Learn how to navigate roundabouts

0

play

  • Roundabouts help eliminate the types of collisions that are likely to cause serious injuries or death.

For more than a few drivers, encountering a roundabout can cause a faster pulse, sweaty sweat, and leave the handles tight.

These circular intersections, where vehicles continue to move or move yields for traffic, have become a favorite of traffic engineers.

Experts say some drivers hate them, but there’s nothing to hate.

Understanding how to navigate them and why they replace more familiar signalized intersections may alleviate some concerns.

Let’s start with some pretty standard questions.

Why have a roundabout rather than a traditional signaled intersection?

For Craig Bryson, a spokesman for the Oakland County, Michigan Road Commission, that’s not just for reasons, but for three main reasons. It’s safety, improving traffic flow, and cost-effectiveness.

Among these, safety is important.

“Safety statistics are kind of whimsical,” he said, pointing to statistics that show a 90% reduction in traffic lethality and a 75% serious injury conflict.

In terms of improving safety, it is difficult to imagine another change that could have similar outcomes, he said.

There are a few things to consider when it comes to traffic flow and cost-effectiveness. Generally, the traffic itself doesn’t stop completely, it keeps moving. And roundabouts actually increase road capacity (30%-50%, according to Bryson).

In the past, the supposed solution to crowding was simply to widen the roads, but Bryson said roundabouts could reduce the need for expansion, and could require the acquisition of private property. Cost-effectiveness comes in part from the need to reconfigure to widen the roads and add more traffic lights.

How does roundabout improve safety?

Simply put, they deal with some of the main factors that lead to crashes, such as speed and competition points, and make crashes more serious.

Speed is the main factor in turning a fatal crash, but Bryson has designed the roundabout by the Road Commission, so traffic moves at 15-25 mph in a circle.

Reducing so-called competitive points that can fill the vehicle is particularly important. And here, the roundabout makes a big difference as the driver doesn’t turn left in front of approaching traffic.

“Left-turn competition is particularly severe. Of the 32 intervehicle conflict points at traditional intersections, 12 are related to vehicles turning left,” according to a video from the Federal Highway Administration, known as the “Principles of Cross Section Safety,” the single-lane roundabouts will be reduced to eight people.

The way people usually die at intersections is often due to the front and T-bone crashes that roundabout designs deal with, Bryson said.

“You’re basically physically eliminating the possibility of any of these types of crashes unless someone flies around the center’s island. This is very rare,” Bryson said.

Slow side swipe and rear end collisions occur in roundabouts, but are usually not seriously injured, Bryson said.

Okay, but how do you navigate these things?

According to the Road Commission, this is what to do:

  • Getting closer to the roundabout will slow you down
  • Select a lane (find a lane use sign when you are approaching) and stay in the lane until you leave the roundabout
  • Suit to pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles in every lane
  • Look to the left and continue if there is no traffic. If there is traffic, wait for the opening before entering the roundabout
  • Give way to a large vehicle
  • If you see an emergency vehicle arrives, you will end the roundabout. Do not pull the roundabout

Roundabouts with a single lane in each direction are rather simple. Bryson said he was passing after surrendering to roundabout traffic, waiting for a traffic gap.

People with multiple traffic are more complicated, and Bryson said, this has more challenges, with drivers trying to change lanes on roundabouts.

How about pedestrians?

“I always succumb to pedestrians,” Bryson said.

The opposite is true, he said.

The islands that divide the detours mean that there are fewer lanes where pedestrians cross at once, as the crosswalks cross those islands.

At traditional intersections, drivers turn left and traffic passes in both directions, and the red right turn may include drivers who cannot see pedestrians crossing the light, Bryson said.

Still, it is worth noting that Oakland County officials may not have the same outlook when it comes to pedestrian safety in all areas. On a recent trip to West Virginia, reporters saw numerous roundabouts in relatively high traffic areas where they thought they had no infrastructure directed towards pedestrian safety.

This underscores the need for all road users to prepare for a variety of scenarios in unfamiliar settings.

What if you’re still worried about navigating the detour?

Bryson said he understands his concerns.

He recalls his first encounter with a roundabout in another state a few years ago, wondering, “What is this?”

But since then, Bryson has become much more familiar. In fact, he recalled the ribbon cutting of the first of his counties on the roads of Tienken, Ranyong and Washington in 1999.

Oakland County is currently the most concentrated in the state, and continues to add other counties.

Bryson’s advice on anxiety:

I go to a nearby roundabout at 7am on a Saturday or early Sunday after several occasions. Being familiar with navigating roundabouts when there is low traffic can help you feel comfortable when there is high traffic.

“If you do it a few times, they’re pretty intuitive. …It’s just that you’re used to them,” Bryson said.

Trump to meet Congressional leaders when government shutdowns are looming

0

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump will meet with congressional leaders from both White House parties on Monday, September 29th, within 48 hours of the deadline to avoid government shutdown.

White House officials confirmed meetings with House Speaker Mike Johnson, Senate majority leader Johnson Tune, Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer and Democrat House leader Hakem Jeffries.

This comes after Trump suddenly canceled a meeting set up with two Democrat leaders on Thursday, September 25th.

The federal government is set to run out of money in the middle of the night, October 1st, at the end of the fiscal year, unless Congress members overcome partisan differences to win contracts to pass the funding bill.

Since 1981, marks the 15th partial shutdown of the federal government.

Without a breakthrough, “essential” government services such as military and law enforcement will continue to operate under shutdowns, while “non-essential” services, including national parks, will be forced to close or reduce staffing.

The Trump White House also warned that Democrats cut programs for low-income women and children if they didn’t reach a deal to avoid closures, as well as the possibility of widespread layoffs for government officials.

Punchbowl News was the first to report on Trump’s upcoming meeting with Congressional leaders.

House Republicans passed a small short-term funding bill on September 19 to fund the government until November 21, but the bill was short in the Senate, where 60 votes are needed to avoid the Democrats’ filibuster.

Senate Democrats are using rare moments of political leverage to demand that the funding bill reverse Medicaid and lose Obamacare subsidies.

“As we’ve said repeatedly, Democrats will meet anytime, anywhere, with anyone, to negotiate a bipartisan spending agreement that meets the needs of the American people,” Schumer and Jeffries said in a joint statement on their plans to meet with Trump.

