Chipotle’s new crispy chicken test divides the internet

0

play

The “Limited Time” Chicken Wars at Chipotle Mexican Grill are heating up with a new contender entering the ring: Crispy Chicken.

Chipotle is testing a new Crispy Chicken Protein in some California stores, but some diners are still clamoring for Chipotle Honey Chicken, the limited-time chicken the Tex-Mex chain currently offers.

In a statement shared with USA TODAY, Chipotle said it will “use guest and operational feedback to determine whether to move forward with broader market testing as part of the stage gate process.”

Chipotle has remained relatively tight-lipped about the product, but social media users have been sharing photos of the test restaurant’s sign stating that the crispy chicken is free of gluten, antibiotics, and artificial ingredients.

Here’s what you need to know about the internet’s reaction to Chipotle’s new Crispy Chicken.

Skeptics, fans stop beating

Although advertised as “tender, light and crispy,” some commenters on social media were skeptical about whether the chicken would be able to maintain its outer crispiness when mixed with things like wakuwa and salsa.

One person wrote on Instagram: “Wow, it’s going to be so soggy.”

On Reddit, someone wrote, “Crispy chicken doesn’t stay crispy after you cut it. Breaded chicken automatically steams within 5 minutes. That’s a pain.”

Some are excited and hope it will be rolled out nationwide soon.

“Bring it to (Florida),” one user urged.

“I hope Ohio State is next,” wrote another hopeful.

Limited time chicken war intensifies

Still, with Chipotle Honey Chicken now on the menu, some customers argue the chain doesn’t need a new chicken option.

“The only thing you guys need to add forever is honey chicken,” one user claimed, adding: “Nobody wants fried chicken with rice and beans.”

“They might take the honey chicken out of my cold, dead hands,” another threatened.

Is it vegan friendly?

The fine print on one sign says the restaurant’s chips and crunchy taco shells are fried in the same oil as the chicken, leaving vegan and vegetarian customers confused.

“They’re really making that move to cater to their vegetarian customers,” one source pointed out. “Do you fry chicken and chips in the same oil? The chips start to taste weird.”

It is unclear how long the test launch will last. Other than issuing a statement, Chipotle did not respond to several other questions from USA TODAY.

RFK Jr. wrestles snake with bare hands and gets bitten in latest animal video

Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has added snakes to the list of creatures in dispute.

In a now-viral video posted to X on May 26, Kennedy is seen grabbing and picking up two creatures from the home of Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

As with previous wildlife encounters, the Health Secretary took it upon himself to deal with the situation. Of course, it was done with his bare hands, much to the chagrin of his wife, Cheryl Hines.

“Honey, honey! Why? Why?” Kennedy, dressed in full business professional attire, could be heard asking Hines as he bent down to grab the black reptile. As the snake jumped and slithered in an attempt to escape, Kennedy managed to grab it with both hands, narrowly avoiding their attempts to grab a mouthful of skin.

As he proudly dangled them in the air for the camera, one of them managed to land a nice blow on Kennedy’s hand. While Hines continues to worry off-camera, Oz and Kennedy laugh it off while trying to identify the type of snake and therefore whether the bite is anything to worry about.

“Are you biting?” Oz asks.

“Yeah,” Kennedy laughed, holding up his injured hand.

Hines expressed concern that the snake might be a poisonous water moccasin, but Kennedy ultimately dismissed his concerns as the reptile continued to writhe in his hands.

“Honey, please, let them go! Bobby, please!” Kennedy can be heard saying as she beckons Oz to “take a picture” with the creature.

“Cheryl is rooting for the removal of a pair of black racers from Dr. Oz’s courtyard,” Kennedy wrote in the caption of the post, identifying the species of snake.

Was the snake that bit RFK Jr. poisonous?

Fortunately for Kennedy, the Southern Black Racer is a common, non-venomous species commonly found in the southeastern United States. Their bites can be unpleasant, but they pose no danger to humans. According to the Florida Museum, unless you try to catch a snake with your bare hands, you’re unlikely to get bitten in the first place.

“North American racers are not dangerous to people or pets, but they can easily bite to protect themselves,” the museum said. “Racers are not aggressive and avoid direct contact with people and pets. Virtually all bites occur when the snake is intentionally sexually abused.”

Still, the museum warns that they should be left alone, especially if the species is unknown, as they are not known to attack unless cornered.

Do not interact with, remove, or kill snakes without consulting a professional. In many cases, there is no need to interfere at all. If bitten, remove any jewelry that may restrict blood circulation. If swelling occurs, keep the bitten limb below heart level and consult a doctor.

If you are bitten by a venomous or unidentified snake, prompt treatment with antivenom is important. Please consult your nearest hospital or medical institution immediately.

“I’ve been picking up roadkill all my life”: Kennedy and the history of animals

It’s no surprise that Kennedy’s previously publicized wild animal escapades, from freezers full of car crashes to home biology “experiments,” regularly draw attention to his animal-related posts. For example, in early May, an Instagram photo of President Kennedy “rescuing” a bird at Dulles Airport prompted a flurry of jokes about him eating a starling, with one commenting that the president looked like he was holding the bird “like an ice cream cone.”

The Secretary of Health’s alleged encounter with a whale carcass is one of his most famous wildlife stories. Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy, President Kennedy’s eldest son, said in a 2012 interview with Town & Country that her father used a chainsaw to bring the giant animal’s head to life during a family vacation in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.

