Check the latest pet food delivery status. 300 dog foods were recalled after being found to be contaminated with plastic debris.

Fromm Family Foods began a voluntary recall of some frozen dog food prepared by Bonihill Farms on Dec. 3 following complaints from dog owners. According to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notice, there were no reports of injuries or illnesses as of Dec. 3, but pet food companies warned pet owners to be on the lookout for symptoms from plastic ingestion.

Dogs that eat plastic may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue and stomach discomfort, the notice states. If your dog ingests large amounts of plastic, it can cause intestinal obstruction or blockage, which can be life-threatening. If your dog exhibits gastrointestinal upset (such as vomiting or diarrhea) or signs of illness, contact your veterinarian immediately.

“We identified the error and, in addition to our existing safety processes, took corrective action to prevent it from happening again,” Fromm said in a recall notice shared with the FDA.

USA TODAY has reached out to Fromm for comment.

Trump’s approval rating declines over economic response

The president’s approval rating fell to 42%, while his disapproval rating rose. A high percentage of respondents disapproved of President Trump’s handling of the economy.

A new analysis of polls compiled by The New York Times shows that U.S. President Donald Trump’s approval ratings, which have remained relatively stable through the deployment of the National Guard, unprecedented tariffs and the delayed release of the Epstein files, have declined slightly.

reason? More poll respondents criticized the president’s handling of the economy. At the same time, the percentage of respondents disapproving of the president rose to new heights. A New York Times analysis of public opinion polls found that the president’s approval rating had fallen to 42%. His disapproval rating rose by 55%.

In a statement, the White House blamed former President Trump for ongoing economic problems.

“Fixing Joe Biden’s economic crisis was President Trump’s first day priority. From striking historic drug price deals to securing tax cuts for the working class, every member of the Trump administration is doing their part to provide economic relief to Americans,” said Khush Desai, Trump’s press secretary. “While there is still more work to be done, Americans can rest assured that the same policies that produced a historic economy during President Trump’s first term will repeat their success in his second term.”

A Times analysis found support has declined among political independents and college-educated white men.

The new poll on President Trump’s approval ratings comes on the heels of a Gallup poll marking his lowest rating in his second term.

A Gallup poll conducted Nov. 3-25 found that 36% of people approve of President Trump’s job performance, down from 41% in October. That’s close to Trump’s all-time low approval rating of 34% in 2021, near the end of his first term after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, according to Gallup.

President Trump’s approval rating declined not only among Democrats but also among Republicans and independents. Republican approval ratings have fallen from 91% during President Trump’s second term (84%). President Trump’s approval rating among independents was 25%, down from 33% in October. Democratic President Trump’s approval rating was 3%, down from 6% last month.

2026 World Cup Winners and Losers Draw

play

WASHINGTON — The biggest World Cup draw in history was perhaps the most disastrous.

“This will be the best FIFA World Cup in history,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino rightly exaggerates. “The greatest event ever experienced by mankind.”

How wonderful!

“I’ll put it in terms that American audiences will understand: The World Cup is like 104 Super Bowls in one month,” Infantino added, echoing a phrase he said earlier this year.

The star-studded event didn’t result in an actual drawing for about 80 minutes, but ultimately led to groupings for a 48-team tournament to be held across North America next summer.

The United States got favorable draws against Paraguay and Australia, avoiding a group stage matchup with the world’s top teams. 2026 co-hosts Mexico and Canada also breathed a sigh of relief on Friday, although neither country was unlucky to end up in the same group as their top-tier opponents.

From the USMNT’s dream pairing to the tough group of France and England, take a look at the winners and losers of the 2026 World Cup draw.

world cup draw winner

USMNT

A draw could have gone the way they wanted for the USMNT, who were placed in Group D with Paraguay, Australia, and a yet-to-be-determined European team.

As one of the co-hosts of the World Cup, the United States was awarded the top pot of the draw to play Australia, the bottom-place team in Pot B. That slot in the USMNT group could be filled by a world soccer powerhouse like Croatia, Morocco, Colombia or Uruguay.

“The message to our players is that Paraguay, Australia and other teams are going to be difficult,” U.S. coach Mauricio Pochettino said. “You have to prepare for every game as if it were a World Cup final. It’s the wrong mindset to think you have to win before you play.”

The USMNT has winning records against both Paraguay and Australia, with 2-1 wins over both teams this fall.

The US president had a big day at the Kennedy Center, where he officially received the first FIFA Peace Prize, a brand new honor that soccer’s governing body appears to have invented to show off President Trump.

The entire world had to watch President Trump’s infomercial that accompanied the medal and trophy ceremony, but the president cut his acceptance speech short and humorously joked that the United States should adopt the term “football” instead of “soccer” because American football “doesn’t really make sense when you think about it.”

To conclude the event, Village People performed President Trump’s unofficial national anthem, “YMCA.”

Lionel Messi and the defending world champions have been placed in Group J alongside Algeria, Austria and Jordan, giving them a new clear path to the finals.

“We will give our all and try to do what we did in the last World Cup, which is to not give up any ball and give it our all,” said Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni.

Barring injury, Messi and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo will set a record by playing in a record sixth World Cup next summer.

world cup lottery loser

France

The world No. 3 team had a difficult draw, putting them in the same group as Senegal (Africa’s No. 2 team) and a Norwegian team featuring Manchester City’s record-setting striker Erling Haaland.

France famously faltered at the start of its title defense against Senegal at the 2002 World Cup, but this was perhaps the best result in the country’s history.

“It’s always fun to play against France. France is a country we know well. It’s a second home for me,” said Pape Tiao, Senegal’s 2002 national team coach. “24 years later we will play them again. It worked well for us in 2002. This will not be an easy game. We will be well prepared.”

england

The Three Lions, who are ranked fourth in the world, had the misfortune of having Croatia assigned to Group L. After defeating England in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup, the Croats lost to France in the final and finished third in the Qatar 2022 tournament.

