US stock futures after Trump fired Lisa Culinary Governor

play

U.S. stock futures are low after President Donald Trump fired Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook and said he filed fraudulent mortgage applications.

“I have determined that there is a good reason to remove you from your position,” Trump wrote in a letter to the food posted on social media.

Cook replied that Trump had no authority to fire her and said he would not resign.

At 6:15am on ET, futures tied to the Blue Chip Dow fell -0.14%, while the Broad S&P 500 futures slipped -0.08%, while the Tech-heavy Nasdaq futures lost -0.06%.

The firing is Trump’s latest attack on Fed members. For months he again suggested on and off, firing Fed Chairman Jerome Powell or resigning him.

Since the Fed was founded in 1913, the Fed’s seven governor’s committee members have never been fired by the president before. The legality of Trump’s move is controversial, and if Cook challenges the fire, it could end up in court.

Trump care?

“If the president succeeds, the outcome will be important,” said Michael Ferroli, chief economist at JP Morgan.

The removal of Cook opens another location to the Fed Committee to fill the way Trump wants and give appointees a majority. Trump recently appointed Economic Advisors Council Chairman Stephen Milan to fill the seats vacant with the resignation of President Joe Biden’s appointee Adriana Coogler. GED Goverors Christopher Waller and Michelle Bowman are Trump’s appointees.

Powell’s term expired in May, and Trump is already beginning to come up with the names of candidates.

“The more relevant consequence of successful removal of cooks is that other governors could also be exposed to removal,” Ferroli said. “This is the opposite risk of inflation.”

University scrambling to respond to dema active shooter reports

0

Active Shooter reports that the University of Tennessee, Villanova University, the University of South Carolina and the University of Arkansas have recently appeared. Reports cause resources of fear and wastedness.

play

When students from at least five colleges across the United States were supposed to be preparing for the first day of class, they were running, hiding and barricaded for reporting on active shooters.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on August 21 and Villanova University on August 24, attacked the University of South Carolina.

They turned out to be hoaxes, but such reports usually terrorize students and their parents, waste millions of dollars of initial response resources. On August 25th, the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, is also considering active shooter alerts that could prove falsehood.

Gary Cordner, former police chief and professor of police research who updates the Arizona State University’s Issues Oriented Police Center’s Guide to Misuse and Abuse at 911, said people reporting fear and panic just like that.

“The term active shooter probably only induces fear as much as you could think of,” he said. “So, until you can completely wipe out one of them, it certainly induces a lot of fear.”

And with actual active shooters attacking in the US from time to time, universities and police departments have no choice but to deploy all the resources available.

“It cannot be ignored. It cannot be dismissed just because the outcome can be very disastrous,” Cordner said. “The university campus, they’re very big and there are a lot of buildings, so it’s a big job to check it out just to decide that nothing’s going on.”

In the wake of last week’s panic on university campus, USA Today is looking at the common hoaxes that cause mass panic, why it happens, what is happening, what can be done.

What is swatting? How much is the problem?

Hoaxes have plagued the country for many years, including schools, grocery stores, office buildings, and airports. Also known as swatting, false reports of serious crimes are intended to cause a heavy response by law enforcement.

“This is a big problem,” said Elizabeth Jaff, an associate professor at John Marshall Law School in Atlanta, which said it was cyberbullying and social media. “If you have hundreds and thousands because one incident is a big problem, it’s an evolving trend.”

According to the Prevention Prevention League, the estimated swatting incidents jumped from 400 in 2011 to over 1,000 in 2019.

In January 2023 to June 2024 alone, more than 800 instances were recorded in primary, middle and high schools in the US, according to the K-12 school shooting database created by doctoral students at the University of Central Florida in response to the 2018 Parkland High School shooting.

The FBI has been aware of the issue since at least 2008, according to a release from the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division.

Who is swatting?

Swatting was popular even if it was popular as a potentially deadly hoax among gamers in the early 2000s, according to researchers from the Prevention League. Since then, it has become a tool for everyone, from planksters to online extremists, according to Carla Hill, senior director of research in the Prevention League.

“Previously someone would pull the fire alarm because they didn’t want to go to school. Now they slam the school,” Hill said.

“They get the thrill from that,” Jaffe said.

Hill, who has also worked to track swatters, played the role of instruments in the FBI investigation of Swatter’s rings, which targeted Jewish and minority agencies in 2023.

Hill said the group was fortunate enough to boast about their online exploits. According to the FBI, the group targeted at least 25 synagogues in 13 states.

However, law enforcement can be difficult to track down unless the swatter uses his or publicly speaks about it. “There are many ways to do that without being traceable,” Hill said.

Why are you having such a big problem?

Not only does the hoax disrupt schools and businesses, it also drains police, fire and EMS resources that compete on the scene.

“We have to treat each of them as authentic until we know it’s a hoax,” Kelly Smith, a former assistant special agent in the FBI’s Seattle office, said in an agency video on the issue. “We are leading law enforcement resources away from other active investigations, which puts a great strain on the resources of both our agencies and our local police department.”

David Riedman, data scientist and creator of the K-12 School Shooting Database, estimates that in 2023 it will cost police $82,300,000 to respond to false threats.

And, in addition to the fear that swatting can cause, it can win innocent bystanders in dangerous situations. According to a report by Harvard Crimson, four Harvard undergraduate students were detained at gunpoint in a 2023 attack at Ivy League Schools.

And some cases of swatting have become fatal. Tyler Barris, a gamer with a history of demacalls in connection with Andrew Finch’s shooting death in Wichita, Kansas in 2017, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, according to a report by NBC News. Finch was shot and killed by police in response to a swatting call made by Barris. Finch, who had no idea about Barris, lived at the address that Barris believed there was a target.

What can you do about swatting?

Experts agree that stronger laws, stricter penalties and better techniques to track swatters are needed.

“It’s often this kind of thing with technology. We need to catch up,” Hill said, adding that some states have strong protections. “You need to get some laws in your book.”

John DeCarlo, a former police chief who responded to the hoax and now a professor at Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences at New Haven University, said one major step is to deal with the FBI treating it as a federal crime, but he agreed that technology is a major hurdle as stolen goods can mask the voice.

For example, earlier this year, a 18-year-old Southern California man from Southern California, who said prosecutors made more than 375 swatting and threat calls between August 2022 and January 2024, including reports of mass shootings, was sentenced to four years in prison.

DeCarlo said he is hoping for more swatting incidents similar to the past week as authorities will scramble to track down the swatters.

“The fact is, in this way, all demacoles divert officers from real emergency and real risks, and that’s the real tragedy,” he said. “We’ll take public protection where we need it.”

