The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks are ready to host Super Bowl 60 in Santa Clara, California, but one character will be missing.

President Donald Trump attended the Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans in 2025, but will not be attending this year’s game. In an interview with the New York Post in January, President Trump said his decision to skip the game was a matter of distance.

“That’s too far away. They will. I got great hands in the Super Bowl. They like me,” Trump told the outlet.

Instead, President Trump will be interviewed by NBC News’ Tom Lamas on Wednesday, February 4th, with portions of the interview scheduled to be broadcast on the network’s Super Bowl pregame show on Sunday, February 8th.

Here’s what you need to know:

Trump and the halftime show

Despite not attending the Super Bowl, President Trump loudly criticized this year’s halftime show performer Bad Bunny.

Bad Bunny slammed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement while accepting the award for Best Musical Urban Album at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 1st.

“Before I say thank God, ICE is going to say get out,” the Puerto Rican singer said.

Bad Bunny, a longtime critic of the Trump administration, faced intense backlash from both the president and conservatives after announcing his Super Bowl performance.

In the same interview with the New York Post, President Trump called it a “terrible choice” for a halftime show, but the conservative group Turning Point USA announced an alternative halftime show featuring Kid Rock and others.

On Thursday, February 5, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt told reporters that the White House expects President Trump to change the channel during the Super Bowl and watch Kid Rock instead of Bad Bunny.

“I think the president would prefer Kid Rock’s performance over Bad Bunny, I have to say that,” Levitt said.