Things could certainly have gone worse for England as the other two countries in the group were Panama and Ghana, but opening the tournament against one of the best teams in the world is not ideal. Coach Thomas Tuchel spoke candidly about the challenges of playing in the summer heat and time zones across North America, and reaffirmed his team’s tenacity after the draw.

“We have to find a way to dig in,” Tuchel told reporters. “We have to accept that and build a high tolerance for these obstacles.”

The fans

There wasn’t much football talk during the first half of the two-hour raffle, hosted by Heidi Klum and Kevin Hart. Infantino congratulated President Donald Trump on winning the first FIFA Peace Prize.

Viewers were also treated to a FIFA Trump highlight reel and a low-key musical performance by Robbie Williams and Nicole Scherzinger live from the Kennedy Center.

As much as it was fun to see Shaquille O’Neal and Tom Brady struggle on the first pitch or Wayne Gretzky butchering the pronunciations of multiple countries, did anyone else enjoy this?

Shredded cheese recall map shows US states affected

Shredded cheese sold under various brand names at popular grocery stores such as Target, Walmart and Aldi is being recalled because it may contain metal fragments.

The recall was initiated by Ohio-based Great Lakes Cheese Co. on Oct. 3 and was ongoing as of Dec. 1, according to a recently updated Food and Drug Administration (FDA) report. The agency classified the recall as “Class II,” meaning the food in question “may cause temporary or medically reversible health damage.”

The recalled cheese products were a mix that was sold in 31 states under a variety of brand names, including store brands such as Good & Gather, Great Value, Publix, Sprouts and Happy Farms.

The warning says the metal pieces can cause injury if eaten. Great Lakes Cheese Co. told USA TODAY in a Dec. 3 statement that all affected products have been removed from store shelves and replaced with new products.

“Additionally, the products currently in retail stores are safe to consume and are unrelated to the October recall,” the company said. “Although the enforcement report marks the recall status as ongoing, our records indicate that all products have been permanently removed from store shelves.”

However, the affected cheese may still be in the customer’s refrigerator. Here’s what you need to know about the recall and where the cheese was sold.

Approximately 10,000 CreateOn Crayola brand pip-Cubes were recalled on Thursday, Dec. 4, because they pose an “ingestion hazard” to children, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The building cubes contain magnets that can become dislodged if the seams separate, according to the CPSC notice.

If ingested, the strong magnets can stick to each other or other metal objects, which can cause gastrointestinal blockages, according to the CPSC notice. The agency says it can lead to perforation, twisting or blockage of the intestines, sepsis and death.

Createon, a manufacturer of magnetic tiles for construction, said that as of December 4, no injuries had been reported.

“CreateOn takes product safety very seriously and is cooperating fully with the CPSC regarding this voluntary recall,” the Wheeling, Illinois-based manufacturer said in a statement. “We have taken all necessary steps, including notifying consumers, updating our website with recall instructions, and working with our retail partners to remove affected products from shelves.”

President Trump’s Venezuela pressure campaign is part of American tradition

0

For more than a century, U.S. presidents have successfully removed Latin American leaders. What you need to know about US involvement in coups in the region.

play

Infamous Panamanian Marine General Manuel Noriega was sent as a prisoner of war. Salvador Allende, Chile’s first socialist president who died in a U.S.-backed military coup. Jacobo Arbenz was Guatemala’s progressive president who resigned after his military was fooled by CIA propaganda.

Will Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro be next?

If President Donald Trump has his way, the Venezuelan dictator will join a growing list of Latin American leaders dating back to the early 1900s that U.S. officials have urged to step down.

Few of the ousted leaders are household names in the United States, where Latin American politics attracts little attention. But senior U.S. officials are keeping a close eye on neighboring countries and have moved repeatedly to overthrow their leaders.

“The idea that we now want to decide the future of Venezuela is nothing new,” Stephen Kinser, author of a book on U.S.-orchestrated regime change around the world, told USA TODAY. “What is happening now is part of a long tradition in which the Caribbean and its neighbors are being asked to accept the global political reality that there are implicit limits on what small countries can do in the vicinity of large powers.”

Official reasons for U.S.-backed coups in the past have included everything from defending U.S. business interests and citizens to establishing a better government.

White House officials say Mr. Maduro is the leader of a drug-trafficking cartel designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the State Department. President Maduro denies any link to the illegal drug trade.

The public reason for intervention is usually a cover story, Kinser said, and the simpler explanation is that the White House won’t tolerate opposition in its own backyard.

“It’s definitely not a drug problem. Venezuela is a minor player,” said Kinser, who also worked as a foreign correspondent for the New York Times based in Latin America. “President Maduro is rebellious and does not accept the geopolitical reality that these countries should respect American hegemony.”

Historians say U.S. efforts to forcefully dictate the shape of the Western Hemisphere can be traced back to the early 1900s, when President Theodore Roosevelt established the outcome of the Monroe Doctrine and signaled that the U.S. was prepared to intervene by force. The Monroe Doctrine of the 1800s called on European powers to stay away from the region.

In November, the White House said it would act to extend the Monroe Doctrine as a corollary and create “a hemisphere of governments working together against narco-terrorists, cartels, and other transnational criminal organizations.”

“This is a direct extension of the Roosevelt Corollary 121 years later, the Monroe Doctrine,” said Christopher Nichols, a Woodrow Wilson scholar at Ohio State University. “It’s an extension to ensure that the United States explicitly intervenes without just cause and doesn’t bother appealing to the international community.”

As President Trump continues to bomb ships off the coast of Venezuela and considers land attacks, let’s take a look at past U.S.-backed regime changes in the region, how U.S. leaders accomplished them, and what has happened since.

Nicaragua’s “Dangerous Dictator”, 1909

The first successful action by a U.S. president to overthrow a Latin American leader occurred in 1909, when Nicaraguan President José Santos Zelaya resigned after President Howard Taft deployed warships off the coast of Nicaragua and Marines across the border in Panama.

