Just as high school and college graduates enter the job market this summer, a research initiative has released two top 10 lists ranking the best employers for recent graduates looking for their first job.

It’s not difficult to find an online list of good jobs for new graduates. However, the new list is drawn from a detailed data review covering approximately 12 million workers, 55,000 jobs and 1,750 employers.

The top employers list, released on June 29, is part of a larger project called “Where You Work Matters,” which assesses how well employers develop, reward and retain talent.

According to our analysis, all 20 companies on the list excel at providing early career jobs that provide skills and training to entry-level employees. Employers also allow employees to grow by getting promoted or looking for a better job at another company.

This ranking takes into account another important variable: whether an employer is hiring.

“This is an unprecedented assessment that combines quality of work with quantity of employment,” said Rajiv Chandrasekaran, managing director of the Schultz Family Foundation.

Where You Work Matters is a partnership between the Schulz Foundation and the Burning Glass Institute. Both organizations are committed to promoting economic opportunity and mobility.

Chandrasekaran said the purpose of the top 10 list is to direct young people to employers who are actively hiring graduates for jobs that can sow the seeds of meaningful careers.

This rating is based on data from millions of real workers showing their pay, retention, and promotion patterns in posts on LinkedIn, Indeed, and other sites.

“Everything is based on what actually happened to people,” Chandrasekaran said.

Chandrasekaran urged freshers to search beyond the two top-10 lists. The Where You Work Matters site allows visitors to search for high-quality jobs and explore thousands of potential employers and jobs.
