health and it is worth taking steps to improve your cardiovascular health, Aguyo said.

“The important message is that it’s not too early or too late to make small, viable changes,” she said in an email. “Slight improvements in diet, physical activity, smoking, or risk factors management (weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, sugar) can provide meaningful benefits for all your body, not just your heart health, but your head to toe.”

For a heart-healthy diet, macarem is a good idea to focus on plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, and consume lean proteins such as fish. She also recommended limiting drinks that are enriched in processed foods, sodium and sugar.

Adults should engage in 150 minutes of moderate physical activity, such as walking, dancing and gardening, or 75 minutes of active physical activity per week, McAlem added.

Ideal cardiovascular health is extremely rare given how small impactful changes can affect them. Less than 4% worldwide meet the criteria, Aguyo said.

“We need to do more to make young people, especially women, easier and more affordable. It can be achieved for all to improve cardiovascular health,” she added. “Cardiovascular disease remains the number one murderer of women. Supporting young people and women’s heart health is cost-effective and right.”

LOS ANGELES – Longtime “American Idol” music director Robin Kay and her musician’s husband Tom Delca were found dead in their Southern California home, authorities said.

On July 14th, around 2:30pm, officers conducted a welfare check at their home in Encino, California after reporting that they had not heard from residents for several days. The officer later entered the residence, discovered two bodies, and was later identified as 70-year-old Kay and Delca (70).

The officer was called on July 10th a few days ago due to a “possible suspected robbery at the residence.” However, no mandatory entrances or signs of trouble were found, LAPD said. Investigators now believe the suspect entered the residence that day through an unlocked door, and believe the couple returned to their home while the suspect was still there.

“The suspects took their lives as the conflict continued,” LAPD added. “The victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and the suspect escaped from the residence on foot.”

The suspect, identified as Raymond Boudarian, 22, of Encino, was arrested in connection with the incident. Investigators are determining whether Boudarian has a relationship with the couple and whether Boudarian was involved in past service calls to Encino’s home.

The investigation is ongoing, Los Angeles police added. USA Today contacted the official Los Angeles County defender who previously represented Boudarian for comments.

TMZ first reported the couple’s death.

“The foundation of the idol family since 2009”

A spokesman for “American Idol” confirmed Kay and DeLuca’s death to today’s USA Today on July 15th.

“We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband, Toms, having passed away,” the spokesman said in a statement. “Robin has been the cornerstone of the idol family since 2009 and has been truly loved and respected by everyone who contacted her. Robin will stay in our hearts forever.

Kay began his 16-year stint as the idol’s music director in season 8. This was achieved with Chris Allen as the winner in 2009. She was accompanied by clearing the music for use in competition shows through the recent season 23, crowning Jamal Roberts as the winner on May 18th.

Kaye has received several acclaim, including the Reality Television Award for Best Music Director in 2014.

Stolen small plane wheel Vancouver airport controller ground flight and pilot cancel landing

0

The stolen civilian plane temporarily closed airspace over Canada’s busiest Vancouver International Airport on Tuesday.

Cessna 172 took off from Victoria International Airport, where it was used for flight training and began to fly about 40 miles north to Vancouver and turn.

“There’s an aircraft that’s hijacked and is located near the airport,” the Tower Controller warned other planes in a recording on the website liveatc.net. “You have the ability to move at your discretion, just in case something begins to move towards you.”

People on the ground saw the plane immersed low, and air traffic controllers moved the other aircraft out of the way.

One of those planes was the Westjet Airlines Boeing 737. This was directed to abort the landing so that “Rogue 172” crossed about four miles in front of them.

“He was making a fairly radical turn at low altitude,” witness Paul Henney told CBC, partner at the CNN News investigation. “I’m amazing, is he in trouble?”

The stolen plane eventually landed safely at Vancouver International and was soon surrounded by police. The suspect, not identified by the authorities, was the only person inside and was arrested.

“A security incident involving a small civil aircraft in the airspace near YVR has prompted a temporary ground stop for the arrival of the aircraft,” the airport said in a statement. The plane was stopped arriving for 39 minutes, and nine planes were converted to other airports.

