H&M to close two New York City stores by early 2026

Clothing giant H&M plans to close two stores in New York City by January 2026 as part of its plan to close 200 stores in 2025.

H&M has filed a planned closure with the New York Department of Labor. The company’s filing says 62 employees at the store will be laid off, including 31 at the two Manhattan stores.

The two closures are expected to take place by January 19, 2026, according to the filing. Earlier this year, H&M quietly announced in its six-month report that it would close hundreds of stores in 2025.

“More than 200 stores are scheduled to close in 2025, mainly in existing markets,” H&M said.

H&M’s global footprint has declined sharply since the pandemic, with the number of stores down 19% from its peak at the end of 2019, according to Reuters.

Here’s what you need to know:

Which stores will H&M close?

According to the New York Department of Labor, the following H&M stores are scheduled to close by January next year.

  • 18 Church St., New York, NY
  • 150 East 86th St., New York, New York

In a statement to USA TODAY, H&M said the closures are part of its long-term growth strategy.

H&M said: “While physical stores remain important to us and we will continue to invest in them, having the right stores in the right locations is essential to ensuring our long-term, sustainable growth.” “We are following our normal procedure of working with affected store employees to fill available positions at nearby stores.”

Why this used Jeep Wagoneer is a great deal at CarMax prices.

This full-size SUV is much more affordable as a used model. Here’s why it’s worth considering:

play

  • The Jeep Wagoneer is a full-size family SUV that costs a lot of money new.
  • CarMax has several listings for affordable used Wagoneers that can be great deals for some car buyers.

Depreciation is a great way for used car buyers to purchase a quality vehicle for a fraction of its original price. Many new cars can lose more than 20% of their original value in just a year or two. This creates a unique purchasing opportunity for drivers looking for deals on popular rides.

Jeep may be best known for SUVs like the Wrangler, but its full-size SUV models are perhaps even more appealing to drivers looking for a comfortable and capable family SUV. Here’s why you can get a great deal on a used Jeep Wagoneer at CarMax.

CarMax has a Jeep Wagoneer for under $40,000

Full-size SUVs are spacious, capable, and often have powerful engines. The only difference is that it’s cheaper. Thanks to depreciation, some of the most expensive full-size SUV models can become affordable to the average driver after a few years and some mileage.

The original MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) for the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer was $58,995, excluding taxes and fees. You can currently buy a 2022 Wagoneer for under $40,000 at CarMax. This is a depreciation rate of over 32% in just 4 years (2021 release). Additionally, some high-mileage Wagoneer models are listed on CarMax for less than $38,000.

How big is the Jeep Wagoneer?

Jeep’s Wagoneer full-size SUV seats seven people. Edmunds said it is 214.7 inches long. Overall width is 94 inches (including mirrors). The height of the Wagoneer is 75.6 inches.

Cargo space is 27.4 cubic feet in the rear with the seats up. With the seats folded down, the full-size SUV offers a whopping 116.7 cubic feet of cargo space. It has 8.3 inches of ground clearance (enough for off-road applications) and can tow up to 10,000 pounds.

2022 Jeep Wagoneer specifications and standard equipment

The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine and electric motor that produces 392 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. It gets 16 miles per gallon in the city and 22 miles per gallon on the highway. The Wagoneer’s power output is average for the segment, but its fuel economy is slightly worse than its main rivals.

2022 Jeep Wagoneer Standard Equipment

  • blind spot warning
  • Front/rear parking sensor
  • heated leatherette steering wheel
  • tire pressure monitoring
  • Hands-free entry

Jeep’s 2022 Wagoneer also comes equipped with standard heated side mirrors (with turn signals), cruise control, and four-wheel independent suspension. Many of its standard features make full-size SUVs safer and more comfortable to drive.

Should you buy a used Jeep Wagoneer?

U.S. News & World Report praises the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer’s “powerful V8 engine, smooth ride, spacious interior, and extensive standard features.” Jeep’s full-size SUVs are definitely among the best in their segment, based on reviews and rankings.

If you’re in the market for a value-packed family SUV, a gently used (less than 50,000 miles) Wagoneer is worth considering for under $40,000. Upper trim levels with more standard features in this price range provide even more value for money. The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer costs $59,945 new before taxes and fees, making it a great full-size SUV for used models.

Prosecutors retry Pedro Hernandez in 1979 kidnapping of Etan Patz

0

play

New York prosecutors announced on November 25 that they will retry a man whose murder and kidnapping convictions in the 1979 disappearance of 6-year-old Etan Patz were overturned earlier this year.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said in a notice that it determined “the available evidence supports” re-indicting Pedro Hernandez on the same charges. Hernandez, now 64, was sentenced in 2017 to at least 25 years in prison for the kidnapping and murder of Etan in New York City, one of the nation’s most notorious child disappearance cases.

In July, a federal appeals court reversed Hernandez’s conviction, arguing that jury records were improperly handled during the trial, “prejudicing the verdict.” In October, another judge gave the district attorney until Dec. 1 to decide whether to retry Hernandez, who remains in custody.

The district attorney’s office said in a letter to a New York state court judge on Nov. 25 that it is “prepared to litigate the case.” Hernandez’s new trial must begin by June 1, 2026, or he will be released from custody.

“We remain confident that Mr. Hernandez is innocent,” Hernandez’s attorneys Harvey Fishbein and Alice Fontia said in a statement, according to the Associated Press and NBC News. Fishbein and Fontier added that they are ready for a retrial and will mount an “even stronger defense,” news outlets reported.

Etan’s disappearance shocked the nation and sparked a missing children movement, including National Missing Children Day on May 25 and the creation of a national hotline for missing children. The boy was never found and was declared legally dead in 2001, but he was one of the first missing children to be featured on the side of a milk carton as part of an effort to raise awareness of the disappearance and garner leads.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Etan was “a boy who has become synonymous with the name and face” of the national missing child problem. This case, along with the 1981 murder of 6-year-old Adam Walsh, changed the law enforcement response to missing children and led to the creation of a coordinated national system.

What happened to Etan Patz?

According to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Programs, Etan disappeared on the morning of May 25, 1979, while walking to school from his home in New York City’s Soho neighborhood. It was the first time I walked alone to catch the school bus, which was about two blocks from my house.

But he “didn’t follow through,” according to the Office of Justice Programs, and his parents reported him missing to police after he didn’t come home from school that night. “More than 100 police officers and bloodhounds launched an intensive search for the missing boy after his mother alerted the police,” authorities said in a statement.