According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Zelaya came to power in 1893 as the leader of a rebellion. U.S. leaders initially praised Zelaya. President Roosevelt called him a “great and good friend.”

American businessmen were frustrated when a Central American president imposed regulations. Business executives supported the Nicaraguan rebellion, and Taft’s government sent in the military after Mr. Zelaya executed two rebel American mercenaries.

According to the State Department, Taft saw the U.S. intervention as a move to “remove a dangerous dictator and establish a better government.” The agency said Nicaraguans viewed the U.S. intervention as a ruse to take over the railroads and banks.

Nicaragua’s state news agency, Nicaragua Investiga, said what followed Zelaya’s ouster was “years of U.S. territorial control and, as a result, control of the country’s financial policy by Wall Street bankers.”

Banana King targets Honduras, 1911

According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Honduran President Miguel Dávila, installed by Zelaya, was next to be overthrown in 1911.

In “Overthrow: A Century of American Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq,” Mr. Kinser writes that Zelaya’s disciples clashed with American businessmen after trying to impose regulations and limit the amount of land that could be owned in the country.

Rebel forces funded by American banana king Sam Zemley invaded. U.S. officials banned further fighting and Mr. Dávila resigned.

Honduras’ newly installed president, Manuel Bonilla, gave Mr. Zemurray, also known as “Sam the Banana Man,” approximately 35,000 acres of banana land and $500,000.

Mr. Zemley became president of United Fruit Company, the company that sells the Chiquita brand of bananas commonly found in grocery stores.

CIA deceives Guatemala, 1954

According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Mr. Zemurray played a key role in the next regime change in the region, the ouster of President Jacobo Arbenz, a former minister of war who came to power with support from the military and the Guatemalan Communist Party.

Arbenz’s attempts to redistribute idle land owned by Zemley’s United Fruit Company and raise taxes on the company alarmed Secretary of State John Foster Dulles.

The Central Intelligence Agency, led by Mr. Dulles’ brother Allen Dulles, responded by organizing an army of Guatemalan exiles, and Mr. Arbenz resigned after his unit refused to fight troops massing across the border between Honduras and El Salvador.

Kinzer said among the intelligence agencies’ tricks were flying planes emblazoned with Guatemalan rebel insignia over the country and setting up a fake radio station in Miami that broadcast fake troop movements to give the impression of a large-scale rebel movement.

US hangs Humpty Dumpty on the wall in Chile, 1973

Peter Siaveris, a political science professor at Wake Forest University, said by phone from Chile that U.S. involvement in Allende’s ouster was indirect but important.

Although American troops were never sent to the country, President Richard Nixon imposed an “invisible blockade” and the CIA provided funding to right-wing groups. Among them are the conspirators who stopped soon-to-be dictator Augusto Pinochet’s rise to the top of the military and ultimately killed the general.

“The United States was not substantively involved in the actual coup,” Siaveris said. But “the United States pushed Humpty Dumpty against the wall, and the United States made Humpty Dumpty very unstable, making it really easy for Pinochet to come along and push him off the wall.”

Pinochet’s regime was brutal. Thousands were killed, many more were tortured, and tens of thousands fled into exile. The author of several books on the country said that democracy was restored decades later only because the country’s institutions remained strong and its people continued to adhere to its democratic traditions.

The outcome is likely to be even worse in Venezuela, where democracy has not been effectively practiced for decades and the country remains deeply divided among regional powers loyal to Maduro, Siavelis said.

“The fundamental problem is that you don’t have a plan for the next day,” he says. “It’s easy to overthrow a weak regime like Maduro’s. What’s really difficult is stabilizing a polarized country with no democratic tradition or infrastructure, as we saw in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Use this tool to find out how much you should pay if your flight is delayed

0

play

My flight has been canceled or delayed. Well, what is it?

You probably feel that the airline is to blame for your troubles, but before you seek compensation, you should ask two important questions. Why was my flight canceled or delayed? If so, how long can I expect it to be delayed?

Your answer will determine how much you owe.

Next, check the Department of Transportation’s Airline Customer Service Dashboard to see what airlines are promising to do for people affected by “controllable” cancellations and delays. These are disruptions within the airline’s control, such as mechanical problems, staff shortages, and delays in cleaning and refueling.

Your rights are further limited if the underlying issue is beyond the airline’s control, such as weather, ground stops, or recent flight reduction orders during a government shutdown.

What is the Cancellations and Delays Dashboard?

The DOT Cancel and Delay Dashboard is a publicly available online tool that shows what various U.S. airlines are committed to providing to passengers when a flight is canceled or delayed for reasons within the airline’s control (such as staffing, maintenance, or mechanical issues). The dashboard uses a simple green check or red “X” format, allowing travelers to compare at a glance which airlines guarantee services such as free rebooking, meal and hotel coupons, ground transportation, and other accommodations in their situation.

The dashboard was introduced on September 1, 2022, following widespread flight disruptions and passenger complaints over the summer.

What do I have to pay if the airline cancels my flight?

Regardless of ticket type, DOT regulations require airlines to provide refunds if your flight is canceled for any reason and you choose not to fly in the future.

If you choose to continue your trip, you have the right to rebook on the same airline without penalty.

Additionally, if the cancellation is within the airline’s control:

  • Some airlines (Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, United Airlines) allow you to rebook on partner airlines for free.
  • Almost all major airlines offer free hotel stays and round-trip ground transportation to your hotel for overnight cancellations.
  • All major airlines offer meal or meal credits if you have to wait more than three hours for your next flight.

Additional details can be found on DOT’s dashboard. Airlines not listed on the dashboard list their customer service efforts on their websites.

If my flight is delayed, am I obligated to compensate?

The answer depends on the situation and the airline.

If the delay is outside of the Airline’s control, the Airline will have no additional obligations to you.

Even if the delay is within the airline’s control, the airline may not owe you anything if it is not considered a significant delay (usually at least three hours).