Jaeju, a “Korean Hawaii” issue guidelines aimed at malfunctioning foreign visitors

0

Seoul, Korea
–

Often called “Korean Hawaii,” Jeju Island has issued a multilingual guide warning international visitors to act according to a series of viral tourism incidents and examples of disorderly conduct.

Last year, more 13 million people have been seduced by the island and is famous for its shining blue seas, green tea fields, snow-covered shield volcanoes and Harasan. In fact, according to the International Air Transport Association’s 2024 World Air Transport Statistics Report, Seoul from Seoul to Jeju is currently the busiest flight route in the world, travelling for 1 hour and 15 minutes between the island and the South Korean capital last year.

Since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual total of foreign tourists visiting Jeju Island has almost quadrupled to 1.9 million in 2024, according to the Jeju Tourism Association.

In response to its growth and the difficulties that come with it, Korean “Magic Island” staff printed 8,000 guides.

Written in Korean, English and Chinese, the guide is intended to notify foreign visitors who may lack knowledge of local regulations and culture, officials say.

For example, smoking in unspecified areas, jaywalking, scattering, and damaging the environment could result in a fine of 50,000 krw ($35.77) each.

“A violation of the above-mentioned offences shall also be punished by imprisonment or minor fines for a misdemeanor,” the guide warns.

Following the post-covid boom, Jeju residents began complaining about the misdeeds committed by foreign tourists as planes and cruises brought more tourists to the island’s provinces.

For example, a video showing foreign tourists smoking on a jeju bus went viral online in April, spurring anger among Korean commenters.

“I’m going to expel that person and get a fine now. If you don’t pay the fine, please prohibit purchasing tickets,” he commented under the Instagram video.

“Isn’t this basically ignored our country?” another wrote.

Screenshots of a multilingual guide published by Jeju Police.

Photos of foreign children who defecated on the sidewalk at jeju also stirred up rage online last summer, with many seeking heavy fines from international tourists.

Jeju Island is one of several spots in the region following the pandemic. South Korea’s historic village of Bukong Hanok introduced strict curfews last year for non-residents following complaints from locals about noise levels.

Over the years, Japan has issued warnings by handing out etiquette guides to foreign tourists due to cultural failure. Last year, the historic Zeon district of Kyoto took action against foreign tourists who reportedly ignored rules in prohibited areas and took photos of geisha. Bali, Indonesia’s most popular tourist island, has been tackling the problem of bad tourist behavior for many years.

Meanwhile, in Europe, debate exploded over the pitfalls of the vast debate. In countries like Spain, Greece and Italy, locals have taken them to the city to protest.

Images of local residents shooting pistols with tourists last summer were circulating around the world. The same thing happened this year, when protesters were taking them to the streets of Spain and Italy, including Venice, but in Paris, Louvre staff took a voluntary strike in response to what they felt were an unruly crowd.

Ruben Santopietro, CEO of Visit Italy, a marketing company for various destinations across the country, says respecting the goodwill of its residents is just as important as working on the crowd.

“Cities where residents are not satisfied are cities that do not work,” he told CNN in a recent interview. “It completely loses its identity. Residents feel excluded and the neighborhood becomes touristy.”

Trump DOJ’s official reverses false election claims made as host of Fox News

0

In court depositions, Janine Piro said Smartmatic didn’t abolish Biden’s election despite allegations on air by her and other Fox News hosts.

play

WASHINGTON – A prominent Fox News host, a friend of President Donald Trump and now the Chief Justice Department of Justice, Janine Neu Piro has repeatedly tried to support Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election by claiming widespread voting machine fraud.

However, newly filed court documents allege that Pillo later believed there had been no fraud or failure of the voting machine, and that he admitted during the court’s oath deposition that Trump lost in her own words, believing that he was “fair and free.”

The document was filed on August 19 by lawyers for Smartmatic Voting Technology Company as part of a continuing $2.7 billion delinquent litigation against Fox, originally filed in February 2021.

Smartmatic’s Lawswuit alleges that Fox News’ Pirro and others misinformed Smartmatic in a structured plot to steal elections from Trump.

That claim was exposed by numerous investigations, including US cybersecurity and infrastructure security agencies. This said in a November 2020 statement that “there is no evidence that the voting system has been deleted or lost, a change in vote, or in any way violated.”

Pillo was confirmed as a US lawyer for the District of Columbia on August 2nd, and is currently ordering one of the nation’s largest federal prosecutors and Investigation Bureaus.

The job of a US lawyer generally does not involve election issues, but the office led the prosecution of Trump supporters who attacked the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, overturned Biden’s victory and made efforts to hold Trump in office. After taking office, Trump forgives the majority of those defendants and notifies others of sentences.

In Smartmatic’s “An indisputable Statement of Material Facts,” Smartmatic quotes Pirro in one of two depositions in November and December 2023, “We believe that Smartmatic will not show that it is engaged in the matter.”

This is a major shift from Pilro’s claims on November 21, 2020 “Judge Janaine” show, explaining the cases that Trump’s lawyers have been laid out. You can reverse the vote. ”

“You work for people.”

Many Fox News on-air personalities, including Pirro, have repeated the falsehood of “stolen elections” even after what people inside and outside Fox News were either false or at best unproven, wise attorney J. Erik Connolly and other lawyers said in new submissions. The quotes include Maria Bartilomo, Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and Jesse Watters.

However, legal analysts say Piro’s comments in her deposition show a level of partisan level and willingness to mislead the public who should be disqualified from holding such a top position in the DOJ.

“If you’re in the Justice Department, you’re working for people, and your job is to manage the laws of the country, and it’s very hard to trust that the people who Trump has taken power are doing that.”

That’s especially true of Pilro, Gilbert told USA Today:

Pirro oversees a wide range of lawsuits, including white-collar crimes, civil rights violations and terrorism, drug trafficking and cross-border threats, and more recently, charges stemming from Trump’s federal agents and the surge in National Guard forces to Washington, D.C.

Pilro’s career as a judge, district attorney

Pillo served 15 years in Westchester County, New York before being elected judge at Westchester County Courthouse. She spent 12 years as an elected Westchester district attorney.

A spokesman for Fox News will not respond beyond the company’s statement regarding the latest court application. This “shows evidence that Smartmatic’s business and reputation potentially false claims have been made. The statement also said that Smartmatic “severely inflated its claims of damage in order to generate headlines and make freedom of speech cold.”

Fox News said that in the legal response, what was important in the honor loss case was not what Pirro now believes, but her state of mind in November 2020.

Fox’s own incontroversial facts statement said that if they didn’t think they had the truth after the 2020 election, they would have “before they would have been involved in the debate” of the Trump campaign’s election and fuel allegations.

