  • The 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid is a bigger take on the popular Toyota SUV.
  • The Toyota medium sized models are efficient, affordable and spacious.
  • The Grand Highlander Hybrid’s unique powertrain and dimensions make it a unique model.

Do we live in the golden age of three rows of SUVs?

Brands such as Toyota, Kia, Jeep and Hyundai are creating competitive 3-row SUV models. Recent advances in hybrid tech have made these SUVs even more attractive as they can transport a large number of passengers without burning as much fuel as non-hybrid models.

Many three-row SUVs have a strong value proposition, but one Japanese model stands out from the pack: the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid. USA Today has featured this three-row hybrid SUV in its tests to see if it is worth it in the real world, as it is on paper.

The fuel economy of the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid is great for that segment

It is no secret that Japanese automaker Toyota has one of the best hybrid portfolios on the market. The brand has come a long way from the Toyota Prius, the first mass-produced hybrid.

Today, Toyota produces attractive hybrids, trucks and SUVs, using technology to provide output boosts and saves fuel to American drivers. The Grand Highlander Hybrid is no exception, bringing Toyota Hybrid’s best hybrid technology to a nameplate that is practical for large groups of passengers.

The base model, Grand Highlander Hybrid LE, earns an estimated 34 miles per gallon total (standard all-wheel drive). This is amazing for such a large all-wheel drive SUV. For context, the two-row Honda Passport medium SUV achieves just 21 miles per gallon combined despite its low seating capacity.

USA Today tested the Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Platinum Trim. The standard playback brakes on the 3-row SUV continued to add miles to the total range on long road trips under test. One of the biggest problems with driving a large vehicle (with many seats) is the cost of fuel. The Grand Highlander Hybrid Max is reasonably priced to refuel and tasted gas like fine wine on the highway.

Toyota’s medium-sized three-row hybrid SUV won’t break the bank

Another problem many American car buyers have with larger SUV models is pricing.

Inflation and rising prices for new cars exacerbate this problem for many brands producing three-row SUVs. The Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid offers the practicality of a three-row SUV with a unique hybrid powertrain setup without breaking the bank.

The 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid starts at $44,210 with the base model hybrid LE trim. According to Cox Automotive from Automotive Research Company, the average new vehicle price in June was $51,124. American car buyers can get the base model Grand Highlander Hybrid LE or Hybrid XLE ($45,380).

Furthermore, a study by ISEeCars.com found that the Highlander Hybrid is one of the longest-lasting cars. If the same applies to a Highlander Hybrid-based Grand Highlander Hybrid, a medium-sized three-row SUV has a strong long-term value proposition.

2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid: Lots of cabins, cargo space

Toyota designed the second and third seat rows of the Grand Highlander Hybrid to be easily manipulated. This is important for passenger comfort. The second row of seats can be slid forward and bend, making it easy to jump into the rear row of seats. The third row of seats can be folded completely for maximum cargo space. So, whether you need the most seating space possible or the possible cargo space, you can easily adjust it.

The Grand Highlander Hybrid provides a comfortable Seven seat. Drivers can choose to add a second row bench seat with a total seating capacity of 8, leaving 20.6 cubic feet of cargo space. There is 57.9 cubic feet of cargo space with folded rear seats. During testing, the Grand Highlander Hybrid cargo area had four large beach chairs, a beach umbrella, a cooler and multiple backpacks.

The Grand Highlander Hybrid really carves its own lanes for fuel economy, affordability and size. This is one of the most attractive new SUV deals on the market for families.

Trump says he “didn’t know” why Epstein poached the Mar-Arago workers

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump says he had no idea why at the time, financial operator and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, poached workers from his spa at Mar Lago Resort.

“No, I didn’t know,” Trump told reporters on July 31 when asked if he knew why Epstein had taken workers over 20 years ago. “If he’s taking someone from Mar-a-Lago, if he’s hiring, what he’s doing – I didn’t like it, and we abandoned him.”

Earlier this week, Trump said he had “stole people who worked for me” about his relationship with Trump’s longtime friend Epstein in the 1990s and early 2000s.

He later confirmed on July 29th that poached workers included Virginia Giuffle, an outspoken Epstein victim who said that Epstein’s procurement and ex-girlfriend Githrane Maxwell had hired her for the circle of 16-year-old Mar Lago locker room assistant. Giuffre died of suicide in April this year.

In a July 30 statement, Giuffre’s family demanded answers as to why Trump said Epstein “stole” Juful from his Marlago spa. The family also sought Maxwell to stay in prison as her lawyers are seeking pardon for Trump.

“He asks if he is aware of Jeffrey’s criminal behavior, especially given the statement that two years later, his best friend, Jeffrey, was given to USA Today that he “likes the young woman.” “We and the public are looking for answers. Survivors deserve this.”

The family’s statement comes as Trump faced a week-long backlash over his administration’s refusal to release all documents in a government investigation of Epstein, who died of suicide in a federal prison in 2019.

Trump did not say when the split with Epstein began. His explanation contradicts a recent statement from the White House claiming that Trump was “clipped out of his club because he was creeped.”

Epstein was first charged in 2006 with soliciting a Florida prostitution charge. Two years later, Florida prosecutors agreed to a controversial plea deal with Epstein in 2008. Epstein was arrested again in 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges a month before his death.

The suspect arrested for the murder of an Arkansas couple in Devilsden State Park over the weekend was hired to teach in an Arkansas school district, school officials said.

According to Arkansas State Police, 28-year-old Andrew James McGann was arrested on July 30 in the murder of Clinton David Brink, 43. He was charged with two counts of capital murder.

McGann was hired as a teacher to begin employment at Springdale public schools between 2025 and 2026, Principal Jared Cleveland said in a statement provided to USA Today.

“This individual has not started hiring in the district, nor has he ever had any contact with Springdale students or the families we serve,” Cleveland said. The district did not provide additional information regarding McGann’s employment, citing an ongoing investigation.

“Our entire team extends our deepest pathetic dol to brinkling families. Their children are especially in our thoughts and prayers.”

McGann was approved as an Arkansas early, elementary and middle school educator since October 2024, according to records from the Arkansas Department of Education. His license expires in December 2028.

Prior to his employment at Springdale public schools, McGann was employed at Broken Arrow Public Schools in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Tara Thompson, Chief Communications Officer at Broken Arrow Public Schools, told USA Today that McGann is a fifth grade teacher at Spring Creek Elementary School for the 2023-2024 academic year, leaving his own agreement to work in another state.

“Like all employees employed in the district, he was subjected to legally necessary background checks before being hired and passed,” Thompson said. “Our thoughts and prayers are directed at families affected by this unimaginable act of violence.”

According to the Texas Department of Education, Oklahoma Department of Education Education Education records, he was an early primary school educator effective from May 2022 to June 2027, and was a Texas primary and secondary school educator from July 2023 to August 2028.

What happened in the murder?