This coverage applies in the event of a significant delay within the airline’s control and typically reflects compensation for controllable cancellations. But this is not cash compensation and is not required by U.S. regulators. This is usually in the form of hotel, meal, or transportation vouchers, or a refund if you don’t fly.

One important thing to remember is that even if you don’t owe anything, airline customer service representatives may have the authority to offer you meal vouchers, mileage credits, or other compensation for your troubles on a case-by-case basis, so it pays to be polite and it never hurts to ask.

Hepatitis B vaccine not widely recommended at birth, RFK Junior Committee says

0

play

Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s influential Vaccine Advisory Committee voted to no longer universally recommend the first dose of hepatitis B vaccine for newborns within 24 hours of birth, in a sweeping overhaul of vaccine policy.

On Friday, December 5, a day after concluding its vote in a controversial meeting, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended “individualized decision-making” for parents of babies born to mothers who tested negative for hepatitis B. Parents who refuse to receive the vaccine at birth are advised to postpone the first vaccination until “at least 2 months old.”

Committee members who supported the change emphasized that the committee still recommends that newborns born to mothers with hepatitis B be vaccinated at birth. The committee’s recommendations will be sent to the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The commission has no regulatory authority, but states often consider its recommendations when mandating vaccinations for school-age children and other populations.

The committee also recommended that parents talk to their doctors and other health care providers about whether to get tested for antibodies during the three-dose vaccination, and that insurance companies cover the cost of the tests.

The committee’s vice chairman, Robert Malone, characterized the vote to no longer universally recommend prenatal doses of the vaccine as a conflict between individual rights and social obligations.

play

Could RFK Jr.’s Vaccine Committee Overturn Hepatitis B Vaccine?

Health Department Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Vaccine Advisory Committee will discuss and potentially postpone the critical immunization that protects infants from hepatitis B.

“We’re torn between these two opposing viewpoints,” Malone said. “There are two fundamental differences of opinion when it comes to individual rights and social rights.”

Commissioner Cody Meisner rejected the change. He said hepatitis B cases are decreasing due to the effectiveness of vaccines. Since the current three-dose regimen was adopted in 1991, hepatitis B infections among children and teenagers have declined sharply. A 2023 study published in the Official Journal of the U.S. Surgeon General found that a three-dose vaccine given at birth is effective in preventing cases of chronic hepatitis, which can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer.

“It would be a mistake to say that we can change the frequency or schedule of dosing because we don’t have that many illnesses, because hepatitis B infections will come back,” Meissner said.

Committee member Joseph Hibeln said the committee lacked data to support language that would delay the first dose, noting there was not enough evidence to suggest that some infants might be better protected by such a delay. He also noted that the wording of the question had changed four times in four days.

Commissioner Retsev Levy, who supported the change, said the risk to children born to mothers without hepatitis B was extremely low.

“Do you want to expose your baby to potentially harmful interventions?” Levi asked.

Chaotic meeting delays RFK Junior Vaccine Committee vote on hepatitis B vaccination

The Department of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Vaccine Advisory Committee has postponed a vote to change the timing of the first dose of hepatitis B vaccine for newborns.

Committee’s recommendations on hepatitis B draw criticism

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-Louisiana) criticized efforts to reschedule the hepatitis B vaccine. Cassidy, a liver doctor, said in a social media statement posted shortly after the vote that the committee’s recommendation was wrong.

“CDC Acting Director (Jim) O’Neill should not sign these new recommendations and instead maintain the current evidence-based approach,” Cassidy said.

On Thursday, he criticized the committee’s decision to invite Aaron Siri to discuss vaccinations, calling him “a trial lawyer who makes a living suing vaccine manufacturers. He’s speaking like he’s an expert on childhood vaccines.”

“(The commission) is completely discredited,” Cassidy said in a social media post Thursday. “They’re not protecting their children.”

Dr. Richard Besser, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and former acting CDC director, said the vote puts the health of children at risk.

“This vote opens the door to a resurgence of hepatitis B infections and is another step in the administration’s concerted effort to eliminate the recommended childhood vaccination schedule,” Besser said.

He said more infants and toddlers will suffer severe illness and some will die.

“As we care about the health of our children, we cannot allow this to happen,” Besser said. “Policy makers, doctors and families should look to trusted medical and public health organizations for guidance, and health insurance companies should do the same to let them know what vaccines are covered.”

According to Finish Line, outdoor enthusiast and environmental activist Doug Tompkins founded The North Face in the 1960s. In 1966, Tompkins and his then-wife founded a retail and mail order company, and the Grateful Dead played at the store’s grand opening. The store became famous for its sleeping bags, backpacks, and tents.

The company’s name, “The North Face,” comes from “the coldest, most unforgiving side of the mountain,” and the company announced online that it helps mountaineers endure inclement weather.

The North Face is headquartered in Denver, Colorado and has more than 1,500 retail stores worldwide. The brand is also sold at specialty sporting goods stores such as Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Kardashian co-founded the SKIMS brand in 2019 with Swedish businessman Jens Grede and his wife Emma Grede. The company advertises itself as “redefining women’s underwear, loungewear, and shapewear, setting new standards by offering solutions for every body.” SKIMS also started selling men’s products in 2023. JD Vance dispels rumors about his marriage to Usha Vance

play

Vice President J.D. Vance is trying to dispel rumors of a marital rift with second lady Usha Vance after speculation spread online in recent weeks.

“I think it got a little carried away,” Vance said in an interview with NBC News after being asked about his dissatisfaction with the second lady being photographed without her wedding ring.

A spokesperson for the second woman told USA TODAY in a statement on Nov. 21 that she is “a mother of three young children who cooks a lot, bathes a lot and sometimes forgets her ring.” The Vance family has three children: Ewan, 8, Vivec, 5, and Mirabel, 3.

“It’s funny,” the vice president said, referring to the headline, “and I don’t think it’s actually harsh.” Vance also said that a few days after he first forgot his wedding ring, he accidentally left it again after his spouse took a shower.

