Russia claims that its forces captured major Ukrainian towns as a pace of offensive gatherings on the ground.

Kiev, Ukraine

Russia says its forces captured Chashiv Yah, a major town in eastern Ukraine, after nearly 18 months of intense battles in the area.

Ukrainian forces confirmed Thursday that Russians attacked a location near Chashiv Yar, a few miles west of Bahmut. However, it denied that the town was lost. “Chasiv Yar is under the control of the 11th Army Corps,” the Corps said Thursday.

The Russian Ministry of Defense issued drone footage showing the troops in parts of the town, saying more than 4,200 buildings and structures, which have made around 50 Ukrainian soldiers prisoners, have been cleared.

Chasiv Yar’s prewar population was 12,000, but is now abandoned after two years of airstrikes and artillery attacks.

Russian forces launched an attack on Chashiv Yah in April last year after ousting Ukrainian forces out of Bahmut. Analysts estimate that they suffer thousands of victims as they try to overcome Ukraine’s defense.

Deep State, the Ukrainian open source mapping site that illustrates the forefront of the war, has shown that Kiev’s army still exists at the western edge of the town. A video from the Russian Ministry of Defense showed military forces planting flags in two regions, but said the Russians had no control over those regions.

If confirmed, the Chasiv Yar seizures provide high ground for the Russians and threaten what is known as the Ukrainian fortress belt in the Donetsk region, including Slovyansk, Kramatorsk and Kostyantynivka.

These cities are regularly hit by Russian missiles and gliding bombs launched by aircraft. One person was killed Thursday and about 12 people were injured in a strike that destroyed part of a five-storey building in Kramatorsk, according to the local junta.

Throughout the Donetsk region, Russian troops have moved forward this year despite serious injuries. The strategic town of Pokrovsk is surrounded by three sides, with Russian units expanding to the borders of Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Analysts say the Russian army adopted tactics and moved to avoid Ukrainian drone defenses on foot or on small groups of motorcycles.

Meanwhile, Russia launched another major missile and drone attack on the capital Kiev early on Thursday. At least eight people have died, local officials said, the six-year-old and his mother.

Ukrainian President Voldymi Zelessunky said more than 50 people were hospitalized. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, nine were kids, the highest number in one night.

Women receive support when apartment buildings hit during Russian missile and drone strikes during the Russian attack on Ukraine on July 31, 2025.

One Russian missile was “immediately attacked” in an apartment in the western district of Sviatshunsky, according to Timur Tokachenko, the head of the military regime in the Ukrainian capital.

One man was trapped for more than three hours before being rescued from the tile rub, but the other relatives who weren’t waiting worriedly were waiting as the rescue team tried to remove the debris. One woman on the scene told CNN that her mother and sister were in the building when the missile struck.

Iryna Tsymokh, 53, said she and her family just returned from the shelter when another attack occurred. “The door was blown away. My child was groaning so much. We all jumped out in our evening clothes,” she said.

Zoya Onishenko said her apartment had been destroyed. She was still alive just because she spent the night in Dacha in her country.

Zelensky said the Russian army fired more than 300 drones and eight missiles in the capital, deliberately calculated insidious attacks to overload the air defense system.

Texas Constituency, Tsunami, Kamala Harris, Interest Rates, Tariffs, Economics, MLB, Ozzy Osbourne: Daily Briefing

The rezoning race before 2026 is intensifying

Democrats across the country are looking for ways to block or counter Trump-led efforts by Republicans to redraw the map of Texas Congress ahead of the 2026 midterm elections

This is a rare medieval constituency in Texas. The president and Republicans hope that by changing the Texas borders, GOP will help win up to five seats for 2026 American home control.

  • What will the new map look like? The Texas delegation has a total of 38 seats under the new map. It is second in California’s 52 seats. But five Texas seats are redrawn in a bid to imagine Republicans lifting their legs to their candidates along with GOP voters.
  • Partisan scrambling to draw maps: House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York, traveled to Texas on Wednesday (released a map proposed by a Republican on the same day). The Democrats’ coast-to-coast coast coast promised a full-scale counterattack if the lonely star nation proceeded with rezoning.

Homeless services are undergoing dramatic changes

President Donald Trump has long criticised how the US manages homelessness, claiming that public roads are not safe for homeless or residents. Now, the president has declared that homeless organizations will first lock up people with drug and mental health challenges as they are receiving federal funding. Longtime social workers, health professionals and mental health service providers say that law and order approaches are likely to exacerbate homelessness across the country, especially as Trump’s Order does not include new funds for mental health or drug treatment. Furthermore, they say the president appears to misunderstand the basic drivers of homelessness. People can’t afford a home.

The Fed did not cut interest rates this week. But here they might

The Federal Reserve held stable interest rates between 4.25% and 4.5% on Wednesday. This is exactly the same as the interest rate trader bets were projected after a policy-making body meeting in June. Traders currently consider the Federal Reserve’s October 29 meeting the most likely to cut interest rates. This means that short-term interest rates, which are heavily influenced by the Fed’s decision, could rise for a few more weeks.

  • Medical personnel boarded the flight after landing safely around 7:45pm.
  • The plane was decoupled to Minneapolis St. After Paul International Airport encountered turbulence.

Delta flights from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam have been decoupled to Minneapolis St. The airline said Paul International Airport was launched after 25 people were taken to hospital after encountering “severe turbulence” on July 30.

The airline said medical personnel boarded the plane shortly after a safe landing around 7:45pm. The plane carried 275 passengers and 13 crew members.

The plane encountered turbulence shortly after reaching 37,000 feet, climbing briefly to about 38,000 feet and descending to less than 35,800 feet. It later stabilized at an altitude of 37,000 feet, according to flight tracking service Flightradar24.

“We appreciate the support of all the emergency responders involved,” the airline said in a statement. “Safety is the number one value in Delta, and the Delta Care team works directly with our customers to support their immediate needs.”