Arkansas State Police said the brink was fatally attacked while hiking in Devilsden State Park with their two daughters, ages 7 and 9. The girls are not injured and are safe with their family.

The brink recently moved from another state to Arkansas.

McGann’s first court apella took place on Friday, August 1st, the Washington County Prosecutor’s office told USA Today.

A new species of giant stick insects found in Australia

0

Sydney
Reuters

In Australia’s remote rainforest, home to deadly snakes, spiders and creepy crawls, scientists have discovered a new species of stick insect that they think is the heaviest in the country.

The new species weighs 44 grams (1.55 ounces), roughly the same as a golf ball, and is 40 cm (15.75 inches).

Angus Emmott of James Cook University helped identify new Acrophila Alta species, but said the creature’s larger size could be an evolutionary response to its cool, moist habitat.

“Their weight is likely to help them survive the cold, which is why they have evolved into this big insect for over millions of years,” he was quoted as saying in a media release.

“From what we know so far, this is Australia’s heaviest insect.”

The insect weighs 44 grams, almost the same as a golf ball.

The new stick insect was found in a canopy in the mountainous, humid tropical region of northern Queensland, northeast of Australia.

The remote habitat was probably also why it remained discovered for so long, Emmott said.

“It is confined to small areas of high-altitude rainforests and exists high in the canopy. So, as long as you don’t beat cyclones and birds to beat the birds, a very small number of people can see them,” he said.

The unique eggs of stick insects also helped scientists identify it as a new species.

“Every species of stick insects have their own unique egg style,” Emott said.

“They all have different surfaces and different textures and pitting corrosion. They can have different shapes. Even those caps are very unique.”

Two specimens have been added to the Queensland Museum collection to support future research.

Trump sends Huckabee’s Huckabee to Gaza amid hunger crisis

0

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump is meeting Gaza on August 1 as he dispatched two White House officials to Gaza to inspect food distribution centers and strengthened global scrutiny about the territorial hunger crisis.

Trump’s Middle Eastern envoy Stephen Witkov and Israeli U.S. ambassadors, Mike Huckabee, said “we will deliver more food and secure plans to meet with local Gazaans and hear in person about this tragic situation,” White House spokesman Caroline Levitt told reporters on July 31.

After their visit, Witkov and Hackabee are expected to meet with Trump and approve a final plan for food and aid distribution in the region amid Israel’s ongoing war with Hamas in Gaza.

Witkov and Hackabee spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the morning of July 31st about providing food and assistance to the region, Leavitt said.

“It’s terrible what’s going on there. It’s terrible. People are very hungry,” Trump told reporters. “You know, the US gave us $60 million for food, which is a shame, because we can’t see the outcome, and in theory we’ve given people that we’re watching it pretty closely.

Alerts issued this week by the integrated food security stage classification increased the likelihood that hunger will be rolled out in Gaza. The United Nations World Food Program says that a third of Gaza’s population does not eat for several days at a time, and one in four people “bear hunger-like conditions.” Hamaslan Health Ministry, the leading source of Gaza’s health data, said more than 100 people have recently died of malnutrition.

Trump was defeated with Netanyahu earlier this week, saying he opposed the Israeli Prime Minister’s claim that there was no starvation among the people of Gaza and urged Israel to feed the enclave more.

When images of debilitating children in Gaza surprised the world, Netanyahu denied Israeli running a hunger campaign, calling such accusations “a bold face lie” and even rejecting that hunger was happening.

Trump also said on July 31 that Witkov would later travel to Russia ahead of the new 10-day deadline set by the president to agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine or to face US tariffs and other penalties. “I’m going to Israel, and he’s going to Russia, whether he believes it or not,” Trump said.

Sydney Sweeney American Eagle Ads’ rage is “Moronic”: White House

play

The White House Communications Director joined the voices of those plagued by rage over the American Eagle ad featuring Sydney Sweeney.

Stephen Chong, a longtime adviser to President Donald Trump and White House communications director, denounced the reaction to the controversial ads on “Cancel Culture Run Amok.”

“This distorted, moronic, dense, liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024,” he wrote on July 29th in response to XNBC Op-Ed. He added that people are “fed up with this,” and that they use blasphemy.

An ad campaign, created in a larger partnership between the “Euphoria” actress and the popular brand, described Sweeney, 27, who appears to have “Good Genes” in her jeans using WordPlay. Critics say the jeans campaign will be the dog whi for the glory of eugenics and whiteness.

In one of several videos from the Ad Blitz, Sweeney, dressed in a denim-on-denim outfit, said:

“My jeans are blue,” she says as the camera pans across blue denim and blue eyes.

Texas Republican Ted Cruz took X on July 29th and blasted the left to criticize the ad.

“Wow. Now there’s a crazy leftist coming out against a beautiful woman. That’s going to work…” he wrote.

Other notable numbers adding two cents include “Bachelor’s Degree” star Gabby Windy and even Doja cat who chuckled ads on Tiktok’s video.

A mental load can wreak havoc in a marriage. Ask this mom.

0

play

Empty dishwasher. That’s why it prompted the wives and mother of four Page Connells to consider divorce.

But it wasn’t just a dishwasher. For working mothers who take the brunt of household chores and carry the mental load, this is never the case.

“I really didn’t trust him anymore,” the 35-year-old Connell told USA Today. “I wasn’t respected. I felt like I resented.”

Connell, who posted about motherhood, marriage and work on social media, has told the story dozens of times. It’s the way she asked her husband to help him around the house more, for a while, and one day he stopped. And the loneliness she experienced.

“It’s always resonating with people,” she said. In March, Massachusetts mom shared the story again in Tiktok, going viral. It has won 1.3 million likes, over 26,000 comments and over 257,000 shares.

Mothers – and several fathers – talk about the mental load of social media. But motherly psychologist and wellness coach Lisa Stephen, who focuses on maternal life, still has no understanding of what mental load is, especially among men. One partner might say to another, “Tell me what to do,” but that means they need to take the time to think about what the person they are asking needs to do and explain it, Stephen said.

A survey of 3,000 US parents published in the Journal of Marriage and Family in 2024 found that moms handled 71% of household tasks, including cleaning, scheduling, childcare and other daily labor. Another 2024 study from the University of Southern California, which surveyed 322 mothers, reported that MOMS was responsible for 73% of cognitive domestic work and 64% of physical domestic work. Taking the trash was only one of 30 tasks that the father would plan and execute more. The study also found that cognitive labor is associated with depression, stress, burnout, overall mental health and relationship function in women.

A 2024 report from Skylight, a smart calendar company, found that mental load is almost equivalent to a full-time job. The company’s survey of more than 2,000 parents found that parents spent more than 30 hours a week planning and coordinating family schedules and home tasks, with 61% of respondents saying that mental load reduced time with their partners.

Connell did not divorce her husband. Instead, she took serious effort in talking to him about her mental load.

Below are five things you need to know about mental stress and how couples can cope.