Police and the airport did not provide any motivation or other explanations as to why the plane was stolen.

The White House praised nn-out for switching to beef tallow. I didn’t do that.

play

An April Fool’s Day joke, created by a fast food fan account, got caught up in a White House press release when the Trump administration falsely claimed that the burger chain’s n-out burger had moved to using beef tallow for cooking.

With the title “President Trump Delivers With Maha Push,” published on July 14, the White House touted recent changes made by major food and beverage companies, including Kraft-Heinz, Pepsico and Tyson Foods, in response to the administration’s “Make America Healthy” initiative.

Among the announcements on the removal of synthetic dyes and additives was one breaking point claiming that the California-based fast food chain has “transferred to 100% beef fat,” accompanied by a link to a post on his previous Twitter, X.

“It’s official. In-n-out moves to 100% pure beef tallow. The change is set to take effect on 05/01/2025 at all in-n-up locations,” read the April 1st post.

However, the message was not from the official In-N-Out account. In fact, it is shared by the fan account @innoutburger_. It features the display name “We are not affiliated with in-n-out. This is a fan account that posts accurate and up-to-date information” and “Fun In and Hamburger.” The account has a blue checkmark, making it a feature available for purchase when Elon Musk took over the social media platform in 2022.

Following the original post, two more people made it clear as a joke on April Fool’s Day. “To be clear, I might not have seen my follow-up post, so to be clear, another post came in. This was an April Fool’s Day joke.

At the time, it had accumulated five million views and was causing confusion among thousands of commenters.

beef in-n-out using sunflower oil for fries, not tallow

In-N-Out told USA Today in a statement Tuesday that the chain has not changed how it fryed.

“The information was recently published with an error indicating that the in-n-out burger has moved to beef tallow to cook fries,” said Chief Operating Officer Denny Wernick. “We continue to work on upgrading to our current sunflower oil, but have not made any changes yet.”

The White House subsequently removed the claim from the updated release, citing a Good Morning America article on May 16, leaving an accurate statement that In-N-Out “agree to remove synthetic food dyes and artificial flavors from menu items.”

USA Today reached the White House for comment.

Some restaurants are jumping on the trends in beef veterinarians

Some restaurants, including fellow fast food chain steak’n shakes, have switched to frying food with beef tallow in recent months. The rendered beef fat is a favorite of human and medical services secretary RFK Jr., who publishes to use eateries instead of seed oil, known as “one of the most unhealthy ingredients found in food.”

Steak’n Shake announced the Switch in March, and in a social media post at the time, “Steak’ N Shake is proud to support Maha and his secretary Kennedy! RFK responded to this post, thanking the restaurant for “Crusades Leadership to Make America Healthy Again.”

Other chains that have chosen to use beef for deep frying include Smash Burger, Popeye, Buffalo Wild Wings and Outback Steakhouse.

According to Mayo Clinic, beef tallow is a favorite as an excellent source of saturated, single-saturated and polyunsaturated fats, and fat-soluble vitamins can provide health benefits like immune support. However, ju umpires are still out among experts who determine whether beef tallow is overall better than seed oil.

University of Michigan under investigation after Chinese scientist’s arrest

0

The investigation comes after three Chinese people bound at the University of Michigan were accused of smuggling biological dangers into the US

play

Detroit – The Trump administration is investigating potential foreign influence at the University of Michigan, claiming that the school is indifferent to national security concerns raised by the FBI.

In a letter sent to the university on July 15, the US Department of Education took over 30 days to the university over five years of records related to foreign contributions, foreign research cooperation, international students and visas, and the names and contact information of school staff who oversee all of them.

The letter states that the university has received $375 million in foreign funding since 2020, and is delayed in reporting about $86 million of that amount. The letter also states that schools spend more than $2 billion each year on research, with about half of which coming from the federal government.

“In addition, many of UM’s disclosure reports appear to include transactions in which counterparties were misidentified as non-government by UM,” wrote Paul Moore, the Department of Education’s chief investigative advisor.

