Trump rebukes Magazine supporters with “Jeffrey Epstein’s Hoax”

Trump called his supporters “weak people” because of his anger over his administration’s handling of the Epstein incident.

  • “I don’t want their support anymore!” Trump said he was angry at Maga’s attempts by his administration to close Jeffrey Epstein’s book.

President Donald Trump has a message to supporters who are upset over the handling of records related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump raised questions about his administration’s handling of the Epstein case, slamming them on a social media post on July 16th, clashing with conservative supporters who denounced them at an oval office event to promote what he called the “Jeffrey Epstein hoax.”

“And my past supporters bought this “bull***”, “hooks, lines, sinkers.” They haven’t learned the lessons and probably never will,” Trump said on social media.

Comments are notable responsibilities to some of Trump’s top supporters and major MAGA influencers. He pushed back his administration’s attempts to close Epstein’s book after the president and some of his top officials raised expectations for a massive hit revelation.

For months, Attorney General Pam Bondy has pledged to release new information about Epstein, who died in prison in 2019. The New York chief examiner ruled Epstein’s death as a suicide, but some, including many Trump’s loyalty, have questioned the discovery and whether the government is protecting Epstein’s potential clients from public places.

Subsequently, on July 7, Bondi’s Justice Department revealed that a “systematic review” of the document had not guilty of the “client list” and issued a memo saying “full disclosure is not appropriate or guaranteed.” The memo also states that there is no evidence that Epstein was murdered while in custody.

The memo caused an inflammation of Trump’s base. “No one believes there’s a client list,” Senator Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) posted on X on July 8th.

Prominent Trump allies are looking for more Epstein Records releases.

“I’m for transparency,” Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said in a July 15 interview with Benny Johnson Shaw.

Epstein’s client list allegations cause division among Trump supporters

The suspected list of Jeffrey Epstein’s clients, and whether or not they exist, divides up President Donald Trump’s supporters.

“It’s a very delicate subject,” he added.

Trump, who had a friendship with Epstein a few years ago, told reporters on July 15 that he didn’t understand the “attractiveness” of the incident.

“It’s annoying, but it’s boring,” Trump said. “And I don’t know why it continues. Only really bad people with fake news want to keep it that way.”

However, in some conservatives, questions about the incident continue to last. R-Kentucky MP Thomas Massie announced on July 15 that he had submitted a bill called “Epstein Files Transparent Act,” which would force the full release of all government Epstein documents.

“We all deserve to know what is contained in the Epstein Files, who is involved, and how deep this corruption will become,” Massie said in a statement.

Green announced on July 16 that she was co-hosting the bill, declaring that “I will never protect pedophiles, the elite and their circles.”

Trump praised Bondy for handling the lawsuit on July 16 during an oval office meeting, complaining about pressure from the right.

tHe said the president “lost a lot of faith in certain people… because they were fooled.” He described his focus on Epstein as a distraction from his administration’s tax cuts, immigration agenda and other issues.

“That’s what you should be talking about,” he said.

Mars Rock: Red Meteorite is on sale at auction for $4.3 million

CNN

Metstone, the largest known Mars on Earth It was sold at Sotheby’s New York Auction Wednesday at an anonymous bidder at a $4.3 million hammer price.

Known as NWA 16788, the met stone weighs 54 pounds (24.5 kilograms), and tends to be larger pieces compared to most Martian met stones, the auction house said in a July 8 statement.

Metstones are those left when a comet, asteroid, or meteor survives a passing through Earth’s atmosphere.

MetStone surface close-up view

Discovered in November 2023 in the remote Agadez region of Niger at NWA 16788, a “monologian specimen” about 70% larger than the next largest Mars ever discovered on Earth, according to Sotheby’s.

It is also very rare. Only about 400 Martian met stones have been discovered on Earth.

“NWA 16788 is an extraordinary discovery of importance. It is the largest Martian metstone discovered on Earth and the most valuable of the species offered at auction.”

“Weathered through travelling space and time, its enormous size and unmistakable red colour highlight it as a generation of discoveries. This incredible metstone provides a concrete connection with our heavenly neighbours who have long captured the human imagination,” she added.

Analysis of the internal composition of the metstone reveals that it was probably removed from the surface of Mars and exploded into space by the impact of a very powerful asteroid.

According to Sotheby’s, glass-like crust forms as well as the surface of the earth as it traverses the Earth’s atmosphere.

For some, the fact that the met stone was auctioned It’s not a donation to science, it’s a source of concern.

“If it disappears into the oligarch safe, it’s a shame. It belongs to the museum, where you can study there and enjoy it by children, families and the public.” Before sale.

But it has to be a balance for Julia Cartwright, a planetary scientist and independent researcher at the Institute for Space/Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester in the UK.

“In the end, without a market for searching, collecting and selling met stones, we wouldn’t be near many of our collections. This drives science!” she told CNN on July 9th, explaining the “symbiotic relationship” between researchers and collectors.

“If we can’t find any samples, we don’t know as much as we do because we don’t have much to study,” Cartwright added.

She believes that this “really wonderful rock” will be researched or displayed for the public to see, but Cartwright emphasized that reference samples from the met stones are preserved at the Purple Mountain Observatory in China.

I don’t know where the met stone will be, Cartwright believes that “scientific interest remains and new owners may be very interested in learning from it, so we may still gather a lot of science.”

In February 2021, a Martian metstone, trapped in a planetary atmosphere, went under the hammer at Christie’s auction house.

It was sold for $200,000, well above the pre-auction estimate of $30,000-$50,000.

US envoy to Israel tells Ireland to “satise” the Palestinian Territory Bill

CNN

Ireland is approaching passing a bill banning illegal Israeli settlements in occupied areas on the West Bank, causing incisive criticism from US officials who made the move that could harm Dublin’s relations with Washington.

Israeli Ambassador Mike Huckabee on Tuesday denounced Ireland as a “diplomatic addiction” for the sharp responsibilities of Irish bills, evoking the diplomatic stereotypes of Irish people.

“Did Ireland fall into the Guinness terribly at, and suggested something stupid enough to be attributed to the act of diplomatic addiction? It would hurt the Arabs as much as the Israelis.

Huckabee’s comments come after the Irish Foreign Affairs and Trade Commission held a positive scrutiny meeting this week, and discussed the bill that has garnered support from criticism from Palestinian lawmakers, campaigners and several Jewish organizations.

CNN contacted the Irish Foreign Office to comment on Huckabee’s post.

In an obvious attempt to divert criticism, Mishal Martin, Taoizech or the Prime Minister said the legislation was “mainly symbolic.”

“This is one of the factors in the government’s approach to catastrophic violence and the horrifying humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank,” Martin said in April.

Ireland's Prime Minister Michel Martin would not enact a trade ban with occupied Palestinian territory.

On Monday, Maurice Cohen, chairman of Ireland’s Jewish Council, called the bill a “false effort performance.”

“It won’t bring the two provinces closer, but it could put the Jewish community here in Ireland into even more fear and isolation,” Cohen said.

Republican Sen. Lindsay Graham also shaved the bill and said on Tuesday he hopes “Ireland will reconsider their efforts to isolate Israel economically.”

“I don’t think these efforts are well received in the US and they certainly won’t be noticed,” Graham told X.

