Woman arresting Thai police for allegedly seducing and threatening Buddhist monk KS

Thai police arrested the woman on Tuesday, but he seduced a string of Buddhist monks into sexual relations and then pressured them to make a massive payment to hide their intimacy.

Possible violations of monks’ single rule have rocked Buddhist institutions in Thailand in recent weeks and attracted the attention of the public. At least nine Abbotts and the senior monks involved in the scandal were stripped of the monkshood and kicked out, Thai police Central Investigation Bureau said.

In his mid-30s, Wilawan M-Sawat was arrested on charges of fear, money laundering and receiving stolen goods at his home in northern Tabri, north of Bangkok. Police say they traced the money transferred to her by a senior monk from a bank account belonging to his temple in northern Thailand.

Willawan has not made a statement since his arrest, and it was unclear whether she has a legal representative. Talked to local media before arresting her, she said she had admitted one relationship and gave the monk money.

Scandals involving the Ks surface several times a year in Thailand, but usually do not involve senior members of the clergy. The incident also highlights the large amount of money donated to temples controlled by Abbott.

Willawlang intentionally targeted the senior monks for financial gain, and police said they discovered that some monks had transferred large amounts of money after Willangang began a romantic relationship with them.

Wilawan’s bank account has received about 385 million baht ($11.9 million) over the past three years, but most of the money has been spent on online gambling websites, police said.

Jaroonkiat Pankaew, deputy committee member of the Central Bureau of Investigation, said the investigation was started after the abbot of a famous temple in Bangkok suddenly left the monk.

Investigators discovered that Abbott was allegedly threatened by Willawan about their romantic relationship. She told the monk that she was pregnant and asked him to pay him 7.2 million baht ($222,000) in financial support, Jarowkiat said at a press conference in Bangkok on Tuesday.

Police believed that “this woman is dangerous and we need to arrest her as soon as possible.”

Thai media reported that her mobile search revealed tens of thousands of photos and videos. We also reported many chat logs showing intimacy with some monks.

Thai monks are primarily members of the Teravada faction, who are single and require that they refrain from even touching women.

Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai ordered the authorities to consider and consider existing laws related to the transparency of the finances of monks and temples, particularly temples, to restore faith in Buddhism, government spokesman Jirayu Houngsub said on Tuesday.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has set up a Facebook page for people to report monks who are cheating, Jaroonkiat said.

“We will investigate monks across the country,” he said. “We believe the ripple effects of this study will lead to many changes.”

Trump Tax Laws can x office perks like free snacks, meals

0

play

Corrections and explanation: An earlier version of this story misunderstood Stanford Economics professor Nicholas Bloom. The story has been revised.

If your company offers free office snacks and meals, the perks could be at risk due to President Donald Trump’s new tax laws.

The tax credits offered to employers for take-out meals and company-provided cafeteria meals will expire at the end of this year, thanks to the so-called “Big Beautiful Building” provisions that became law at the beginning of July. Office snacks can also have an impact.

That means some employers who offer food and snacks to bring employees back to the office can choose to remove the perks.

What is the tax credit for free office meals?

Some of the food deductions offered in the office will be reduced by the 2017 tax law, with the rest being eliminated by December 31st this year.

According to the joint committee of Congress’s Tax Committee, the repeal of the deduction is expected to raise $32 billion in additional taxes to employers by 2034.

There are several questions and debates about whether office snacks fall into the category of exclusion deductions, according to Christa Bierma, vice-chairman of the U.S. CPAS Institute’s Employee Benefits Committee.

Free office food is a perk for some companies

Free office snacks and meals were staples in many US offices, including high-tech companies and accounting firms. According to the 2025 Human Resources Association Employee Benefit Survey, 44% of the companies surveyed offered free snacks and drinks, 78% provided free coffee, and 10% said they subsidized free or company subsidies in their on-site cafeterias.

Many companies see the benefits of offering free food and snacks to shape a sense of community in the workplace, said James Atkinson, Vice President of Thought Leadership at the Human Resources Association.

“What you think of in terms of retaining or attracting employees isn’t that it’s makeup or broken profits, but it’s a kind of perk that employees look forward to,” Atkinson told USA Today.

Additionally, businesses that have cafeterias on-site or provide meals to employees can ensure workers do not have to leave the office, he said. It could encourage workers to stay at work. This can be positive or negative if it encourages a burnout work culture, Atkinson said.

Does elimination of deduction remove free food?

Nicholas Bloom, a Stanford University economics professor who studies remote work, doesn’t believe businesses will eliminate free food perks with tax credit losses.

“Companies continue to provide this as interactions with colleagues are the number one factor that brings people back to their offices,” Bloom told USA Today. “The companies that cut food and drink are shortsighted. It’s like the old British who say, ‘Pennywise pounds are stupid.’ Essentially, employees aren’t connected, saving nickel and dimes by cutting food budgets, and losing by thousands of dollars in business revenue. ”

Atkinson and Biama agree.

“I don’t think most companies will take that out of the deduction right away, especially if they feel that it’s actually affecting employee morale and employee involvement,” Atkinson said.

However, the elimination of tax credits could potentially create a sense of economic uncertainty for some businesses and ease the perks, Atkinson and Biama said.

“I think they’ll continue to provide benefits even if they can’t deduct that,” Biama said, but “they’ll think about how generous the spread of the buffet they want is.”

Adelita Griarba, daughter of late Arizona Southern Congressman Raul Griarba, won the July 15th Democratic primary and will be in the driver’s seat to take over her father in Congress.

The Associated Press called for the race late Tuesday evening, with Grijalva winning 62% of the vote. Arizona’s Deep Blue 7th The Congressional District supports Democrats, and Grijalva will be placed in Prime position to win the special general election scheduled for September 23rd.

Former MP Grijalva passed away in March in 1977 after spending more than 20 years in Parliament. He is one of three House Democrats who died during his time in office this year, leaving a vacant seat in his lower room.

