Can the Dodgers be stopped? Otani, LA notified MLB on Playoff SlugFest

  • Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandez hit two Homer in the Dodgers game 1 romp.
  • Blake Snell was captivated by the Dodgers’ postseason debut.
  • Yoshinobu Yamamoto has a chance to start and clinch Game 2 of Dodgers.

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Dodgers players couldn’t even praise the biggest postseason power show they’ve ever witnessed, not distrustful of Tuesday night and laughing at occasional laughs.

If Shohei ohtani wasn’t hitting a 100 mph fastball and left a bat at a record 117.7 mph, Otani slammed Homer at night, the longest in Dodgers’ postseason history.

If Tecker Hernandez hit a home run on the left field and didn’t spin the bat like a bat before an epic flip, it would only praise Hernandez as he hit a home run on the right field and he took a leisurely walk.

By the end of the night, the Dodgers’ 10-5 loss through the Cincinnati Reds had been completed, and the Dodgers tied their franchise postseason record with five home runs, totaling 1,997 feet, making it the fifth set for Otani and Hernandez to hit a postseason game twice or homemer.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Tommy Edman, the Dodgers’ second baseman. “There are a lot of home runs, and that’s the explosive nature of our offense.”

And, well, the power of their stars.

“I think it’s a clutch gene,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “I don’t think they’re afraid to fail. They like the spotlight, and that’s a really good heartbeat for them in those big moments.”

The Dodgers were the team everyone feared when they opened the season with all stars and a $416 million salary, and are back to the most frightening team that enters October.

They’ve finished the season and won 15 of their last 20 games, showing everyone that the World Series is still running through Los Angeles.

They crushed the Reds and Ace’s Hunter Green and produced 15 hits, including six that appeared on the extra base. If the Dodgers continue to play something like this, even in the bullpen that their fans booed, they might want to start planning another parade.

“We’ve been playing really good baseball for the last few weeks,” Hernandez said. “We knew we could do, especially at such a big moment. The focus is always there, but as players, I think we’ll get more when the playoffs start.”

Otani set the tone when he made the Reds’ Ace Hunter Green deep deep on the first fourth pitch.

“That’s the organization that’s why he signed with this ball club,” Roberts said. “To play in a game like this.

If this is just the beginning, wait until your stakes grow even larger, as it suggests that this attack may not be stopped.

“Overall, we were able to move the guys, seeing the lineup,” Otani said.

Yes, when it gets 5-0 in three innings and 8-0 in six innings, that qualifies as a flow.

“I think Shohei’s leadoff homer was big,” Roberts said. “I think the shutdown innings from the break was a big one, and I thought there was a really good game plan with Hunter from the start, and when he made a mistake, he didn’t miss the pitch.

“Hunter (Green) is one of the really, really talented pitchers in the game and I think it’s pretty impressive to get to him like we did.”

The Dodgers tell us that it started with Otani, and once he was home, they never stopped. Hernandez, who hit a .429 during a seven-game postseason batting, hit two home runs over a span of three pitches. Freddie Freeman has arrived at bass three times. Enrique Hernandez has produced several singles.

“I mean, I don’t have any more Shohei words,” said Dodgers’ shortstop Mookie Betts.

It was the 15th time the Dodgers have scored more than 10 runs in a postseason game, and it was their 11th victory in the last 14 postseason games, dating back to last year’s Division Series against the San Diego Padres.

“We’re playing,” Betts said, “Dodger baseball.”

Pet debt is on the rise. Can regular Americans still afford it?

0

play

  • Recent reports show that the lifetime cost of owning a cat or dog exceeds $30,000, which can lead to financial burdens for many owners.
  • Many owners have skipped the veterinary care they need for the cost, and most cannot afford to buy more than $1,000 to save lives.

Several recent reports point to plain conclusions. Maybe pets are just for the rich.

One in five pet owners have at least $2,000 pet debt, according to a June survey of 1,000 American pet owners commissioned by MetLife Pet Insurance. One in seven people experience “pet poverty” and struggle to meet their basic needs while caring for their pets.

A recent report from Rover in the Pet Care Market found that the lifetime cost of pet care reached around $32,000 and about $35,000 for dogs.

A 2024 survey by personal financial site LendingTree shows that almost a quarter of pet owners are afraid of being excluded from pet ownership. Two-fifths of owners say their current pet will be their last.

“If you have pets and don’t take costs seriously, you’re hurting yourself and your pet,” said Matt Schultz, chief consumer finance analyst at Lendingtree.

Pets are family, whether expensive or not

Perhaps your pet has never enjoyed a more highly regarded position in an American home. According to an industry report by the American PET Products Association, it includes at least 100 million households, up to 82 million in 2023.

A recent report from Investopedia shows that two Americans consider pets to be components of American dreams.

More than ever, Americans consider pets to be family. In a recent survey by Trust & Will, 62% of respondents said that pets and humans should be treated the same in their real estate planning.

However, pets are becoming more expensive. Rover reports that owning a large dog costs an average of $5,295 a year. Cat emergency room visits can cost up to $1,850.

A recent survey by Petsmart’s charity and Gallup found that more than half of pet owners who refused required veterinary care or denied veterinary care or denied recommended treatment have been skipped.

Most pet parents said they couldn’t afford more than $1,000 to cover life-saving treatments.

“There’s a difficult decision you don’t want to think about. Can I pay to take care of my pet?” Schultz said.

Pet care costs are rising rapidly

Veterinary costs have risen by more than 60% since 2014, the report says.

Of course, prices are rising everywhere. But they are rising faster in some sectors of the pet industry, industry experts say.

Covid-19 sparked the “pandemic pet” boom, with millions of Americans recruiting cats and dogs for dating in quarantine and remote work.

All of these new pet owners needed a veterinarian. However, the nation faces a continuing shortage of veterinary surgeries, driven in part by work pressure, long hours and low wages.

“There are few veterinarians. Many of them have left the industry,” said Dr. Rebecca Greenstein, veterinary advisor at Rover. “There are far fewer veterinary technicians and nurses, so there’s a fundamental power of supply and demand while playing,” he says, pushing prices up.

Veterinary care is more refined, among other areas, including the growing veterinary specialization in anesthesia, emergency medicine, dermatology and internal medicine. Veterinary MRIS and CT scans are more common along with attendant costs.

Is pet insurance worth the cost?

One way to cover these costs is to acquire debt. The other is to buy pet insurance. According to Nerdwallet, more than 6.4 million US dogs and cats were covered in pet insurance in 2024 in 2024.

It’s not cheap. Annual premiums averaged around $749 for dogs and $386 for cats in 2024 for accidents and illness coverage, Nerdwallet reports. Prices for old pets increase dramatically.

Like human insurance, pet insurance generally comes with deductions, coverage restrictions and exclusions.

The horrifying costs of veterinary care provide a strong argument for pet insurance, some experts say, especially when purchasing insurance policies when your pet is relatively young and healthy.

“I think pet insurance is an important part of pet ownership these days, but I wouldn’t have said it five or ten years ago,” Greenstein said.

If you are considering pet insurance, she said, be sure to read the detailed print. The policy doesn’t cover what they’re doing very differently.

When the Consumer Report recently assessed 14 pet insurance providers, no one enjoyed a particularly high overall satisfaction score from policyholders. Their analysis suggests that typical policyholders will even break more or less in the end.

Are some Americans too tied to buying pets?

Given the rising costs of pet ownership, are some Americans too financially tied up to own pets?

“It’s a really rewarding question to answer,” Greenstein said. “I see a lot of people who are in extremely financially unstable positions to have animals in their lives.”

Meanwhile, she said, “I personally believe that what a pet brings to your life is difficult to value.”

Schulz from Lendingtree believes that all pet owners should balance the risks of pet debt and balance those valuable rewards.

“It’s like having kids,” he said. “You know it’s going to be expensive, but it’s possible that you really don’t have a thought until you actually get in.”

How to save money on veterinary care

Here are some money-saving pet tips from Dr. Carolyn Brown, Vice President of Community Medicine at ASPCA.

  • Do not skip the annual pet exam. Treatment is more expensive than preventing illness.
  • Learn about the difference between optional and essential vaccines. Never skip the required ones.
  • Castration or castration of your pet. This procedure saves money by preventing serious health issues.
  • Start a dental routine to keep your pet’s teeth and gums healthy. Dental disease can lead to heart and kidney problems.
  • Protects against fleas and mites.