Kick Kennedy, who was six years old during the trip, recalled his father rushing to the beach after word spread that a whale carcass had washed up on shore. She recalled that after decapitating the body, Kennedy tied its head to the roof of the family’s minivan with a bungee cord and made the less-than-comfortable five-hour drive to Mount Kisco, New York.

“Every time I accelerated on the highway, whale juice poured into my car window. It was the worst thing on earth,” Kick Kennedy told the magazine. “We were all wearing plastic bags over our heads with mouth holes cut out, and people were pointing fingers at us on the highway, and it was just a normal, everyday thing for us.”

The National Marine Fisheries Service told The Associated Press in 2024 that it was investigating the incident as a possible violation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act, but the investigation was ultimately discontinued.

Kennedy’s apparent roadkill tendencies have crept into other headlines in recent years, and one such article raised eyebrows in April, in the midst of publication of his biography, RFK Jr.: The Fall and Rise. In the book, journalist Isabel Vincent details a 2001 entry in Kennedy’s personal diary in which he describes how he pulled over to cut out the genitals of a dead raccoon while his children waited in the car.

“I was standing in front of a parked car on Route 684, cutting the penis out of a dead raccoon in the road, thinking about how weird some of my family members had become,” the entry reads. Vincent told People magazine that Kennedy intended to “research” the body part.

“I’ve been picking up roadkill all my life. I have a freezer full of roadkill,” Kennedy told reporters while running for president in 2024, this time in response to a New Yorker report about a man who picked up a dead bear cub on the side of the road.

The then-presidential candidate also told comedian Roseanne Barr in an August 2024 conversation that he witnessed a car hit and kill a bear during a hiking trip in upstate New York in 2014. He placed the body in his car, intending to skin it and put the meat “in[his]refrigerator.” He then carried the car around all day, including visiting a steakhouse in Brooklyn, and when he realized he had to catch a flight, he abandoned the body in Central Park.

“I thought it would be interesting for whoever found it,” Barr told Barr of his plan to stage the bear’s body to look like it had been hit by a bicycle in the park. The unexplained presence of a 6-month-old baby in New York’s largest urban green space has sparked a decade-long mystery.

An experienced falconer, Kennedy is also known for raising and training birds of prey. This hobby went a little too far in the eyes of at least one family member, cousin Caroline Kennedy, who wrote a letter to the senator during Kennedy’s health secretary confirmation hearings, calling him a “predator.”

She claimed that President Kennedy “enjoyed showing off how he would put baby chickens and mice into a blender to feed the hawks” and that “perverted scenes of desperation and violence” often occurred.

And, of course, there was a parasite that “got into my brain and ate parts of it and died,” Kennedy told the New York Times in 2025, but whether that constitutes an animal rights issue is debatable.

Woman killed by umbrella at South Carolina restaurant

A South Carolina woman has died after being hit in the head and neck by a floating umbrella at a restaurant in South Carolina over the weekend, local authorities have confirmed.

The woman, identified as 56-year-old Dana Winger, was dining out on the patio of Driftwood Grill in Somerton, South Carolina, along Lake Marion, when she was killed on Saturday, May 23, the Clarendon County Coroner’s Office said in a news release sent to USA TODAY.

That night around 7:40 p.m., someone called dispatchers about a laceration, according to a news release. Clarendon Ambulance Service and Fire and Rescue Service came to the rescue, as did police officers.

Authorities found Winger unresponsive and noticed he had lacerations to his head and neck.

“Paramedics followed protocol but were unable to resuscitate her,” the coroner said in a news release. “Suddenly a strong wing flew an umbrella off the table and it hit (the winger).”

The medical examiner’s office pronounced her dead about an hour after the first call for help. The coroner said there were no other injuries that day.

The coroner said in a news release that an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, and that the incident is being investigated as an accident.

‘This is seriously impacting many people in our community’: Restaurants and community members respond to tragedy

Driftwood Grill, where the incident occurred, posted multiple posts on Facebook after the woman’s death, the first being on Sunday night, the day after her death.

“Our hearts go out to the families, friends, and loved ones affected by last night’s tragic incident on Lake Marion due to sudden severe weather,” the restaurant wrote. “This incident has had a profound impact on many in our community, including our guests, staff, first responders, and everyone involved. We respect the family and those affected and ask for your continued prayers, compassion, and privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”

On Monday, May 25, the restaurant thanked the Clarendon County Fire Department, Fire Marshal’s Office and other agencies that responded to the scene and assisted. The restaurant said Monday there was an outpouring of support for the restaurant and area residents, and Winger’s death had a deep impact on many people in the area, including first responders.

“Today’s support session meant more than words can express to the many people affected emotionally by the events of that night,” the restaurant wrote.

Winger’s loved ones shared photos of him after learning of his death. One Facebook user said Ms Winger was a second mother to her children.

“I miss her so much,” the user wrote. “This woman…is not a friend. She is family. She is a second mother to my children. I will never recover from this situation. It hurts more than I could have imagined.”

Another user shared a photo of Winger and said she worked actively to support them for more than a decade.

“Dana, I promise to make sure your dad and our lake family are okay too,” the user wrote. “You both had such a huge impact on everyone you touched, and there is nothing in the world that can make up for what happened.”