His 54-year-old daughter came to the top in Tuesday’s primary, beating a handful of fellow Democrats for the nominations, including top competitors Deja Foxx and Daniel Hernandez.

The 25-year-old FOXX is a generational Z social media strategist and activist who has won the recognition of national names that campaigned on the promise of generational change. Her bids gained support from Democrats like David Hogg, an activist and former party co-visiting chairperson who has become openly involved in the major party’s desire for change.

Hernandez, 35, a former state legislator and former intern at Gabby Giffords, ran a more gentle campaign against Grijalva and Foxx.

Adelia Grijalva, a former member of the PIMA County Board of Supervisors, follows in the progressive footsteps of her father, known for defending the environment and indigenous causes during her tenure.

Dalai Lama is at odds over how Chinese successors will be chosen

  • The Dalai Lama declared that his reincarnation would be chosen by his foundation, not by China.
  • China claims it has the authority to select the next Dalai Lama and set up potential conflicts.
  • The Tibetan government could be vacant and two Dalai Lamas, one more selected by China.

Will there be two Dalai Lamas in the end?

The announcement of the 14th Dalai Lama in early July announced that he would be reborn as the next spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism reassured his worries. However, the statement also foresaw a conflict with China, where he could choose his successor.

Tibetan tradition believes that the soul of the senior Buddhist monk K of his death is reborn into the body of a child. In his declaration, the 90-year-old Dalai Lama said that Gaden Fodran, a foundation created to support the Dalai Lama tradition, has the sole authority to recognize his successor.

“They need to follow that and carry out search and recognition procedures according to past traditions,” he said. “There is no other authority to interfere with this issue.”

Beijing claims that is the case.

“The reincarnation and succession of the Dalai Lama is essentially an internal event in China,” said Yu Jin, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in India. There, the Dalai Lama had lived in exile since 1959 after the failed Chinese rule over China’s rule in Tibet. Separatist activities under the cloak of religion. ”

Janet Gyatoso, a professor of Buddhist studies at Harvard Seminary in Cambridge, Massachusetts, said that if China chooses to pursue its own process of choice, it is not the first time that Buddhism has dealt with a controversy over the identity of the reborn Dalai Lama.

“It’s not easy to say what they (China) do,” Gyatso said. “But political interests are much higher than ever.”

The conflict several decades ago

About 100,000 Tibetans live in exile, most of them live in India, according to the Institute of Immigration Policy, a nonpartisan think tank based in Washington, D.C.

Nicole Wilk, professor of philosophy and religion studies at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, said China’s responsibilities for the Dalai Lama’s declaration show an ongoing effort to underestimate Tibet irrelevantly.

“The current CCP policy based on Xi Jinping is to isolate the Dalai Lama when he gets older and force people who want to do business with international companies and China to forget Tibet,” she said.

As an example, she cited “Ghost of the Mountains.” This cited a Disney documentary feature on the snow leopard, the Tibetan national animal.

China colonized Tibet in the middle of 20 yearsth In the century, Africa and Asian countries were independence from colonial power. In 1959, due to a failed uprising, the Dalai Lama fled Tibet for northern India, where he founded a government in exile.

Today, both sides are clashing with those who choose to succeed the Dalai Lama.

“This is a history that the current PRC government hopes is ignoring the world,” Wilk said. “The CCP is thinking about whether the next Dalai Lama will control the Tibetan story.”

How will the Dalai Lama be reborn?

An announcement on July 2nd by one of the world’s most influential religious figures offered relief to those who were perplexed by his previous public meditation on whether that agitation extends far beyond Buddhism and whether the Dalai Lama leadership tradition should withstand or postpone democratically elected authority.

He also answered the wishes of his followers who have ritualized him more frequently about his desire for health and longevity, as he sought for his reborn return.

“Tibetans really want to have a Dalai Lama,” Gyatoso said.

14th The Dalai Lama, born in 1935 as Lamo Dondup and ascended the throne in 1940, is a living example of Tibetan Buddhist customs that recognize the reincarnation of the previous Lama, which continues to work with new reincarnations.

Gyatso says that the faith believes that everyone will be reborn, but only those very enlightened, such as Dalai Lama, can choose where they will.

“They can choose the mother and father they will be born in, on the best conditions to continue their work,” she said.

But when that happens, there is a process that is handled “by highly evolved monks and experts,” she said, although it requires identifying the reincarnation and being recognized as such. “There are usually a lot of tests and methods when your child is about 3 or 4 years old.”

In his statement, the Dalai Lama said his nonprofit foundation will oversee the succession process in consultation with his closest advisors and leaders of various Tibetan Buddhist traditions.

Jose Cabezon, professor emeritus of religion at the University of California, Santa Barbara, said the declaration was marked as highly decisive about the 15 certainty.th How the Dalai Lama and its people are chosen. While providing Tibetans with a “big sense of relief,” the specificity of the statement also said “will warn the PRC government not to interfere in this process.”

Decide who the real Dalai Lama is

Gyatso said two Dalai Lamas could be raised at the same time. One will become the head of the Tibetan government in exile, and the other assumes a role that has not yet been defined in China.

“What we expect to happen is that they (China) carry out their own process,” Gyatso says. “The Tibetans and the rest of the world will decide who they think is the real Dalai Lama.”

If such a scenario were to unfold, most Tibetans outside China could follow the Dalai Lama in exile, and Tibetans within China would be under great political pressure to accept the government’s recruiting appearance.

Kabezon said Beijing’s claim to appoint a successor to the Dalai Lama is ironic given the government’s eschewing religion and viewing reincarnation as superstitious.

“Beijing will definitely appoint 15th We promote the Dalai Lama and the boy as “true” Dalai Lamas,” Kabezon said.

Is there an upside in the split?

Gyatso said the Tibetan community is “very upset” about the potential dichotomy.

“They don’t want the confusion of having two Dalai Lamas,” she said.

Nevertheless, she said that such a situation may not be without benefits.