The Yankees have problems with Red Sox as long as Boston has Alex Cola

0

play

  • The Red Sox won 3-1 in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series at Yankee Stadium.
  • Boston manager Alex Cora pressed all the right buttons later in the innings.
  • The Red Sox are looking to win their fourth straight postseason series vs. rival Yankees.

New York – The Bronx still has issues with the Boston Red Sox. And that won’t go away, at least as long as Alex Cora hosts the Boston dugout.

Certainly, has it been 20 years since the Red Sox completed their biggest playoff comeback in baseball history? -This is enough time to reunion, documentaries and seem like yesterday.

But forget about the idiot. This is about Kora and his management counterpart Aaron Boone, and three playoff meetings in eight years, all of which have left decisively in favor of Boston.

In Game 1 of the American League Wildcard Series on September 30th, Kora and Boone tried to solve the same problem. He is the dominant left-hander of the other mounds.

They loaded the lineup along with right-handed batters. Preparing to stretch the ace, Garrett Cloche and Max Fly are a little longer than they were comfortable, calling only the best saviors.

All textbooks for playoff baseball, 21st– Century Style.

But once again, it all worked out for Cora – Boone contemplated What-if and Whys, suddenly staring at his 94-win team.

The Yankees have won more than five games this season than the Red Sox, giving them the right to host the series. However, postseason baseball was collage time, and he got Boone better as the Red Sox gathered in the seventh inning to score a spectacular spot in this 3-1 victory and the driver’s seat in this best sprint.

No one has returned from a 1-0 deficit to win one of the 12 wildcard series in three seasons of this format. On the surface, the Yankees have a slight edge in Game 2.

But they also need to make up for it by shifting it with the dugout, which cements his reputation as one of the greatest things ever.

Definitely: Crochet played a much greater role than the person who presses the button. At the start of his first playoffs, the 6-7 sidewinding left-hander threw a career-high 117 pitch and glanced back at the scoreboard to see that he still blew 100 mph of heat when he blew Austin Wells on the final pitch in the eighth innings.

“He’s the best pitcher in the game,” admitted Yankees slugger Judge Aaron. This is a somewhat controversial but completely acceptable point regarding the man who hit the Major League High 255 and retired the 16 straight Yankees after Anthony Volpe’s second homer.

That’s a great thing for Croche, who founded the postseason beachhead in Boston, following Cora-Era Aces such as Chris Sale, David Price, and Nathan Eovaldi.

Still, let’s think about what Cora did and what he did in Game 1.

This guy is currently 18-8 as postseason manager. I am mostly grateful that the club won the World Series title in 2018.

And against the Yankees?

He is now 5-1 in three postseasons, with both Cora and Boone being rookie managers, and both the Red Sox are clearly good teams, 5-1 in three postseasons when he did a quick job at New York with the ALDS.

However, the 2021 wild card game coincided with Eobaldi with Yankee Ace Gerit Cole, and the Red Sox were caught up in a six-game ALCS loss to the ultimate champion Houston Astros team.

Fast forward to Game 1 in 2025 and consider the results produced by both skippers.

The presence of crochet forced him to bench among the 30-30 Jazz Chisholm and first bass man/catcher Ven Rice – the hottest hitters of left-handed swingers and Yankees.

Kora decided to keep them there.

He pushed the crochet to the brink and handed the ball directly to Aroldis Chapman, who was close to his left hand in the eighth. Chapman had to survive the situation mounted on the ninth base, but Kora’s aggression served that purpose.

Yes, he skipped Garrett Whitlock, the dominant set-up guy. But what do you guess? At least Chisholm and Rice didn’t move until Chisholm’s left-to-left pinch appeared in Chapman. And the Yankees managed just seven hits (one for extra bass) and one hit.

“Rice was there. It’s not that I don’t trust Whitlock against him, but I trust Chappie against the right,” says Kora.

“That’s what we prepared and talked about before the game. Hey, our left-handers are really good (Justin) Wilson and Chapman, and (Steven) Mads. If we can keep the right wing in the lineup and take the chance, we’re going to do that.”

Has Max Freed become deeper?

Now consider that Yankees’ season may have died in last year’s Yankees savior, Luke Weaver, rather than the close-deep-fried David Bedner on the mound.

Kora faced the same lineup problems as Boone: left-handed sluggers Masataka Yoshida, Nathaniel Lowe and Wily Abreu were reduced to the audience, while the Red Sox had no blackmail judge or Giancarlo Stanton on the roster.

Nate Eaton (one home run), Rob Levsnider, Romy Gonzalez (9 each), Carlos Narvaès (15), Julen Duran and Ceddan Rafaela (16 each) created soft pockets throughout the Red Sox lineup.

But Boone invited them – and Boston attacked.

Protecting the 1-0 lead, Boone decided to fry on 102 pitches, once seventh, with practical modern baseball moves like the Yankees pay Boone to run. Freed’s fourth and sixth pitch of 24 and 20th pitches – covered in double plays – suggested that his gas tank was empty.

“I came to the dugout and Booney looked at me and said, ‘How’s your mood?’ Freed said as he watched the seventh innings about the aftermath of the sixth innings. “He said, ‘Have you been enough for Duran?’ And I said, yeah, whatever you needed.

“I was clearly clear enough with him and with him what they needed me, I’m pleased.”

Boone of the sequence states:

Instead, it all got it all out.

Weaver couldn’t finish Rafaela. Rafaela went for one walk, with the appearance of an 11-pitch plate. Soguard then plunged the ball into the gap in the middle field on the right, squeezing out the judge’s breached throwing arm and exploiting the double of hustle.

Suddenly, the Red Sox had a victory and victory tied together in a scoring position. And Cora was forced by the minimum of three batters, facing another man, and finally had the advantage of a platoon.

Yoshida is a holdover from the previous Red Sox administration who signed a $90 million contract added to both injured and inactive performances until a medium-resurgence this season. This was his moment, he capitalized and sent home a mess of running as he pushed the weaver’s fastball up into the center field in the zone.

Suddenly, the 1-0 Yankees were turned over in a fuss courtesy of Boston, both on the scoreboard and perhaps the series. And yet another shaming for modern baseball orthodoxy, Kora sent Crochet and his 100 pitches for the eighth time.

“We wanted to respect that decision,” Crochet says. “I felt like he had a lot of faith in me this year, and I haven’t disappointed him yet.

“So I was going to be sure this wasn’t the first time.”

That wasn’t the case. He handed Chapman the fourth Trent Grisham strikeout of Grisham’s night and a well around Volpe’s single. The 9th four outs and three yankee singles – later the Red Sox paved the way to victory.

And the Yankees were left to turn history.

Rice and Chisholm should be back in Game 2. However, Bello is on track with a 1.44 ERA with five career starts at Yankee Stadium. The Red Sox now have an overwhelming history of wildcard series.

In addition to what appears to be a growing advantage in a dugout.

“He’s also an incredible coach, and I think they take on his character and I think they’re playing hard for him,” Boone said of Kora before Game 1.

“It’s a homage to who he is and how he runs things.”

And so far, Cola has been running the Yankees another early winter.

The ju-degree rejected the woman’s claim, and Uber was blamed for her sexual assault

0

play

CHICAGO — Uber says California ju umpire is not responsible for the sexual assault of a woman on September 30 who said she was attacked by a driver on a ride she ordered from the app, according to the plaintiff’s lawyer.

At the end of a three-week civil trial in San Francisco Superior Court, the ju judge rejected the woman’s argument that Uber was blamed for her attack.

The case was the first to go to trial from more than 500 cases consolidated in California courts. There are also more than 2,500 cases making similar allegations centralised in federal courts in California.

The woman who attended Jessica C in court sued in 2021, claiming she was assaulted by an Uber driver in 2016. During the ride, her driver pulled away on the side roads, restrained, groped and kissed.

Her case was chosen to serve as the first “original” of state court cases. In cases with many plaintiffs who have similar claims, they use pioneer trials to test claims and establish what they are worth. The judge can use the outcome of the trial to manage the remaining cases. Alternatively, the attorney can use them to notify you of the settlement negotiations.

The female lawyer had sought compensatory damages from the ju apprentice of $175,000 to $1.2 million each year of her life. They did not propose a number of punitive damages.

Spotlight safety practices

The lawsuit alleges that Uber was aware that the driver was attacking riders, but it maintained data on the number of attacks that occurred from the public and failed to take steps to address the issue.