Law – Israeli settlement of occupied Palestinian territory (prohibition of import of goods) Bill 2025 – If there is a passage in Ireland or in Parliament, it will show that this is the first time a member of the European Union has enacted such a law. The bill was first introduced in 2018 and has regained momentum since Israel’s highly destructive military campaign in Gaza following the attack on Hamas on October 7, 2023. More than 58,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the start of the war, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has stated that Israel’s settlement policy and the exploitation of natural resources in occupied Palestinian territory violates international law. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the ICJ’s ruling a “false decision.”

Solidarity with the Palestinian cause has been around for many years across most of Irish society and politics, with many of Ireland identifying a common historical experience of conquest by the occupying nations.

Ireland became the first EU member state to seek a Palestinian state in 1980, and was realized in May 2024 with the official recognition of the Palestinian state.

Israel closed its embassy in Dublin in December 2024, with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sarle denounced Ireland as “extreme anti-Israel policy.”

Ireland has long rejected the accusation of it being anti-Israel. “Ireland is a pro-human rights, an international law,” said PM Simon Harris at the time in response to the closure of the Israeli embassy.

“Ireland wants a solution for two states, and Israel and Palestine want to live in peace and security. Ireland will always speak up for human rights and international law. And then nothing distracts,” he said.

President Trump denies plans to fire Chairman Jerome Powell

President Trump has denied plans to fire Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell after telling Republican lawmakers he is likely to move.

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has denied that he is close to firing Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell after telling Republican lawmakers at a closed door meeting that he is likely to move.

“No, I’m not talking about that. Fortunately, we can make changes in the next eight months or so,” Trump told reporters on July 16, referring to Powell’s conclusions as chairman, which will end in May 2026.

Trump notified Republican lawmakers at an oval office meeting Tuesday night, but will soon fire Powell after the president voted for them on what he should do, a senior White House official told USA Today.

“Almost all of them said I should, but I’m more conservative,” Trump said of the meeting.

For months, Trump has criticized Powell for not lowering interest rates, labeling the Fed chairman as “too late” to stabilize interest rates.

Trump expressed his disappointment that Powell was appointed to lead an independent agency, even though it was Trump who appointed him to the FRED board during his first term in 2017.

“He’s the terrible Fed chair and I was surprised he was appointed,” Trump said. “Frankly, I was surprised that Biden put him in and spread him out, but they did.”

Trump proposes “fraud” in renovating the Federal Reserve HQ

Trump recently seized a $2.5 billion Headquarters renovation project for the Federal Reserve system for three historic landmarks at the National Mall. Balloon costs suggest that Powell could be the basis for his firing.

“I’m not ruled out anything, but I think that’s very unlikely,” Trump said of Powell’s firing. “Unless he has to leave for fraud. There could have been a scam related to the $2.5 billion renovation.”

The initial cost of the renovation was estimated at $1.9 billion in 2019, but it surged to $2.5 billion. The increase of over 33% was due to design changes, material costs, equipment and other “unexpected conditions.” This is more like asbestos than expected toxic contamination in the soil, the Fed said over the weekend.

The Federal Reserve, an independent institution run as a US central bank, typically reduces interest rates to reduce consumer borrowing costs, strengthen economic slump, and keep interest rates high to keep inflation high.

Powell cites the expected increase inflation rate from Trump’s massive tariffs as a reason not to change prices. Inflation accelerated in June, the Labor Bureau announced Tuesday, with prices rising 2.7% over the past 12 months. It was the highest annual inflation rate since February.

On July 11, the Fed refused to comment on rumors that Powell could resign, but multiple times directed USA Today because Powell said he was going to serve his term.

Powell’s term as Fed Chairman ends in 2026, but he can remain governor of the Fed committee until 2028.

It is unclear whether Trump even has legal authority to fire Powell.

In a May 22 ruling, the majority of Supreme Court justice signaled that they believe Trump will not be allowed to fire Powell, claiming that the Federal Reserve is a “uniquely structured, semi-private organization” that is different from other independent agencies. The policy was included in the Supreme Court opinion that allowed Trump to fire two Federal Labor Commission members.

Trump’s tariffs could make coffee even more expensive

0

President Donald Trump is threatening a 50% tariff on Brazil, the leading producer of green coffee beans. That could lead to an increase in coffee prices.

play

  • If Brazil’s 50% tariffs are retained, coffee prices are expected to rise.
  • The droughts in Brazil and Vietnam have already seen coffee prices rise.
  • Price increases are particularly noticeable at grocery stores.

The biggest part of waking up? If you’re pinching a penny, it may no longer be a fresh coffee.

On July 9, Trump threatened a 50% tariff on Brazil, one of the largest suppliers of green coffee beans in the United States since August 1st.

“Americans will feel the impact of tariffs on morning brewing. That’s a very large tax on major coffee producers,” said David Ortega, professor at Michigan State University, adding that consumers will notice high prices within months of the new tariffs being put into effect.

Why are coffee prices so high now?

Tariffs could put more pressure on industries that are already navigating the recent price surges driven by droughts in countries such as Brazil and Vietnam. As of June, the price of 1 pound ground roast coffee was up $8.13 from the previous year’s $6.25, and $4.52 in 2020, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“Inventory was declining, but demand remains as high as ever,” said Ron Krunik, owner of Superior Coffee Roasting, a roaster for Sioux St. Marie, Michigan.

Kurnik, 49, said a pallet of imported green coffee beans, which cost around $6,000 a year ago, is close to $9,000 today. He also said he faces higher packaging costs as most of his packaging is shipped from China due to tariffs.

It’s converted to a higher price for his customers. As of June 1st, a 12-ounce bag of excellent roasted coffee coffee ranges from $11.99 to $13.99.

Kurnik warned that an almost 17% increase was just the first of a series of pricing changes, especially in the case of Trump’s tariffs on Brazilian holdings.

“About a third of our purchases go to Brazilian coffee, which is definitely one of our staples,” he told USA Today.

His roaster is far from the only business that is heavily leaning towards imports from Brazil. According to the US Department of Agriculture, approximately 80% of US unroasted coffee imports were sourced from Latin America in 2023, with Brazil accounting for around 35% of these imports.

To keep costs down, Kurnik is considering sources more coffee from alternative countries such as El Salvador and Colombia. He said buying from local producers is not an option. Hawaii and Puerto Rico grow coffee, but the quantity is too low and the price is too high to replace imports completely.

“It’s just going to be a really bumpy ride that tries to navigate where we buy, what we’re going to buy,” Kurnik said. But “I’m still optimistic, if not, you shouldn’t own a business.”

The impact of rising coffee prices in the US will be widespread in the US. The National Coffee Association estimates that two-thirds of American adults drink coffee every day, with consumers spending nearly $110 billion on drinks each year.

Price increases are expected to be the most prominent in grocery stores, and will have less impact in coffee shops. Large coffee house chains tend to lock in long-term contracts with a variety of suppliers, and the final price of store-bought lattes is more affected than the price of coffee beans.

“There’s a lot more value that you’re paying at a coffee shop,” Ortega said. “So it really depends on the type of coffee you’re buying and where it comes from.”

Still, coffee house prices are rising. Kurnik said his coffee shop, Superior Cafe, hiked prices for coffee-based drinks ranging from 25 to 50 cents in June.