“If the Chinese government wants to recognize its own Dalai Lama, let him train and nurture real Buddhism, as the current Dalai Lama has gained,” Gyatoso said. “Let him study Buddhist philosophy and ethics. If they can produce the Dalai Lama, which has the ability to reach many people with wisdom and important Buddhist teachings, that would be great.”

The challenge for both is to create leaders on the scale of the current Dalai Lama, she said.

“Let’s see both of you train and educate in the best way,” Gatoso said. “If they are both great leaders of wisdom, they can’t compete. They visit and cooperate, and that’s what will be the test.

The judge responds to Biden Medical Debt Rules on the request of Trump Administrators

play

Consumers were hit after a federal judge in Texas abandoned Biden-era rules that banned the inclusion of medical debt in credit reports.

In a move that advocates said USA Today would eliminate key consumer protections, US District Judge Sean Jordan on July 11 granted demands from President Donald Trump’s administration and two financial industry groups to override medical debt rules.

The medical debt rules, which were finalised in January before former President Joe Biden resigned, would have banned medical debts on credit reports and banned lenders from using a person’s medical debt history to make loan decisions.

The rules were scheduled to come into effect in March, but two trade groups sued the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to sues the rules, and Jordan issued a stay and delayed the date of the rules’ commencement. In late April, Trump-appointed CFPB leaders chose not to oppose the lawsuit, filed a joint complaint with the financial industry groups (the Consumer Data Industry Association and the Cornerstone Credit Union League), asking judges to destroy the medical debt rules.

Jordan, appointed during Trump’s first administration, agreed to the trade group that eliminating medical debt rules was “fair, appropriate and reasonable” as it surpassed CFPB authorities under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Medical debt “maybe worsens”

Patricia Kelmer, senior director of the healthcare campaign at the US PIRG Education Fund, said rules are needed to protect consumers from medical debt errors in credit reports. According to a 2022 report from the CFPB, health costs account for more than half of debt collections on consumer credit records.

“The problem is still here and it’s probably going to get worse,” Kelmer said. “Credit report medical liabilities are almost three times more often than credit card liabilities.”

She said that many of the 15 million Americans with medical debt on their credit reports are “punished with a lower credit score not because they owe the bill, but because they’re still fighting it or because the hospitals report it wrong.”

However, the industry group supported the decision.

“The health debt rules could potentially lend out inaccurate and incomplete pictures when making lending decisions,” Dan Smith, president and CEO of the Consumer Data Industry Association, said in a statement.

“Information about unpaid medical debt is a key factor in assessing consumers’ ability to pay,” Smith said. “This is the correct outcome to protect the integrity of the system.”

Paid medical obligations, unpaid medical obligations of less than a year and medical obligations of less than $500 have already been removed from credit reports by the three largest credit reporting companies. However, due to the scrubbing of medical debt rules, consumers can expect larger medical debts to appear on their credit reports.

The decision is because Trump’s sweeping tax cuts and spending laws could put health insurance coverage at risk for millions of Americans going forward.

According to the Non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, the law cuts around $1 trillion from Medicaid and Affordable Care Act insurance plans, eliminating 11.8 million insurance coverage over the next decade.

According to previous CBO analysis, Biden’s Covid-19 pandemic-era tax credits that made the ACA plan cheaper for consumers could potentially lose health insurance as the law doesn’t expand.

Magazine fragments and Democrats seize Epstein files: Latest

0

play

WASHINGTON – Top Congressional Democrats continue to pressure Trump officials to track the long-standing release of the Epstein Files. Meanwhile, the president said the files were “constructed” by rivals, and he resisted the call to simply release them.

This is the latest in Fallout:

Attorney General Pam Bondy has convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for several months, pledging to release new information about the financial operator. The New York chief examiner ruled Epstein’s death as a suicide, but some, including many Trump’s loyalty, have questioned the discovery and whether the government is protecting Epstein’s potential clients from public places.

Bondi told Fox News host Sean Hannity on March 3, 2025 that there was a “truck load” in the Epstein file delivered to the FBI.

“It’s pissing that these people (the Biden administration) thought they could sit on this information, but I can’t,” Bondy said. “It’s a new day, we believe in transparency and that’s going to come out.”

Subsequently, on July 7, Bondi’s Justice Department revealed that a “systematic review” of the document had not guilty of the “client list” and issued a memo saying “full disclosure is not appropriate or guaranteed.”

At the Cabinet meeting on July 8th, President Donald Trump suggested that the topic was outdated news.

“Are people still talking about this guy, this creep?” he asked the reporter who asked Bondi about the memo. “That’s incredible.”

Democrats grab a tumult in the Magazine over Epstein’s memo

Following years of Trump’s fellow colleagues, the move, which the Biden administration says is hiding Epstein’s client list from the public, sparked a fuss from some within Trump’s most loyal foundation.

“The truth is, I throw it,” right-wing radio show host Alex Jones said in a July 7 video in response to the news.

“No one believes there’s a client list,” Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green posted on July 8th.

Democrats are seeking Congressional votes on the issue, seizing the division among Maga’s loyalists and releasing files.

“If you’re not hiding anything, prove it to the Americans,” said Hakeem Jeffries, a House minority leader on July 15th.

Trump says the Epstein Files were “constructed” by rivals

House Democrats have pushed Congressional action this week to put pressure on the Trump administration for greater transparency.

Rep. Marc Veasey of D-Texas introduced a resolution on July 14th requiring Trump authorities to release all uncategorized files related to Epstein and his known associates.

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-California, has submitted amendments to the cryptocurrency bill that would have required Bondi to store documents related to the bill and release them within 30 days until it becomes the bill.

In a rare break from Trump, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said in an interview with right-wing media personality Benny Johnson on July 15th, “We should put everything there and let people decide.”

So far, efforts have been flat.