1. Mental load is more than just a chore

The mental load is home project management, Stephen said. It is a cognitive energy that constantly assesses the needs of a family, and plans to address every core detail – and ensure that everything is complete.

The mental load was never fair in her relationship, Connell said. Before the child was present, her mental load included getting a Mother’s Day card for her parents, a wedding gift for a friend, planning her own wedding, taking her dog to the vet and completing her mortgage paperwork.

After the kids, the list began to include filling out summer camp forms, buying new shorts for kids, cutting nails, getting birthday presents for kids friends, taking them to various activities, filling out school sunscreen forms, and actually sending them sunscreen.

“It’s not about who’s cooking,” Connell said. “It’s also about all the things that make those chores happen, or who think about what makes our lives possible.”

2. That’s a problem decades ago

Society has long placed women in the caregiver role, and men said they are valuable based solely on their position and money they earn, said Emily Claire, Marriage, Family Therapist and Director of Adult Psychotherapy Services at Northwestern University’s Family Research Institute.

“Old habits die violently,” Stephen said. “And the story of women being caretakers is deeply ingrained, and it’s not fair to men, women, or children.”

Young girls are taught early to care for others and “put their needs under others.” But “We don’t teach boys to do that.”

Today, millennials and generations of Z-Daddy are more active parents than their previous fathers. That’s great, Clear said, but that might mean that his father might think they’re more contributing to the family work than they actually are.

Meanwhile, millennials and Gen Z women are professionally conditioned to believe they can get it all at home.

“We have given women the power to enter a man’s space, but not men are power to enter a woman’s space without judgment,” Claire said.

3. Mental load makes it difficult for moms to develop their careers

When Connell and her husband became parents, she said, “it became the default for everything.” When her children got sick, she was the one who took off from work to take care of them. When the pandemic shut down childcare, she was home with her children.

The doctor and school officials called her in contrast to the child. When she goes on a rare work trip, people ask her, “Who has children?”

The mental load made her feel professionally stuck, Connell said. For five years she held a remote, flexible position that was well connected to parenting. However, she was unable to grow in the role and missed out on networking events and development opportunities, allowing her to look after her children.

Even when women work full time and they are the sole producers of the family, Claire said women still do an unbalanced amount of household chores.

4. It’s important to talk to your partner

Klear suggests that couples have a weekly conversation to discuss how to split logistics and mental load. She said, and decided who owns the plan and completion of each item, she said. The mental load may never be evenly divided, but finding a good and fair balance ensures that the household runs as smoothly as possible.

Connell said she and her husband used Eve Rodsky’s “How to Play” to start those conversations. From speaking through these prompts, including listing the daily tasks that each partner normally does, it was clear that she was doing most of the work.

Connell said the key is to frame the issue against mental load as both partners, not as one partner or the other.

5. The mental stress will not go away. It will take some time to fix it.

After the couple got used to having weekly check-in, they said they could last about 15 minutes. After that, couples connect with each other outside of home management, and actually spend quality time together.

The time it takes to find the right balance will vary, Klear said, and frustration is almost guaranteed along the way. She often hears her husband complain that she has completed the task, but is told it is not the “right way.” She also often wants to outsource tasks by men delivering groceries, hiring home vacuums, and finding babysitters. But that doesn’t solve the problem for anyone, she said. Because someone still has to manage those people and services.

Connell said it doesn’t take long for her husband to start completing more daily home tasks. However, it took him 18 months to gain an equitable share of mental load and repair res that had accumulated over the years.

Now she said she has the time and energy to travel for work and go to yoga for herself.

Trump’s White House renovations include the Ballroom, Flagpole and more.

0

play

President Donald Trump’s renovation to the White House is marching.

On Thursday, July 31st, the White House announced plans to begin construction in September with a $200 million ballroom in the eastern part of the mansion.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the new “naturally designed and carefully crafted” 90,000-square-foot ballroom will be a “very necessary and exquisite addition” to host a major event at the White House complex.

The new ballroom, which is expected to be completed before Trump’s term ends in 2029, is one of several changes the president has announced in the building that was centuries old. So far, this is what the Trump administration has announced.

200 million dollar ballroom

The ballroom, scheduled for by 2029, will accommodate 650 people, more than 200 people, than the White House East Room, where the president has historically had a large reception.

Trump frequently complains that the White House doesn’t have a large ballroom suitable for entertainment.

“President Trump and other donors have generously committed to donating the funds needed to build this $200 million structure,” Leavitt said at a July 31 briefing.

New Flag Pole

Back in June, one on the north grass and one on the south grass of the White House, two 88-foot-high flagpole were installed after Trump desperately needed him and he said he would pay for himself.

“How are you guys?” Trump told reporters after the flag reached one of the poles.

“This is a gift from me, something I’ve always missed from this epic place,” Trump said in a social media post. “Hopefully they’ll be on both sides of the White House for years to come!”

Stone rose garden

Another change Trump has begun to implement is the renovation of the iconic White House Rose Garden.

Construction crews broke in the outdoor area in June after Trump ordered major modifications, including Trump replacing grass with gravel.

In a previous interview, the president said he wanted to pave the area for ease of visitors, particularly for heeled footwear.

“What was happening is that there should be an event. Every event you have, it’s wet,” Trump told “Laura Ingraham” in March on Fox News. “It’s wet… And the woman with high heels, it’s just too much.”

Gold, gold, other gold

Perhaps the most visible changes made by the President have tracked his stylistic choices over the years: his preference for money. More than six months after returning to the White House, Trump’s oval office became a golden room.

As USA Today previously reported, a golden applique with fireplaces, golden mirrors, ornate Rococo style 18th and 19th century dessert stands and French vases sitting in the mantle. The wall is a chokka block with a painting of the former president in a former ornate gold frame. The cabinet room is equipped with a new ceiling medallion and a grandfather’s watch.

The golden change in the room was very different from former President Joe Biden’s oval office, with a more sparse golden touch on the wall.

Justin Timberla Clime disease diagnosis revealed

Justin Timberlake is open to “debilitating” medical issues.

The 44 singers revealed he was “battling some health issues” and were diagnosed with Lyme disease.

“If you know someone who is experiencing or has this disease, you know – you know: Living with this can be mercilessly debilitating, both mentally and physically,” he wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday, July 31st.

Timberlake’s diagnosis led him to consider whether to stop the tour, but he said “I decided that the joy of far exceeding the fleeting stress my body feels will bring me.” He added: “I’m so glad that I’ve continued.”

The Grammy Award winners looked back at the end of his forgotten tomorrow’s world tour, which began in 2024, and shared the revelation. He described the tour as “the most fun, emotional, satisfying, physically tough, and sometimes harsh experiences.”

In his post, Timberlake also wrote that he was “a rather private person” and “reluctant to talk about his health issues about “his health issues.” However, he said, “I’m trying to be more transparent about my struggle so that they don’t get misunderstood,” and “I want to do my part in helping others who are experiencing this disease.”

