Mexican prosecutors are investigating widely shared surveillance video of the former boss of the murdered woman carrying a suspicious bundle of flights up stairs.

Authorities say Lorena Jacqueline Morales, who lives in Leon, central Guanajuato’s central state and worked at a grocery store, was reported missing by her family on May 23.

Prosecutors said the 28-year-old body was found in a suitcase on Tuesday, June 3rd. Her murders shock the country and highlight violence against Mexican women.

The prosecutor arrested the perpetrator, who was allegedly her former boss that same day.

On Thursday, a spokesman for the Guanajuato Prosecutor’s Office told CNN that the viral video was part of an investigation into Morales’ murder. They did not provide further details.

Surveillance video shows Morales’ former boss entering the apartment building and climbing a staircase with covered objects. After that, the man is seen next to me A car is struggling to load a heavy suitcase into the trunk.

Mexico's Guanajuato Prosecutor's Office confirmed to CNN that surveillance camera video showing suspects of the loss and death of Lorena Jacqueline Morales, who has become the virus, is part of a case investigation.

The timestamp in the top left corner of the video suggests it was taken on May 22nd. It is unknown what happened before and after the footage.

CNN is working to determine the legal status of the suspect and his response to the allegations against him.

Guanajuato Gov. Libia Dennise García Muñoz said the incident should be investigated as a murder.

Mexico has long struggled with both high levels of murder and violence against women.

Not all murders involving women are feminized, but many do. According to Amnesty International, a quarter of the murders of women in Mexico were investigated as feminists in 2020, and reported in each of the 32 Mexican states.

Last year, Mexican government figures showed 847 murders were reported in the first three months of the year, with 162 reported in the first three months of the year.