A Republican-controlled House Committee overthrew Kanna’s amendment on July 14th, but Trump tried to raise questions about what could be included in the file on July 15th. He told reporters that the file was “constructed” by people who opposed him, naming former presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, as well as former FBI director James Comey.

“Whatever she thinks she (Bondi) can trust, she should be freed,” Trump added.

“I’m bored”

Speaking to reporters later that day, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with his continued interest in Epstein.

“It’s a grumpy mood, but it’s boring and I don’t understand why it continues,” he said. “But let them give it to you, trustworthy information. Whatever you trust, let them have it.”

The Justice Department did not respond to USA Today’s request for comment on whether Bondi would release more files following the president’s remarks.

If you’ve been to Taco Bell recently, you may have noticed some drink options available on the menu.

On June 26, the company announced that it would introduce a new drink called Refrescas to its menu nationwide. According to the chain, the drinks “heal the quenching of all kinds of cravings, whether they’re seeking a refreshing bite, a vibrant boost, or a frozen escape.”

Six drinks include 3 refreshes, 2 energy drinks and a cooling freeze. According to Taco Bell, the three Agua Refrescas have been permanently added to the menu after being first tested in Southern California in 2024, and have received a positive response.

Here’s what you need to know about the new Taco Bell Beverages:

What is Taco Bell Refrescas? New drink list

Taco Bell’s full lineup of Refrescas includes:

  • Agua Refrescas (3 flavor options): Taco Bell twists over your beloved Mexican drink and mixes it with real lyophilized fruit and green tea to provide a subtle boost of caffeine (52 mg per drink). Available at Strawberry Passion Fruit, Dragon Fruit Berryand Mango Peach Flavor.
  • Rockstar Energy Refrescas (two flavor options): Available at Pineapple lime or Tropical Punch Flavor, each drink offers an energy boost (200 mg of caffeine per drink).
  • Refresca Freeze: The Refresca lineup is frozen and features authentic freeze-dried fruits. Available at Strawberry lime Flavor.

How much is Taco Bell Refrescas?

Agua Refrescas cost $3.99 for a 20-ounce drink, while Rockstar Energy Refrescas cost $4.49 for a 20-ounce drink. Refrescas Freeze is available in 16-oz or 20-oz options and costs $3.79 and $3.99, respectively.

Why is Taco Bell adding Refrescas to its menu?

Taco Bell appears to be chasing young consumers looking for fresh drink options.

In a June 26th news release, Liz Matthews, Taco Bell’s Global Chief Food Innovation Officer, said: “So we’re making a huge investment to become the ultimate drink stop where fans can see the same bold and unexpected creativity in their cups that they do on the plate.”

Taco Bell Refrescas contains caffeine ranging from 52 mg to 200 mg. According to the FDA, healthy adults can usually consume up to 400 mg of caffeine per day without negative effects. However, the FDA warns about the high consumption of caffeine among children. “Too much caffeine in children and teens can lead to heart rate, heart movement pit, high blood pressure, anxiety, sleep problems, digestive problems and dehydration,” the FDA says.

Taco Bell will also debut crispy chicken tacos, burritos and strips

In addition to the new drinks, Taco Bell announced last month that crispy chicken tacos and burritos will be available for a limited time at locations around the country.

Both items come with crunchy chicken strips inside, with a new spicy ranchero and avocado lunch sauce.

For $2.79, the Crispy Chicken Tacos layer a new crispy strip with purple cabbage, lettuce, pico de gallo and shredded cheddar cheese. Meanwhile, the crispy chicken burrito comes with two strips, purple cabbage, crispy pretas, pico de gallo and cheddar cheese for $5.49.

The chain also offers two crunchy chicken strips at a price of $3.99 to avoid confusing them with the crispy chicken nuggets that debuted last December and returned in April.

Who is Omar Fathee? Minneapolis mayoral candidate slams racist attacks

0

Minneapolis mayoral candidate and Minnesota Sen. Omar Fathee are calling for a slate of right-wing complaints about his legal status and Muslim identity.

Washington, the son of immigrant parents from Somali, runs in the 2025 mayoral election. Critics have denounced his progressive causes, such as a rent freeze and an increase in the minimum wage, but several comments escalated to online attacks on his appearance, religion and citizenship.

Fateh opposed the hateful comments in replying to the anti-Islamic Post on the night of X Monday, July 14th, by conservative political activists and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Fate I answered In Kirk’s post, “Minneapolis is a beautifully diverse city that sticks to our progressive values. The hatred we saw today, and most days — we’re probably never before.”

Who is Omar Fathee?

Omar Fatte, 35, is a Democrat serving his second term as a state senator in Minnesota’s 62nd District, while running to become Minneapolis’ next mayor.

Born in Washington, DC, Fate said he was the son of immigrant parents from Somali and would soon become a father.

He received his Masters in Government from George Mason University and previously worked as a community specialist in Minneapolis and a project coordinator for the state Department of Transport and Business Analyst at the University of Minnesota.

When he was elected to the state senator in 2020, Fatae became the first Muslim and first Somali-American to join the Minnesota Senate. He previously ran a failed campaign for a state Senate seat in 2018, losing the Democratic primary to former national representative Hodan Hassan.

What is his promise as mayor?

In his run to mayor, Fate is a democratic socialist and, among other policies, pledges to improve ride-share protections for Uber and Lyft drivers, combat police violence and increase the supply of affordable housing.

He has pledged to raise the city’s minimum wage from $15.97 to $20 by 2028. Minnesota’s minimum wage is currently $11.13.

He also vows to stand up to the current administration of President Donald Trump, including not allowing city police to work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“Whether it’s an immigrant attack or not, our residents deserve a mayor to stand up to Donald Trump and say, “No, it’s not our community.” ”

Comments come after Zohran Mamdani’s backlash

Grassroots organization Take Action Minnesota has denounced Fate’s comments on citizenship and Muslim identity.

“Islamophobia has no place in politics or our community,” the group said. I wrote it in X post. “Senator Fatte is right – this hatred is not who we will ever be. We organize to elect leaders like Fate because we share a community vision built around care and love, not hatred.”