The New York Times reported in 1979 that it was the largest and longest search for missing children in the city in decades.

Cases unsolved for decades

Etan’s disappearance remained unsolved for decades until 2012, when Hernandez, a former store clerk who worked near the bus stop and was 18 when the boy disappeared, was named a suspect. At the time, there was renewed interest in the cold case, and relatives told police that Hernandez had told a prayer group decades earlier that he had killed a child.

“This finally provided some answers for a family who had endured years of distress and anxiety, including repeated visits by strangers pretending to be their son,” the Office of Justice Programs said.

Hernandez later confessed to the crime, but his defense team argued at trial that it was a lie and the result of mental illness, USA TODAY previously reported. In his confession, Hernandez said he lured Etan to the store’s basement by offering him a soda, then strangled him, put him, still alive, in a box and left him in a pile of trash on the side of the road.

After the first murder trial ended in a hanging, Hernandez was found guilty of kidnapping and murder in a second trial in 2017 and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

How to start a car battery using jumper cables

0

play

  • Install jumper cable clasps only in the correct position on the guide.
  • Be careful in choosing the grounding metal to which you attach the clasp.

Turning the key and turning on the ignition only to realize that your car’s battery is dead is a frustrating experience that most people experience at some point. According to Firestone Complete Auto Care, this can occur if your headlights are left on, in extreme outdoor weather, or if your car battery needs a simple replacement.

Jumping a car can be a daunting task, but with the necessary and recommended equipment and an extra car ready to jump a dead battery, you’ll be back on the highway in no time.

how to jump a car

Geico provides a list of the equipment you need to jump your car. You’ll need jumper cables to jump into the car, gloves and coveralls for protection, a flashlight to identify the correct parts of the car, and an instruction manual. You will also need another car with a charged battery.

Home Depot advises drivers to follow these steps:

  1. Park a vehicle with a full battery next to a vehicle with a dead battery, or bumper to bumper. Make sure your vehicle is close enough to connect the jumper cables. They shouldn’t be touched.
  2. Turn off the engines of both cars and remove the keys from the ignition.
  3. Open both front hoods.
  4. Locate the car batteries under the hood of both cars.
  5. Locate the “two metal terminals” on both batteries. The positive terminal has a plus (+) sign and a red wire. The negative terminal has a minus (-) symbol and a black wire.
  6. Separate the jumper cables and make sure neither end touches the other during the process.
  7. Connect the red clamp to the metal post on the positive (+) terminal of your dead car battery. Make sure the clamp is fully connected to the metal and will not fall off. Do this for all clamps.
  8. Connect the other red clamp to the metal post on the positive (+) terminal of the charged car battery.
  9. Connect the matching black clamp to the metal post on the negative (-) terminal of a charged car battery.
  10. Connect the last black clamp to the “ground metal piece” of the dead car. Do not install it on a broken car battery. A potential safety hazard may result. Some vehicles have a piece of metal that serves as a grounding spot. Check your owner’s manual to see if this applies to your car.
  11. Once all clamps are fully connected, start the vehicle with a charged battery and run for a few minutes.
  12. Start the car with a dead battery. This may take a little longer than usual, so keep turning the key until the engine starts completely.
  13. Now you need to remove all cables. Leave both cars running.
  14. Remove the previously failed car’s black clamp from its location on the grounded metal piece. Place it on the ground, making sure not to touch anything under the hood.
  15. Remove the red clamp from the positive (+) terminal of the previously failed car. Place the other removed clamp on the ground in the same way without touching it.
  16. Perform the same steps on the vehicle clamp that was used to charge the dead vehicle.
  17. Store the clamp safely.

Take a look inside the Ford Mustang Immersive Experience at the LA Auto Show

0

play

  • The Ford Mustang debuted in 1964.

The iconic Ford Mustang might have come into the world under the Cougar brand instead.

But that wasn’t the case. The galloping horse logo won out and the rest, as they say, is automotive history.

The Mustang was born in 1962 as an idea for a sports car styling program and debuted at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.

Sixty years later, this car still resonates.

That’s the idea behind American Icon: A Mustang Immersive Experience (and the source of the history lesson above).

memorable mustang

This isn’t your standard museum exhibit, but it also features memorabilia and never-before-seen photos related to the filming of the classic “Bullitt” chase scene with Steve McQueen and the Mustang.

Also featured are some notable TV and movie Mustangs.

  • 1967 Ford Mustang “Eleanor” from “Gone in 60 Seconds” (2000)
  • 1973 Ford Mustang Convertible from “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” (1970-1977)
  • 2005 Ford Mustang Saleen S281, from “Transformers” (2007)
  • 2008 Ford Mustang GT, from “Kick-Ass” (2010)

Rather than a room of display cases lined with items documenting the Mustang’s history and evolution, this is designed to immerse visitors in changing colors and scenes, using projection technology to depict different eras of the Mustang’s existence. At one point there is an effect of the floor rotating.

Visitors will also watch a short film featuring notable fans, including comedian Jay Leno, actor Anthony Mackie, and Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman Bill Ford, talking about the car and its impact.

Inside the Mustang Immersive Experience

The exhibit is currently housed in a repurposed warehouse at 539 S. Mission Road in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. It is just steps away from the Los Angeles River concrete channel, a popular location for television and film filming.

Reporters and photographers from the Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network, were given a tour, so to speak, and an optional “4D” thrill ride that resembled video game-style missions with smells, water mist and even swaying seats.

The experience opens to the public on November 8th and runs through early February. Ford spokesman Mike Levine said the project has been in the works for about a year and a half and will be a traveling show. The Petersen Automotive Museum provided several cars for the show.

On a recent Free Press visit Saturday, Jerry Aguirre, 35, and his wife Evelyn Aguirre, 34, also stopped by after about an hour’s drive from Ontario, Calif., but their son Jeremiah, 1, chose to skip the thrill ride because of his age.

The Acquires said they loved the experience so much that they would do it again. Mustang was an intimate part of their lives. Their house has one made in 1966, the time they got married.

The experience is closed on Tuesdays. Regular tickets are $34 and thrill rides are $5. Children 5 and under are free. For more information, please visit https://mustangimmersive.com/los-angeles/.

Parking on the day of the Free Press visit was $10.

Purchasing a ticket to the experience can also get you $500 off the purchase price of a new Ford in Southern California, Levine said.