Swedish man convicted of roles in the murder of a Jordanian pilot by ISIS in 2015

Reuters

The Swedish man committed serious war crimes and terrorist crimes on Thursday in his role in killing a Jordanian Air Force pilot burned in Syria a decade ago, Stockholm District Court said in its verdict.

The Swedish, identified as Osama Klayem in court documents, was sentenced to life in prison for participating in the execution of Muas al-Kasasbe, who was captured in Syria in December 2014 and then burned alive in a cage.

Krayem, 32, was previously convicted of involvement in the attacks in Paris in 2015 and Brussels in 2016, and was transferred from France to Sweden on trial in Stockholm.

Krayem denied acting intentionally. His Swedish lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The ISIS extremist group, once imposing terrifying rule on millions of people in Syria and Iraq, captured a Jordanian pilot and later released a video showing his execution.

This court sketch from November 2021 shows Osama Krame, one of the accused, who is on trial in Paris.

Evidence showed that the fire that killed Al Kasasbe was illuminated by another man, but Klayem was also involved in the murder, the court said.

“The district court has found that the defendant, through his actions, should actively contribute to the pilot’s death and be considered an assailant,” Judge Anna Liljenberg Garesjo said in a court statement.

ISIS ruled Swas in Iraq and Syria between 2014 and 2017.

Under Swedish law, courts can test individuals for violations of international law made overseas.

Fed rate reduction in September? Analysts are skeptical after Powell commented

0

play

On the surface at least, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell played it in the middle with a big question looming about the central bank’s decision to hold the rates steady for the fifth straight meeting.

Are the central banks ready to resume their interest rate cuts in September, as the futures market and many economists expect?

“We didn’t make a decision about September,” Powell told reporters. He said economic data will guide Fed officials, and that there will be two more inflation reports and two more employment reports by the meeting in mid-September.

He also nodded to the risks on both sides of the ledger. Raising rates too early could rekindle inflation, and inflation rates in 2022 reached a 40-year high of 9.1% due to a pandemic-related product and workers shortage.

Powell cited “the risk of drawbacks to the labor market.”

When will interest rates fall?

But while the economic course over the next six weeks will determine what the Fed will do, many forecasters and futures markets believe Powell will deliver a “Hawkish” message on Wednesday, reducing the likelihood that civil servants are ready to act in September.

After the Fed’s July 30 meeting, Fed fund futures reduced the chances of a September cut from around 65% to 45%.

“We believe that risk uncertainty and balance will ensure that most of the committees will remain in standby mode for at least a few months. The next rate cut will not come until December.”

How do high interest rates affect consumers?

For millions of Americans, that means relatively high borrowing costs for car loans, credit card balances, mortgages and other debts for at least several months. But that also means that the bank savings rates are high for older people and others who rely on bond assets.

With the already slowing job markets and the economy, the Fed chief previously acknowledged that authorities are likely to be cutting as inflation has eased, but is waiting to see how much President Donald Trump’s cleaning fees are feeding consumer prices.

That may take a while.

The Fed will lower rates to bolster a drooping economy, keep them longer to raise rates and lower inflation.

Here’s why I think Powell has sent a careful message about lowering rates in the short term:

  • Powell noted that while the labour market is meeting the Fed’s full employment target, the unemployment rate is only 4.1% – inflation is 2.7%, still surpassing the 2% target. “That’s my way of thinking, and now I want a modest, restrictive attitude, a modest, restrictive attitude,” he said.
  • Despite the Fed’s higher interest rates than usual, “the economy is not working like (in some cases) restrictive policies are inappropriately hampered,” Powell said. The Fed chief doesn’t sound concerned that high prices are hurting consumers and businesses. “It suggested he rarely (trimming the rate) right away,” said Samuel Tomes, an economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics.
  • Job growth is slowing, but Powell noted that growth in labor supply has also been downshifted due to Trump’s crackdown on immigration. It has stabilized unemployment at a low level, and Powell said unemployment should be the Fed’s main focus. In other words, a decline in unemployment rate could prevent the Fed from being cut short immediately despite poor job acquisitions, Pierce said.
  • Powell initially seemed to throw bones at rate cut supporters. “The reasonable basic case is that the impact on inflation may be short-lived, reflecting one-off changes in price levels,” he said. That sounds like the rate cut might be around the corner. But he later said, “It could also be that the inflation effect could become more permanent, and that could be a risk of being evaluated and managed.”
  • By September, “The idea is that in our view it is not sufficient to convince the committee that tariffs are proven to be one lift into inflation, or that the labour market is crucially weakened to ease policy,” Pierce wrote.
  • Powell said the impact of tariffs on inflation could take a little longer. “We’re away from seeing where things settle,” he said. “I don’t feel like I’m near the end of that process.”
  • Tariffs have not started pushing prices up, Powell said the Fed is already “seeing” inflation on goods by not raising prices. “It could be a pushback to people who might want a lower fee right now,” wrote Michael Ferroli, an economist at JP Morgan Chase.

Ukraine arrests air force officer for spying on F-16, Mirage jet

Kyiv, July 30 (Reuters) – Ukraine’s domestic security agency has detained an air force officer on charges of spying on Russia by leaking the location of precious F-16 and Mirage 2000 fighter jets, officials said Wednesday.

The Ukrainian Security Services (SBU) said in a statement that an unidentified officer accused of helping Russia in carrying out air strikes by providing coordinates and proposing strike tactics, has been accused of helping Russia in carrying out air strikes by providing coordinates and proposing strike tactics.

“In particular, the priority targets for the enemy were the airfields based on the F-16, Mirage 2000s and Su-24,” he said. The F-16 is made in the USA, Mirages is French, while the SU-24 is an elderly Soviet jet bomber.

“The agents collected coordinates for the location, schedule, and order of their departures.”

The SBU said the suspect also handed over data on Ukrainian Air Force personnel and handed the combat tactics to the Russian military intelligence news office.

Moscow regularly targets Ukrainian airfields and military bases, particularly areas that it considers to be home to Western-supported weapons, such as the F-16 and Mirage Jet.