Pirro’s DOJ office and the White House did not respond to requests for comment on the new court documents.

But before confirming the senator last month, White House spokesman Harrison Fields defended Piro’s qualifications, saying, “A very respected and skilled lawyer and judge Judge Janine is dedicated to President Trump’s agenda to restore the security and justice of our country’s capital.

Smartmatic declined to comment specifically on Pirro.

More widely, the company said in a statement, “Fox executives and their character have consistently lied to viewers. When they were willing to destroy Smartmatic’s reputation, they knew what they were saying was not true, but when they were making their vows they admitted they knew much better.”

The parties are seeking the case to a judge or to resolve it quickly.

Smartmatic’s ongoing case relies on evidence similar to the lawsuit brought by the Dominion voting system, which Fox settled in 2023 for $787.5 million. However, the new tranche of the 468-page unedited document filed in the New York Supreme Court provides more detailed details as it includes a newly unedited version of previously released court filings.

“Reckless Mania”

Smartmatic’s lawyers allege that when Trump fought to take office after losing the November 2024 election, Piro would use her show to promote unfounded allegations that Dominion and its competitor Smartmatic conspired to rig the election against Trump.

Many of Piro’s comments advanced the false theory that machines created by Dominion are being used to overturn Trump-for-Biden’s votes. Her use of the Fox News Show became very concerned as she questioned the legitimacy of the 2020 election, and the network cancelled one of her episodes out of fears she might say, Smartmatic claims.

Pirro was warned against making such claims by Jerry Andrews, executive producer of Fox News Live Weekend Primetime in late 2020.

“We should be very careful about these things and protect ourselves given the ongoing appeal of evidence that hasn’t happened (about the election being stolen),” Andrews told her in one email from the November 3rd election. “You (Pirlo) need to be very careful.

Pirro responded by saying he had spoken with Suzanne Scott, CEO of Fox News Media. “I know how to handle it,” she told the producer, Smartmatic said.

Nevertheless, some of the claims of election fraud have allegedly claimed Pirro’s draft accusations against her show. This was still airing during the opening monologue on November 14th, when Fox’s news “Brainroom” was found to be “wrong.”

In another email cited in the court application, Andrews called him a “reckless maniac” because he aired false claims about the stolen election, despite being told he was wrong about the election that had Pillo stolen.

Pirro’ doesn’t think Smartmatic was equipped with elections

Overall, Pillo was abdicated twice in 2023 by SmartMatic and once by Dominion.

A Connolly spokesman said that the wise deposit has been compiled and a lawsuit is underway to determine what will be published.

However, the new filing includes those snippets, detailing Pirro’s private beliefs.

“Jeanine Jeanine Justice Host Jeanine Pirro doesn’t believe Smartmatic either equips the 2020 election or conspires with Dominion to rig the 2020 election,” the court filed on August 19th.

“She doesn’t think that fraud is lying, lying, change is lying, or lying overseas. Even now, years after her publication, “I believe that Smartmatic doesn’t show that she’s involved in the matter,” the court filing says.

Pillo also admitted to receiving information from Dominion exposes election fraud claims before it can be found. We have confirmed that there are no extensive voting operations from the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). And after confirming that election fraud claims are false from Fox News’ “Brainroom,” Smartmatic says it cites Pirro’s own depository in a recent, unedited submission.

“Despite what she and others said on her show, “Pirlo believes that the 2020 election is ‘fair and free’,” Smartmatic said.

When AI Data Center reaches space limit: New NVIDIA fix

0

When AI data centers run out of space, they face expensive dilemma. Find ways to build larger facilities or to seamlessly coordinate multiple locations. Nvidia’s latest Spectrum-XGS Ethernet technology promises to solve this challenge by connecting AI data centers across vast distances to what we call “Giga-Scale AI Superfactories.”

Announced ahead of Hot Chips 2025, this networking innovation represents the company’s answer to a growing problem that forces them to rethink how computational power is distributed across the AI industry.

Problem: If one building is not enough

As artificial intelligence models become more refined and demanding, they need huge computing power, which often exceeds what a single facility can offer. Traditional AI data centers face constraints in power capacity, physical space and cooling capacity.

If a company needs more processing power, it usually requires building a whole new facility, but networking limitations make it a problem to coordinate work between different locations. This issue lies in standard Ethernet infrastructure. This suffers from high latency, unpredictable performance fluctuations (called “jitter”), and inconsistent data transfer rates when connecting far away locations.

These problems make it difficult for AI systems to efficiently distribute complex calculations to multiple sites.

Nvidia’s Solution: Scale Across Technology

Spectrum-XGS Ethernet introduces NVIDIA’s third approach to AI computing that complements existing “scaling up” (making individual processors more powerful) and “scaling out” (addition of processors in the same location) strategies, something that introduces the “scale across” feature.

The technology is integrated into Nvidia’s existing Spectrum-X Ethernet platform and includes several important innovations.

  • Distance Adaptive Algorithm Automatically adjust network behavior based on physical distance between facilities
  • Advanced congestion control This prevents data bottlenecks during long distance transmissions
  • Precision latency management Ensures predictable response times
  • End-to-end telemetry Real-time network monitoring and optimization

According to an announcement from Nvidia, these improvements can “almost double the performance of the NVIDIA Collective Communications Library.”

Real-world implementation

CoreWeave, a cloud infrastructure company specializing in GPU accelerated computing, is set to become one of the first adopters of Spectrum-XGS Ethernet.

“NVIDIA Spectrum-XGS allows you to connect your data center to a single, unified supercomputer, allowing customers to access gigascale AI that accelerates breakthroughs across all industries.”

This deployment serves as a practical test case for whether a technology can provide its promise on real terms.

Industry context and meaning

The announcement follows a series of networking-centric releases from Nvidia, including the original Spectrum-X platform and the Quantum-X Silicon Photonics switch. This pattern suggests that the company recognizes Networking Infrastructure as a key bottleneck in AI development.

“The AI Industrial Revolution is here, and AI factories on a massive scale are key infrastructure,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia in a press release. Huang’s characterization reflects Nvidia’s marketing perspective, but the fundamental challenge he describes – the need for more computing power, is recognized across the AI industry.

This technology can affect how AI data centers plan and operate. Instead of building a large single facility that burdens local electricity grids and real estate markets, businesses could distribute infrastructure to multiple small locations while maintaining performance levels.

Technical considerations and limitations

However, several factors can affect the actual effectiveness of Spectrum-XGS Ethernet. Network performance over long distances is subject to physical limitations, such as the speed of light and the quality of the underlying Internet infrastructure between locations. The success of a technology depends heavily on how well it works within these constraints.