Other morning staples are more expensive

Other breakfast staples are more susceptible to higher prices over the coming months.

According to Reuters, Brazil is the top US Plus supplier, and orange juice prices could be higher if tariff threats are retained as high demand from Japan’s record high temperatures and suppressed production are raising the price of matcha.

Ortega said other caffeinated drinks, such as energy drinks and soda, can see boosts from higher coffee prices at the margins, but “for most people, there’s no easy alternative to morning coffee.”

“When it comes to our coffee culture, coffee is the main source of caffeine you get on American mornings,” he said.

This year’s coffee prices will depend on whether or not the tariffs will be retained in the end. In June, Agriculture Secretary Brook Rollins told the Wall Street Journal that the Trump administration may consider exceptions to produce that cannot be easily grown in the United States, including coffee.

Powerful Israel strikes Lock Damascus as Syrian forces clash with the Druze militia

CNN

Israel launched a series of powerful strikes in Syrian capital Damascus on Wednesday, escalating a campaign in favor of Arab minority groups involved in fatal clashes with Syrian government forces.

Syrian Health Ministry told CNN that at least three people have been killed, 34 people have been injured in the attack and that they have been injured in the attack.

Israel has stepped up its campaign despite pressure from the US and has made an effort to end Syria’s international isolation.

Meanwhile, the Syrian government has announced a new ceasefire for the Druze, but it is unclear whether it will come into effect amid the division between the groups.

One video on Syrian television channel showed that the Ministry of Defense building was broadcast during the latest strike, forcing the anchor to cover.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz shared the footage saying, “The painful blow has begun.”

During a press conference held by the Israeli Defense Force (IDF), military officials confirmed that Israel has targeted provinces and areas near the Presidential Palace.

Israel, which has been struggling in Syria since the collapse of Assad’s regime last December, says it is attacking Syria to protect the Druze, an Arab minority at the heart of clashes with government loyalists.

However, another incentive behind Israel’s decision to strike could be related to opposition to the current Syrian government.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously called the country’s new leader a “radical Islamic regime” and a threat to the Israeli state.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said Wednesday that he hopes his country will “maintain the status quo in South Syria, the area near our border, and prevent the emergence of threats to Israel in that space.”

Druze, an Arab sect of about a million people living primarily in Syria, Lebanon and Israel, practices derivatives of Islam that do not allow converts to religion or marriage. A druze consists of a network of groups with multiple drawings.

Syrian new president, Ahmed al-Shara, has encompassed and vowed to protect all of Syrian diverse communities, but the Sunni extremist forces loyal to him continued to face religious minorities fiercely.

Violence broke out over the weekend between the Druze and Bedouins in Sweida city in southern Syria, prompting intervention by the Syrian government.

The Syrian government claimed it had reached a new ceasefire agreement on Wednesday, but a key figure in the religious minority group denied it had reached an armistice. The previous ceasefire collapsed within hours.

A statement issued by the Syrian government said there will be a complete halt of military operations under the new ceasefire.

The Druze spiritual leader, representing one of Youssef Jarbou, one of Sweida factions, confirmed that an agreement was reached that “a complete and immediate halt of all military operations and emissions from all sides, and that the Army has returned to the barracks.”

However, Hikmat Al Hijri – a prominent Druze figure who sought international protection on Wednesday – refused to have a ceasefire and called on his supporters to continue the fight.

The clash continued Wednesday, when Fadi Hamdan, a carpenter from Sweida, told CNN “The situation in the city is tragic.”

“We’ve been getting electricity since yesterday (Tuesday) morning. The mobile services are very weak and the internet is barely functional,” Hamdan said. “The landline phones are completely down. The water was also blocked yesterday, but it’s back temporarily this morning.”

Hamdan said the current Syrian interim government is “fully responsible for what is happening in Sweeda.”

The US is “very concerned” about Wednesday’s strike, state Secretary of State Marco Rubio said. “We’re talking both sides, all the relevant aspects, so we can bring that to a conclusion, but we’re very concerned,” Rubio added.

In Syria, the Deleuze community is concentrated in three major states in the south of the country, near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, forming a majority in Sweida.

Before its official annexation in 1981, Golan Heights, a strategic plateau seized from Syria by Israel during the six-day war in 1967, is home to more than 20,000 Druzes.

It appears that hundreds of people in the Druze community have recently moved from Golan Heights to Syria.

It is unclear when the intersection occurred, but separate videos circulating on social media on Tuesday and Wednesday show people carrying the Druze flag across the border fence that is allegedly told from Golan Heights to Syria.

They apparently responded to pleas from the Druze leaders to support their community in the ongoing conflict.

Speaking to Golan Heights with the Israeli Druze community on Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu called on them not to cross the border.

“I have one request from you. You are a citizen of Israel. Please don’t cross the border,” he said.

Mamdani meets Bernie Sanders of AOC

The frontrunner for the mayor of New York City spoke about campaign strategies and lessons from his main upset. But not everyone is in his campaign.

play

WASHINGTON – New York City mayoral frontrunner and democratic destroyer Zohran Mamdani jumped into the southern capital on July 16th.

Mamdani, a 33-year-old state legislator, declared victory in the New York Democratic primary in June, defeating famous former government official Andrew Cuomo (since he announced his operational plan as an independent candidate).

His victory was a surprising upset that it echoed beyond five New York districts, and many openly wondered whether self-described democratic socialist successes had spelled out a left-leaning movement in the Nationalist Party.

No one is more engrossed with the political eight-ball than Washington, DC, where Mamdani enjoyed Congressional Democrat breakfast and admiration.

Mamdani “we received an energetic and welcoming reception in DC this morning,” D-Calif. Rep. Robert Garcia wrote in a July 16th post.

The meal was hosted by fellow New Yorkers and progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Lawmakers spent about two hours meetings on DC Restaurant’s conversation campaign strategy and takeout from the success of Mamdani, Politico reported.

But not everyone is rooting for the story of Cinderella on the left.

“Socialist Zoran Mamdani is too extreme to lead New York City,” D-New York Rep. Laura Gillen said in a statement at the time of his victory.

Democratic leaders Senators Chuck Schumer and Hicombe Jeffries – both New Yorkers – don’t support Mamdani yet. Politico reported that Jeffries is waiting to meet with the candidates before extending official support.

Astronomers detect the most huge black hole collision ever

CNN

According to a new study, the collisions observed between two black holes, larger than 100 suns, each is the largest merger of this type ever recorded.

A team of astronomers discovered an event called GW231123, the Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) of laser interferometers. Physicists call such ripples gravitational waves.

Gravity waves were predicted by Albert Einstein in 1915 as part of his theory of relativity, but he thought that they were too weak to be discovered by human technology. However, in 2016, Ligo detected them only when the black holes collided, proving that Einstein was correct (again). The following year, three scientists received an award for their important contribution to the development of what is called the “black hole telescope.”

Since the first detection of gravitational waves, Rigo and its sister instruments (Virgo in Italy and Kagura in Japan) have picked up about 300 signs of a black hole merger. “These incredible detectors are the most sensitive instruments humans have ever built,” said Mark Hannam, director of the Gravity Exploration Institute at Cardiff University in the UK and a member of the Ligo Scientific Collaboration. “So we are observing the most violent and extreme events in the universe.