The two aircraft were important to strengthen Ukraine’s defense against shattering Russian air attacks and battlefield progress in the 3.5-year-old full-scale invasion in Moscow.

This month, the SBU detained two Chinese citizens on suspicion of spying on Ukraine’s Neptune anti-ship missile program, a key part of Kiev’s domestic arms industry.

14 Easy Ways to Adjust More Moves to Your Day – and Potentially Longer

0

You know the drill – exercise helps you feel better, prevent illness, and live longer. But that knowledge doesn’t always get you I was motivated enough to head to the gym. Whether you have “GymTimedation” or are working out is not yours. You can improve your health by making simple and powerful changes to how you work along your normal routine.

Dana Santas, a certified strength and conditioning expert known as a “mobility maker,” says optimizing movements in daily activities is a practice based on the heat generation of non-acting activity, or a neat concept.

“It includes all the movements we make throughout the day that are not part of formal training, including walking into the kitchen, doing chores, standing and fidgeting rather than sitting.” “These small actions can really connect and play a meaningful role in our daily energy expenditure and metabolic health.”

Using a desk treadmill is one easy way to adapt your exercise to your busy schedule.

“But it’s not just about burning neat calories. It’s also about how our bodies are built to move and function. From a mental and physical perspective, every movement is important.”

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Americans spend around 8 to 8 hours a day sitting down. Spending a lot of time is associated with a high risk of preterm birth, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.

However, you can counteract sedentary tendency by becoming better aware of the ways you are moving throughout the day and looking at ways to become more active in the ways that work for you. “The frequent and diverse movements of the day support joint mobility, muscle health, bone density, circulation, mental focus and even sleep,” she added.

As such, Santas often encourages people to incorporate “movement snacks,” or short activities that break the lengthy period of sitting.

Nicholas Lornik, a physiotherapist based in New York City, said the more intense the more that he does some of these activities, the better. It can be tracked by measuring your heart rate, or by using a “talk test” that can help you measure your heart rate, or by using a deviceless “talk test” that can help you measure your heart rate or measure your intensity according to your ability to speak during exercise.

1. While your food is hot, Do squats Or rather than sitting on the wall or scrolling your phone down the street, you’re kneeling around the office floor. “It addresses the strength of your lower limbs and raises your heart rate. All of these things improve your fitness,” said Rolnik. “And increasing your heart rate will make your cardiovascular ability (improve).”

If you want to improve your strength and endurance over time, try doing one squat every 8 seconds, then try squat every 4 seconds in a few weeks, Rolnick said. You can also gradually increase your ability to perform wall sitting by starting with a small knee bend and moving to a full 90 degree seating over time.

2. When you are running errands, Park as far away from the store as possible. This allows you to add shorter activities to your schedule and increase your daily step count.

3. Better yet, walk or ride a bike to nearby errands Instead of driving. “It is also a wonderful secret weapon in running errands and doing these things. “As metabolic demand increases, the workload the legs and heart have to do.”

4. Skip the elevator and take the stairs. And if there is an escalator, walk rather than letting them do all the work for you. Climbing the stairs is associated with improved body composition and lower levels of serum or blood lipids, including cholesterol and triglycerides, Rolnik said.

You can maximize the benefits by skipping a staircase or two to increase the range of movement and foot demand. This challenge improves muscle strength and blood glucose control, he added. Climbing stairs more than five times per day at home is associated with a 7% to 9% lower risk of all-cause death compared to not climbing stairs.

5. When you’re on the phone, Instead of sitting on the sofa, walk around the block. Walking is associated with a lower risk of diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease and dementia.

6. While enjoying your favorite show, It will be active at the same time. You can lift weights, squat them, do other resistance exercises, and walk and run on the treadmill.

7. Invest in a standing desk And use it. Even if you are standing while working, there is no active movement, but you will still have more muscles involved than sitting. A 2024 survey found that desk-bound workers are at 16% higher risk of early death from any cause and 34% higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.

But according to an Australia-based 2024 survey, you should still break the match of standing on a break in motion. Standing for hours is associated with an increased likelihood of problems such as varicose veins and emotional sensations while standing.

8. Please work outside If possible. This is another way to harm your health when sitting too long.

9. Use a desktop pad mill or walking pad during work days.

10. While you brush your teeth, Try a calf salary increase. If you have balance issues, practice exercise first and place your hands on the wall before attempting multitasking, Santa said. Alternatively, she likes squats and sitting on the wall while brushing her teeth.

11. Bring your grocery purchases to your car Instead of using a cart. “Accumulating volume at even lower intensity will help you improve your fitness,” Rolnik said.

12. If you’re already out for a walk, increase your pace. Fastest walking, defined in one study as more than 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) per hour, has a 40% lower risk of type 2 diabetes and is associated with improved cognitive health and mobility. You can also add some walking lunges at various points during your walk, or step up on the curb or bench, Santa suggested.

13. Make your chores faster. For example, vacuuming faster increases the demand for your arms and legs and increases your heart rate, Rolnik said.

14. Set a timer and walk for 5-10 minutes every hour. Over the course of 8 hours, these exercise snacks will take a 40-80 minute walk. Studies have shown that moderately intense physical activity for 60 to 75 minutes can reduce the risk of premature death associated with sitting for many hours each day, he added.

Photo: International Cowboys and Cowgirl Day in Kenya

Country music and cowboy culture are often associated with the US, but what was billed as Africa’s first International Cowboys and Cowgirls Day showed just how popular the genre is in Kenya.

The event, held last Saturday at Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi, attracted hundreds of fans wearing boots, cowboy hats and denim. At the heart of the festival was Kenya’s beloved country music ambassador, Sir Elvis. That performance was a major draw for both longtime fans and curious newcomers.

Alongside the performance, participants enjoyed mechanical bull rides, shopped western wear and took part in a cowboy-themed game, bringing a touch of Wild West to Nairobi.

The creator of Elijah Maliki, who runs local clothing and event companies Cowboys and Cowgirls, said the event was a sign of country music’s popularity. East African countries have a connection to this genre, dating back to the 1920s and 1930s.

