Approximately 150,000 generators sold at stores such as Home Depot and Lowe’s are being recalled because they pose a deadly fire hazard.

According to an April 16 warning from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), 149,400 Generac brand portable generators sold across the United States could leak gasoline during filling, posing a serious fire or burn hazard.

Generac has received 114 reports of generator fuel leaks related to the product, none of which resulted in an injury.

The generators were sold at Home Depot, Lowe’s and other hardware stores across the U.S. between May 2025 and February 2026 for between $600 and $1,300, according to the CPSC.

Here’s what you need to know about the recalled products:

Which generators have been recalled?

Certain Generac portable generators with orange/black covers are subject to the recall. The generator is housed in a tubular steel cradle with two wheels on the back and “Generac” and “Unit Type” printed on the side panel.

According to the CPSC notice, generators that were previously filled with enough gasoline to move the gauge off the “E” mark, or that have been in service without leaking gasoline, can continue to be used.

The following unit types and model numbers are affected by the recall:

  • unit: GP3600, Model number: G0077210
  • unit: GP4000DF, Model number: G0081550
  • unit: GP6500, Model number: G0076802, G0076722
  • unit: GP6500E, Model number: G0077130
  • unit: GP6500EDF, Model number: G0081530
  • unit: GP6700EDF, Model number: G0080620
  • unit: GP8000E, Model number: G0077150, G0076754, G0081540

What to do if you have a recalled Generac generator

Consumers who own a recalled Generac generator should immediately stop using the included accessories and visit the company’s website to find out if their product is included in the recall. If fuel has been filled and has not yet been filled, or if fuel leaks during filling, the consumer should contact the dealer or place of purchase for free repair.
