Taylor’s family said in a statement shared by his fraternity that he was “a lot more than the creators of the content.”

The Zetafai branch of Alpha Kappasai, based at Austimpy State University, said Taylor is a member of the 2017 class.

The end of bail reform? Trump orders cash debt to arrested people

0

Trump has long criticised democratic cities and states, allowing defendants to release without posting cash, ensuring they will appear in court.

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump signed an executive order on August 25th, aimed to require criminal suspects to step on cash debts that will be released from prison during trial.

Trump’s mission is threatening to cancel federal funds for jurisdiction that allow suspects to release bonds without posting them. Another Trump order directs DC police to indict suspects for federal crimes and maintain federal custody to prevent bonds from being published without posting them.

“They kill people, they’re out,” Trump told reporters in the oval office. “We’re finishing it, but we’re finishing it in DC and we have the right to do it through federalization.”

Both orders are part of Trump’s focus on policing before the 2026 midterm elections. Trump’s administration has already begun policing instructions in DC, and he has denounced Democratic mayors and governors for crime policies in major cities in New York, Chicago and California.

Cashless bail is a system in which defendants are released from prison while awaiting trial on a promise to appear in court rather than paying certain cash.

Critics say it reduces the incentives for defendants to go to trial and puts public safety at risk by returning to the streets. However, supporters say many low-income people can’t afford to post bonds. They point to research that bail should be based on risk factors rather than wealth.

A 2023 survey in New York City concluded that a John Jay College of Criminal Justice study found that bail exclusion was “not related to felony re-arrests within two years or changes in rates of violent felony re-arrests.”

Similarly, a report analysing DC crimes from 2015 to 2019 concluded that bail reform “successfully released the defendant’s trial without sacrificing public safety and maintaining the appearance of the High Court.”

NAACP president Derrick Johnson said Trump’s order was to “put the poor into prisons and maximize the benefits of private prisons.”

“Trump doesn’t even have the authority to end cashless bail because it’s a local issue,” Johnson said.

Trump’s national order directs Attorney General Pam Bondy to submit a list of local and state jurisdictions with cashless bail policies and identify federal funds where it may “suspend or terminate.”

“To maintain order and public safety, individuals must be imprisoned with pending criminal charges or criminal history showing clear, continuing risks to society,” the order said.

The DC Order requires Bondi to identify potential actions, including restrictions on federal funds, services and approvals.

“The Colombian government’s pretrial announcement policy, including a ban on cash bail, contributes to the dishonest conditions referenced in the aforementioned executive order, as law enforcement must arrest the same individual multiple times and dangerous offenders must be released promptly from time to time,” the order said.

A case of human new world screwworms detected by us. What do you know?

0

play

Human cases of carnivorous screwworms have been detected in the US, linked to the latest outbreak of Central American parasites, officials say.

The patient recently returned to Maryland after a trip to El Salvador, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

On August 4, the Maryland Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified the parasite as a new world screwworm, but said it was linked to travel.

“The risk to public health in the United States from this referral is very low,” Nixon said.

While it is unlikely that you will get infected with parasites in the US, here is what you need to know about the New World screwworms.

What are the screwworms in the new world?

New World Screwworm Larvae feed live tissues and affect animals and livestock primarily. However, according to the CDC, humans can also invade larvae.

Flies were eradicated in the United States in the 1960s and in Mexico in the 1970s. However, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras have recently recorded cases despite the parasite being eradicated in Central America in the early 2000s.

Who will be most affected by the screwworms of the New World?

Travel-related cases of screwworms pose a low threat to US public health, with the government not seeing cases of screwworms invading animals in the US in 2025.

But the incident will shake cattle ranchers, beef producers and livestock traders who were already wary of potential screwworm invasions, according to Reuters.

The parasite then migrated from Central America to southern Mexico, raising concerns about potential invasions if the fly continued to move north.

The outbreak in the US will affect domestic cattle, increasing beef prices already at record highs.

Fighting the Screwworm

The USDA will build facilities in Texas, the largest state that produces cattle, producing infertile flies that will prevent the number of flies from increasing.

The department will spend up to $750 million on the facility, according to Reuters.

Texas ranchers are anticipating the return of parasites for the first time in decades.

How have screwworms been eradicated?

In the 20th century, the US excluded screwworms by flying planes over hot spots and dropping sterile fly boxes in hot pots.

How Russian drone attacks shaped the war in Ukraine: an illustrated guide

0

As Russian war machines advance in eastern Ukraine, another attack is taking place far beyond the front line. Russia has stepped up nightly drone attacks on Ukrainian cities and civil infrastructure, and its strikes have intensified as it rapidly increases production of those weapons.

While many drones are not particularly high-speed or high-tech, they are cheap enough for the Kremlin to launch more than 700 in one night, to help the Kremlin overpower the Ukrainian air force and destroy civilian morale, experts say.

After obtaining Iranian designs for Shahed Attack Drones, Russia built its own giant factory to stir up thousands of weapons each month. Its evolving tactics force Ukraine to fight back with more expensive ammunition and innovation.

The rapid rise in drone strikes shows how war evolved to rely on these unmanned, self-driving cars.

Ukraine and Russia have been driven to improve drone capabilities to compensate for the deficiencies in air force capabilities, a dynamic that does not apply to all Western countries. However, experts say the US and its European NATO allies are actively working to improve drone and counter-drone operations to maintain advantages in future conflicts.

“NATO will probably use drones on a large scale, not on the same scale as Russia or Ukraine, because we have these large air forces that we invested in.

Taiwan is already considering developing a number of cheap attack drones, Tollest said. Non-state actors and drug cartels around the world are also increasingly dependent on drones. “These will pose a major challenge to unprepared troops around the world,” he added.

This is how Russia’s drone campaign operates and how Ukraine is working to fight back.

Russia is heading towards producing more than 6,000 Shahed drones each month, the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Agency told CNN. And it is much cheaper to produce attack drones within Russia compared to the early days of the war, when Moscow was buying them from Tehran.