“You can listen to country music in small bars around Nairobi, but not on this scale. It was amazing to see the number of fans of the Kenyan genre,” said Fredrik Larnely, a photographer who recorded the event.

Lerneryd described the atmosphere of the day as “absolutely electricity,” adding, “people really all in.”

“I hope that we were able to capture the love, passion and joy that our fans have in country music. It was all love,” he added.

“The event has the potential to bring art and culture to a bigger platform and bring great momentum,” organizer Leila Auer told CNN.

Trump shows dramatic changes in homeless services

0

Trump wants to lock people up with drug and mental health challenges. Supporters say the housing shortage is a real problem.

play

The US is turning sharply on how to deal with homelessness after President Donald Trump ordered a tough new approach to reject the long-standing “Housing First” template.

Trump has been furious in the troublesome camps of homeless people near the White House, as well as in the country’s streets and parks, declaring that organizations receiving federal funds must first focus on locking in people with drug and mental health challenges. Trump has long criticised how the US manages homelessness, claiming that public roads are not safe for either homeless or residents.

“To entrust our cities and citizens to disorder and fear is a lack of compassion for the homeless and other citizens,” Trump said in his July 24 order. “The federal government and states have spent hundreds of billions of dollars on failed programs dealing with homelessness, not the root cause, and other citizens are vulnerable to public safety threats.”

Longtime social workers, health professionals and mental health service providers say the new approach is likely to exacerbate homelessness across the country, especially as Trump’s orders do not include new funding for mental health or drug treatment.

Furthermore, they say the president appears to misunderstand the basic drivers of homelessness. People can’t afford a home.

The president’s order calls for more “unwilling commitments.” This is the process in which mental health workers can force people to detain against their will and restrain their medication. Research shows that the first model of housing is significantly cheaper and more effective than involuntary detention.

“No one wants anyone sleeping outside, but if you don’t want to sleep outside, you should be vehemently opposed to this effort,” said Dr. Margot Kuchell, a doctor at the University of California, San Francisco General Hospital and a doctor at the Trauma Center, who studies people. “Americans want no homelessness, and this is literally the formula for making homelessness worse.”

“There’s a tent outside the White House. You can’t have it.”

Supporters of Trump’s approach, strengthened by a recent Supreme Court ruling, say it’s a time when police officers reached to violently arrest people for drug possession, reducing the risk of human waste and fire hazards posed by the president.

Last year, an annual national review found that around 770,000 people experienced homelessness in one night in January. Those numbers include people living in hotels and shelters as well as 5,200 individuals still evacuated by the 2023 Maui wildfires.

Trump issued an order to visit the golf club before flying to Scotland, and appeared particularly concerned about the camp near the White House. But it reflects his longstanding dissatisfaction with the US homelessness.

During his first administration, Trump urged police to be “stricken” in camps, and his new executive order also ordered authorities to expand unwilling detention and withdraw funds from communities that were not complying with his approach.

“The leaders came to see me, they got trade deals of billions, even trillions, and they came, they had tents outside the White House. You can’t have it,” Trump said.

Nationally, many housing and homeless service providers are moving away from everyday unwilling commitments, not just because they are expensive, but because their practices are considered dehumanised.

“The intent here in New York is not to let anyone be warehoused, and should never be,” said Patrick Wiles, director of the Government Law Center at Albany Law School and former deputy director of welfare and mental health. “The goal is to help them get better and, in almost every case, help them live amongst their siblings in society.”

Like other experts, Wildes said the first model of housing Trump targeted is not perfect, but represents the best and most effective way to stabilize people.

“It has proven many times that when it comes to supporting people suffering from serious mental health and substance use disorders, having a roof over your head is significantly more likely to return to your feet,” he said.

“We don’t have the funds or mechanisms to make this executive order come true.”

Jesse Rabinowitz, a spokesman and social worker for the National Center for Homeless Law, said Trump’s focus on camp reflects the president’s own background as a wealthy developer who doesn’t support government-supported affordable housing.

“This is about treating it like a crime because you’re sick and poor,” Rabinowitz said.

The executive order also requires the collection of important new data on those receiving services, allowing the government to track who has received help and where.

Trump criticizes the amount spent on providing shelter to homeless people, but advocates say taxpayers have never provided enough to solve the problems caused by high rent costs, stagnant pay for low-wage workers, and the lack of affordable counseling and drug treatment for those without jobs.

In Colorado, a study of people served by WellPower, the state’s largest community-based mental health provider, found that costs such as prison and police hours can save more than $3,700 per person, taxpayers. The study found that 77% of people given a home were first left in that home three years later.

Wellpower’s vice president of housing and resources Heidi Eastman said supporters are still trying to understand the full impact of Trump’s order, but it’s not clear how fast the change will be.

Longtime clinical social worker Eastman said: “It’s going to put a lot of strain on providers. It’s going to overload the system and require more expensive services for those who don’t need inpatient hospitalization.”

Kamala Harris leaves open doors for the 2028 presidential election

“At this point, my leadership and public services are not in the elected office,” she said. He explained that he has no intention of participating in the California governor race in 2026.

play

WASHINGTON – Former Vice President Kamala Harris will not run for governor of California in 2026, but has not ruled out another bid for the White House.

The two-time Democratic presidential candidate, who suddenly took over as a party candidate in the 2024 general election, said in a surprising announcement on July 30 that he would not compete in the governor’s race next year.

Harris, who currently lives in Southern California with her husband Doug Emov, had not said whether she had decided to run for president in 2028.

“At this point, my leadership and public services are not in the elected office,” she said. “I look forward to going back and listening to the American people, electing Democrats from across the country who are fearlessly fighting, and sharing details about my plans for the next few months.”

A source familiar with her ideas said Harris, 60, did not pass the governor’s campaign to clear his path to running for president in 2028.

However, the person noted that Harris also did not close the door when he ran for the president. And it would have been politically impossible to find both offices she was elected.

