Something you purchased has been recalled. What does that mean?
What happens if something you purchase is recalled? Is it voluntary or mandatory? And what does it mean for you?
A nationwide recall has been issued for several specialty beverage products sold under multiple brand names due to possible salmonella contamination.
SKS Copac has announced a recall of various powdered beverage and dessert mix products after learning that raw materials supplied by California Dairies may be contaminated, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notice released May 23.
The recalled products announced by SKS Copack on May 22 include products sold under the Angel Specialty Products, Royal Gold, Boba Time, Fanale and Denda brands. There are no reports of illness.
According to the FDA, these products may contain Salmonella bacteria, which can cause serious and even fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, the FDA says. In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and cause more severe illness.
Products were distributed through cafes, restaurants, and direct delivery in California, Utah, Idaho, New York, New Jersey, Arizona, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Texas, Ohio, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Washington, Oregon, Wisconsin, Nevada, Virginia, Connecticut, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Minnesota.