Timberlake recently faced a backlash on social media. Because some fans claimed he was offering sub-performances on stage.

“I can’t stop feeling!” The singer had previously cancelled or postponed several concerts on the tour due to health reasons. In February he said he was going to scrap the show in Columbus, Ohio, and is planning to start, fighting the flu. “Everyone. I’m heartbroken,” he said at the time. Timberlake also postponed a series of concerts in October, explaining, “I didn’t feel good for the last few shows, so it turned out I had bronchitis and laryngitis.”

What is Lyme Disease?

Lyme disease is a “disease caused by borrelia bacteria” that humans usually get from mites bites, according to Mayo Clinic.

“Untreated Lyme disease can cause a wide range of symptoms depending on the stage of the infection,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. “These include fever, rashes, facial paralysis, irregular heartbeats and arthritis.”

Other celebrities previously opened about the fight against Lyme disease include Justin Bieber and Amy Schumer. In 2020, Schumer asked his followers on Instagram. “Will everyone get lime this summer?

Avril Lavigne also revealed to People Magazine in 2015 that she was “bedridden for five months” while fighting Lyme disease. “I felt like I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t move,” she said at the time. “I thought I was dying,” the singer continued, “I was barely able to stand, so I definitely couldn’t take a shower for a week.

Italian farmers who took it to set mountain turnstyles to charge access to Instagram hotspots

If Carlo Zanella, president of the Alto Adige Alpine Club, had his way, travel influencers would be banned from Dolomite.

He denies the latest Italian social media trends. Italian social media trends have attracted hundreds of thousands of tourists into the mountains of northern Italy, with many running across private property to get the perfect shot of it.

In response to the influx, annoyed local farmers founded Turnsteel. Tourists will have to pay 5 euros (nearly $6) to access several “instagrammable” spots, including the Seseda and Dray Zinnen (three peaks) mountain ranges.

Photos showing a line of up to 4,000 people a day have appeared on social media in recent weeks. But rather than stopping people coming, the image acted as a magnet.

“The media has been talking about turnstyle, and everyone is talking about it,” says Zanella. “And then people go where everyone else goes. We are sheep.”

Italian law requires free access to natural parks such as the Alps and Dolomite, but landowners who set the turnstyle say they have not yet received an official pushback from the authorities.

Georg Labanser, a former Italian national team snowboarder who owned the land on the pastures of Seseda, told Laden Language Magazine La usc that he and others had begun to score points across land for tourists.

“So many people go through here every day, everyone goes through our property and leaves garbage behind,” he says. “We were asking for help. We were hoping for a call from the state authorities. But there was nothing. We only read the newspaper statement. Gossip. There was nothing specific. We didn’t receive a warning letter.

Zanella says she avoids the once-loved alpine hiking trails throughout the summer, but she supports landowners charging admission fees to cross the property. He believes the government should pay for the maintenance of the entrance system, analogizing the visitor spending their busy weekends towards Venice, where visitors have to pay 10 Euro admission fees (about $12).

“We’re going to increase the price from 5 euros to 100 euros,” he tells CNN. “And we’re closing the travel influencer account.”

Beyond the public’s nuisance of overcrowding, he fears that social media tourists will put them at risk.

“Once upon a time, people who approached the mountains were ready, dressed for the mountains, came for hiking, especially the Germans who had a map and knew where to go. “Now I’ve seen people go up to Seseda with sun umbrellas and flip-flops because the cable car was closed and they didn’t check the lift schedule.

The local tourism bureau has petitioned authorities to close turnstyle, claiming the issue is exaggerated. Santa Christina’s Tourism Bureau, which oversees parts of the area where Turnstyle was introduced, says it hired four park rangers to keep tourists on the trail, not crossing pastures and not flying drones.

“Things have improved significantly,” said Lucas Demetz, president of the Santa Christina Tourism Office, in a statement shared with CNN. “And even the garbage issue isn’t as serious as people say. It’s been drastically reduced.”

Still, across the Aosta Valley, parking lots pop up and stop people driving down the mountainside, hikers need to go to Monterosa for a paid shuttle bus. In Piedmont’s Piander Repeat Swamp, only 150 cars are allowed to park in the nearest parking lot to discourage visitors. Some areas, including Lake Brides, are currently charging 40 euros for cars to access areas that people are trying to discourage from coming to take photos. Arno Copatcher, governor of South Tyrol, which includes parts of the Dolomite Mountains, is calling on the central government to set restrictions to protect vulnerable alpine ecosystems and discourage locals from renting out their chalets to tourists.

It’s not just the mountain residents who will close out visitors who behave badly by Italians. Nationwide, new ordinances were a hallmark of the summer of 2025.

Wearing swimsuits and bare chesting in some Italian towns attracts some looks. A half nudity can also be fined 500 euros in the name of politeness. The Tuscany Island of Elba and the Ligurian city of Diano Marina have introduced a summer ordinance that prohibits shirtless and swimsuit-only struts on both men and women, anywhere except the beach.

And if your outfit is considered vulgar or “vulgar” in the eyes of the viewer, the authorities can impose a smaller fine starting at 25 euros.

Walking barefoot is prohibited in Livorno. On Sardinian beaches, you have trouble digging holes for an umbrella, smoking or lying on the sand without a mat. The popular LaPerosa Beach area has so far only allowed 1,500 bathers at a time to ban overcrowding.

In San Ferristielseo, a party town south of Rome, having an Apaitivo on the beach is a way of life, with take-out alcohol being prohibited in both towns and beaches. Loud music can only be blared at certain times across the country, and in the southern regions of Puglia, if you play music within 500 meters of the coast, sailors will be fined.

Defective vans “Old Squall” sneakers will be sold out before official release

Squeaky, beautiful sneakers may be a thing of the past.

Sold out within 24 hours, Vans’ new sneakers feature pre-made styles with painted tints, tweed fringe details and a look dirty lace and sole. The warm brown premium old school shoes as souvenirs went live on the VANS website in the second half of July 30th, and by the next day the sneakers had already sold out. The VANS website says as of July 31, 118 people had purchased sneakers.

Originally for $125, limited edition sneakers are now available on eBay for between $500 and $1,600.

Here’s what we know about premium old squall shoes and what fans think about them:

What does the Old Skool 36 “Souvenir” van look like?

The canvas of the low-top skate sneakers are spray-painted with brown leather overlays. The sneakers feature multi-color tweed strip details and van-themed pins on the sides for “bag-like decorations.” The lace is dark, off-white, and the white soles look dirty, but brand new.

The sneakers appear to be inspired by Chanel pavement messenger bags, part of the designer’s graffiti collection, which was first featured in 2014. This messenger bag features muddy brown colouring, multi-faceted tweed details, vintage steel pins and dispinded pins and disping details. The messenger bag version is available on the Sotheby website for $15,150.

He brushed the comparison in a statement to USA Today saying that the shoes are rooted in creative branding.