Furthermore, the complexity of managing distributed AI data centers is that beyond networking, it includes data synchronization, fault tolerance, and regulatory compliance across different jurisdictions.

Availability and market impact

Nvidia says Spectrum-XGS Ethernet is “now available” as part of the Spectrum-X platform, but it has not revealed pricing and timelines for specific deployments. Technology adoption rates can depend on cost-effectiveness compared to alternative approaches, such as building larger single-site facilities or using existing networking solutions.

The bottom line for consumers and businesses is: If NVIDIA’s technology works as promised, it could potentially reduce AI services, more powerful applications, and potentially cost as businesses gain efficiency through distributed computing. However, if this technology cannot be delivered on real terms, AI companies will continue to face the expensive choice between building a larger single facility or accepting performance compromises.

Future deployments of CoreWeave will serve as the first major test of whether connecting AI data centers across distances will really work at scale. The results could determine whether other companies are aligning or sticking with the traditional approach. For now, Nvidia offers an ambitious vision, but the AI industry is still waiting to see if reality aligns with promises.

Australia expels Iran’s ambassador after spying agencies discovers that Iran has led an anti-Semitic attack on its soil

Brisbane, Australia
–

Australia is banishing Iran’s ambassador to Canberra after discovering that Iran is behind at least two anti-Semitic attacks on Australian soil.

Australia’s Security Intelligence Agency (ASIO) linked Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Security Force (IRGC). The two arson attacks last year targeted Jewish-owned restaurants in Sydney and the Adas Islamic Synagogue in Melbourne, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told a news conference.

“These were amazing and dangerous acts of aggression organized by foreigners in Australian soil,” Albanese said.

Iranian ambassador Ahmad Sadegi and three other diplomatic staff were given seven days to leave the country, Albanese said. This is the first time Australia has expelled a foreign ambassador since World War II.

Australia has also suspended operations at Iranian embassies for the safety of consul officials, urging Iranian Australians to leave the country.

Iranian Embassy in Canberra on August 26th, 2025.

Albanese said he believes that Iran’s IRGC (the elite wing of the Iranian army) has been contributing to the projecting of Iranian power by funding militias across the Middle East, opposing them from their homes. He is also listed as a terrorist. The US moved to declare a terrorist group in 2019.

“I’ve said many times that Australians want two things. They want the killings in the Middle East to stop. They don’t want conflict in the Middle East to come here. Iran is trying to do just that,” added Albanese.

“They tried to hurt and terrify Jewish Australians and soothe hatred and division in our community,” he said.

ASIO Director Mike Burgess said the anti-Semitic attacks in Australia were overseen by the IRGC and carried out by intermediary “layer cake.”

“This was overseen by the IRGC through a series of overseas cutout facilitators to coordinators who found a way to fall into Australia,” he said.

The two attacks linked to Iran by ASIO included an arson attack in October 2024 at Lewis’ Continental Kitchen near Bondi Beach, Sydney.

The second attack came against the Adas Isla El Synagogue in Melbourne last December. At that time, two masked assailants were seen throwing liquids into the premises.

Victoria’s counterterrorism investigators have charged two men with the adas synagogue attack. The most recent arrest was made last week. Police alleged that the three broke into the venue of worship and deliberately set fire to the fire.

Visitors will read a message attached to a fence with flowers left behind at the Adas Isla El Synagogue on December 9, 2024, on the outskirts of Melbourne, outside Ripponley.

Anti-Semitist attacks in Australia have skyrocketed since the start of Israel’s retaliation for the attacks across Hamas’ border on October 7, 2023.

“The ASIO is still investigating the possibility of Iran’s involvement in many other attacks. But I would like to emphasize that the administration is not responsible for any acts of Australia’s anti-Semitism,” Burgess said.

Australia’s Home Minister Tony Burke called Iran’s actions an “extraordinary attack” and reached “new, completely unacceptable low.”

“Australia was attacked and Australia was harmed,” Burke said.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong urged Australians to leave Iran, saying the government’s ability to protect them is “very limited.”

“I recommend Australians who may be considering a trip to Iran. Don’t. Our message is, if you are an Iranian Australian, leave now if it’s safe to do so,” she said.

There have been no official comments yet from the Iranian government, but Iranian media quickly condemned Canberra’s claims about the state’s involvement in the attack. Fars News Agency, a state affiliated with the state, said Australia had filed “unfounded allegations,” while the para-specialist Tasnim News Agency said the Iranian ambassador was being expelled under “false pretenses.”

The Iranian embassy in Canberra did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment.

The cracker barrel wakes up. Please give the steak ‘n shake instead.

As Cracker Barrel’s shareholders have learned, progressives fighting the growing pro-American atmosphere pay a large price.

play

When Blonde Blue Jean-covered Sidney Sweeney recently sent liberals into the heat with an American Eagle ad, it was a clue that American corporate branding was doing a massive reboot. Other clues have also been omitted.

In March, the Steak’N Shake Restaurant chain embraced the crowd at Make American Healthy Again. Technology leaders like Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg have overtures that have attracted attention on President Donald Trump and his MAGA supporters.

However, not all businesses have returned since they woke up. A favorite of road-tired interstate travelers for decades, Cracker Barrel ditched its old-fashioned logo on August 19th to support the “cleaner” design. The new logo erases a grandpa leaning against a wooden barrel image that customers have associated with the restaurant since 1977.

Now, the company endures extraordinary backlash, including Rvial Restaurant Chain Steak ‘n Shake and political leadership politics.

Even Democrats are knocking on cracker barrels

Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donald posted about his disappointment with the company’s management at X. “In college, I worked at @crackerbarrel in Tallahassee. I brought Christ to life in the car park. Their logo was iconic and their unique restaurant was an fixture of American culture.

Even the Democratic social media team has branded the restaurant and put their thumbs down. “I think I’ll smoke the cracker barrel brand too.” The post included an image of Norman Rockwell’s “free speech” painting.

You know that when your pivot to “modernism” loses Democrats, you made the wrong move.

The decision of corporate leaders to tear their country’s roots comes at a high cost. Cracker Barrel’s stock price plunged $94 million within days of the logo’s release, and the company lost more than 10% of its value.

Steak’N Shake bit his rival on social media to abandon history and American values.

Steak’n Shake’s comments are particularly interesting as they received intense criticism for using beef tallow in what was perceived as a nod to Trump and the “Maga Embrace.”

Patriotism is a good thing, and brands know it

The repulsion against the cracker barrel brand makes sense in the context. The company is seen moving in the same direction as leftists who were furious about Sweeney’s jean ads. And they are both heading in the opposite direction of the over 77 million Americans who voted for Trump.