CFP rankings announced, setting the stage for Week 14 showdown

0

play

If the top teams all win or don’t play, there won’t be much of a mystery about the release of the next College Football Playoff rankings. But that doesn’t mean that after an uneventful Week 13, there weren’t some notable things in the season’s fourth reveal.

Let’s start with the obvious. Ohio State maintained its No. 1 spot ahead of its matchup with Michigan. The Buckeyes must win to secure a spot in the Big Ten title game, and their likely opponent will be No. 2 Indiana, which has held onto its spot from No. 1 in the rankings.

Texas A&M, the other undefeated bowl district, remains in third place, followed by Georgia and Texas Tech. The Aggies can secure a spot in the SEC title game by defeating Texas.

There was one change in the second half of the top ten. This group has some danger heading into Week 14. Oregon State, which moved up one spot to No. 6, faces a tough test in Washington. No. 7 Mississippi State, which fell one spot, will play rival Mississippi State, while Oklahoma State, No. 8, must beat LSU to end the SEC humdrum. Notre Dame and Alabama will occupy the remaining two big team spots, with the Crimson Tide also facing arch-rival Auburn.

There are five schools lurking outside the top 10: Brigham Young, Miami, Utah, Vanderbilt, and Michigan. While the Cougars can control their destiny by winning the Big 12, the rest of the teams could also join the field with some help in the final two weeks. It’s worth noting that the Hurricanes are three games behind Notre Dame, the team they beat in the season opener. A win against No. 22 Pittsburgh would move Miami even closer and potentially eliminate the Fighting Irish.

There’s even more definition to how the race for an automatic bid to champion one of the Group of 5 conferences will play out. Tulane was the only team among the contenders ranked last week, leaving the Green Wave in 24th place. No one else joined the team.

If Tulane and North Texas both win this weekend, they will compete for the American Conference title, but unless one team loses, unranked James Madison will be out. The Dukes will not play a ranked opponent in the Sun Belt title game.

The rankings are the fourth of five the committee will release on Thursday. The next one will take place on December 2nd, after the 14th week. The College Football Playoff field will be revealed with final rankings on Sunday, December 7th.

What is the College Football Playoff schedule?

The format of this year’s playoffs has been changed so that the champions of the four highest-rated teams in the conference are no longer guaranteed first-round byes, as they were last season in the first year of the 12-team system. The committee will seed all qualifying teams, including the top five conference champions, and then the top four teams will receive byes, regardless of league.

The on-campus first-round schedule will see No. 5 play No. 12, No. 6 play No. 11, No. 7 play No. 10 and No. 8 play No. 9.

The winners of these games will advance to the quarterfinals, which will be played at the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 31. The remaining three games in the round will be played on January 1st, with the Orange Bowl starting that day, followed by the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. The Fiesta Bowl and Peach Bowl will hold semifinals on January 8th and January 9th, respectively.

The championship game will be held on January 19th at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Kate Beckinsale reveals her daughter’s boyfriend laid two eggs in one week

Kate Beckinsale is the perfect mother when it comes to caring for her loved ones.

The 52-year-old British Critics Circle Award-nominated actress recalled the shocking health discovery she made from her daughter’s boyfriend during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Monday, November 24th. Beckinsale shares daughter Lily Mo Sheen, 26, with ex-partner Michael Sheen.

Beckinsale told host Jimmy Kimmel: “We’ve had a tough time the last few years. Both of my parents passed away in the last few years, and literally the only silver lining has come from him.” “The bright spot was that he laid two eggs in one week.”

A skeptical Kimmel then asked Beckinsale to clarify what she meant by laying an egg, and the “Wildcat” star then explained that the entire egg, including the “shell and yolk,” passed through the man’s body.

Ms Beckinsale continued: “After he went to the bathroom he was very surprised to find out that she had laid an egg,” adding that her daughter’s unnamed boyfriend was “really scared”. “I got really involved in this because everything was so bad that I really needed a distraction.”

A representative for Beckinsale declined to comment on Beckinsale’s interview.

Beckinsale was skeptical at first, but said Lily sent her a photo after her boyfriend gave birth to her second egg, which she reportedly showed to Kimmel and her partner Guillermo Rodriguez during the interview.

“What the hell?” Kimmel said. “Your daughter’s boyfriend is the Easter Bunny!”

Beckinsale added that she had consulted several doctors about the man’s symptoms and speculated that the incident may have been caused by “some type of complex masturbation.”

“I mean, this is my favorite thing he’s ever done, and I really like him,” Beckinsale said. “But now that some time has passed, I’m ready for the next one.”

Medicare prices will drop for 15 drugs starting in 2027, authorities say

0

play

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced Nov. 25 that Medicaid recipients will receive reduced payments for 15 prescription drugs, including popular weight-loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy, as well as asthma medications and chemotherapy drugs.

The changes will take effect in 2027.

In 2024, negotiated drugs accounted for about $42.5 billion of prescription spending for the approximately 5.3 million people covered by Medicare Part D, according to a news release. A fact sheet published with the announcement states that once the new pricing kicks in, Medicare will save about $12 billion and Part D beneficiaries will save about $685 million in out-of-pocket costs.

The lower prices were negotiated through the Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Program, created by the Inflation Control Act of 2022, passed under the Biden administration. The Trump administration had previously announced lower drug prices through executive orders and negotiations with drug manufacturers.

The bill directs the Secretary of Health to negotiate prices for 10 drugs that go into effect in 2026, 15 drugs that go into effect in 2027, and 15 more drugs that go into effect in 2028. Pricing for 20 more drugs is scheduled to take effect in 2029, according to a parliamentary analysis. Drugs negotiated for price reductions in 2027 and 2028 only apply to drugs under Medicare Part D.

Stacey Duseczina, a health policy professor at Vanderbilt University, told NBC News that the negotiated price “seems very reasonable,” but noted that the $274 price tag for Ozempic and Wegoby is higher than the $250 price the Trump administration negotiated in its contract with manufacturer Novo Nordisk.

“We should have made that deal for the benefit of taxpayers and Medicare beneficiaries,” Dusetsyna said.

Savings exceed negotiations in 2024

The 36% savings expected in 2027 are better than the 22% savings in net spending that Medicare achieved in the first round of price negotiations for 10 drugs last year, according to Goldman Sachs estimates.

CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz said in a news release that the new negotiations are “in stark contrast” to those that took place in 2024. “By using the same process in a bolder direction, we achieved significantly better outcomes for taxpayers and seniors in the Medicare Part D program,” Oz said.