The Gravitational Wave Astronomical Observatory (LIGO) laser interferometer in Livingston, Louisiana is one of two identical instruments used by astronomers to observe.

However, GW231123 is not just because it is the exception among these 300 black hole mergers and is the largest of the collisions.

“We’re also a member of the Ligo Scientific Collaboration,” said Charlie Hoy, a researcher at the University of Plymouth in the UK. “As if this wasn’t enough,” he continued. “Black holes are likely to rotate as fast as physically possible. GW231123 presents a real challenge to understanding the formation of black holes.”

Gravitational waves are the only way scientists can observe collisions in binary systems where two black holes orbit each other. “Before we were able to observe them with gravitational waves, there was even a question of whether or not there were binaries of black holes,” Hannam said. “Black holes do not emit light or other electromagnetic radiation, so they cannot be viewed by any type of regular telescope.”

According to Einstein’s general theory of relativity, gravity is the extension of space and time, forcing an object to move through curved space. When an object moves very quickly to rotate a black hole, the curved space forms ripples that spread outward like waves.

According to Hannam, these gravitational waves are “risky weak” and there are limits to the information they can provide. For example, there is uncertainty about the distance of GW231123 from Earth. It could be up to 12 billion light years away. Hannam is confident about the mass of two black holes, which are thought to be about 100 times and 140 times the mass of the sun.

But these numbers are confusing. “There is a standard mechanism by which a black hole forms when a star runs out of fuel and dies and collapses,” Hannam said. “But there are masses who think it’s impossible for a black hole to be formed like that, and a black hole from the live van at GW231123, in the middle of that (mass) gap.

“Mass gap” Hannham refers to starting at a solar mass of about 60 and going up to about 130, but as it is in the theoretical range, there is uncertainty as to where this gap begins and ends. But if the black holes from GW231123 actually fell into this gap, they probably wouldn’t have formed. It collapses from the stars, but in other ways.

A study published Monday in the Open Access Repository Arxiv suggests that the “mass gap” could explain whether the two black holes were the result of previous mergers rather than the product of the dying star. “This is a mechanism people have spoken about in the past and I’ve seen some previous hints,” he said.

GW231123 As observed by two Rigo instruments.

In this scenario, a chain reaction of black hole mergers occurs. “We can create this process that only accumulates larger and larger black holes. The black holes in GW231123 look like they can be seen by the masses who cannot obtain them by their usual mechanisms.

If this hypothesis is confirmed, it suggests that it is somewhere between the black holes formed from the death of a large star and the super-large black holes at the center of the galaxy, states the ultra-high Massive black holes found in the center of the galaxy. Wilkins was not involved in the discovery of GW231123.

“Gravity waves open a very interesting window into the black hole, revealing a truly interesting mystery,” he added. “Before the emergence of gravitational wave astronomy, only actively grown black holes could be detected by drawing in material and generating a powerful light source. Gravitational waves show different parts of the black hole population that are growing by fusing with other black holes rather than pulling the material.”

Another amazing feature of the GW231123 is how quickly the two black holes rotate with each other.

“So far, most of the black holes we’ve found in gravitational waves are spinning quite slowly,” said Charlie Hoy. “This may suggest that GW231123 may have been formed by a different mechanism compared to other observed mergers, or that the model needs to be changed.”

While such fast spins are difficult to produce, Hannam also supports the idea that black holes have undergone previous mergers, as scientists expect them to fuse faster.

“The GW231123 stands out as an extraordinary event that is inexplicable to challenge and interpret models of gravitational wave signals because of the complexity of modeling such (fast) spins.” “What surprised me most is what I still need to learn about gravitational waves. I really hope that in the future we can observe other events similar to GW231123 and improve our understanding of such systems.”

The previous record of the largest black hole mergers observed so far belongs to a merger called GW190521, which was 60% of the size of GW231123. However, scientists have said that even larger mergers could be found in the future, and that the collision may be observed one day through more accurate means that could be in the coming decades, such as the proposed space explorer in the US and the European Einstein telescope.

This new discovery opens a new window on how black holes form and grow, and Imre Bartos, an associate professor at the University of Florida, was not involved in the study. “It also shows how quickly gravitational wave astronomy matures,” he added. “In less than a decade, we moved from the first detection to the realm of charts, challenging our best theories.”

He agrees that previous mergers can explain both the high mass and fast spins of black holes, but other possibilities include repeated collisions of young star clusters and the direct collapse of unusually huge stars. However, he added that these possibilities are unlikely to produce black holes that spin this fast.

It is very natural to describe the black hole of GW231123 as the remains of one or more generations of previous mergers, said Zoltanheiman, a professor at the Austrian Institute of Science and Technology, who was not involved in the discovery. “The idea was already raised shortly after the initial Ligo detection of (black hole) mergers, but this new merger is extremely difficult to explain in other ways.”

Future detections say, “Was this heavyweight match the tip of the iceberg?”, he added.

Medical debt will return to credit report

0

good morning! It’s Daniel de Vis with your daily money.

Consumers were hit when federal judges in Texas abandoned Biden-era rules that banned the inclusion of medical debt in their credit reports.

In a move to eliminate perhaps important consumer protections, US District Judge Sean Jordan on July 11 granted a request to remove health debt rules from President Donald Trump’s administration and industry groups.

This is what it means for consumers.

Do you have pizza in your office anymore?

If your company offers free office snacks and meals, the perks could be at risk due to President Trump’s new tax laws.

Tax credits provided to employers for take-out meals and cafeteria meals offered by the company will expire at the end of this year thanks to the so-called “Big Beautiful Building” provisions that became law at the beginning of July.

Does that mean there’s no more pizza on a long work night?

An April Fool’s Day joke, created by a fast food fan account, got caught up in a White House press release on Monday.

In a modified statement since then, the Trump administration has promoted recent changes made by major food and beverage companies in response to the administration’s “Make America Healthy” initiative. Among the announcements are bullet points claiming that the California-based fast food chain has “moved to 100% beef tallow.”

Alas, it was all a joke.

‘The Legend of Zelda’ Live-action Movie Casts Link and Zelda

It’s dangerous to go alone! Take news about this “The Legend of Zelda” movie.

Nintendo has cast two lead rolls in the upcoming live-action film, based on the Legend of Zelda video game franchise announced on Wednesday, July 16th.

Link’s role is played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, while Zelda is played by Bo Bragason. In the “Zelda” video game, Link is generally the main character, sets out to save the kingdom of Haruru from the evil Ganon, but in some cases the gamer plays him like Princess Zelda.

Ainsworth previously starred as Miles Wingrave in Netflix’s “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” and voiced Pinocchio across from Tom Hanks in Disney’s 2022 live-action version of “Pinocchio.” Meanwhile, Bragason has appeared in shows such as the Disney+ series “Renegade Nell” and the British drama “The Jetty.”

Both cast selections are lesser known actors compared to some of the names suggested by fans. In particular, “Euphoria” star Hunter Schafer was a general suggestion to play Zelda.

The “Legend of Zelda” film became the next major Nintendo video game, transforming into a feature film after the success of the “Super Mario Bros. Films,” and was the second-highest growth film for “Barbie” in 2023, with over $1.3 billion at the global box office. The sequel to the “Mario” movie is also Way, and will be released in 2026.