The plaintiffs argued that although they knew that Uber would reduce attacks, including assigning female riders to female drivers and requesting dash cams to record driver-passenger interactions, they could not implement such a program widely.

Uber argues that background checks and disclosures about assault should not be liable for criminal activity by drivers connecting with passengers.

The lawsuit threatens to resume wounds from Uber’s early days when the company is hit by safety controversy, claims for LAX driver reviews, and growth that is prioritized over protecting passengers.

With its potentially costing hundreds of millions of dollars, the results have complicated relationships with regulators and investors who weighed Uber’s balance sheets and closely tracked their safety records.

The company has been focusing on safety in recent years, releasing a US safety report that details have reported that they have reported sexual assaults, verifying ride comfort within the app, riding video and audio recordings, anomaly detection, and partnering with Survivor Advocacy Group.

Uber has also promoted the creation of a Safety Advisory Committee, chaired by former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson, and pledged $10 million through its “Drive Change” initiative to support organizations working to end gender-based violence.

Despite these measures, Uber’s safety reputation remains vulnerable. Uber, which covers the 2021-2022 period in its latest safety report released last year, said that since its first report in 2017-2018, reports of serious sexual assaults against the platform have fallen by 44%. However, with thousands of cases still documented, critics say there is still systematic risk.

The U.S. House subcommittee, urged by the New York Times’ August report on the issue, wrote to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi last week for information on the company’s protocols to prevent sexual assault on rides.

If you or you have experienced sexual violence, Rainn’s National Sexual Assault Hotline provides free, secret, 24/7 support to survivors and their loved ones in English and Spanish: 800.656.hope (4673) and hotline.rainn.org and enespañolainn.org/es.

Dodgers Clobber Reds in MLB Playoffs Game 1. What’s next in Philadelphia?

0

play

LOS ANGELES – It was a shot that left the shells behind by the Cincinnati Reds.

The ball went in at 100.4 mph.

It was sent at a spectacular 117.7 mph.

Shohei Ohtani circled the base and he was the first batter of the Los Angeles Dodgers night on Tuesday, but at that point the game was almost over.

And by the end of the night, the Dodgers had crushed the Reds 10-5 and hit five homers, including two Otani and outfielder Tescol Hernandez, who were checking the temperatures in Philadelphia. Why, they pack suitcases for a trip to play the Phillies in the National League Division Series soon.

Ah, certainly, we need to win two games in these three wildcard series, but in the way the Dodgers dominated the Reds in Game 1 in front of 50,555 at Dodger Stadium, they didn’t plan to make this the shortest series possible.

After three innings, the Dodgers knocked Reds ace Hunter Green out of the game, punishing him with three home runs, and Dodgers starter Blake Snell put on the pitching clinic.

The last time Snell faced the Reds was on August 2, 2024 with the San Francisco Giants, pitching his first career no hitter.

The Reds all produced one hit that night, attacking nine times in the first six innings.

Snell’s dominance over the Reds is so ridiculous that when the Reds finally snapped a 29 postseason scoreless streak, they were 42-1 against Snell, who returned to no hits.

This is the average batting of .029.

Snell pitched seven innings, giving up four hits and two runs on nine strikeouts, then pitched 91 pitches.

The Dodgers are hoping to send Yoshinobu Yamamoto against Red Starter Zack Rittel on Wednesday night to close the series and save Otani for Game 1 of the NL Division Series with the Phillies.

Of course, the Reds knew this was David vs. Goliath before the series began.

The Dodgers won the NL West title 12 times in 13 years, winning four pennants and two World Series championships during this stretch.

The Dodgers had six All-Stars in their starting lineup, one on the bench. There were three MVPs in the lineup, one of which didn’t create a playoff roster.

The Reds have one All-Star in their lineup, and the last MVP won an award 15 years ago and retired.

This is the Reds’ first postseason appearance in a full season since 2013. He hasn’t even won the Postseason Series since 1995.

The Dodgers have a luxurious tax salary of $416 million.

The Reds pays $119 million.

So, yes, you do math.

“I don’t know, I don’t think I’ve raised it all year round,” Reds manager Terry Francona said of their pay gaps. So you try not to make many of them.

“When the game starts, no one cares about what you’re making. That’s what I love about it. Let’s play baseball.”

Well, the Dodgers, with five players on the field making at least $20 million, did it and showed why they made a big dollar.

“That’s why I came here,” Snell said. “Get arriving in the postseason and see how good I can do… To face the best when the stakes are the best, that’s what I’ve always wanted.”

For Ohtani, he once again showed why his $700 million contract is worth everything. Since MLB began using Statcast in 2015, he not only produced the most intense Homer at 100 mph per hour, but also smacked a 454-foot homer mid-pavilion in six innings by right-handed Reeler Connor Phillips.

The Dodgers became the fifth team in postseason history, with two players producing a multi-homer game.

Calling “cockroaches” who can’t kill themselves, the Reds showed what would happen if they could at least enter the Dodgers bullpen, and were tied to a circle of decks until Jack Dreyer finally closed the door.

The Reds hope that their comeback bid will have a carryover that goes into Game 2, and the Dodgers want to believe that their bullpen misery is merely a blip.

In the meantime, this weekend’s forecast in Philadelphia is a refreshing 77 degrees without rain.

The Dodgers might want to pack sunscreen.

X: Follow NightEngale at @BignyEngale

The Reds pushed three runs to make it 10-5, loaded the base and tied it to the circle on the deck with just one in the top of the eighth. However, Jack Dreyer got Tyler Stevenson and Kebrian Hayes to escape the jam.

After giving up two runs at the top of the seventh, the Dodgers scored twice at the bottom of the frame, running on a slow error before winning a Ben Roat Bed RBI single.

Cincinnati got on the board at the seventh top in the RBI when Ellie de la Cruz hit an RBI groundout against Blake Snell to score with a Tyler Stevenson RBI double, reducing the Reds’ deficit to 8-2.

Snell comes after seven great innings, giving up four hits and two runs in a walk in the Dodgers’ first start of the postseason with nine strikeouts and one walk.

Shohei Ohtani, who took a 6-0 lead in six innings, crushed a 454-foot two-run home run from Connor Phillips in Cincinnati for his second home run.

The Dodgers are the fifth team to have two players each hit multiple home runs in the same postseason game, according to Sarah Langs.

Already a big hit in third place for the Dodgers’ four-run homer, Tecker Hernandez hit a solo homer on the opposing field from red’s reliever Scott Barlow at the bottom of the fifth, expanding the Dodgers’ lead to 6-0.

Reds ace Hunter Green was replaced by Scott Barlow to start four innings, ending Green’s postseason debut. The 26-year-old right-hander gave up six hits (three of which home runs) and five runs acquired, earning four strikeouts and two walks.

Last year’s World Series hero Tecker Hernandez hit a three-run homer from Hunter Green on the bottom for the third time, with Tommy Edman following on solo shots to extend the Dodgers’ lead to 5-0.

LOS ANGELES – Dodgers MVP shoe, hei ohtani, who played one healthy shoulder in the World Series last year, reminded everyone that this postseason can be done when he’s healthy.

Otani jumped to the Cincinnati Reds’ Ace Hunter Green’s 100 mph fastball and sent it to the right field pavilion moving 117.7 mph from his bat in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series.

Blake Snell hit Red’s leadoff hitter TJ Friedle to start Game 1 at Dodger Stadium. Snell played in his 13th career postseason, pitching the Rays and Padres for 48 seconds innings or Rays.

Five homes collapse as North Carolina coast slums Imelda and Humbel

Huge and rough waves from two long-range hurricanes have washed away five homes in North Carolina’s outer bank, and the National Park Service says more destruction is possible as the ocean hits the coast.

According to Park Service, it collapsed within 45 minutes on September 30th along the Hatteras National Coast Cape and collapsed along the Hatteras National Coast within 45 minutes. The large waves and high seas from Hurricanes Imelda and Humbel are expected to last for several more days.

“Buxton at the Battle of Bars” said Danny Couch, a real estate agent and former county commissioner from Outer Banks. “The sea is furious.”

No injuries have been reported, coast confirmed.

Another home was washed down into the ocean on September 16th, according to the National Coast.

Surf heights were estimated at 8 to 12 feet on September 30, said Tom Ronka, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Morehead City. Surf is expected to be “very dangerous due to the big broken waves” throughout the week, the Weather Bureau said in its evening forecast.