The online attack comes after 33-year-old New York State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani experienced similar hateful comments about his Muslim identity during the New York mayor’s campaign.

The democratic socialists have caught the attention of the public after wiping out the city’s democratic mayoral primary with a surprising upset against former government Andrew Cuomo. If he wins the general election in November, he will become the city’s first Muslim mayor and its first Asian American mayor.

ATLANTA – Standing at 6-foot-7, Misiorowski says he’s been a whirlwind since making his MLB debut on June 12th when he pitched five no-hit innings against the St. Louis Cardinals.

“The last five weeks have been insane,” Misiorowski said with a smile. “I wanted the All-Star Break to be one of those times when you could sit down and look back at everything. But we’re here now and we’re doing this.”

National League manager Dave Roberts defended the inclusion of Misiorowski, who is 4-1 with 2.81 ERA in five starts and 33 strikeouts.

“My North Star should be the best player in the game for the All-Star Game. It’s about the fans and what they want to see,” Roberts said. “So I couldn’t be more excited about this young child being selected as an All-Star.

“That’s a simple answer, because if it makes us excited and alert to our game, I’m all about it.”

ATLANTA – Yankees All-Star pitcher Carlos Rodon saw Jacob Wilson at the American League clubhouse on Monday and groaned about the difficulty of stopping him and pitching him.

“I said, ‘Hey, I’m looking at the scouting report about you, and it’s throwing a fastball, because you shouldn’t have hard contacts, and that’s what I’m saying.’ I throw four seamers and you doubled me.

“You don’t know what you expect from someone who has a low mistake and can have quality contact there. That’s not fair. What do I do with a guy like this? You’re not going to attack him.” – Bob Knight Engale, USA Today

This Guinness world record is a huge step forward for EVs.

Lucid’s electric vehicles have pushed the boundaries of all electric vehicles’ capabilities.

play

  • Range anxiety is a major obstacle to the mass adoption of electric vehicles.
  • Lucid Motors set the Guinness world record for the longest travel on an electric vehicle on a single charge.
  • This world record could motivate other car manufacturers to develop more impressive EV batteries.

What’s the most annoying thing about an electric vehicle? From a practical standpoint, driving range and charging infrastructure are two of the biggest obstacles electric vehicle owners encounter.

Unlike gas cars, there is no convenient way to fully refuel your EV in just a few minutes. The range and charging times have been improved, but the EV still has a long way to go before it can be considered a practical alternative to gas cars. Lucid Motors’ latest Guinness World Records helps to change the scope of surrounding electric vehicles.

Lucid electric vehicles boast record operating range

The operating range of electric vehicles has improved significantly over the past few years. There are several affordable EVs in the market with a driving range of over 250 miles, such as the Chevrolet Equinox EV and the Tesla Model Y. Rucid’s electric vehicle set the new Guinness World Record title on July 6th in Munich, Germany for its operating range.

Previous World Records The longest journey with an electric vehicle For a single price It was 649 miles. Lucid broke that record with a new range of 749 miles on a single charge. In the context, it is more than twice the range of a Tesla Model’s long distance small electric SUV.

A team of three began their journey to set up a new range record in Silva Plana, Switzerland, driving a Meid Air Grand Tour. They completed their journey in Munich, Germany, and traveled alpine roads, highways and secondary roads, earning miles on as many trips as possible.

According to Google Maps estimates, the direct travel from Silvaplana to Munich covers around 190 miles and takes around 4 hours and 16 minutes. The three-man team completed the journey in two days, pushing Air Grand Touring to its limits and up to the Max Out Driving Range.

Things you need to know about Lucid’s record-breaking electric vehicles

The clear air is one of two electric vehicles in the company’s portfolio. It comes in four trims: pure tour, grand touring and sapphire final composition. The Lucid Air starts at $69,900 and is the top player on the Sapphire model at a whopping $249,000.

Lucid’s record-breaking electric car is its third trim, the Air Grand Touring ($110,900). Car and driver vehicle reviews show that even a luxurious EV is expensive, but “it has the scope, technology and grandeur that justifies its wide range of prices.”

Lucid Air Grand Touring zooms from 0-60 mph with 819 horsepower in just 3.0 seconds. You can replenish your driving range up to 200 miles in 12 minutes via a DC fast charger. The Air Grand Tour may not be reasonably affordable for the average driver, but it has proven that its range and charging speed have improved dramatically over time.

Is it a good car to get a clear atmosphere?

Lucid Air boasts “supercar-like acceleration,” as well as an incredible real-world driving range and spacious cabin, according to a review of the vehicle by Edmunds. This is one of the most impressive EVs on the market in terms of performance.

If you’re willing to spend more than $110,000 on a Grand Touring model, there’s still a lot to love about the Air Pure Base model.

The estimated range for the Lucid Air Pure is 420 miles. DC fast charging allows you to replenish your driving range of up to 200 miles in 17 minutes. The electric car produces 430 horsepower and runs to 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

What does bright air grand touring mean for EV spaces?

Lucid Motors tossed the Gauntlet in this new Guinness World Record. The American Automotive and Technology Company is the king of electric vehicles.

With new records set, it was able to normalize the range (over 300 miles) that was once considered impressive. Lucid has set the bar high and could enter the golden age of electric vehicles if other car manufacturers try to abdicate it.

Things to know about Congress’s $9 billion proposed spending cuts

0

play

Senate Republicans are weighing billions of dollars in spending cuts, targeting programs from PBS to the Global Health Initiative, in response to requests from President Donald Trump.

The approximately $9 billion in federal funding proposal reflects some of the cuts pursued by government efficiency, previously led by billionaire and former adviser Elon Musk.

The bill currently under consideration will affect the company for public broadcasting funding NPR and PBS, and affect foreign aid agencies, including the World Health Organization and the International Development Organization.