Will AI take your job? OpenAI’s Sam Altman has a new prediction.

0

play

After all, AI may not be coming to your job.

Sam Altman, CEO of tech giant OpenAI, says the rapid rise of artificial intelligence will likely not cause the global “jobs apocalypse” that many observers, including Altman, predicted.

Altman is one of the world’s leading authorities on AI and has been one of the most vocal in warning that the technology could wipe out jobs across the white-collar workforce.

In a 2025 interview, Altman predicted that “30 to 40 percent” of all work tasks will likely be replaced by AI in the “not too distant future.”

But in a virtual interview at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia conference in Sydney on May 26, Mr Altman said fears about AI were overblown.

“I’m glad we were wrong on this point,” Altman said in remarks reported by Reuters and conference organizers. “Now I thought the impact of eliminating entry-level white-collar jobs would be greater than what is actually happening.”

Will AI take away white-collar jobs?

Other technology industry leaders have expressed concern that the viral spread of AI will automate human tasks and lead to an explosion of jobs at all levels of professional, managerial, and administrative work.

A year ago, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said Axios AI could eliminate half of all entry-level positions and create double-digit jobs over the next few years.

Some companies have openly replaced employees with AI, while others have announced layoffs while ramping up AI.

“A significant number of companies have announced that they won’t be hiring much or are actually cutting jobs, and in most cases they’re talking about AI,” Jerome Powell, now the former chairman of the Federal Reserve, said in an October speech.

But Altman now believes that many jobs ultimately require an irreplaceable human element. As an example, Altman said he went back to writing emails himself rather than outsourcing them to AI.

“We really value interacting with people,” he said.

How did Will Levis delete the explicit video leak? His mom explains

0

play

What does it take to remove an explicit video from the internet? Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Reavis’ mother says it takes a cybersecurity expert and an “exorbitant amount of money.”

Beth Reavis explained the process her son had to go through in May 2024 on a recent episode of NFL reporter Ross Tucker’s podcast. As Will Revis enters his first season as the Titans’ projected starting pitcher in 2024, an explicit video of the Tennessee passer and his ex-girlfriend is leaked on social media.

“Will actually ended up hiring cybersecurity experts and spent an exorbitant amount of money to get to the bottom of it,” Beth Reavis said on the podcast. “Eventually, a lot of the content was removed, but you can never completely scrape something off the internet. It’s there forever. Unfortunately, the footprints remain.”

Beth also said her son’s personal data was compromised years ago, when Will was still a student at the University of Kentucky. She said an “Eastern European hacker group” was responsible for the incident.

The Titans quarterback has never publicly commented on the leak in the two years since it occurred.

Levis started 12 games for Tennessee in 2024, posting a 2-10 record. He also completed 190 of 301 pass attempts (63.1%) for 2,091 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

In 2025, the Titans drafted another quarterback, Cam Ward from Miami, with the first overall pick. Replacing Levi behind center was an obvious decision. Levis then missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing surgery on his throwing shoulder before training camp last year.

On May 21, the Titans’ 2023 second-round pick made his first appearance with the team since last year. As Tennessee began organized team activities (OTAs) last week, Levis practiced during team drills.

President Trump raises the refugee cap by 10,000. Only white South Africans are allowed

0

play

President Donald Trump has raised the cap on refugee admissions to the United States by 10,000, but only white South Africans will benefit.

According to an emergency order dated May 21, President Trump raised the refugee cap for this fiscal year from 7,500 to 17,500. That slot is reserved only for Afrikaners, South Africa’s white minority.

The order states that opening up an additional 10,000 slots exclusively for Afrikaners is “justified by significant humanitarian concerns and otherwise in the national interest of the United States.”

“Due to the recent increase in incitement to racially motivated violence by the South African government and prominent South African political party leaders, an unexpected and urgent refugee situation currently exists.”

President Trump has said Africans are victims of “genocide,” a claim that has been popularized on right-wing social media circles and supported by South African-born Elon Musk. The South African government disputes this characterization, saying crime statistics do not support claims that the country’s white farmers are targets of race-based violence.

Afrikaners were the dominant group under South Africa’s legal apartheid system, which was abolished in 1994. Some Afrikaners argue that a 2024 law that allows the government to take land “in the public interest” discriminates against them.

President Trump suspended the refugee program shortly after taking office in January 2025, and later that year lowered the cap on refugee admissions from 125,000 to a record low of 7,500. He also ordered a review of the approximately 197,000 refugees who were admitted to the United States while President Joe Biden was in office.

He made an exception for Afrikaners. The first group of Afrikaners to apply for asylum arrived in May last year. As of April, just over 6,000 refugees had been admitted to the United States this fiscal year, all but three of them from South Africa, according to State Department data.

Refugee advocacy groups slammed the new emergency order.

“This is not refugee protection. It is the politicization of humanitarian programs for ideological purposes,” Beth Oppenheim, president of the refugee organization HIAS, said in a statement.

The International Rescue Committee said it was “deeply concerned” by the order, noting that more than 128,000 “fully vetted” refugees were stranded after President Trump suspended refugee admissions.

“At a time of record global displacement, allocating limited refugee admissions overwhelmingly to one nationality leaves many of the world’s most vulnerable people without protection.”

