The Treasury Department is changing the banks that handle recipients’ debit cards, with Bank 3 replacing Comerica Bank instead of Bank 5.
The next round of Social Security benefits is scheduled to begin this week, sending monthly benefits to millions of retirees and other beneficiaries amid growing debate over the program’s long-term future.
Beneficiaries born between the 2nd and 11th of each month will receive their benefits on Wednesday, July 15, according to the Social Security Administration. The payments come as policymakers debate how to strengthen the program, which is expected to be underfunded in the coming years.
Social Security’s retirement trust fund could be depleted as early as 2032, according to some projections. If lawmakers don’t intervene, retirees could see their benefits cut by an estimated 28%, spurring competing ideas to preserve the program’s long-term finances.
One proposal that recently gained attention came from a Washington think tank that proposed capping annual Social Security benefits at $100,000 as a way to shore up retirement trust funds.

Who will receive Social Security payments this week?
According to the SSA payment calendar, beneficiaries born between the 2nd and 11th of each month are scheduled to receive their monthly Social Security benefits on Wednesday, July 15th.
When will my Social Security payments be sent?
Most Social Security recipients receive their benefits on Wednesday, and the payment date is determined by your birthday.
- Birthdays from 1st to 10th: 2nd Wednesday of every month
- Birthdays from 11th to 20th: 3rd Wednesday of every month
- Birthdays after the 20th: 4th Wednesday of every month
People who started receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 generally receive their payments on the third day of the month, excluding weekends and holidays.
Beneficiaries who receive both Social Security Income and Supplemental Security Income typically receive their Social Security payments on the third day of the month and SSI benefits on the first day of the month.