“In 2022, Russia paid an average of $200,000 for one such drone,” a Ukrainian defense source said. “In 2025, that number reached around $70,000,” said large-scale production at an Arab Gadrone factory in the Tatarstan region of Russia.

However, cost estimates vary widely. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a DC-based think tank, has found that Shahed-136 estimates range from $20,000 to $50,000 per drone. In comparison, a single surface-to-air missile interceptor can cost over $3 million.

This relatively low cost allows the Kremlin to bolster nightly drone attacks and carry out more frequent, large-scale attacks. In the early days of the war, major missile and drone salvos happened once a month. By mid-2025, they had on average occurring every eight days, according to a CSIS analysis.

For many civilians, the constant threat of drone attacks is horrifying.

The apartment has suffered major damage following the Russian drone strike in Odesa, Ukraine on July 24, 2025.

Kyiv resident Bohdana Zhupanyna was seriously pregnant in July when her family’s apartment disappeared due to a Russian drone strike.

“Because such stress during nine months of pregnancy is extremely dangerous,” Zhupanyna, who then safely rescued the baby, told CNN shortly after the strike. “I lost a lot in this damn war. My father was killed by the hands of the Russians, my apartment was destroyed by the hands of the Russians, and my mother was almost killed by the hands of the Russians.”

And while Russia uses long-range drones to attack Ukrainian cities hundreds of miles from the frontline, it explains that civilians living in cities near Russia-controlled areas are plagued by daily FPV drone attacks. Residents in the Kherson area previously told CNN that FPV drone attacks had been reported on pedestrians, cars, buses and even ambulances, and the target appears to be out of reach.

Russia has repeatedly denied targeting civilians despite substantial evidence of the opposition.

Yasir Atalan, a data fellow at CSIS, said the percentage of drones that hit targets has nearly doubled, with hit rates of nearly 20% since April being nearly 20% over 2024, with targets being under 10% in 2024. And in the analysis, the CSIS analyst wrote: “It doesn’t matter whether an individual Shahed hits the target. What’s important is the combined effects of terrorist weapons on civilians and the stress that it puts on air defense.”

Russia’s tactic is to “maintain constant pressure,” Atalan told CNN. “Their strategy is now increasingly focusing on this type of attrition.”

Ukraine also fought back with frontline FPV drones and used long-range drones to attack infrastructure and weapons facilities within Russia.

“For all technological developments, both parties are already looking for solutions. And because the innovation cycle is so fast, (a) the 2-3-week issue already shows (a) the adoption of technology breakthroughs.”

“So some of the approaches that may be effective right now may not be as effective in the coming months,” Stefanenko said.

Currently, both Ukraine and Russia are working on developing AI-powered drones that can not only create interceptor drones that can be deployed as a cheaper way to counter air attacks than launching missiles, according to ISW, but can also make their own decisions on the battlefield.

“There are many reports of Ukrainians testing some of these drones, but we haven’t seen them being deployed on a large scale,” Stepanenko said. “The development of interceptor drones will help unlock Ukrainian capabilities and help the Ukrainian forces maintain some of their (their) air defense missiles for missile strikes.”

France summons Ivanka Trump’s stepfather with anti-Semitism spat

Charles Kushner wrote an open letter asking French President Emmanuel Macron to ease criticism of Israel.

play

  • “The ambassador’s allegations are unacceptable,” the French Foreign Ministry said of the open letter released by Ivanka Trump’s stepfather, Charles Kushner.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Macron of contributing to anti-Semitism by seeking international recognition of the Palestinian state.

PARIS — France summoned the stepfather of US ambassador Charles Kushner-Ivanka Trump after writing to French President Emmanuel Macron, claiming it had failed to stop anti-Semitic violence against the French president, a spokesperson for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Kushner, a Jewish man and whose son is married to President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter, has published an open letter in the Wall Street Journal amid deep divisions between France, the United States and Israel.

In the letter, he said that the French government’s statement on its recognition of the Palestinian state promoted the French anti-Semitism incident, urging French President Macron to enforce hate crime laws more urgently and promote Israeli criticism.

“France learned of the US ambassador’s allegations, Charles Kushner, in a letter to the President of the Republic, expressed concern about the rise in anti-Semitism in France and stated that it was a suspicion of a lack of sufficient action by French authorities to fight them,” the ministry said on August 24.

“The ambassador’s claim is unacceptable,” the ministry said.

According to the Jerusalem Post, Kushner’s letter follows another letter sent by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Macron from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier this week, which accused Netanyahu of contributing to anti-Semitism.

Macron has emerged as one of the stronger critics of Netanyahu’s war prosecution in Gaza, particularly with regard to Palestinian civilian casualties, but Trump has a solid support for Israeli leaders.

“A public statement harns Israeli gestures towards acknowledging the explosive extremism, fuel violence and the danger of Jewish lives in France. In today’s world, anti-Zionism is anti-Semitic,” Kushner wrote.

Kushner’s son Jared Kushner is married to Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump, who converted to Judaism before his wedding in 2009.

Macron has publicly criticised opposition to French values and anti-Semitism as an increase in security in response to anti-Semitism incidents related to the Gaza conflict, in order to protect synagogues and other Jewish centres.

Latest roster news, rumors about all 32 teams

0

play

  • The NFL’s roster cut deadline is 4pm on Tuesday.
  • But the team isn’t waiting until the last minute, but some actions have already taken action over the weekend.
  • Some backup quarterbacks and previous high-draft picks could be on thin ice for each team’s final roster.

For many NFL teams, Tuesday’s roster cut deadline is perhaps the biggest hurdle left before regular season preparations begin in earnest. However, for hundreds of players, retraction can mark painful edges of the line.

Established starters and early draft picks are not afraid as the team usually sets the roster of the first 53, but the culmination of the preseason schedule inevitably leads to some disappointment and difficult decisions. Some long shot bids are officially over. However, those trying to rub a spot at the end of the roster have signed up for a temporary lifestyle, which may be the first or latest in a series of set folds. However, hope remains as the concept of finality through reduction will soon be wiped out by additional waiver movements, trades and training squad deals in the coming days, weeks and months.