California’s next governor will take over at the beginning of 2027. If Harris competes again, it’s about the same as Harris needs to prepare for his presidential bid.

Another factor: Harris is currently writing a book. The two, who know her plans, are expected to go on tour.

“She can do whatever she wants to do, but she doesn’t owe anything to us. And she hopes she’ll spend time with her kids and Dougie, and she’ll probably tell her. I’m ready to read,” said longtime Harris Ally Bakari Sellers. “She’s a talent, and 2028 could be that, or 2032. Whatever she decides. She’s young.”

The announcement adds additional wrinkles to the decision-making process of Democrats with national ambitions forced to take the backseat to Harris last year when former President Joe Biden quit his reelection campaign and approved his seating vice president as his replacement.

Harris lost to President Donald Trump in a landslide. She characterized the trail as a serious threat to democracy, facing robust evidence that voters were primarily concerned about inflation and the economy.

She also received criticism in a campaign that was abbreviated for refusing to distance herself from Biden.

In her California governor’s statement on race, Harris said the country is in a “hot moment of crisis” as the country’s politics, government and systems frequently fail the American people.

“We need to look ahead and be willing to pursue change through new ways and fresh thinking. We commit to the same values and principles, but not tied to the same playbook,” Harris said.

“She still managed to drop the hammer.”

The announcement surprised even some of her nearest political allies.

“She was good at it, so I was hoping for the governor’s announcement. She still wanted to go back to that Flya,” said the seller, co-chairing Harris’ first presidential election.

Harris’ allies said they didn’t know how Harris would come down in the 2028 presidential bid, but they said they were happy to see her commitment to continuing to act politically.

“I think we’re all waiting with breath to see what her next step is,” said former Biden and Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez.

Chavez Rodriguez works for Harris in the Senate office and bid for the 2020 presidential nomination before joining Biden’s team. She worked as a senior aide at the White House and ran his reelection campaign.

She said she believes Harris is “focused on figuring out what can be done at this point.”

Glinda Kerr, president of Hightie Heights, who works to expand the political power of black women and helps Harris’s 2020 presidential bid, said her campaign has run other women.

“I told Team Kamala Harris what she decided to do.” Harris said he could lead outside from having an elected office.

Jaime Harrison, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said in 2026 he wanted to see the Democratic Harris campaign, particularly in the South.

He encouraged his party to overturn the narrow Republican majority in the US home and Senate and focus on getting governors.

“It’s good that she’s there. When she’s around the country, she decides what she wants to do around 2028. But we can’t think of 2028 until we reach 2026.”

The answer is simple as what that means for all candidates, including former Transport Secretary Pete Battigieg, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, the seller said.

“There’s nothing, because if she wanted to run for president, she could still drop a hammer on them all,” Harris Alley said. “If she decides, she’ll beat them all.”

Two or more passengers who were taken to hospital after turbulence make a delta flight and make an emergency landing

0

“Serious turbulence” was taken to hospital Wednesday after “serious turbulence” made an emergency landing of a plane traveling from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam in Minneapolis, with 25 people taking flights on the Delta line to hospital Wednesday, the airline said in a statement.

Delta said Flight DL56 had safely landed at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport and met with the medical team upon arrival.

The 25 on-boards were taken to community hospitals “for assessment and care,” Delta said in a statement.

The plane landed around 7:25pm local time, an airport spokesperson told CNN, confirming that the flight had been reused, “due to reports of turbulence during the flight that caused injuries on the plane.”

Minneapolis’ Holy Paul Airport Fire Station and paramedics met the plane at the gate and “provided the first medical treatment to passengers in need,” an airport spokesman said.

“We appreciate the support of all the emergency responders involved,” Delta said.

According to data from flight tracking site Flightradar24, the flight climbed over 1,000 feet in less than 30 seconds about 40 minutes after departure. It then descended about 1,350 feet over the next 30 seconds, data shows.

Shortly thereafter, the plane changed course north in the direction of Minneapolis, where it safely landed around an hour and a half, data from Flightradar24 shows.

CNN has contacted Delta and the Federal Aviation Administration for more information.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Gen Z is entrepreneurial and deals with the tough job market

0

play

The 2025 class entered the tough job market this summer, but some members of Generation Z have adapted.

For some young Americans, the majority are entrepreneurial oriented and consider the traditional 9-to-5 schedule to be “outdated,” but unconventional jobs are the solution to ghostly employed people. Some hope to pick up multiple jobs and record them daily in Tiktok, and further monetize their routines. Others turn to platforms that help you get gig jobs like Thumbtack, Fiverr, or TaskRabbit.

“I applied to literally prefer 85 real 9-5s in all kinds of industries,” said Nola Rodgers, 22.

According to Christopher Ager, Chief Commercial Officer of TaskRabbit, the platform saw a 25% increase in sign-ups in July. While some users see these platforms as a way to get extra cash over the weekend, Rogers and others use it as a launch pad for entrepreneurship and escape the 9-on-5 rat race.

“Young adults are rewriting work rules and embracing side jobs as a sustainable and powerful alternative,” Ager told USA Today.

How bad is the job market?

Earlier this year, one in five experts who were looking for jobs in 2024 were still searching, and the market was so bad they didn’t plan on finding one in 2025.

Not everyone has the luxury of staying, especially if they’ve never worked full-time in the first place. Nearly two-thirds of Gen Z Z Z are likely to search for new jobs in 2025, according to a bank job seeker survey.

The Labor Bureau’s April employment report shows that 1.7 million Americans have lost their jobs for over six months, the longest in more than two years. Employers added 147,000 jobs, which led to unexpected employment in June, but only 74,000 people added to the private sector. State and local government employment accounted for much of the rest.

General Z’s Entrepreneur’s Thoughts

Rogers isn’t very interested in who hires.

She joined TaskRabbit in 2019 and earned $180,000 after starting furniture assembly, TV installation and organizing people’s homes. In 2022, she launched her own website offering similar services.

This year, she said she would bring home between $3,000 and $3,500, and about $2,000 for small businesses each month before taxes.