“We are determined to avoid government shutdowns and deal with the Republican healthcare crisis. Time is running out,” they said.

Trump administration cancels visa for Gustavo Petro Colombian President

WASHINGTON – The Trump administration said it would cancel Colombian President Gustavo Peter’s visa after Colombian leaders spoke at a pro-Palestinian demonstration in New York City, urged US soldiers to not follow President Donald Trump’s orders.

“We will cancel Peter’s visa due to his reckless and inflammatory actions,” the State Department wrote in a September 26th post on X.

During a protest outside the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan, Peter called for a global army to liberate the Palestinians amid Israeli war in Gaza, saying the forces must be “larger than that of the United States.”

“So from here on, from New York, I ask all the soldiers of the US military not to point their guns at people. I won’t follow Trump’s orders. I will follow humanity’s orders,” Peter said in Spanish.

After returning to Bogota, Peter worked on the actions of the State Department.

“I don’t have a visa to travel to America anymore. I don’t care,” the Colombian leader wrote to X:

Peter, Colombia’s first left-wing leader and an outspoken critic of Israel’s military action in Gaza, has accused Trump of his remarks outside the United Nations of “conspired with the genocide” of Gaza. He also called for a “criminal lawsuit” against a US missile attack on a boat suspected of drug operation in Caribbean waters.

In another X-post after the protest, Peter accused Trump of violating the UN’s establishment principles. “It’s time to go to a more democratic place. I propose Doha as the UN headquarters,” Peter said.

Peter’s remarks came after several Western countries, including Canada, Australia, the UK, France and Portugal, recognized the Palestinian state last week, angering Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Trump administration.

In a speech to the UN General Assembly on September 23, Trump called the Palestinian state to recognize Hamas as a “reward” for their actions.

Record producer Metro Boomin has been found not responsible for sexual assault or battery after the lawsuit filed last year accused the woman of pregnant nearly a decade ago.

After a three-day civil trial, the Los Angeles ju judge cleared the hip-hop artist. His real name is Leland Tyler Wayne. No criminal charges were filed against him.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the 32-year-old St. Louis native thanked God that “I can finally put all this nonsense behind me.”

“Based on how I treat others and represent myself, I wouldn’t have thought in a million years that I could be accused of such a disgusting, heinous act,” Wayne wrote.

Wayne said the allegations not only hurt his “family-friendly brand,” but also added trauma to him and his family, including his younger brother at school.

According to a lawsuit obtained by USA Today, Vanessa Lemaestre allegedly raped her in 2016 after giving her a piece of alcohol when she took half of the Xanax drugs during a Studio session.

The wife says the victim was tied up in a hospital bed

  • A gunman fired at the Dallas Ice Field office, killing one detainee and wounding two others.
  • The suspect, who later died of suicide, reportedly targeted ice agents rather than detainees.
  • Garcia’s wife unconsciously expressed her dissatisfaction with his treatment as she remains bound in hospital.

DALLAS – The last time Stephanie Gofeney spoke to her husband, she was encouraged by the excitement in his voice. He had gone home.

Miguel Angel Garcia Medina, 31, was expected to be remanded to immigration and customs enforcement from the Tarrant County Jail in Arlington, Texas. However, the couple hatched plans to bring them together, even if the Trump administration stepped up deportation. Garcia began a visa process for a permanent stay in the United States, married Gopheny and raised four children together with her fifth baby.

“He was happy,” Gauffeny said in a September 23 interview with USA Today on the phone. “He knew he was going to end up with ice, but we had plans to keep him in the US.”

The plan collapsed the next day. On September 24th, Garcia was just transported from Arlington to the Dallas Ice Field Office, when a gunman fired into the building, and a van fired with an 8mm bolt-action rifle, killing one detainee and seriously injured Garcia.

Garcia, 31, was one of three detainees injured or killed that day.

The next time Gofenny saw him, on September 24th, Garcia was in the hospital bed at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

His face was swollen. The tube meandered through his throat. Staples crossed his head and closed the wound. Dry blood held back his face, neck and bed sheet. His arms were tied to the bed, his legs were tied together at his ankles. He was unconscious.

“It was terrible to see him like that,” she said.

Who was the victim of the shooting at the Dallas Ice Field Office?

A senior office of the Homeland Security Agency, speaking about conditions of anonymity, has identified two other victims as Jose Andres Baudon Molina of Venezuela. Nolan Guzman Fuentes of El Salvador.

Records of a Dallas County Medical Examiner show the death of 37-year-old Guzman Falentes. Authorities ruled his death as murder.

All three men had no proper documentation in the country and had criminal records ranging from traffic crimes to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Garcia was arrested on August 8 for driving after being affected and spent six weeks at the Tarrant County Jail in Arlington, Texas.

Local supporters have condemned the lack of information about immigrant victims.

Federal authorities said suspect Joshua Yahn, 29, ran around the area near the facility around 3am on Sept. 24, and saw the rudder perched on a truck. He then uses a ladder to climb onto the roof in the two-storey building behind the facility, they said.

Around 6:30am, Yarn began firing at the facility, crashing into the building and sending circles into a transport van filled with at least 10 detainees. Surveillance video obtained by local television media shows detainees, hands and feet tied together, surged into the facility from the van during a barrage of gunfires.

At a press conference on September 25, federal officials said evidence found to be linked to gunmen showed Yarn targeting ice agents rather than detainees. Some ice and ATF agents ran into the van under the fire to retrieve the injured detainees, they said.

“They were bringing life to help pull detainees away from the transport van and lead them to safety,” said Marcos Charles, acting executive associate director of Ice’s execution and removal business. “They are heroes.”

Garcia sought legal status with our family

Garcia was one of the detainees who were hit by a van, and his hands and feet were tied together. Approximately eight bullets were torn apart by him, hitting his shoulder, stomach, tailbone and neck, causing him to suffer a massive amount of stroke. He was eventually drawn from the van and rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Eric Cedillo, national legal counsel for the United Latin American Citizens’ Federation, said despite his DUI violations, Garcia was trying to obtain permanent residency in the “right” way through immigration lawsuits, and was brought to the United States as a teenager.

He said Gopheny, a US citizen, sponsored him for the first approved I-130 visa.