Drugs negotiated under the Biden administration, such as Pfizer and Bristol-Myers Squibb’s blood thinner Eliquis and Amgen’s arthritis drug Enbrel, still cost on average more than double, and in some cases five times, what drug companies agreed to in other high-income countries.

The biggest blows in the Medicare negotiations were AstraZeneca’s leukemia drug Calquence, Boehringer’s lung drug Ofev, and Pfizer’s breast cancer drug Ibrance. Each was sold more than $4,000 off the estimated net price.

William Padula, a professor of pharmaceutical and health economics at the University of Southern California, told Reuters that while “they’re getting more efficient with their methodology,” this latest new product line is likely to have “more wiggle room” in price.

Additional drugs to be negotiated this year include GSK’s asthma and COPD inhaler Trelegy Ellipta, priced at $175, and AbbVie’s irritable bowel syndrome treatment Linzess, priced at $136.

Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt posted a photo of President Donald Trump and FBI Director Kash Patel standing side by side giving a thumbs up.

play

The Trump administration has denied a report in MS NOW that the president is considering firing FBI Director Kash Patel following recent scrutiny of the agency’s use of resources.

White House press secretary Caroline Levitt said in a social media post that when she read the article’s headline to Trump in the Oval Office during a meeting with Patel, the president responded, “What? That’s a complete lie. Come on, Kash, let’s take a picture to show them what a great job you’re doing!”

Mr. Levitt posted a photo of Mr. Trump and Mr. Patel standing next to each other giving a thumbs up. Later, as he headed to Florida on Air Force One, Trump was asked if he was considering replacing Patel, to which he replied, “No.”

MS NOW, citing three anonymous sources, reported that President Trump and those around him are concerned about reports about Patel. An MS NOW spokesperson said in a statement after Levitt’s social media post that the news organization “stands by its reporting.”

The New York Times reported that the department’s SWAT team provided security for Patel’s girlfriend at the National Rifle Association convention in Atlanta, and that Patel was using government planes for recreational travel.

Patel was at the White House on Nov. 25 for the annual pre-Thanksgiving presidential turkey pardon. President Trump acknowledged that he was “very busy doing a great job.”

Patel, a former Justice Department lawyer and Congressional staffer, was controversially selected to lead the FBI. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said during Patel’s confirmation hearing that Patel does not have the “experience, temperament or judgment” to lead the agency.

Patel has been at the forefront of President Trump’s aggressive use of federal law enforcement, and his actions have disrupted the agency. A federal lawsuit filed on September 10 alleges that Patel illegally fired top FBI officials at the direction of the Trump administration as part of a campaign to turn the nation’s top law enforcement agency into the political arm of the White House.

Wendy’s is offering a 67-cent Frosty sale on Black Friday. How to get it.

0

play

Among other sales ahead of this weekend’s Black Friday, fast food chain Wendy’s is not only getting in on the annual shopping extravaganza, but also getting in on the fun with the latest popular trend: the “6-7” meme.

The “6-7” meme exploded in popularity with Gen Alpha and Gen Z last year, becoming culturally significant enough that Dictionary.com announced “6-7” (pronounced “six-seven”) as the word of the year. This internet slang comes from rapper Skrilla’s song “Doot Doot,” which he released in December 2024, but Skrilla vaguely told outlet Complex that the phrase meant “from negative to positive,” and that it helped him go from being a negative person to being a positive person.

Now, Wendy’s is cashing in on the viral trend by offering customers a 67-cent Frosty. Before you go shopping on Black Friday, here’s what you need to know about this sale.

How do I get the 67 cents Frosty deal?

Frosty fans can get small-sized treats for $0.67 all day on (Black) Friday, Nov. 28, by ordering through the Wendy’s app or at restaurants nationwide.

This deal is available from November 29th to December 7th, but only through mobile ordering or online ordering on the Wendy’s app. Customers can redeem transactions once per day within that period.

What other “6-7” deals have you had?

Other restaurants and fast-food joints are also joining the trend, including Domino’s Pizza, which earlier this month offered customers a pizza with large toppings for $6.70.

Pizza Hut offered a similar deal, but it didn’t cover pizza. Customers could get boneless wings for $0.67 on November 6th and 7th.

Donald Trump says he may meet with Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro

The Trump administration’s stance of intimidation against its longtime adversary has been reinforced by the deployment of military assets near Venezuela.

play

President Donald Trump has said he may speak directly to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro amid a pressure campaign on Latin American leaders that includes a major U.S. military buildup.

“I might talk to him and we’ll see,” Trump said on November 25, when asked about Maduro while en route to Florida on Air Force One.

On November 24, the Trump administration designated the Cartel de los Soles, which President Maduro claims to lead, as a foreign terrorist organization, further exacerbating long-standing rivalries.

Asked why he would meet with President Maduro given the terrorist designation, Trump said, “If it saves lives, I don’t mind doing it the easy way, and if I have to do it the hard way, I don’t care.”

The Trump administration’s menacing stance against Maduro has been reinforced by the deployment of military bases near Venezuela and deadly attacks on boats in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific Ocean that have killed dozens of people.

Tensions are rising as the United States has stationed its largest aircraft carrier, two guided missile destroyers, and a special operations ship near Venezuela. Approximately 12,000 troops are stationed in the area.

President Trump has said he is considering ground strikes in Venezuela against drug cartels. But while threatening military action, Trump has left the door open to diplomacy, saying he is discussing potential negotiations “with various staff members.”

Since early September, the Trump administration has bombed at least 21 boats in international waters in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, killing 83 people, many of them Venezuelan. Trump administration officials said, without providing evidence, that the ships were attempting to transport drugs to the United States.

Reuters reported on November 22 that the United States will soon launch a new military operation against Venezuela, starting with a covert operation.

Former child actor John Amen, known for his guest appearance on “Leave It to Beaver,” passed away on Friday, November 21, his representative confirmed. He was 76 years old.

Eymen died of prostate cancer at his home in Mukilteo, Washington, his publicist Harlan Boll confirmed to USA TODAY. Aymen learned of her cancer diagnosis in September.

According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men, affecting one in eight men in the United States. In May 2025, it was revealed that former President Joe Biden had been diagnosed with what his office called “aggressive” prostate cancer, drawing attention to the disease that affects hundreds of thousands of American men each year.

Here’s what you need to know about prostate cancer.

How common is prostate cancer?

The National Cancer Institute says prostate cancer accounts for about 15.4% of all new cancer cases, an estimated 313,780 by 2025.