Patriotism is making a comeback along with respect for tradition. That trend may even reach the Smithsonian Society museum.

On August 12, the White House announced that the Trump administration will review the Smithsonian to “confirm American exceptionalism, remove any divisive or partisan narratives, and ensure alignment with the president’s instructions to restore confidence in shared cultural institutions.”

When we lived in the Washington, DC area, I often took my kids to the Smithsonian museum. However, some of the museums featured exhibits that highlighted negative aspects of American history without highlighting the extraordinary strengths and achievements of our country. What if our own museum is not a pro-American?

Opinion warning: Get columns from your favorite columnists and expert analysis of top issues delivered directly to your device via the USA Today app. Do you have an app? Download it for free from the App Store.

Smithsonian’s reviews resemble the changes seen in marketing for major brands and the drawbacks from diversity, equity and inclusive ideology by universities and employers. Americans say they are well told about themselves and their country because of the power that makes them feel sick.

As Cracker Barrel’s shareholders have learned, progressives fighting the growing pro-American atmosphere pay a large price.

Gorsuch warns judges not to “ignor” the Supreme Court decision

0

In the same ruling that prompted complaints about Gorsuch’s lower court judges, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson accused him of “this administration will always win.”

play

WASHINGTON – As lower court judges apply Supreme Court decisions to Trump administration disputes, some justice doesn’t think they’re doing it right – and potentially intentionally do so.

“Lower court judges may oppose this court decision, but they will never be free to oppose it,” Supreme Court Judge Neil Gorsuch warned recently in a particularly pointed statement made by Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

His comments came as part of the court’s decision on August 21, so the administration can now cancel. It communicates Health Research Grants, also known as DEI, that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion-promoting.

Gorsuch wrote that a federal judge who blocked cancellation of the DEI grant while the case was filing a lawsuit should know he cannot do that.

That’s because the Supreme Court in April said these issues belong to another court that handles disputes in government contracts.

Gorsuch then called the teacher training grant in question, “substantially identical” to the research grant awarded by the National Institute of Health.

However, Chief John Roberts said the two cases were different, along with the justice of the three Liberal Party in the court, and the district judge’s order was valid.

Amy Connie Barrett weighs

Judge Amy Coney Barrett said some of the cases could remain judges, but the rest belong to the federal court of claims, stressing that the judicial authorities themselves cannot agree to the approach.

Steve Vladeck, a law professor at Georgetown University and an expert on “emergency facilities” at the High Court, writes that the court is entrusting the actual issue with a thin ruling on emergency appeals and expects “to read their minds in the face of a completely reasonable debate to distinguish between previous awards.”

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson made a similar point when she wrote separately to complain that the court’s previous “half paragraph of reasoning” in her colleague’s grant case was sufficient to support the administration’s “an abrupt cancellation of hundreds of millions of dollars allocated to support life-saving biomedical research.”

Jackson also sharpened previous concerns that the courts are showing priority treatment of the government, along with their willingness to take away lower court judges.

“This is Calvin Ball jurisprudence with a twist,” Jackson wrote, referring to the Calvin and Hobbes make-up game on comic strips. “There’s only one rule in Calvinball. There’s no fixed rule. There seem to be two rules. One of them, and this administration always wins.”

Richard M. Lee, a professor at the University of Virginia School of Law, believes that both Gorsuch and Jackson are too fast to claim maliciousness. Gorsuch on behalf of some of her colleagues, and on behalf of the lower court judge and Jackson.

The fractured nature of the vote in the NIH grant case is written in Substack, indicating that “important legal issues were difficult and perhaps uncertain.”

Cambodian lawmakers pass bills to revoke citizenship that critics call oppressive

0

Phnom Penh, Cambodia
AP
–

Cambodian lawmakers on Monday approved a bill that grants the government the power to revoke citizenship of those who find themselves committed crimes of conspiring with foreigners to harm the national interests.

The Nationality Act amendments, which were approved by all 120 members of the 120 existing parliament, are viewed by critics as a way to curb and control internal dissent against Prime Minister Hun Mane and political opponents of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party.

Prior to Sunday’s vote, the 50 Cambodian non-governmental organisations issued a statement saying they were deeply concerned by the “blushes” content of a bill that would allow the government to strip Cambodians of their citizenship. They argue that it will “have a disastrously calm effect on the freedom of speech of all Cambodian citizens.”

“This new amendment to the Nationality Act puts all Cambodians at risk of losing our identity in our behaviorism. If we are stripped of our citizenship, we will lose the foundation of all rights in our home country,” the statement said.

Before it becomes law, the bill must be approved by Cambodian Senate and King Norodom Sihamoni, head of state. Although Cambodia is officially a democratic, Hun Mane’s Cambodian People’s Party holds 120 of the 125 seats in the Diet, controlling all the levers of the government.

The passage of legislation comes during a period of growing nationalism among Cambodians following the border dispute with neighboring Thailand, which fell into a five-day armed conflict in late July.

Cambodian Home Minister Sal Soka told lawmakers that the latest in the law is essential to raising strong feelings among Cambodians.

He suggested that a small group of Cambodians were commenting and acting in ways that are detrimental to the interests of the nation and national security. Appealing to the sentiment of nationalists, he said that “we should no longer qualify as Cambodian citizens” with those who directly or indirectly harm the nation and its people.

This law applies to lifelong Cambodian citizens, people with double Cambodian citizenship, and people from other countries who have been granted Cambodian citizenship.

Some prominent government critics and opposition politicians are known to have double citizenship. Hun Mane and his father Hun Sen resigned as prime minister in 2023 after 38 years of power and have often seen opposition through court cases.

The Cambodian National Rescue Party, the country’s leading opposition, was disbanded by court order in 2017 after accusing Hun Sen’s government of supporting foreign forces and trying to defeat it. Kem Soka, the party leader at the time, was arrested and later convicted of treason after being accused of conspiring with the United States.

Many countries have laws that allow citizenship to be revoked, but often on narrowly defined grounds.

Speaking to villagers and government officials in northern Kampong Thom province in July, Hun Mane argued that out of nearly 200 UN member states, 150 have laws allowing citizenship revocation, including the United States.

“Don’t worry if you are a patriot and you will not oppose the interests of the nation. But if you conspired with foreign forces to destroy Cambodia, yes, you need to worry, and in such cases, you are not Cambodian,” Hun Mane said. “True patriots will not conspire with foreign forces to destroy their nation.”

Britney Spears on why Sam Asgari’s marriage was a “fake distraction”

The love stories of Britney Spears and Sam Asgari didn’t go far, but that’s because of the best.