“He’s been doing all the right things here for 20 years,” said Cedillo, who advises his family.

He added: “It can be bad or bad in any demographic. He wasn’t one of the bad things. It’s a shame what happened to him and the other victims in this incredibly tragic event.”

Garcia was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and was brought to the United States when he was 13 with his three brothers and settled in Arlington, Texas, Gopheny said.

The two met during their freshmen at Sam Houston High School and began dating a few years after high school. They got married in 2016. Garcia helped her two daughters, Gopheny, already raised. The pair totaled two girls, ages 8-14 and one 3-year-old boy, Miguel Angel Garcia Jr.

Garcia was a stellar dad, and Gopheny is helping her 8-year-old daughter who has ruined the girl, attended the daddy daughter’s dance and dot Miguel Jr. with autism. He is a painter and contractor and the only bread winner of the family. In May they bought their first home: a modest three-bedroom, one-bathroom home.

Garcia was delighted in September that Gopheny was pregnant with another boy, she said.

“He wanted that second boy,” she said.

The DUI was his first crime, and other charges that avoided arrest fell later, Gauffeny said. They hoped his relationship with the community and his growing family would ensure he was deported.

“Our hope was that he was allowed to stay here with us,” she said.

Bondage at the hospital

On the morning of September 24th, Gopheny was woken up to news of a shooting at the Dallas Ice Field office. She knew he was going to be transferred to ice that morning, but she thought it was too coincidence for Garcia to get involved.

She was worried when he didn’t call. He then called to let her know about 2pm that Garcia had been shot dead at the facility and taken to Parkland. She rushed to the hospital with her sister and mother.

Gopheny said her husband had just been shot in the arm and thought he might wake up and recover. She was shocked by the horrifying scene that greeted her as she stepped into her hospital room. She began to cry.

Since then, Gauffeny said there have been few details about what happened that day. Hospital staff filled her with his injuries. He has had at least one operation and probably needs more.

But the person lying in bed with his swollen face and tubes, arms and legs tied to the bed, didn’t look like his husband, who recently helped put his child to bed every night, she said.

The family launched a GoFundMe page to offset some of the medical expenses. But it is an image of his arms and legs being bound, and it is the most difficult to sway, Gopheny said.

“They don’t respect him as a human being,” she said. “He can’t even move. He feels really unfair in the way he is being treated when he was (the victim) of a hate crime.”

Lead can affect almost any body system, but its effects depend not only on the individual’s age and weight, but also on the amount and duration of exposure, according to the FDA. In children, exposure to sufficient lead for weeks to months can cause permanent damage to the central nervous system, leading to learning disabilities, developmental disorders and other long-term health issues, the federal agency added.

In adults, chronic lead exposure is associated with renal dysfunction, hypertension and neurocognitive effects, the FDA said.

How Trump’s tariffs on household goods are expected to collide with consumers and businesses

0

play

Despite the costs associated with purchasing and maintaining homes remain out of reach for many Americans, new tariffs on housing equipment manufacturers will make it difficult to have dire consequences for many of the household goods industry, let alone the wider economy.

The tariffs announced on True Social by President Trump on September 25th include a 30% tax on upholstered furniture, and 50% in the vanity of kitchen cabinets and bathrooms.

“People couldn’t replace it in their homes for a number of reasons,” says Maggie Kulyk, founder and CEO of Chicory Wealth, a wealth advisory company. “Wages aren’t in line with housing market inflation. And then interest rates have risen. So there are people who are literally locked in. And now they want kitchen cabinets.

What does “pay more” mean? An amendment expert interviewed by USA Today in April estimated that home renovation costs could rise by as much as 25% after the first round of tariffs were unfolded. If there is an additional 50% levy on cabinets and vanity, that estimate could be jacked.

This old home summary suggests that you can get a prefabricated vanity at the low end for just $100 to $2,600, but a custom-built version can cost as much as $2,800. Installations could be hundreds, or even thousands, but as Kulyk points out, many migrant communities that traditionally provided labor for such installations are subject to deportation.

Meanwhile, Angi’s data from Home-Services Company shows that homeowners can expect to spend $6,317 on cabinets on average, but the project can cost as much as $11,044 for just $1,978.

The American producers of kitchen cabinets may be one of the few players happy with the new tariffs. Two industry groups, the American Kitchen Cabinet Alliance and the Association of Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers, advocate for “at least 100%” tariffs.

In material posted online, the two groups wrote that more than 250,000 American jobs are at stake as countries, including Mexico, Vietnam and Malaysia, bring cheap products from China to the United States.

How strong is the economy?

While the goal may be to reuse American manufacturing and protect domestic jobs, some observers are concerned that these policy procedures are being taken at the expense of moderately-income Americans.

Now, official economic data shows that the American economy is strong and remains resilient in the face of the White House shock and patience tariff policies. Economic Production (GDP) rose 3.8% in the second quarter of 2025, and the Commerce Department said on September 25 that it rose 2.5% due to a 2.5% increase in consumer spending.

However, Kulyk is surprised by recent reports showing that he is a high-end shopper supporting consumer spending. A recent Boston Fed study found a February analysis from Moody’s analysis that found the top 10% of income earners (over $250,000 a year) accounted for half of all spending.

But for everyone else, things are becoming more challenging. Many Americans have fallen in average credit scores, with many struggling to pay off their student loans.

“We live in a very dangerous situation, both politically and macroeconomically,” Kulyk said in an interview. “I think when the rubber hit the road and some of the people who only make $200,000 a year, they realised they thought they had a seat at the table, but now they’re on the menu, so they’re potentially going to see a significant social unrest.”

Tariffs cause “total disruption” in the industry

Meanwhile, in the home-based goods industry, tariffs are causing “complete confusion” according to Barbara Karpf, founder and president of DecoratorsBest, one of the best online suppliers of textiles and wallpapers, according to Barbara Karpf, which is available only to TradeSple.

“Many companies are just canceling or closing many of their products,” Karpf said in an interview. “They sell less products, foreign companies are sticking to products they are in production, some are in transit and they intend to sit in warehouses.”

Even if some companies accept the idea of reusing manufacturing, there is no way to start production in a few months, let alone October 1st. Some of the contacts at KARPF have investigated the possibilities solely to find out that the machines needed are very expensive thanks to previous tariffs. Some have cancelled various product lines, while others have cut down on workers or closed them completely.