With several teams making the cuts, check out all the latest on the prominent moves with the biggest roster moves on the USA Today Sports live blog.

Kenyon Green is not part of the Philadelphia Eagles’ coordinated offensive line after all.

According to CBS Sports, according to CBS Sports, the team was exempted just five months after being traded to the team by the Houston Texans in exchange for safety CJ Gardner-Johnson.

Greene, 24, was the Texans’ No. 15 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft for Texas A&M, but the 6-4, 323-pound blocker struggled during his tenure in Houston.

Eagles executive vice president and general manager Howie Roseman was busy over the weekend and rebuilt his offensive front backup and signed offensive tackle Fred Johnson on a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars while rebuiltting offensive front backups and sending offensive guard Daryan Kinnard to the Green Bay Packers.

The Miami Dolphins’ re-shuffle secondary will not provide support from the veteran added in late July.

The team is releasing Mike Hilton, the cornerback agent told ESPN.

The 31-year-old Hilton was signed to increase the depth of the slot after Kader Kohou, the sole return starter in the secondary, suffered from the anterior cruciate ligament in the cleft. A longtime standout for both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengal, he has garnered 13 interceptions over the past eight years, starting 56 games in between.

Fifth round rookie Jason Marshall Jr. could be lined up to take over the role of Nickel.

Offensive tackle Jalen McKenzie was also exempted, according to ESPN.

Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes don’t expect Detroit Lions players to continue the twist in the wind as their team plans to make the majority of the cut by day by the end of Monday.

“Tomorrow may be a couple that probably isn’t the last moment,” Campbell said Monday. “But it is, it is, it is – it is not easy about it, and there is nothing worse for them than us, meaning it is difficult for us, but I am not here.

The most closely monitored spot in Detroit is at the backup quarterback. There, Journeyman Kyle Allen appears to be leading Hendon Hooker, a 2023 third-round draft pick that struggled and modestly this summer. After the preseason finale, Campbell appeared to have kept the door open to the team moving in some way from Hooker.

“How much development do you think there will be?” Campbell said. “We’re talking about Hooker now, how much development do you think there are still? Do players need a change in the scenery from time to time?”

Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer created an upset he’s grateful for when bossman Jerry Jones suggested last week that the team could throw a curveball or two cut-down times.

“After playing on Friday, we’ll sit down and make some decisions about the entire roster,” Schottenheimer said last Monday. “There’s probably some surprises from some of the mocks out there in terms of, ‘Hey, I thought I was sure this guy was going to make it.’ ”

While there appears to be a lot of mystery to the team, which sat a huge number of starters and key contributors in the finale, 2023’s first round defensive tackle Matzi Smith fought amongst the running people. Schottenheimer said Saturday that the positions that will most trouble out Dallas decision makers are cornerbacks, wide receivers, linebackers and defensive sides.

However, it’s not surprising here. Offensive Tackle Rael Collins, the former offensive line link pin who signed with the team just this month, was cut down on Sunday following multiple reports.

Howie Roseman never puts at a key moment in roster building. This offensive mentality was fully on display this weekend as the Philadelphia Eagles executive vice president and general manager implemented numerous moves.

The most notable decision may be a reworking of his quarterback room. With backup Tanner McKee still on the sidelines with a finger injury, Roseman wielded the Minnesota Vikings and trade to win Sam Howell. It was bought on Kenny Pickett’s trade on Sunday, but led to the official ouster of Thompson Robinson, who appeared unlikely to stick after fighting for the fifth round rookie Kyle McCord and the estimated third job.

Shiro Sanders literally fought in Tampa. The Buccaneers on Sunday waived the safety of the undrafted rookie free agent from Colorado a day after Sanders was banished for throwing tight end Zach Davidson against the Buffalo Bills from Saturday’s preseason finale.

Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles made clear his stance on Sanders’ actions and called it “unforgivable” in his post-match remarks. But Bowles largely complements his young defensive back, leaving the question of whether he could return to the Bucs practice squad if he wasn’t charged.

“Shiro is very aggressive, very young and very hungry,” Bowles said last week. “He can play on the box, run away and give 100% to a special team.”

The Cleveland Browns are never short of quarterback news.

On Sunday, the team announced that it had released Tyler Huntley along with three other veterans and 17 abandoned players.

However, it appears that the Browns will maintain their quarterback quartet — starter Joe Fraco, veteran Kenny Pickett and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Chedure Sanders — are on a 53-man roster, with general manager Andrew Berry showing the same during the finale against the Ross Angeles Rams in his team’s preseason finale.

“To be honest, that’s not a big decision for us,” Berry told Chris Rose and Joe Thomas on the Browns broadcast, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Linebacker Jamin Davis’ attempt to revive his NFL career was another scratch. Washington Commander’s first round pick for 2021 was released by the Jets on Sunday.

Davis, who re-signed New York in March after being argued for the exemption by his team last December, failed to latch Aaron Glenn and Co. despite some promising flashes of light in the summer.

The Jets also abandoned six other players on Sunday: QB Adrian Martinez, De Michael Fletcher, OT Liam Forandel, Te Zack Kuntz, DB Tanner McCalister and RB Lawrance Toafili. Six more were abandoned Saturday: CB Mario Goodrich, OT Samuel Jackson, TE Neil Johnson, WR Demare Miller, DT Fatruma Malba and WR Ontarian “Porky” Wilson.

The Atlanta Falcons have said goodbye to 12 players, including players that may come as a surprise to many.

Defensive lineman Morgan Fox was released on Saturday despite $3 million guaranteed on a two-year deal he signed with the team this offseason.

Count the Los Angeles Rams among teams that don’t wait until Tuesday and begin the cut.

Sunday’s team announced they have released linebacker Tony Fields II and abandoned the other 10.

By 4pm on Tuesday, August 26th, all 32 teams will need to reduce their active roster to 53 players. However, the official words of some teams’ movements may not come until a while later.