The rough conditions are “ongoing incidents,” and could further collapse, National Seashore said in a news release on September 30.

Videos and photos of this week’s Outer Bank’s spectacular shutter photos show the ocean under a long line in the beachfront house.

All beachfront areas are closed in Buxton for public safety, and the coast warned people not to get close to them and warned them to take caution along the outer bank south of Buxton.

“The highly dangerous conditions are expected to continue for the next 24 hours, and visitors should be away from the closed areas,” the national park said. “Coast visitors are asked to stay away from the location of the collapsed home and be aware of the miles south of the site due to the presence of potentially dangerous debris.”

Which house has collapsed?

If a house collapses, dangerous situations arise, such as cleaning building materials, glass, air conditioners, and more.

On the National Coast, it said 46001, 46002 and 47007 on cottage avenues and 46001, 46002 and 47007 on Tower Circle Roads, collapsed.

Some of the houses that have collapsed over the past two years have once returned from the beach, but the dynamic nature of barrier islands and sea level rise has seriously eroded the beach sections. Local officials, property owners and insurance companies have struggled for years about how to handle the blame and removal of homes, and how to deal with the erosion itself.

White House withdraws economists selected to lead the US employment data office

The White House said it will release a new pick “very soon” to lead the Bureau of Labor Statistics after Trump withdraws EJ Antoni’s nomination.

play

WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 (Reuters) – The Trump administration has withdrawn the nomination of conservative economist Eji Antoni as director of Labor Statistics, the White House said Tuesday.

President Donald Trump last month nominated Antoni to lead a department that is part of the Labor Department to fire the director and then criticized her without manipulating the department’s figures before generating closely monitored statistics in the market.

“Dr. Eji Antoni is a great economist, an American patriot and an American patriot who continues to do good work on behalf of our great nation,” a White House official said in a statement, pledging the president to “announce a new candidate soon.”

The Senate Committee, which oversees the Labor Bureau, had no plans to make a confirmation hearing, so on Sept. 30, Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Markowski said she was concerned about Antoni’s nomination. Those familiar with the nomination said other Republicans expressed similar hesitation.

CNN first reported that the administration had taken Antoni’s nomination.

Antoni is currently the Chief Economist of the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation and a critic of the BLS, whose monthly job market and inflation reports are used by global audiences of economists, investors, business leaders, public policy makers and consumers.

The United States was hiding towards a government shutdown on September 30 after a failed vote to extend funds past the midnight deadline in the US Senate. The shutdown will delay the release of employment numbers for September, which will be announced on Friday.

Antoni’s appointment has sparked concern among economists regarding the quality of BLS data.

“The candidates will see a surge in demand for private label data,” said Joe Brusseras, chief economist at RSM US.

Antoni’s choice is a clear attack on independent analysis that has a widespread impact on the reliability of US economic data,” said Alex Jacquez, director of policy and advocacy for basic cooperation, who says he is fighting “to change economic policies and narratives to build public power.”

The BLS is under scrutiny by Republicans after Trump suffered trouble with the data. Sen. Bill Cassidy, Republican chair of the committee that oversees the verification process, said in a statement that “current Quo” is not working with employment data.

When Trump fired Mcentarfer on August 1, it was added to growing concerns about the reliability of BLS and other federal government economic data. Her firing comes hours after reporting that the historically large employment growth in July, May and June employment numbers was far weaker.

Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and Seth Myers unite in Trump digging

Three recent television set up United for a brief, simple excavation with President Donald Trump.

“The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert and “Late Night” star Seth Meyers joined Jimmy Kimmel for a social media post captioned “Hi Donald!”

In a special talk show crossover, Colbert was the guest on the episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on September 30th. However, the photos show that Meyers made a surprising appearance while taping the show.

Like Kimmel, both Colbert and Myers were Trump critics, in solidarity with “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The hosts after ABC temporarily suspended the show after criticism from Brendan Kerr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, where Trump was appointed.

Kerr reflected complaints from broadcast titans Sinclair Broadcasting Group and Nexter Media Group over Kimmel’s controversial comments about Charlie Kirk’s fatal shooting. On September 26, the companies halted talk shows preemption across the ABC station after they refused to broadcast the show, even after Disney and ABC regained it.

Colbert celebrated Kimmel’s show’s return on September 22nd episode of “The Late Show,” saying “Our long national late night is over.”

“Great news from my dear friend Jimmy and his amazing staff. You’re so happy with them. Plus, Jimmy hasn’t been cancelled so you can enjoy this again,” he said.

Trump has not withheld any minor dares against Kimmel, Colbert or Myers, and is threatening to sue ABC after celebrating the July cancellation of “Late Show” and bringing “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Returns to the air. Truthfully societal, Trump suggested that Myers and Jimmy Fallon should both host the show on NBC next.

“American great news: the rated Jimmy Kimmelshaw is cancelled. Congratulations to ABC for giving us the courage to do what we have to do in the end,” Trump wrote on September 18th.

What does shutdown mean for student loans, Pell grants and FAFSA?

0

play

  • Potential government shutdowns are looming as lawmakers are stuck in the 2026 federal budget.
  • The Department of Education plans to dump about 95% of its non-federal student aid staff in its first week.
  • Student loan payments will continue to be paid, and Pell’s grants and federal direct student loans will continue to be paid.

The Department of Education, alongside other institutions, is preparing for the possibility of government shutdowns as Democrats and Republicans remain stuck in the 2026 federal budget.

Democrats want to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidy, but Republicans aim to stop undocumented immigrants from receiving federal health benefits, requiring 80 hours of work or volunteer services a month to qualify.

The deadline to avoid a shutdown is midnight on October 1st. Without a transaction, “non-essential” government functions will close or reduce staffing from 12:01am

The department plans to dump about 95% of its non-federal student aid staff in the first week of the shutdown. The department also plans to dump about 85% of the Federal Student Aid Office staff, leaving 115 employees to perform important work for the office.

The threat of a shutdown comes after President Donald Trump’s administration cut about half of the department’s workforce in March, and credit scores for millions of borrowers fell behind in payments.

More issues will arise if Washington delays contracts for a long time, according to Persis You, the assistant executive director and managing counsel at the Student Borrower Conservation Center.

“This moment is actually very important in the student loan cycle because we are in the cusp of millions of borrowers who default on student loans,” Yu said. “Borrowers need more services than ever.”

Something that never changes

Shutdowns do not allow borrowers to make loan advancements, as they require payments to excellence in their student debt.

According to the department’s contingency plan, the department will continue to pay Pell grants and federal direct student loans.

If available, permanent and multi-year budgets will also be used to continue processing federal student aid or FAFSA free applications, the plan says.

Betsy Mayotto, president and founder of the Student Loan Advisors Institute, said borrowers should be able to ask questions to loan servicers and vendors during the short shutdown.

“What’s suspicious is whether the shutdown lasted very long, that is, if it was weeks or months,” Mayotto said.

Private student loan lenders and servicers, which generally operate independently, should not be affected by the closure.

What will change

During the funding process, the department will suspend new grantmaking activities. However, the plan states that most departmental grant programs “usually award awards in the summer, so the impact is limited.”

Debt relief programs and initiatives can also be affected if staff are unable to process their applications. On September 16, the Federation of American Teachers (AFT) filed a preliminary injunction in a lawsuit against the department, claiming it had suspended the cancellation and processing of statutory necessary loans for public service loans.

“It’s really urgent for borrowers who have already given the right to cancel their loans to ensure that cancellations are processed by the end of the year,” Yu said. “If not, they could face thousands of dollars of extra tax liability.”

President Randy Weingern said the shutdown would make “an already interfering situation” much worse.

“The shutdown means that there will be even less monitoring of loan servicers, ending borrowers’ help when things go wrong, and exacerbating the already broken and understaffed system,” Weingarten said in a statement to USA Today. “Over 1 million borrowers with applications sitting on someone’s desk will see even greater delays.

Borrowers with disputes over loans may have difficulty reaching the department with most staff, Yu added.

“Navigating the conflict is already difficult and likely not possible in the case of a shutdown,” she said.

What borrowers should know

Yu said advice to borrowers will remain the same during the closure. Find out who your servicer is and keep records and try to change plans every time you reach out to pay.

“Do everything,” Yu said. “If things don’t go well, that’s very important.”

Mayott said most borrowers “do not feel” the shutdown if the previous shutdown continues as long as it has.

