WASHINGTON—Vice President J.D. Vance will visit Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Thursday, a person familiar with his plans said Monday.

Vance will speak at a roundtable with local residents in the city, where the Trump administration is fighting to maintain immigration control.

Vance defended the killing of Renee Good by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, calling it “a tragedy of her own making” and claiming she was part of a vast left-wing extremist network. The shooting sparked protests and a heated dispute between state and local authorities.

The Trump administration’s expanded immigration crackdowns and aggressive police tactics have sparked protests and prompted calls from local officials to remove ICE from the city.

Vance and his wife traveled to Minnesota in September to express their condolences to the victims of the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting.

On August 27, a gunman opened fire through a church window during a school mass. The church shooting, which involved a kindergarten through eighth grade school, killed an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old. Officials said 18 people were injured, including 15 children and three parishioners in their 80s.