NFL teams will need to insist on abandoned players as part of a league-wide roster cut until noon on Wednesday, August 27th. Once these claims are resolved, the club will begin filling out the training squad.

Man detained in France after four bodies found on the Seine River in Paris

Paris
–

The French man was taken into custody on suspicion of murder after four bodies were found on the Seine River in Paris earlier this month.

The suspect, described by prosecutors as “homeless man in his 20s,” was brought to court on Sunday, Kraiteuille’s Office said in a statement to CNN.

He is being investigated for “multiple number of murders” in regards to the four casualties, according to the prosecutor’s office.

On August 13, the bodies of four men were found in Paris municipality in Choisysyrouis in various disassembly conditions.

According to public broadcaster Frenchford, the alarm was raised after seeing passengers on the train floating in the water overlooking the river.

The body of one man, later identified as a 48-year-old French citizen, was recovered in a “relatively unharmed” state, the Kraiteuille prosecutor’s office said. An autopsy revealed injuries suggesting he was strangled. He was found wearing a T-shirt, but was naked from his waist.

The other bodies found were in “a very advanced state of decomposition,” which made it difficult to determine the cause of their death, prosecutors said.

The second body of the 21-year-old Algerian national showed injuries consistent with strangulation. He was reported missing by his relatives the week before his body was discovered.

The other two victims were identified as homeless men who regularly visited areas near where their bodies were found. Neither of these have been heard since late July. One of the men was a 21-year-old Algerian national and the other was a 26-year-old Tunisian national, the Cretir prosecutor’s office said.

According to prosecutors, investigators were unable to establish whether all four of them knew each other, but they were all linked to the area where their bodies were found.

The area is frequented by homeless people and is “known as a place for casual same-sex encounters,” the prosecutor said.

After reviewing CCTV footage and analysing phone data, investigators focused on the suspect, and “usually existed” in the area, prosecutors continued.

Before the body was found, he was arrested while in possession of documents belonging to one of the victims. He was also stopped by a police officer the day the body was first discovered, and a week later he was taken into custody.

Investigators were able to confirm the suspect’s relationship with the victim at one time with the loss of anapled at the same time,” the prosecutor’s office said.

The suspect refused to answer questions about the crime he was accused of, and gave a simple answer only when asked about something else, according to the Creteil Prosecutor’s office.

The crime investigation will continue, the office said.

Trump’s executive order gives one year prison conditions for burning flags

Attorney General Pam Bondy said the goal of prosecuting people for burning flags could be achieved without violating the First Amendment.

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has signed an August 25th executive order, calling for people who burn flags to be fined, but courts have long upheld the practice as a legitimate expression under the First Amendment.

The order aims to prosecute people who burn flags related to other violence, such as inciting riots, Trump said.

“If you burn the flag, you’re in prison for a year,” Trump said. “You can see the flag burning quickly stop.”

The First Amendment protects speech and peaceful protests. The Supreme Court in 1989 ruled in a 5-4 decision that burning the flag itself was a form of political expression and not illegal.

Attorney General Pam Bondy said Trump’s goal of prosecuting flags without violating the High Court’s decision could be achieved.

“We do that without violating the First Amendment,” Bondy said.

Trump’s order comes in the nation’s 250 year celebrationth My birthday is July 4th, 2026. Trump mentioned that he is seeking a penalty for burning the flag while visiting Fort Bragg, North Carolina on June 10th as part of the 250th anniversary of the US Army.

“People who burn the American flag should go to prison for a year. That’s what they should do, a year,” Trump said after occasional violent protests in Los Angeles over immigration enforcement.

Trump has previously sought a one-year fine for the flag ceremony, including a rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, during the June 2020 presidential election. He was photographed holding the flag at a conservative political action meeting in March 2019.

Flags may be burned during protests in front of the White House, including in 2019.

School 2025: Sugar restrictions, vaccine opt-out, DEI changes

The new USDA Sugar Rules, vaccine opt-out, and DEI policy changes returned to school in 2025.

For many school districts, it wasn’t a very quiet summer.

Uncertainty about the future of federal grants has made it difficult for supervisors and school boards to prepare budgets. Students and teachers were deported or faced threats of removal from the country. And the ghost of the government’s investigations came to an abundance as the Trump administration cracked down on schools with policies and diversity programs, including LGBTQ.

Yvonne Johnson, president of the National Association of Parent Teachers, said all of these changes are concerned with many parents about what this year could bring.

Have those concerns. It is important to remember that public K-12 schools where most children in America are educated are primarily run at the local and state level. Property taxes and councils provide most of the money they rely on (though the funding formula can vary widely from school to school).

On average, districts only get about 1/10 of their annual budget from the federal government. The federal government has no role in setting curricula in the classroom (despite some politicians want to hint).

Still, the federal government has many powers that affect the lives of students. Set nutrition guidelines, protect students with disabilities, and give school extra money along with the lowest-income students.

With millions of kids returning to classrooms this month, here are four important issues to keep an eye on.

New nutritional standards are in effect

More controversial policy changes have caught many headlines over the summer, but there are also the much-anticipated reforms, including the new school lunch standards already in effect in July.

In 2024, the USDA finalized regulations to limit the amount of sugar added to grains, yogurt and milk. By the fall of 2027, these restrictions will be more severe and include more reductions in sodium.

But by then, parents may have greater concerns, nutrition advocates warn. The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” provision will reduce funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, which will come into effect that year and change the responsibility to fund many of the programs to the state.

These cuts ultimately reduce access to free school lunches, according to an analysis by the left-leaning think tank, the Urban Institute. (Participation in the Universal Meal program at many schools is associated with the number of students whose households are photographing beneficiaries.)

Republicans argue that snap cuts will ultimately force more parents into the workforce, preventing unnecessary government deployments and benefit grocery stores.

School Nutrition Association spokesman Diane Platt Hebner said she is worried that in the coming years a significant group of students in need of food will not be able to get it.

But the concerns are for “down the road, not the season to return to school.”