The university must submit a six-month report to the department detailing foreign contacts and funding. According to the letter, a review of the university’s filings “disclose that incomplete, inaccurate and premature disclosures may have been filed by UM, as it may violate the statutory disclosure obligation of a foreign funding.”

University spokeswoman Colleen Mastoney said in a statement that the school is committed to advancing knowledge and serving the people of Michigan and the world.

“The University of Michigan is responsible for a very serious compliance with the law and will fully cooperate with federal agents,” she said. “We strongly condemn actions that aim to cause harm, threaten national security, and undermine the university’s important public mission.”

The investigation is the latest battle between the Trump administration and schools, including the use of anti-Semitism, diversity, equity and inclusion on campus.

The Ministry of Education cites recent incidents involving Chinese scientists

According to Reuters, universities with ties to China are also under federal scrutiny, so China may be using a publicly- and federally-funded research environment in the US to circumvent export controls and other national security laws. In May, State Department spokesman Tammy Bruce said the US would not tolerate university “exploitation” through research from the Chinese Communist Party or US and theft of intellectual property.

The Department of Education investigation comes after three Chinese people were recently charged with attempting to smuggle dangerous biological materials into the United States for use at the University of Michigan Institute.

In June, federal authorities accused two Chinese scientists of smuggling into the United States, denounced the “dangerous” fungi that cause crop diseases, allowing one of them to study the pathogen in a university lab. A few days later, another Chinese scientist was charged with allegedly submitting biological materials related to roundworms for research at university.

“Despite a history of the University of Michigan’s vulnerability reduced foreign influence, recent reports reveal that UM’s research lab remains vulnerable to obstruction,” Moore said in a separate statement.

The Ministry of Education letter also said in January that the university closed the joint research institute that it ran with Shanghai Ziaoton University after Rep. John Mourenar, a Republican from Caledonia, had highlighted its schools’ ties with the Chinese military.

“UM continues to substantial research collaboration with Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University and Zhjiang University. All universities are deeply involved in China’s emerging science and technology research efforts that are directly linked to military programs,” the letter states.

According to the letter, Ann Qi Lin, director of the University of Michigan Center for China Studies, met with the FBI director in December 2022, accusing her of exaggerating the threat of technology transfer in the academic environment.

“Lynn’s claims seem unthinkable,” Moore wrote in the letter. “Lin’s apparent indifference to national security for the US taxpayers, the biggest single source of funding for UM’s annual research spending, is particularly volatile.”

The mastermind of the university admissions scandal has allowed businesses to resume

0

After spending time in prison, the judge says that William “Rick” singer can consult with university applicants again, as long as his past is known to his clients.

play

William “Rick” singer, the silver-haired mastermind of a national college admissions scandal that landed children from wealthy families at elite schools, could open a new counseling business if he discloses his criminal past to his clients, according to court documents not on sale on July 15.

The singer was placed in prison in connection with charges that included assault, money laundering and fraud in connection with the 2023 “Operation Varsity Blues” scandal. U.S. District Court Judge Dennis J. Casper ruled that the singer could be re-instated in the college entrance business, provided that he shares a statement detailing his crimes.

“Mr. Singer has acknowledged, among other things, that standardized test supervision and administrators are bribing to cheate on university entrance exams,” the statement reads in part. “The singer won over $25 million from his clients. From there, he paid his conspirators for over $7 million in total, transferring, spending or using more than $15 million for his own profit.”

The judge’s ruling allows singer to run ID Future Stars, a university admission and life coaching service that boasts on its website that singer’s team “lead thousands of students and special talent candidates.”

Casper announced his ruling on July 14th. This requires the singer to provide clients with a copy of a statement detailing his crimes and to make it visible on the company’s website. It appears that the company’s homepage has not posted a statement as of July 15th.

“It’s fine,” says Singer’s lawyer.

The verdict comes after the singer worked with federal prosecutors to work with wealthy families involved in enrollment plans in prison after serving in prison. In a statement, Aaron Katz, the singer’s lawyer, said his client “has no problem with advising current and future clients about his past actions,” adding that “he had done so before the court’s decision.”

The company’s website has long included singer Mea Culpa.

