President Trump wears 2028 hat and jokes about running for office
During his speech at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, President Trump wore a 2028 hat and joked about running for the next presidential election.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on July 27 showed President Donald Trump’s approval rating rose slightly, but the poll also found that only one in three Americans supported the ongoing war in Iran.
Opinion polls show President Trump’s approval rating has risen to 37%, an increase of 3 points from June, when a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed his lowest approval rating since taking office.
President Trump’s poll improved slightly because in the same Reuters/Ipsos poll, only 33% of Americans said they supported war against Iran. The newspaper said Monday’s poll was the lowest on record since the conflict began in late February.
Only 5% of Democrats approved of the war, while 71% of Republicans and just 25% of independents said they approved of the US attack on Iran.
The poll was conducted from July 24 to July 26, according to Reuters/Ipsos. The poll received responses from 1,246 U.S. adults to a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
Other polls show Iran is unpopular
A CBS News/YouGov poll released on July 26 found that only 35% of Americans support war against Iran, and an overwhelming 63% say war is in very bad or somewhat bad shape. The poll also found that two-thirds of respondents believe the war against Iran should end now, rather than waiting for “further abandonment” by Iran.
The unpopularity of war against Iran in opinion polls is due to President Trump’s defense that war must be waged.
“We want to end this and we want to do it right, but we have to do what we have to do,” Trump said.
White House press secretary Olivia Wales said the president would not make decisions based on “fluid polls” and reiterated the president’s determination to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons again, Reuters reported.
“What matters most to the American people is a commander in chief who will take bold action to keep the American people safe,” Wales added.