Senate majority leader John Toon said he expects the voting process to begin on the evening of July 15, but said the final decision would come later on July 16, or earlier the next day. Lawmakers held the Trump demands until July 18th before officially expired, and current funds remain in place.

“We hope we have the opportunity to ride on that bill and do something meaningful about reducing the size and scope of the federal government, especially in the areas of government where there is no waste, fraud and abuse,” Thune said at a July 15 press conference.

This new push for spending cuts comes just after Congress’s “Big, Beautiful Building” saga. Trump’s sweeping tax, spending and policy package ran through Congress just before the July 4 deadline.

Broadcast services have been narrowed down

Republican lawmakers are considering codifying the near-range of claims that nearly $200 billion Doge claims saved the federal government.

Russell Vert, director of management and budget, said the amount cuts represent “vain and unnecessary spending” in the White House’s formal demands on Congress.

This includes stripping companies of more than $1 billion for public broadcasting.

Trump has set his sights on their recipients’ outlet NPR and PBS, denounces both unfair news reports.

If Congress moves further on these cuts, local stations are expected to bear the brunt of lost funds.

Sen. Mike Rounds of R-South Dakota had originally withheld support for the bill for impact on public broadcasting, but announced a change of heart after stating on July 15 that he had reached an agreement to protect the tribal broadcasting services in his hometown.

Large amounts of reductions are foreign aid

The law proposes reductions in foreign aid, primarily international peacekeeping efforts and certain global health initiatives.

However, the Senate plans to remove one of its most controversial targets.

Republicans, including Maine Sen. Susan Collins, had criticised the proposed retirement from the global AIDS prevention program. Thune said Tuesday that they plan to remove that $400 million cut, lowering the bill’s total savings from $9.4 billion to $9 billion, likely clearing one of the top chamber’s biggest hurdles.

“If we can pass this across the Senate finish line, we hope that the House will accept that small amendment,” Thune said.

When will Congress be cut?

Some lower rooms lawmakers have already complained about the possibility of receiving a diluted version of the bill.

R-South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman told Politico in June that he disagreed that he would “fewer pennies” than what the house originally approved.

Meanwhile, some Republican senators began the week as they were still looking for details from the White House about which programs and accounts could be touched before confidently supporting the bill.

“It’s important to be successful with this package because I hope this warms up what billions of dollars worth of rescue should be,” Tom Tillis said on July 15th.

Vought joined Senate Republicans later that day for lunch, and during that meeting, Sen. John Hoeven R-North Dakota said the OMB director provided detailed information on where the cuts would be made.

“Now, I don’t know if it meets the specificity that some members have requested,” Hoeven told reporters.

Vought, who came out of lunch with lawmakers, said the bill continued as is, in addition to the exception to the AIDS prevention program.

“I think everyone involved wants a successful outcome,” Vought added. “We’re going to focus on the Senate now, then on returning home.”

Mike Waltz says the government will “recommended” the signal. Is that?

0

play

He was banished as President Donald Trump’s top national security advisor after a message from leak chat on Mike Waltz’s signal app was published on a massive scale a few months ago.

Now he holds a new position at the United Nations.

Facing harsh questions from the senator during the July 15 confirmation hearing, Waltz defended the use of the app, saying it is explicitly recommended for government use.

So is it okay for the top staff to send messages to the app?

Signals are approved, but not classified information

The signal was green light for government use by the Biden administration. However, this is not an approved channel for classified information. This is what the senior defense secretary says will include some of the messages Waltz created and sent in signal chats that were carelessly shared with Atlantic journalists.

The Waltz accidentally added journalist Jeffrey Goldberg to a signal chat where Trump’s top national security authorities were discussing plans to attack Hooty’s target in Yemen. On March 15, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses sent out strike chat details just before the surgery, including mentions of weapons used and strikes and launch times. A detailed accounting of the error was revealed in the Atlantic in an article by Goldberg that sparked the Washington fire.

At the July 15 hearing, in order to consider his appointment as an ambassador to the United Nations, Waltz defended the use of the signal and said in a fierce interaction with Sen. Chris Coons the app has been “approved and ‘recommended’ for government use.

He said what he did was firmly within the department’s recommendations.

“The use of signals was not only permitted, but was recommended,” Waltz said in guidance released by the Biden administration.

Later, Waltz read the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) guidance sheets since December 2024, which encouraged senior government officials who have been “highly targeted” by espionage and cyberattacks to “use end-to-end encrypted communications and similar apps.”

Signals were approved during the Biden administration to coordinate meetings and other daily activities, according to a former senior official who spoke on condition of anonymity. Officials involved in the regular classified briefings said the signal would not be used for substantial discussion. The classified information was limited to the security of government communication channels.

Waltz’s statement on July 15th explored none of this nuance.

Pentagon inspectors are still reviewing the participation of Defense Secretary Pete Hegses in the signalling chat where he discussed the airstrikes before the pilots set up them up. Some current and former defense officials told USA Today that such information discloses future military operations but is almost certainly classified.

On July 15, Waltz refused to the Senate committee, confirming that the classifieds were shared in the chat.

“We know that neither of us is a safe way to convey classified information. I wanted to hear from you that you had a sense of regret,” Coons said.

“There was no information classified into that chat,” Waltz said.

Trump administration pulls 2,000 National Guard members from California

The Trump administration is pulling half of the California State Guard members he deployed in a major rollback of his militarized response to protests against statewide immigrant arrests and attacks.

“Our military forces stepped up to answer calls have calmed the lawlessness in Los Angeles,” Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said in a July 15 statement. “As such, the Secretary ordered the release of 2,000 California National Guard (79th IBCT) from the federal protection mission.”

Trump deployed 4,000 California National Security Guards on June 7, stepping up immigrant raids and arrests, responding to protests that won the southern part of the state after targeting farms, restaurants and hardware stores in the Los Angeles area. He also ordered 700 Marines to cities tasked with protecting federal property.