“I’m not afraid to share who I am, who I am, how I want to make mistakes, take full responsibility, and share my expertise, passion, and desire to help shape the next generation of leaders,” the statement reads. “We will continue to take advantage of our deep relationships with respected decision makers at universities and universities, but we will not be staying because we live in good condition.”

Court records show that the singer’s lawyers proposed a rather detailed version of the statement that Casper ultimately determined he had to share. The singer’s lawyer in the court application has called the government statement “embarrassing penalty” designed to embarrass the singer and prevent others from being associated with him or a future star. ”

What should a singer tell his client?

The singer pleaded guilty in 2019 in relation to the scheme, bribing SAT and ACT supervisors and allowing them to add fake awards, extracurricular activities and essays to their student’s university applications. He also bribed university athletic coaches and administrators through program contributions, and designated applicants as athletic recruitment based on the work-on athletic outcomes.

The ruling requires the singer to display detailed statements explaining what he made a mistake on the company’s website and share a written copy of the statement with parents, students and other clients. He also said the singer has made at least $15 million, according to a statement.

A federal judge in Boston declared the singer in 42 months in prison in 2023, ordered him to pay more than $10 million in reparations and confiscate $8.7 million, the statement said.

What did varsity blues mean to university?

The singer’s nationwide scheme has shaken the world of higher education. The incident ultimately led to dozens of guilty pleas, including Hollywood stars Felicity Huffman and Lori Laughlin. The Justice Departments involved include Yale, Stanford University, University of Southern California, Wake Forest and Georgetown.

More than 50 people, including wealthy CEOs and well-known celebrities, have been indicted in Varsity Blues, the largest university entrance case ever filed by the Justice Department.

Some of the con artists pretended to be disabled, while others took their faces on the bodies of various students. Then, one Florida man was sentenced to four months in prison for secretly taking the SAT or ACT exam on behalf of a student or modifying his answers after taking the exam in Texas or California.

Despite the scandal revelation, the same man disease continues that some parents worry about how to lead their children to a particular school. And the number of applications to the richest and most selective universities continues to increase.

“He discovered, in a way, it’s the perfect industry for anyone looking for a second chance,” Jeff Seringo, bestselling author of a book on university admissions, told USA Today in 2024 after the singer launched a new admissions venture. “There are no regulations, no licenses, and parents’ anxiety is higher than ever.”

Tiebreakers are cool, MLB drafts are lame

Atlanta – if you’re just enjoying plotting the end of baseball mise, and in an epic sense, Western civilization – it was all neatly summed up in a moment in an hour at Truist Park.

The fake brick-hitting line drive, just to the right of the Fundayer ad, was a key moment in a home run hit contest, and was once intended to lead a life in a culturally dominant midsummer classic.

A little heavy, huh?

Well, that’s like how this 95 feltth The All-Star Game went on to additional innings, and was determined for the first time by swing-offs. This replaced the Mega Roster and managed to replace the game’s former state of affairs, at least until it ended in Thailand before the bewildered Bud Selig in 2002.

But the game always seems to win. Mainly thanks to the arena stars that appear to produce epic feats, regardless of form. On the night, Kyle Schwarber’s three homers stood up to the National League “winning” after American leaguer Jonathan Aranda’s bullet line drive hit Brick rather than seated on three swings. They were 7-6 winners as Aranda followed with a harmless pop fly that sent the NL down to the first baseline and into the swinging mass (4-3 on the penalty swing).

For some reason, it all worked out. It could be the theme of the All-Star week, which was sometimes very sweaty, confusing, and others were fresh and enjoyable. So, A (or at least Cobb County) All-Star Week winners and losers:

Tiebreaker swing off

Various button MLB pushes on the Rob Manfred Era often serve two purposes. Gnashing of teeth and subsequent practical acceptance.

It was fascinating to discover things that no one could understand, from casual on your contact list to superstars on the field. “To be honest, there was no clue to this,” Giants pitcher Logan Webb said. However, since 2022, the swing-off – the Derby after the Derby – has been featured in the book.

They just didn’t have to break the glass yet in an emergency, and Tuesday’s emergency saw Robert Suarez and Edwin Diaz blew a two-run, nine-inning NL lead.