Parents opt out of forced vaccines

For religious or philosophical reasons, children are exempt from receiving the mandatory vaccinations before returning to school this year.

From 2024 to 2025, over 5% of kindergarten children in 17 states advocated for non-medical vaccine exemptions. As non-medical exemptions rise nationwide, vaccine rates among kindergarten children are steadily declining.

From 2019-20, only states reported that under 90% of kindergarten children were vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella. Last year, that figure rose to 16 states.

In these states, health professionals say it makes it easier for lawmakers to vaccinate children who have promoted exemption rates. Dr. Philip Juan, director of the Dallas County Health and Human Services, said the decline in vaccination rates was also due to misinformation about vaccines on social media and mixed messages from federal health officials regarding vaccine recommendations.

Health experts worry that this trend may promote the outbreak of vaccine-preventable diseases among children this fall.

“That’s been very concerning and I’ve had more and more discussions with my family,” said Dr. Sapnasin, Chief Medical Officer at Texas Children’s Pedia Trick.

Schools struggle with day duty

Since President Donald Trump reclaimed the White House in January, he has made it clear that his administration has a zero-tolerance attitude towards diversity, equity, inclusion, or Day. Although the acronym has become blurred due to politicization, it usually refers to school programs aimed at eliminating racial and socioeconomic disparities on school campuses.

In March, the US Department of Education gave the state and local districts the ultimate. Remove the DEI program. Federal officials either claim they violated the anti-discrimination law or risk losing their funds. At the time, the Trump administration said it only lasted two weeks for school leaders to follow.

Many state leaders have found that they are already following civil rights laws, and court documents show that they have been strongly counterattacking the administration’s claims about their qualifications as “illegal DEI practices.”

“There are no federal or state laws that prohibit the DEI principles,” wrote Dan Morton Bentley, the top official in the New York State Department of Education.

Despite the Trump administration’s demands, “no changes to existing school practices or programs are expected,” the Utah Board of Education said.

On August 14, a federal judge ruled that the Department of Education’s anti-DEI duties were illegal. He was blocked since April.

President’s Fitness Test: Is it coming?

On July 31, the president signed an executive order to revive the president’s fitness test.

For over half a century, the test, which previously included a mile of running, push-ups, abs and other types of physical tasks, was managed at school gyms across the country. Former President Barack Obama replaced it with a holistic youth health program in 2012.

It is not yet clear what the latest version of the test will look like, or specifically, to return to school.

According to Trump’s order, the test will be developed by the Department of Health and Human Services and the new Presidential Council, with support from the education sector deployed.

“Sex Section” Management: How Good Sex is Satisfied in a Long-Term Relationship

0

Ian Kerner is a licensed marriage and family therapist, author and CNN contributor on gender and relationships. His latest book is a guide for couples.

Almost every day I meet couples in long-term relationships and lament the loss of missing the early days of great sex.

“What’s wrong?” They ask each other and me. “How do you start having great sex again?”

For some, searching for “great” sex is a reason to cheat, open a marriage, or even divorce. But before taking drastic steps to pursue great sex, I always beg couples to reconstruct their “sexuality” and instead seek “sufficient sex.”

Originally coined by sex therapists Michael Metz and Barry McCarthy, the term encourages couples to pursue positive and realistic meanings in their intimate lives. In other words, just because you can’t go back to the early days of hot and heavy, doesn’t mean you can’t have a good sex life 2.0, if not the same as version 1.0.

“We are a great source of research and research into the world,” said Justin Lee Miller, a senior research fellow at the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University. “But good sex is fun and satisfying sex without the expectation or demand that it will be perfect every time, as it is rarely perfect. It’s a way to get closer to sex with realistic expectations.”

As a couple, life is filled with plenty of stressors, sex should not be an additional source of pressure. Rebecca Sokol, a sex therapist based in New York, adds that some people often have “misconceptions about what makes sex so great.” “They’re going to work hard on this amazing sex idea rather than getting pleasure from the sex that’s in front of them,” Sokol said. “We often need to learn what we bring from films and porn, and instead embrace and enjoy what real sex looks like. ”

Here’s what you need to know about good sex:

Predictable sex is the best. why? You can be more comfortable, relaxed and enjoy yourself. One way to keep things predictable? Add sex to your calendar.

“We know that many benefits of a healthy sex life (personal satisfaction, a greater sense of life in a relationship) start when couples have more meaning when couples have sex once a week to encourage couples who have sex.

Sex schedules don’t make it sexy, but it’s more likely that it will happen.

“To prioritize calendar intimacy, as we plan what’s most important, helps prevent it from falling to the bottom of the to-do list. Expectations can also build excitement,” noted Dr. Rachel Needle, a community member at the Modern Sexual Therapy Institute in Florida.

Small acts of affection, such as holding hands, checking in with each other, sharing laughs, nurture an overall connection that promotes sexual desire, Needle told me. She suggested encouraging intimacy and relaxation during your scheduled rendezvous by organizing your bedroom, lighting candles, playing soft music, and checking in for yourself how you feel.

Communication is important and it’s not just about having fun. Great communication with your partner before, during and after sex is important.

“Communicate in advance about your desires and needs, communicate about how you feel good and what you don’t care,” Lehmiller said.

You can also create a “sexy time menu” and place anything that brings fulfillment and joy to you and your partner, giving you a fun spin on your sex talk. You can then select from the menu to select it. I know that no matter what I do, I will leave my fulfilled experience.

Good sex is related not only to the body but also to the brain

It’s true: the brain is truly our biggest sex organ – and foreplay begins in the mind. Share fantasy with your partner, read erotica with each other, and watch ethical porn together. You get ideas.

“Couples who have a lot of sex use their imagination to fantasize and otherwise maintain erotic perspectives during sex,” Sokol said. “They learn to eroticize their partners and themselves at the moment, so they can move into an erotic state.”

“The only biggest complaint for older people about sex life is that ‘old ways don’t work anymore,'” Lehmiller said. “What are the fun and possible changes over time? But that doesn’t mean that sex has to get that good.”