Without a college degree, student loan or boss, Rogers doesn’t regret going on an unconventional path compared to his peers.

“I’ve been in a workforce of four and a half years than them. They’ve been in college and already have an established business, so now I’m trying to find a job,” Rogers said. “So I’d say it worked.”

In the next five years, Rogers hopes to start making custom furniture to expand his business. And she’s not alone. A 2020 WP Engine survey found that 62% of Gen Z have plans to start or start their own business.

“I don’t want anyone to tell me how to do my job.”

Kevin Johnson, 24, is among them. Like Rogers, he started TaskRabbit in 2019, primarily helping people move. Today, he said he would make between $2,500 and $4,000 a month before tax.

It was enough for him to buy a pickup truck in cash. After finishing his associate degree, he has two goals in mind: saving for a down payment at home and opening his own car store.

“I don’t think we need a steady 9-5,” Johnson said.

Class of 2025 agrees. The Monster’s Graduate Report, released earlier this year, shows that 67% believe the 9-to-5 schedule is outdated, while 64% believe the five-day labor week is outdated. More than half of them work full-time in the office and also state that the concept of having to move to work is outdated.

Johnson likes to work for himself, saying, “I don’t want anyone to teach me how to do my job.”

Before she was a top DC prosecutor, Janine Piro pushed the election

0

Piro’s statement on Fox News about the 2020 election was heavily featured in a lawsuit against the Dominion Voting System network.

play

Top federal prosecutors in Washington, DC, used her Fox News Show to question the legitimacy of the 2020 election, becoming extremely open, and the network cancelled one of the episodes out of fear of what she said.

Janine Piro, who hosted “Judg Johnny’s Justice” for 11 years, was one of eight prominent personalities on the network named in the defamation lawsuit brought by the Dominion voting system, which ended with a $787.5 million settlement. Many of Piro’s comments advanced the false theory that machines created by Dominion are being used to overturn Trump-for-Biden’s votes.

A 2022 report from conservative legal experts found that Trump’s allies were not providing evidence of widespread election fraud, and the judges dumped virtually all of Trump’s cases based on the lack of evidence.

Since May, she was a US lawyer representing Washington, DC, after President Donald Trump slammed her for a powerful post. The Republican-led Senate Judiciary Committee voted along the party’s line to advance the appointment of a permanent appointment on July 17th, and the Senate was able to confirm her immediately this week.

The US lawyer’s job generally does not involve election issues, but he led the prosecution of Trump supporters who attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.

Democrats and other critics say she is unable to qualify for the position because of records that she supported a conspiracy theory that shook Pira’s support.

“I have serious concern for someone who was a supporter of such voices in 2020 for these completely false election theories, who took over the office that was primarily responsible for prosecuting the perpetrators of violent attacks against the Capitol,” said Jonathan Diaz, Voting Advocacy Director for the left and right Campaign Law Center.

White House spokesman Harrison Fields defended Piro’s qualification. The Department of Justice did not respond to requests for comment, nor did the District of Columbia US law firm.

“A highly respected and skilled lawyer and judge, Judge Janine is dedicated to President Trump’s agenda to restore security and justice in our country’s capital,” Fields said in a statement. “A baseless, last-minute character assassination attempt is desperate and undermines the safety of DC residents and tourists who benefit from her quick confirmation.”

Here’s what you need to know about Pirro and her record of promoting unfounded accusations of voting fraud:

Pilro’s career as a judge, district attorney

Pillo had a long career as a prosecutor in Westchester County, New York, before becoming a part of Trump’s inner circle. She worked as a subsidy district attorney for 15 years before being elected judge at Westchester County Courthouse. She later spent 12 years as an elected Westchester district attorney.

She was the first female president of the New York District Attorneys Association, and according to the Department of Justice Bio, she started the first domestic violence unit at the prosecutor’s office in the country.

For nearly 20 years, Pira has been known to Americans for her television personality, with her lawyer punch and the dullness of a New Yorker. She hosted “Just Just Jeanine” on Fox News and later joined the network’s roundtable program, “The Five.”

The DC office of U.S. Attorneys also serves as the local prosecutor for the district, so Piro is leaning towards local prosecutor records, highlighting how he will help victims in the community.

“There’s no more tolerance of hatred,” Pillo said after swearing at the White House. “There is no more mercy for criminals. Violence will be dealt directly with proper punishment, and this city will become a glittering city on the American hills where President Trump has promised to be great again and again safe.”

Sen. Alex Padilla, a Democrat from California, said just before he voted against confirming that the experience wasn’t enough. Padilla pointed out that she had not filed a lawsuit in more than 20 years, has not been approved by DC Barr, and that she had never practiced in federal court before Trump appointed her.

“These are serious law enforcement jobs,” Padilla said, as a US lawyer. “They are not the kind of patronage that they are given to unqualified friends and allies as they appreciate their loyalty.”

Trump has appointed many other Fox News hosts to his administration. Most notably, Pete Hegzes is to run the Department of Defense and Mike Huckabee to become Israel’s ambassador. Some of his judicial appointments have been criticized for their perceived lack of experience. Trump also serves as a top position in the Justice Department along with his former personal attorney, causing fear among Trump critics that lawyers can place loyalty to Trump in neutrally enforce the law.

“She may be on Fox News, but she is not in the role of federal law enforcement,” Padilla said of Pira.

“Reckless Mania”

Piro is one of the most outspoken critics of the 2020 election, and documents from the Dominion lawsuit show that her skepticism began more than a month before Trump was defeated.

When an employee at Fox News asked him whether he would accept the election results on September 27, 2020, the lawsuit says she answered.

The Dominion lawsuit was settled shortly before the trial was debated, with Fox News agreeing to pay the company $787.5 million.

A Fox News spokesperson in a statement said the network acknowledged that the court’s ruling was false that some control statements were false, and that the settlement reflected the network’s commitment to high journalistic standards.