However, while “Mario” was animated, the “Zelda” movie is live-action. Wesbord, who directed three “Labyrinth Runner” films and 2024’s “The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” directed The Legend of Zelda. It’s a long-standing passion project for filmmakers who have documented that they want to make it for over 15 years. In a 2010 post on X, Ball wrote, “I didn’t even have the opportunity to direct it… the next big (motion capture) movie like “Avatar” should be… the Legend of Zelda.”

When will the “The Legend of Zelda” movie be released?

“The Legend of Zelda” is scheduled to be a hit in theaters on May 7, 2027.

Spain Mountain Rescue Team is searching for missing American hikers in the Pyrenees

CNN

A Spanish rescue team is looking for an American hiker who has been missing in the Pyrenees for eight days.

At Ordesay Monteperdido National Park in northern Spain, a mountain rescue team and helicopter specializing in aviation services are looking for Cole Henderson, 27, a Guardia citizen told CNN on Wednesday.

Henderson was last asked on July 9, Henderson’s friend Max Senov said in a Facebook post released Tuesday.

He parked his car and texted him saying he was turning the phone in plane mode and starting the hike. He hasn’t been heard since.

Henderson was reported missing on July 14th.

Authorities discovered Henderson’s car in Torra, the western town of the national park, Guardia citizens said.

Senov stands 11,007 feet (3,355 meters) thinking he might have been trying to climb Monte Perdido, the third highest peak in the Pyrenees.

Social media footage shows the usual route from Tora, where Henderson’s car was parked, and is still covered in snow in early July.

The route is rated “Peu Difficile” (PD), meaning “somewhat difficult” by the climbing community. PD routes are often climbed without ropes, but they can include steep sections of climbing and crevass glaciers, and often require special equipment such as ice shafts and brampons.

According to his social media profile, Henderson attended St. Andrews School in Middletown, Delaware, where he studied computer science at Roads College, Tennessee.

Ford recalls nearly 700,000 escapes, and Bronco sports cars seek fire risk

0

Ford recalls nearly 700,000 vehicles in the US due to fuel leak issues that could lead to fires, the automaker announced.

The recall includes the 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sports and the 2020-2022 Ford Escape Vehicle.

According to Ford, the fuel injection system may be smashing fuel in the engine compartment and leaking. Ford said in its NHTSA filing dated July 11th that fuel fuel or fuel vapor could ignite, increasing the risk of injury.

“This safety recall replaces the previous recall and includes a new remedy for this issue that is currently under development and is expected to be finalized in the near future,” Ford said in a July 16 statement to USA Today.

Ford also recalls vehicles produced with these previously unrecalled injectors, and said the company is not aware of any injuries related to under-hood fires associated with cracked fuel injection devices.

The recalled model is part of another recall in late June, as the rear camera could break down, which could increase the risk of a crash. The company provided free software updates in that case.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Recall no. 25v467000, and how Ford handles it.

How many vehicles have been recalled?

According to a Ford spokesperson, the recall includes 687,000 and 694,271 vehicles in the US, counting US territory such as Samoa and Puerto Rico.

The affected vehicles include:

  • 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sports Vehicle (manufactured between February 5, 2020 and February 8, 2024)
  • 2020-2022 Ford Escape Vehicle (manufactured from November 19, 2018 to December 16, 2022)

What led to the recall?

Ford previously issued notices in November 2022 and March 2024 to address the risk of hood-under fires due to escape with a 1.5-liter Dragon GTDI engine and fuel leakage from cracked injectors on Bronco Sports vehicles.

Ford attempted to update the engine control software to fix the issue so that it could detect crack fuel injection devices and lower the temperature that could potentially be reduced from the source of the ignition. The treatment also included adding tubes to allow fuel to be discharged from surfaces that could lead to fire.

On April 11, 2024, the NHTSA opened a recall query to determine the “reasonability and safety impact” of previous treatments, Ford said. The NHTSA did not believe that the fix had reached the root cause of the problem.

Ford worked to respond to the NHTSA for the next few months, then on July 23, 2024, Ford’s Key Concern Review Group began investigating vehicles that had fires under the hood after receiving the update. Ford began testing the vehicle and found out there was a cracked injector leading to the fire. The company spent the next nine months inspecting vehicles that had experienced a fire under their head after receiving the update.

According to Ford, the company also said the injectors were cracked in eight vehicles that had fires at the bottom. Of these, six people had no updates to the engine control software.

“Ford is aware that there are no claims of injuries related to these (8) fires,” the company said.

On March 7, 2025, Ford approved another remedy to address a subset of vehicles that did not properly receive the software portion of the update.

What if I have one of these vehicles?

Ford notified the dealer about the issue on July 15th, saying that the owner’s notification letter should begin mailing on August 18th, 2025. The owner is instructed to bring the vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer and to update the engine control software for free.

Some drivers already have received the update so they don’t need to bring their vehicles in, Ford said. The company will let you know if these drivers need an update. Owners can also search the vehicle’s identification number online to see what the recall applies to the vehicle.

According to Ford, the company will notify the owner by mail when the final fix is in progress and a free solution is available.

A shooting investigation by Minnesota lawmakers reveals new details

0

play

The man accused of assassinating Minnesota lawmakers and assassinating others, claimed in a letter to the FBI director that he was threatened with distant conspiracy allegations that prosecutors called him “delusions.”

According to a US lawyer for the Joseph Thompson area of Minnesota, the letter written by Vance Luther Belter, 57, is unsealed. Belter was accused of shooting and killing Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark and their dogs, and wounding Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette.

The indictment and newly released court records reveal additional details of the horror night unfolding early in the morning of June 14th. Thompson said at a press conference on July 15th.

“This political assassination has rocked our state on a basic level, though something like that never happened in Minnesota,” Thompson said.

Beltar was charged with six counts, and Thompson said he stalked on July 15 with intent to file a murder and firearms charge, including two counts of murder. Each count is subject to fines for living in prison, and two capital murder charges also have the death penalty on the table. Prosecutors will not decide whether to pursue the death penalty until later, Thompson said. USA Today contacted the office of the federal defender who represented Boelter for comments on the accusation.

What happened to the shootings by Minnesota Senators?

He was wearing a “hyper-realistic” silicone mask, pretending to be a police officer, and running around the Minneapolis suburbs of Congress in the early hours of June 14th, authorities said, impersonating a police officer with a flashing SUV.

At Hoffman’s home in Shamplin, Bolter cried around 2am, “This is the police. Open the door,” according to a previously released affidavit. He shot John and Yvette Hoffman multiple times, according to the affidavit.

Belter is said to have since driven to two more state legislators’ homes. One not in the house, but in the other, I met law enforcement and left.

At about 3:30am he arrived at Holtiman’s house. According to the affidavit, officers who knew about the shooting at Hoffman’s house also went to Hortman’s house, conducted welfare checks and saw Bolters who had swapped the shootout before fleeing on foot. Melissa and Mark Hortman were killed.

The shooting began a two-day manhunt, which authorities described as the largest in state history.