What are people saying?

On Instagram, some of the comments on the ambiguous Vansagram post promoting the sneaker launch on July 30th criticised the shoe design.

“I want them and want to get references. They have a very good creative direction, but once you step back they do low keys that look like barf,” one Instagram user commented on the Vans post.

Other creators and social media users will be able to get it at several retailers ahead of the 9am van on July 31st, with shoes on sale in such a limited run, sneakers being sold live on the van website and promoted on social media.

The van in the statement told USA Today that the sneaker’s official release was on July 31st.

The trends that are worn out

The van certainly wasn’t the first brand to make use of worn-out styles. In fact, Golden Goose is known for its trends, releasing a popular line of popular sneakers in 2007, continuing to dominate the “pre-made” market. Golden Goose’s top-selling Superstar sneakers feature a “dirty, frayed” sole and cost around $600.

In 2021, New Balance released the “Protection Pack,” a line of sneakers that appears to have torn fabric. Last year, Puma released sneakers with $AP Rocky, known as “Inhale Distredded.” The $130 sneakers that were now sold out were in a dirty box and appeared to be covered in grease.

And earlier this year, Nike released the Air Force 1 Lower Air Force with “Dirty Triple White.” The $130 sneakers look dirty, folded and worn, despite being brand new.

Shannon Sharp “in peace” with ESPN fire but wanted to wait for the network

Shannon Sharp said he was “in peace” at the end of his run at ESPN, but he has one persistent problem with how the terminations were handled.

Hall of Fame tight ends and media commentators have disappointed news about the network’s decision to move on from him until the brothers introduced this weekend into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Sharp, who has appeared on ESPN’s “First Take” twice a week since 2023, revealed this on his “Night-Cap” podcast on Wednesday, July 30th, confirming that ESPN learned that it ended earlier this week.

Sharp said his only request is to wait until the network releases the news until Monday, August 4th. His older brother, longtime Green Bay Packers wide receiver Sterling Sharp, is being enshrined in Canton, Ohio on Saturday as part of the 2025 Professional Football Hall of Fame class.

Shannon and Sterling Sharp are set to be the first pair of brothers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Shannon Sharp has been appointed to the class of 2011.

ESPN “does what they felt they needed to do, and I’m in peace with it,” Shannon Sharp said. “But I hope everyone. I hate the fact that I’ve covered my brothers, so I hope this has been waiting until Monday. The first two brothers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame are headlines for the next few days.”

ESPN has yet to publicly comment on Sharpe’s status since Athletic first reported the network’s decision to cut ties with him on Wednesday, July 30th. The Expn and Sharpe split occurred less than two weeks after Sharpe settled a $50 million lawsuit in connection with sexual assault and battery charges by Ex-Girlfriend.

Sharpe last appeared on ESPN in April and resigned after the lawsuit was first filed. However, he publicly denied the allegations, calling them a “shakedown” and maintained their relationship with the accuser as “100% agreement.” Sharp said it was when NFL training camp began before the 2025 season and was planning to return to ESPN’s airwaves.

The settlement in Sharp’s case came into light on July 18 when Tony Buzby, a lawyer for a woman identified as “Jane Doe” in court filings, announced that both parties had reached a resolution and the lawsuit would be dismissed. No details on the contract have been announced.

The woman accused Sharp of attacking her twice in October 2024 and January 2025 after engaging in a deliberate infringement of emotional distress. She said Sharp became violent in the course of their relationship and recorded the sexual encounter without her consent. Sharp has never faced criminal charges on this issue.

The 57-year-old Sharp retired from the NFL in May 2004 after a 14-year career that became his first tight end in yards with three Super Bowls and over 10,000 careers.

Controversial FDA official Dr. Vinai Prasad leaves agency

0

Dr Vinai Prasad, a controversial critic of the US Food and Drug Administration, who played his best role in the regulator in May, resigned less than three months later.

“Dr. Prasad doesn’t want to be distracted by the FDA’s great work in the Trump administration, and has decided to return to California to spend more time with his family,” a spokesman for the U.S. Health Service told CNN on Tuesday.

Hematologist oncologist Prasad was appointed head of the FDA’s Center for Biological Evaluation and Research in early May, experiencing vaccines and biological drugs. He was later given the role of FDA’s Chief Medical and Scientific Officer. Like many Trump administration health appointees, Prasad has been a harsh critic of the government’s response and vaccine policy during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prasad’s departure came amid renewed pressure from the White House to let him resign, according to those familiar with the matter given anonymity to explain the internal dynamics.

Rumer took shots of him on her website and social media, publicly attacking him for several days as a “progressive left-wing destroyer” that “damaged President Trump’s FDA.”

Rumer focused on Prasad’s previous social media posts and podcast episodes, where he said he was politically aligned with the liberal politicians and expressed “a bitch” to Trump. Following her post, she has included others including former US Senator Rick Santorum, who called Prasad “the man who destroyed @Potus’ legacy to help patients,” and “Vinai Prasad is Bernie Sanders Akorito from Maha Drug.”

Prasad did not respond to requests for comment. A White House spokesman introduced a request for comment to HHS.

Prasad was defended a few days ago by FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty McCurry. In an interview with Politico, Makary said that Prasad is “the perfect scientist… one of the greatest scientific minds of our generation.”

“We appreciate his service and the many important reforms he has achieved in his time at the FDA,” said an HHS spokesman.

Prasad took on a role in the FDA after becoming a critic of several voices for the agency’s drug approval over the years. In particular, he opposed the decision to approve the drug of Erevidi’s Salepta, a Duchenne muscular dystrophy, claiming there is little evidence that would serve the stalling or reverse symptoms of a rare and fatal genetic disorder.

This month, the FDA requested that Salepta cease shipping the drug after the death of a young Brazilian patient was reported. Just a day before Prasad’s departure, the agency made an incredible reversal, allowing Salepta to resume shipping for certain patients.

Prasad also elicited criticism from former staff and vaccine experts after revealing that an internal memo in May revealed that it overturned FDA scientists on recommendations for two newer versions of the Covid-19 vaccine. The director at the time replied with the recommendations for widespread use of shots. The FDA ultimately approved the vaccine for use in older people and immunocompromised people, but did not advise young Americans without underlying conditions.

The EU welcomes Ukrainian laws to restore independence to anti-corruption agencies

0

Many European leaders welcomed the news that Ukrainian President Volodimia Zelensky has signed a law to restore independence to their country’s major anti-corruption institutions.

Of the 340 lawmakers, 331 voted in favour of the bill on Thursday, forming an overwhelming constitutional majority.

Major anti-government protests broke out across Ukraine last week after the Parliament approved a bill that brought two major institutions.

The massive demonstrations were Ukraine’s first major anti-government protest since Russia’s 2022 invasion.

When approving the bill last week, Zelensky called the necessary steps to remove “Russian influence” from the two institutions. Two employees of one of the bodies were arrested last week “on suspicion of working for special Russian service.”

