Tom Holland refers to Zendaya as his “wife” in a new interview, a month after she admitted they were privately married.
Appearing on UK-based podcast Dish, hosted by DJ Nick Grimshaw and chef Angela Hartnett, Holland was asked who he would like to take on a holiday to Greece.
“I think my wife is probably going to be a pretty good person,” Holland said.
The Spider-Man actor also joked that it would be unusual to choose someone else, adding: “It would be kind of weird if I said, ‘Sorry, I’m actually going to take Matt[Damon,’ who co-stars with Holland and Zendaya in ‘Odyssey’].”
Grimshaw responded by joking about spending 10 days on Mykonos with Damon.
Holland’s comments came after he and Zendaya appeared to confirm they were married in June. In an Esquire profile published June 16, Holland discussed an AI-generated image that falsely appeared to show a couple’s wedding.
When asked by Esquire if he needed to send a message to his family after the images circulated, Holland paused for a moment before replying, “No, because my whole family was there.”
This response appears to confirm that the couple held a private wedding ceremony with family members present. “That’s all we know about it,” Holland told the publication, declining to give further details.
Holland continues to talk about Zendaya while promoting ‘Odyssey’
This isn’t the first time Holland has mentioned Zendaya while promoting Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, which stars both actors.
In an interview with PEOPLE alongside Nolan, Matt Damon, and Anne Hathaway, Holland recalled discussing the opportunity to join Zendaya in the film before accepting the role of Telemachus, the son of Damon’s Odysseus and Hathaway’s Penelope.
“I sat down with Z and thought, ‘I got offered this movie,'” Holland said. When Zendaya asked who directed it, Holland said he told Zendaya, “This is the biggest one,” referring to Nolan.
Holland said Zendaya encouraged him to take the role and joked that she would break up with him if he turned down Nolan’s work.
“If you don’t do ‘The Odyssey,’ I’m leaving you,” Holland recalled her saying.
Holland also joked about his relationship with Zendaya in a Wired interview in July.
When asked about the relationship between Zendaya’s Athena and Damon’s Odysseus, Holland replied, “No, she’s married to me.”
Damon laughed and said, “Yeah, that’s a good answer.”
Later in the interview, Damon said that Athena teaches Holland’s character about “true love,” and Holland agreed.
Holland and Zendaya’s on-screen and off-screen romance
Holland and Zendaya met while filming the 2017 Marvel movie Spider-Man: Homecoming, where they played Peter Parker and MJ. Their relationship was publicly confirmed in 2021.
Holland and Zendaya, who co-starred in “The Odyssey,” which was released on July 17th, will reunite on screen in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which will be released in theaters on July 30th.