“I think prostate cancer is something that a lot of men don’t talk about,” Dr. Samuel Heywood, a urologist who specializes in prostate cancer, told USA TODAY when former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin revealed that he underwent surgery for prostate cancer in 2024. “Men can be very stoic and don’t like to talk about their health issues.”

What are the symptoms of prostate cancer?

According to the Cleveland Clinic, symptoms of prostate cancer include:

  • Need to urinate frequently, sometimes urgently (especially at night)
  • Urine flow is weak or starts and stops
  • Pain or burning sensation when urinating
  • loss of bladder control
  • loss of bowel control
  • Ejaculation pain and erectile dysfunction
  • blood in semen or urine
  • pain in the lower back, lower back, or chest

All men are at risk, but according to the CDC, “the older a man gets, the more likely he is to develop prostate cancer.”

According to the CDC, men with a family history of prostate cancer are also at increased risk. African American men are more likely to get prostate cancer than other men, are more than twice as likely to die from prostate cancer, are more likely to get prostate cancer at a younger age than other men, and are often at a more advanced stage when their cancer is discovered.

Prostate cancer prognosis and treatment

According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 1 in 44 men will die from prostate cancer, but most men diagnosed with the disease do not die from prostate cancer.

According to the National Cancer Institute, the five-year relative survival rate for non-metastatic prostate cancer is 97.9%. According to the Mayo Clinic, the survival rate for prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body is about 38%.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, management of the disease may include surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy, among other treatment options.

Dick’s Sporting Goods plans to close some Foot Locker stores after acquiring the shoe retailer earlier this year.

Dick’s confirmed in its third quarter earnings report on November 25 that it will begin addressing “unproductive” Foot Locker assets, including closing “unprofitable” stores.

In an earnings call with investors, Dick’s Executive Chairman Ed Stack said the company had identified an initial number of these assets.

“I need to clean out the garage,” Stack said. “This means clearing out unproductive inventory, closing unprofitable stores, and right-sizing assets that are not consistent with our future vision for the Foot Locker business.”

Dick’s completed its acquisition of Foot Locker on September 8, after first announcing the $2.4 billion deal in May.

Which Foot Locker stores will be closing?

In response to a USA TODAY inquiry seeking more information about which Foot Locker stores will close and when, Dix pointed to comments from Stack and other executives on a Nov. 25 conference call. The company did not provide a list or schedule.

“We are evaluating the store closure situation and are still working through this issue. There are some stores that we believe will close,” Stack said, adding that he expects to share more information during the fourth-quarter earnings release.

Stack also said Dick’s will implement “pricing actions” meaning price changes at Foot Locker stores late in the third quarter and will be “more aggressive” in the fourth quarter.

The company has not disclosed a timeline for store closures, but Stack said Dick’s aims to complete inventory changes by the end of the year to put Foot Locker on track for a “tipping point” for next year’s back-to-school season.

“Our priority is to position Foot Locker for a fresh start in 2026 and reset the business for long-term success,” said Dick’s Chief Financial Officer Navdeep Gupta.

What you need to know about Dick’s Q3 earnings

Dick’s said in its earnings call that net sales exceeded $4 billion in the third quarter of 2025.

More than $3 billion of the total net sales came from Dick’s, with the remainder coming from Foot Locker sales since the Sept. 8 acquisition.

Dick’s also said it opened 13 new House of Sports locations and six new Fieldhouse locations during the third quarter.

Additionally, the company raised its comparable sales growth forecast range for the full year 2025 from 2-3.5% to a maximum of 3.5-4%.

Why Letitia James, and possibly James Comey, could still be indicted

0

The legal victory for former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James is not yet clear.

play

Former FBI Director James Comey and New York State Attorney General Letitia James scored a major legal victory this week when a judge ruled that the prosecutors who accused them were wrongly imprisoned. However, winning doesn’t mean there’s still a chance of winning.

Senior U.S. District Judge Cameron McGowan Curry, appointed by former President Bill Clinton, dismissed the charges against both men, who were targets of President Donald Trump, ruling that the dossier indictment could not stand unless the prosecutor who secured the dossier was duly appointed.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said the Justice Department would appeal the ruling, offering one potential lifeline to the lawsuit. But even if the Justice Department loses that appeal, it could seek new charges against Mr. James, and possibly against Mr. Comey.

“We will pursue all legal action, including immediate appeal,” Bondi said at a press conference on Nov. 24.

Asked for comment for this article, James’ office pointed USA TODAY to a Nov. 24 statement in which James said he was “emboldened by this victory” and “will not be intimidated in the face of these baseless accusations.”

Mr. Comey’s lawyers and the Justice Department did not respond to requests for comment.

The Justice Department asked a grand jury to indict Comey and James only after President Trump posted on social media on September 20 that they were both “totally guilty” and should be indicted. President Trump did not say in his post what charges he had in mind.

As New York’s attorney general, James filed a civil lawsuit against Trump that could have cost the president hundreds of millions of dollars. Comey has been an outspoken critic of Trump since Trump fired him in 2017 during the FBI’s investigation into Russian interference on Trump’s behalf in the 2016 presidential election.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s next after the two lawsuits are dismissed, including why the Trump administration can still pursue charges.

Is time running out for the Trump administration?

If the Justice Department wins the appeal that the attorney general has promised to file, the case against both James and Comey will be reopened. But aside from such success, there would still be options to continue pursuing the pair.

Most federal crimes can only be prosecuted if the charges are committed within a certain amount of time. The same goes for the charges facing both Mr. James and Mr. Comey.

James is charged with bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution, which offenses must be prosecuted within 10 years of their occurrence. The original indictment alleges that James committed these crimes between 2020 and 2024, meaning the Justice Department still has plenty of time to seek new charges.

Meanwhile, Comey has been indicted on charges of lying to Congress and obstructing the proceedings of Congress, which is subject to a five-year statute of limitations. The indictment against Comey alleges that he committed these crimes on or about September 30, 2020, meaning the original deadline for indictment expired at the end of September of this year.

However, federal law typically gives the government an additional six months to pursue new charges after federal charges are dismissed. The question is whether that law applies to Mr. Comey’s situation.

Judge Curry appeared to suggest that the law would not help the government bring new charges against Mr. Comey. In a footnote to a Nov. 24 opinion, she wrote that while a valid indictment generally stops the clock and forces the government to file the same charges, an invalid indictment “doesn’t serve to prevent the door from slamming shut.”

Mr. Comey’s lawyer, Patrick Fitzgerald, appeared to point to that footnote in a statement after the verdict, saying the government was running out of time.