Carpf said DecoratorsBest was on track, but they had to plan to hire more workers and other investments.

“I don’t want to oppose some of the mutual tariffs or take money back to the government. I respect the president’s new stance, and I understand that,” she said. “But its randomness and lack of notification, this is not a way to do business. You cannot grow or thrive. I pray you wake up, and there are no other tariff tweets.”

Hurricane predictors look at three major risk factors for people in the East Coast belt. This is a complicated weather dance that led to a troublesome prediction for late September.

First, Hurricane Humbel is screaming as a big hurricane in the Atlantic. Second, another storm that became resistant to tropical depression on September 27th will soon be named Imelda and is expected to move parallel to the coastline width from Florida to Carolina. And thirdly, unrelated rain is expected in the southeastern United States.

The three weather systems interact with each other in a presumably dramatic and chaotic way, increasing uncertainty.

Forecasts on Saturday, September 27th require heavy rain, dangerous surf and high-end tropical storm winds to begin arriving along the southeastern US coast by September 29th.

A tropical storm clock was issued on September 27th from the Palm Beach Martin County Line to the East Coast of Florida. The rip current is also expected to be strengthened on beaches along Florida’s east coast the following day, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Imelda was able to form, stall and throw rain in the southeast

The National Hurricane Center’s official forecast track call will turn the new system, called Tropical Depression 9, into a tropical storm by the night of September 27th, then into a hurricane by early next week off the Florida coast. The forecast shows that it will approach the South Carolina coast from September 29th to 30th, allowing nearly 24 hours offshore in roughly the same location.

A slow, moving storm means heavy rain will “substantial threat,” said Michael Brennan, director of the Hurricane Center. “We don’t know exactly where that heaviest rainfall will occur, but that’s added to some of the heavy rain seen in parts of the southeastern United States this weekend.”

“The threat of heavy rainfall is increasing from Georgia through Carolina from mid-Atlantic states early next week, which could cause flashes, cities and river flooding,” Brennan said. “So anyone on the coast of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, will want to keep an eye on the predictions of this system throughout the weekend, all the way to the southern part of the South Atlantic.”

However, greater than usual uncertainty remains in the forecast.

As the storm approaches, the combination of factors is not to give mereographers comfort in making their predictions. This includes the effects of approaching cold fronts and higher-level disturbances on the region, questions about the speed and timing of the system and Humbeld, and the possibility of an unusual interaction between the two tropical systems when approaching each other early on September 29th.

Meanwhile, unrelated rain events that bring heavy rain to the Appalachians and the southeast are shaping up the potential for greater flooding, even before the tropical weather begins.

Hurricane Hanbelt and Fuji White Effect

At 11am on September 27th, Humbel was a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 145 mph. Humbel strengthened rapidly the day before, with its wind speed increasing by 80 mph in 24 hours. Humbel is located in the heart of about 365 miles north-northeast of the Northern Leward Islands, and traveled to West Northwest at 8 mph.

The computer model used for prediction for days suggests that Brian McNoldy, a senior researcher at Atmospheric and Earth Sciences at the University of Miami, suggests that the computer model used for prediction could have a Fujisensitivity effect between the Hume Belt and potential tropical storms.

It is a phenomenon that occurs when two cyclones near each other do not move independently, but start rotating around a common center point between them. That interaction can cause one storm to absorb another, and two storms to fuse together, and both storms can move in different directions.

“We’ve seen a lot of fun and fun,” said Dan Brown, Hurricane Specialist Branch Chief of Hurricane Centre. As a result, the Hurricane Center and its partners are scheduling frequent flights of Hurricane Hunter aircraft over the Western Atlantic to gather information about the storm and its surrounding environment, Brown said. Weather Services are launching additional balloons to collect atmospheric information.

On September 26, one model showed three opportunities for the Fujifara effect, McNoldy told USA Today. “It’s certainly within the realm of the possibility that Humbel and the future Aimelda will rotate around the common “center of gravity” during Sunday Thursday,” he said.

As a rough rule of thumb, the separation distance between the storm centres required for mutual attraction to occur is about 800 miles, but that’s not a hard and fast number, he said. Their relative size and strength also affect them.

“The Humbel becomes much bigger and stronger, so the center of gravity is much closer to the center of the Humbel, so Storm’s tracks can only feel a slight nudge, and future Imeldas may feel a serious pull and even leave the sea before they reach the coast.”

On the other side of the situation, he said, each of the two storms can move as if no other storms were present.

Heavy rain before tropical weather creates another layer of danger

The chances of serious flooding are thanks to the weather phenomenon that meteorologists call “previous rain events).

“This weekend’s setup could produce rainy events like its predecessor, or far outweigh future Imelda,” said Michael Laurie, WPLG-TV’s hurricane specialist on September 26th.

These presses are usually exacerbated by the presence of low-level, low-pressure areas nearby, as forecasts this weekend in Tennessee Valley.

An extreme version of this happened a year ago in the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee, ahead of Hurricane Helen.

How much rain could it be in the southeast?

The weather forecasting center says 5-10 inches of rain could fall into the southeastern coast of Northern and South Carolina through the first few days of October. Higher totals could drop locally, leading to “scattered pockets of flash floods,” the Weather Forecast Center said.

From eastern Georgia to central Virginia, Accuweather meteorologists said the Carolina coast could be seen over 8 to 16 inches.

“Rainfall of this magnitude can lead to widespread, life-threatening flooding, especially if the storm slows or stalls,” Accuweather said.

Tracking the Atlantic Storm Path

This predicted track shows the most likely pathway in the center of the storm. The full width of the storm or its impact is not shown, and the storm center can move out of the cone for up to 33% of the time.

Relationship Advice: Truth About Codependency

0

play

You know the proverb: distance will grow the heart. But if someone is only gone for a few hours, is that an axiom?

The virus Tiktok, which has been viewed approximately 22 million times, is suggested. In the video, after two hours of departure, a muscular man with a shining smile runs a race in his wife’s car. “This made me realize I deserve someone like this,” the comment read. Another: “I never see a big, muscular guy as a perfect lover.”

The video itself is sweet and not worrying. It’s a fun internet post.