The development was accused by state Democrats who called the president’s over-authority and accused Trump of inciting violence. Trump claims that “Los Angeles is on fire right now” unless it’s a military presence.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom sued the Trump administration, but the appeals court ruled that Trump could continue to control the National Guard forces in mid-June.

Trump DOJ will fire immigration court judges beyond us, Union says

0

The union said judges hear between 500 and 700 cases a year, and that shootings will only be added to the backlog of more than 3.5 million cases.

play

The Justice Department recently fired more than 12 immigration court judges across the country, according to the union representing them.

The firing of 17 immigration judges from July 11th to July 15th to 15th will come as the Trump administration appears to detain and deport domestic immigrants. The judges were in federal courts in 10 states, including California, Louisiana, New York and Texas, according to the International Federation of Professional Engineers, which represents immigrant judges.

“This is pointless,” union president Matt Biggs said in a statement. “The answer is to stop the shooting and start hiring.”

A union spokesman said all 17 people had been fired for no reason. Biggs said there are around 600 judges remaining, which fall under the Department of Justice’s Enforcement Bureau for immigration review.

A spokesman for the Enforcement Bureau for Immigration Review declined to comment.

The immigration court has a backlog of more than 3.6 million cases, according to Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, a nonprofit data research center at Syracuse University. As immigrants navigate complex legal systems, it often takes years to final decisions on whether people can remain in the country without legal representation.

The Immigration Examination Enforcement Bureau will win a $3.3 billion lump sum payment through the recent federal spending law signed by President Donald Trump, according to the U.S. Immigration Council. This will limit the office to 800 immigration judges. This has dramatically increased Congressional spending, dramatically increasing to detain and deport people, with nearly $171 billion allocated to the law.

“Instead of accelerating immigration rulings, the actions of the Department of Justice and (the Immigration Examination and Enforcement Bureau) are wasting taxpayer dollars by exacerbating the backlog and destroying judicial independence,” Biggs said.

Immigration courts are facing an increase in surveillance as immigrants seeking to attend regular hearings are being held from entering and leaving the court by masked agents. They are at the heart of protests across the country, including in Los Angeles and New York.

Since May, immigration rights advocates and observers pointed out that the judge has approved an motion to dismiss the deportation case by government lawyers, and agents have detained the migrants after proceedings. The immigrants are currently in detention and will then be quickly tracked and removed from the country.

A spokesman for the union said most of the 17 judges fell into two classes that were on probation period ending mid- to late July, but some were employed for many years.

Since Trump took office in January, more than 100 judges and administrative level judges have been fired and voluntarily left and transferred from immigration court after receiving notifications for “forks on the road,” the alliance said.

The union said it would take at least a year to recruit, hire and train new judges. They hear between 500 and 700 cases each year, and layoffs are only added to the backlog, the union said.

Charitra Chandran was surprised at Wimbledon. Then came the humiliation.

0

play

“Bridgerton” Netflix star Charitra Chandran stole Andrew Garfield’s spotlight at Wimbledon after a video of him sitting behind him went viral.

Garfield’s fan account has posted a clip of the actor enjoying the game at Wimbledon. The attention soon turned to Chandran in the background.

“Look at the brown queen behind him,” one X user wrote in the post with 17 million views. “Charithra Chandran is one of the most beautiful people in existence,” replied another user.

However, when the internet began picking up Chandran’s appearance, posting photos of her side by side with or without makeup, calling her a “mid,” and accusing her of doing plastic surgery with filler, it quickly turned sour.

“All she did was look beautiful at Wimbledon, and now Incels has decided that (she) should be her next target,” one X user posted with 5 million views. “What’s interesting is that she looks stunning even in the worst photos she can find her,” replied another user.

Chandran’s trolls show the double bindings that women face. If you become natural, you’re not doing enough. If you’re wearing makeup, you’re going too far. Either way, you can’t win.

Detaching women’s appearances presents “a sexist double standard judged by the appearance of women in ways that men do not.” It is also a way to “police” women, she adds, “perpetuating the ideal of narrow beauty that is unattainable for most people, especially women of color.”

There is no discussion about makeup and makeup

The “unrecognized makeup” trend has made the internet hot, with some people using makeup to complete the full facial change. The problematic joke of “swimming her on your first date” has been around for nearly a decade. They are tossed by men who claim that early looking at women without makeup is the only way to avoid dating “bamboo stuffed” as unattractive.

In 2021, actress Sidney Sweeney has often been praised for her looks, but screamed live on Instagram while robbing the trend for “ugh” on X (Then, Twitter). In October 2024, Sweeney was photographed with a brunette curly wig, baggy clothes and an obviously unmakeup set. She was then featured in X-thread in 11 million views entitled “Catfish of the Year,” comparing photos of the red carpet with candid shots of paparazzi.

Another user came to her defense: “‘Sidney Sweeney is a catfish’ Sir ‘If the blonde woman wakes up with jet’s black eyelashes and can’t recognize that she’s not awake with the sparkle of her face, then you might be too stupid to reach.”

Many women oppose criticism of makeup, claiming that makeup is an “art” rather than a “false form.”

“The beautiful women we were taught are naturally beautiful and beautiful without any visible effort on her side,” says Tanenbaum. “But we all know that it is impossible to comply with our ideals of social beauty without effort.”

And in digital landscapes where beauty filters and apps like FaceTune are very common, perceptions of “real” or “naturally beautiful” can be greatly distorted. Chandran was surprised at glam at Wimbledon, but many celebrities have already opposed the norm of beauty, in favour of accepting a natural look.

Pamela Anderson has created headlines to keep her away from wearing makeup over the past few years.

“I’m not trying to be the pretty girl in my room,” she said in an October 2023 interview with Vogue France. “I feel it’s just freedom. It’s a relief.”

When criticism goes too far

When misogyny and the internet tear apart a woman’s appearance, it not only leaves behind emotional consequences, but also opens the door for more serious consequences.