“Remember that most of the features are done by external vendors, and will at least continue for the foreseeable future,” Mayotto said. “If for any reason the shutdown continues for a very long time, start paying attention to the dusttantaid.gov website and see if anything changes.”

If the shutdown continues for more than a week, the Director of Budget Services in the Planning, Evaluation, and Policy Development Office will be responsible for coordinating the department’s plans.

Do federal workers qualify for unemployment during the closure?

0

play

Congress and President Donald Trump have the time and even fewer options to reach a funding agreement to avoid causing partial government shutdowns.

In the event of a shutdown, government functions, which are deemed as unnecessarily necessary, like national parks, will close or reduce staffing, but critical government services such as military and law enforcement will continue to work.

Here’s what federal government employees should know about applying for unemployment benefits during government closures:

What does it mean and what does it mean?

Mandatory Houlaf is, according to the Human Resources Administration (OPM), “positioning employees in temporary, non-payment, non-payment status due to lack of work, funds, or other non-interdisciplinary reasons.” If the agency does not have sufficient funds, as if the government was shut down, a “closure” occurs, and employees are suspended from work by “exceptions” or essentially unclassified employees.

Technically, the affected federal workers are still employed, but depending on the state’s unemployment rules, they may be able to get temporary jobs elsewhere during their holidays.

Do FURLOUGHED federal workers qualify for unemployment?

If an agency within the US government begins to close, some government workers may qualify for the unemployment rate for federal employees (UCFEs) who follow the same rules as state unemployment benefits. To find state contact information, visit http://www.servicelocator.org.

Employees may need to provide proof of wages, such as revenue or resignation, or may need to form an SF-50 and may be asked to provide the SF-8 format.

Most states pay regular benefits up to 26 weeks. The maximum unemployment benefits are determined by state law.

Usually, benefits begin to be paid 14-21 days after the request is filed.

Do “Exception” or “Required” employees qualify for unemployment?

Employees designated as “exception” or “essential” are not eligible for unemployment benefits unless their employment is affected by expenditure breaks, as defined by the Office of Management and Budget.

According to the Human Resources Administration, this category often includes military personnel, law enforcement, transportation safety personnel, emergency services, emergency services, medical staff, power assistant officers, social security professionals, Medicare employees and service workers in the United States.

See which Democrats broke the rank to fund the government

0

A small number of democratic exiles highlighted hints of a rift within the party’s moderate faction as closure approached.

play

WASHINGTON – As clocks were etched into a partial government shutdown on September 30, Senate Democrats voted for a fundraising measure to support Republicans, which had kept the lights down.

John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Katherine Cortez Mast of Nevada will cast support behind the GOP bill and will keep the government open until November 21st.

“President Trump and Congressional Republicans are already hurting Nevadan, who is dealing with high costs, slowing the economy and the looming health care crisis,” Cortez Masto said in a statement after the vote. “That’s why we can’t support the costly shutdown that hurts Nevada’s families and takes even more strength into this reckless administration.”

Still, the funding extension didn’t win 55-45 votes, with all other Democrats and Senator R-Kentucky opposed. Republicans have a narrow majority in the Senate, and more than half a dozen Democrats would need to join them to overcome the Senate’s 60-vote threshold.

Early in the evening, another budget bill from the Democrats also failed with a party-affiliated vote of 47-53. The measure overturned Medicaid and public media cuts, expanded health insurance subsidies, and created safeguards to prevent the White House from withholding Congress’s allotted funds.

The relatively few exiles have emphasized the federal government’s plans to enter shutdown, highlighting general unity within the Democrats, and confronting the Trump administration at a political moment.

But it also highlighted some fearful hints among some Democrats about the possible consequences that the closure could reap for Americans, particularly federal workers. The White House is threatening civil servant layoffs on top of attack if they are closed. The agency is already on track to lose around 300,000 employees this year due to shootings, acquisitions, retirements and other departures.

How and why government closures happen this week

0

The federal government could be shut down on October 1 after President Donald Trump and Congressional leaders were postponed to 8:24pm on September 30th, after President Donald Trump and Congressional leaders failed to reach a financial compromise.

The senator would have rejected two deals, one from Democrats and the other from Republicans, which would have prevented the closure. The Republican plan kept the government open until November 21, failing with 55-45 votes, USA Today reported. You need at least 60 votes to pass.

The federal government will run out of money at the end of the fiscal year unless Congress members agree to overcome partisan differences and pass the funding bill.

The federal government has been closed 21 times in a total of 161 days since 1976. Pending closures are primarily related to medical costs.

Democrats want to prevent Obamacare subsidies from reverse cutting back on Medicaid funding enacted by Trump’s tax.

When did the government close?

The government shutdown took place between seven chairs. President Jimmy Carter spent 56 and 56 days from 1977 to 1979. Trump has the longest consecutive day in 2019, 34 days.

Can’t you see our graphics? Click here to reload the page.

This is an average of nearly 8 days per shutdown. Three closures took place during Trump’s first term, one of which lasted only a few hours.

What happens during the government shutdown?

Like any household or business, the federal government must pay the bill. If Congress cannot agree on how to make money appropriate for funding, the non-essential sector of the government will be shut down. Funds expire on September 30th.

In past closures, hundreds of thousands of federal workers, those deemed unimportant, have been sent home or sent home unpaid. When they returned they were refunded.

However, the Office of Management and Budget has directed federal agencies to prepare for large layoffs, not just temporary meals.

Employees, classified as essential to key operations in the defense, energy, agriculture and other sectors, will continue to work without pay. You will be refunded when the shutdown ends.

Who is continuing to work during the government shutdown?

OMB is noting preparations for not only temporary layoffs but large layoffs to the department and agencies, but staff at the essential agency will continue to function in the event of a closure, including:

defense: The US military and Coast Guard branches remain on duty.

Law enforcement and protection: The Secret Service, the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Bureau, etc. will not be affected.

Border Security: Most border patrol officers, immigration and customs enforcement agents, and customs officials will continue to work.

prison: Executives will remain at work.

trip: Airport transport security management agents and air transport controllers need to work.

Postal: The US postal service remains open.

tax: The IRS continues to function.

Nearly 50,000 Coast Guard employees went without paying for 35 days during the 2019 closure, according to NPR. During peacetime, the Coast Guard is the only military unit under the Department of Homeland Security.

Trader Joe, Walmart Pasta Meals May Be Related to Listeria’s Death

play

Four people have been killed, and nearly 20 people have been hospitalized due to the outbreak of Listeria related to a recall sold nationwide at Walmart, Trader Joe, Kroger and Albertsons stores.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first reported a recall that included a meal of pasta prepared on Thursday, September 25th, investigating the outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes contamination, which could lead to listeriosis and listeria poisoning.

The federal agency expanded its food safety warning this week, reporting that as of September 30, it is known that what happened in 15 states now have occurred.

What you need to know about the updated recalls includes which states reported cases of related listeriosis.

A case reported in 15 states that died from a listeria outbreak

The listeria outbreak was first announced in June, when the CDC began investigating reports of disease.

As of September 30, there were 20 confirmed cases of listeria poisoning associated with the outbreak, the CDC reported. Of these, 19 people were hospitalized and four died. In one case, pregnant women experienced fetal loss as a result of a related infection.

In addition to Utah, deaths occurred in Illinois, Michigan and Texas. Related infections include California (2 cases), Florida (1 case), Illinois (1 case), Indiana (1 case), Louisiana (2 cases), Michigan (2 cases), Minnesota (1 case), Missouri (1 case), Nevada (1 case), North Carolina (1 case), Ohio (1 case), Nevada (1 case), Nevada (1 case), Utah (1 case) and Virginia (1 case).

The numbers are only known cases and may not represent the full range of occurrence, according to the CDC.

What to do with a recalled pasta meal?

Both the CDC and the FDA advise returning affected products to the location where they are returned.

Wash and disinfect bowls, cups, storage containers and other surfaces that may have come into contact with the recalled product. Process and prepare food, especially raw or uncooked products, before washing your hands thoroughly.

What are the symptoms of Listeria poisoning?

Listeria poisoning is a food-borne bacterial infection most commonly caused by Listeria monocytogen, according to the CDC. It is considered a serious condition and can be dangerous or life-threatening, especially for the elderly, those with weak immune systems, and pregnant women.