But that’s a good entry point for some deeper questions about relationships. Do these types of emotions raise concerns ever? Is it okay to miss out on your partner so many times? Mental health experts argue that every relationship looks different. The key is to balance time together with what is useful for individual couples.

“The healthiest relationships allow for both intimacy and independence,” says Lewis Cornejo, a licensed marriage and family therapist. “You can miss your partner in a few hours and Still, enjoy your time. A balance between relationships and personality helps keep relationships stronger in the long run. ”

What does “too much unity” mean?

What constitutes time together or too apart is not easily defined. That’s a data point. “Deliverying your partner in a few hours is simply a part of the information,” says Laura Pettiford, a licensed marriage and family therapist. “A more important aspect of this is how this feeling affects your partner.”

Some people love to spend quality time with their partners and lament their absence. “It could be seen as a reflection of intense love, affection and connection that many people want to find in relationships,” says Maryne Fisher, a psychology professor at St. Mary’s University in Canada. “When they see them after they’ve been away all day, wouldn’t they want their partner to smile?”

Other relationships may require more time. “Some people prefer to distinguish between aspects of life, such as needing time alone or maintaining friendships and hobbies separately from their partner,” Fisher says. “To them, too much unity may feel like a loss of identity.”

Beware of important signs of trouble. One such warning is “if missing turns into overwhelming anxiety, guilt or constant worry about the relationship,” says Cornejo. or “If someone feels that they cannot function without a nearby partner, or they can refer to deeper patterns of attachment, self-worth, or communication, regardless of conflict or shame from apart.”

“We all have emotional blind spots.”

There is no embarrassment to get help in these situations from a trained mental health counselor. Your friends and family advice may not cut it.

“We all have emotional blind spots that can prevent us from experiencing what we want most in life,” says Alice Shepherd, a clinical psychologist and owner of Miliel Therapy Practice.

If you think your relationship may require therapeutic intervention, remember that clinical advice also differs to some extent.

“Most experts would recommend that partners seek a balance between trust and independence,” Fisher said. “I don’t think it’s as essential as mutual understanding.”

Stellantis stlam.mi is recalling 123,396 vehicles in the US for stripped trim pieces of drivers and passengers’ windows that could cause road hazards for other vehicles.

According to the NHTSA, the quarter trim of the windows for drivers and passengers may not be properly secured, and it can be separated.

The recall covers certain 2022-2024 Chrysler Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer Vehicles, Auto Safety Regulator added that the remedy is currently in development.

Earlier this month, the NHTSA said Stellantis recalls 164,000 US vehicles due to the issue of possible trim separation between driver and passenger doors.

Teacher, school employee fired for Charlie Kirk

Some educators who lost their jobs in comments they made after the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk have filed lawsuits alleging their right to free speech had been violated.

The school and university employees who filed the lawsuit are part of a large number of workers who have been fired or suspended from their work, according to a number of USA Today Today news reports and statements. The count includes at least 50 educators.

At least three people are fighting back in court, according to a report by the USA Today Network. They included teachers from Iowa and compared Kirk to the Nazis. The South Carolina teacher’s assistant posted a quote from Kirk, saying that she opposed him but called the death a “tragedy.” And an Indiana University employee denounced some of his beliefs, saying that Kirk’s death was wrong.

Kirk, co-founder of the conservative youth-centric organization Turning Point USA and close ally of President Donald Trump, was killed while speaking at an event held at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah on September 10th. Suspect Tyler Robinson was charged with murder and accused of firing a single shot with a rifle from the rooftop.

The murder sparked a tense national debate over partisan rhetoric and politically motivated violence, with many conservatives hoping to celebrate Kirk’s death or fire a private person who somehow spoke of his illness about him.

Three educators — all employed in public school districts and public universities — allegedly protected by their constitutional rights to free speech, according to separate lawsuits filed in September. The lawsuit filed by Matthew Calgol, a former Iowa Oscaloosa High School teacher, reported the Des Moines register, part of the USA Today Network, that the district “wields national power to punish citizens for expressing opinions on political issues.”

“Their actions will attack at the centre of the First Amendment and make the exercise of their constitutional rights cold,” Kalgol’s complaint said.

What did the school employee say about Charlie Kirk?

Suit said all the fired employees posted on social media and expressed their opinions about Charlie Kirk shortly after his death.

Calgol, a teacher fired in Iowa, posted on his personal Facebook page while on his job, which said “one Nazi Down,” the lawsuit said. The Oscaloosa school said on September 11 that Calgol was placed on leave and that his dismissal came on September 17th after a unanimous school board vote, the Des Moines register reported.

“Calgol’s comments were rhetorical exaggerations about widely reported public events,” the complaint states. “It didn’t threaten anyone, incite any immediate illegal activities, and was directed at members of the school community.”

Lauren Vaughn, who was fired on September 15 as a teacher assistant at River Ridge Elementary School in Spartanburg, South Carolina, commented on social media that “she shouldn’t have finished,” according to a journal with a forward-throwing experience in Spartanburg said.

Post Vaughan, made on Facebook, contained some of the quotes from Kirk. “Unfortunately, I think it’s worth the cost of a gun death every year.

“Thoughts and Prayers,” Vaughn added after the quote attributed to Kirk.

In a comment below the post, Vaughn said:

“I oppose (Kirk) and I think it shouldn’t happen today. Sorry,” she said according to the lawsuit.

Suzanne Swierc was fired from his job as director of health promotion and advocacy, an Indianapolis star who is part of the USA Today network. In her lawsuit, supported by the ACLU Indiana branch, she said she only confirmed that the posts she made were on her private Facebook account and that it looks only to friends. Nevertheless, screenshots from the post were widely shared across other accounts.

Swierc called Kirk’s death a “tragedy” and “can do it for his wife and children,” she said. She also said she believes in the resurrection and prays for his soul, the lawsuit said.

Her post also criticized his political activities. “Charlie Kirk’s death is a reflection of the violence, fear and hatred he had so. It’s a sad truth without excuseing his death.”

The lawsuit alleges that the right to free speech was violated.

In both cases, educator posts promoted social media complaints and attentional swelling. In the days after Kirk’s death, the well-known conservative account distributed screenshots of controversial remarks and urged employers to fire the poster. But the statements made by public school employees are examples of constitutionally protected free speech, the lawsuit said.