South Carolina Senate rejects redistricting after Trump loses

0

Democrats won two states on the same day, in South Carolina and Alabama, gaining a small but necessary position in the nationwide redistricting battle that will continue into the fall.

play

South Carolina’s Republican-controlled Senate rebelled against President Donald Trump and on May 26 rejected an effort to draw new congressional districts before the midterm elections.

The Democratic victory in the Palmetto State marked one of two small but necessary victories on the same day for the National Party, which has lost significant ground in recent weeks in the redistricting battles engulfing the nation heading into November.

Congressional Democrats in Washington remain bullish that they will take back the House in the fall, but they have been significantly set back by a series of damning court decisions that have left them unable to gerrymander states on par with Republicans.

Fueled by President Trump and a conservative-dominated Supreme Court, partisan map-making is spreading like wildfire as both parties in Congress aim to grow and gain a deeper foothold in the House.

The Republican push in South Carolina would have targeted the seat held by Rep. James Clyburn, the only Democrat in the state’s federal delegation.

The South Carolina House of Representatives passed a redistricting bill last week, but the state Senate delayed it until May 26, when early voting begins in the state. By a vote of 26-18, the Legislature decided to suspend redistricting debate until the next session.

Republican state Sen. Richard Cash had previously voted in favor of redistricting, but said the deadline to submit new congressional maps had passed once early voting began. According to the South Carolina State Board of Elections, as of 1 p.m. on May 26, more than 32,000 people had already cast early votes.

“It’s time to conclude this matter,” he said.

Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, who is running for governor, wasn’t happy with the political provocation.

“The South Carolina Senate needs to finish the job,” she wrote on social media.

SC Democratic Party gets victory lap

South Carolina Senate Minority Leader Brad Hutto, a Democrat, said the result was proof that “rules matter.” Carl Allen, the other Democrat in the state Assembly, praised Republicans for acting across party lines.

“We want to create a South Carolina that includes all of the best interests of all South Carolinians,” Allen said.

The South Carolina Senate will now adjourn until June 10, when it will reconvene to continue considering the budget and other legislation. In that case, lawmakers could continue to discuss redistricting.

Redistricting war intensifies

On the same day as the South Carolina Senate vote, Democrats also gained some support in Alabama. A federal court in the state has blocked the state’s Republican Party from eliminating a majority-black district and a safe Democratic seat. In this case, an appeal is likely. The Alabama ruling marks a new twist in the national redistricting saga.

But not all states have shown a willingness to flip their electoral maps, as the latest move in South Carolina shows.

Last year, the Indiana Senate similarly rejected President Trump’s request for redistricting to increase Republican-leaning seats in December. Enraged by the backlash from local Republicans in the Hoosier state, the president responded by endorsing candidates in the primaries that ultimately ousted five incumbents this year.

Pochettino names full squad for U.S. national team

0

play

The U.S. Men’s National Team World Cup roster has been announced. This time it actually is.

Three days after the team’s full roster was leaked, USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino officially announced the 26-man roster for the 2026 tournament on Tuesday, May 26th.

The release confirms that the 26 names match those first reported by the Guardian over the weekend, confirming that the leak is indeed accurate.

There weren’t too many surprises with the names, but there were one or two decisions that gave me a headache.

“I am convinced that these 26 players are the best group to achieve success at the World Cup,” Pochettino said.

“These were very difficult decisions to make, and we are grateful to all of our players for joining us on this journey. This group is extremely focused and ready to give their all to represent the United States and put on a performance that will make our fans and country proud.”

Here’s a look at the USMNT’s entire 2026 World Cup roster and four key takeaways.

(club, cap/goal)

goalkeeper (3): Chris Brady (Chicago Fire; 0/0), Matt Freeze (New York City FC; 14/0), Matt Turner (New England Revolution; 53/0)

defender (10): Max Alfsten (Columbus Crew; 18/1), Sergiño Dest (PSV; 37/2), Alex Freeman (Villarreal; 15/2), Mark McKenzie (Toulouse; 27/0), Tim Ream (Charlotte FC; 80/1), Chris Richards (Crystal Palace; 36/3), Anthony Robinson (Fulham; 52/4), Myles Robinson (FC Cincinnati; 38/3), Joe Scully (Borussia Mönchengladbach; 24/0), Auston Trusty (Celtic; 6/0)

midfielder (6): Tyler Adams (AFC Bournemouth; 52/2), Sebastian Berhalter (Vancouver Whitecaps; 11/1), Weston McKennie (Juventus; 64/12), Gio Reyna (Borussia Mönchengladbach; 36/9), Christian Roldan (Seattle Sounders; 45/0), Malik Tillman (Bayer) Leverkusen; 28/3)

Forward (7): Brenden Aaronson (Leeds United; 57/9), Folarin Balogun (Monaco; 25/8), Ricardo Pepi (PSV; 35/13), Christian Pulisic (AC Milan; 84/32), Tim Weah (Olympique Marseille; 49/7), Hadji Wright (Coventry City; 20/7), Alejandro Zende. (20/7). America 13/2)

USMNT’s central midfield looks thin

Removing Middlesbrough’s Aidan Morris from the roster wouldn’t have been such a surprise if everyone was healthy. But could Lyon’s Tanner Tessmann and Atletico Madrid’s Johnny Cardoso both leave the team? That’s another story.