For each CDC, symptoms include:

  • heat
  • Muscle pain
  • headache
  • Stiff shoulders
  • confusion
  • Loss of balance
  • convulsions
  • diarrhea
  • Other gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth, and/or life-threatening infections of newborn babies
  • death

According to the CDC, anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms within two months of eating contaminated food should seek medical care.

Chicago suburbs tell ice that they want

0

Life in Broadview, Illinois, has been transformed amid the crackdown on President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement. Residents who handle tear-clouds say the ice is “war” in their communities.

play

Broadview, Illinois – Katrina Thompson, mayor of a small village outside of Chicago, is home to the US immigration and customs enforcement facility, and has denounced federal agents for their intense tactics saying their presence in the area would be a “siege.”

“You’re at war in my community, and it has to stop,” Thompson said in a letter to Russell Hot, the Department of Homeland Security’s field office director. “Residents of Beleaguered Broadview are pleading for relief from the siege of our neighbourhood centre.”

Thompson held a press conference in the village hall to seek relief. President Donald Trump’s false deadline for Chicago-area immigration enforcement enforcement agencies has changed Broadview. The small village of about 8,000 people has the area’s major immigration enforcement facilities, and has become a hotbed of clashes between federal agents and anti-immigration enforcement protesters.

The tense moments between the two sides were often concluded not only with protesters and journalists, but also with federal agents deploying chemicals and other crowd control tactics. Officials at Broadview say federal agents have launched several conflicts without provocation, and village police are investigating immigration enforcement agents in three separate criminal cases.

“A lot of rhetoric comes from the White House about being strict about crime, but from where I sit, Ice produced criminal activity on Broadview,” Thompson told reporters.

Police Chief Thomas Mills also told reporters that he “verbal assaulted” him when federal agents confronted them about offensive tactics. He said the agents used blasphemy to tell him that they would cause confusion in the village accordingly.

In a statement to USA Today, Homeland Security officials said Broadview leaders are attempting to “paint” the agency and are vehemently denying any blasphemed comments to Broadview Police.

Thompson replied, saying he trusted the words of the top village police officers.

“The Ministry of Homeland Security is running a disinformation campaign that even Russians blush,” the mayor said.

The spiral tensions in Broadview come about three weeks into Trump’s blitz operation. The president says the crackdown is aimed at catching “worst and worst” immigrant criminals. Illinois leaders say the White House is preparing power grabs in the area.

Tear gas and pepper spray fallout hit the neighborhood

The Broadview immigration enforcement facility is located on an industrial strip surrounded by residential streets. There, the grass and towering Halloween skeleton look like the rest of the suburban America.

But the smell of tear gas that remains in the air indicates that the place is not as peaceful as it looks.

“No one in Broadview or in the surrounding neighborhoods wants this,” local resident Cyrus Lopez said of the immigration enforcement facility. The 20-year-old said USA Today Gus had taken him out of breath at the point. He worries about the impact that smoke will have on his younger brother: “The wind blows it into the neighborhood.”

Thompson said village residents were emailing, telephones and displaying to complain about the impact the facility is having on the area.

Many residents also complained that protesters were occupying the parking lot.

“I’m happy to see the protest as long as it doesn’t get violent,” nearby resident Lonzia Casteel told USA Today. “But man, there’s a car parked everywhere.”

Rioters or protests?

Homeland Security officials say immigration agents are appropriate under harsh conditions.

“These rioters are laying sieges and obstructing legitimate law enforcement activities,” Todd Lyons, director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in a letter to Thompson. “If we fail to provide relief, we become a party to obstruct justice. There will be no change in our operational attitude until these illegal activities cease. The only siege of Broadview is what is happening against the US government.”

Homeland Security authorities say they have arrested 34 people in connection with the protest, including three people carrying guns. Agent officials did not immediately respond to requests for further information regarding those arrested.

Agent officials also investigated federal agents in connection with the two hit and run cases and distanced them from detectives’ allegations by Broadview police investigating federal agents in connection with the damages inflicted on the property of the news reporter’s vehicle.

“Not a week after the terrorist attacks at the Dallas ice facility, Mayor Katrina Thompson, Broadview Police Chief Thomas Mills and fire chief Matt Martin have chosen to paint ice and launch a fake criminal investigation into brave ice law enforcement.” “Even after terrorist attacks and arrests on rioters outside the Broadview Ice Facility, these sanctuary politicians are disappointed that they chose to engage in political theatres to burn ice hatred.”

Federal agents are visually prominently using chemicals containing pepper spray and tear gas to disperse Chicago protesters blocking immigrant enforcement vehicles. On September 26, agents fired the chemicals to protesters and journalists standing on the road leading to an immigration enforcement facility on Broadview’s 1930 Beach Street.

The Chicago Cubs defeat the San Diego Padres to open the MLB playoffs: Highlights

0

play

The Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres will begin their National League Wild Card Series at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, September 30th, with both teams hoping to score a key lead in three sets.

At the end of the day, the Cubs won in front of the home crowd. Early on, it all looked like the Padres as the monks frequently threatened and placed them in positions where they scored a few runners, but that wasn’t enough. Seiya Suzuki and Carson Kelly’s back-to-back home runs in the five innings were the Cubs who took the lead and never looked back. The Cubs won by a 3-1 margin.

The Cubs (92-70) won the NL top wild card spot and a home field advantage over the Padres (90-72), who has made their second consecutive postseason appearances in franchise history. The two teams have not met since April and split six matchups early in the season.

The highlights of Game 1 are:

Brad Keller didn’t need much to put the Padres in the nine innings. Machudo was grounded, Meryl jumped out into the deep center and Bogartos hit. No one reached the base, so despite the Padres constantly threatening early in this game, they were unable to run to win the first game of the series.

The Cubs win, 3-1. Game 2 of the series is set for tomorrow at 3:08 PM ET.

After Dansby Swanson’s leadoff single, the Cubs did everything they could to bring him home. He advanced second in the SAC bunt from Matt Shaw. That strategy was instantly ruined when both runners went on the wild pitch after a deliberate walk to Michael Bush to set up a double play.

That allowed Nico Horner to run alone with two men in the position he scored. Hoerner hit a SAC fly and drove on Swanson, extending Chicago’s lead to 3-1.

Pressuring him to keep the lead, Andrew Kittledge became huge for the Cubs, sending the Padres down in turn at the top of the eighth. The Cubs remained 2-1 at the bottom of the 8th inning.

To keep the Cubs within one, the Padres brought out a large gun. Former Athletic Mason Miller won the mound seventh and didn’t give up on inches, including a brutal strikeout at Carson Kelly on a fastball at 103 mph.

If Miller scores the eighth mound, Chicago could be extremely difficult to score. So it’s time for San Diego to use it to tie this game together.

Heading for the eighth innings. This is a 2-1 turnip.

It was a show from Palencia in his 1.2 innings work. Despite facing the hearts of the sixth Padres lineup, Palencia was able to put both Machado and Merrill on strike. The Bogaerts gave the fastball a nice ride to deep center, but were eventually caught.

The Cubs hold a 2-1 lead at the bottom of the sixth.

Well, that Thai game didn’t last long. Shortly after Suzuki, Pivetta surrendered another home run to catcher Carson Kelly, and suddenly the Cubs turned the game into ears.

The second Homer also encouraged Padres manager Mike Schilt to move the bullpen. Pivetta remains on the mound, but there are a few more mistakes that could force the team to bring in rescuers. This is a 2-1 turnip.

After four strong innings from Nick Pivetta, the veteran ultimately showed some cracks. Pivetta has only surrendered two base runners, but the game is tied to one.

After Padres catcher Freddie Fermin singled one and lifted the top of the Padres lineup, Cubs manager Craig Counsel had a good look. Already, he has turned his eyes to his bullpen, especially Danny Palencia. He will have the luxury of facing Fernando Tatis and Luis Arez.

After surrendering a single to Nico Horner in the first inning, Pibetta has since coast run, setting up an 11 straight cubs to close out the 11 innings. Still, despite Pivetta’s excellence, the Padres don’t give him much running support. They are threatening, but the monks were unable to take the runners from their scoring position.

Fifth, it remains at 1-0.

The middle of that Padres lineup has once again caused trouble to Boyd. After Manny Machado walked to lead the innings, Bogartos moved him to just three batters, later moving from singles to center field. There was a runner in the corner, and only one was out for Ryan O’Hern.