Innings baseball has its appeal, but it has a certain death marching element. And in the All-Star Game, honestly, the rest of the pitchers are about to put out a batsman who hasn’t yet flew around the private jet to their final All-Star break destination.

No, we weren’t “stolen” of dramas that didn’t watch the clash between Shane Smith and Hunter Goodman at the bottom of 11.thin one scenario, the manager might not have the freedom to burn all the pitchers before the end of the game. And about half of the 41,702 people who attended left, but the rest were well involved in swing-off OOH and AHHS.

Kyle Schwarber

Philadelphia’s No. 1 Phillies’ worst guy seems universally respected in the game, and his ability to shoot three batting practice pitches and put them all in the seat literally gets results on the line, going to his excellent skills and ability to concentrate.

The man was a year-end free agent, and his late-night power show was a good explanation of why even fake games come and get paid Superstars’ money rather than DH money.

If swingoffs expose anything to casual fans, that means the All-Star Starter (usually the game’s biggest superstar) has long beaten the rushing path to the airport by the end of the game. Hey, they got a place to burn and a burning money, and that’s their break time.

So the team locks three swing-off participants in advance to know who is in the 10 peopleth Innings – And no, it’s almost certainly not Judge Aaron and the shoes hei ohtani.

But whenever he’s on the roster, Mets slugger Pete Alonso relies on himself. The two-time Home Run Derby Champion is an avid rival and ball lover.

And there’s a difference between a guy who both loves baseball and is very good at it and the man in which the latter is the only qualifier.

That doesn’t mean that players who begged from this All-Star Game (not that over 80 people were eventually nominated for the roster) don’t love it. Rest is important, and uninfringed injuries are very realistic.

But having a star that wants to be here is never a pain.

“That’s an honor for me,” Alonso says. “A certain person, if they’re being slammed, it’s circumstance. But I’m healthy, I’m grateful, and it’s a great event. For me, it’s something to come.”

Sometimes the player has his Star is Born Year and backs it up with an All-Star Game, which is expected to serve as his platform. Think of a judge in 2017.

Raleigh cried out to Blake for his first half home run of AL Record 38, his curiosity to be an outrage judge for Switch Hit Catcher, and his best nickname in the game.

His Home Run Derby Championship is a compelling story, an astonishing feat, giving him a legitimate star at a front post in the Pacific Northwest that is too often neglected.

Dino Ebel

He may be the greatest batting practitioner of all time, or at least the most decorated one. Ebel is the soft tosser for two home run derby champions, Vladimir Guerrero Sr. in 2007 and Tescar Hernandez in 2024 – approaching midnight on Tuesday, he climbed midway through the Truist Park mound and threw cookies to Stalker and Schwaber.

Four of the six pitches were seated.

“Put “w” next to Dino’s name,” says Dodgers and NL manager Dave Roberts, whose Ebel is the 3 base coach. “Well, there’s no more paper, but Dino should win. Absolutely.”

That’s only half. On Sunday night, Ebel’s son Brady was drafted 32nd Overall, Milwaukee and he have another young man, Trey, who is a potential customer who has been praised for the 2026 draft. Let’s say mid-July was very good for Eberkran.

loser

It remains Manfred’s pet project, and the optics hold it alongside All Star Week. A ample space filler wearing expensive fanatic gear is willing to fill hundreds of chairs and create well-made television shows. And slide the draft into the most desirable TV slot in the sport – replacing the overnight baseball with Sunday nights ensures that the in-person product is well-rated, even if it resembles the village of Potemkin.

But it was an undeniable set-off, and it showed just everything Zero’s prospects dress up for the show and ready to grab Manfred and laugh. They certainly have their reasons. They have greater uncertainty to be involved in baseball drafting compared to NFL and NBA cohorts, even advisors who do not like to lose leverage on draft teams.

No one wants to be stuck in a green room for a few hours. In particular, he is 18-year-old, who holds the money for the bonus pool until the moment the person in charge is selected.

Manfred is probably the only baseball person who wants to drag the process in mid-July, a player who flows deep into the summer that can make the whole thing in early June.