That doesn’t mean you have to calm down. Instead of continuing to get closer to sex as you did when you were younger, start adapting sex to a place in your life. If you are creative, ambitious and open to exploring, sex can become more and more in your senior year, especially if you are already used to your partner. Learn what you find fun and ask what you want.

When you remove expectations about what sex should be, you can turn it into what you want. “Gender” does not need to be synonymous with “sex.” Whatever the shape, adequate sex is based on pleasure, not performance.

“If joy is the goal of a sexual encounter, performance anxiety tends to decrease and the chances of playfulness increase,” Dillon said. “Try to get closer to intimacy with the idea of, ‘Are you enjoying this now?’ “How about?” As long as you both enjoy this experience, you’ve had quite a bit of sex. ”

So the next time you worry about your sex life getting old or not being able to accommodate the early days of your relationship, stop focusing on what sex isn’t and start thinking about what it is. It makes it great.

After working as a teacher for 20 years, she longed for peace and quiet. Amelia Butler of the United States says buying an Italian bargain home gave it to her.

The 57-year-old now spends half of the year in Latronico, a rural village in the deep southern region of Basilicata, Italy, and the rest in her hometown of Philadelphia.

It loves the remoteness of an idyllic village surrounded by mountains, and ultimately says that it “relaxes and enjoys life and people.”

“I love the beauty of the country. I love walking a lot of villages and country roads. It’s very calm,” Butler, who currently works as a life and education consultant, tells CNN.

Kilmer Abrego Garcia is again taken into custody by US immigrants

Maryland residents, whose illegal deportation spurred protests against Trump’s administration plans, spurred protests to send immigrants to Salvador’s mega prison.

Kilmer Abrego Garcia, 30, reported to the Baltimore immigration and customs enforcement scene three days after being released from criminal custody in Tennessee, and returned to his Maryland home. He spent more than five months in detention, including his home country of El Salvador, in a prison known for its tough circumstances.

Abrego Garcia arrives at the ice office with his wife and brothers and is quickly surrounded by a crowd of supporters chanting “si se puede” for “Yes, we are yes.” He and his wife hugged the building in the lobby before proceeding through the security checkpoint.

His lawyer, Simon Sandoval Moshenberg, said his client was taken into custody at the time of reporting the interview. According to his lawyers, US officials have offered to expel him to Costa Rica if he pleaded guilty to transporting immigrants who live illegally to the United States.

Abrego Garcia pleaded not guilty. His lawyers say they took part in government and judicial debates to avoid deportation to Uganda.

Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem has denounced the “activist freedom judge” who hampered administrative efforts to rule out people living in the United States suspected of committing a crime.

“By ordering this monster to be loosened in American cities, this judge shows that he is completely ignoring the safety of Americans,” Noem said. “We will not stop fighting until this Salvadoran man faces justice and leaves our country.”

Abrego Garcia, a sheet metal worker living outside of Washington, DC, has become the face of President Donald Trump’s radical and controversial deportation tactics. Abrego Garcia entered the country illegally around 2012 as a teenager. Immigration officers issued a final removal order in 2019, but they said he could not release him to his native Salvador due to credible fears of persecution by the country’s gangs.

De Minimis Exception is expected to end this week and hike low-cost imports

0

play

The prices of imported low-cost goods could rise soon as they expire this week, a trade loophole that allows many retailers to avoid hiking customs for President Donald Trump.

The exception that applies to items shipped to the US and worth less than $800 will end on Friday, August 29th, following the president’s executive order in late July, effectively bringing all countries’ “minimum trade agreements” to a sunset. In 2024, the minimum shipment was valued at over $1.36 billion, according to US Customs and Border Protection.

This means that consumers may be seeing higher costs and supply disruptions as the Trump administration effectively terminates its tax-free program across the board.

In preparation for the change, Reuters reports that postal groups from several European counties have announced that they will suspend standard parcel shipments to the US Austrian postal service.

“This tightening poses a major challenge for all postal companies around the world when sending goods to the US,” the Austrian Post Office said.

Here’s what you need to know about the exceptions to DE Minimis and how its ending affects consumers:

What are the exceptions to de minimis?

The De Minimis exemption refers to section 321 of the Customs Act of 1930. This allows the Treasury Secretary to waive any obligation or fees that are inconvenient to collect taxes rather than the income is worth it. In fact, this policy allowed businesses to ship low value packages without US tariffs. The Trump administration said customs and border patrols will process the minimum shipments of more than 4 million people every day before an executive order ending the exemption.

The exception has been the fore and backwards over the past few months between the Trump administration and China, resulting in an early speed bump. Originally scheduled to close in February, it was postponed after packages began to stack up without time to plan and execute policy changes.

The August 29 deadline will be closed months after the loophole was closed due to imports on May 2nd, especially from China and Hong Kong. More than half of all packages, including the De Minimis exemption, come from China, and more than 30% of all daily packages shipped under De Minimis are from Temu and Shein, Reuters reported in February.

Two popular online retailers sell a wide range of products, including clothing and linen, toys, household items and electronics. Over the past few years, both retailers have been popular in the US. This is thanks to the minimal exemption that helps businesses keep prices low.

Data collected by consulting firm Bain & Company on a per-Reuters show that since Trump announced significant trade tariffs, both Temu and Shein have experienced a sharp decline in sales growth and customer growth rates. Simeon Gutman, an equity analyst at Morgan Stanley, also saw a significant decline in involvement with Temu in May Note, said Simeon Gutman of Molgan Stanley Equity Analyst.

How will the end of De Minimis affect consumers?

With the end of the exception, only a few days apart due to imports from all other countries, the same impact that Shane and Tem wrestled with could soon clash with other low-value goods retailers.

Ernie Tedesci, director of economics at Yale Budget Lab, said the end of the deminisi could affect imported health and beauty items, apparel, household items, and a variety of bespoke or boutique items.

“For consumers who shop at many big name brand stores like Target, Walmart, and Costco, this has nothing to do with them,” Tedeski said. “These stores are already experiencing increased tariffs and should be incorporated into those prices at this time.”