Some of the people who take part in dogpiling are bullies. But even among those who do not imply any further harm, it creates social acceptability to exacerbate women because of their appearance.

“A lot of people believe they don’t want to assault women they’ve deemed unattractive, so when they talk in the face of the victim, they’re a bit far from trusting them.

Social Security 2026 Cola rose 2.7%. How about Medicare?

0

play

According to new estimates, Social Security recipients could rise 2.7% from the estimated 2.5% last month, based on the latest inflation report last month.

The consumer price index for Urban Wage Workers and Office Workers (CPI-W), an index used to calculate annual adjustments for Social Security benefits, rose 2.6% in June. Overall inflation rose 2.7% from a 2.4% increase in May. The Federal Reserve’s inflation target is 2%.

Cost of living adjustments, or Coke, is intended to help Americans keep up with inflation so that they can maintain their standard of living each year. But the hike is lacking, especially when Medicare Premium is rising with faster clips, says seniors. It will happen in 2025 and will do so next year.

“It’s not uncommon for Part B premiums to consume a lot of their annual coke, leaving no extra extra to cover other big increases in costs,” says Mary Johnson, Independent Social Security and Medicare Policy Analyst.

How fast is Medicare Premium rising?

The cost of Medicare Part B has risen several times faster than the average rate of increase in recent years.

According to the 2025 Medicare Fiduciary Annual Report released in June, the 2026 Medicare Part B Premium is expected to increase from $185.00 in 2025 to $21.50 a month, or $206.50 on a jump of 11.6%. This has been the largest part since 2022 when 2022 saw a 14.5% increase.

The Social Security Administration automatically deducts Part B premium costs from the Social Security benefits of most Medicare recipients. A large Medicare part-time job means a reduction in monthly checks.

“Medicare recipients will quickly point out that Part B premiums can take all or all of their annual coke frequently, leaving no extra room to cover other significant increases in costs like housing and groceries,” Johnson said.

Who hurts the most?

If Cola rises 2.7%, an average increase of 2.6% over the past 21 years, and Medicare Part B increases by 11.6%, those with the lowest Social Security benefits suffer the most.

“If COLA is 2.7% in 2026, a $21.50 Part B Premium Jump will accept all beneficiaries of colas that are less than about $800,” Johnson said. “This is especially true for any individual who receives Social Security retirement, spouse, or widow or widow’s benefits.”

How is cola calculated?

The Social Security Administration plantes an average annual increase in the consumer price index for urban wage workers and administrative workers (CPI-W) from July to September. In other words, it is important to pay particular attention to the number of inflation in July.

The Urban Wage Earning Index reflects the broader index released by the Labor Department each month, but that can vary slightly. Last month, the overall consumer price index rose 2.7%, while the urban wage earner index rose 2.6%.

How many people receive Social Security benefits?

According to the Social Security Administration, 74.269 million people received Social Security in May. These beneficiaries include retired workers, disabled workers, survivors of deceased workers, and workers who received supplemental security income (SSI).

The average monthly benefit was $1,860.64 in May.

Why is it raining so much? 2025 has become the year of floods.

Daily tropical downpours, fatal flash floods, moisture crushing: If you think summer 2025 is wetier and raining than usual, you’re right.

“2025 has been a year of floods,” WPLG-TV meteorologist Michael Lowry said in an email to USA Today on July 15th. “The tragic July 4 flood in central Texas – the deadliest flash flood in at least 50 years in the US – has suspended what was particularly bad for flooding across the country.”

In fact, “So far, in 2025, the National Weather Service office has issued more flood warnings than any other year dated back to 1986,” Laurie said.

In addition to the devastating flooding in Texas, life-threatening flooding and record-breaking rain have been reported this month in New Mexico, North Carolina and other East Coast states.

“In general, air moisture is historically high in areas where the most flooded this year has been seen,” Lowry told USA Today.

“You can see the temperature at the dew point as a gauge of how soup it was,” he said. “Dew point temperatures are much higher than average in parts of Texas and almost a third of the US.”

So why is it so humid? The main reason is due to the unusually warm waters of the Atlantic and Gulf this season. “It was pretty warm in subtropical waters around the US, especially off the east coast, with stronger currents from the south and east around Bermuda’s highlands sweeping all that steaming air from farther inland offshore,” Laurie said.

In fact, this year the Bermuda/Azores have been unusually strong so far, flowing clockwise through that area of high pressure, pulling moisture directly into the US from the ocean and bay.

“So, in the end, it’s high humidity levels from the warm waters around the US, which contributes to the record flooding we’ve seen so far this year,” said Laurie.

Wet springs also set stages

Accuweather Meteorologist Paul Pastelok told USA Today that it set the stage for a flooded summer that continues to be wet spring in the east. He said the drunken ground from the heavy rains in April and May contributed to the floods he saw in the summer.

Additionally, Pastelock said there is a lack of strong cold fronts swept from Canada, which acts to reduce humidity levels. He said it was a cold front in mid-July, and for quite some time the first front would help ease the grinding humidity in parts of the Midwest and Northeast at least later this week.

DC Delage

One city where many flash floods were seen this summer is Washington, DC. This has seen an extraordinary number of weather alerts related to rain and flooding this year.

In a typical year, the weather services office in the DC Baltimore region produces one or two moderate risk rainfall outlooks. In July alone, there were already three of them on July 1st, 9th and 14th, CNN reported.

National Weather Service’s DC-Baltimore office told USA Today on July 15 that the average number of rainfall forecasts and flash flood warnings were common in July.

“Last month, there were only seven days when the DC Baltimore area was not under threat of excessive rainfall,” CNN said.

What about climate change?

Climate change can affect the intensity and frequency of precipitation, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. This states that “warm oceans increase the amount of water evaporating into the air. When moisture-filled air travels on land or converges into a storm system, it can cause more intense precipitation.

A recent study by the non-profit research group Climate Central has shown that since 1970, almost 90% of US metropolitan cities have seen an increase in hourly rainfall rates.