Pochettino named only four recognized central midfielders to his roster: Tyler Adams, Sebastian Berhalter, Cristian Roldan and Weston McKennie. Malik Tillman and Gio Reyna are more comfortable playing higher up as No. 10, but both can also be shifted further back if needed.

Still, Pochettino’s decision raises some real questions for a central midfielder who has played on a double pivot. If McKennie and Adams are selected, they could be stripped of the roaming ability that makes McKennie so effective.

Is Pochettino ready to start either Berhalter or Roldan? Both have excelled in MLS, but this would be a big step up for both players.

The manager may also change the shape of the midfield. In any case, the United States is just one game away from injuries in the midfield (especially Adams), which puts them in a very dangerous situation.

Gio Reyna’s potential exceeds Diego Luna’s guts

Pochettino had room to sign either Gio Reyna or Diego Luna, but not both. He chose Reina, a player with a high ceiling who continues to be a dominant force at club level.

Reyna has the talent to be a superstar, but he has been a benchwarmer for the past five years with the club.

However, the 23-year-old has managed to improve his ability with the USMNT in recent years. His ability has led manager Pochettino to admit he has had to deviate from his usual policy of calling up the best players at his clubs.

That left no room for Luna, whose grit on both sides of the ball made him a valuable cog under Pochettino. However, his work with the USMNT was mixed.

Missing out on the World Cup will be tough for Luna, who played in 17 of the USMNT’s 18 games last year. But for Pochettino, Reina was too talented to ignore.

USMNT has an excess of defenders on its roster

Basically, all the defensive players on the roster bubble are participating, with mainstays Chris Richards, Anthony Robinson, and Sergiño Dest joined by bubble players Auston Trusty and Joe Scully.

Pochettino bringing in 10 defensive players lends credence to the idea of continuing with a five-man backline, including three centre-backs and two wing-backs.

It also suggests Pochettino may be hedging his bets by bringing in as many options as possible in a group full of question marks.

The only solid central defensive option is Richards, who is currently recovering from torn ankle ligaments sustained in the penultimate game of the English Premier League season against Crystal Palace. His status for Wednesday’s Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano is unclear. Tim Ream, Mark McKenzie and Miles Robinson all bring their own question marks based on their recent performances for club and country.

Dest and Robinson are strong options at wing-back, but Max Arksten, Alex Freeman and Joe Scully can also play in this position. Freeman and Scully are also candidates for the right center back position.

The USMNT’s defense doesn’t inspire confidence, but Pochettino will at least have some options.

The young gun will wait until the 2030 World Cup

As the MLS season began, three teenagers quickly emerged as stars for the United States at the youth level.

Xavier Gozo, Julian Hall, and Adri Mehmedi are all taking their games to the next level in 2026, and all three are being called up for the USMNT’s first call-up to the World Cup.

Of the three, Gozo may have been the closest to actually making the squad, but in the end none of the trio received a call-up.

The same goes for on-again, off-again defender Noakai Banks, who declined his call-up in March to consider his international future. The 19-year-old has not yet chosen between the United States and Germany, but he will not play in the World Cup with either country.

New Quarter Celebrates 250th Anniversary of American Distribution

The latest new coins designed to commemorate the United States’ 250th anniversary will go into circulation next week, the U.S. Mint said.

In a May 25 news release, the Mint announced that distribution to commercial banks and financial institutions of the 2026 Half Centennial Quarter honoring the Declaration of Independence to the Federal Reserve System will begin on Monday, June 1.

The Declaration of Independence quarter is the third of five new quarter dollar designs for 2026. The obverse design depicts Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence and third president of the United States, and includes the inscriptions “E Pluribus Unum,” “In God We Trust,” and “1776-2026.”

The reverse depicts the Liberty Bell ringing, with the crack in the bell visible. The inscriptions on this side are “Declaration of Independence,” “Quarter Dollar,” “Liberty,” and “United States of America.”

What other quarter dollar designs will be in circulation in 2026?

Other 25 cent coins used in the semi-quincentennial commemoration include the Mayflower Compact quarter, Revolutionary War quarter, U.S. Constitution quarter and Gettysburg Address quarter.

The Mayflower Compact Quarter, which went into circulation in January, depicts two Pilgrims, a man and a woman, embracing each other under a banner that reads “E Pluribus Unum,” meaning “out of many, one.” Revolutionary War District was published in March and features George Washington during the Revolutionary War.

The quarter of the U.S. Constitution features a portrait of James Madison, which is not yet in circulation, while the quarter of the Gettysburg Address, also not yet in circulation, features Abraham Lincoln on the obverse and clasped hands and the inscription “A New Nation Conceived in Liberty” on the reverse.

President Trump to convene cabinet at Camp David amid rising tensions with Iran

0

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump will convene his entire Cabinet at the Camp David Presidential Retreat on Wednesday, May 26, as renewed U.S. attacks on Iran threaten to upend peace deal negotiations.

The unusual meeting, confirmed by administration officials, at Maryland’s Camp David facility came amid threats from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps to retaliate after U.S. Central Command announced defensive strikes on ships attempting to lay mines and missile launch sites in southern Iran.

Escalating tensions risk derailing President Trump’s efforts to secure a deal with Iran that would end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for trade between the United States and Iran. President Trump faces increasing pressure to secure a deal after both sides indicated they were close to a deal.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters hours after the airstrike that Trump was “either going to get a good deal or no deal” and that it could take “a few more days” for negotiators to reach a deal.