Bolter tried to kill Hoffman’s daughter, prosecutors say

New details from the investigation revealed that Belter not only shot and hurt John and Yvette Hoffman, but he also tried to shoot his adult daughter, Hope told reporters on July 15.

Thompson said Hope Hoffmann had not been shot “miraculously.”

“John and Yvette acted incredibly bravely to put themselves between the bullets of Bolter and their daughter,” Thompson said.

Hope Hoffman told USA Today in a statement that he was relieved that the perpetrators were being charged “to the fullest extent of the law.”

“I wasn’t physically shot, but I’m now coexisting forever with PTSD, where I’m almost shot in front of me and seeing my parents in the face, looking at my guns in front of my life,” she said.

New security footage reveals details of Hortman Murders

Additional footage from security cameras and police vehicles at Hortmans’ home revealed new details about what happened during Melissa and Mark Hortman’s murder, Thompson said.

Before 3:30am, Bolters were pulled up into the house and disguised in an SUV designed to look like a police vehicle with illuminated lights. He approached the door, rang the doorbell and cried out “Police. Welfare check,” Thompson said.

Mark Hortman answers the door, Boerter makes his flashlight shine in his eyes and tells him there are reports of shots fired at the house. Mark Hortman said he was asleep and had no idea about the shooting. He asked for his name and badge number, and according to Thompson, Beltar replied, “Nelson, 286.”

Officers from the Brooklyn Park Police Station arrived while Belter still spoke to Mark Hortman at the door. After a while, Belter fired a “volley” shot at the house, Thompson said.

The officers then exchanged gunshots with Bolters. The camera captured the sound of another round of the shooting. Thompson said Belter shot and killed Mark Hortman at the entrance of the house before overtaking him and saying that he “shot Melissa Hortman several times at close range and killed her as he tried to escape the stairs.”

“In the same moment, you can hear Boerter kill the Hortmans dog. Their Golden Retriever Gilbert,” Thompson said.

The contents of the letter to the FBI Director have been revealed

Thompson said a key part of the investigation is determining whether Boerter is acting alone and what his motivation is. He said investigators were “confident” that Boerter had acted alone and there was no evidence that no one had helped him.

The investigation “confirmed that this was an act of political extremism,” Thompson said. “Vance Belter set out that night to commit a targeted political assassination.”

Although Bolter left no writings describing his political beliefs, he left a letter in an abandoned car near the farm house. Thompson said the car had a cowboy hat on its hood.

The letter addressed to Patel includes a confession that Boerter was the man who shot Hoffmans and Hortman, Thompson said. In the letter, Belter claimed he was trained “from the book” by the US military and that Minnesota Governor Tom Waltz “climbed” to kill other lawmakers, Thompson said. The letter also alleged that the unnamed people “threatened to hurt their families if he didn’t participate.”

Thompson said conspiracy theories are fantasy.

“Was it a delusion that he believes, or was it a delusion designed as an effort to mislead our investigation, or frankly, excuse his crime? That’s a good question. It certainly seems to be designed to excuse his crime.”

Immigrants rely on gofundme

0

Immigrants and their families will be online from Gofundme to onlyfans to raise funds to protect themselves from deportation.

play

In only a photo on fans.com, Columbia’s previous model smiles under a white visor sunbathing in South Florida.

However, the snapshot taken by the pool a few months ago is far from her reality. She is trapped in a Louisiana Immigration Customs Enforcement Detention Center.

The cost of deportation defense can hit thousands of dollars, with the number of migrant families increasing, and relying on online funding to achieve its goals.

Gofundme.com, an analysis of the fundraiser for USA Today, one of the largest crowdsourcing sites in the United States, has discovered the majority in the last two months of dozens of campaigns that have raised more than $1.8 million since President Donald Trump took office.

As the president’s massive deportation campaign intensifies, public generosity towards fundraisers appears to be growing.

Organizers raised $1.7 million from GoFundMe in June and July, but it was around $141,000 in April and May. Before June, many of the fundraisers with the keyword “ice” were campaigns related to ice hockey, ice cream and ice bucket challenges. This raised money for patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

GoFundMe refused to discuss the increase with USA Today or provide internal data on immigration-related fundraisers. A spokesperson said GoFundMe has internally examined 15 campaigns related to immigration detention. That is, they said that both the organizers and the beneficiaries had been reviewed.

onlyfans.com did not respond to requests for comment on immigration detention-related accounts. The Colombian woman’s page plays “before” and “after” of her situation, clearly centering on her ice detention.

USA Today spoke with her on a video call to the ice facility where she is in custody. They requested anonymity out of fear that their fundraising could affect her future immigration debt hearings.

In mid-July, her American-born husband was preparing to drive 14 hours a night to surprise her at a Louisiana detention facility where detained women are allowed to visit one hour per week.

On a video call with USA Today, she hugged the phone receiver in front of a row of grey bundles and a woman, moving around in sweat. The cherry blossom red polish she had on her nails when she was arrested was almost growing.

Pleas for money answered online

For the Department of Homeland Security, immigrants detained are “criminal illegal aliens.” DHS promotes immigrant arrests on its social media pages, taking mug shots and candid photos of serious criminal offenders.

The reality is that most of the arrested are not hardened offenders, according to data analysis by immigration researcher Austin Cochel.

Federal agents are dyeing courts to arrest people who are pursuing legal immigration routes. Attack farms, racetracks, construction sites, restaurants. They then detain people who have been handed over by local law enforcement for traffic violations.

ICE prioritizes detention for anyone in the United States who have no legal status, including those who have applied to stay legally or who have joined a legal program during the Biden administration.

“USA Today looks forward to reporting on fundraising for brave law enforcement agencies facing an 830% increase in American victims and assaults against them,” DHS Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin said in an email.

Joanna Martinez, 22, one of the organizers of the vetted GofundMe, posted a story about her family on Gofundme.com in May after Ice took her father into custody.

Jose Martinez crossed the border from Mexico nearly 30 years ago without permission. He has no criminal history. He was on his way to set up a drywall in Charlotte, North Carolina, she said, ice pulling him.

He spent a month in ice custody. The $3,665 raised on the site helped me post a $4,000 bail. However, families still face thousands of dollars in legal costs for their legal residency applications.

“I’m still worried about being woken up crying in the middle of the night,” she said. “Is this going to happen again?”

Colombian women are among those facing criminal charges.

She comes to the US legally on a tourist visa and pursues legal residence through her spouse, according to their account, but she was accused of driving in June of being affected and handed over to ice.

Still, her and others’ petitions for financial assistance document the financial emergency for families of missing caregivers and absent providers.

Some of the 94 GoFundMe campaigns, which began in April, won double-digit donations. Others are often interested in the six-digit area.

The two California mothers, whose youngest, still in high school, raised $6,721 a week.

The married Vermont home builder who co-owns the company has raised $36,975 since June 18th.

Oregon’s vineyard manager renowned for his grape growth expertise: $150,804 since June 14th.

In his blurb, Bryant Maganya described the “most painful and confused time” of his life after Mexican wife Yokari was taken into custody during an interview with Green Cards.

“What seemed like a very important and exciting day for both of us is that we were so close to becoming a wife’s legal status that it turned into one of our worst nightmares when she was detained on the ice,” he said in a campaign that raised $3,643 as of July 14th.