Calgol’s lawsuit in Iowa is called the former teacher’s social media “a blunt personal response to prominent political events: a speech on the issues of public opinion at the very heart of protecting the terms of the First Amendment.”

“This issue was handled in accordance with applicable federal and state laws and board policies,” district officials told the Des Moines Register. “Because this is both a HR issue and a pending litigation, the Oscaloosa schools are unable to provide further comment at this time. Our focus is on creating a safe, healthy and kind school that will engage all students in ensuring the power of learning.”

Cohoon, a lawyer for Vaughan in South Carolina, said public school employers must balance employee rights to free speech that employers need to avoid disruption to the workplace. He said the district did not show Vaughn’s comments disrupted the functions of her school or other schools in the district. Melissa Robinet, a spokesman for Spartanburg County District Five Schools, told USA Today that the county was sued but had no comment.

In a lawsuit against Ball State University, the ACLU in Indiana alleged that Swierc’s comments had no effect on her work and were finished solely to exercise her expressive power. The university says her comments caused a huge uproar for the university.

Who were the victims of the Dallas Ice Facility shooting?

The shooting, which investigators described as a target attack on ice personnel, killed one person and two died in critical condition.

play

Details are still dripping with around three immigrant victims a few days after the September 24 shooting at the Dallas Immigrants and Customs Enforcement Field Office.

The names and nationalities of the three detainees who were shot and killed have now been released. The shooting, which investigators described as a target attack on ice personnel, killed one person and two died in critical condition.

The 29-year-old man allegedly shot a tied detainee in a field office van from a nearby rooftop, but was injured in the attack.

A senior office of the Homeland Security Agency, speaking about terms of anonymity, has identified the man as Mexico’s Miguel Angel Garcia Hernandez. Jose Andres Baudon Molina of Venezuela. Nolan Guzman Fuentes of El Salvador. Officials provided criminal history of the detainees but did not specify which man died or the scope of the other two surviving injuries.

Local supporters have condemned the lack of information about immigrant victims.

What happened during the filming?

On the morning of September 24th, Joshua Yarn was said to have taken a ladder to the Immigration Law Office and climbed onto the roof. Officials said they fired indiscriminately at the Ice Field Office using an 8mm bolt-action rifle and hit the building with a van carrying detainees at Surrey Port.

Surveillance footage released by Fox News showed a tied detainee struggling to escape the van as the shooting unfolded. It is unclear whether the three men were able to make it out of the van.

Marcos Charles, executive associate director of Ice’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, said ICE and the Bureau of Alcohol, cigarettes, firearms and explosives officers “running back to danger and to save detainees.”

Authorities later discovered that Yarn had died from obvious self-harm.

They say they have recovered their writings that show Yarn attempting to terrorize the Trump administration’s agents of immigration crackdown. Filming was the third targeted at immigration facilities in Texas.

Federal authorities are increasing security at ice facilities across the country. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on the X-Post September 26th that the Department of Justice will deploy agents to protect ice facilities.

Judge Thomas says past Supreme Court decisions are not “gospel.”

0

play

Washington provided his view that there is nothing sacred about the precedent as the Supreme Court is about to revisit some key decisions.

“At some point we need to think about what we are doing in our staring decision,” Judge Clarence Thomas said of the legal term protecting the stability of the law. “And that’s not some kind of amulet deal where you can just say ‘glare decision’ and turn your brain off without thinking. ”

Thomas provided that view on September 25th with a rare public appearance at the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University.

He was asked about factors he considered when deciding whether his past decisions were incorrect and did not address pending cases.

In his term, which begins next month, the court will revisit a nearly century-old ruling protecting the heads of independent bodies that President Donald Trump has repeatedly challenged as he seeks greater control over the government.

The High Court supported the constitution that fell into a 1935 decision on Humphrey’s Enforcer vs. the United States, preventing members of the Federal Trade Commission from being fired for no reason.

When the majority said Trump could fire the FTC’s last Democrat, Judge Ellen Kagan wrote in her opposition that her colleagues would “rar” to overturn Humphrey’s enforcer.

That’s not the only thing that courts can be promoted.

The administration has called on the court to support Trump’s changes to birthright citizenship, which threatens the 127-year-old Supreme Court decision.

In another case, Republicans argue that the 2001 decision limits the fact that parties and other messages that can be spent in collaboration with federal candidates on advertising and other messaging is no longer meaningful.

And the courts could hinder the important provisions of the Voting Rights Act that they had previously upheld.

All of these are when the High Court agrees to or is expected to hear.

What’s less certain is whether justice wants to revisit the 2015 decision to legalize same-sex marriage across the country.

The former Kentucky County Clerk, who refused to issue a same-sex marriage license in 2015 due to her religious beliefs, asked the court to do so.

However, many legal experts believe it is unlikely that the court will consider her appeal.

The judge refused to intervene in 2020 early in her challenge.

Thomas then wrote that Davis’ case was a “severe reminder” to the outcome of the court’s same-sex marriage decision, but that questions about the verdict “didn’t present neatly.”

Thomas was Roev in 2022. It was one of the judiciaries voted to overturn Wade.

At the Catholic University, Thomas said he respected precedents, but said, “Precedents should respect our legal traditions, our country and our laws, and be based on something, not just on what someone else has dreamed of and what others have done together.”

“I don’t think I have the gospel,” he said.

Cadillac Eldorado in 1972 reunites the couple for $2,500

0

play

It was in 1999 that Cynthia Claffham’s boyfriend agreed to sell her 1972 Cadillac for $5,000.

“He had bought a car so I told him if he’d ever decided to sell it. I wanted to buy it,” the Bloomington woman said.

Hugesup drove the classic Cadillac quite frequently after buying in the early 1990s and then towing boats towards eastern Canada.

Clapham was in love with Fleetwood Eldorado and was happy when Jessup decided to sell and buy a convertible for him.

She previously paid $2,500 and signed a memo promising to pay the rest next year.

Then she said, Jessup ended their relationship. She drove on a Cadillac.

“After he broke up with me, I really forgot to pay him. Then when I remembered, I really didn’t care. We didn’t talk for the next three or four years.”

In 2005, he sent her a letter containing a note of the promise she signed when she bought a Cadillac. “He wrote that it didn’t seem like I’d pay it,” she said, “and he allowed the loan.”