By November 7, 2020, on Saturday after the presidential election, executives cancelled her show that day, saying they were “worried about her conspiracy.” A few days later, the Fox producers forwarded it to others calling it “reckless maniacs” saying that the show should include a statement from Dominion.

Pillo cited Hugo Chavez Conspiracy Theory

On November 14, 2020, the day of the upcoming show, the lawsuit states that Fox News producers received information from the network’s internal investigators exposing conspiracy theories about Dominion Machines. The lawsuit states that Pillo “aired a general denial of Dominion for 15 seconds.”

That night she hosted Sidney Powell, another Trump lawyer who actively challenged the legitimacy of the 2020 election results. Before introducing Powell to discuss “what he unearthed in the creation of Dominion,” Pillo said:

Pillo told Powell that “we might get to the bottom of what the Dominion is, who started Dominion, and how it can be operated if it’s operated at all.”

Powell suggested that the Dominion Machine was originally designed to change the votes of Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, and suggested that the military intelligence agency should investigate the issue.

Pillo agreed to the investigation.

“Yes, and that – hopefully, the Ministry of Justice, but someone I already know,” Piro replied. “Sydney Powell, please do your best on your mission.”

On November 21, 2020, during a segment she calls the opening statement, Piro explained the case where Trump’s lawyers were laid out.

Democrats opposed her nomination

The Senate Judiciary Committee did not hold a confirmation hearing on Pilro’s appointment, but Republicans on the committee voted to advance her appointment on July 17th. Democrats criticized Piro minutes before the vote.

Maisie Hirono, a Democrat from Hawaii, said: “Like all Trump’s candidates, she has shown unwavering loyalty to him, and if confirmed, can be expected to misuse the US lawyer’s office to chase President Trump’s political opponents.”

Sen. Dick Durbin, a Democrat from Illinois, said when she met Pillo personally, she refused to answer whether it was appropriate to terminate the prosecutors at the U.S. Lawyer’s Office for the January 6 prosecution.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa who chairs the committee, entered recommendations into records from the National Brothers Police Order, which he cited as Pillo as “widely praised for his work prosecuting domestic abusers, sexual abusers, stems and rapists.”

4,000 years ago teeth reveal the earliest use of this psychoactive substance

0

For the first time, archaeologists have used advanced science and technology on 4,000-year-old dental plaques to see traces of beta biting in ancient Thai communities.

Bellfish nuts are usually bitten as a “quiz.” This is a mixture of sliming lime and ground bellfish nuts, containing psychoactive compounds that increase energy, vigilance, euphoria and relaxation.

Stimulants that can leave red, brown or black stains on teeth are considered to be the most commonly used psychoactive substance in the world, with hundreds of millions of users worldwide after caffeine, alcohol and nicotine.

In the past, kinmatz has been identified at archaeological sites via plant fragments or stained teeth, providing circumstantial evidence that its use dates back at least 8,000 years ago.

However, using advanced technology, an international team of researchers has identified beard bites in individuals who have no dental discoloration.

The study, published Thursday in the Environmental Archaeology Frontier, provides the earliest direct biochemical proof in Southeast Asia, preceded at least 1,000 years of previous evidence, said Piyawit Moonkam, an archaeologist at Chiang Mai University in Thailand.

The discovery of “invisible” traces of beard nut chewing on molars is that, due to some prehistoric practices, “the visible evidence that we have may not tell us the entire story,” Mooncam said.

Research co-author Charmsirin Devanwaropakorn extracts dental calculus in the field of Nong Ratchawat, Thailand.
Researchers scraped small pieces of plaque from teeth and dental artifacts at Neolithic sites.

Very sensitive and minimally invasive, the method only requires small samples of plaque and offers a “attractive” way to find more clues about the past, said Thanik Lertcharnrit, an associate professor at Shilpakorn University in Bangkok, Thailand and an expert on Southeast Asian archaeology, who is not involved in the study.

“From a methodological perspective, few, if any, archaeologists use such scientific methods of residual analysis to infer the lives, traditions and cultures of people (prehistoric periods),” says Lertcharnrit.

“This paper represents a pioneer. It is cutting edge in terms of archaeological research in mainland South Asia, particularly Thailand.”

Researchers began collecting ancient dental plaques known as calculus from Nong Rachawat, a Neolithic burial site in central Thailand.

This method, called liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy (LC-MS), extracts, separates and identifies chemicals by measuring whether molecules are compared to charge.

However, before testing the ancient samples, the team needed control samples. The results can be compared to show how traces of the kinmatz liquid look.

Materials for Thai ethnic botanical gardens.

“We tried to mimic the culture of chewing,” Moonkham said, adding to the core components of dried kinna nuts, red limestone paste and Piper’s bean leaves, as well as some of the control samples contained catetchu bark and tobacco, and the ingredients grounded together with human saliva.

The latest control samples were first tested to validate the methods before analyzing the dental samples.

They detected three samples from one individual known as “burial 11,” perhaps a 25-year-old woman’s trace plant alkaloids (including the major psychoactive compounds of Betel Nut, Arecoline and Arecaidine.

Researchers say the advantage of this technique is that it does not destroy the original sample and leaves the rest intact for future research.

“No one has done this before.”

LC-MS is currently used in a variety of fields, including pharmaceuticals, food safety and environmental testing.

However, its previous use in archaeology has been limited, said Dr. Meland Vrok, a biofactorologist and lecturer in anatomy and physiology at Charles Sturt University in Australia.

“Many of the work done using this (method) is looking for proteins in dental calculus for dietary reasons. So, using it to pick up these compounds that are trapped in dental plaques, it’s really innovative.

There’s a reason that’s not common. This method requires expensive machines such as orbits, one of the most advanced mass spectrometers on the market, identifying molecules by measuring the mass-to-charge ratio that many researchers cannot access.

“It’s starting to be used more routinely by several larger labs like Harvard and Max Planck, which makes this research even more surprising. “To see this research come from within the region is actually what excites me the most.”

The team in this paper included researchers from eight institutions on three continents and chemical residue analysis was conducted at Washington State University, where Mooncam received his PhD.