Back in the second innings, O’Hern had already been hit after shortstop Danceby Swanson stopped diving to hold Bogart on 3 base. This time, O’Haan lifted the lazy flyball into a shallow center field, while Swanson raced the race and created an excellent shoulder catch to keep Machado in third place. Two at-bats and two O’Hearn were taken by Swanson.

Swanson’s Great Glove continued to run further from scoring, continuing the game to the fourth bottom, just 1-0.

After a rough second, Matthew Boyd went 3 up for the third time, attacking Lewis Arez, a very rare sight.

The Cubs return to the dugout, still chasing after them one by one.

The Cubs were about to get their own run after the Padres began scoring at the second top. However, Nick Pivetta was hitting two kids at the perfect moment. It remains 1-0 towards the third.

It looked like the Padres were set to a 2-0 lead after the Bogaerts reached third place without an out. However, the fantastic diving stop from Danceby Swanson held Bogart in the third. It was followed up with a third pop-out, a groundout of short-out.

For some reason, the Padres managed only one run in the innings. Still, they head towards the 1-0 bottom of the second up.

Merrill led the lead in two innings and doubled down the right field line. And it didn’t take long for the Padres to take him home. Xander Bogaerts doubled Merrill into the left central gap. The second throw also left the Cubs, allowing Bogart to reach the third. There were no outs in the innings, and the Padres have already scored, with Bogart just 90 feet away from the score.

Michael Busch gave Pivetta’s fastball a deep center ride, but Jackson Merrill was able to catch the ball on the warning track. The Cubs got their first base runner of the game after Nico Horner sucked a ground ball through 34 holes. But that was as far as he gets, as both Ian Hap and Kyle Tucker descend from Pibetta without much trouble. As we head into the second innings, it remains scoreless.

The Padres fell quietly at the first top in the top three, Tatis, Ares and Machado. Manny Machado had the best opportunity to reach base and ripped the line drive straight on with the Cubs’ three-base hand mat show.

It is tied towards the first bottom with zero.

The Cubs and Padres are 3-3 this year. The team played only two direct series this season, with the Cubs winning the first Series 2-1, and the Padres winning the next Series 2-1 just a week later.

In these six games, both teams scored just 25 runs. This could match the playoff series as evenly as you would expect from all year round.

  • parents: Nick Pivetta (13-5, 2.87 ERA)

Pivetta’s postseason experience is limited to three games with the Red Sox in 2021, and he has secured a solid 2.63 ERA.

Pibetta got off to two starts against the Cubs in April, one great start and another nasty start. In his first start at Wrigley Field, Pibetta only lasted three innings, surrendering three-inning run with six hits. However, at his next start, Pibetta played well in front of the crowds of his house, threw six innings of a one-run ball, allowing six hits and a walk, and hit the sixth inning.

  • Cubs: Matthew Boyd (14-8, 3.21 ERA)

Boyd has struggled recently, posting an ERA for over 5 in his last 11 starts. It was far from the 2.20 era he saw in the first half of the season as Boyd won his first All-Star bid.

That said, there are many factors to the void. Most notably, he was spectacular in the pre-season Cleveland postseason, posting a 0.77 ERA in three games. He played a pivotal role in helping Cleveland reach the ALCS. Plus, Boyd pitched very well against the Padres earlier this year, giving up two runs in 11.1 innings in two starts against the brothers this year.

Pepsi’s Dirty Soda Trend Adds New Mountain Dew, Maguroot Beer Drink

0

Dirty soda drinks, usually made by dashing cream into sodium carbonate, have become a delicious alternative, especially for Gen Z consumers. Pepsi hopes to get some new dirty soda drinks.

play

Pepsi is deeply involved in the dirty soda trend.

Coming to early 2026: Dirty Mountain Dew Cream Soda Dew, said to be “Mountain Dew’s iconic citrus kick brings a smooth and luxurious taste,” according to a news release.

The Mountain Dew Dirty Soda entry comes months after Mountain Dew’s parent Pepsi was brought to sell the new permanent Pepsi Wild Cherry & Cream Flavor in January. Like Pepsi Wild Cherry & Cream, the new Dirty Mountain Dew Cream Soda Dew is also available with the Zero Sugar option.

Dirty soda is a drink usually made by adding a bit of coffee creamer or flavorful syrup to sodium carbonate, making it a popular drink alternative, especially among Gen Z consumers.

Not short of flavored varieties, Mountain Dew is an obvious mixer for exploring dirty soda.

“Mountain Dew has always pushed boundaries with flavors that become a cultural phenomenon. Dirty Mountain Dew Cream Soda is a creamy, luxurious taste and another example of how to use innovation to attract fans.” “As a brand that has always embraced culture, Dirty Mountain Dew takes the trends of Dirty Soda to a whole new level… Just Dew can do it!”

Pepsi expands towards dirty soda

PepsiCo debuted the Convenience Store Association’s Dirty Mountain Dew Cream Soda Dew, which will be held in Chicago from October 14th to 17th, and will be available nationwide in early 2026.

Mountain Dew is not the only brand that is clearly getting a dirty soda addition. Pepsico is also planning to debut a mug beer drink from Root Beer Float called Vanilla Howler, a mug float that is expected to hit the store next summer, according to the product’s official Instagram page.

Pepsico will also provide a sneak preview of Mugfloat’s vanilla Howler at the NACS show, CNBC reported.

Consumer preferences for dirty soda continue to flow

An accelerated interest in dirty soda has been made in Swig called Swig, known as the “Dirty” Soda House,” which opened in St. George, Utah in 2010. The brand has words of wisdom from the church of Jesus Christian, the saint, who followed, drinking hot cafe indo-drinks like coffee and tea from York.

Swig gained national popularity in December 2021 when singer Olivia Rodrigo posted a photo of herself holding a Swig cup on Instagram.

The dirty soda hack has been growing ever since. Over 14 million viewers saw a Tiktok video posted by singer Dua Lipa in October 2024, where she closed out her diet cola with pickled juice and jalapeno juice.

Other brands, including restaurants such as Dr. Pepper and McDonald’s and Sonic, also offer their own take on dirty soda.

“The dirty soda trend is more than just a trend. It reflects the evolving preferences of today’s consumers,” writes Joseph Chen, CEO of Toronto-based consulting firm Leo & Dragon on the Food Institute website. “As the non-alcoholic beverage market continues to grow, dirty soda is poised to become a staple in the beverage industry.”

What happens if the government closes? How can you be affected?

0

Various government services are stopped on shutdowns. National parks, airport security lines and clinical trials could be hit.

play

WASHINGTON – Government closures usually spread in slow motion.

They have every time in recent US history, and the 2025 version doesn’t seem to make a difference as the Trump administration prepares to turn off the lights on various programs and services amid a conflict over federal spending with Senate Democrats.

Without dramatic last minute action before the start of the next fiscal year on October 1st, federal employees who do not protect their jobs or property will be told to leave work. Museums, monuments and national parks are expected to close. Travel can be delayed and popular government websites will not be updated. Maintenance will be postponed at the Veteran Cemetery.

In the long run, Trump is threatening to fire a large number of federal workers and shut down an entire office.

This is a summary of what happens when you close most of the US government.

What happens on the first day of the shutdown?

Furloughed employees usually complete their timesheets for up to four hours on the first day of a shutdown and finish the emergency work.

The federal division historically had discretion to borrow or restructure money from the previous fiscal year that could be carried over to continue operations during the closure. But guidance sent last week by President Donald Trump’s Office of Business and Budget prevents any agency from doing so without the explicit permission of the White House.

Think about self-funded services that are not or are funded as essential through mandatory federal spending – Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the U.S. Postal Service – will halt until government reopens. Veterans benefits and treatment will continue to be available, but career counseling will be suspended and VA’s regional office will be closed.

“Your check will continue, we’ll check it,” Sen. John Kennedy, a Louisiana Republican, said from the Senate floor.

Air traffic controllers, Secret Service, TSA and FBI agents, immigration enforcement officers, prison staff, active members of the military and Trump and his top aides are among the federal workers expected to continue working. They receive back pay, but not immediate pay to carry out the closure.

What can you hit in the first week?

When government closures continue over the weekend, various government services will be affected – some of them stand out more than others.

In past closures, trash cans have begun to pile up at national malls and other national landmarks. Cemeteries managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs will no longer be undergoing maintenance.

“You’ll notice the impact,” Sen. John Kennedy, a Louisiana Republican, said on the Senate floor.

