US Supreme Court temporarily suspends deportation of Venezuelan immigrants
The US Supreme Court suspended President Donald Trump’s administration after deporting Venezuelan men in immigration custody.
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump’s administration on Thursday called on the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene to strip him of his temporary protected status for more than 300,000 Venezuelan immigrants.
The Justice Department has asked the judiciary to hold off the order of a federal judge who halted Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem’s decision to end the temporary legal status previously granted to Venezuelans.
“As long as the order is in effect, the (NOEM) must allow hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan citizens to remain in the country despite the theoretical decision that it is “inverse to the national interest,” a Justice Department lawyer wrote in court documents.
On April 18, the federal court of appeals rejected the administration’s request to suspend the judge’s order.
