Theology is no longer a professional degree

Mark Ramirez and Medora Lee report that the U.S. Department of Education this week elevated the study of theology to “non-professional” status, limiting the amount of loans available to students in the field.
The change follows a court ruling in June that blocked the Trump administration from reclassifying graduate degrees in nursing and other fields as non-professional and subjecting them to lower borrowing limits.