Ten years later, they returned together and became life partners.

“Long time since we broke up, I have said the car is the best I’ve ever had out of that relationship,” Claffham said. “But then I had to stop saying that.”

Clapham still had a Cadillac when they reunited. The red upholstery was a little badly worn as there are passengers with 120 pounds of front seats.

“She loved getting into the car. Her ears would just fly in the wind.”

Clapham also said her father, the late Chuck Clapham, also enjoyed being driven around town in her daughter’s majestic car. He was 83 when he passed away in 2003 and is still with her when she was out and in the caddy.

“I had some of my father’s ashes that were scattered around, and there was some leftover at the bottom of the container,” she said. “I put it in the car. I told myself, ‘Hey, daddy. Let’s go for the ride.’ ”

Sure enough, there is a white plastic bowl with a lid on the back seat floor board.

Clapham has done some work in the car over the past year. I replaced the wiring and hose, adjusted the drum brake and stopped faster. She bought new tires on a 4-inch wide whitewall. The old tires have been in the car since 1999.

Driving a Cadillac brings her joy. “I could be in a bad mood or unhappy so I got in that car and put the Oldies in a cassette player,” she said.

“And it puts a smile on my face every time I drive.” Wherever she goes, people ask if she wants to sell it. “Of course the answer is no.”

The elegant car, made from original paint, is a legacy handed over to my daughter.

She scoffs when her 18-year-old grandson says the car is too big. “I grew up driving a Buick Elella. We always had big cars,” Clapham said. “I can park this in parallel. I usually can’t go where I have to, but if that’s the case, I could.”

The car is almost 19 feet long and weighs nearly 5,000 pounds. She is one of the 7,975 Fleetwood Eldorado Convertible Cadillacs made in 1972.

The showroom floor cost 52 years ago at $7,680, which is equivalent to $58,000 in 2024. At the time it was a high-end luxury car.

Not yet.

Clapham teases Jessup about that $2,500 long debt, “And he’ll never see it.”

Trump says he’s sending troops to Portland, Oregon to protect the ice

Trump said on social media that he is sending troops to Portland, Oregon to protect immigrant facilities.

play

President Donald Trump said he is escalating an aggressive campaign to send troops to Portland, Oregon, and using them in US soil.

“At the request of Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem, I direct War Secretary Pete Hegses to provide all the troops needed to protect the war-torn Portland, he said in the Truth Social Post on September 27th.

A spokesperson for Portland Mayor Keith Wilson and Democrat Gov. Tina Kotek did not immediately respond to requests for comment. In Portland, the mayor is a nonpartisan position.

Like states across the country, federal agents and protesters clashed regularly outside Portland’s ice buildings.

At a press conference on September 26, local officials urged residents not to respond to the rise in federal officers in the city.

According to Oregon Public Broadcasting, Democrat Sen. Jeff Markley said “don’t take bait.” At the same press conference, Wilson said, “This could be a show of power, but that’s all. It’s just a big show.”

Other officials said the influx was intended to lead protesters into conflict.

The post does not specify that Trump intends to activate another part of the National Guard or military, or that he meant by saying that he would “permit full power if necessary.”

The White House, the Department of Homeland Security and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to emails requesting explanations.

Trump previously deployed the National Guard in Los Angeles and Washington, DC, and amid strong criticism from Democrats on those areas and legal agendas, Trump’s orders were only welcomed by the governor in Memphis.

Earlier in September, Trump described his life in Portland as “like living in hell,” saying he was considering sending federal forces. He poses similar threats in other Democratic-led cities, including Chicago and Baltimore.

Since the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Trump has denounced the “radical left” on the country’s issues regarding political violence. In a memo on Thursday ordered the crackdown on allegations of “organized political violence,” Trump wrote that “riots” in Portland and Los Angeles led to a significant increase in attacks on ice agents.

Naphesa Collier’s injury was inevitable and preventable. It’s in the WNBA

0

play

Maybe the WNBA will hear it now.

For years, players and coaches have warned that the physicality of the game is out of hand. The host is not responding to the size, strength and pace of the WNBA game, and is hitting both the players and the product. If the league doesn’t step in, if it keeps calm for the host of sub-pars, someone will get injured.

Well, someone has it now. And not everyone. One of the biggest names in the game. One of the biggest games of the season.

Naphesa Collier, runner-up for each of the MVPs of the last two seasons, said “probably has a fracture” after a dismantling derby between the Minnesota Lynx and Phoenix Mercury on Friday night, an error, and a clash with Alyssa Thomas late in Game 3. The already-chippy series was off the rails, Collier letting the floor drop and shed tears, and director Cheryl Reeve was held back by his assistant and had to guard Nazisha Hedemann before he left.

“If this is what our league wants, then OK, but when it comes to hosting, I want to see a change in leadership at the league level,” Reeve said after the match that her rage was obvious.

“It’s bad for the game. The host crew we had tonight is cheating to deem leadership worthy of these three people’s playoffs.”

This is not a sour grape. This isn’t Reeve’s whine as her team, No. 1 seed, is on the brink of elimination after an 84-76 defeat in the semi-finals on Friday night.

This is about player safety. And the WNBA doesn’t care about it.

USA Today Sports has sent an email to three members of the WNBA requesting comment. None of them responded.

W is a physical league. That’s always the case. However, as players became stronger, the game became faster and more intense, so the physicality surged. It’s not uncommon to see players with black eyes or bruises from Run of Mill the Mill games during the regular season. There’s also a reason why the rookie heads straight into the weight room as soon as his first season is over.

W’s dirty Little Secret was a national fire prevention last season as Kate Linklark arrived in the league. Her fans were horrified how much she bumped, pushed and shaking she was, and in fact, she was targeted when all the other W players were experiencing the same thing.

It doesn’t make it right. But W players are just as competitive as other elite-level athletes, taking things as much as possible, as long as staff doesn’t intervene.

And there’s the problem there. Officials haven’t done that. Whether it’s incompetent or ineffective, the outcome is the same. W has now become the west of the wild, reaching a point where physicality is not safe.

“Most of my assistants come from the NBA. “This doesn’t fly in the NBA. This level of physicality doesn’t fly in the NBA. There’s no fight.