The Grammy-winning pop star split from the actor in August 2023 after a year of marriage, giving fans a glimpse into the emotional background of his marriage relationship with an outspoken Instagram post on August 24th.

Spears, who met Asghari on the set of the “Slumber Party” music video in 2016, suggested that the couple’s short-lived marriage could be a coping strategy amid alienation of their sons Sean Preston and Jayden (Spears’ children moved to Hawaii along with their father Kevin Federline).

“We are very fragile and human. The most difficult year of my life was what my two sons did for the last three years,” wrote Spears in the caption in the post, according to People Magazine and Entertainment Tonight. “I’ve disconnected from phone calls and text messages.”

Spears and Asgari got married in June 2022 after a four-year date and tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony at Spears’ home in Thousand Oaks, California, TMZ reported at the time. Famous guests include Paris Hilton, Madonna, Serena Gomez, Drew Barrymore and photos of the event.

“I remember in shock, the secret of my survival was denial and many tears,” Spears, 43, said on Instagram, ET with People. “Me and Sam were married, and it felt almost like a fake distraction to help me deal with it…”

Asghari, 31, filed a petition in August 2023 to break up his 14-month marriage with Spears. “We hold on to the love and respect we have for each other. I hope she is always the best,” Asgari wrote in his Instagram story.

In response to the divorce news, the “Baby One Time” singer said in her own Instagram post that she was “a little shocked” by the couple’s split, but added, “I’m not here because honestly, it’s not because of anyone’s business!!!”

Spears previously married Federline from 2004 to 2007 and childhood friend Jason Alexander, who married in Las Vegas for 55 hours in 2004.

Britney Spears, son Jaden, reunites after alienation

In the fall of 2024, Spear and his son Jaden reunited in an estranged relationship. Sources familiar with the situation were not permitted to publicly confirm with USA Today after it was revealed that the Motherson pair had spent time together at their Los Angeles home.

The 2022 Daily Mail Story and ITV Video Interview detailed the rift between the spear and her child after the end of the pop star’s 13-year parent in November 2021.

Her father, Jamie Spears, managed the parents and was the subject of intense fan backlash at the time. Jaden Federline told the outlet that the public was not fair to his grandfather and that his mother gave priority treatment over his brother, Sean Preston.

Spears responded to his son’s Instagram comment, “It is deeply saddened to learn of his protest that he says there is no boundary in my love for my children and that he hasn’t met expectations for his mother…and one day I’ll be able to speak openly about this!!!”

Spears and Jaden reunited during the holiday season in December 2024, as recorded by Spears on social media. The singer cried out that quality time with her son was “the best Christmas of my life!!!”

Trump tells South Korean President he wants to meet Kim Jong-un

0

President Donald Trump is willing to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. He told his Korean counterpart at a meeting on Monday. There they discussed peace on the nuclear weapons capabilities of the South Korean Peninsula and Pyongyang.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, elected in June, asked Trump to help establish peace between the two South Koreans when he visited the White House.

“I think you’re the first president to have so much interest in world peace issues and have actually achieved results,” Lee said. “So I hope we can reconcile on the Korean Peninsula and meet Kim Jong-un.”

He added that if he wanted to “play Peacemaker,” he would “actively support” Trump, and that the US president was “the only person who could actually resolve” between North Korea and South Korea, and continued the war technically after the South Korean war ended with an armistice rather than a peace treaty.

Lee’s meeting was a major test of South Korea’s new leadership when both Seoul’s trade and military ties with the US were facing pressure from Trump’s “America-first” policy.

After his predecessor and conservative political rival were bounced each, Lee, who took office in June, traveled alongside CEOs and business leaders of several top Korean companies who announced numerous investments during their trip.

South Korea’s Air said it intends to purchase 103 aircraft from Boeing, along with the engine and maintenance programs for GE Aerospace and CFM International, according to a statement.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group said in a statement Tuesday that it would increase its US investment to $26 billion from the previously planned $21 billion.

Korean companies are expected to invest a total of $150 billion in the US, Lee announced that they attended after the summit at the South Korean and US business roundtables.

Golf Club and Cowboy Hat

Among the bespoke gifts Lee handed over were Trump’s “Make America Great” campaign slogan, TaylorMade golf putters and two cowboy hats embroidered on the “Turtleship” model.

And in a nod to Trump’s love for golf and various golf facilities, Lee joked that Trump’s tower should be built in North Korea. “I can play golf in Pyongyang too.”

Trump quickly agreed, although peaceful efforts and negotiations between South Korea and both North and North Korea were key parts of his turbulent first period.

“I do that, and we’ll talk. He wants to see me,” Trump said of Kim. “We look forward to meeting him. We will improve our relationship. You will help with that.”

It is difficult to say whether such a meeting might move on. North Korean state media claimed that joint military training between the US and South Korea showed Washington’s intention to “occupy” the South Korean peninsula, Reuters reported local time in South Korea on Tuesday morning.

In this early and last year, Kim and his powerful sister Kim Yeon-Jong vowed to strengthen their rhetoric, maintain North Korea’s nuclear weapons and destroy South Korea with nuclear weapons if Pyongyang is attacked.

North Korea is now able to produce 10-20 nuclear weapons a year as the country expands its capabilities, Lee said on Monday after a meeting with Trump without providing evidence.

Hans Christensen, director of the American Federation of Scientists’ Nuclear Information Project, said the numbers were “higher than normal, so perhaps (that) means North Korea’s additional uranium enrichment capabilities.”

North Korea’s Test launched two new air defense missiles on Saturday, just two days before the summit between Trump and Lee, according to state media KCNA. And Kim, and potentially his arsenal, is strengthened by the burgeoning relationship with Moscow, with North Korean troops being sent to fight for Russia in the war with Ukraine.

It’s probably not the first time Trump has met Kim – someone He boasts of having a “very good relationship.” “He was very good with me…we did well,” he said Monday.

It wasn’t always the case. There was a great deal of tension in 2017 when North Korea escalated its provocation in missile testing. Then Trump untold Kim as “Little Rocketman” and responded with a tweet that threatened him with “with fire and rage like the world has never seen before.”

However, as the two became pen pals, these tensions cooled down, trading what Trump described as a “love letter,” which ultimately led to a series of unprecedented meetings between the two leaders in 2018 and 2019.

US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jung Country stand on the line of the unarmed zone separating the two South Koreas on June 30, 2019 in Panmunjom, South Korea.

At one meeting in the Unarmed Zone (DMZ) between North Korea and South Korea, in a surprising moment, Kim invited Trump across the border to North Korea.

However, talks ended without a breakthrough, and suddenly concluded in Hanoi in 2019. And subsequent denuclearization or peace negotiation efforts were on fire.