Luma Mufleh, chief executive of the Kentucky-based Fugeres family, said despite her legal status, she heheed before hitting “send” in a campaign to raise funds for Bowling Green students who were detained by ICE shortly after graduating from high school. Nonprofits support student refugees.

“We didn’t know if people would support that,” she said. “We’re raising funds in a community that’s gone 60% for Trump. I didn’t want any backlash.”

But the opposite happened: “We raised $20,000 within 48 hours, most of which came from small donors,” she said, and the student was released from ice custody more than two weeks later.

Wanting to stay, falling in love

A Colombian woman met her husband when he was in a relationship and visited her country. His parents grew up there and his grandmother is still a resident.

The two remained in touch, and years later they were divorced by then and reunited when she traveled on a tourist visa to South Florida.

“One thing led to something else, and now we’re married,” he told USA Today.

“She’s beautiful. She likes to see everything on the bright side. She has a strong belief in God and spirituality. She has brought me a lot of peace with that mentality and that attitude,” he said.

Marrying her “it was an easy choice,” he said. They decided to upload slightly covered nude photos and videos they had taken as part of their intimacy.

Her only fan handle @blondeonbond features photos and catchphrases of sensual women in a revealing bikini.

It generated a small number of subscriptions, he said. However, what many of the GoFundMe campaigns have is yet to be drawn.

“I hesitated about it because I don’t know where it would lead, but I’m trying to do something to come up with money,” he said.

Uber’s full-time driving was sufficient for daily expenses, but the rapidly escalating costs of legal immigration defense were not sufficient. He estimates he has already spent $15,000, including her legal residence petition and attorney’s fees, to protect her from deportation.

“Sometimes, I’m full of faith and I think everything’s fine,” the woman told USA Today on a video call. But then I lose my heart. ”

In the photos posted to her account, she is sitting at the edge of a river in a rush in a green two-piece swimsuit. The drawing is intended to be sexy, but her words are a daddy.

Prince Harry travels to Angola to support the mine clearance almost 30 years after Diana’s visit

0

CNN

Prince Harry traveled to Angola earlier this week to meet the country’s president almost 30 years after his mother’s memorable visit to South African countries.

According to the international NGO of Halo Trust, the Duke of Sussex shared his audience’s vision of a “landmines-free country” with Angola President Joan Lourenzo on Tuesday.

“We thanked him (Harry) for his extraordinary dedication and investment in the vision of a landmine-free country, and he expressed his intention to continue supporting our work with even more important contracts for the next three years,” James Cohan, CEO of the nonprofit, said in a statement.

Princess Diana advocated clearance for landmine 28 years ago when she visited Juambo, a city in central Angolan.

Images of Diana, one of the world’s most famous people, are believed to be able to mobilize public opinion on deadly devices, as she walks a path that has been made clear in a lively minefield.

Foreign and national actors killed and wounded thousands of people in the bloody battle for independence from Portugal, and the Civil War of 1975-2002, scattered the fields, villages and towns of decades of battle in Angola.

Princess Diana walked through the active minefields as part of a campaign to ban deadly weapons worldwide.

Human rights agencies repeatedly called for a ban on international treaties on landmines that came into effect several months before Diana’s death in August 1997. In September 2019, Harry followed his mother’s footsteps along the minefields of Juambo.

According to the Halo Trust, around 88,000 Angolans were victims of the landmine. But the burning effect of that brutal legacy is still felt today.

In 2019, the mother of an 8-year-old landmine survivor recalled her sadness over the death of her 10-year-old nephew Frederico, who was killed after the two boys were playing football.

The explosion seriously injured his son Manuel, and the child amputated his leg. “The war ended a long time ago,” Hermelinda told CNN at the time.

“A lot of people pass by that place. There are always a lot of people there. They never found it,” she said. “We had to do it the day the kids were there.”

Why are there good trouble protests on Thursday?

0

play

Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in more than 1,600 locations across the country on July 17th, and it is expected to oppose many of the Trump administration’s policies.

The name of a good trouble life of protest comes from the phrases that are commonly used by the repetitions of the second half. John Lewis, a symbol of civil rights, argued that it is important to engage in “good troubles, necessary troubles” to achieve positive social change.

Often called the “moral compass,” Lewis was one of the most vocal critics of President Donald Trump’s first administration. The protest is scheduled for the fifth anniversary of Lewis’ death.

Organizers called for the Trump administration to take the stance on women’s rights, cuts on safety net programs, treatment of immigration, and the use of the National Guard to quell the largely peaceful protests in California.

Selina Stewart, chief executive of the Women Voters League, one of the organised groups, said Trump’s rules of fear, opposition and opposition silence. Instead, she said Americans should unite and embody Lewis’ ideals of social justice and work.

“What would he encourage us to do at this moment?” Stewart asked. “It’s going to look different to all of us, but we all know that we can do something and a lot of us can do a lot.”

The White House said Trump is offering what he said he would do.

“Nearly 80 million Americans have given President Trump historic orders to make America great again, and he is making that promise in record time,” said White House spokesman Liz Houston.

“Service to your community”

The group estimates show that many advocacy groups planning future protests were also involved in the nationwide “No Kings” demonstrations on June 14, attracting millions of attendees at 2,100 locations. Overall, since April, there have been monthly nationwide protests against the administration’s policies.

The flagship event will be held in Chicago, with hundreds of small events scheduled for cities and towns across the country in Atlanta, Missouri, Missouri, Annapolis, Maryland and Washington, DC. Several international protests are scheduled.

In addition to protests and marching, some groups will hold “moral gatherings” at state houses and federal buildings, food drives, teaching ins, voter registration drives and other community building events, said Allison Pugliam, co-director of the Declaration of the American Democracy.

“People are showing up in their communities in the way they feel they’re coming to show up. That’s exactly what it meant when he talks about good troubles and finds a way to serve your community,” she said.

Why Thursday?

Rather than holding a national protest on Saturday, as advocacy groups have mostly done this year, organizers have decided to hold an event on the fifth anniversary of Lewis’ death, despite falling on Thursday.

Daryl Jones, co-leader of the Transformative Justice Coalition, said organizers had the permission of Lewis’ family to use his name in the protest. They asked that it was not a gloomy opportunity, but a catalyst for his cause.

Many of the protests will take place after work days have ended to increase participation. Some are scheduled for early morning.

Organizers said they were not worried that Thursday’s protest would mean reduced turnouts.

“This is the largest civil rights movement action of the largest one-day voting rights (and) internationally in all 50 states and in US history, and the biggest weekday action of the year,” promised Barbara Arnwine, another co-leader of the Transferative Justice Coalition. “People are happy to gather to protest the celebration.”

Large and small events

This day, model advocacy groups have been using it since spring, hosting events in as many locations as possible, rather than one or two major cities.

This approach can be ignored by the public, making it more difficult for people to connect with local resources and conduct local advocacy, organizers said they attended a single, large event and didn’t know what to do next.

Palm Beach County, Florida, home to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Estate, will be the location for five events, including a Car Parade in March, and a speaker talking about Lewis’ heritage.

At Yonkers in New York, an inseparable chapter with the local NAACP worked together to host an event at Van der Dong Park, near the station and library. They expect at least 200 people to attend.