However, on Thursday, the president in a statement posted to X, said he would listen to the people of Ukrainians and that the “right decision” would be to reverse the controversial bill.

The law he signed on Thursday is “guaranteeing the proper independent functioning of Ukrainian anti-corruption groups and all law enforcement agencies,” Zelensky said, adding that the new law “sures Russia with all law enforcement officials with secret or relatives of the state.”

“This is the right decision. It’s very important for the nation to listen to public opinion. That’s what it means to hear its citizens. Ukraine is a democracy – without a doubt,” he said.

Ukrainian lawmakers voted to restore independence of the country's anti-corruption agency in Kiev on July 31, 2025.

Ukraine has long been considered one of Europe’s most corrupt countries. The European Union warned Kiev that strong anti-transplant measures must be implemented if they wish to join the bloc.

Both European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Council President Antonio Costa said in the same X post that the new law signed Thursday was a “welcome step.”

“Ukrainian rule of law and anti-corruption reforms need to continue. They will remain integral to Ukraine’s progress in European paths. The EU will continue to support these efforts,” they said.

Kaja Kallas, representative of EU diplomatic and security policy, wrote on social media that “Ukraine’s move to restore the power of anti-corruption groups demonstrates its determination to quickly return to the course when European democratic values are at risk.”

“The rule of law and the fight against corruption is extremely important for countries seeking to participate in the EU,” she said.

Diplomats from EU countries such as the Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden also welcomed the move.

Black women reach state political record numbers, the report found

0

WASHINGTON – The number of Black women elected to Congress has been stable in recent years, but this year’s record number of black women have served in the state legislature.

A new report entitled Black Women in American Politics 2025 at American Politics 2025, presented to USA Today shortly before its July 31 release, traced the number of Black women serving statewide offices, state legislatures and legislatures over the past decade. The report found at one point in 2025 that 402 black women had been in the state legislature for 240 years.

“It’s steadily progressing,’ Chelsea Hill, author of the report, mentioned the 2024 election.

Since 2014, the number of black women in the state legislature has risen by 67%, according to a report by the high heights that work to expand the political power of black women.

The state legislature has long served as a path to legislative assembly. Over a decade since the first report, there has been an acceleration of black women “moving along the pipeline,” said Heights Kerr, chairman of Hightights.

Last year also marked the first of a black woman to have a historic bid for President Kamala Harris. Harris, who became the first woman to African-American and Asian American, ran for president, and announced on July 30 that she would not run for governor in California. She did not say whether she ruled out the president’s bid in 2028.

Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware and Angela of Maryland made history when Angela of Maryland, both Democrats, was also elected as the first two black women to serve in the US Senate at the same time.

When the report was first published in 2014, there were no black women in the Senate, Kerr said.

“It reminds me of why we work and how it reminds me of the program and the impact of the work,” she said.

“When black women run, they win.”

Over the years, Black women have had more opportunities to run at the state level, Kerr and Hill said. They pointed out more programs to recruit and train female candidates.

“When black women run, they win,” said Hill, data director for the Center for American Women. At the council level, black women have a higher win rate than their counterparts.”

In the 2024 general election, 63% of candidates in the Black Women’s Congress won the contest, with the report showing that all female candidates outperforming their victory by 49% and male candidates outperforming race/ethnicity by 53%.

Many women who serve on the legislature are former state legislators. The number of black women in Congress has almost doubled from 17 to 31, including representatives who do not vote since 2014, the report found.

Kamala effect

Hill called Harris’ presidency the “galvanized power” of all women, including black women.

Carr said Harris’ presidential bid “shows the strength of the Black women’s leadership pipeline.”

“This is a woman who ran and won at all levels of government,” Kerr said Harris had served in California and California for over a decade.

Kerr said Harris’ calculated decision not to run for the governor will continue to encourage women and black women to take office.

“More importantly, we created a blueprint around ‘how we serve at the local level, serve the higher office and continue running,” Kerr said.

Meanwhile, the report found other benefits. The eight black women are mayors of the 100 most populous cities, including Karen Bass in Los Angeles, Muriel Bowser in Washington, and Latoya Cantrell in New Orleans.

Challenges remain for black female candidates

Despite the benefits, female candidates often face hurdles including fundraising, experts said. Some black female candidates complain that party organizations are slow to support their bids.

Though these barriers are less, Kerr said there is an increase in misinformation about candidates and that black women are targets of political threats.

Most black women elected to Congress were Democrats.

GOP candidates also need to address the tensions among Republicans who are often opposed to diversity, equity and inclusion, including women. There was only a Republican black woman, the late Mia of Utah elected to Congress, and one black woman.

“I certainly hope that I won’t be the last one. I really do,” Love told USA Today in 2022.

There were also a record number of black women in the state legislature, but there are five states in the state legislature that do not have black women, Hill said. Includes Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.

There is no black female governor

One place where there was no victory for black women was the governor. Over the past decade, several black women have run for governor, including Stacey Abrams of Georgia, but have not won.

They are trying more, including Republican Lieutenant Colonel Winsam Earl Sears, who is running for governor of Virginia this year. Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms has announced plans to run for governor of Georgia in 2026.

Hill said the landscape is different from 2024. In 2026, there will be 36 open seats.

“Hopefully we can all retire from the fact that ”I’ve never had a black female governor”,” Hill said.

Meanwhile, Kerr and Hill said there may be more opportunities for black women to run next year. In 2024 there were 73 statewide races. Next year there will be 200.

Hill said he hopes black women are recruiting, supporting and running some of these positions.

It is also being promoted to ensure that many black women run in areas with diverse groups, not just in diverse black neighborhoods, Carr said.

“In 2026, we’re guaranteed we don’t lose the ground, and that (it) is that there’s the infrastructure for black women to run for reelection, black women to run for a higher office, and there’s more black women to run,” she said.

Dr. Susan Monares stepped into the role of director at the CDC

0

Dr. Susan Monares was sworn in as director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday, and she is taking the reins at the agency’s dangerous times.

The CDC has lost nearly a quarter of its staff since January thanks to massive workforce cuts at federal health agencies. The 2026 Trump administration’s proposed budget would cut institutional funds by more than half. And under the proposed reorganization, the CDC is expected to lose more of its program. Some will be transferred to a new administration for a healthy America, but others, such as the National Chronic Diseases and Health Promotion Center, will be eliminated entirely.

All this has undermined years of federal policies and processes supporting the US vaccination, as US Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has long promoted misinformation about vaccines.

Kennedy has also silenced scientists amid the worst measles outbreak in the United States for the first time in 30 years, with communications coming out of federal health agencies, including the CDC.

Many agencies and the wider public health world believe that Monares is either a savior or a savior.

The morale among agency staff is bleak, a CDC official told the condition that it was not named for fear of retaliation.

