What are the potential risks of consuming plastic?

According to the United Nations Development Programme, microplastic consumption is linked to serious health issues, including endocrine destruction, weight gain, insulin resistance, and reduced reproductive health and cancer.

The potential risks of consuming microplastics are clear, but a World Health Organization analysis of current research related to microplastics has identified that there is currently limited evidence that microplastics are causing significant health effects on humans.