However, according to Tedeski, shoppers can get confused about availability or stock before they notice price increases. He put the administration on hold on orders after more than a million packages were stacked at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, pointing to a package stake as Trump was first trying to end the exemption.

“It’s not clear to me that the administration has yet to resolve the issue,” Tedeski said. “That all means that the first effect consumers are seeing may not be price increases. At least at first, there are no products previously included from De Minimis at all.”

US stock futures are low as investors are looking for huge Nvidia revenues to chip for their next move.

Nvidia’s revenue is scheduled for August 27th after the market closed. According to data company LSEG, Nvidia is expected to increase earnings per share by 48% with revenue of $45.9 billion in the second quarter.

Dell and Marvell quarterly results are scheduled for the next day.

At the end of the week, investors look at the July Personal Consumption Expense Price Index, the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge. Core PCE is expected to rise 2.9% year-on-year, compared to June’s 2.8% increase, excluding volatile foods and energy prices.

At 7:56am on ET, futures tied to the Blue Chip Dow fell to 0.21% (95 points) to 45,620.00, while the Broad S&P 500 futures slipped to 0.22% (14.5 points) 6,468.75, while the high-tech heavy NASDAQ Futures lost 0.29%, or 69.25 points. The benchmark’s 10-year financial yield rose to 4.287%.

Despite the expected increase in inflation, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell last week suggested that they may be ready to support interest rate cuts soon. These comments brought stocks together, closing the Dow at a record high.

Lower fees reduce the cost of borrowing. This should spur business investments and consumer spending to lift the economy.

Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and Joe Flacco are running out of time

0

play

Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Hurts, Matthew Stafford, Russell Wilson and Joe Flaco are the only predicted Week 1 start quarterbacks to start the Super Bowl and win. However, this season could mark the final four of the three as QB1.

Rodgers had already predicted during the offseason, but this is probably his final year.

“I’m sure this is (my last season),” Rodgers appeared on June 24th’s “Pat McAfee Show.” NFL? ”

The Pittsburgh Steelers are their third team in four years and offer Rodgers the best opportunity to return to the postseason. After all, Mike Tomlin led the Steelers to a victory record as head coach in each of his 18 seasons, marking the longest winning streak in NFL history to begin his head coaching tenure. Pittsburgh reached the playoffs in 2-Straight 2-Straight without Rodgers.

Flacco is in his second stint with the Cleveland Browns. He is part of a notorious group of 40 quarterbacks that have started for the Browns since 1999.

Cleveland’s decision to start Flacco Week 1 is understandable given that five of the Browns’ first six opponents made the playoffs last year. However, if the Browns don’t give Dilongabriel or Shedale Sanders a shot before the 2026 NFL Draft, where the franchise has two first-round selections, that would be a quarterback management cheating. That said, based on the history of Browns QB, it’s difficult to pass them.

At the Big Apple, Giants coach Brian Daball declared Wilson the starter. But Wilson, who is on his third team for many seasons, appears to be spending his time borrowed, especially after the Giants’ first-round pick Jackson Dart completed 32 passes for 32 yards for 372 yards and three touchdowns before the season.

“Whenever my number is called, I’m going out there and playing the game and playing the ball. That’s my way of thinking whenever I touch the field,” Dirt said after the Giants’ preseason finale. “Obviously, Russ is a starter. He’s going to do great things. He has great camp and played at an elite level. My job is to be the best teammate and be ready at any time.”

Daboll registered a record of 18-32-1 in three seasons as Giants coach. His work situation may be conditional on the development of dirt. Nevertheless, it is difficult to carry out a comprehensive evaluation of DART while he has the clipboard on the sidelines.

“We’re planning our days with our young quarterbacks, we learn something every day,” said Dart after the Giants’ third preseason contest. “Try doing something that might come out with him one day. We’ll continue to build him… I think he did a good job and praised the players more than anything else. Being a rookie quarterback is not easy. Being a quarterback is not easy. He still knows there is a lot to work on, but he’s progressing every day. I’m glad I drafted him. I’m glad he’s our man. ”

Daboll’s words are that it’s only a matter of time before Dart becomes the starter of the team.

Rodgers (41), Flacco (40) and Wilson (36) all signed a one-year deal for their teams. Maybe the three of them had a foresightful 2025, it was their last chance to become QB1. Rodgers has already declared it likely was his last season in the NFL. For Flacco and Wilson, this year has a pretty good chance of becoming a starting quarterback.

Russia is trying to expand its military presence in Africa with another paramilitary organization

0

Nigeria, Abuja
–

Wagner is a Russian mercenary group that is likely to be a Russian mercenary group famously for carrying out a failed rebellion against Moscow and being accused of committing serious abuse against African civilians, and has been replaced by another Russian paramilitary continent.

Its successor is Kremlin-Controlled Africa Corps.

For many years, funded by the Russian government and praised for “Commander and Hero” by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2023, Wagner has embodied Moscow’s military offerings in the Sahel, a semi-arid region of western and northern central Africa, ranging from Senegal to Sudan.

With Wagner’s exit from Swas in an area plagued by coups, armed rebellions and militant rebellions, the Kremlin appears to want a dominated, but informal army to replace it.

At the 2023 Russia-Africa Summit, President Putin revealed that the Kremlin had “concluded military technical cooperation agreements with more than 40 African countries, supplying a wide range of weapons and equipment.”

The Kremlin has met some degree of vacuum left by Western troops exiled by several governments in the Sahel between 2022 and this year.

Protesters have banner readings

From wars in the Middle East and Ukraine to tensions with China, Russia has become the sought after security partner in the Sahel both inside and outside the Sahel as the West has largely focused on the focus elsewhere.

In parts of the area, such as Mali, where Wagner maintained some of the worst known losses, it was reported that he was killed in a rebel ambush a year ago, so that the army joined local troops in combat with the rebels.

Wagner’s successor is not self-execution. Unlike the mercenary groups, paramilitary African forces are under the umbrella of the Russian Ministry of Defense, according to the Group’s official telegram channel.