“This decision shows that the statute of limitations has run because the charges are invalid and no further charges can be filed,” Fitzgerald said.

However, not all legal experts agree on that interpretation of the law.

Ed Whelan, a former Justice Department official under President George W. Bush, wrote in a post on X that he found Curry’s footnote “virtually irrelevant.” He noted that the law that typically gives the government an additional six months includes an exception for when charges are dismissed because they “prevent new prosecution,” but that exception “does not appear to apply.”

Sarah Isgur, who worked at the Justice Department during Trump’s first term and has continued to criticize White House interference in the department, said on the “Advisory Opinion” podcast that she believes the six-month delay applies to Comey’s situation.

“So the language of this law is very broad,” Isgur said. “I just don’t see how[Comey and his lawyers]are going to get away with this.”

Who will sue if Harrigan is gone?

Even though the Justice Department could theoretically file new charges, another question is whether the agency’s leadership will be able to find the accusers.

Harrigan was appointed to replace Eric Seibert, Trump’s former personal attorney who has no experience as a prosecutor but was said to have expressed skepticism about bringing charges against Comey and James.

Curry’s ruling leaves it up to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia to fill the vacancy for U.S. attorney general in the district until a Senate-confirmed presidential nominee can serve in the role permanently. It remains to be seen whether a future appointee will also be able to pursue this charge and secure an indictment from a federal grand jury again.

The Trump administration could also seek to have someone other than the top Virginia prosecutor pursue the charges. In an attempt to correct potential flaws in the way Mr. Harrigan initially secured the indictments, Bondi on October 31 issued an order appointing Mr. Harrigan as a “special counsel” authorized to conduct legal proceedings in the Eastern District of Virginia, including, among other things, the prosecution of Mr. James and Mr. Comey. Bondi said in his order that the appointment of a special counsel was retroactive, so it applied on Sept. 22.

Mr Justice Currie ruled that Mr Bondi could not retroactively resolve the issue of Mr Harrigan’s appointment in this manner. But that doesn’t mean Bondy can’t try to install Harrigan to lead future prosecutions against James and Comey by appointing him “special counsel.”

Other reasons for dismissal

Even if the Trump administration finds another way to charge James and Comey with similar crimes, that doesn’t mean the charges will go to trial.

In their motion, James and Comey argue that the lawsuit should be dismissed because of the Trump administration’s persistent pursuit and alleged “outrageous conduct.” For example, James claimed that the Trump administration only obtained charges against her after it “systematically removed interfering ethics officials and career prosecutors.”

With the charges dismissed this week, the judges in the two cases may decide the allegations are dead issues for now. But even if that were the case, new charges could bring the matter back to the fore, potentially leading to greater powers.

Roger Perloff, a former lawyer who covers legal matters for the law publication Lawfare, said on the podcast Lawfare Live that the defense’s case could be strengthened if Harrigan was appointed as a “special counsel” just to prosecute James and Comey.

“This reinforces the view that there is something vindictive and selective about these two prosecutions,” Perloff said.

Breakthrough in adversarial learning enables real-time AI security

0

The ability to perform adversarial learning for real-time AI security provides a decisive advantage over static defense mechanisms.

The emergence of AI-driven attacks leveraging reinforcement learning (RL) and large-scale language model (LLM) capabilities has created “vibe hacks” and adaptive threats that change faster than human teams can respond. For business leaders, this represents a governance and operational risk that cannot be mitigated through policy alone.

Attackers currently rely on multiple stages of inference and automatic code generation to circumvent established defenses. As a result, the industry observes a need to move toward “autonomous defense” (i.e., systems that can intelligently learn, predict, and respond without human intervention).

However, the transition to these sophisticated defense models has historically hit a hard operational ceiling in latency.

Applying adversarial learning, where threat and defense models are continuously trained against each other, provides a way to counter malicious AI security threats. However, introducing the required trans-based architecture into a production environment creates bottlenecks.

Abe Starosta, Principal Applied Research Manager at Microsoft NEXT.ai said:

The computational costs associated with running these dense models have previously forced readers to choose between high-accuracy detection (which is time consuming) and high-throughput heuristics (which are less accurate).

An engineering collaboration between Microsoft and NVIDIA shows how hardware acceleration and kernel-level optimization can remove this barrier, making real-time adversarial defense viable at enterprise scale.

To operationalize the transformer model for live traffic, the engineering team needed to target the limitations inherent in CPU-based inference. Standard processing units struggle to handle the volume and speed of production workloads when taxed with complex neural networks.

In baseline testing conducted by the research team, the CPU-based setup resulted in an end-to-end latency of 1239.67 ms and a throughput of just 0.81req/s. For financial institutions and global e-commerce platforms, a one-second delay on every request is operationally unacceptable.

By moving to GPU-accelerated architecture (particularly leveraging NVIDIA H100 units), baseline latency dropped to 17.8 ms. However, hardware upgrades alone proved insufficient to meet the stringent requirements of real-time AI security.

By further optimizing the inference engine and tokenization process, the team achieved a final end-to-end latency of 7.67 ms. This is a 160x performance acceleration compared to the CPU baseline. These reductions bring the system well within acceptable thresholds for inline traffic analysis and enable the deployment of detection models with greater than 95% accuracy on adversarial learning benchmarks.

One operational hurdle identified during this project provides valuable insight for CTOs overseeing AI integration. While the classifier model itself is computationally intensive, the data preprocessing pipeline, specifically tokenization, emerged as a secondary bottleneck.

Standard tokenization techniques often rely on whitespace segmentation and are designed for natural language processing (such as articles and documents). These have proven inadequate for cybersecurity data, which consists of densely packed request strings and naturally non-disruptive machine-generated payloads.

To address this, our engineering team developed domain-specific tokenizers. Fine-grained parallelism is now possible by integrating security-specific segmentation points that align with the structural nuances of machine data. This bespoke approach to security has reduced tokenization latency by 3.5x. This highlights that off-the-shelf AI components often require domain-specific re-engineering to function effectively in niche environments.

Achieving these results required a consistent inference stack rather than discrete upgrades. This architecture leverages NVIDIA Dynamo and Triton Inference Server for service delivery, combined with the TensorRT implementation of Microsoft’s threat classifier.

The optimization process included fusing key operations such as normalization, embedding, and activation functions into a single custom CUDA kernel. This fusion minimizes memory traffic and startup overhead, which are often silent killers of performance in high-frequency trading and security applications. TensorRT automatically fuses normalization operations into the preceding kernel, and developers built custom kernels for sliding window attention.