Pyongyang then refused to re-engage with the US, experts said, and resumed testing of weapons, which it seemed to pause along with that dialogue. Although they have not yet begun nuclear tests since 2017, Kim has since vowed to increase the country’s nuclear weapons “exponentially.”

Speaking at an event hosted by the Washington-based think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies, South Korea’s Lee warned that the number of North Korea’s nuclear weapons has increased by 2.5 times over the past few years.

The country is currently in the “final stage” of developing intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) that can “target far-reaching distances,” adding that “the situation is getting worse.”

And at a Congressional hearing earlier this year, Army General Xavier T. Branson testified that he hopes the United States will make progress in other parts of its arms program this year.

“Next year, (North Korea) is looking forward to further developing the re-entry capabilities of hypersonic and multiple independent targets to complete (government) goals,” Branson said.

Australia expels Iran’s ambassador for anti-Semitism attacks

SYDNEY – Australia said on August 26 that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese would banish Iranian ambassador to Canberra after he accused Tehran of carrying out two anti-Semitic attacks in major cities in Sydney and Melbourne.

Since the Israeli-Gaza War began in October 2023, Australian homes, schools, synagogues and vehicles have been targeting anti-Semitic vandalism and arson. Australia’s security agencies had gathered credible information that the Iranian government had directed at least two attacks, Albanese told the news briefing.

“Iran tried to hide its involvement, but Asio credits it with the attack on Sydney’s Lewis Continental Kitchen on October 20th last year and the attack on Melbourne’s Adas Isla El Synagogue on December 6th.”

Australia’s security intelligence agency is likely to have directed further attacks by Iran, he added.

“These were amazing and dangerous acts of aggression organized by foreigners in Australian soil,” Albanese said. “They were trying to weaken social cohesion and spill discord in our community.”

Australia has halted operations at Tehran’s embassy, and all of its diplomats were safe in a third country, Albanese added that his government will designate Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization.

Iran faces a re-challenges with sanctions unless negotiated in its nuclear program

0

Iran is facing an unordered renewal of sanctions within weeks, unless it returns to negotiations on the future of its nuclear program and allows international testing of the facility.

If Tuesday’s meeting between Iran and three European countries fails to advance, the process to recover sanctions lifted 10 years ago under the groundbreaking nuclear deal could begin at the end of the month.

France, Germany and the UK are telling the United Nations that if Iran continues to violate its obligations under the contract, they will move to reimpose sanctions through what is known as the “snapback” mechanism.

The snapback was incorporated into the 2015 nuclear agreement reached by Iran, the US and Europeans. Under the contract, Iran was granted sanctions relief in return for strict and verifiable restrictions on its nuclear program.

However, after President Donald Trump withdrew from the contract known as the JCPOA, Iran expanded its back compliance by accelerating uranium enrichment, which is close to arms-grade.

In a letter to the UN Security Council last week, foreign ministers from three European countries known as E3 said Iran had violated “almost the entire JCPOA commitment.”

“If Iran is willing to reach a diplomatic solution by the end of August 2025, or if he can’t seize an opportunity for expansion, E3 has made it clear that it is ready to trigger a snapback mechanism.”

Iran has halted nuclear negotiations with the United States, aimed to curb enrichment programs after the US and Israel bombed nuclear sites during the 12-day war in June.

Since then, inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN’s nuclear watchdog, have not been able to access Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The snapback will automatically re-equip all UN Security Council sanctions lifted under the 2015 deal. These sanctions, introduced between 2006 and 2010, include an arms embargo, restrictions on uranium enrichment and a ban on Iran’s acquisition technology related to ballistic missile programs. The measure also contributed to serious pressure on Iran’s oil and financial sector.

The snapback process takes 30 days, and Europeans recognize that Russia is envisaging a security council presidency in October, which could hinder the process.

Iranian representatives and six major powers are set to complete a historic deal that will be held in Vienna, Austria on April 24, 2015, three weeks after the Sweiserland reached the framework agreement in Lausanne.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut in a call with his counterparts from the UK, France and Germany on Friday warned that causing a snapback mechanism would have serious consequences, state-run news TV reported.

Iran was preparing for a “worst scenario,” an Iranian official told CNN last week that “we take for granted that E3 will run out of the only remaining leverage to please President Trump.”

Sources said among the options Iran is considering, restrictions on Tehran’s cooperation with the IAEA, withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and E3 can be placed on the “hostile state” list.

“E3 is unrelatedly reducing their role by nagging like annoyed children. They have lost their moral and political compasses that can’t understand their status compared to Americans in power politics in West Asia,” the source said.

Tuesday’s meeting will be held at the Deputy Minister’s level, Report TV reported.

Analysts say the rechallenge of sanctions caused by the snapback will undermine the already plagued Iran’s economy.

“In the short term, snapbacks will hurt the Iranian economy, primarily by causing euro liquidity issues. This is important to Iran’s ability to ensure that products of importance like medicines are purchased. Sanctions also apply to Iran’s consumers and business trust.”

However, he said that China “hopes to continue to buy Iranian oil. (United Arab Emirates) will continue to promote trade among Iranian importers. Iraq will continue to act as a market for Iranian exporters.”

“First of all, I want to apologise, Amaya – during that challenge, I wasn’t going to stand up to the business and I was supposed to have done what I did,” he said in a video chat.

“Thank you for apologizing,” Amaya replied. “I think there was a big energy shift after I learned that I was an American favorite. He tried to put in more effort to have a conversation with me.”

Zak doubled his pure intentions about reconnecting with Amaya despite having some TIFFs. “There was a real connection between the two of us,” he said, sitting on the swing after the challenge.

“When I found out the camera was on, it was when I wanted to have this whole Grammy-winning actor scene, so sometimes there might be a lot of performance.

Coco is the address that calls Olandia “standoffish.”

Cohen and Maddix asked Coco’s Casa Amor Bombshell about calling Olandia the “stand office” in a recent interview.

“Initially, Olandia stood a bit, especially when Olandia returned her. You can say she was mad at how her girl wasn’t there… I understand that,” Coco said.

“I was standing,” replied Olandia. “I’m a fake and I’m not intentionally trying to be the best with these girls I don’t know. I’ll be kind and I’ll be polite, but I don’t know you guys, and I’ve just been fake abandoned.

Just as the couple discussed skydiving and the “crazy things” they wanted to do, Nic added:

The other cast members have put out a collective “AW.”

“You’re still my dog,” he added. There was a nasty silence in the studio before a light applause. Hollandia did not respond to his apology.

Cohen congratulated Iris and Pepe for becoming exclusive after leaving the villa. “We had a conversation about how the dates look to each other,” Pepe explained.