“She was like, ‘Oh, if I don’t go back and get it, there’s going to be some crazy psychotic person talking about it on social media,'” Vance said. “And I thought, let’s just leave it to them. It’s not even worth the trouble of running upstairs. So we’re actually having a little fun with it. And we thought the whole social media viral cycle was kind of funny.”

Vance, who married his wife in 2014, told NBC News, “You take everything in life, the good and the bad.”

“It’s accepting that there will be some sacrifices, but there will also be some very good things that come with it,” he continued. “But our marriage is as strong as it’s ever been and I think Usha is really into it. And it’s kind of cool to see how she’s developed and evolved in this new role.”

The second lady sparked internet speculation last month when she visited the military base Camp Lejeune with first lady Melania Trump without her wedding ring. Despite the controversy on social media, Vance has been photographed numerous times with and without his wedding ring.

Vance called himself a “romantic” in an August interview with USA TODAY while opening up about pop star Taylor Swift’s summer engagement to NFL tight end Travis Kelce.

“I’m a romantic,” Vance said in an interview. “When I see two people who love each other get married, I wish them well and congratulate them, and I hope they have a long, healthy and happy life together.”

Former Prince Andrew still not out of legal trouble

0

Andrew Lowney, author of ‘Title: The Rise and Fall of the House of York’, says the royal family was ‘preoccupied’ with the Andrew scandal.

play

When King Charles announced that his brother Andrew would be stripped of his royal titles and kicked out of his luxurious home at Royal Lodge because of his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, it marked an incredible fall from grace.

The former prince, known as Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite son, has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. But the effects of his actions still linger. On Monday 1 December, by royal order, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s name was “stripped” from the prestigious Order of the Garter and the Royal Victorian Order of Honor.

But will this erase the stain on the royal family? USA TODAY spoke to Andrew Rowney, historian and author of the new book “The Rise and Fall of the House of York,” about the future of the royal family.

The Epstein File Transparency Act was passed, requiring the Justice Department to release documents in the Epstein case by December 19th. What do you think will be revealed about the former prince?

Andrew Rowney: Well, I don’t know. I understand that there is a lot of material about him. I think there is a risk that many materials will not be made public. We’ve already seen quite a few revelations…particularly the length of his relationship with Epstein.

There is a bit of caution about him leaving Royal Lodge. He has been given one year to leave the country. He basically claims he really wants to have a pretty big house on the Sandringham estate. He wants to hire servants, drivers, gardeners, and housekeepers. So it’s probably not a fall from grace like everyone assumes. He claims he needs compensation because he has a cast iron lease.

In other words, what is said in public and what actually happens in private are completely different things.

You detail in your book that Andrew was photographed with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach in February 2000. He also played cards and golf. What do you think their relationship was like, and how do you think Andrew’s fall from grace could ultimately affect the president?

Well, the relationship is good. So they have three common interests: women, golf, and making money. And Andrew was actually assigned to look after President Trump during his previous state visit. Although Trump now claims he does not know Andrew, there is plenty of evidence that they were very close.

Andrew was the Queen’s favorite son. In your book, you cite reports that three officials wrote to the Queen in January 2015 to express their concerns about him. Do you think these concerns actually reached the Queen, or do you think she was deliberately protecting her son?

I think that concern has reached the Queen. Of course, they were directed at his private secretary at the time, and he was like, “She’s not interested, so there’s actually no point in making these complaints.” She had a complete blind spot.

play

Andrew’s relationship with convicted sex offender Epstein led to his downfall

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, has been stripped of his royal title over his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

So do you think the Queen knew details about Epstein long before his death and still protected Andrew?

Yes, without a doubt. The Queen knew very well. The Queen’s household is full of former intelligence agents, or the King’s household is full. The private secretary was a former military intelligence officer. There are good reasons why they choose these people. They are careful, so they know many secrets.

King Charles formally stripped his brother of his title and removed his name from prestigious royal honors. Why do you think it took Charles so long to take action?

You are talking about honors taken away from him, (but) they were actually often given to him after scandals broke out and nothing was done. In a way, it’s confusing that both the Queen and Charles believe that the problem will be resolved and the news agenda will move on.

William has seen the reputational damage in the past and feels he needs to get ahead of the situation. That’s why, just over a month ago, they realized that public opinion was calling for something to happen. And it’s tied to Trump. There is a sense that elites have been acting in their own interests for too long, and those in power need to be held accountable.

You write in your book about how there was tension between Prince William, Prince Harry and their uncle. What do you think the boys knew about Andrew, Epstein and Virginia Giuffre?

I think William certainly knows a lot. As heir to the throne, he would have been briefed. I’ve seen the documents of the meeting…I’m sure they were aware of what was going on. You can see how William feels about his uncle by watching the Duchess of Kent’s funeral.

There’s always hope that Prince William and Prince Harry will reunite. Do you think it’s possible that having a common enemy in Andrew could somehow unite the boys?

I don’t think anything can bring them back. They are both very stubborn and have been told many things that cannot be said.

The scandal also affected Sarah Ferguson. You detail how he racked up millions in debt and suggest that Andrew or the Queen may have paid off those debts. How much tax money do you think has been used to support Andrew and Fergie over the years?

Sarah’s debt payments and payments to Guiffre came from personal funds. So I don’t think it’s the people’s tax. But over the years, I think it’s been difficult to quantify how much money was spent on their safety, traveling by jet where they could go on a commercial plane, or taking helicopters where they could go by car.

That’s why we need more transparency about the Royal Family’s finances. We need to know what the costs are. But I think the palace realizes that it will lead to rebellion because there are concerns that the royal family is not offering value for money. Some people, like Princess Anne, work extremely hard. Some people don’t, and that affects their popularity.

Andrew no longer had the protection of the palace. What does that mean? Could he actually be investigated, prosecuted, and even jailed?

He is being released because he is worried that he will be charged. They don’t want reputational damage. He had what appeared to be an infected limb that was affecting other parts of his body.

