Taylor Sheridan, the well-known creator of popular shows such as “Yellowstone” and “Tulsa King,” is reportedly leaving Paramount.

According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, the 55-year-old writer and director is moving to NBCUniversal. The five-year deal is set to take effect in January 2029, after Sheridan’s TV deal with Paramount ends, the outlet reported. He brought blockbuster television and film talent to the new media house, marking the end of an era at Paramount. Paramount enjoyed the fruits of his efforts for several years, achieving widespread success with Yellowstone and several spin-offs, including 1923 and 1883.

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives from Paramount, NBCU and Sheridan for comment.

Yellowstone and all other titles created during his tenure at Paramount will remain the property of the company, but Sheridan’s unique talent still represents a loss, according to reports. His work has formed the foundation of the company’s streaming success, and his departure heralds another period of upheaval for the company, which is in flux after undergoing a major merger. Earlier this year, the FCC approved the merger of Skydance Media and Paramount Global.

NBC won’t benefit from the Sheridan acquisition for several years, but their choice to use him in the streaming wars that have taken hold in television for the past five years is a choice as giant media conglomerates compete for share in a volatile market.