However, he acknowledged that Iris has a different understanding of what the “exclusive” label means. “I think you have to ask someone to be your girlfriend,” Iris said. When Maddix asked if she wanted to be Pepe’s girlfriend, she replied “Yes.”

“It feels like we’re heading for the better,” she added.

“I’m not allowed to talk. It’s Netflix. I’m not allowed to talk about it.” Russell also appeared in the latest season of Netflix’s “Perfect Match.”

Cohen made one more effort to tell Whoda, referring to Louis’s “weapon” red carpet outing, so she replied, “I’m not allowed to talk about it, sorry.”

Brian deals with what is called “cheating videos.”‘

As Cohen mentioned in “the video that caused many rumors about you cheating and partying with other girls,” Amaya crushed.

“They are trying to throw hatred in my way,” Brian responded. “And in the cheating video, hosting – I was paid to be there. I was bert ending on Bert End that day. I had lapsed my judgment and talked about it. And yeah.”

He revealed that this “error” refers to “pouring shots and giving them a shot of the crowd and something like that.”

“I’m not a woman with someone who doesn’t respect me, so if I’m with him or I’m with him, that’s obviously because the dynamics of the relationship are healthy and great.”

The relationship between Amaya, a heart nurse, and Brian, an accountant, a slash real estate agent, was questioned hours before the reunion was set to fall on Peacock.

When asked about the most attractive family, Brian replied: “Your sister’s fire, Hooder.” Amaya spewed a laugh while sitting between Brian and Whoda. Meanwhile, Nick calls out Pepe’s mom.

Ace and Whoda appeared to have a passive, aggressive, aggressive backwards following the question of anyone being “stiff.” Ace said, “I hate the fact that no one was in business while we were there, and now people are outside the villa, so now they feel confident they have the confidence to talk.”

Will Cierra Ortega be at the Love Island USA reunion?

Last month, Cierra Ortega, a long Tiktok video, confirmed he will not be taking part in the reunion for “Love Island USA” season 7. Her announcement comes after it was removed from the show a few days before the finale, following allegations that she used racist slur against people of Asian descent.

On the show, her exit was attributed to a “personal” situation. A former islander with a romantic connection with Vansteenberghe, apologised and explained in a social media video that her exit came from a post that she “was a very naive use of incredibly aggressive and lightly rogative terms.”

Mall running and night swims save summer when burning Abu Dhabi

Summer in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is not for the faint of heart. Mercury rises above 40 degrees Celsius, or 104 degrees Fahrenheit, and the bright sun is amazed at the environment that does not interfere with natural shelters.

Traditionally, the United Arab Emirates has embraced outdoor sports and large-scale fitness events, from desert marathons to beachfront yoga sessions. However, during peak summer, these activities are not only uncomfortable, but also potentially dangerous.

This has impacted new ways for residents and tourists to beat the heat, thanks to innovations such as indoor ski slopes and theme parks. It also led to the first indoor mall run launched in 2017 by Gulf Multi Sport, an Abu Dhabi-based sports event company.

Steve Watson, founder and managing partner of Gulf Multi Sport, says the mall-run concept has inevitably emerged. “We wanted to give people the opportunity to maintain their fitness throughout the oppressively hot summer months,” he told CNN.

Families, women and runners of all ages and fitness levels will take part in the race.

Due to the mall culture of the UAE, this idea is uniquely suited to the region. Unlike small malls elsewhere, Abu Dhabi shopping centres are a huge multi-level space connected by escalators and wide passageways.

For example, Yas Mall, the city’s largest, spans 2.5 million square feet (230,000 square meters).

This provides runners with a variety of loops and courses that can accommodate a variety of distances, while avoiding overcrowding and ensuring safety. According to Watson, runners usually start in shifted groups using tip timing instead of mass start.

Since 2017, the company has held mall running events at venues such as Yas Mall, Reem Mall and Ferrari World.

For example, the Reem Mall Run series features four races held every month from June to September. Runners can sign up for individual events, earn points throughout the series, and earn shots that will win Reem Mall’s Champion Runner. Each race has a distance of 2.5km (1.5 miles), 5km (3 miles), and 10km (6 miles) and there is practically an option to participate if you are traveling.

Initially, the event was driven primarily by expatriates, but today there is strong participation from the UAE public, which Watson emphasized as a rewarding change. He said families, women and runners of all ages and fitness levels will be taking part in the race, many of whom will support a variety of charitable causes linked to the event, including cancer awareness and environmental sustainability.

“Our women-only event at Ferrari World attracts over 1,000 runners. Many Emirati women value a supportive and private environment. It has become a community tradition, with fathers running alongside their fathers and a group of friends who support each other,” Watson said.

Martin Collado, who is in his late 70s and often runs with his wife Mary, is usually one of the older participants on the course.

“Running inside the mall is climate controlled, the surface is uniform and good, and it’s good that the Original S guides us. Mall runs are more popular and attracts all ages. You can continue running throughout the year,” he said.

Mallrun is not the only option to continue working in Abu Dhabi throughout the summer. For those craving outside air again this year, Marsanana Night Beach opened this year on the leisure and sports hub Hudait Island near the city centre. Dark after swimming spots offer a refreshing way to go when the heat of the day goes away.

This is not a new concept in the United Arab Emirates. Dubai previously opened a beach in Jumeirah at night, but this is the first time I’ve come to Abu Dhabi.

Even at night, the sand remains heated underfoot, and the stationary waters of the Persian Gulf, the hottest ocean on the planet, are the walls of the bathtub. Beach fans can recline into the bed under the umbrella despite the lack of sun in the shade.

“It’s been much more difficult to find outdoor activities here once, and certainly most of the summer is indoors, but we love having this new option, and it’s just a short drive from home.”

The sun sets in Abu Dhabi at 7pm in July and about an hour before the end of September. This is when the evening beach session ends. As soon as the light goes out, the floodlights will turn on and the venue will open from 10pm Monday through Thursday and from late night Friday through Sunday.

Abduljeez Manea, an emirati who works in Abu Dhabi’s tourism industry, says the beaches give residents and tourists the opportunity to experience nature as well. “The sand here is too hot to walk in the daytime, so opening at night is a more suitable idea. We can sit outside in a more relaxed, peaceful environment, still walking barefoot and enjoy the benefits of the beach we love.”

Importantly, Abdulla Yousuf, head of International Business Division of Abu Dhabi’s Cultural and Tourism, said it would also bring more economic opportunities to the area and set foot in nearby restaurants and shops.

“By providing safe and convenient access to beaches after dark, we are improving the quality of life in our community and expanding the Emirate’s appeal as a summer tourist destination,” he told CNN.