Officials said staff members did not know what Monales’ confirmation would mean. Many consider her to be a great scientist and someone with experience in leading federal agency positions.

But they are also wondering whether she will be constrained by Kennedy, officials said.

Monares was the CDC’s assistant director and acting director from January to March. She rejected herself from agency decisions while waiting for confirmation from the Senate.

According to a second CDC source, Monares said he was silent during his early weeks at the agency.

“We had never heard of her when she was interim director and was able to interact with staff,” said a source who spoke anonymously for fear of retaliation.

“Everyone is pretty disappointed that she’s not a medical or public health person and there’s no HHS leadership either,” the staff said.

Monares has a doctorate. In microbiology and immunology, you are not a doctor. She will be the first CDC director since the 1950s with no clinical background.

During her confirmation hearing, Monales described herself as the daughter of a rural Wisconsin dairy farmer who attended state schools and paid her way through college and graduate school. Her research focuses on two diseases, sleep disease and toxoplasmosis in Africa, and although treatment for these diseases remains limited, she said she was attracted to public health because public health interventions reduced the impact of the disease.

Monares’ tenure in government spans Republican and Democrat administrations. Before coming to CDC in January, she was the Advance Research Projects Agency for Health (associate director of ARPA-H) and was founding director of the Department of Health Resources and Services’ Innovation Centre. She held other leadership positions in the Department of Homeland Security and the Bureau of Advanced Biomedical Research and Development.

In a news release Thursday, Kennedy said Monales had “an unexpected scientific qualification” and was totally confident in his ability to restore American confidence in his agency.

“It’s a great honor to be joined by Secretary Kennedy and his HHS leadership team,” Monales said in a news release. “I think it’s a privilege to work with the CDC civil servants. We will strengthen and modernize the country’s public health preparation and response through science and innovation. We will work every day at the CDC to make America healthy.”

However, under questions from the senator at her confirmation hearing, Monales appeared to be keeping her distance from Kennedy on two issues: vaccines and fluoride.

In response to questions from Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is independent from Vermont, about the US ending support for the Global Alliance for vaccines and vaccinations, Monales said, “I think vaccines will save lives. I think we need to continue to support vaccine promotions and use.”

When asked if Sanders agreed that there was no scientifically proven link between vaccines and autism, Monares said he had never seen a causal relationship between vaccines and autism.

Regarding fluoride, Monales told Sen. Angela that he “sees it as an important factor for oral health.”

Brooks also asked about the fluorination of public drinking water, including Monares’ own town. “They’re fluorinated there. Are they safe for families in Potomac, Maryland?”

“I think water in Potomac, Maryland is safe,” replied Monares.

One staff member who worked for Monares at ARPA-H described her as a quiet presence. She wasn’t the type of manager with an active presence in Slack or email, they said.

“We all respected her. She was in the government for a long time,” said a staff member who spoke on the condition that she was not named for fear of retaliation.

Dr. Jennifer Nuzzo, who directs the Pandemic Center in Brown University’s Faculty of Public Health, has known Monares for at least 10 years.

“She is a lifelong government scientist and she has moved up the ranks to become a very advanced leader,” Nuzzo said. “She is loyal to serving Americans.”

When Monares got detailed in the White House, they worked together, where they worked on the US National Plan of Action to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

“She got to the heart of a complex policy issue, but she was also able to put together a very diverse set of stakeholders to provide input on that strategy,” Nuzzo said. “I think that’s a great example of what Susan is doing.”

Monales said there are three priorities for the CDC.

First, she wants to improve her trust in the agency and its recommendations. She then focuses on strengthening her public health infrastructure by investing in tools to prevent, detect and respond to threats in near real-time. She has committed to working with state and local public health departments to build a national public health network. Finally, she said she works to generate a prompt, evidence-based response to public health emergencies through consistent, fact-based, timely communication.

While these are valuable goals, she said her biggest concern is whether Monales can act independently without political interference.

“If you need to allow everything that needs to be done, you can’t run an organization as important and large as CDC,” Nuzzo added.

Dr. Richard Besser, former acting director of the CDC, said in a statement that he looks forward to meeting Monares to better understand her plans as he leads the agency. Besser is currently president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

“Dr. Monales not only leads the CDC, she has to fight for it. Our entire country’s public health system relies on the CDC, which has the tools necessary to respond to the pandemic, reduce chronic illnesses, and address health inequality that continues to leave too many communities behind.

CNN’s Meg Tirrell contributed to this report.

Under attack from all sides, armed clans try to protect the aid entering Gaza

0

Securing trucks carrying aid to Gaza is an act of balancing the Abu Mugsaib family. Getting too close to Israeli military checkpoints can be fatal. However, staying too far gives the marauder the opportunity to first reach valuable cargo.

“This is the biggest challenge we face. We cannot get close to our military positions, and by doing so, we are at risk,” a member of the group acting as truck protection told CNN. Two weeks ago, Hamas killed one of his team members, and he said two were injured in an Israeli fire last month.

As law and order break down further and hunger crosses Gaza, institutions seeking assistance to territorial warehouses and distribution points rely on groups such as Abu Mugsaib.

“When the truck enters (Gaza), you will either be intercepted by the looters or receive them before they are overwhelmed by the crowd,” said the man who asked to remain anonymous for security reasons.

“When it comes to our weapons, they are simple family-owned firearms, they also have sticks and batons.”

Aid workers are increasingly attacked by armed marauders seeking to resell aid at a legal price, and crowds of hungry people hoping to feed their families.

The United Nations this week said it was struggling to get aid where it needed most, and denounced Israel for delaying its fleets by making the process too cumbersome.

The Palestinians are holding an aid truck returning to Gaza on July 22nd.

The World Food Programme said on Sunday that Israel agreed to streamline the process and allow alternative routes to be used, but the UN said most of the trucks are still blocked.

In the face of allegations that it was intentionally starving the Gaza population, Israel denounced the United Nations, saying it didn’t properly distribute supplies, and accusing Hamas of stealing aid.

In the absence of official security, the Abumugsaib family and other groups are intervening.

“International organizations such as the World Central Kitchen and the World Health Organization (WHO) have asked to ensure the provision of aid. …After we were successful, our family-based group was formally established to serve that purpose,” a member of the clan told CNN, adding that the family is part of the Tarabin tribe, a prominent Bedouin family.

“We will coordinate with several other families and handle the security of the delivery of aid,” he said, adding that unlike other groups, Abu Mugsaib has not cooperated with either Israel or Hamas.

A spokesman for those who have said that the organization, in partnership with the “elders of different communities” and the Gaza Ministry of Health, “when critical aid is passing… when the community is informed and that the item is understood to be a life-saving medical aid.

The Palestinians have the aid they received on July 31 from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation for US Support in the Gaza Strip.

It’s a dangerous business to accompany a truck. The Clan sent one video to CNN. This shows that members are escorting a fleet of 10 trucks for the non-profit World Central Kitchen. It shows an armed man – some are masked, some are wearing hibis vests – and they were speeding up on cars along Sarah Al Din road in Deia Al Bala and shot in the air.