The control samples from the studies that created the “standard” to test are another novelty, and future studies can further improve this by considering how the compounds deteriorate over thousands of years, Vlok said.

“This is a way that you can definitely see it being used very frequently in the area from now on,” she added.

Beta nuts have long been linked to hospitality and religious rituals, but much of recent research has focused on classification as a carcinogen and the correlation between beta use and oral cancer.

“Bean nut chewing means a lot to people’s health,” says Vlok. “It affects millions of people in the tropical Asia-Pacific today, but I really don’t know how long people are doing this.”

A better understanding of where tradition comes from and how and why people use it will help address some of these concerns, she added.

Chewing quids can cause reddish brown staining on teeth, like this guy painted on the Solomon Islands.

In Thailand, Mooncam said that this practice has been strongly discouraged by the government since the 1940s and is still popular in rural areas, but is now rare in cities and younger generations.

He recognizes the potential health risks, but Mooncam believes this practice is overly “devilized” and hopes that such research will demonstrate the long history of beard nuts in Thailand and their importance in society. He also has a personal attachment to practice. He has memories of his grandparents’ childhood, but usually chews his grandparents’ quiz while smacking him with friends or relaxing after a family meal.

“I asked my grandmother once, ‘Why do you bite it?’ And she replied, as it helps me to clean my teeth and relax,” Mooncam recalled. “When she bit it, she tended to share with friends, family, or colleagues. I think that’s important in the way that creates social bonds.”

Archaeologists are still excavating fragments of the ancient community in Nong Rachawat, Thailand.

Researchers are still investigating possible reasons why the individuals they investigated have no tooth stains. This speculates that it could have been rotten for different chewing methods, cleaning habits, or thousands of years.

Further research may help narrow down your possibilities. The team will analyze more individuals on the non-rachawat site, where 150 individuals can test signs of Kinmatz’s use, as they seek to dig deeper into the social, religious and medical role of Kinmatz in ancient society in future projects.

This technique can also be applied to a wide range of plant and food residues, opening up a new pathway to understanding ancient practices.

“I think people tend to ignore the social and cultural aspects of plants,” Mooncam said. “It’s important to understand the overall perspective.”

Shane, when Trump closes major trade loopholes, Tim’s order was affected

President Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday, July 30th, ending a loophole in the De Minimis trade that allows low-value goods to be shipped to US tax-free.

Packages sent to the US under $800, sent outside the international postal network, have now faced “all applicable obligations,” according to the White House. Orders will be effective on August 29th.

Shein and Temu are two popular fashion brands that attract American shoppers and often seek to order bulk orders at a heavily discounted cost, often with free shipping. With the end of the trade loophole, US consumers are looking to increase prices, including the fast fashion orders they once had.

Here’s what shoppers need to know about the end of a trade loophole:

What is De Minimis and why does it affect Shein and Temu?

Shein and Temu sell a variety of products, including clothing, furniture and more, which arrive quickly and cheaply.

More than half of all packages, including the De Minimis exemption, come from China, and more than 30% of all daily packages shipped under De Minimis are from Temu and Shein, Reuters reported in February.

The provisions of the 1930 Customs Act allow the De Minimis exemption, which is the main route for e-commerce imports from China, according to a parliamentary report from 2018 to 2023.

Eliminating China’s loopholes would have “a widespread negative impact on Americans, particularly poor consumers, especially poor consumers,” according to the Cato Institute.

Republican Sen. Jim Banks of Indiana welcomed the executive order, saying, “For too long, countries like China have been flooding the market with tax-free, cheap imports.”

State police said on July 30 that the suspect was arrested in the murder of an Arkansas couple who was hiking with two small children in Devilsden State Park over the weekend.

James Andrew McGan, 28, was arrested at 4:57pm local time on July 30 at 4:57pm local time, state police said in a news release. He was charged with two counts of capital murder.

“While last weekend’s crimes won’t heal any major harm to the Brink family, this announcement is a sense of comfort and security for our state,” Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. “There’s no mistake. We don’t tolerate violent crimes in Arkansas. If you target innocent people, law enforcement will corner you and lead you to justice.”

The suspect’s arrest comes after a few days of manhunts when Arkansas State Police released a compound sketch of the man on July 28th. State police previously said the suspect was likely injured in the attack, but did not specify the severity or type of injury.

According to state police, Clinton David Brink, 43, and his wife, Kristan Amanda Brink, were fatally attacked on July 26 while hiking with their two daughters in Devilsden State Park. The 7- and 9-year-olds were not injured and are safe with their families, police said.

The family recently moved from another state to the area.

Flights at UK airports face major technical issues

0

London

Outbound flights from UK airports were disrupted by technical issues with air traffic control on Wednesday, according to several airports.

UK Airports – Posted on X, where flights from transport hubs have been suspended, including Edinburgh Airport in Scotland, Newcastle Airport in North England, and Gatwick Airport in London. More airports posted posts saying flights were delayed.

According to London’s Gatwick Airport, inbound flights were still able to land. Surveillance site Flightradar24 indicated that at one point it had not taken off from the UK airport, but the plane was later seen departing from several hubs.

The flight was affected after the air traffic control centre, which controls 200,000 square miles of airspace, experienced “technical issues,” the country’s National Air Traffic Service (NAT) said in a statement. The engineers later added that they were able to restore the affected systems quickly.

“We are working closely with our airline and airport customers to minimize disruptions and we are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused,” Natt said.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) posted to X to remind passengers of their rights if flights are delayed or cancelled.

Meanwhile, budget airline Ryanair appears to be taking a swipe at NATS CEO, giving him a name while responding to news stories about delays.

Wednesday wasn’t the first time that UK airspace has been affected by delays this year.

Back in March, more than 1,300 flights around the world were affected after a fire broke out at an electrical engine near London’s Heathrow Airport, the country’s largest travel hub.

Heathrow was closed for 18 hours, and the airline cost tens of millions of pounds and delves into thousands of passengers.