Additionally, government websites may not be updated and transactions may be delayed until after closing. For example, the Bureau of Labor Statistics says it will not release its monthly employment numbers as planned for October 4th. The Bureau of Economic Analysis, which tracks deficits, foreign trade and US GDP, does not generate data.

Guidance from the Ministry of Education says the investigation into civil rights complaints will be suspended.

The Health and Human Services Department has said it is unable to process requests for public information and that the National Institutes of Health will not approve new patients in clinical research trials. However, it said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will continue to monitor the outbreak.

Participants in the Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Women, Infant and Children’s Programs may also be affected.

“There are some short-term funds available to them, but long-term closures can affect the benefits of these programs,” said Caleb Quakenbush, associate director of economic programs at the Bipartisan Institute for Policy Research.

Broadly speaking, new contracts and federal grants may not be able to be signed except in certain circumstances. The Pentagon lists exemptions from the regulations if delays pose an immediate risk to human life, property protection, or national security risks.

Also, air transport control workers and TSA agents are considered essential, but some people are not paid and show up for shifts.

The IRS says it will continue to operate for five business days using funds allocated through the Inflation Reduction Act.

The shutdowns have threatened to exacerbate existing staffing shortages and lead to airport security lines, flight delays and cancellations, US Travel Association president Jeff Freeman told Congress in a September 25 letter.

Lags could continue even after funds recover, Freeman said. This is because the hiring and training of new air traffic controllers will also be stopped.

Long-term impacts of shutdown

Trump made history in his first term with a 35-day shutdown. No one knows how long this will last.

The long-term impact could be bitten as scientific research projects stalled and federal courts put some of their operations on hold.

Federal workers could also be hit hard, with the Trump administration threatening to fire people who “do not align with the president’s priorities” if funds expire.

OMB poses a threat in an email sent to its agents last week, and Trump again threw it at Democrats on September 30th.

“We can do things that are irreversible during closures, bad and irreversible for them. They will cut out huge numbers of people, cut out what they like, cut out what they like, cut out the programs they like,” Trump told reporters before the government shut down.

In guidance sent to the agency by the Human Resources Administration on September 28, the White House indicated that there could be a reduction in power notifications before the funding lapse began. The fired employee said he was eligible for a 60-day retroactive salary.

The OPM guidance also included important warnings. Once federal funds are restored, agencies can consider revising their notices to regain “the minimum number of employees required to perform statutory functions.”

NEW YORK – For the first time in eight years, a New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox rivalry has invaded the postseason.

And this time, the outcome should be decided by a showdown between the left-handed ace, worthy of Cy Young.

New York and Boston will clash in three American League wildcard series starting at Yankee Stadium on September 30th.

Star-studded openers are important. Game 1, which won the team in three years in the Wild Card Series, has made progress in all 12 matches. Crochet led the major leagues, ranking third in the AL with 2.59 ERA with 255 strikeouts. Freed wasn’t too late at the 2.86 mark, and his 19 wins beat Crochet’s 18 to lead the majors.

The Red Sox won the past two postseason meetings between the clubs, sending the Yankees 3-1 at the 2018 ALDS, heading for the World Series crown. In 2021, Nathan Eobaldi surpassed Gerrit Cole at Fenway Park to win the wild card game.

The Red Sox take 2-1 to Yankees Bullpen lead

Luke Weaver put Yankees starter Max on the seventh peak and quickly walked Sedanne Rafaela at the 11th pitch at bat. Nick Sogaard has since doubled, with Yoshida Masataka getting a pinch hit for Rob Levsnider, scoring two singles on the first pitch seen from Weaver. Fernando Cruz freed Weaver, smacked Trevor’s story and ended the innings by getting pinch hitter Nathaniel Lowe.

Max It was done after fried 6℃ Scoreless

Max Fried will take place on the night after 102 pitches in 6.1 innings. He allowed four hits, walked three times and hit six. The Yankees were the first to leave the runners behind when they clung to a one-run lead. Freed received a huge applause when he was replaced by rescuer Luke Weaver.

Crochet has subsided and I retired from the last 10 Yankees.

Garrett Crochet wasn’t doing that bad, allowing three hits in eight innings, but one of those hits crossed the right field fence at Yankee Stadium, with Anthony Volpe running a home run second. Volpe’s 382-foot home run would have cleared the fences of all major league ballparks except Boston’s Fenway Park.

Freed scored the first two batters of the innings, but scored two runners on walks and doubles. The winning major league leader escaped all the damage by hitting Jaren Duran to end the threat.

Volpe deposited a 97 mph sinker from Garrett Crochet into the right field, breaking the scoreless tie. It was Volpe’s second career postseason home run. New York 1, Boston 0.

Garrett Crochet allowed Paul Goldschmidt to have a single-off single, and Al MVP candidate Aaron Judge did the same on the first pitch he saw. The crochet then launched Cody Bellinger and grounded Giancarlo Stanton to a double play at the end of the inning.

On a lovely 77-degree night in the Bronx, Yankees starter Max Fried started things by sending the Red Sox relatively easily and allowing Alex Bregman to only single.

What time is the Yankees vs. Red Sox game?

The first pitch is scheduled for 6:08pm ET at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

NEW YORK – Red Sox manager Alex Cora said it’s unlikely that Giorito will pitch again this season due to an elbow injury.

He is on his way home. I’m not 100% sure where we are. From everything I’ve heard, there’s no structural damage – that’s great. There’s a bit of a chance he can pitch. I’ll probably eliminate him,” Kora said.

From a personal perspective, I think those are good news for him, right? It’s like it’s difficult to get surgery in the offseason. Hopefully it will be. I’ll talk to B and talk to him later, but that’s the last thing I’ve heard.

New York – Jazz Chisholm, the usual two-base hand of the Yankees, sits in Game 1 and will be replaced by the lineup by Amed Rosario. Yankees manager Aaron Boone explained his decision at a pre-game press conference. Rosario is 9-6 and has one home run life against Red Sox starter Garrett Crockett.

“Jazz is going well. I don’t hesitate to use jazz. He could get to this game earlier, but yeah, he’s as tough as crochet and he’s particularly tough on left-handed,” Boone said. “There are no great matchups. AMED has a good history with him. I’ve faced him a lot this year.

“But the jazz is good to go. I’m ready. Also, along with Max, I want the strength on the left in my defense.

This is the sixth time the Yankees and Red Sox have met in the postseason (ALCS: 1999, 2003, 2004; ALDS: 2018; Al Wild Card Game: 2021).

In the postseason, the team is between 12 and 12 years old, but Boston won eight of their last nine playoff games against New York.

During the 2025 regular season, the Red Sox went 9-4 against the Yankees. This included eight games winning streak.

Uncrustables is increasing its protein intake with the launch of several new products.

The best known brand for frozen sandwiches has released several new “high protein” inappropriate options that promise to support a “more balanced start without compromising on taste or convenience.”

The new products, including higher protein PB & JS, a gross bright-eyed berry sandwich, and Uncrustables Up & Apple sandwich, each contain 12 grams of protein per serving.

In addition to protein, all new Uncrustables sandwiches feature “more fiber and whole grains.” Starting October, it will be available for purchase at select retailers.

“Made for flavor and quick mornings, these frozen sandwiches are perfect for those looking for a protein-packed start to the day, according to a September 29 statement from JM Smucker Co., owner of Uncrustables. “Whether heading to school, work, or the gym, the grumpy protein PB&JS is a snack for your morning momentum.”

See “higher protein” obscure sandwich: flavour

The “higher protein” sandwich, like other frozen sandwiches in the mismatched portfolio, are individually wrapped and ready to be enjoyed directly from the freezer. Each sandwich, made with “coveable” peanut butter, is paired with fruit-forward jam or jelly.

Two new flavors included in this protein-packed startup include:

  • Bright eyed berries: Peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwich
  • Up & Apple: Peanut butter and apple cinnamon sandwich

According to JM Smucker Co., the new additions are the existing lineup of “complementary” grapes, strawberries, honey, raspberry and chocolate-flavored hazelnut spreads, as well as sugar grape reductions, sugar strawberries and other seasonal limited edition flavors.

Where to buy illicit sandwiches with “higher protein”

A new “high protein” fraudulent sandwich assortment can be purchased at Walmart, Target and Kroger, which starts in October. According to JM Smucker Co., the 8-count box will be sold for $10.46.