Iran is expected to take the lead in the Camp David talks, but the official said ministers will also discuss the economy and anti-corruption efforts, among other administration priorities.

President Trump has held 12 cabinet meetings so far in his second term, but Wednesday will be the first at Camp David, built in 1938 for former presidents to engage in diplomacy with foreign leaders. Representatives from other countries are not scheduled to attend.

President Trump’s Cabinet meetings are typically long sessions in which Trump’s top aides take turns praising the president. Tulsi Gabbard, who announced her resignation as Director of National Intelligence on May 22, is also expected to attend the Camp David meeting. Gabbard’s retirement is effective June 30th.

The conference is holding off on possible weather restrictions as rain continues to fall in the Washington, D.C., area. President Trump typically takes Marine One on trips to Camp David.

President Trump’s Camp David rally will be his second visit to a retreat during his second term. President Trump met with military leaders at Camp David in June 2025, following anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles.

It was Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding weekend. Was the president present?

  • Donald Trump Jr. married Bettina Anderson on May 21st.
  • According to reports, they celebrated in the Bahamas over the weekend.
  • Ivanka Trump and Lara Trump spent the weekend together in a tropical location.

On May 22nd, President Donald Trump sent his son and fiancée a heartfelt message about their upcoming wedding, but declined to attend.

Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson announced their engagement to the world at a White House event in December. Trump Jr. was previously married to Vanessa Trump and engaged to Kimberly Guilfoyle, who is currently the ambassador to Greece.

Ahead of the weekend, reports surfaced that President Trump’s eldest son was planning to get married in the Bahamas, and Instagram posts from the couple and the Trump family provide glimpses of what appears to be a tropical wedding. Here’s what we know:

Yes, but they legally tied the knot before their reported weekend ceremony.

A marriage license obtained by USA TODAY shows the two were legally married on May 21 in Palm Beach County, Florida.

A representative for Trump Jr. did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation about the weekend wedding.

Bettina Anderson says ‘Mrs. Trump’s Instagram flick’

Anderson has yet to share any photos from her wedding, neither her formal ceremony in Florida nor her tropical celebration, but she did share a glimpse of her first weekend as a newlywed on Instagram.

In an Instagram Story on May 25, the socialite posted a photo of a piece of white fabric embroidered with her new name, “Mrs. Trump.”

She also shared an image of a napkin printed with a quote from Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility: “My heart is, and always will be, yours.” Anderson also tagged her new husband, who reposted it to his account.

Anderson’s new sister-in-law, Ivanka Trump, also shared a photo on her account of a matching napkin with another quote. It contained a quote from Victor Hugo’s “Les Miserables.” “To love, or to have loved, is enough. I ask for nothing more. In the dark folds of life there are no better pearls to be found.”

Ivanka, Tiffany and Lara Trump share vacation photos

Trump Jr.’s sisters Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump and sister-in-law Lara Trump pose together in a photo shared on their respective Instagram accounts.

Lara Trump posted a merry-go-round of images, including a beachside selfie with her sisters-in-law and a photo with her husband Eric Trump. Also included in the selfie with Lala, Ivanka and Tiffany was Trump Jr.’s daughter Kai Trump.

In one photo, Lala and Eric Trump pose on the sand with chairs, tables and decorations in the background. Lara Trump is wearing a long coral-colored sundress, and Eric is wearing a long-sleeved button-up shirt, white jeans, and white sneakers. The couple also held sparklers in another selfie.

On his own Instagram Story, Eric Trump simply shared a photo of the teal ocean and an aerial view of the island during the flight.

Tiffany Trump shared a selfie of Lala, Ivanka, and Kai on her Instagram Story. She also posted a clip of herself standing by the seashore wearing a short sundress.

Ivanka Trump and Kai Trump paddleboard together

Ivanka Trump posted a slew of photos from the weekend to her Instagram Stories, including one with her husband Jared Kushner and a few solo shots.

She also shared a photo with her niece Kai Trump, Trump Jr.’s oldest child. In one photo, Ivanka and Kai Trump are seen paddleboarding together in the ocean.

Ivanka Trump wrote on the photo, “Best paddleboarding partner,” and Kai Trump reposted it on his account.

White House fighting arena surges as President Trump prepares for UFC cage match

0

play

WASHINGTON — It looks like a roller coaster soaring over the White House.

However, this is not a theme park.

The centerpiece of the temporary Ultimate Fighting Championship Arena on the South Lawn of the White House is the towering 90-foot outdoor structure that construction crews installed on May 25, shaping it to dramatically stand out from most views of the building.

Below the arc is a 5,000-seat arena and octagonal cage where UFC fighters are scheduled to compete on June 14th. The spectacle promises to be “the biggest event ever held at the White House” by President Donald Trump. The event coincides with the president’s 80th birthday and Flag Day.

Major renovations to the White House began last week in preparation for the UFC fight. President Trump said an additional 75,000 to 100,000 spectators will be able to watch the UFC event for free on large screens off the White House Ellipse. Trump met with UFC CEO Dana White, a close ally, on May 5 to discuss his plans.

Two construction cranes have been set up for President Trump’s massive ballroom construction on the east side of the White House campus, adding a temporary UFC arena to the suddenly crowded White House skyline.