There are two reasons why he can be indicted. One was about sex trafficking, which was investigated three times, but the Metropolitan Police decided there was nothing to see there. But I think a strong case is made that this needs to be revisited.

There are also financial crimes. Emails were discovered in which he allegedly obtained information about Guiffle and attempted to smear her. This is a crime based on misconduct in public office, and one of the penalties is life imprisonment.

So I think he could be prosecuted. I don’t think he will ever spend any time in prison. I suspect he will instead take a late-night flight to the Middle East, like Spain’s Jaun Carlos (former King of Spain who fled to Abu Dhabi after being accused of corruption). There is no extradition treaty between Bahrain and the UK.

If he flees the country, it would seem to be an admission of guilt. And he has always denied wrongdoing.

It has to be said that he denies the charges, but the fact is that he has not cooperated with either the victim’s attorney or law enforcement for the past 15 years.

Do you think the palace can recover? Will Prince William be able to start his reign with a clean slate?

yes. As long as they address this issue, I think the public will be satisfied that Andrew will be released and justice will be served. William, Kate and their young family are very popular. I think people are very aligned with what they want to do. It’s a monarchy that focuses more on a few good deeds rather than (more) pomp and ceremony.

We want a monarchy. We have seen how effective soft power can be in uniting a country, for example at the end of the Donald Trump presidency. The monarchy has wide support but needs to be reformed. Ironically, Andrew may have been the one to bring about that change.

Trump receives the FIFA Peace Prize. Will he win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2026?

0

President Donald Trump has received a new honor: the FIFA Peace Prize.

On Dec. 5, FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented Trump with the inaugural award, which includes a trophy, medal, and certificate, while attending the 2026 World Cup draw at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

“We want to come together. That’s what we’ll do here today and what we’ll do at the World Cup, Mr. President,” Infantino said. “And you definitely deserve to receive the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize for your actions and what you have gained from it.”

President Trump has threatened to attack Venezuela in the future and has touted his peace record, saying he has resolved eight wars. While he called the FIFA Peace Prize “one of the great honors of my life,” it’s no secret that he had long hoped to win another Peace Prize – to become a Nobel Prize winner.

President Trump claims he will never win the Nobel Peace Prize

President Trump has long wanted to win the Nobel Peace Prize and has mocked and questioned why former President Barack Obama won the award in his first year in office. President Trump has said he is confident he won’t win no matter what, but many people are making noise about his nomination.

Days before the 2025 awards were announced, USA TODAY asked President Trump if he thought he would win the award.

“I don’t know…Marco would say we’ve solved seven wars, and we’re about to settle an eighth,” Trump said. A ceasefire between Hamas and Israel went into effect a few days later. “I don’t think anyone in history has settled as many, but maybe they’ll find a reason not to give it to me.”

Will he win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2026?

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize was announced on October 10th, but the deadline for nominations was January 31st. The Nobel Committee will not reveal who has been nominated for the prize until 50 years later. Nominations can be submitted by anyone who meets the requirements, including members of national governments. Several world leaders had nominated him, but said the deadline was after 2025. That means he could be considered in 2026.

On June 20, Pakistani leaders announced they would nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his “determined diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership in the recent India-Pakistan crisis.” India did not give credit to the United States for the ceasefire.

In a June 24 letter, Republican lawmakers named Trump a supporter of the Iran-Israel ceasefire after the United States joined Israel in bombing Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said in July that he had nominated Trump for the award. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he supported Trump’s award at a White House ceremony in August.

In a letter posted on social media in August, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in establishing a ceasefire with Thailand. The nomination was supported by thousands of Cambodian Buddhist monks who took part in a peace march in the immediate aftermath.

Who will win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025?

The 2025 award went to Venezuelan opposition activist Maria Colina Machado. She thanked President Trump “for his unwavering support of our cause.”

But Trump’s team wasn’t satisfied.

“The Nobel Committee has proven that it prioritizes politics over peace,” White House communications director Stephen Chan wrote on social media.

According to the organization, there were 338 candidates for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Of these, 244 were individuals and 94 were organizations.

Penn State advertising director Pat Kraft leaks audio of players he allegedly met with during coaching investigation

Just when you thought Penn State’s coaching search couldn’t take any more twists and turns, he was stomped on by the Crumble Cookie Man and accused of calling people at Oregon State “freaks.”

Penn State has been without a permanent head coach since firing James Franklin on October 12th. This is the biggest task left in the whirlwind coaching merry-go-round. Penn State has relationships with a number of coaches, many of whom signed new contracts to stay. With two players in the 2026 recruiting class, Happy Valley’s problems are getting worse.

On Thursday night, audio of a meeting between Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft and Nittany Lions players was leaked on “Dead Air Sports.” The video with audio recording was compiled from longer conversations.

USA TODAY Network reached out to Penn State for comment on the recording, which touched on the coaching search, how the NIL is distributed, recruiting to State College’s “out there” and matchups with Big Ten rivals Michigan and Oregon. Pennsylvania officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“I want everyone to know this: If I don’t get this right, my career is over,” the person who led the alleged meeting said in the recording. “Understand that. If I don’t hire the right person, my career is over. So this is very serious to me… If I don’t hire the right person, within two years they’re going to fire my ass. And I’m not going to get the next AD job. ‘How can I (expletive) elevate Penn State?'”

Other highlights from the leaked audio include::

∎ “What happens here at Penn State over and over again is they settle for (expletive) the next best thing. That’s why we took action.”

∎ “I think Oregon State is a fraud. I don’t think they’re tough. That’s our strength, our toughness.”

∎ Player: “Honestly, I think the biggest reason players don’t want to come here is that it’s in the middle of nowhere.”

Leader: “Oh, that’s right. Our fans, our people don’t understand. It’s a challenge. ‘What am I going to do (expletive)?’ “Oregon? Have you ever been to Oregon? There’s no (expletive) going on, there’s a bunch of (expletive) weirdos.”