People can see them running across the road, but no one will try to intercept the convoy.

CNN contacted World Central Kitchen for comment.

A family member who spoke to CNN said they sometimes provide free protection while receiving payments from some groups.

“Like the World Health Organization, we are voluntary when it comes to medical or infant formula. For private sector cargo and commercial goods, we are paid in return for the risk we take. Some organizations also offer small payments to cover fuel, ammunition and similar costs,” he said.

The UN said the time-consuming approval process for Gaza to get assistance often leads to trucks being stuck in one place for a long time, attracting a large number of people.

Olga Celevko of the UN Humanitarian Agreement Office (OCHA) accompanied one of the convoys who had attempted to deliver aid from the Kelem-Shalom border intersection earlier this week.

She said the convoy was held for two and a half hours at checkpoints in Israel. “By the time we were allowed to pass, we met tens of thousands of hungry, hopeless people on the road who had offloaded everything directly from the back of the truck,” Chelevko said.

The UN and its partners have offloaded 2,134 trucks of aid at Gaza intersection since May 19, when Israel partially lifted the lockdown imposed in March.

The United Nations said that the majority of them, about 2,010 trucks, had been collected, but only 260 arrived at the intended destination. Over 1,750 people were intercepted – peacefully by hungry people or powerfully by armed gangs.

Israel accused Hamas of stealing aid, but internal US government reviews found no evidence of widespread theft.

More than 1,060 people have been killed and 7,200 have been injured while trying to access food in Gaza since May, according to the United Nations. Most died near a distribution point established by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a controversial private venture backed by the US and Israel.

The Palestinians will carry the aid plot west of Beit Rahia in Gaza on July 29th.

According to humanitarian agencies, too little aid reaches those in the most needy.

Along the way, Eyad Al-Masri, a 31-year-old father of two with a third child, was buying food from those who got it at the infamous, dangerous aid distribution point. The prices were high, but still lower than the market.

However, on Saturday, he decided to go to a point near Netzarim in central Gaza.

He’s a general story. The integrated food security stage classification (IPC) said Tuesday that “the worst-case scenario of hunger” is unfolding in Gaza.

The territorial health ministry said Tuesday that 900,000 children were hungry and 70,000 people were already showing signs of malnutrition.

“I felt there was no other option,” Al Masri told CNN. “When the truck arrived, I was shocked to see the number of armed burglars, some carrying knives with firearms, and working in large groups.”

Al Masri managed to get a box of food and was delighted with the prospect of giving at least some of the things they desperately needed to his child and pregnant wife. “But as I left the area, a man armed with a knife came to me and tried to get the box with force,” said Al Masri.

He offered to split the contents, but the attacker insisted on taking everything. “When I refused, he stabbed me in my head many times,” he said.

Following the thief, Al Masri didn’t realize he was bleeding. He was focused on getting back at least some food. He eventually managed with the help of others.

“There are hungry people who come to these distribution areas, but they can’t get anything because of the armed groups,” he said.

Members of the Abu Mugsaib clan said the attacks on his group came from all sides of other families, organized gangs of marauders, Hamas and Israeli forces.

He said in July a member of the escort team was shot dead by Hamas. He later said that the murder was a mistake.

Palestinians are mourning in Gaza city on July 31 outside the morgue at Arshifa Hospital, where the bodies of those killed were brought to the city the day before while seeking assistance.

“A month ago, (Israel forces) fired a vehicle carrying members of the escort team, causing injury to two men,” he added.

However, he added that the group will continue to provide security as long as it needs to be.

“Vulnerable people need food and medicine urgently. We are not a substitute for any authority, and no one is aiming to exchange it,” he said.

However, he acknowledged that the group’s power was far away. “We are under strict instructions to not harm civilians. …Even if they could seize the truck in such cases, we will let them take it without confronting them.”

If you want to go to your happy place but can’t waive a trip to a local golf course or your favorite beach at all, the subway has an alternative option.

To further promote collaboration with Netflix comedy Happy Gilmore 2, Subway announced on Thursday, July 31st that it will turn one of its California locations into “Happy Place” of the new original film Happy Gilmore.

According to a news release from Sandwich Chain, Subway’s Happy Place will “have fans relive the iconic scenes and play mini golf on courses inspired by the film’s most memorable shots.”

Happy Place will be open to the public on Friday, August 8th from noon to 7pm. The restaurant is located at 1801 W. Pico Blvd. In Santa Monica, California. Admission is free, but fans are encouraged to book and line up to secure a spot at SubwayhappyPlace.com/Events.

“In addition to unique photo shoots, props from Happy Gilmore 2 and many subway sandwiches, fans can relax with ice cold beer on tap and find the center in the subway country club style beer garden,” according to the sandwich chain.

Fans who want more information are encouraged to follow Subway on Instagram and Tiktok.

The subway announced Happy Gilmore’s meal, Collectible Cup, early this summer

To celebrate the arrival of “Happy Gilmore 2” on Netflix on July 25th, Subway announced a Happy Gilmore meal in late June. This will be available at U.S. and Canadian subway restaurants starting July 10th, with supply continuing.

Subway customers can make their day’s combos and meals into Happy Gilmore meals for an additional $1, and receive one of four limited edition collectible cups featuring fans’ favorite characters from the movie franchise.

The four Collective Cups feature Happy new caddies from Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler), Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald), Hal L. (Ben Stiller), Oscar (Bud Bunny) and Happy Gilmore 2. Subway said in a July 31 news release that since launching them, it has sold around 2 million Happy Gilmore meals.

Each Happy Gilmore meal will “transport fans through QR codes to Subway’s Happy Place, inspired by Happy’s iconic dream world and transport fans to an immersive digital experience rethinked by Subway and Netflix,” Subway said in a news release.

Subway MVP reward members can get even more perks inside the happy subway location. For example, a bonus entry to a weekly sweepstakes to win a chance to win a weekly prize.

Subway told USA Today on July 30 that there was no end date for the promotion and it received a certain number of cups available as long as the supply continues for each location where each restaurant participates.

Customers are encouraged to check with local metro restaurants to inquire about the availability of cups.

“Happy Gilmore 2” wins Netflix’s biggest opening weekend count

According to internal Netflix data, “Happy Gilmore 2” watched 91.9 million minutes on its first weekend. This is 46.7 million views between July 25th and 27th, according to streamer calculations.

The viewership ratings give the right to boast about Sandler’s star-studded sequel to have the biggest US opening weekend for Netflix movies, a streamer spokesman confirmed by USA Today on July 30.

Variety first reported the news.

In a sequel co-written by Sandler, Happy left golf a few years ago after a tragic accident. When he needs to raise $300,000 to send his daughter, Vienna (Sunny Sandler) to a prestigious ballet school in Paris, Happy again hits the link and meets old PAL shooter McGavin.