The UFC’s efforts forced President Trump to suspend travel to and from the South Lawn on Marine One and instead rely on a motorcade to travel to and from Joint Base Andrews, where the president flies Air Force One.

The UFC bout comes as part of a year in which the regime celebrates the nation’s 250th anniversary. The UFC plans to cover the costs of hosting the tournament.

A mock-up of a UFC structure to be built at the White House was recently displayed in Lititz, Pennsylvania.

President Trump was joined at the White House on May 6 by UFC fighters Justin Gaethje and Ilya Topuria, who will compete in the headliner fight, as well as Alex Pereira and Cyril Gane, who will compete in one of the other seven bouts.

“These are real warriors,” President Trump said of UFC fighters. “When we talk about warriors, they are warriors.”

An avid sports fan, Trump often hosted boxing matches at his casino during his real estate days in the 1980s and 1990s, watching from ringside as the likes of Mike Tyson won their matches. In recent years, he has frequently participated in UFC fights, including one in Miami on April 11th.

Kyle Busch’s death was related to sepsis. What you need to know about causes and treatments

0

play

Kyle Busch died on May 21 at the age of 41 from pneumonia that progressed to sepsis, according to a statement released by the NASCAR legend’s family on Saturday, May 23.

The statement added that the progression resulted in “rapid and overwhelming associated complications” for the two-time Cup Series champion.

Here’s what you need to know about the condition.

What is sepsis?

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the immune system responds inappropriately to infection, damaging healthy tissues and organs, according to the Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic.

“Without emergency treatment, the disease develops rapidly and can lead to organ failure and death,” the Cleveland Clinic added. Dr. James Morrison, chair of the clinic’s Corporate Sepsis Steering Committee, previously told USA TODAY that sepsis is the “leading cause of in-hospital mortality.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sepsis affects at least 1.7 million adults each year in the United States alone and causes about 350,000 deaths.

What causes sepsis?

Sepsis develops when an infection triggers a harmful immune response. “Bacterial infections are one of the most common underlying causes,” said Morrison, who is also a critical care and emergency medicine physician, “but fungal, viral and parasitic infections can also cause sepsis.”

These infections can originate anywhere in the body, but most often occur in the lungs, urinary tract, skin and gastrointestinal system, he added. It can begin with a seemingly harmless illness, such as pneumonia, a urinary tract infection, or even a deep cut.

Sepsis treatment options

Parvesh Khatri, a professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, previously told USA TODAY that due to its severity, “sepsis needs to be treated as soon as possible.” The goals of treatment are to control the infection, stabilize the patient’s condition, and support the affected or failing organs.

To accomplish this, “treatment typically includes supportive care to manage symptoms, antibiotics to combat the underlying infection, and medications such as intravenous fluids and vasopressors to restore blood pressure,” Morrison explained. “In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove the source of infection.”

Early evaluation and treatment is important because sepsis progresses rapidly and prompt recognition and intervention can mean the difference between life and death. “Every hour that treatment is delayed increases the risk of death,” Khatri warned.

Missing Kentucky student’s body found after weeks of search

0

play

Authorities announced on May 24 that the body of a Northern Kentucky University student who had been missing for nearly a month was found in a wooded area near campus. Authorities said no foul play was suspected.

Marie Faust, 22, was last seen April 27 in the Latonia neighborhood of Covington, Kentucky, just south of Cincinnati, according to the Covington Police Department. Police issued an alert on April 30, asking for help in finding Faust.

Following Faust’s disappearance, local authorities launched an investigation and began searching for the student. Volunteer-based search organization EquuSearch Midwest, Boone County Water Rescue, Wilder Police Department and Northern Kentucky University assisted the Covington Police Department in the investigation, police said.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, part of the USA TODAY network, a private search group made up of Faust’s friends, relatives and local residents also carried out their own search efforts.

Covington police said in a May 24 statement that Faust’s body was found by an independent search group in nearby Wilder, Kentucky. Covington Police Department investigators were working with the Wilder Police Department and the Campbell County Coroner’s Office to investigate the scene.

Police said there was no sign of foul play. The coroner’s office will determine the cause and manner of death. Police said they would not release further details until the process is complete.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the Faust family and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the Covington Police Department said in a statement. “While we are saddened by this loss, we hope that this event provides some answers and some closure for the family.”

Authorities asked the public to allow investigators to continue their investigation, noting that Faust’s family is asking for “privacy as they grieve.”

Local authorities and independent groups launch weeks-long search for missing student

At the time of Faust’s disappearance, police appealed to the public for help after obtaining surveillance images that showed the clothes they were wearing before their disappearance.

“We are deeply concerned and our thoughts go out to their families, friends and everyone affected. The Covington Police Department is leading the investigation and we are fully cooperating and supporting their efforts,” Northern Kentucky University spokesperson Corey Best said in a statement at the time.

One of Faust’s friends, Charlie King, previously said in a Facebook post that Faust was on his way to campus on the night of April 27 from the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, just north of downtown Cincinnati.

“Marie never came to class and has been missing ever since,” King said in the post, adding that Faust’s car was found a block away from her Latonia apartment.

King said Faust’s bag was also at Northern Kentucky University, and police later found Faust’s cell phone during a search of Faust’s apartment.