The corps consists of elite Russian combat commanders. The “priority” recruitment was also given to current and former Wagner fighters, a post from the African Squad Telegram Channel, revealed in January 2024.

The African Corps operatives then joined the battlefield and conducted joint operations with Mali’s forces against militia groups.

Wagner announced in June that he would leave Mali, one of the Sahel’s troubled countries.

A similar exit by Wagner is being discussed in the Central African Republic (CAR), the neural center of African groups.

Wagner has been operating in automobiles since 2018 and has become the dominant force in Central African countries following the final exit of the French army in 2022. It is widely believed in cars for helping the country cause collapse.

But earlier this month, CAR military officials told The Associated Press that Russia’s Ministry of Defence had asked domestic authorities to replace the African Corps Wagner and pay its services in cash.

Protecting the president, suppressing reclaimed territory seized by rebel forces, “it is done in a very hidden and modest way,” Opposition MP Martin Ziguele, who served as prime minister from 2001 to 2003, told CNN from 2003 to 2003.

As a result, it is not clear how Wagner’s services will be paid. Still, previous CNN surveys found that companies associated with former Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin had won concessions to mine cars gold and diamonds, which are extremely poor, according to a 2023 World Bank assessment.

Prigozin was killed in a plane crash in the northwest of Moscow in August 2023, two months after launching a failed rebellion against Russian military leaders.

The 2024 photo shows a bronze statue depicting Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin (L) and Commander Dmitry Utkin.

Neither the government’s spokesman nor the Minister of Motor Vehicle Defense or Communications responded to CNN’s request for comments about planned pivots to the African Corps. CNN also has not responded from Russian authorities.

Communications Minister Maxime Balalou told CNN in January that the bilateral defense agreement “allowed Russia to provide weapons” and “to handle and train defense and security forces, and (and) support the ground forces.”

Other parts of the African Corps have already arrived in other parts of Africa. According to the African Squadron telegram channel, it operates in West African countries Niger and Burkina Faso, both governed by Juntas.

Colonel Ibrahim Traore, a supporter of the government leader, waving the Russian flag in the city of Ougadugou in Burkina Faso on October 2, 2022.

According to a Reuters report late last year, it is unclear whether the legions are functioning in Equatorial Guinea, Central Africa, which hosts an estimated 200 Russian military instructors. Equatorial Guinea has had the same ruler for 46 years.

Russia’s move to replace Wagner in Africa could be a “strategic rebrand by Moscow,” according to Heni Nsaibia, senior analyst at the Crisis Monitoring Group and senior analyst at the Place & Events Data Project of Armed Conflict (Ecled).

“After the rebellion and Prigodzine’s death, Wagner’s name was so badly damaged, so Russia is likely consolidating foreign military ventures under formal state control by erasing the “Wagner” brand, while maintaining its core function with new names like the African Corps,” Nsaibia said in a written response to CNN.

“In this way, Moscow can maintain a strong presence in the region while still keeping a distance from the mercenary stories,” he added.

Institutionalizing military involvement in Africa could benefit the Kremlin in other ways, Nsaibia said.

“The African Corps aims to provide Moscow with greater control over its operations, with potentially less international legitimacy and legal and reputational risk,” explained Nsaibia.

Wagner is facing lawsuits from human rights groups over accusations of human rights abuses.

The European Union approved the Wagner Group and its associated individuals and entities in 2021 and 2023. Some of those approved in 2023 are involved in “the head of the Wagner group in Mali where Wagner mercenaries are involved in violence and multiple human rights abuses,” and multiple human rights abuses, including a variety of outstanding members, including members of various glory of the EU.

UN experts also called for an independent investigation into alleged crimes committed by the Wagner Group and the Mali army in 2023.

Their statement said, “the lack of transparency and ambiguity in the legal status of the Wagner Group… creates an overall climate and complete immunity of fear for victims of Wagner Group’s abuse.”

Mali authorities opposed the allegations, saying the country was “unshakable to prosecute and punish perpetrators who have been proven human rights violations.”

While many questions remain about Wagner’s operations in Africa, there are various views on the continent’s impact of counterterrorism operations with local troops.

“I don’t know what Wagner brought to the fight (against terrorists),” said Mamaduazid, a security consultant.

“Since they (the Wagner army) took part in the battle, jihadists have spread along with many civilian casualties in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger,” Aj, a retired Senegalese colonel who previously served in Mali and Burkina Faso under the Brock Ecowas in the West Africa region, told CNN.

Regarding Wagner’s replacement, which was replaced by African forces in certain countries, “I don’t think it has changed much on the battlefield,” Adme said.

In Nsaibia’s view, Wagner helped Mali’s military “achievement a tactical and strategic victory, especially the recapture of the rebel bases.”

Nevertheless, he said the group left “on the brink of collapse.”

People will walk through the weekly market at M'berra Camp in Basikonow on June 7, 2022. The Mauritania camp is one of the largest in West Africa and hosts refugees fleeing violence in Mali.

Earlier this month, a UN representative told the Security Council that security across the Sahel is “fastly worsening,” and that terrorist activities in parts of the region have increased “size, complexity and refinement” “including increased conspiracy with drones, alternative internet communications and multinational organized crime.”

Ahunna Eziakonwa, Director-General of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), warns that global support is needed as Sahel’s security issues are “over the capabilities of the central government.”

But what’s important is that help from outside actors is “good intentional.” She told CNN, adding, “No matter where it comes from, it doesn’t promote support on the military or security side that undermine human rights.”

Daily Briefing: Classroom Changes

0

good morning!🙋🏼‍♀️I’m Nicole Forelt. Welcome to the special daily briefing back to the school version. 🎒

But first: Monday news now

When kids return to school, there may be a lot of changes waiting for them.

American students may be tied to their backpacks for the first time in Monday months as the new school year begins. However, many students may return to a changed academic landscape. Uncertainty about the future of federal grants has made it difficult for supervisors and school boards to increase their budgets.