Pat McAfee, or the person who decided to loop him into a festival

That was strange.

What is usually a rather dark process – the pre-match All-Star press conference, when the starting pitchers and lineup were announced, received a surprising accusation when McAfee, the sleeveless ambassador for ESPN’s young demographic, was on stage to ease the session.

It’s difficult to fake baseball. McAfee was fine, but the whole press was simply odd. The presence of Paul Skenes allowed McAfee to lean against the Yinzer Shetick, but helped him not to save him from Ketel Marte’s mispronunciation.

And then, after the troubling voting law passed, a reporter’s investigation into baseball’s unexplained decision to bring the game back to Atlanta – and the general abdication of the attitude towards social issues that are important to Dodgers fans, McAfee tried to convey the whole exchange.

He was also tapped to showcase participants in the Home Run Derby that night. This is one of ESPN’s most important broadcasts. Everything slammed everything that McAfee signed all inventory and MLB eagerly (desperately) signed to cash some of its cultural currency.

Phillies

Hey, they’re on the next All-Star Week clock and the pressure is on. This game takes place in less than two weeks every six months in the country, and all the midsummer classics that came before it may not be enough for foreigners from America to be enough red, white, blue.

Kyle Schwarber is also a free agent. As this 95th The game showed some things you can’t just get away.

Bradley John Murdoch passed away at the age of 67, and the mystery of Peter Falconio’s body has not been solved

Brad Legion Murdoch, known as the “outback killer,” who was found guilty of killing British backpacker Peter Falconio, who disappeared in central Australia 24 years ago, said he died Wednesday. He was 67 years old.

Murdoch passed away Tuesday night at the Palliative Care Unit at Alice Springs Hospital, according to a statement from the Northern Territory Corrections Department. He was diagnosed with terminal throat cancer in 2019 and was recently transferred from Alice Springs Prison to hospital.

His death did not solve the mystery of Falconio’s body’s location. Territory police did not immediately respond to questions from the Associated Press whether Murdoch provided clues before his death.

In 2005, Murdoch was convicted by the Supreme Court of Darwin’s territory in the 27-year-old murder of Falconio, 28, from Huddersfield, Yorkshire, at the age of 27, who attempted to lure Falconio’s girlfriend Jo Ann Leeds in 2001.

The crime attracted global attention and was one of the inspirations for the 2005 Australian horror film Wolf Creek, about a serial killer who caught a backpacker and left a witness who became a suspect.

Leeds, who wrote about her ordeal in her 2006 memoir, No Tunding Back, accused police of treating her as a suspect in the years before Murdoch was indicted.

The court’s orders feared it could prevent the release of the film in the Northern Territory during Murdoch’s trial and could affect the ju-decision. Murdoch, who was arrested in the case in 2003, was not charged with any other murders.

Maintain his innocence

Murdoch consistently maintained his innocence and did not help authorities search for Falconio’s body.

At the time of the murder, Murdoch was an interstate drug runner who used amphetamines to sleep on days of driving and marijuana.

On the night of July 14th, 2001, he tricked Falconio and Leeds into stopping the camper van on a dark, far-flung highway north of Alice Springs.

Leeds saw her boyfriend leave the van and inspected the exhaust pipe that was likely to spark. She heard the gun shot and testified that she had never met her boyfriend again.

Murdoch, 193cm tall (6 feet, 4 inches), tied his wrists with a cable tie before escaping in a desert scrub for hours. She testified that she was watching Murdoch looking for her with a flashlight and his dog.

Leeds later waved the truck and raised the alarm.

Last month, police doubled the reward for information that led to $500,000 ($330,000) in Falconio wreckage following news that Murdoch was in palliative care.

“The police hope that someone can provide some important information to assist in this search,” said police commander Mark Greave. He added that over the years he spent in prison, Murdoch had not revealed where his victim’s bodies were located.

Colleen Gwynne, a former police officer who led the investigation during Falconio’s loss of failure, said Murdoch may have panicked after Lees escaped and forgot what he had done with his body amidst the chaos.

“When that panic began… he might have disposed of his body somewhere.

