State police said on July 30 that the suspect was arrested in the murder of an Arkansas couple who was hiking with two small children in Devilsden State Park over the weekend.

James Andrew McGan, 28, was arrested at 4:57pm local time on July 30 at 4:57pm local time, state police said in a news release. He was charged with two counts of capital murder.

“While last weekend’s crimes won’t heal any major harm to the Brink family, this announcement is a sense of comfort and security for our state,” Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. “There’s no mistake. We don’t tolerate violent crimes in Arkansas. If you target innocent people, law enforcement will corner you and lead you to justice.”

The suspect’s arrest comes after a few days of manhunts when Arkansas State Police released a compound sketch of the man on July 28th. State police previously said the suspect was likely injured in the attack, but did not specify the severity or type of injury.

According to state police, Clinton David Brink, 43, and his wife, Kristan Amanda Brink, were fatally attacked on July 26 while hiking with their two daughters in Devilsden State Park. The 7- and 9-year-olds were not injured and are safe with their families, police said.

The family recently moved from another state to the area.