∎ “Ohio State is Ohio State. But (expletive) A, they’re not light years ahead of us in terms of talent. They can’t get over the (expletive) hump! Michigan stinks (expletive). (expletive) joke. They fooled the ball. What they did was so real. Oregon State? Their (expletive) The quarterback was shaking in overtime. But we have to win those” (expletive) games. ”

∎ “Can we talk about the NIL? This is one of the highest-paid rosters in the country. With the money that’s being spent right now… Texas Tech is $40 million because billionaires are just dropping money on them. It’s crazy. (Expletive) Ridiculous. This roster that’s on the field right now is probably top-four. How the money is spent is another story. But the program’s money… That’s the strategy behind it.”

Supreme Court rules whether President Trump can limit birthright citizenship

0

The Supreme Court had previously limited the justices’ ability to halt President Trump’s birthright citizenship change. However, he did not comment on whether the policy was legal. Lower courts said otherwise.

play

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court will decide whether President Donald Trump can abolish birthright citizenship for some children born in the United States, adding another major Trump policy — and one of his most controversial — to the list of policies being considered this term.

The high court agreed on Dec. 5 to reconsider a lower court that rejected President Trump’s argument that children of parents who are in the country illegally or temporarily are not entitled to citizenship.

Courts are already considering whether to uphold the sweeping tariffs that are the centerpiece of President Trump’s economic policy and his primary foreign policy tool.

A judge will then decide whether President Trump can fire the head of an independent agency for any reason.

So far, courts have primarily considered whether President Trump’s controversial policies can advance during litigation. Most of the rulings went Trump’s way, including a June ruling that limited the power of judges to halt Trump’s birthright citizenship policy without commenting on its legality.

However, lower courts have determined that these limitations are no bar to keeping the policy on hold.

Now a judge will decide whether it can be enforced.

Legal experts say birthright citizenship is a good example if the conservative court, which includes three Trump-appointed justices, wants to show the public that it can stand up to the president.

Multiple federal courts have reviewed his policies and ruled them illegal.

“The lower court’s decision invalidates a policy most important to the President and his administration, in a way that undermines border security,” Attorney General John Sauer said in the Justice Department’s appeal. “These decisions confer the privileges of American citizenship to hundreds of thousands of ineligible people without legal legitimacy.”

The high court agreed to review a ruling by a federal district judge in New Hampshire that sided with the American Civil Liberties Union, which represents U.S.-born infants denied automatic citizenship.

The ACLU had argued there was no reason for the judge to become involved.

“The President’s claims are so egregious that the courts should completely refuse to review them and end this cruel policy without further delay,” ACLU attorney Cody Wofsy said in a statement in response to the administration’s appeal.

The regime maintains that infants born to parents who are in the country illegally or temporarily are not entitled to citizenship under Article 14.th Amendments added after the Civil War to ensure blacks had citizenship.

That article reads, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and who are subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, are nationals of the United States and of the state in which they reside.”

President Trump claims children born to non-citizen parents will be excluded ‘according to jurisdiction’, That’s because, even though they must obey U.S. laws during their stay, they may feel loyal to a foreign country.

He directed federal agencies not to grant citizenship to infants born in the United States without at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, known as a “green card” holder.

Lower courts said Trump’s interpretation contradicts the plain language of the citizenship clause, is inconsistent with the Supreme Court’s landmark 1898 ruling on the clause, and violates the Immigration and Nationality Act, first passed in 1940.

The President, based in San Franciscoth The U.S. Court of Appeals said the lawsuit brought by four states adopted a “draconian and novel constitutional interpretation” that was “unjust”.

Commercials promoting Trump’s watches continue to air on networks like NewsMax, offering watches autographed by the president starting at $499.

Trump’s watches remain a hot item, with novelty watches featuring Trump’s likeness and signature being advertised on the conservative news channel Newsmax, where watches can cost thousands of dollars for fans of the current administration.

“Hello everyone. This is President Donald J. Trump, and it’s Trump time,” the president can be seen promoting a $499 watch from his “Fight Fight Fight” collection in the commercial. “Look at this red beauty. This is one of my new watches. Wear it proudly on your wrist so everyone knows exactly what it’s for, who it’s for, and who it represents. It’s going to be something really special. It’s for your favorite president,” he continues.

Is Trump’s watch worth $100,000?

The cheapest watch is $499 and the most expensive is $2,999. The watch, made of solid gold, costs $100,000 and is already sold out.

Does Donald Trump make Trump watches?

Donald Trump himself is not involved in any company that makes watches. Trump has previously licensed his likeness on a variety of products, including Trump vodka and wrapping paper, but is not directly involved in manufacturing or selling those products.

The company that promotes Trump Watch on cable news has no direct connection to the current president. A disclaimer on the company’s website says the company developing the product, TheBestWatchesonEarth LLC, has licensed Trump’s name, image and likeness. Watches can be purchased at GetTrumpWatches.com.

Is Trump’s watch made of real gold?

Trump watches display a variety of materials and components. Most feature gold-plated stainless steel cases and bracelet variations, some with diamonds and some available only in stainless steel.

The $100,000 Trump watch, which is currently sold out, was advertised as being “constructed almost entirely of 18-karat gold and decorated with 122 diamonds.”

The manufacturing materials and components of a Trump watch vary depending on the price range of the watch. Some are made with high-end Swiss components, while many are made with more affordable timekeeping mechanisms.

Most of the Trump watches on offer are made from a combination of stainless steel and aluminum.

What Netflix’s Warner Bros. acquisition means for the future of streaming

0

play

Netflix announced it would acquire Warner Bros. Discovery for $72 billion, in one of the most massive deals in recent Hollywood history. The deal gives the streaming giant control of rival HBO Max and the storied movie studio.

This deal is sure to change the streaming landscape significantly. Here’s the latest on the industry, past consolidation, and the ongoing battle between streaming and cable.

Who streams? Does anyone still watch cable?