“The idea is to make a little noise,” said Irene O’Connor, who co-founded the NYCD 16/15 Individual Group.

Kisha Skipper, president of NAACP-Yonkers Branch #2188, said holding events on weekdays and after work is an effort to make it easier for families to attend and attract young people. Lewis became a supporter while he was in college and held a lunch counter sit-in in Nashville.

In addition to bubbles, sidewalk chokes and sign-making stations, the event will also include voter education and registration information, Skipper said.

In Annapolis, Maryland, seven local organizations worked together to march over two local bridges.

“We march over the bridge and represent the march over John Lewis’ Edmund Petus Bridge,” said Linda Davis, one of the organizers competing in Racial Justice in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. “We are still marching for civil and human rights like he did. We will continue to march until we have citizens and human rights.”

Thermal Advisory for the Northeast. National Hurricane Centre Viewing the Bay

play

ARLINGTON, Va. — A predictors said it was July 16 after a powerful storm swept through much of the East, killing two people in New Jersey and killing multiple stations in the New York City subway system.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory in New York City until 10pm. There, a video circulated on July 14th, showing passengers on a subway train looking at the station, showing the water was rushing.

“Heads up, New Yorker,” New York Mayor Eric Adams said in a social media post Tuesday. “We were able to see another heat wave starting tomorrow, which means dangerous heat many times.”

The heat advisory also includes parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, with two people on July 14th.

The threat of further south storms is not over, and flash flooding “scattered” is possible in parts of Virginia and Maryland, the Meteorological Bureau said. Heavy rain overwhelmed both states’ roads on July 14th, forcing Virginia’s rapid water rescue.

Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Centre was paying attention to the Bay due to the potential for tropical development this week. So far, there have been three names this season called Tropical Storms.

Parts of the southeast were facing double wamy as they thoroughly wiped out tropical storms across central Florida and were projected to land on Thursday, according to Accuweather Hurricane experts. “More organized tropical systems will pose heavy rain and wider flood risks,” said Alex Dasilva, an expert at Accuweather hurricanes.

The National Weather Service says flood monitoring is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon and will remain in effect until Friday.

“People living in areas that are prone to flooding should be prepared to take action in the event of a flood,” the Weather Service warned.

A new recall of injected penicillin may risk benefits against syphilis

Drugmaker Pfizer warns doctors that there is a low supply of vicillin LA, a long-acting injection of the antibiotic penicillin, a preferred option to treat syphilis during pregnancy.

The news, the latest twist on drug shortages that began in 2023, follows the recall of certain lots of Vicillin LA, which have been found to be contaminated with suspended particles. Pfizer says he has not received any reports of adverse events related to the recalled shot.

“We are identifying the root cause associated with stoppers supplied by external vendors and implementing appropriate corrections and precautions,” the company said in a statement, adding that it has the highest priority on patient safety. “We are fully aware of the importance of this drug for our patients and are working as quickly as possible to resolve the problem.”

Benzathine Penicillin G, sold as vicillin, is used to treat many common bacterial infections such as the streptococcal throat in adults and children. One shot can last up to two weeks, making it especially useful for those who are unable to swallow pills or don’t remember to take them. However, in most cases, if shots are not available, doctors can resort to alternatives like the antibiotic doxycycline.

However, benzathine penicillin G is the only product that has been approved and recommended to treat sexually transmitted syphilis during pregnancy. If an infectious disease is arrested early, a single injection can prevent the infection from spreading to a newborn, a condition known as congenital syphilis.

Without treatment, syphilis during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage and stillbirth. It can be fatal for babies too. Syphilis can cause not only bone and teeth deformities, but also vision and hearing problems in babies.

As the rate of syphilis in adults increased, more babies were infected too. Over the past decade, the rate of congenital syphilis has increased from 335 in 2012 to over 3,800 in 2023, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“We are in the midst of the crisis of congenital syphilis and have been calling for an emergency declaration of congenital syphilis for many years,” said Dr. Jeffrey Krausner, professor of clinical population and public health sciences at the University of Southern California, Keck University School of Medicine. “This threatens to make it even worse.”

This shot was an important part of the strategy several states are using to suppress the rate of congenital syphilis rise.

With so many pregnant women infected with syphilis, it is being promoted in states, including New Mexico and Minnesota, testing all pregnant women with syphilis at multiple stages of pregnancy and whenever they appear in emergency rooms or emergency clinics.

After the first positive test, the provider recommends treating pregnant patients at the same visit at the same visit without waiting for the results of the second confirmation test.

This push for one-stop testing and treatment has already been effective.

“We found out that the latest release of data has slowed the rates, but this was really exciting,” said a data-savvy CDC official who was asked not to name because they were not allowed to speak to the media. The advancements are the result of efforts to bring awareness to control syphilis and congenital syphilis, officials said.

Bicillin LA has recently been short of its own in 2023. Meanwhile, the US Food and Drug Administration is permitting imports of two comparable products, a French drug called Extencilline and Lentocilin, imported from Portugal and sold by entrepreneur Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs. These imports continue to be approved.

Erin Fox, assistant chief pharmacy director at the University of Utah Health, said these forms of drugs are difficult to use.

“In a health system, imported products are extremely difficult,” she said. Coding of drug bars is not recognized by most hospital systems and can be confusing because there may be differences in the way products are mixed and diluted.

Her hospital has dealt with shortages by being wise about who gets a shot of Vicillin. You don’t need to use imported products yet.

Pfizer has it We are also working to increase its supply. The company stopped shipping pediatric doses in 2023 and instead focused on creating adult doses to prioritize supply of pregnant patients. According to the FDA’s drug shortage website, Pfizer expected to deliver pediatric doses in October.

The company is currently advising customers to provide up-to-date information on vicillin supply by mid-August. Pfizer said it will distribute available supply of shots until the stock recovers fully. Providers must complete a medical request form and the company will send supplies to each patient.

Sterile injectable products such as vicillin are particularly vulnerable to shortages, as they have more complex manufacturing processes than pills and tend to cause quality control issues. In this case, Pfizer is the only supplier of Vicillin in the US.

Nonprofit Associations of STD Directors He said he is gathering information from members to understand how far the recall is impacted.

One of the committees met on Monday, and all participants were in the process of returning the dose of vicillin to Pfizer. Elizabeth Finley, senior director of organizational communications and programs, said:

“We had a small reprieve for probably a year in terms of stable supply, and now this is a complete kick in the teeth, really threatening our ability to prevent and control syphilis,” Klausner said.

The CDC previously posted recommendations for care of patients with syphilis. It’s missing, but that information has since been deleted. Fox said he investigated the medical system’s Pharmacists Association’s drug shortage and asked the agency to repost it, but had not received a response.

CDC staff working on syphilis control have been hit hard by recent government layoffs, but about 200 people were revived in June. Federal funding cuts also hamper state and local efforts to control sexually transmitted diseases.

FDA updated its drug shortage page Here is a link to Pfizer’s recent guidance However, they have not posted an announcement of Pfizer’s recall.

A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services spokesperson referred to Pfizer with questions about recalls and potential supply issues.

“I’m now beginning to see a decline in syphilis testing with cuts in funding for both national and local STD programs,” a CDC official said. “Medicaid and Medicare reductions, and other programs, are devastating for syphilis control.”