In 2005, Murdoch was sentenced to life in prison for Falconio’s murder and ordered to serve at least 28 years ago, where parole could be considered. He was also sentenced to six years in prison to be served simultaneously to attack Leeds.

The earliest he could have applied for parole would have been in 2032, but it was unlikely that Murdoch was released without providing information about what he did with Falconio’s body. The territory passed the law in 2016 to prevent prisoners convicted of murder from being eligible for parole unless they provide police with the location of the victim’s body.

Murdoch was born in Geraldton, the west coast town of Geraldton, the third child of an auto mechanic and his wife, the hairdresser.

As a teenager, he was involved in a biker gang crime and was first sentenced to prison for being shot in 1995 by an indigenous group in Fitzroy Crossing, Western Australia. He was sentenced to 21 months, 15 months.

After judging Murdoch for Falconio’s murder, Judge Brian Martin said he doubted words that could express the trauma and fear that Reese had suffered.

“It must have been close to the worst nightmare you could imagine,” the judge said.

Deja Foxx, Arizona Who will run for Congress at 25?

Activist and social media personality Deja Foxx is short for a Democrat nomination in place of stubborn Democratic Rep. Raul Glyarva, a Southern Arizona Democratic Party who died of lung cancer in March.

The 25-year-old was one of three main candidates for the July 15 Democratic primary, led by Adelita Griarba, the former Pima County supervisor and daughter of the late representative, on Tuesday night.

Grillarva led FOXX to 18,929 as of 11:30pm, according to the Arizona Secretary’s Office. The Associated Press estimates that around 65% of the votes are counted and is called Grillarva’s race.

The winner of Tuesday’s primary is a favorite heading from southern Arizona to Washington as Democrats have secured seats since it was created following the 2000 census.

Here’s what you need to know about Deja Foxx:

Who is Deja Foxx?

According to her campaign website, Foxx was raised in Tucson by a single mother and experienced homelessness in childhood due to her mother’s struggle with substance abuse.

When FOXX first became viral prominent in 2017, she challenged then-Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake directly at City Hall for his stance on birth control and abortion.

“As a planned parent-child patient and someone who relies on Title X, I wonder why the right to take away someone you are clearly not, a planned parent and access it is your right to access it,” Foxx said. “If you can explain it to me, I’ll appreciate it.”

Flake announced his retirement later that year.

According to Politico, Foxx worked for Kamala Harris’ 2020 presidential election and held the Harris Party members at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

The FOXX part of the young democratic wave

FOXX is one of a wave of young Democratic candidates who say they are looking to remake the party that lost the White House last November.

David Hogg is a Democratic activist and former co-director, a leader worthy of us, his political group, and supports FOXX in the primary.

Two Democrat senators from Arizona approved Grijalva. This is a move that described the Republic of Arizona, part of the USA Today Network as “thumbs to the size of my race,” along with independent left-wing senators and progressive Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Fox’s stance leaps to the left of the Democratic Union, with her website saying “housing is a human right” and seeking a federal minimum wage of $17 an hour.

Her previous work in the Democrats is in contrast to democratic socialists with challengers who allied in the US, including New York City mayor Zoran Mamdani and Minneapolis mayoral candidate Omar Fate.

Foxx told the Republic that voters could decide whether Grijalva’s political experience or whether her living experience, which relies on government programs, is more important on a major day.

“She didn’t rely on Medicaid, food stamps or section 8 homes. That’s what Donald Trump has in his crosshairs,” Foxx said. “That’s the depth I think most politicians lack… They don’t know what it’s like to argue what you live and discuss what you need to get through.”

FOXX rejects “influencer” labels

Foxx told the Republic earlier this month it would reject the influencer label.

“I think people labeled me an influencer in an attempt to downplay the work I do,” she said. “My first video that went viral so far, and the subsequent drum beats of the viral video I had had had something to do with my advocacy work on the ground.”

She told the newspaper that she believes it is reductive to label her as simply an online personality.

“Every save is something that inspired someone enough to make them want to go back to it…and like everything, it’s an endorsement that we’re doing something different,” Foxx said.