Friends, family, and local community members rallied online and in person to share information, distribute images, and organize their own searches.

Faust is scheduled to graduate from Northern Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts on May 9, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, King said Faust is a transgender man in the early stages of transitioning.

Honoring Marie Faust with her family, friends, and Northern Kentucky University community.

Faust’s disappearance cast a shadow over Northern Kentucky University’s spring graduation ceremony, where a moment of silence was held in their honor earlier this month.

“Marie, I look forward to seeing you soon so I can give you the diploma you earned,” Northern Kentucky University President Diana McGill said at the ceremony, before the graduates crossed the stage.

Bee Wang, 25, previously told the Cincinnati Enquirer that she met Faust at a Transmask Cincy event late last summer and described them as “a light to the community.” After the event, the two spoke for hours in Wang’s car, and Wang told Faust that he wanted to carve out a queer future in religion.

Wang said Faust was attending a Spanish-speaking church at the time and was asking a lot of questions. The two had planned to do drugs and art together in their free time from studying, but the last time they met was at Faust’s senior art exhibition.

“I was so happy to find another queer person who was open and willing to talk deeply with me about spirituality,” Wang said.

After Faust’s body was discovered, his family thanked the local community for supporting them “through this difficult time”.

“Our hearts are broken and while this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we can only pray that the discovery brings closure and comfort to all those hurt,” the family said in a statement posted on May 25 on a Facebook page dedicated to the search effort.

The family has established an art scholarship fund to honor Faust’s “love of art,” adding that donations and proceeds from the sale of Faust’s work will go toward supporting other art students in the community.

Is taking a sabbatical a bad career change?

0

Question: I feel burnt out. My company is eligible for sabbatical leave, but I’m hesitant to take it. Between artificial intelligence and a brutal job market, I worry that if I give them a glimpse of life without me, they’ll realize they don’t need me. Is it a bad choice to take a vacation that feels earned, or should you continue to be as visible and essential as possible for now? – Lawrence

Answer: You hear this concern more often than you might think. Let’s start here: When your employer offers a sabbatical, it’s not a trap, it’s part of your compensation package. These programs are designed to retain top talent, not expose them. Don’t tell yourself not to take advantage of benefits to sustain you long-term.

Now, let’s address what’s real at the root of this: the fear of fungibility.

When you get burnt out and choose to push through just to get “attention,” you’re making short-term decisions that hurt your long-term performance. Burnout doesn’t make you indispensable. This results in decreased efficiency, decreased engagement, and ultimately decreased value.

Frankly, perception is important. If your boss or co-workers don’t fully understand your influence, your absence may raise questions. But it’s not a sabbatical issue. It’s a communication issue. And simply continuing for a long time will not solve the problem.

So instead of avoiding sabbaticals, approach them strategically.

Before you walk away, make sure the right people understand what you have to offer and how your work will impact the business. Coordinate with your supervisor on how to handle your responsibilities. Demonstrate ownership. Reinforce your worth. No need for excessive explanation.

Also, don’t think of a sabbatical as time away from your career. Think of it as time invested in it. Many professionals use sabbaticals to learn new skills, take courses, earn certifications, or work on projects they otherwise wouldn’t have time for. If you do it right, you won’t just come back rested, you’ll come back sharper and more valuable.

And this is the reality. If you take a sabbatical and your role no longer exists, the problem isn’t the vacation. It’s something deeper. Healthy organizations are built to function even when key people leave. That’s resilience. No organization should be so weak that it cannot tolerate temporary absences.

On the other hand, if you feel your role is truly at risk, that’s important information. But taking a sabbatical won’t solve the problem. It’s a signal to reevaluate your role, your influence, and even your organization itself.

Let’s try another hypothesis. Goals don’t have to be something you have to do every day. That’s not sustainable. The goal is to have a consistent impact and develop others so the team grows stronger, not weaker, in your absence.

So take a sabbatical. Plan well. Communicate clearly. Walk away with intention and come back prepared to perform at your best.

North Korea launches short-range ballistic missile, Seoul announces

0

SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korea launched multiple projectiles, including at least one short-range ballistic missile, off the country’s west coast on Tuesday, South Korea’s military said.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff announced in a statement that the missile was fired from near Cheongju, North Pyongan Province, North Korea, at around 1 p.m. (4 p.m. Japan time).

According to JCS, the missile flew about 80 kilometers. This equates to 49.7 miles.

The missile launch was the first known missile launch by North Korea since April 19, when the country tested several short-range ballistic missiles equipped with cluster munitions.

In early April, North Korea also announced it had tested a new cluster bomb warhead mounted on ballistic missiles and electromagnetic weapons, which analysts said was part of North Korea’s efforts to demonstrate its modern warfare capabilities.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said in March that his country’s status as a nuclear power was irreversible and that expanding its “self-defense nuclear deterrent” was essential to national security.

Despite U.N. sanctions on its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs since 2006, North Korea has accelerated efforts to build up its arsenal under Kim in recent years, drawing condemnation from South Korea, Japan and the United States.

At a press conference on Tuesday, South Korea’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson called on North Korea to respond to South Korea’s peace proposals and efforts to ease tensions.

The South Korean spokesperson said that while maintaining the goal of complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, South Korea will work closely with the international community to pursue a gradual and realistic approach to resolving the North Korean nuclear issue.