These specific inference optimizations resulted in a reduction in forward pass latency from 9.45 ms to 3.39 ms, with a 2.8x speedup contributing to most of the latency reduction seen in the final metrics.

Rachel Allen, cybersecurity manager at NVIDIA, explains: “Securing the enterprise means matching the volume and velocity of cybersecurity data and adapting to the speed of innovation of adversaries.

“Defense models need ultra-low latency to run at line rate and adaptability to protect against modern threats. Combining adversarial learning with NVIDIA TensorRT’s accelerated transformer-based detection models delivers just that.”

Success here points to broader requirements for enterprise infrastructure. As threat actors leverage AI to vary their attacks in real-time, security mechanisms need the computational headroom to run complex inference models without introducing delays.

Relying on CPU computing for advanced threat detection is becoming a burden. Just as graphics rendering has migrated to GPUs, real-time security inference requires specialized hardware to maintain throughput greater than 130 req/s while ensuring robust coverage.

Additionally, general-purpose AI models and tokenizers often fail on specialized data. The complex payloads of “vibe hacking” and modern threats require specially trained models based on malicious patterns and input segmentation that reflect the reality of machine data.

Looking ahead, future security roadmaps include training models and architectures aimed at adversarial robustness, and may use techniques such as quantization to further improve speed.

By continuously training threat and defense models in parallel, organizations can build a foundation for real-time AI protection that scales with the complexity of evolving security threats. Breakthroughs in adversarial learning demonstrate that technology can now be deployed to achieve this by balancing latency, throughput, and accuracy.

Who owns America? 9% of residential land is owned by corporations.

0

play

Corporations own about 9% of residential land in much of the United States, according to the report, which seeks to further quantify an increasingly controversial trend amid record home prices and cost burdens for renters.

The report, “Who Owns America: Mapping Corporate Ownership of Residential Land,” was produced by the Lincoln Institute for Land Policy and its affiliated Center for Geospatial Solutions to provide another perspective on the corporate ownership debate, which typically examines the number of residential units managed by landowners.

The authors analyzed residential property ownership at the parcel level in approximately 500 urban counties in the United States. Business ownership averages 8.9% across the study area, but is much higher in some areas, such as nearly 21% in St. Louis and 20% in Franklin, Ohio.

As the report states, data from real estate analytics firm Kotality suggests that “investors made nearly one-third of the nation’s single-family home purchases in the first half of 2025, purchasing approximately 85,000 properties each month.”

Quantifying and mapping corporate ownership trends is important for several reasons. One of the most significant is that corporate landlords are often vilified for being perceived as making homeownership more difficult and more expensive for ordinary Americans to obtain.

Although the Lincoln Institute report focused on residential parcels rather than specific properties, previous research has shown that investors tend to favor cheaper homes that would normally be purchased by entry-level homebuyers, making the path to homeownership even more difficult.

The role of business owners as landlords may be even more controversial. The report cites data from Harvard University’s Joint Housing Research Center showing that by 2021, “non-individual investors” will own 27% of all rental properties.

“It is important to remember that there is nothing inherently wrong with investor ownership; renters, and the community at large, would prefer a responsible and responsive corporate owner to a negligent private landlord,” the report said. However, extensive reports and research have shown that corporations often do not behave as ideal landlords. “They’re more likely to raise rents higher, they’re more likely to file eviction notices, and they’re more likely to be cited for code violations.”

In some areas, like St. Louis, which the report highlights, investors aren’t just not ideal. Investors have prospered by operating in poor areas, paying fines rather than investing in maintenance and repairs, and charging higher rents than market conditions dictate.

“Poor neighborhoods, especially poor neighborhoods of color, are targeted by mass predatory purchasing,” the report concludes.

For communities that want to limit this behavior, the report offers several solutions. One of the simplest methods may be to create a rental registry that documents each housing unit’s ownership, characteristics, and rental history. “This allows tenants and local governments to know who actually owns a property and who is responsible for its upkeep, and makes it easier to track inspections, code violations, and other details related to a particular property.”

Additionally, simply investing in home ownership and tenant support programs can be extremely helpful. The homestead exemption on property taxes, which privileges people living in residential areas, could also be a small deterrent to absentee landlords. Additionally, philanthropic and local government-led buybacks of corporate-purchased homes could help put those properties into the hands of local residents.

Trump administration names Maduro cartel leader, experts say none exists

0

The Trump administration has designated Venezuela’s Cartel de los Soles as a foreign terrorist organization. Experts say this is not a real cartel.

play

On November 24, the Trump administration designated the Cartel de los Soles, which Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro claims is led, as a foreign terrorist organization after it threatened to launch a military attack within Venezuela’s borders.

In recent months, President Donald Trump and his Cabinet have renewed a pressure campaign to remove Maduro, his longtime opponent, from power. The Trump administration’s tough stance against Maduro has been reinforced by a major military buildup near Venezuela and deadly attacks on boats in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific Ocean that have killed dozens of people.

Mr. Maduro and his associates already face criminal charges of “narcoterrorism” in U.S. courts, and the Cartel de los Soles faces heavy sanctions.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said in a Nov. 21 interview that the foreign terrorist organization designation, also known as an FTO, “gives the Pentagon more tools” and “gives President Trump options” to deal with cartels.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on the X Show that the Cartel de los Soles, “led by the illegitimate Nicolas Maduro,” “corrupts Venezuela’s government institutions and is responsible for terrorist violence and drug trafficking.”

But experts said the designation was not a military measure and that the organization it targeted, Cartel de los Soles, did not exist as an organized drug cartel.

Venezuela contributes little to the flow of drugs into the United States, accounting for only a small portion of the cocaine. The State Department said it is not an ingredient in fentanyl, a drug that is produced primarily in Mexico and is responsible for most overdose deaths.

US military assets converge on Venezuela

The United States has been sending some of its most advanced military assets to the region for months, including its largest aircraft carrier, two guided missile destroyers and a special operations ship. Approximately 12,000 troops are stationed in the area.

Amid mounting pressure, U.S. bombers have repeatedly avoided Venezuelan airspace, most recently on Nov. 21, when a swarm of aircraft, including B-52 bombers and F/A-18 fighters, flew close to the coastline. Speculation that a strike was imminent increased on the same day that the Federal Aviation Administration notified major U.S. airlines to avoid Venezuelan airspace due to the “deteriorating military situation and increased military activity.”