Streaming is king. According to a 2025 study by Pew Research Center, the majority of American consumers (83%) use streaming services. Only 36% still subscribe to cable or satellite TV.

Age is important. Streaming is nearly universal among consumers under 50. In contrast, only 65% of older adults use streaming services, Pew Research found.

According to Deloitte research, the typical streaming customer subscribes to four services and pays $69 per month.

Gen Z and Millennials are more active streamers. They subscribe to an average of five services. Half of young streamers say they have canceled their streaming subscription within the past six months. This is a habit called churn.

If the cord cutters’ purpose was to save money, they succeeded. According to Deloitte, cable and satellite customers pay $125 a month.

Netflix is king among streaming services

Netflix is the number one streaming service. According to Pew Research, the top streaming services are:

  • Netflix (72% of adults watch shows on this service)
  • Amazon Prime Video (67%)
  • Hulu (52%)
  • Disney+ (48%)
  • Paramount+ (44%)
  • Peacock (41%)
  • HBO Max (41%)
  • Apple TV+ (25%)

Analysts say the expected merger between Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery moves Netflix ever closer to winning the streaming wars.

“The global media industry is on the precipice of historic change, and[Warner Bros. Discovery]is at its epicenter,” Bank of America analyst Jessica Lief Ehrlich said in a recent report, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Why are streaming services integrated?

Streaming services have struggled to turn a profit because they need to attract millions of paying customers to cover the costs of producing programming.

The struggle for profitability led to consolidation. Disney acquired Hulu in 2019. WarnerMedia and Discovery will merge in 2022, bringing together HBO Max and Discovery+. Paramount and Skydance Media announced a merger earlier this year.

Streaming service mergers have entered the zeitgeist. In the 2025 Apple TV series “The Studio,” the season finale centered on the suspense surrounding Amazon’s potential acquisition of the fictional Continental Studios.

Some critics worry that the Netflix-Warner deal will make Netflix too big. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said in a Nov. 17 letter to the Justice Department that the merger could give the combined businesses a share of more than 30% of the streaming market, “a standard that has traditionally been considered potentially problematic under antitrust law.”

US security report says Europe faces ‘eradication of civilization’

0

play

BERLIN – Europe is facing “civilizational annihilation” and must pivot to remain a reliable ally of the United States, according to the U.S. National Security Strategy posted on the White House website.

The document was the latest in a series of statements by U.S. officials and policymakers that upended postwar assumptions about Europe’s relationship with its strongest allies.

“Our goal is to help Europe correct its current trajectory,” the document said, adding: “We look forward to working with allies who want to restore Europe to its former greatness.”

The National Security Strategy is a document released periodically by the executive branch that outlines the president’s vision for the nation, including related priorities, threats, and strategies.

It includes a foreword signed by US President Donald Trump, who said it is “a roadmap to ensure America remains the greatest and most successful nation in human history.”

Strategy reflects J.D. Vance’s speech that caused alarm

Some of the language in the document was reminiscent of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance’s speech in Munich in February that shocked European capitals. Vance said his biggest concern is Europe’s “threat from within” and a retreat from the values it shares with the United States.

The strategy document said the United States remains “emotionally attached” to European countries, including the United Kingdom and Ireland, and that “the character of these countries is also of strategic importance.”

He pointed to Europe’s economic weakness and accused the Union of undermining political freedoms and sovereignty, censoring free speech, suppressing political opposition, and pursuing immigration policies that are “transforming the continent.”

If current trends continue, Europe will be “unrecognizable” within 20 years, he said, and “it is not at all clear that some European countries will have strong enough economies and militaries to remain reliable allies.”

The document said it was “very likely” that within a few decades some of NATO’s members would be “majority non-European” and that it was an “open question” whether they would view the alliance the same way.

play

NATO executives meet with President Trump

President Donald Trump met with NATO chiefs as America’s future in the alliance remains uncertain.

Fox – 5 Atlanta

The European Commission declined to comment on the document. “The tone on Europe is not encouraging. It’s even worse than Vance’s speech in Munich in February,” said one European diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity.

European politicians and officials are putting up with Washington’s tone, but remain heavily reliant on U.S. military aid as they rush to rebuild their neglected militaries to counter the perceived Russian threat.

The document said it was in the United States’ strategic interest to negotiate an early resolution to the Ukraine issue and re-establish “strategic stability” with Russia.

The newspaper said the Trump administration is at odds with European officials who have “unrealistic expectations” about the Ukraine war, and that many are trampling fundamental democratic principles to suppress domestic opposition.

“The majority of Europe wants peace, but the failure to translate that desire into policy is largely due to the subversion of democratic processes by these governments,” the report said.

Kim Cattrall is a married woman.

The 69-year-old “Sex and the City” actress tied the knot with sound engineer Russell Thomas on December 4 in London, People newspaper reported. The couple’s intimate ceremony was held at Chelsea Old Town Hall, with just 12 people in attendance, the newspaper reported.

Cattrall wore a Dior suit with a white tulle skirt and a sophisticated blazer. According to People, she paired the ensemble with Cornelia James gloves and an elaborate Philip Treacy hat. Mr Thomas, 55, wore a custom suit by Richard James.

Cattrall, known for playing the wild and witty Samantha Jones in Sex and the City, met Thomas when she appeared on the BBC in 2016. She told Glamor in 2018 that their relationship took off after he slid into her DMs on X.

“It was very, very modern. It was very easy,” she told the outlet. “He’s a wonderful person.”

Cattrall further gushed about their relationship in a 2020 interview with People, saying that their bond grew stronger because they shared the same birthplace in England.

“I feel very safe with him,” she said. “He’s a firecracker, has a wicked sense of humor, and is easy on the eyes!”

“I love him,” she added. “And he was worth the wait.”

This is Cattrall’s fourth marriage. The actress first married Larry Davis in 1977. Although they divorced a few years later, she married architect Andre J. Lyson in 1982. After divorcing in 1989, she married audio engineer Mark Levinson in 1998 and divorced six years later.