It’s strange that there wasn’t a Friday. Beyond the reeve drain, the Lynx and Mercury players were swinging towards each other like boxers before the measurement.

“We talked about how dangerous it is,” Reeve said. “You’re hearing it from other series. You’re hearing other coaches – you’re hearing Becky about how physically he’s getting people injured and there’s a fight. And this is the look our league wants for some reason.”

Unlike the NBA, which has a double-length season, W officials are not full-time. W defended the host, saying officials are being monitored by the league office and amendments are being made throughout the season.

But when you look at every game, you will soon see that the host doesn’t cut it at the college level.

Colliers are the focus of both Minnesota’s offensive and defense, and as such, they rarely remain vulnerable. She has at least one player in her face almost every second, where she is on the court. The same goes for MVP A’ja Wilson.

However, Collier and Wilson had one free throw between the two on Friday night. That’s right. The two players who touch the ball the most and get the most attention from their opponents drew one foul in a total of 75 minutes they were on the court.

That makes sense.

“They told me not to say anything, but you know I can’t,” Hamon said as he pointed it out.

And this doesn’t even make a routine headed mistake in bones, such as ignoring an expired shot clock in the first round or ignoring the unbearable long time it takes to review your phone.

The WNBA has a long history of changing players and cutting corners in league operations. (This is a league that had only one marketer recently in 2019 and had no CMO until 2020.) As interest in the league explodes and its spotlight increases, the WNBA must start acting like a top-notch professional league. You can start by hosting an amateur.

I apologize to Collier. Collier’s injuries were preventable and inevitable.

Longer holidays means spending more on Halloween this year

0

You may have been surprised that Halloween items arrived early at the retailer. Some of these will be around July 4th. But why did skeletons, witches and ghosts start to pop out as the fireworks went out?

These horrifying items will drive Halloween spending to $13.1 billion this year, the National Retail Federation said. Previous record was $12.2 billion in 2023.

There are multiple reasons, including early summer Halloween celebrations, such as “Summerwin,” which can make it more popular and profitable for retailers. Economic factors such as tariffs, purchase decisions, and storage costs also affect seasons and expenditures.

Even your own insecurities may play a role. You may be experiencing a phenomenon of mortality salience, a growing awareness of your own inevitable death.

When that happens, “study shows people are engaged in compensation behaviour,” says Dr. Daniele Mathras, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education at D’Amore-Mckim Business School at Northeastern University and an associate professor of marketing. “They may escape, distract, or reinforce cultural norms and ideals through consumption.”

Can’t you see our graphics? Click here to reload the page.

Trump’s tariffs stalled Halloween orders

According to the South China Morning Post, approximately 90% of the celebration products (items related to holidays and other seasonal occasions) are imported from China. Includes Halloween and Christmas items.

According to industry analyst Marketing 411, tariffs are one of the reasons we saw Halloween products appear in the summer. Customs duties are a type of tax that applies to imports into the United States. Importers pay taxes, while economists say some of the costs will be passed to consumers.

“When tariffs were originally imposed at a rate of 145%, the volume of all Halloween suppliers dropped significantly, leading to cancelled and stalled orders,” Tara Cortner, president and CEO of Disause, told USA Today. Disause produces original licensed Halloween costumes.

President Donald Trump announced tariffs in March on products made in China and other countries. Prices are fluctuating, but in China it is currently at 30%.

“The order resumed when the tariff suspension began at a 30% rate in China,” Kourtner said.

As a result, she says, “There are fewer products in the market this year.” Production time was lost, and retailers reduced quantities in anticipation of rising retail prices.

Some retailers have already begun offering Halloween items as of June and as a marketing strategy “as a hedge against trade risk,” says Marketing 411.

Yes, what is “in the summer”?

Summerween is helping retailers maximize seasonal sales, USA Today reported last year. Businesses are discovering that people enjoy planning Halloween displays well before their holidays.

Halloween itself shows the changing seasons and the ghost of death. European immigration has brought festivals to North America such as Samhain and other death compliance.

Holidays indicate the transition from summer to falls. “The days are shortening, the trees are washing their leaves and things are beginning to die,” says Matras. “Halloween is like an amplification of mortality. During this season, we humans remember the inevitability of death.”

According to terrorism management theory, that perception creates the fundamental existential fear that we are trying to deal with.

“We’re trying to manage this anxiety in several different ways,” says Matras. Buying things is one of them.

The FBI fired an agent who was kneeling and taking photos with protesters in Washington during the 2020 racial justice protest after George Floyd’s death. Several media outlets report this.

The exact number of agents fired is unknown, but multiple outlets reported that they could be over 20. The Washington Post reported that the shooting included a senior FBI official.

An FBI spokesman declined to comment on Saturday.

In a statement to ABC News, the Association of FBI Agents, a nonprofit advocacy group representing the department’s employees, indicated that more than a dozen agents, some of whom were military veterans, have been fired. The statement denounced the termination as “illegal” and said it “violated the agent’s due process rights,” making it even more difficult to recruit and retain agents.

The agent went to his knees at a demonstration in Washington, DC on June 4, 2020. Angry protesters – surpassing agents – urged them to kneel after exceeding agents. According to CNN, members of the National Guard had previously kneeled during the protest in a similar situation.

President Donald Trump urged then-President General Bill Barr to regain control of the streets. Barr ordered the FBI and other agencies to deploy agents to help control and protect federal buildings.

Photos of the kneeling agent have been flooded social media. Critics declared evidence of the FBI’s liberal bias.

After an internal review, the department’s leadership determined that the agent had not violated any particular policies and that no disciplinary action was required.

FBI Director Kash Patel vowed to eradicate political bias within the FBI, causing waves of termination, forced departures, resignations and demonstrations.

Former acting FBI director Brian Driscoll Jr. and two other exiled FBI officials Stephen Jensen and Spencer Evans filed a 68-page lawsuit earlier this month, alleging that they were illegally fired in an effort to turn the agency into a White House arm. The lawsuit, filed against Patel, FBI Attorney General, Attorney General Pam Bondy, the Justice Department and the Trump administration, alleges that their dismissal was politically motivated retaliation and violated constitutional and legal rights.

Patel denied that the shooting was politically motivated.

He told members of the Senate Judiciary Committee last week that everyone he fired from the FBI had not met the department’s standards so far.