Reuters reported on November 22 that the United States will soon launch a new phase of military operations against Venezuela, starting with covert operations. In an unusual move, President Trump announced in October that he was allowing the CIA to operate in Venezuela.

However, there may still be room for relaxation. Axios reported on November 24 that President Trump had told his advisers that he intended to speak directly to the Venezuelan leader even after ending negotiations with the Maduro government months earlier through special envoy Richard Grenell.

Since early September, the Trump administration has bombed at least 21 boats in international waters in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, killing 83 people, many of them Venezuelan.

Trump officials said, without providing evidence, that the ships were attempting to transport drugs to the United States. President Trump has tried to justify the attack by telling some lawmakers that the country is in a “non-international armed conflict” with drug cartels.

FTO designation does not give a green light for military action.

Experts say the designation of the Cartel de los Soles as a foreign terrorist organization is a new move that will increase pressure on President Maduro, but does not give President Trump further justification for domestic attacks.

Nathan Sale, a former State Department counterterrorism coordinator and special envoy during Trump’s first term, said the FTO designation is a “nuclear bomb” of sanctions. “Designated FTOs will be expelled from the U.S. financial system,” he said.

There are also secondary effects, meaning that companies that do business with designated FTOs may face criminal charges or sanctions themselves.

But Sales said the designation does not authorize military force. He said the administration could introduce these elements alongside other elements of the pressure campaign, but they would be parallel to military action.

Mike Vigil, who retired after 30 years as a special agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration, said the designation would allow the administration to seize U.S. bank accounts associated with the organizations, sanction U.S. citizens who provide material support and allow the federal government to “take steps to prevent members of these organizations from entering the United States.”

Experts say Cartel de los Soles does not exist

Allegations of drug trafficking and corruption have been leveled against Maduro and his inner circle for years. In 2020, during President Trump’s first term, President Maduro and several top officials and military generals were indicted on charges of narcoterrorism and collaborating with Colombia’s leftist guerrilla group FARC to “flood” the United States with cocaine.

In July, the Trump administration imposed sanctions against the Cartel de los Soles, defined as a “Venezuela-based criminal organization led by Nicolás Maduro Moros and other high-ranking Venezuelans in the Maduro regime.”

But experts say “cartels de los soles” range from non-cartels to non-existent organizations.

“There is no such thing as the Cartel de los Soles,” said Sanjo Tree, director of the Drug Policy Project at the Institute for Policy Studies.

According to Insight Crime, a think tank that tracks organized crime in the Americas, the name dates back to 1993, when two Venezuelan military counternarcotics officers were accused of drug trafficking. The term, which means “Sun Cartel,” refers to the sun design on the epaulettes of Venezuelan military commanders.

The term “Cartel de los Soles” arose from the slang of the time, Tree said.

“There is certainly a lot of drug corruption within the Venezuelan military. They are in a great position to make money and seek rent for their positions,” Tree said. But he said they do not function as an organized cartel and do not meet regularly.

Vigil said the name dates back to the 1990s, when some Venezuelan military generals and politicians maintained corrupt ties to the FARC under Maduro’s successor, socialist President Hugo Chávez.

“They colluded with them, protected them and allowed them to operate in Venezuela,” Vigil said.

The Cartel de los Soles then took on a more involved role in the drug trade, Vigil said. However, they lacked an organizational structure and remained a loose network of government and military officials, he added.

“They don’t have the infrastructure of a cartel,” Vigil said. “It is inconsistent to call them a terrorist organization.”

“Statistically speaking, there is zero fentanyl in Venezuela,” he added. “That’s not even worth talking about.”

President Trump uses turkey pardon to attack Biden, ‘big fat’ JB Pritzker

WASHINGTON – Presidential turkey pardons are usually a light-hearted holiday event filled with poultry puns before Thanksgiving.

But President Donald Trump took a different turn on Gobble & Waddle’s pardon on Nov. 25, using remarks from the White House Rose Garden to target his Democratic opponents, former President Joe Biden and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

“The mayor is incompetent and the governor is a big fat man,” Trump said, slamming state and local opposition to his efforts to send the National Guard to Chicago. “He should invite us and say, ‘Make Chicago safe.'”

Trump later teased that there was a “Pritzker joke” in his prepared remarks, but he decided to leave it out because talking about the governor would enrage him.

“I’m not going to make a Pritzker joke,” Trump said. “There’s a really cute little joke. A speechwriter wrote a joke about his weight. I never want to talk about his weight. I don’t talk about people being fat. I refuse to talk about the fact that he’s fat and sloppy. I don’t bring it up.”

The president added, “By the way, I’d also like to lose a few pounds.”

The Trump administration sent National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon and Chicago last month as part of a nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration and crime in Democratic-led cities. But the Pentagon withdrew the troops last week following a pending lawsuit challenging their deployment.

In his turkey pardon remarks, President Trump said Chicago could become like Washington, D.C., and praised efforts to deploy the National Guard to the nation’s capital to curb crime. The president then made the completely false claim that Washington, D.C. went from having one or two murders a week to zero in six months.

According to the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department, the number of homicides in 2025 is down 29% from 2024, but there were still 123 homicides this year. Just last week, D.C. police announced an investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred on November 19th.

President Trump says he re-pardoned Biden’s turkey because of autopen

President Trump began his speech with a jab at “a sleepy guy named Joe Biden.” President Trump said he ruled that Biden’s pardon for Peach and Blossom turkeys last year was “totally invalid” because Biden used an autopen.

So is the pardon of almost everyone pardoned except for “Where’s the Hunter?” Mr. Trump said. Republicans argue that Biden’s pardon should be thrown out because former President Biden used a signature device to sign the pardon document.

President Trump said he re-pardoned Biden’s turkeys to prevent birds from being killed and eaten on Thanksgiving. “We saved them in the nick of time,” Trump said.

This year’s turkey pardon marked the 78th year of this tradition, which has continued through 15 consecutive administrations.

Trump also used his remarks to tout the accomplishments of his first year in office, including efforts to end several international conflicts. He also asserted that the administration is “making incredible progress in making America affordable again” as Americans continue to express concerns about inflation and the economy.

President Trump said he is considering naming two 50-pound turkeys pardoned this year, Gobble and Waddle, after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“I was going to call them Chuck and Nancy,” the president said. “But then I realized I’m not going to forgive them. I’ll never forgive those two. I won’t forgive them. I don’t care what Melania said to me. ‘Darling, I think that’s a good thing.’
